Simple Summary: Measurable residual disease monitoring is an important prognostic tool in haematological malignancies commonly performed by two modalities: flow cytometry and molecular methods. In this paper, we studied consecutive adult participants requiring flow cytometric measurable residual disease monitoring. This is one of the largest prospective Australian studies to date, providing a unique insight into the Australian context. We described five distinctive patterns associated with disease relapse and survival and also investigated correlation with molecular methods. Our results provide additional evidence that the correlation between molecular and flow cytometric methods is moderate in B-lymphoblastic leukaemia and poor in acute myeloid leukaemia. There was a strong association between flow cytometry results and relapse in acute myeloid leukaemia but less so for B-lymphoblastic leukaemia. Our novel data indicate that the pattern of change in measurable residual disease over time was associated with the risk of relapse, particularly in acute myeloid leukaemia and highlight the divergent ways measurable residual disease testing can be employed across different leukaemias. Measurable residual disease (MRD) detected by flow cytometry (FC) is well established in paediatric B- lymphoblastic leukaemia (B-ALL) and adult chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), but its utility in adult B-ALL and adult acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) is less clear. In this prospective MRD study, one of the largest in Australia to date, we examined consecutive bone marrow aspirates from adult participants with B-ALL (n = 47) and AML (n = 87) sent for FC-MRD testing at a quaternary referral hospital in Sydney. FC-MRD results were correlated to corresponding Mol-MRD testing where available and clinical outcomes at three-month intervals over 1 year. B-ALL showed a moderate positive correlation (rs = 0.401, p < 0.001), while there was no correlation between FC-MRD and Mol-MRD for AML (rs = 0.13, p = 0.237). Five FC-MRD patterns were identified which had significant associations with relapse (X2(4) = 31.17(4), p > 0.001) and survival (X2(4) = 13.67, p = 0.008) in AML, but not in B-ALL. The three-month MRD results were also strongly associated with survival in AML, while the association in B-ALL was less evident. There was a moderate correlation between FC-MRD and Mol-MRD in B-ALL but not AML. The association of FC-MRD with relapse and survival was stronger in AML than in B-ALL. Simple Summary: This paper is one in a series of articles that investigate the functional forms of autophagy induced in tumor cells in response to various chemotherapeutic modalities, with the overarching goal of determining whether autophagy targeting or modulation could serve as an effective adjuvant therapy. In this review, we focus on androgen-targeted therapies in prostate cancer, including androgen biosynthesis inhibitors and androgen receptor antagonists. Androgen receptor targeting remains the primary therapeutic strategy in prostate cancer, encompassing androgen biosynthesis inhibitors and androgen receptor antagonists. While both androgen-receptor-positive and "castration-resistant" prostate cancer are responsive to these approaches, the development of resistance is an almost inevitable outcome leading to the castration-resistant form of the disease. Given that "cytoprotective" autophagy is considered to be a predominant mechanism of resistance to various chemotherapeutic agents as well as to radiation in the cancer literature, the purpose of this review is to evaluate whether autophagy plays a central role in limiting the utility of androgen deprivation therapies in prostate cancer. Unlike most of our previous reports, where multiple functional forms of autophagy were identified, making it difficult if not impossible to propose autophagy inhibition as a therapeutic strategy, the cytoprotective form of autophagy appears to predominate in the case of androgen deprivation therapies. Background: Many clinical trials have looked at the relationship between obesity and lung cancer (LC), however, there is scarcity of literature specifically addressing the association between metabolically healthy obesity and metastasis in LC patients. To address this gap in the body of evidence, the study was conducted to observe the association between metabolically healthy obesity and metastasis in LC patients. Methods: We conducted a pre-registered systematic review by searching six major online databases to identify studies relevant related to our investigation, in adherence with the PRISMA guidelines. A proper data extraction protocol was further established to synthesize the findings from the selected papers through a meta-analysis. Results: Eleven (11) studies met the requisite selection criterion and were included in the study. A random-effect model was used. Obesity was found to have a significant impact on readmission in LC patients. The combined analysis showed a significant effect size of 0.08 (95% CI 0.07 to 0.08), indicating a noticeable impact of obesity. It was also assessed that obese individuals had a 34% reduced risk of LC compared to normal weight individuals. Obesity was associated with a lower risk of surgical complications with a pooled risk ratio of 0.13 (95% CI 0.12 to 0.14). A statistically significant decreased risk of LC (pooled RR = 0.72, 95% CI: 0.68 to 0.77) was also observed in the obese individuals. Conclusion: The analysis reveals that obesity is associated with a noticeable increase in readmissions, although the impact on LC risk itself is negligible. Moreover, obesity appears to have a beneficial effect by reducing the risk of surgical complications. These results highlight the complex relationship between the two aforementioned factors, emphasizing the importance of considering obesity as a significant factor in patient management and healthcare decisionmaking. Background: Growing evidence indicates patients' survivorship outcomes can be enhanced through active engagement in a multi-modal cancer prehabilitation programme (MCPP), although this intervention is not uniformly embedded as a standard of care. MCPP aims to optimise patients physiologically and psychologically for cancer treatments, shorten recovery time, reduce complications, promote healthier lifestyles and improve quality of life. South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust (SET) developed and evaluated a system-wide collaborative approach to MMCP across three tumour groups (colorectal, lung, head and neck cancer). Addressing the lack of qualitative evaluation of MCPPs, this novel paper explores mechanisms promoting feasibility and acceptability of MCPP from patients' and interdisciplinary professionals' perspectives. Methods: Semi-structured virtual one-to-one interviews were conducted with 24 interdisciplinary professionals and nine patients. Transcripts were recorded, transcribed verbatim and themes developed using Framework Analysis. Results: Analysis of findings identified three themes providing an in-depth understanding of key elements required to develop and promote system-wide delivery of a MCPP: 1) Equipping the team: Capability and capacity, 2) Timing of intervention and delivery timeframe and 3) Systems and processes. Conclusion: The system-wide collaborative approach to developing a MCPP was deemed both feasible and acceptable. Success was attributed to visionary leadership, alongside a diverse group of interdisciplinary professionals being engaged, motivated and committed to intervention delivery in an effort to improve patient outcomes. Iterative, responsive troubleshooting during initial delivery is required to facilitate successful implementation. Further training is required for greater adherence to provision of prescriptive high intensity exercise within the programme, which may further promote enhanced patient outcomes. Background: Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, accounting for 15% of all new cases. Hormone therapy (HT) is extremely effective in reducing breast cancer recurrence. However, adherence to HT medication is often poor due to negative side effects such as fatigue and sleep disturbances. Physical activity has been identified as a possible intervention to improve quality of life and reduce side effects of HT. Objective: The objective of this systematic review was to summarise evidence of exercise interventions for women being treated with HT for breast cancer. Method: Electronic searches were conducted from inception to March 2022 using Medline, SPORTdiscus, Embase, Scopus, PsycINFO and Web of Science databases. Searches included a combination of terms related to breast cancer, exercise, sleep disturbances, fatigue and HT. Results: Ten eligible papers were identified, and their quality was assessed. Type, frequency, duration and intensity of exercise interventions varied. Exercise types included aerobics, strength/resistance training, walking and yoga. Heterogeneity of data made it difficult to draw conclusions. However, aerobic exercise interventions provide clear improvements in fatigue and sleep disturbances. Conclusions: This review identified a lack of consistency in exercise recommendations for women being treated for breast cancer. It identifies that aerobic exercise can successfully improve fatigue and sleep disturbances, consistent with existing literature. Exercise has a range of benefits for this population, including improving psychological well‐being and quality of life. Simple Summary: Accurate dose calculation and delivery is critical in treating cancers in radiation therapy. Although high accuracy has been achieved, significant uncertainties or errors still exist in radiation therapy, especially brachytherapy. Various types of uncertainty have been investigated, such as organ filling and organ motion. But interfraction dose variations (IDVs) from the prescribed dose in