Telegram, an Industry 4.0 style communication service, is one of the world's most widespread communication platforms. The availability of channels and bots has opened as a broadcast channel for any media outlet. We asked the following questions: Do media outlets from Spain use Telegram channels? Which media outlets? Are they verified? What is their volume of subscribers? Can this information be used to rank media outlets? We identified many media channels and data were collected from each one. We present the results in a ranking. Forty-two media based in Spain have Telegram channels, 26 of which are ranked in the directory. Less than half of these channels are verified by the platform, and only three are linked to their website. This lack of verification could lead to the proliferation of fake channels. The present study investigates language manipulation strategies and ideological features in online news headlines in France24 and RT broadcasting channels in French and English, respectively. The researchers investigate how news about the Syrian crisis is viewed from two different points of view, namely French and Russian. Headlines in the two languages are analysed according to the principles of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA). Results show that both France24 and RT news headlines report news about the Syrian crisis using different choices of vocabulary, leading to different, ideologically driven interpretations. In other words, France24 news headlines select specific terminology to depict France and its allies as "peacemakers" in Syria. Conversely, Russia-along with its allies-are described in France24 headlines as 'instigators of chaos". However, in RT news headlines, the vocabulary selection describes Russia as a "conflict resolver" in Syria, whereas rival countries of Russia are viewed as "rogue interveners". The autonomous public mass media must strengthen the linguistic and cultural diversity of a region. It is questioned whether its financing and management model is appropriate in view of the economic problems it often faces. It has been studied the efficiency of 11 Spanish public broadcasting channels using data envelopment analysis to know which ones have a higher efficiency and to determine in what ways should the lower efficiency channels improve. Two explicit schemes are designed to illustrate bidirectional controlled teleportation in a fair and practical manner. One is a symmetric scheme for single-qutrit states. The other is an asymmetric scheme for single- and two-qutrit states. Then, we extend three-dimensional system to high-dimensional system and come up with a universal scheme for arbitrary n 1 - and n 2 -qudit states by using a (2 n 1 + 2 n 2 + 1) -qudit entangled state as the quantum channel, where n 1 ≤ n 2 . The senders and the controller need to perform general Bell basis measurement and Z basis measurement, respectively. According to their measurement results, the receivers can reestablish the initial states simultaneously by performing single-qudit recovery operations which are derived by a general formula. It is worth mentioning that 2 n 1 + 1 dit classical communication cost is saved at the controller's broadcast channel with the aid of network coding. The original coded caching scenario assumes a content library that is of interest to all receiving users. In a realistic scenario though, the users may have diverging interests which may intersect to various degrees. What happens for example if each file is of potential interest to, say, 40% of the users and each user has potential interest in 40% of the library? In this work, we investigate the so- called symmetrically selfish coded caching scenario, where each user only makes requests from a subset of the library that defines its own file demand set (FDS), each user caches selfishly only contents from its own FDS, and where the different FDSs symmetrically overlap to some extent. In the context of various traditional prefetching scenarios (prior to the emergence of coded caching), selfish approaches were known to be potentially very effective. On the other hand — with the exception of some notable works — little is known about selfish coded caching. We here present a new information-theoretic converse that proves, in a general setting of symmetric FDS structures, that selfish coded caching, despite enjoying a much larger local caching gain and a much smaller set of possible demands, introduces an unbounded load increase compared to the unselfish case. In particular, in the $K$ -user broadcast channel where each user stores a fraction $\gamma $ of the library, where each file (class) is of interest to $\alpha $ users, and where any one specific file is of interest to a fraction $\delta $ of users, the optimal coding gain of symmetrically selfish caching is at least $(K - \alpha)\gamma + 1$ times smaller than in the unselfish scenario. This allows us to draw the powerful conclusion that the optimal selfish coding gain is upper bounded by $1/(1 - \delta)$ , and thus does not scale with $K$. These derived limits are shown to be exact for different types of demands. Minimum energy required to achieve a distortion-noise profile, i.e., a function indicating the maximum allowed distortion value for each channel noise level, is studied for transmission of Gaussian sources over Gaussian channels. A general coding scheme is proposed to upper bound the minimum energy needed for any distortion-noise profile. Conversely, utilizing a family of lower bounds originally derived for broadcast channels with power constraints, the minimum required energy is lower bounded for any profile. As examples, linear, exponential, square-law, and staircase profiles are studied. It is shown that for the linear profile, as well as for any concave profile, uncoded transmission is optimal. As a negative result, it is shown that exponential profiles are not achievable with finite energy. RFID (radio frequency identification) is an Internet of Things (IoT) enabling technology. All physical devices can be connected to the Internet of Things thanks to RFID. When RFID is extensively utilized and fast increasing, security and privacy concerns are unavoidable. Interception, manipulation, and replay of the wireless broadcast channel between the tag and the reader are all possible security threats. Unverified tags or readers provide untrustworthy messages. IoT requires a safe and consistent RFID authentication system. PUFs are also physical one-way functions made up of the unique nanoscopic structure of physical things and their reactivity to random occurrences. PUF includes an unclonable feature that takes advantage of physical characteristics to boost security and resistance to physical attacks. We analyze the security of the RSEAP2 authentication protocol that has been recently proposed by Safkhani et al., a hash-based protocol, and elliptic curve cryptosystem-based protocol. Our security analysis clearly shows important security pitfalls in RSEAP2 such as mutual authentication, session key agreement, and denial-of-service attack. In our proposed work, we improved their scheme and enhanced their version using physically unclonable function (PUF), which are used by the proposed protocol in tags. This research proposes a cloud-based RFID authentication technique that is both efficient and trustworthy. To decrease the RFID tag's overhead, the suggested authentication approach not only resists the aforementioned typical assaults and preserves the tag's privacy, but also incorporates the cloud server into the RFID system. According to simulation results, our approach is efficient. Moreover, according to our security study, our protocol can withstand a variety of attacks, including tracking, replay, and desynchronization assaults. Our scheme withstands all the 18 security features and further consumes the computation cost as 14.7088 ms which is comparable with the other schemes. Similarly, our scheme consumes the communication cost as 672 bits during the sending mode and 512 bits during the receiving mode. Overall, the performance of our proposed method is equivalent to that of related schemes and provides additional security features than existing protocols. Mutual authentication, session key generation, and ephemeral session security are all achieved. Using the real-or-random concept, we formalize the security of the proposed protocol. The spherical-cap approximation of vector quantization (SCVQ) is an analytical model used for the mathematical analysis of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems with limited feedback. SCVQ closely emulates the distribution of the quantization error induced by the finite-rate quantization of a channel using a simple and analytically tractable approach. However, the conventional SCVQ model is not applicable when antenna-combining schemes such as quantization-based combining (QBC) are considered. Because QBC is an effective antenna-combining method that minimizes channel quantization errors, it can be adopted for various practical MIMO broadcast systems. Nevertheless, evaluating the performance of QBC-based MIMO systems with an explicit codebook can be extremely difficult, depending on the system complexity. To resolve this, this study generalizes the conventional SCVQ to be compatible with the QBC. The proposed generalized version of the SCVQ effectively emulates the quantization error obtained using QBC, while enabling a simple simulation independent of the number of feedback bits and mathematically tractable analysis. Aligned-Images Sum-set Inequalities are used in this work to study the Generalized Degrees of Freedom (GDoF) of the symmetric layered multi-hop interference channel under the robust assumption that the channel state information at the transmitters (CSIT) is limited to finite precision. First, the sum-GDoF value is characterized for the $2\times 2\times 2$ setting that is comprised of 2 sources, 2 relays, and 2 destinations. It is shown that the sum-GDoF does not improve even if perfect