The article is an obituary for Professor Dr. Hans-Jürgen Langholz from Göttingen. He was an outstanding scientist, university professor, and inspiring personality. Langholz studied agricultural sciences and specialized in animal breeding. He worked as a research assistant in Norway and obtained his doctorate in Göttingen. Later, he led an animal breeding project in Thailand and returned to Göttingen as a professor. Langholz played a significant role in the introduction of the collegial management structure of the Göttingen Animal Breeding Institute and published numerous research papers. He was awarded the Hermann-von-Nathusius Medal for his contributions to animal breeding. After his retirement, he continued to be involved in partnerships with universities in developing countries.