high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR) resulting from clinical considerations have not been widely discussed. Understanding what IDVs look like and whether or not they would affect clinical outcomes is important to improve the effectiveness of HDR brachytherapy and quality of cervical cancer treatment. We found IVDs followed a left-skewed distribution in our previous study, and we continued to discuss their potential effect on clinical outcomes in this project. In this study, we found that IDVs would reduce tumor control probability and increase treatment failure rate, but a dose escalation could be a remedy for such an effect. Meeting dose prescription is critical to control tumors in radiation therapy. Interfraction dose variations (IDVs) from the prescribed dose in high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR) would cause the target dose to deviate from the prescription but their clinical effect has not been widely discussed in the literature. Our previous study found that IDVs followed a left-skewed distribution. The clinical effect of the IDVs in 100 cervical cancer HDR patients will be addressed in this paper. An in-house Monte Carlo (MC) program was used to simulate clinical outcomes by convolving published tumor dose response curves with IDV distributions. The optimal dose and probability of risk-free local control (RFLC) were calculated using the utility model. The IDVs were well-fitted by the left-skewed Beta distribution, which caused a 3.99% decrease in local control probability and a 1.80% increase in treatment failure. Utility with respect to IDV uncertainty increased the RFLC probability by 6.70% and predicted an optimal dose range of 83 Gy–91 Gy EQD2. It was also found that a 10 Gy dose escalation would not affect toxicity. In conclusion, HRCTV IDV uncertainty reduced LC probabilities and increased treatment failure rates. Simple Summary: The Clonogenic Survival Assay (CSA) is pivotal in gauging cell survival and proliferative capacity in oncology research. However, it's limited by its binary output and its time- and labor-intensive nature. We developed LeGO-CSA, a refined version of CSA, utilizing imaging of cell nuclei tagged with fluorescent markers which encode red, green, blue fluorescent proteins and their variations. This facilitates both high-content and high-throughput analysis, delivering a potent tool for cancer research, promising heightened accuracy and efficiency, with the potential to expedite drug discovery and offer deeper insights into cellular dynamics in cancer. This transformative approach can revolutionize cancer research methodologies, making them more efficient and insightful. The Clonogenic Survival Assay (CSA) is a fundamental tool employed to assess cell survival and proliferative potential in cancer research. Despite its importance, CSA faces limitations, primarily its time- and labor-intensive nature and its binary output. To overcome these limitations and enhance CSA's utility, several approaches have been developed, focusing on increasing the throughput. However, achieving both high-content and high-throughput analyses simultaneously has remained a challenge. In this paper, we introduce LeGO-CSA, an extension of the classical CSA that employs the imaging of cell nuclei barcoded with fluorescent lentiviral gene ontology markers, enabling both high-content and high-throughput analysis. To validate our approach, we contrasted it with results from a classical assay and conducted a proof-of-concept screen of small-molecule inhibitors targeting various pathways relevant to cancer treatment. Notably, our results indicate that the classical CSA may underestimate clonogenicity and unveil intriguing aspects of clonal cell growth. We demonstrate the potential of LeGO-CSA to offer a robust approach for assessing cell survival and proliferation with enhanced precision and throughput, with promising implications for accelerating drug discovery and contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of cellular behavior in cancer. Purpose: This paper examines community leaders' and researchers' recommendations for reaching rural communities in a southeastern U.S. state with cancer prevention and control programming. Research Design: A qualitative inquiry of a grant network's research and community councils was conducted to explore members' opinions on how to engage rural communities and obtain input on how to recruit rural organizations for a mini-grants program. Study Sample and Data Collection: Telephone/virtual interviews were conducted with all 13 council members. Responses were analyzed using thematic analysis and findings were examined within the context of system-centric and patient-centric dimensions. Results: Council members discussed limited education, lack of insurance, low socioeconomic status, health care avoidance, and transportation as barriers to cancer prevention and control. They recommended reaching rural populations by partnering with community and faith-based organizations, use of targeted multi-media, and tailored cancer education trainings. Conclusions: Findings are used for guiding outreach with rural communities and recruitment of rural organizations for a cancer-focused mini-grants initiative. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Pancreatic cancer is with the poorest prognosis of all common cancers worldwide. Despite the advances in treatment the results are poor throughout the different methods. Pancreatic resection still yields the best outcome. However only a quarter of the patients present at operable stage. HIFU is a noninvasive technique that can be used to treat pancreatic cancer. The aim of this review is to perform a systematic review on the data about the resection rate after HIFU ablation in patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer (BRPC) and the impact of this technique over the oncological results. The PubMed and Wanfang databases were searched using keywords: pancreatic cancer, HIFU ablation and high-intensity focused ultrasound. All found articles were reviewed. The systematic review was performed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) standard guidelines. This study was financially supported by 2019 'Kuan-Ren Elite' Program of 2nd Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, China (Grant no. KY2019G019). The English database search showed 109 papers, of which 3 met the inclusion criteria. The Wanfang database resulted in 110 papers; however, none met the inclusion criteria of the review. From the included studies 97 patients underwent neoadjuvant HIFU ablation ± chemotherapy. Thirty-four patients reached resection (35.1%). In two patients, residual tumor (R) classification was not reported. R0 resection rate in all reported patients is 30.5% (29/95). R1 resection rate is 3.2% (3/95). HIFU is found to be safe and feasible in locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer with proven downstaging and downsizing effects. Objective: To investigate epidemiological, clinical and oncological outcomes of young patients with laryngeal cancer (LC). Methods: PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library were searched by three researchers for studies investigating epidemiological, clinical and oncological outcomes of patients with age < 40 years old and LC. The following outcomes were investigated with PRISMA criteria: age; ethnicity; gender; tobacco/alcohol habits; anatomical, pathological, therapeutic and survival features. Authors performed a bias analysis of papers and provided recommendations for future studies. Results: Seventeen papers published between 1982 and 2021 met our inclusion criteria, accounting for 928 patients with age < 40 years (female/male ratio: 2:5). There were on average 54.2 and 45.8% of smokers and drinkers. The tumor location mainly consisted of glottis (70.1%), supraglottis (27.7%) and subglottis (2.2%). Radiation therapy was the main therapeutic strategy used in young adults with LC. The 2-year overall survival ranged from 50 to 100% and depended on tumor stage, treatment, and cohort features. Four studies reported better overall survival in young compared with old adults, while there were no significant differences in three studies. There was an important heterogeneity between studies regarding the inclusion/exclusion criteria, epidemiological, clinical, pathological and treatment. Conclusion: It was suggested that young patients with LC had lower proportion of smokers and drinkers and better overall survival compared with older but both data of the current literature and heterogeneity between studies limit us to draw definitive conclusions. Objective: The UK incidence of oropharyngeal cancer has risen sharply over the last 30 years with an increase in human papillomavirus (HPV) associated diagnoses, most prevalent in younger, working age populations. This meta‐ethnography explores the psychosocial needs of HPV+ve oropharyngeal cancer patients during early recovery following (chemo)radiotherapy. Methods: Meta‐ethnography methods were used, based on the approach of Noblit and Hare. Systematic searches for relevant qualitative studies were conducted in five electronic databases (MEDLINE, PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO and Cochrane database) between 2010 and 2021, followed by citation searching. Results: Twenty‐three papers exploring the psychosocial needs of HPV+ve oropharyngeal cancer patients after treatment were included. Findings were synthesised to develop five constructs: 'gaps in continuity of support from healthcare professionals' reflecting unmet needs; 'changes to self‐identity' revealing the comprehensive disruption of this disease and treatment; 'unrealistic expectations of recovery' highlighting the difficulty of preparing for the impact of treatment; 'finding ways to cope' describing the distinct complexity of this experience; and 'adjusting to life after the end of treatment' exploring how coping strategies helped patients to regain control of their lives. Conclusions: Completing (chemo)radiotherapy signalled a transition from hospital‐based care to home‐based support, challenging patients to address the constructs identified. An unexpectedly difficult and complex recovery meant that despite a favourable prognosis, poor psychosocial well‐being may threaten a successful outcome. Simple Summary: In the context of today's "accurate" medical care, the disadvantages of traditional randomized controlled trials have become increasingly prominent. At the same time, real-world study is more and more respected by people. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to review the application of real-world study in the treatment of malignant tumors in general surgery in the past three years, to provide real-world evidence for clinical diagnosis and treatment. More importantly, while summarizing the existing research results, this paper also puts forward the current shortcomings and prospects of real-world study, which will contribute to further research, to provide help for the treatment of malignant tumors in general surgery. Real-world study (RWS) is a method to draw conclusions by collecting and analyzing real-world data under a real clinical background. Compared with traditional randomized controlled trials (RCTs), RWSs are favored by clinicians because of their low cost and good extrapolation. In recent years, RWS has made remarkable achievements in the field of general surgery, especially in the drug treatment of advanced malignant tumors. Therefore, to further understand the main contents of the existing RWS and the application prospect of RWS in the future, this paper systematically reviews the clinical application of RWS in malignant tumors in general surgery in the past three years. Objectives: Chemotherapy and radiotherapy generally cause serious adverse side effects in cancer patients, thereby affecting subsequent treatment. Numerous studies have shown that taking probiotics is an option for preventing and treating these side effects. In this investigation, a meta-analysis of the effects of oral probiotics on side effects brought on by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, or chemoradiotherapy treatment will be carried out. Methods: Two researchers independently and carefully reviewed all pertinent studies that were published before June 30, 2022 and were accessible on PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and the Web of Science. Moreover, the Cochrane Collaboration's Tool was used to evaluate the risk of bias. Utilizing Review Manager software version 5.4, data were retrieved from eligible studies to evaluate their merits and determine odds ratios (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) (RevMan 5.4). Results: 2 097 patients from 16 randomized controlled trials were extracted, and standard meta-analysis methods were used to examine the data. Compared with the placebo groups, oral probiotics significantly reduced the side effects caused by radiotherapy and chemotherapy on various types of cancer, such as head and neck cancer, pelvic and abdominal cancer, breast cancer, lung cancer, etc. (OR: 0.31, 95% CI: 0.20 - 0.48; P < 0.005). Further analysis found that the incidence of diarrhea in patients with pelvic and abdominal cancers (OR: 0.32, 95% CI: 0.16 - 0.65; P < 0.005) and the frequency of oral mucositis in patients with head and neck tumors were also significantly lower (OR: 0.28, 95% CI: 0.18 - 0.43; P < 0.005) after the oral administration of probiotics. This suggests that probiotics have a positive influence on the treatment of side effects after chemoradiotherapy. Additionally, a funnel plot revealed that there was no significant publication bias in this study. Conclusions: Probiotics may help to reduce the occurrence of cancer therapy-related side effects, especially oral mucositis in head and neck tumors and diarrhea in patients with pelvic and abdominal tumors. However, given the small number of clinical trials involved, additional randomized, double-blind, multicentric trials in a larger population are required. Locoregional recurrence of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) occurs in 20% of thyroid cancer patients. Currently, there are many strategies for management of locoregional recurrence of DTC that lead to local control of the disease. The introduction of lenvatinib into the therapeutic armamentarium provides a new option for the treatment of radioiodine‐refractory DTC (RR‐DTC). However, results for simultaneous treatment with lenvatinib and locoregional therapies are unknown in patients with RR‐DTC. This paper reviews the current status of this approach and gives recommendations on the management of lenvatinib during concomitant locoregional procedures. Locoregional recurrence of differentiated thyroid cancer occurs in 20% of thyroid cancer patients. Strategies for management of recurrence of radioiodine‐refractory differentiated thyroid cancer include lenvatinib. In 1999 a visionary short article by The Wall Street Journal writers Robert Langreth and Michael Waldholz popularized the new term "personalized medicine," that is to say, the targeting of drugs to each unique genetic profile. From today's perspective, targeted approaches have clearly found the widest use in the antineoplastic domain. The current review was initiated to review the progress that has been made regarding the treatment of patients with advanced cancer and brain metastases. PubMed was searched for the terms brain metastasis, brain metastases, or metastatic brain in the Title/Abstract. Selection was limited to randomized controlled trial (RCT) and publication date January 2010 to February 2022. Following visual review, 51 papers on metastatic lung cancer, 12 on metastatic breast cancer, and 9 on malignant melanoma were retained and underwent full analysis. Information was extracted from the papers giving specific numbers for intracranial response rate and/or overall survival. Since most pharmacological trials on advanced cancers excluded patients with brain metastases and since hardly any information on adjuvant radiotherapy and radiosurgery is available from the pharmacological trials, precise assessment of the effect of targeted medication for the subgroups with brain metastases is difficult. Some quantitative information regarding the success of targeted pharmacological therapy is only available for patients with breast and lung cancer and melanoma. Overall, targeted approaches approximately doubled the lifespan in the subgroups of brain metastases from tumors with targetable surface receptors such as anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion receptor in non-small cell lung cancer or human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)–positive breast cancer. For these types, overall survival in the situation of brain metastases is now more than a year. For receptor-negative lung cancer and melanoma, introduction of immune checkpoint blockers brought a substantial advance, although overall survival for melanoma metastasized to the brain appears to remain in the range of 6 to 9 months. The outlook for small cell lung cancer metastasized to the brain apparently remains poor. The introduction of targeted therapy roughly doubled survival times of advanced cancers including those metastasized to the brain, but so far, targeted therapy does not differ essentially from chemotherapy, therefore also facing tumors developing escape mechanisms. With the improved perspective of patients suffering from brain metastases, it becomes important to further optimize treatment of this specific patient group within the framework of randomized trials. Cancer and depression are closely interrelated, particularly in patients with advanced cancer, who often present with comorbid anxiety and depression for various reasons. Recently, there has been a growing interest in the study of depression in cancer patients, with the aim of assessing the possible triggers, predictors, adverse events, and possible treatment options for depression in several common cancers. The objective of this narrative review is to synthesize the extant literature on the relationship between the occurrence and progression of depression in several common patient categories. The authors conducted a comprehensive review of 75 articles published in PubMed over the past five years. This review was further evaluated in the present paper. Ultimately, it was determined that depression is a prevalent and detrimental phenomenon among cancer patients, particularly those with advanced disease. Consequently, there is a pressing need to prioritize research and interventions aimed at improving the quality of life and psychosocial well-being of cancer patients, including those with advanced disease. The relationship between cancer and depression has been evolving dynamically in recent times. The current research findings indicate a strong association between cancer and depression. Purpose: A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the feasibility of implementing routine collection of the Euro-Qol 5 dimensions (EQ-5D) questionnaire, to inform drug and health technology reimbursement decision making. Methods: Women with breast cancer were recruited during scheduled clinic visits to an academic cancer centre. EQ-5D-5L was self-administered using electronic tablets. Diagnostic and treatment data were abstracted from patient charts. Feasibility was assessed primarily by the proportion of patients who fully completed EQ-5D-5L and by their willingness to complete the instrument at each clinic visit. Results: 588 women were approached for study participation, 341 were enrolled. Fully completed EQ-5D-5L questionnaires were obtained in 323 participants (95% of participants, 95% CI 92–97%). Median time for EQ-5D-5L completion was 1.5 minutes (range:0.35 to 14.7). Mean age of participants was 58 years old. Most women who completed EQ-5D were White, born outside Canada and presented