CSIT is allowed in the first hop, as long as the CSIT in the second hop is limited to finite precision. The sum GDoF characterization is then generalized to the $2\times 2\times \cdots \times 2$ setting that is comprised of $L$ hops. Remarkably, for large $L$ , the sum-GDoF value approaches that of the one-hop broadcast channel that is obtained by full cooperation among the two transmitters of the last hop, with finite precision CSIT. Previous studies of multi-hop interference networks either identified sophisticated GDoF optimal schemes under perfect CSIT, such as aligned interference neutralization and network diagonalization, that are powerful in theory but too fragile to be practical, or studied robust achievable schemes like classical amplify/decode/compress-and-forward without claims of information-theoretic optimality. In contrast, under finite precision CSIT, we show that the benefits of fragile schemes are lost, while a combination of classical random coding schemes that are simpler and much more robust, namely a rate-splitting between decode-and-forward and amplify-and-forward, is shown to be GDoF optimal. As such, this work represents another step towards bridging the gap between theory (optimality) and practice (robustness) with the aid of Aligned-Images Sum-set Inequalities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

We consider a transmitter and $K$ receivers, each of which shares a key variable with the transmitter. Through a noiseless broadcast channel, the transmitter wishes to send a common message $W$ securely to $N$ out of the $K$ receivers while the remaining $K-N$ receivers learn no information about $W$. We are interested in the maximum message rate, i.e., the maximum number of bits of $W$ that can be securely groupcast to the legitimate receivers per key block and the minimum broadcast bandwidth, i.e., the minimum number of bits of the broadcast information required to securely groupcast the message bits. We focus on the setting of combinatorial keys, where every subset of the $K$ receivers share an independent key of arbitrary size. Under this combinatorial key setting, the maximum message rate is characterized for the following scenarios - 1) $N=1$ or $N=K-1$ , i.e., secure unicast to 1 receiver with $K-1$ eavesdroppers or secure groupcast to $K-1$ receivers with 1 eavesdropper, 2) $N=2, K=4$ , i.e., secure groupcast to 2 out of 4 receivers, and 3) the symmetric setting where the key size for any subset of the same cardinality is equal for any $N,K$. Fifth generation mobile communication systems (5G) have to accommodate both Ultra-Reliable Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) and enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB) services. While eMBB applications support high data rates, URLLC services aim at guaranteeing low-latencies and high-reliabilities. eMBB and URLLC services are scheduled on the same frequency band, where the different latency requirements of the communications render their coexistence challenging. In this survey, we review, from an information theoretic perspective, coding schemes that simultaneously accommodate URLLC and eMBB transmissions and show that they outperform traditional scheduling approaches. Various communication scenarios are considered, including point-to-point channels, broadcast channels, interference networks, cellular models, and cloud radio access networks (C-RANs). The main focus is on the set of rate pairs that can simultaneously be achieved for URLLC and eMBB messages, which captures well the tension between the two types of communications. We also discuss finite-blocklength results where the measure of interest is the set of error probability pairs that can simultaneously be achieved in the two communication regimes. We introduce a new analysis technique to derive a single-letter upper bound on the mismatch capacity of a stationary, single-user, memoryless channel with a decoding metric $q$. Our bound is obtained by considering a multicast transmission over a two-user broadcast channel with decoding metrics $q$ and $\rho $ at the receivers, referred to as $(q,\rho)$ -surely degraded. This channel has the property that the intersection event of correct $q$ -decoding of receiver 1 and erroneous $\rho $ -decoding of receiver 2 has zero probability for any fixed-composition codebook of a certain composition $P$. Our bound holds in the strong converse sense of an exponential decay of the probability of correct decoding at rates above the bound. Further, we refine the proof and present a bound that is tighter than that of any choice of $\rho $. Several examples that demonstrate the strict improvement of our bound compared to previous results are analyzed. Finally, we detect equivalence classes of isomorphic channel-metric pairs $(W,q)$ that share the same mismatch capacity. We prove that if the class contains a matched pair, then our bound is tight and the mismatch capacity of the entire class is fully characterized and is equal to the LM rate, which