Background: Thyroid carcinoma (TC) is the most prevalent head and neck cancer. Pre-clinical students lacked essential knowledge of thyroid cancer. Furthermore, clinical years medical students needed more awareness of thyroid screening and self-examination. Consequently, this study aims to identify the knowledge and understanding of thyroid cancer, among Umm Al-Qura University medical students in Saudi Arabia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on undergraduate medical students in the third to sixth year of a medical college using an online questionnaire from April to June 2022. Results: A survey of 297 medical students from the 3rd to 6th year found that 46.1% knew all early signs of thyroid cancer, while only 12.5% did not know any diagnostic tools. Most participants (74.4%) knew all desirable candidates for a thyroid cancer screen. 260 (87.5%) students answered positively that any unexplained lump or swelling could be an early sign of cancer. The gender of the participants had a significant correlation with many factors related to student knowledge of thyroid cancer, with gender having a substantial correlation with only two early signs. The student's grade point average (GPA) and academic year also had a significant correlation with many factors related to thyroid cancer knowledge. Conclusion: Thyroid cancer prevalence can be reduced by increasing public awareness and knowledge of risk factors. Students’ knowledge and participation in public education can lead to better results. In addition, increased public awareness about early signs of thyroid cancer can improve overall disease prognosis, morbidity, and mortality.

Background: Gastrointestinal (GI) motility disorders are common in clinical settings, but physicians still lack sufficient understanding and effective management of these conditions. Methods: This research assessed Egyptian physicians' knowledge, practices, and attitudes towards GI motility disorders. A cross-sectional survey employing a self-administered questionnaire was carried out among physicians in Egypt. The questionnaire addressed various aspects of physicians' understanding, practices, and attitudes regarding GI motility disorders. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and presented as frequencies and percentages. Results: A total of 462 physicians took part in the study. Although nearly two-thirds of them knew about GI motility studies, a notable proportion lacked adequate knowledge about GI motility disorders. Notably, 84.2% correctly identified dysphagia as a critical symptom suggestive of an upper GI motility disorder. However, 13.4% incorrectly linked hematemesis with an upper GI motility disorder, and 16.7% expressed uncertainty. In terms of practice, around half of the participants encountered a small number of patients with GI motility disorders (less than 5 per week or even fewer). Only 29.7% felt confident in managing patients with motility disorders. Most participating physicians expressed a willingness to participate in training programs focused on motility disorders. Conclusions: This study underscores a knowledge gap among Egyptian physicians concerning GI motility disorders. Background: Surgical blepharoplasty has traditionally been used to rejuvenate the periorbita by removing excess tissue. While this often enhances appearance, it does not address the volume loss associated with aging. Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers have been used to address volume loss; however, issues such as the Tyndall effect, chronic edema, and the cost of repeated injections make them less than ideal. Advances in contemporary surgery have made autologous fat a natural alternative for filling volume loss in the periorbita. Fat grafting, whether using macrofat, microfat, or nanofat, can provide excellent results, but a separate procedure is required to harvest the fat from the patient. Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze and describe complications and patient satisfaction by comparing blepharoplasty alone with blepharoplasty combined with lipofilling. Methods: A retrospective review of a single surgeon's private practice cases was performed on 45 consecutive patients who underwent surgical blepharoplasty alone and 64 patients who had surgical blepharoplasty combined with lipofilling from 2002 to 2021. Complications, pain scores, and patient satisfaction reports were assessed. Results: Upon comparing the blepharoplasty alone group to the blepharoplasty with lipofilling group, the 109 patients did not differ significantly in age. Both groups were predominantly female. There were no major complications, only minor ones, and though the blepharoplasty alone group had a higher complication rate, this was not statistically significant. Lipofilling added approximately 30 minutes to the 60-minute blepharoplasty procedure, but pain scores were higher in the combination group. However, pain dissipated quickly and, while statistically significant, was not clinically significant. Patient satisfaction with the additional lipofilling was high, which resulted in lipofilling being added to all blepharoplasty procedures. Conclusions: Traditional