a high education level; one-quarter had metastatic disease. Most participants reported "No problems" in all EQ-5D-5L dimensions. Mean EQ-5D-5L index and mean EQ-5D-5L VAS values for all participants were respectively 0.83 (SD 0.13) and 75.7 (SD 17.45), with patients with metastatic disease scoring the lowest values. Seventy-eight percent of participants were willing to complete EQ-5D-5L at each clinic visit; lower Charlson comorbidity index and higher education level were predictors of willingness to continue to answer EQ-5D-5L. Conclusions: Tablet-based collection of EQ-5D-5L in the context of routine clinical practice proved to be feasible. However, many patients declined study participation or reported being in full health, raising concerns about whether this method of collecting EQ-5D adequately represents the health status of all breast cancer patients. Various reviews and meta‐analyses have shown the positive effects of mindfulness‐based interventions (MBIs) on the mental health of cancer patients and survivors. Some studies have also investigated the impact of MBIs on physiological markers of health in oncology, but a systematic review has not been conducted in this field. The current paper aims to fill this gap in the literature. Following preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta‐analyses 2020 guidelines, data were obtained from the databases of Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science in May 2022. Twenty‐five studies were included. Globally, 35 biomarkers were employed in these studies and were categorized 8 groups (cortisol; blood pressure (BP), heart rate, and respiratory rate; C‐reactive protein; telomere length and telomerase activity (TA); genetic signature; cytokines and hormones; leucocyte activation; leucocyte count and cell subpopulation analysis). In seven of these categories of biomarkers, positive effects of MBIs were observed. The most promising results were obtained for cortisol, BP, TA and pro‐inflammatory gene expression. However, the generally low number of studies per single biomarker limits the possibility to draw reliable conclusions. The present review presents a comprehensive state‐of‐the‐art for MBIs in oncology on biomarkers, confirming MBIs' potential for improving physiological health in cancer patients and survivors besides those already shown in literature on psychological well‐being. Data on gonadotoxicity of chemotherapies are essential to better counsel young females and males about the risk of infertility and to better indicate fertility preservation measures before cancer therapies. However, such data have not recently been reviewed for bone cancer. Therefore, a systematic literature search was conducted considering papers published since 2000. This study is part of the FertiTOX® project, which aims to improve the lack of data regarding gonadotoxicity of cancer therapies to enable more accurate counseling regarding fertility preservation. Only relapse-free women and men were included. Gonadotoxic therapy-induced suspected infertility was defined as very low anti-mullerian hormone, high gonadotropin concentration, amenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, azoospermia, or oligozoospermia. The quality of the individual studies was assessed using the Newcastle–Ottawa Scale (NOS). In total, 11 out of 831 studies were included in the review. Suspected infertility was found in 10/190 (5.1%, range 0%–66%) of female patients with osteosarcoma (six studies), in 24/46 (52.2%, range 46%–100%) of male patients with osteosarcoma (three studies), in 18/138 (13.0%, range 3%–18%) of female patients with Ewing's sarcoma (three studies), and in 34/38 (89.5%) of male patients with Ewing's sarcoma (one study). A risk calculation in relation to specific chemotherapies was not possible. Risk of suspected infertility tends to be higher in Ewing's sarcoma in which all patients received chemotherapies with alkylating agents. Two of the 11 included studies received a high NOS quality score, whereas the remaining nine studies received a low quality score, mainly because of the lack of a comparator group. Published data are too limited for precise estimation of the gonadotoxicity. Objective: Existing literature has sought to characterize the broad cognitive impact of non-central nervous system cancer and its treatment, including chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and hormonal regulation. However, despite the frequency of women that are diagnosed with breast and gynecological cancer, there is limited research on the specific cognitive experiences of women undergoing cancer treatment. Presently, the current literature lacks concise guidance for neuropsychologists to support the cognitive health of women facing cancer, despite the acknowledged impact of cancer interventions and chronic illness on cognitive outcomes. Method: Applying scoping review criteria outlined by Peters et al. (2015) and adhering to Preferred Reporting Items for Systemic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines, we conducted a comprehensive examination of literature spanning multiple databases (Google Scholar, PubMed, PsychINFO) with a focus on the cognitive impact of cancer treatment on women. Conclusions: Women are subject to unique treatment-related outcomes due to the impact of hormonal alterations, differences in metabolization of certain chemotherapies, and psychosocial risk factors. Despite the known impact of cancer intervention, chronic illness, and cancer-related sequelae on cognitive outcomes, the current literature does not parsimoniously outline best practices for neuropsychologists to promote the health of women experiencing cancer. Laparoscopic and robotic-assisted techniques have gained popularity, and endometrial cancer (EC) remains a significant health problem among women. Minimally invasive surgical (MIS) therapy options for early endometrial cancer will be evaluated for their effectiveness and safety is the aim of this paper. We also investigate the differences in oncologic outcomes between MIS and open surgery (OS) for individuals with early-stage EC. The patient was diagnosed with early-stage EC and treated with laparoscopic surgery and was the focus of a retrospective analysis. 162 patients with early EC were analyzed, with diagnoses occurring between 2002 and 2022. The patients were fragmented into two groups, one for OS and another for laparoscopic procedures. The total tumor excision and recurrence rates were identical across the two methods, indicating similar oncologic results. Rates of complications were likewise comparable across the two groups. The quality of life ratings of patients with robotic-assisted surgery was higher than those with laparoscopic surgery. Sixty-two (62.2%) of the 162 patients in this research had OS, whereas Fifty-six (57.8%) had MIS. The probability of recurrence of EC from stages III to IV was significanitly higher in women who had OS. Minimally invasive procedures were shown to be effective in treating early-stage EC, and while these findings provide support for their usage, larger multicenter randomized controlled studies are required to verify these results and further examine possible long-term advantages. Background: Nurses play an integral role in the care of children hospitalised with a serious illness. Although information about diagnostics, treatments, and prognosis are generally conveyed to parents and caregivers of seriously ill children by physicians, nurses spend a significant amount of time at the child's bedside and have an acknowledged role in helping patients and families understand the information that they have been given by a doctor. Hence, the ethical role of the nurse in truth disclosure to children is worth exploring. Methods: A systematic academic database and grey literature search strategy was conducted using CINAHL, Medline Psych Info, and Google Scholar. Keywords used included truth, children, nurse, disclosure, serious illness, and communication. A total of 17 publications of varying types were included in the final data set. Ethical Considerations: As this was a review of the literature, there were no direct human participants. Empirical studies included in the review had received ethics approval. Results: Of the 17 articles included in the review, only one directly reported on the experiences of nurses asked to withhold the truth from patients. Empirical studies were limited to HIV-positive children and children diagnosed with cancer and the dying child. Conclusion: A paucity of literature exploring the experiences, attitudes, and beliefs of nurses with regard to truth-telling to seriously ill children is evident. Little consideration has been given to the role nurses play in communicating medical information to children in a hospital setting. The 17 articles included in the review focused on cancer, and HIV, diagnosis, and end-of-life care. Further research should be undertaken to explore the experiences and attitudes of nurses to clinical information sharing to children hospitalised with a wide range of serious illnesses and in diverse clinical scenarios. Background: Identifying patients presenting with nonspecific abdominal symptoms who have underlying cancer is a challenge. Common blood tests are widely used to investigate these symptoms in primary care, but their predictive value for detecting cancer in this context is unknown. We quantify the predictive value of 19 abnormal blood test results for detecting underlying cancer in patients presenting with 2 nonspecific abdominal symptoms. Methods and findings: Using data from the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) linked to the National Cancer Registry, Hospital Episode Statistics and Index of Multiple Deprivation, we conducted a population-based cohort study of patients aged ≥30 presenting to English general practice with abdominal pain or bloating between January 2007 and October 2016. Positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV), sensitivity, and