is achievable by random coding, and may be strictly lower that the matched capacity. In this work, we consider the transmissions of structured data such as text over a noisy channel and correlated texts over a broadcast channel. As the separate source-channel coding principle no longer holds in such scenarios, we propose a joint source-channel coding scheme which is based on deep learning architecture. In order to enhance the convergence speed, we adopt the bidirectional gated recurrent unit at the encoder. For the decoder, to improve the recovery quality, we propose the following two types of strategies: (1) After a unidirectional neural network based decoder is used, a generative adversarial network is applied to train the whole joint source-channel coding framework and pointwise mutual information is added to the objective function of beam search process; (2) Rather than using a unidirectional neural network-based decoder, we develop a bidirectional neural network based and bidirectional attention mechanism integrated decoder to utilize past and future information. Experiments under different types of channels show that our schemes are superior to the existing deep learning joint source-channel coding method and in the case of low bit budget, long sentence length and small channel signal to noise ratio, our models are significantly superior to those of separate source-channel coding. In addition, we extend the proposed unidirectional and bidirectional decoders to the broadcast channel. Additionally, to improve the performance of unidirectional decoding, we utilize not only the correlation between adjacent words in the same text but also the correlation between words in different languages with the same meaning in the beam search process. We propose a W state-based protocol for anonymously transmitting quantum messages in a quantum network. Different from the existing protocols [A. Unnikrishnan, et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 122, 240501 (2019)], the proposed protocol can be effectively implemented in the network only equipped with quantum channels and regular broadcast channels. Throughout the design procedure, we develop three sub-protocols using the W state, including the quantum collision detection protocol and the quantum notification protocol. Moreover, together with the conventional anonymous entanglement protocol, the whole anonymous communication protocol has been constructed. We investigate the nonlinear spillover and portfolio allocation characteristics of the US and Canadian energy equity portfolios. Our empirical study based on directional spillover index and non‐convex portfolio optimization show that the spillover effects in the aggregate are smaller for the US portfolio across time. However, when only the largest spillover transmitters and receivers are considered, the total spillover effects are lower for the Canadian portfolio relative to the US portfolio. These portfolio optimization results indicate lower portfolio allocation risk for the Canadian energy equities during the global financial crisis of 2008 and for the full sample period. Connectivity between populations is important when considering conservation or the management of exploitation of vulnerable species. We investigated how populations of a broadcast‐spawning marine species (scallop, Pecten maximus) that occur in discrete geographic locations were connected to each other. Population genetic insights were related to the outputs from a three‐dimensional hydrodynamic model implemented with scallop larval behaviour to understand the extent to which these areas were linked by oceanographic processes and how this was altered by season and two contrasting years that had strongly different average temperature records (warm vs cold) to provide contrasting oceanographic conditions. Our results span from regional to shelf scale. Connectivity was high at a regional level (e.g. northern Irish Sea), but lower at scales >100 km between sites. Some localities were possibly isolated thus dependent on self‐recruitment to sustain local populations. Seasonal timing of spawning and inter‐annual fluctuations in seawater temperature influenced connectivity patterns, and hence will affect spatial recruitment. Summer rather than spring spawning increased connectivity among some populations, due to the seasonal strengthening of temperature‐driven currents. Furthermore, the warm year resulted in higher levels of modelled connectivity than the cold year. The combination of genetic and oceanographic approaches provided valuable insights into the structure and connectivity at a continental shelf scale. This insight provides a powerful basis for defining conservation management units and the appropriate scale for spatial management. Temporal fluctuations in temperature impact upon variability in connectivity, suggesting that future work should account for ocean warming when investigating population resilience. Achievable data rates in wireless systems rely heavily on the