surgical blepharoplasty can be combined with fat grafting techniques to address tissue loss and descent. Lipofilling integrated with blepharoplasty is a safe procedure. It is well tolerated by patients and provides high satisfaction with good aesthetic outcomes. The use of autologous fat offers an economical and effective advantage for patients. In this work, the geometric and electronic parameters of pure and vanadium-substituted anions of Lindqvist polyoxometalates have been investigated using DFT calculations. Active sites of all anions are identified through results on local and global reactivity descriptors. The results indicate that bridging oxygen atoms in all clusters are the most active sites. Using this, the mechanism of the catalytic generation of the hydroxyl radical from water was studied for the di-substituted Lindqvist polyoxometalate [V2Mo4O19]4−. This study provides a detailed understanding of this important intermediate step in photo-oxidation reactions. The mechanistic route makes it possible to locate transition states and intermediates structures and demonstrates that the pre-association of the water molecule leads to an H abstraction with an energy barrier of 26.42 kcal/mol and OH radical and [HV2Mo4O19]4− as products in this step. Drying is one of the best methods to preserve the quality of fresh fruits and prolong their shelf life. This study focuses on Prunus armeniaca L. cv. 'Diaogan' (commonly known as Diaogan apricot) sourced from Xinjiang, China to explore the impact of two natural drying methods (shade drying and open-air drying in the rocky desert) on the drying kinetics, color, textural characteristics, microstructure, chemical properties, and antioxidant capacity of Diaogan apricots. The experimental results indicate that throughout the natural drying process, the time required for open-air drying in the rocky desert was reduced by 26.47% compared to shade drying. The L*, a*, and b* values of the shade- and ventilation-dried Diaogan apricots were higher than those sun-dried in the rocky desert, exhibiting a lower color difference (ΔE) than apricots dried through rocky desert sun drying. Specifically, the ΔE for shade-dried Diaogan apricots was 19.66 ± 0.24. The Diaogan apricots dried in the rocky desert exhibited greater hardness, lower elasticity, stronger adhesiveness, and higher chewiness compared to those dried in the shade, with the hardness, adhesiveness, and chewiness being, respectively, 14.71%, 18.89%, and 35.79% higher. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations revealed that the high temperatures experienced during open-air drying in the rocky desert caused rapid dehydration of the Diaogan apricot's skin, leading to clogging and crust formation in the flesh pores, along with deformation or tearing of the tissue structure, ultimately resulting in poor rehydration ability. After drying, there was a significant increase in the soluble solids in the Diaogan apricots, whereas titratable acidity, total phenols, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant capacity were significantly decreased (p < 0.05). In summary, the quality of dried Diaogan apricots post-drying is dependent on the natural drying method employed, with shade drying resulting in superior quality of Diaogan apricots compared to open-air drying in the rocky desert. Organic dyes and heavy metals present in industrial wastewater pose a tremendous threat to human health and the aquatic ecosystem; therefore, it is vital to develop efficient and environmentally friendly materials for wastewater treatment. Hence, two bifunctional Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM)-based metal–organic complexes (POMOCs), namely H[CuI(Hbcbpy)4(PW12O40)2]·7H2O (BHU-3) and H[Co II2 (bcbpy)3(H2O)5(CoIIIW12O40)]·6H2O (BHU-4, bcbpy = 1-(4-carboxybenzyl)-4,4′-bipyridinium), in the presence of a viologen ligand were synthesized under hydrothermal conditions. BHU-3 exhibits a supramolecular structure with an interesting "windmill-like" [Cu(Hbcbpy)4]5+ unit and two [PW12O40]3− anions, whereas BHU-4 displays a one-dimensional (1-D) chain structure consisting of interesting "Y-like" metal–organic units [Co(bcbpy)3]2+ and [CoIIIW12O40]5− anions. BHU-3 and BHU-4 represent rare bifunctional materials for the selective adsorption of organic dyes and photocatalytic reduction of Cr(VI). Interestingly, BHU-4 shows better selective adsorption for methylene blue (MB) and malachite green (MG) than BHU-3, and different charges in the polyoxoanions and potentials of BHU-3 and BHU-4 are the main factors affecting their adsorption abilities. On the contrary, BHU-3 performed significantly better than BHU-4 in the photoreduction of Cr(VI), which can be attributed to the fact that BHU-3 possesses higher efficiency of photogenerated carrier separation and migration. Recurrent foodborne outbreaks associated with low-moisture foods prompted this study to evaluate apple-handling practices presented in apple-drying recipes available to United States consumers, and to explore the food safety implications of the recipes. Because little research is available on the safety of home fruit-drying, we conducted a systematic