specificity for cancer diagnosis (overall and by cancer site) were calculated for 19 abnormal blood test results co-occurring in primary care within 3 months of abdominal pain or bloating presentations. A total of 9,427/425,549 (2.2%) patients with abdominal pain and 1,148/52,321 (2.2%) with abdominal bloating were diagnosed with cancer within 12 months post-presentation. For both symptoms, in both males and females aged ≥60, the PPV for cancer exceeded the 3% risk threshold used by the UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence for recommending urgent specialist cancer referral. Concurrent blood tests were performed in two thirds of all patients (64% with abdominal pain and 70% with bloating). In patients aged 30 to 59, several blood abnormalities updated a patient's cancer risk to above the 3% threshold: For example, in females aged 50 to 59 with abdominal bloating, pre-blood test cancer risk of 1.6% increased to: 10% with raised ferritin, 9% with low albumin, 8% with raised platelets, 6% with raised inflammatory markers, and 4% with anaemia. Compared to risk assessment solely based on presenting symptom, age and sex, for every 1,000 patients with abdominal bloating, assessment incorporating information from blood test results would result in 63 additional urgent suspected cancer referrals and would identify 3 extra cancer patients through this route (a 16% relative increase in cancer diagnosis yield). Study limitations include reliance on completeness of coding of symptoms in primary care records and possible variation in PPVs if extrapolated to healthcare settings with higher or lower rates of blood test use. Conclusions: In patients consulting with nonspecific abdominal symptoms, the assessment of cancer risk based on symptoms, age and sex alone can be substantially enhanced by considering additional information from common blood test results. Male and female patients aged ≥60 presenting to primary care with abdominal pain or bloating warrant consideration for urgent cancer referral or investigation. Further cancer assessment should also be considered in patients aged 30 to 59 with concurrent blood test abnormalities. This approach can detect additional patients with underlying cancer through expedited referral routes and can guide decisions on specialist referrals and investigation strategies for different cancer sites. Background: Breast cancer is the most common malignancy that occurs in women. Due to the pain caused by the disease itself and the adverse reactions in the treatment process, breast cancer patients are prone to anxiety, depression, fear of recurrence, and other negative emotions, which seriously affect the quality of life. As a systematic stress reduction therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction is widely applied to the treatment of breast cancer patients and has been found by a growing number of studies to relieve stress, regulate mood, and improve the state. However, due to the absence of recent research and uniform outcome measures, previous studies have failed to fully explain the role of mindfulness-based stress reduction in improving the quality of life in breast cancer patients. Objective: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to evaluate and compare the effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy and standard care on the quality of life and psychological status of breast cancer patients. Methods: We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China's National Knowledge Infrastructure and the Cochrane Central Registry of Controlled Trials up to July 2023 to identify candidate randomized clinical trials addressing the values of mindfulness-based stress reduction in breast cancer patients. Results: A total of 1644 patients participated in 11 randomized controlled trials. The results of the meta-analysis showed that mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy can significantly reduce negative emotions such as perceived stress (MD = -1.46, 95%CI = -2.53 to -0.38, p = 0.03), depression (MD = -1.84, 95%CI = -3.99 to -0.30, p = 0.0004), anxiety (MD = -2.81, 95%CI = -5.31 to -0.32, p = 0.002), and fear of recurrence (MD = -1.27, 95%CI = -3.44 to 0.90, p = 0.0004). Mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy also has certain advantages in improving the coping ability (MD = 1.26, 95%CI = -3.23 to5.76, p = 0.03) and the emotional state (MD = -7.73, 95%CI = -27.34 to 11.88, p = 0.0007) of patients with breast cancer. Conclusion: Our analyses support that, compared with standard care, mindfulness-based stress reduction therapy can significantly improve patients' coping ability, reduce adverse emotions and improve patients' emotional states. The rate of obesity is increasing in the Australian population, and this also includes patients with cancer. The safety and dignity of this cohort of patients is paramount as well as the timely acquisition of equipment required to assist patients with obesity to complete a course of radiation therapy (RT). The design and manufacture of equipment used in most RT departments is not suitable for the weight or BMI of all patients presenting for treatment. RT also operates under a unique set of circumstances that differs from the routine hospital environment which prompted the design of an RT bariatric protocol for use in our department. The protocol is based on the mapping of a patient's pathway from simulation and treatment. Treatment technique and equipment limitations as well as information relating to a patient with high BMI are used as trigger points that direct a patient pathway. The bariatric protocol provides the RT team with decision‐making support for appropriate resource utilisation ensuring safe and efficient treatment delivery for both the patient and staff. This paper will outline how the RT bariatric protocol was developed and implemented in our department, highlighting areas that required more attention due to the RT‐specific environment. People alive many years after breast (BC) or colorectal cancer (CRC) diagnoses are increasing. This paper aimed to estimate the indicators of cancer cure and complete prevalence for Italian patients with BC and CRC by stage and age. A total of 31 Italian Cancer Registries (47% of the population) data until 2017 were included. Mixture cure models allowed estimation of net survival (NS); cure fraction (CF); time to cure (TTC, 5‐year conditional NS >95%); cure prevalence (who will not die of cancer); and already cured (prevalent patients living longer than TTC). 2.6% of all Italian women (806,410) were alive in 2018 after BC and 88% will not die of BC. For those diagnosed in 2010, CF was 73%, 99% when diagnosed at stage I, 81% at stage II, and 36% at stages III–IV. For all stages combined, TTC was >10 years under 45 and over 65 years and for women with advanced stages, but ≤1 year for all BC patients at stage I. The proportion of already cured prevalent BC women was 75% (94% at stage I). Prevalent CRC cases were 422,407 (0.7% of the Italian population), 90% will not die of CRC. For CRC patients, CF was 56%, 92% at stage I, 71% at stage II, and 35% at stages III–IV. TTC was ≤10 years for all age groups and stages. Already cured were 59% of all prevalent CRC patients (93% at stage I). Depression, frequently associated with cancer, significantly impacts health outcomes, necessitating effective treatments. This systematic review and meta-analysis aim to synthesize and critically evaluate the evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for the efficacy of nurse-led psychological interventions in managing depression among adult cancer patients. It focuses on the unique contribution of these interventions to improving depression management in oncology care, an underrepresented area in the existing literature. We conducted a comprehensive search in databases including Scopus, Medline, CINAHL, and PsycINFO, applying strict criteria to select RCTs assessing nurse-led psychological interventions for depression in cancer patients. We used the Cochrane Risk of Bias 2 tool to assess study quality. Out of 425 screened abstracts, nine papers describing seven distinct interventions involving 1463 participants were selected. The overall effect size estimate of −0.75 (95% confidence interval: −1.23 to −0.27) indicates significant effectiveness of these interventions in reducing depression compared to treatment as usual. Additionally, the calculated prediction interval highlights the variability in effectiveness across different settings, suggesting that contextual factors play a crucial role in the success of these interventions. The findings advocate for the integration of nurse-led psychological interventions into standard cancer care, highlighting their efficacy in improving depressive symptoms in adult cancer patients. These interventions show promise but require further refinement and research to optimize their effectiveness across diverse patient groups and healthcare settings. Background: Perceptual measures such as speech intelligibility are known to be biased, variant and subjective, to which an automatic approach has been seen as a more reliable alternative. On the other hand, automatic approaches tend to lack explainability, an aspect that can prevent the widespread usage of these technologies clinically. Aims: In the present work, we aim to study the relationship between four perceptual parameters and speech intelligibility by automatically modelling the behaviour of six perceptual judges, in the context of head and neck cancer. From this evaluation we want to assess the different levels of relevance of each parameter as well as the different judge profiles that arise, both perceptually and automatically. Methods and Procedures: Based on a passage reading task from the Carcinologic Speech Severity Index (C2SI) corpus, six expert listeners assessed the voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions, as well as the speech intelligibility of patients treated for oral or oropharyngeal cancer. A statistical analysis and an ensemble of automatic systems, one per judge, were devised, where speech intelligibility is predicted as a function of the four aforementioned perceptual parameters of voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions. Outcomes and Results: The results suggest that we can automatically predict speech intelligibility as a function of the four aforementioned perceptual parameters, achieving a high correlation of 0.775 (Spearman's ρ). Furthermore, different judge profiles were found perceptually that were successfully modelled automatically. Conclusions and Implications: The four investigated perceptual parameters influence the global rating of speech intelligibility, showing that different judge profiles emerge. The proposed automatic approach displayed a more uniform profile across all judges, displaying a more reliable, unbiased and objective prediction. The system also adds an extra layer of interpretability, since speech intelligibility is regressed as a direct function of the individual prediction of the four perceptual parameters, an improvement over more black box approaches. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS: What is already known on this subject: Speech intelligibility is a clinical measure typically used in the post‐treatment assessment of speech affecting disorders, such as head and neck cancer. Their perceptual assessment is currently the main method of evaluation; however, it is known to be quite subjective since intelligibility can be seen as a combination of other perceptual parameters (voice quality, resonance, etc.). Given this, automatic approaches have been seen as a more viable alternative to the traditionally used perceptual assessments. What this study adds to existing knowledge: The present work introduces a study based on the relationship between four perceptual parameters (voice quality, resonance, prosody and phonemic distortions) and speech intelligibility, by automatically modelling the behaviour of six perceptual judges. The results suggest that different judge profiles arise, both in the perceptual case as well as in the automatic models. These different profiles found showcase the different schools of thought that perceptual judges have, in comparison to the automatic judges, that display more uniform levels of relevance across all the four perceptual parameters. This aspect shows that an automatic approach promotes unbiased, reliable and more objective predictions. What are the clinical implications of this work?: The automatic prediction of speech intelligibility, using a combination of four perceptual parameters, show that these approaches can achieve high correlations with the reference scores while maintaining a certain degree of explainability. The more uniform judge profiles found on the automatic case also display less biased results towards the four perceptual parameters. Notwithstanding ever-increasing reservoirs of scientific knowledge, uncertainty is a fundamental part of human existence that will never be eliminated. This paper focuses on the concept of existential uncertainty by exploring how people living with cancer construct their sense of the unknown. We interviewed six people who had received a cancer diagnosis in the last five years on the subject of their uncertainty, inviting them to talk about objects that were related to this uncertainty and to answer questions about their experience of uncertainty. A deductive thematic analysis of the interviews generated commonalities in the way they expressed the existential aspect of their uncertainty, namely: a struggle to put it into words; a resort to metaphorical modes of expression; and a sense that the process of doing so was somehow "weird." We suggest that it is difficult for people to express their existential uncertainty directly and in the conventional terms of a medico-scientific discourse, and that they resort to alternative discourses that are more amenable to metaphor to do so. It is important for clinicians offering psychological support to be aware that clients may express uncertainty in this way so they can deepen rather than thwart their meaning-making process. Despite considerable advancements in the treatment technologies in recent years, the five-year survival rate for lung cancer patients remains low. In this context, the discovery of pyroptosis, a unique cell death mechanism, offers a novel perspective for exploring new pathways of lung cancer treatment. Particularly, the role of gasdermin E (GSDME) in the process of pyroptosis reveals its tremendous potential in lung cancer therapy. Recent studies have made considerable progress in understanding the role of GSDME-mediated pyroptosis in lung cancer growth, the lung cancer microenvironment, and the effect of GSDME methylation on lung cancer treatment. In particular, patients recruited for the study undertook a path through which their nutritional and psychological status was assessed, improved and reinforced, ultimately leading to ameliorating their quality of life and, eventually, the outcome of their disease. This paper presents a multi-professional integrated approach toward the recognition and management of the nutritional and psychological needs of cancer patients. In particular, the patients undertook a multi-professional, multistep process that included the collection of both personal and clinical data, the evaluation of anthropometric measures, nutritional status and psychometric indices, and an ensuing personalized nutritional prescription and psychological support, ultimately leading to combined nutritional and psychological interventions to control their adherence to a nutritional program and to consolidate motivation to change. Overall, 120 patients were recruited for the study. The majority (84.2%) were female. Breast cancer was by far the most frequent malignancy (52.5%), followed by colorectal (17.5%), pancreatic (9.2%), ovarian (9.2%) and lung (5.0%) cancers. The results of the nutritional and psychological screening at baseline indicated that only 35% of patients had a normal BMI, whilst a relatively high proportion (nearly 32%) was overweight or obese (25%). The INRAN and MEDI-LITE questionnaires, which were used to assess the eating habits and adherence to a Mediterranean diet, respectively, revealed a mixed prevalence of cereals/cereal-based, fresh/processed meat, and fish or fishery food, with a medium–low adherence to the Mediterranean diet in nearly 38% of patients. The BUT, HADS and SF-36 tests, which were used to assess psychological disturbances, showed that 37.5% of patients had disorders regarding body image, 29.2% had abnormal anxiety and 20.0% had a depressive state, while no significant association was observed between the SF-36 PCS and MCS and the patients′ characteristics. Simple Summary: The aim of this paper is to outline the role and potential benefits of physical activity for cancer patients. We present a review of publications on the subject in order to compare the findings reported in the literature and draw general conclusions that could help clinicians who provide cancer care to develop a more comprehensive treatment approach. This review may also help patients overcome barriers and become more motivated to take up physical activity, which would improve their quality of life. We wish to demonstrate to patients that physical activity should not be regarded as a burdensome medical recommendation but rather as a factor that can reduce the risk of cancer mortality and recurrence. In 2020, 19.3 million new cancer cases were diagnosed, and almost 10 million deaths from cancer were recorded. Cancer patients may experience fatigue, depression, anxiety, reduced quality of life and sleep problems. Cancer treatments cause numerous side effects and have a negative impact on all body systems. Physical activity is important for cancer patients. The aim of this review is to analyse recent studies on the role of physical activity in cancer patients and emphasize its importance. The review included 36 papers published in English between 2017 and 2021. The findings from these studies show that physical activity decreases the severity of side effects of cancer treatment, reduces fatigue, improves quality of life, has a positive impact on mental health and improves aerobic fitness in cancer patients. Moreover, it reduces the risk of cancer recurrence and death. Physical activity is recommended for patients with any type of cancer and at all stages of treatment. The type of physical activity should depend on the condition of the individual patient. Antimicrobial stewardship programs represent efficacious measures for reducing antibiotic overuse and improving outcomes in different settings. Specific data on pediatric oncology are lacking. We conducted a systematic review on the PubMed and Trip databases according to the PRISMA guidelines, searching for reports regarding antimicrobial stewardship in pediatric oncology and hematology patients. The aim of the study was to summarize the present literature regarding the implementation of antimicrobial stewardship programs or initiatives in this particular population, and provide insights for future investigations. Nine papers were included in the qualitative analysis: three regarding antifungal interventions, five regarding antibacterial interventions, and one regarding both antifungal and antibacterial stewardship interventions. Variable strategies were reported among the included studies. Different parameters were used to evaluate the impact of these interventions, including days of therapy per 1000-patient-days, infections with resistant strains, safety analysis, and costs. We generally observed a reduction in the prescription of broad-spectrum antibiotics and an improved appropriateness, with reduced antibiotic-related side effects and no difference in infection-related mortality. Antibiotic