While Monica Ali's remarkable novel Brick Lane narrates the experience of a Bangladeshi community living in the Towering Hamlets of London, it also focuses on the protagonist, Nazneen's struggle both as a woman and as an individual in a foreign country. Be it a process of assimilation or getting entrapped into cultural hybridization, while continuously encountering identity crisis, dislocation, and rotating in an 'un-homed' space, Nazneen was necessarily dealing with the complexities of transnational identity. Deriving from Bhaba's concept of cultural hybridization and the 'unhome,' this paper attempts to analyze the challenges Nazneen faced as an immigrant woman in London. Being married to a man with a patriarchal mindset, and living in a society bound with extreme cultural and religious values, this paper also explores Nanzeen's struggle to find an agency in her process of emancipation. Superseding the binary construct of the West and Islamic feminist ideas, and arguing that it was Nazneen's newly gained knowledge that gave her a true agency, this paper also offers an alternative understanding of Nazneen's emancipation process by discussing theorists like Talal Asad, Asma Barlas and Saba Mahmood. This paper intends to explore Affect as a potential source of both personal and political subjectivity, with special reference to Bangladeshi author Hasan Azizul Haque's historical novel Agun Pakhi (The Bird of Fire). Published in 2008, The Bird of Fire chronicles a highly eventful time in the history of the Indian subcontinent. The novel begins around twenty years before the partition of Bengal and goes on to document a number of socio-political upheavals of the time, including, for example, the Second World War, the Bengal famine of 1943, the partition of Bengal, and the ensuing unrest between the Hindus and Muslims. In The Bird of Fire, however, these events are documented not as external, 'outside' activities, and are instead mediated by and presented through the everyday domestic experiences of the novel's unnamed female protagonist. As a consequence, the 'mundane' in Haque's novel acquires political salience. In Haque's novel, qualities like tenderness and affection, which are usually taken to be signs of 'passive' femininity, come to play a crucial role in the protagonist's attempts to subjectivize her. This 'feminine' expression, in turn, is largely driven by Affective dimensions. By the virtue of her emotional response-ability, the protagonist succeeds in forging a new mode of resistance that challenges both political violence and patriarchy. By studying the form and content of Haque's novel, this paper explores how the notion of resistance in The Bird of Fire recalibrates itself in terms of the 'ordinariness' of the protagonist. This research paper explores the themes of conflict and peace in contemporary English and Iraqi drama. The paper analyzes several plays from both traditions to examine the portrayal of conflict and peace, as well as the cultural, political, and historical contexts that inform these portrayals. The paper argues that contemporary drama serves as a powerful means of artistic expression that reflects and responds to the complexities of the world around us. In English drama, conflict and peace are often portrayed as elusive and difficult to achieve. The plays examined in this paper depict a range of conflicts, including those arising from personal relationships, social injustice, and political upheaval. The paper analyzes the causes and effects of conflict in these plays, as well as the ways in which conflict is resolved or perpetuated. The examination of the challenges and benefits of achieving peace highlights the difficulties in achieving resolution and the toll that conflict takes on individuals and communities. In Iraqi drama, the potential for hope and reconciliation is emphasized, even in the most challenging circumstances. The paper examines the causes and effects of conflict in these plays, as well as the ways in which peace is achieved or lost. The examination of the cultural, political, and historical contexts that inform the portrayal of conflict and peace in Iraqi drama emphasizes the significance of Iraq's recent history of war and occupation and the ongoing struggle for social justice and human rights. The paper also identifies similarities and differences between the treatment of conflict and peace in the two traditions. While both English and Iraqi dramas address the complexities of conflict and the difficulties of achieving peace, they do so in different ways. This paper is an ecofeminist exploration of Pratibha Ray's (2001) one of the most imperative works The Primal Land, translated from Oriya text into English. The article presents grave issues on the themes of the exploitation of women within the community as well as the exploitation of the indigenous people at large, where nature becomes a spiritual and cultural symbol. The physical forces lurk upon tribal communities for the encroachment of land and the exploitation of natural reservoirs of resources and fracture the bond between nature and culture. Unrestrained hunger for modernization and urbanization leads to dissolving age-old bonds with nature and culture. Representation of internal and external conflicts where women are seen to work with a lot of burdens and face typical stringent traditional practices whereas external conflicts to preserve cultural identity and existence of ethnic community against the exploitative local government takes shape in this paper. Exploration of the life of the Bonda Tribe in the midst of the natural environment, their unique traditional practices, and their close affinity with nature as a spiritual being is presented through the ecofeminist holistic notion. This paper excavates the socio-ethnic tensions between the ethnic community and the politics of Development on one hand and the internal conflicts based on gender bias on the other.