search of English-language apple-drying recipes from YouTube videos, blog articles, cookbooks, and university extension sources. Our evaluation found that most recipes excluded handwashing instructions, and potential cross-contamination practices were evident in 12% of the videos. Bruised or damaged apples were selected for drying in 16% of the videos, two blogs, and five cookbook recipes. Although more than half the blogs and videos demonstrated pre-treatment procedures, they did so predominantly to minimize browning with almost no mention of antimicrobial benefits. Drying temperature information was missing in 41% of the videos and 35% of the cookbooks that we evaluated. Even when temperatures were mentioned, most were insufficient for pathogen reduction according to the recommendations of previous studies. These videos, blogs, and cookbooks commonly advocated subjective indicators instead of unit measurements when slicing apples and checking for doneness. The invention of silica-based bioactive glass in the late 1960s has sparked significant interest in exploring a wide range of silicon-containing biomaterials from the macroscale to the nanoscale. Over the past few decades, these biomaterials have been extensively explored for their potential in diverse biomedical applications, considering their remarkable bioactivity, excellent biocompatibility, facile surface functionalization, controllable synthesis, etc. However, to expedite the clinical translation and the unexpected utilization of silicon-composed nanomedicine and biomaterials, it is highly desirable to achieve a thorough comprehension of their characteristics and biological effects from an overall perspective. In this review, we provide a comprehensive discussion on the state-of-the-art progress of silicon-composed biomaterials, including their classification, characteristics, fabrication methods, and versatile biomedical applications. Additionally, we highlight the multi-dimensional design of both pure and hybrid silicon-composed nanomedicine and biomaterials and their intrinsic biological effects and interactions with biological systems. Their extensive biomedical applications span from drug delivery and bioimaging to therapeutic interventions and regenerative medicine, showcasing the significance of their rational design and fabrication to meet specific requirements and optimize their theranostic performance. Additionally, we offer insights into the future prospects and potential challenges regarding silicon-composed nanomedicine and biomaterials. By shedding light on these exciting research advances, we aspire to foster further progress in the biomedical field and drive the development of innovative silicon-composed nanomedicine and biomaterials with transformative applications in biomedicine. Objective: This retrospective study aims to evaluate the therapeutic effect of varying dosages of adjuvant radioactive iodine (RAI) therapy on intermediate-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients. Methods: This retrospective study involved a total of 427 intermediate-risk PTC patients, out of which 202 received a 3.7GBq dosage of RAI, and 225 received a 5.55GBq dosage. The evaluation involved assessing the therapeutic outcomes, number of treatment cycles, and successful remnant ablation rates in both dose groups, six months post-adjuvant RAI therapy. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were employed to identify factors linked with excellent response (ER). Following this, prognostic nomograms were constructed to provide a visual representation of the prediction models. Calibration curves, the concordance index (C-index), and the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve were employed to evaluate the predictive performance of these nomograms. The Hosmer-Lemeshow test was applied to assess the models' goodness-of-fit. Additionally, the clinical utility of the prognostic nomograms was appraised through decision curve analysis (DCA). Results: The high-dose (HD) group exhibited significantly higher proportions of ER, single treatment cycles, and successful remnant ablation rates (p<0.05). Being male, receiving a 3.7GBq dose, having an N1b stage, an sTg level =10ng/ml, or an sTg/TSH ratio =0.11 were independent risk factors for Non-ER. Two prognostic nomograms, "sTg Nomogram" and "sTg/TSH Nomogram", were established. The ranking of factors contributing to ER, in descending order, included the sTg or sTg/TSH ratio, N stage, therapy dosage, sex, and soft tissue invasion. The "sTg/TSH Nomogram" demonstrated a higher C-index compared to the "sTg Nomogram". The calibration curves indicated excellent calibration for both nomograms. DCA demonstrated that the net benefit of the "sTg/TSH Nomogram" was higher than that of the "sTg Nomogram". Conclusion: Higher initial RAI therapy doses can improve therapeutic efficacy for intermediate-risk PTC patients. The current study evaluates the cytotoxicity, mode of cell death and chemical analysis of selected beauty products and evaluation of the protective effect of Tamarix articulata (TA) extract against toxicity induced by beauty products in skin fibroblasts (Hs27). MTT and Crystal