stewardship programs or interventions are effective in reducing antibiotic consumption and improving outcomes in pediatric oncology hematology settings, although stewardship strategies differ substantially in different institutions. A standardized approach needs to be implemented in future studies in order to better elucidate the impact of stewardship programs in this category of patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The purpose of this study was to translate the Stoma‐quality of life into Chinese and evaluate its psychometric properties in Chinese patients. Background: Quality of life is an important issue for patients with colostomy, and its appropriate and precise measurement is beneficial to promoting better care. The Stoma‐quality of life questionnaire has been widely used; however, the validity and reliability of its Chinese version has not been determined. Design A cross‐sectional validation study was conducted. Methods: We translated the Stoma‐quality of life into Chinese using standardized methods. Then it was psychometrically tested on a convenience sample of 513 patients with colostomy. Construct validity was evaluated via exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was measured with Cronbach's alpha and the split‐half Spearman–Brown coefficient. Results: The content validity, the Cronbach's α coefficient and the Spearman–Brown split‐half reliability coefficient indicated adequate validity and reliability. The exploratory factor analysis yielded four common factors, and the cumulative variance contribution rate was 67.5%. Moreover, the confirmatory factor analysis showed a good model fit. Conclusion: This study confirmed that the Chinese version of Stoma‐quality of life is an effective and reliable measurement for evaluating the quality of life of patients with colostomy. Quality of life (QOL) is an important issue for patients with colostomy, and it is conducive to evaluate the effect of specific treatment and nursing interventions. Aim: The aim of this work is to explore the effectiveness of a mobile app to support oral mucositis care to improve the nutritional status and reduce the occurrence of oral mucositis of patients with head and neck cancer undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Background: Concurrent chemoradiotherapy is the optimal treatment for head and neck cancer, but oral mucositis and malnutrition are common complications. Design Quasi‐experimental study using a pre‐post design was used in this work. Method: Participants were recruited from a major regional hospital in Taiwan from July 2018 to July 2020. There were 32 participants in each group: the mobile app group (Intervention Group) or routine care (Control Group). The primary outcome measure was Patient‐Generated Subjective Global Assessment (PG‐SGA). We also collected data on grade of oral mucositis, painNnumeric Rating Scale (NRS), weight loss, haemoglobin (Hb), albumin and quality of life (QoL). Result: The PG‐SGA score was significantly lower in the intervention than the control group at all three time points. Hb and albumin decreased less significantly in the intervention than the control group after 2 months. The oral mucositis grade was significantly less severe in the intervention than the control group at all three time points; for the NRS, at T2 and T3. Conclusion: Using the mobile app effectively improved nutritional status, alleviated the side effects, and improved the QoL of head and neck cancer patients with concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Aims: This study aimed to investigate the usefulness of nonwearable actigraphy to assess changes in motor activity before and after rescue analgesic administration in terminally ill cancer patients. Background: Evaluating pain in terminally ill cancer patients is difficult; pain assessment tools are needed. Methods: This was an exploratory descriptive study conducted within a palliative care unit. A nonwearable actigraph was used to measure the activity score and movement index of terminally ill patients with weeks‐long prognosis and pain. The actigraph and medical data were integrated, and data were compared 6 h before and after rescue analgesic administration. Results: Among 10 patients (age: 75.8 ± 12.3 years; six men), we evaluated 28 pain episodes (mean activity score: 130.9 ± 180.5 counts per minute; movement index: 68.8%). When pain was relieved at night following rescue analgesic administration, activity score and movement index decreased significantly (6 h before vs. 6 h after analgesics, respectively: 113.1 to 69.7 counts per minute; 64.3% to 41.8%; both p < 0.0001). With no relief after rescue analgesic administration, activity score did not differ significantly 6 h before and after analgesics: 147.3 to 137.7 counts per minute. Conclusion: Pain in terminally ill cancer patients could be assessed using a nonwearable actigraph to capture motor activity and improve pain assessment. Pain assessment in terminally ill patients with cancer relies on a subjective patient complaint as well as observations by caregivers, such as nurses and physicians. Aim: The aim of this study is to explore the effects of exercise interventions by type, duration and intensity of exercise for fatigue in breast cancer survivors who had completed their treatment. Background: Most studies found that exercise has valuable outcomes for cancer survivors. This meta‐analysis comprehensively summarizes the benefits of exercise intervention for fatigue in breast cancer patients who had completed their adjuvant treatments. Methods: We conducted a meta‐analysis on randomized control trials published during 1 January 2000 through 31 December 2019, from PubMed, Cochrane Library databases, EMBASE, Medline (ProQuest), CINAHL, PsycINFO, Chinese Electronic Periodical Service and Wan Fan Data with prespecified searching criteria. Breast cancer patients earlier than stage IIIc and completing adjuvant treatments were included, and the effects of exercise on fatigue were investigated. Results: Nine randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included (N = 581). Patients receiving exercise interventions showed reduced fatigue comparing with those without exercise. Exercise with low–moderate intensity, 20 min/day, three times per week and lasting up to 12 weeks had a significant effect on reducing fatigue for breast cancer survivors. Conclusion: Our study suggested that exercise interventions can reduce fatigue for this group of cancer survivors. The duration and intensity of exercise intervention could be prescribed for this specific group of cancer patients as a basic requirement to handle their reported fatigue. Aims: Effective methods for relieving pain in inserting a needle for chemotherapy in cancer patients have been studied. This study examined the pain relief effects during needle insertion into the implanted venous access chemoport by comparing three methods. Methods: This randomized controlled trial included 120 cancer patients who were randomly assigned. The experimental groups received applications of lidocaine cream (n = 30), cryotherapy (n = 30) and cutaneous stimulation therapy (n = 30); the control group (n = 30) received routine care. Premeasurements and postmeasurements were evaluated using a visual analogue pain scale and nurses' careful observations of patients' pain behaviour checklists during needle insertion. Results: Pain levels were reduced by all three interventions, with the level of relief depending on the type of application. All experimental groups showed significant reduction in pain compared with the control group. Lidocaine cream had the strongest effect, followed by cryotherapy and then cutaneous stimulation. Conclusion: Lidocaine cream, cryotherapy and cutaneous stimulation therapy all reduced cancer patients' pain levels during insertion of an implanted central venous access chemoport needle. Nurses can apply cryotherapy and cutaneous stimulation therapy independently to reduce the pain associated with this procedure. Future studies should consider using these methods to control for any individual differences that may exist. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Implanted venous access chemoport needle insertion is a frequently performed procedure in clinical oncology, often causing pain in patients.Nurses should be aware of the pain patients experience during these invasive procedures and understand the pharmacological and nonpharmacological methods that can minimize pain. Aim: To present the findings of a systematic review on reported quality of life following the formation of a urinary diversion as a result of cystectomy due to urinary bladder neoplasm. Background: Bladder cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer of the urological system. Treatment often involves undergoing a radical cystectomy with an ileal conduit formation. Quality of life issues associated with this surgery are complex and varied. Design A systematic review using thematic synthesis. Data Sources: A comprehensive search, using The Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PubMed and PsycInfo databases, focusing on the years from 2007 to 2020. Review methods: The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta‐Analyses was the chosen checklist used. Studies were critically appraised using the Crowe Critical Appraisal Tool. Results: The formation of an ileal conduit negatively affects respondent's quality of life particularly regarding body image, social distress, reduced sexual activity and employment. Poor research focus on the impact of ileal conduit formation on sexual well‐being postoperatively was apparent. Conclusions: Further research using qualitative methodologies is needed to gain a deeper understanding of how this life‐changing procedure impacts quality of life. Aims and objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of narrative therapy in relieving stigma in oral cancer patients who underwent major surgical