available channel state information (CSI) throughout the network. However, feedback links, which provide this information, are scarce, unreliable, and subject to security threats. In this work, we study the impact of having intermittent feedback links on the capacity region of the canonical two-user erasure broadcast channels. In our model, at any time instant, each receiver broadcasts its CSI, and at any other node, this information either becomes available with unit delay or gets erased. For this setting, we develop a new set of outer bounds to capture the intermittent nature of the feedback links. These outer bounds depend on the probability that the CSI from both receivers are erased at the transmitter. In particular, if at any time, the CSI from at least one of the two receivers is available at the other two nodes, then the outer-bounds match the capacity with global delayed CSI. We also provide capacity-achieving transmission strategies under certain scenarios, and we establish a connection between this problem and Blind Index Coding with feedback. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This work introduces channel-supermodular entropies, a subset of quasi-concave entropies. Channel-supermodularity is a property shared by some of the most commonly used entropies in the literature, including Arimoto–Rényi conditional entropies (which include Shannon and min-entropy as special cases), k-tries entropies, and guessing entropy. Based on channel-supermodularity, new preorders for channels that strictly include degradedness and inclusion (or Shannon ordering) are defined, and these preorders are shown to provide a sufficient condition for the more-capable and capacity ordering, not only for Shannon entropy but also regarding analogous concepts for other entropy measures. The theory developed is then applied in the context of query anonymization. We introduce a greedy algorithm based on channel-supermodularity for query anonymization and prove its optimality, in terms of information leakage, for all symmetric channel-supermodular entropies. In this work, we consider the zero-delay transmission of bivariate Gaussian sources over a Gaussian broadcast channel with one-bit analog-to-digital converter (ADC) front ends. An outer bound on the conditional distortion region is derived. Focusing on the minimization of the average distortion, two types of methods are proposed to design nonparametric mappings. The first one is based on the joint optimization between the encoder and decoder with the use of an iterative algorithm. In the second method, we derive the necessary conditions to develop the optimal encoder numerically. Using these necessary conditions, an algorithm based on gradient descent search is designed. Subsequently, the characteristics of the optimized encoding mapping structure are discussed, and inspired by which, several parametric mappings are proposed. Numerical results show that the proposed parametric mappings outperform the uncoded scheme and previous parametric mappings for broadcast channels with infinite resolution ADC front ends. The nonparametric mappings succeed in outperforming the parametric mappings. The causes for the differences between the performances of two nonparametric mappings are analyzed. The average distortions of the parametric and nonparametric mappings proposed here are close to the bound for the cases with one-bit ADC front ends in low channel signal-to-noise ratio regions. In this article, the sum secure degrees-of-freedom (SDoF) of the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) X channel with confidential messages (XCCM) and arbitrary antenna configurations is studied, where there is no channel state information (CSI) at two transmitters and only delayed CSI at a multiple-antenna, full-duplex, and decode-and-forward relay. We aim at establishing the sum-SDoF lower and upper bounds. For the sum-SDoF lower bound, we design three relay-aided transmission schemes, namely, the relay-aided jamming scheme, the relay-aided jamming and one-receiver interference alignment scheme, and the relay-aided jamming and two-receiver interference alignment scheme, each corresponding to one case of antenna configurations. Moreover, the security and decoding of each scheme are analyzed. The sum-SDoF upper bound is proposed by means of the existing SDoF region of two-user MIMO broadcast channel with confidential messages (BCCM) and delayed channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). As a result, the sum-SDoF lower and upper bounds are derived, and the sum-SDoF is characterized when the relay has sufficiently large antennas. Furthermore, even assuming no CSI at two transmitters, our results show that a multiple-antenna full-duplex relay with delayed CSI can elevate the sum-SDoF of the MIMO XCCM. This is corroborated by the fact that the derived sum-SDoF lower bound can be greater than the sum-SDoF of the MIMO XCCM with output feedback and delayed CSIT. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