treatment. Background: Health‐related stigma compromises mental health and life quality in people with physical or mental abnormalities. Narrative therapy has been implemented to overcome stigma among populations in a diversity of disease states. However, the effectiveness of narrative therapy in relieving stigma among patients with oral cancer is not known. Design This study was a randomized controlled trial, in which 100 oral cancer patients were selected and randomly assigned to the 'narrative therapy' group, who received narrative therapy treatment in addition to standard care, and the 'control' group, who was provided standard care only. Methods: This research combined measurement of several questionnaires to evaluate stigma. Analysis of variance and paired t tests were employed for data analysis. Results: Findings in this study demonstrated that narrative therapy treatment effectively relieved oral cancer patients' sense of shame, reducing overall stigma and significantly improving self‐esteem and social relationships. Conclusions: Narrative therapy was demonstrated to be a promising therapeutic intervention for stigma relief in oral cancer patients. Summary statement: What is already known about this topic? Stigma is common among oral cancer patients, especially those who undergo major surgical resection. This paper explores the relationship between the clinical value of vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) in lung cancer tissue and its diagnosis and severity. Totally 100 patients who were clinically diagnosed with lung cancer from January 2018 to December 2020 were enrolled in our study. They were assigned into two groups according to the presence of lymph node metastasis. The VASP levels were measured by flow cytometry. The correlation between the expression of VASP in tumor tissue and the clinical characteristics and prognosis in patients was analyzed. The diagnostic efficacy of plasma VASP with squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC), neuron-specific enolase (NSE), cytokeratin-19 fragment (CYFRA21-1), prosecretin-releasing peptide (proGRP), and lung cancer was analyzed. The results were compared with APACHE III score to evaluate the accuracy of VASP in determining the severity of patients. This paper finds that the value of VASP in the non-lymph node metastasis group was significantly higher than that in the healthy control group, and the VASP level in the lymph node metastasis group was significantly higher than that in the non-lymph node metastasis group and the healthy control group (all p values <0.05). The APACHE III score of the lymph node metastasis group was higher than that of the non-lymph node metastasis group (p value <0.05). The diagnostic efficacy of VASP is similar to that of SCC, NSE, CYFRA21-1, and proGRP. The plasma VASP value was statistically different in the survival group and the death group, with higher level observed in the death group compared to survival group (all p values <0.05). The value of plasma VASP alone and acute physiology and chronic health evaluations III (APACHE III) score for lung cancer mortality was similar (47.06% vs. 52.94%, p value >0.05). Similar accuracy was observed in VASP and APACHE III score in predicting mortality of lung cancer (84.37% vs. 85.77%, p value>0.05). Introduction: The number of women diagnosed with breast cancer has been rising globally over the past few decades. Upon hearing of a breast cancer diagnosis, women face many challenges including emotional distress, body image issues and sexual dysfunction. Regarding the importance of sexuality for breast cancer patients, this paper aims to validate the sexual health needs of women with breast cancer. Aim: To assess the sexual health needs of women with breast cancer and a need for further research. Materials and Methods: This research is a rapid review conducted in Iran, in April 2020. Databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus and Web of Science as well as the Iranian Scientific Information Database (SID), were searched with mentioned keywords, "Female Breast Cancer", "Sex Counselling", "Female Sexual Dysfunction" and "Sexual Health Needs". Results: This review included 16 studies with one randomised clinical trial, four cross-sectional, four review articles, three qualitative articles, three mixed-method studies and one cohort. This study highlights four major sexuality-related information needs of women with breast cancer including: informational need about sexual activity; informational need about fertility-preserving options before starting breast cancer treatment; informational need about prosthesis or breast reconstruction surgery, and informational need about physical changes caused by breast cancer treatments. Conclusion: This review highlight the importance of sexual health needs for female breast cancer patients. However, little attention has been received from women's health professionals and researchers and further research on sexuality and breast cancer is recommended to affirm these research findings. Background: Breast cancer is the most common tumor among women throughout the world. Diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer are associated with stress and depression. Self-efficacy is one of the most important personal characteristics, studied in cancer, and is correlated with depression and immunity. The aim of the study is as follows: 1. Examining the correlation between coping self-efficacy with depression, DHEA levels, and immunity 2. Examining the correlation between depression and DHEA levels 3. Studying the effect of depression and DHEA levels on immunity 4. Examining the intermediate effect of DHEA levels on the correlation between coping self-efficacy and immunity Methods: Thirty newly diagnosed breast cancer patients recruited from the Oncology Department, Kasr EL-Aini, Cairo University (ages 51.40 + 8.24 years) responded to two questionnaires: Coping Self-Efficacy Scale (CSES) and Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9); blood samples were collected to measure the phenotype of patients' cellular immunity and DHEA levels by flowcytometry and ELISA technique. Results: There was a significant negative correlation between CSES and PHQ-9, a significant positive correlation between PHQ-9 and B-cell count, and there is a significant negative correlation between CSES and B-cell count. The presence of DHEA has no mediatory role on correlation between CSES and B-cell count. Conclusion: This paper presents a new model of psychoneuroimmunology by suggesting an effect of coping self-efficacy on immunity against breast cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Reading has long been acknowledged as beneficial to physical and mental health. Many studies confirm bibliotherapy, or reading for therapy, has a meaningful place in the treatment toolkit for mild to moderate mental health conditions, chronic pain and loneliness. However, the joy and health benefits of reading can be denied to those undergoing cancer treatment because reading can become a frustrating, demanding activity due to cancer-related cognitive impairment. Fortunately, listening to a story provides a way to share stories with those suffering from this common side-effect. Integrative oncology employs a number of complementary therapies, however there is also a potential place for bibliotherapy. Utilising the warmth of real-time, in-person reading aloud, this research explores the extent to which a read-aloud program is associated with improvements in the emotional wellbeing of people undergoing cancer treatment. Bibliotherapy comes in many guises and fiction was utilised in this study. A potential outcome of this study may be to help make a case for the use of bibliotherapy as a psychosocial intervention for people affected by cancer, in particular under the guise of bibliotherapy via reading aloud. Simple Summary: This paper describes a new MR imaging technique known as downfield MR spectroscopic imaging (DF-MRSI) that has only recently been shown to be possible in the human brain on commonly available 3 Tesla MRI scanners. This is the first application of this methodology to human brain tumors. Purpose: To investigate the use of 3D downfield proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging (DF-MRSI) for evaluation of tumor recurrence in patients with glioblastoma (GBM). Methods: Seven patients (4F, age range 44–65 and mean ± standard deviation 59.3 ± 7.5 years) with previously treated GBM were scanned using a recently developed 3D DF-MRSI sequence at 3T. Short TE 3D DF-MRSI and water reference 3D-MRSI scans were collected with a nominal spatial resolution of 0.7 cm3. DF volume data in eight slices covered 12 cm of brain in the cranio-caudal axis. Data were analyzed using the 'LCModel' program and a basis set containing nine peaks ranging in frequency between 6.83 to 8.49 ppm. The DF8.18 (assigned to amides) and DF7.90 peaks were selected for the creation of metabolic images and statistical analysis. Longitudinal MR images and clinical history were used to classify brain lesions as either recurrent tumor or treatment effect, which may include necrosis. DF-MRSI data were compared between lesion groups (recurrent tumor, treatment effect) and normal-appearing brain. Results: Of the seven brain tumor patients, two were classified as having recurrent tumor and the rest were classified as treatment effect. Amide metabolite levels from recurrent tumor regions were significantly (p < 0.05) higher compared to both normal-appearing brain and treatment effect regions. Amide levels in lesion voxels classified as treatment effect were significantly lower than normal brain. Conclusions: 3D DF-MRSI in human brain tumors at 3T is feasible and was well tolerated by all patients enrolled in this preliminary study. Amide levels measured by 3D DF-MRSI were significantly different between treatment effect and tumor regrowth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