violet (CV) assays were used to determine the dose-dependent cytotoxic effects of beauty products against Hs27 fibroblasts. DNA fragmentation assay and annexin-V staining were conducted to determine the mode of cell killing induced by evaluated beauty products. Quantification of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidant enzyme levels were used to evaluate the oxidative stress. Chemical analysis and heavy metals were evaluated to determine beauty products. Pre-treatment with TA extract for different time points followed by time-dependent exposure with beauty products to assess the protective effect of TA extract in Hs27 cells was analyzed by MTT and CV assays. Owing to the presence of various harmful heavy metals such as arsenic (As), chromium (Cr), cadmium (Cd), nickel (Ni), and lead (Pb) in beauty products, our results revealed that all beauty products induce significant cytotoxicity over time (1, 4 h) in a dose-dependent (125, 250, 500 μg/mL) manner. DNA fragmentation assay, quantification of apoptosis by annexin-V staining, determination of ROS and antioxidant enzymes (CAT, GSH-Px and SOD) revealed that the induced cytotoxicity was caused by oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis. However, pre-incubation with a safe dose (50 μg/mL) of TA for different times (24, 48 h) followed by exposure to various doses (62.5, 125, 250, 500 μg/mL) of beauty products for different times (1, 4 h) revealed significant (*p≤0.05, **p≤0.01) protection against beauty product-mediated cytotoxicity. The effect was more pronounced for 1 h exposure to beauty products compared to 4 h. Our study demonstrates that the due to the presence of heavy metals in synthetic beauty products exhibit marked toxicity to skin fibroblasts due to oxidative stress-mediated apoptosis. However, the presence of abundant bioactive polyphenols with promising antiscavenging activity in TA extracts significantly nullifies cytotoxicity promoted by examined beauty products in skin fibroblasts (Hs27). Acacia mangium requires the addition of a finishing material to increase its resistance to weathering. Herein, the effectiveness of a nanocoating containing titanium dioxide nanoparticles (TiO2-NPs) as a finishing material for mangium wood was investigated. The coating material formulations used were oil-based (V1) and water-based (V2) varnishes with TiO2-NP concentrations of 1% (CT1), 5% (CT5), and 10% (CT10) (w/v). The uncoated and coated samples were subjected to weathering periods of 0, 2, and 4 months. The results showed that the addition of TiO2 nanoparticles to the V1 and V2 varnishes resulted in more gradual colour changes after the weathering period. The surface of the mangium wood also became smoother after being coated. However, the surface roughness increased with the duration of the weathering period. The wettability (K-value) of the sample decreased after coating, indicating that the coated sample was more hydrophobic than the uncoated sample. The results of a photocatalyst test, which analysed the effectiveness of the coatings, showed that the best coating material formulas were V1-CT10 and V2-CT10, as they degraded 75.21% and 71.03% of methylene blue content, respectively. Fourier transform infrared analysis showed that mangium wood did not undergo rapid weathering after the nanocoating treatment, as indicated by an insignificant decrease in the peak absorption intensity of the main structural functional groups of wood. An active solar dehydrator is designed for dehydrating fruits and vegetables. The solar collector transfers thermal energy to the drying air. The temperature inside the drying chamber is maintained between 45 °C and 50 °C by a feedback control system. The design is based on the December solar irradiance of Islamabad, which is found to be 572 watts per square meter. The energy required to dry one kilogram of apple and banana is 245 watts and 220 watts, respectively. Background: There is a little knowledge on the extent to which healthcare providers understand and accept the professional recommendations and appropriate dosing strategy regarding metformin XR. Objectives: To evaluate UAE community pharmacists' knowledge, attitude, and practices (KAP) concerning metformin XR. Methods: This is a cross-sectional research study conducted amongst licensed community pharmacists. The survey took place via a questionnaire and physical interviews were held. The survey used in this study included questions on demographics and questions on the participants' attitudes, knowledge and practices concerning metformin XR. The factors influencing KAP regarding metformin XR were examined via simple logistic regression analysis. Results: Threehundred fifty-three (n = 353) participants were recruited in the study. Independent pharmacies constituted 57.5% of this study sample and 42.5% were chain pharmacies. The average knowledge score about metformin XR tablets was 42.5% with a confidence interval (CI) of 95% [37.3%, 47.4]. Better knowledge scores on metformin XR tablets was observed in respondents aged ⩾40 years (OR 2.97, 95% CI 1.63-5.4), having greater than 10 years in terms of experience (OR 2.28; 95% CI 1.25-4.16) and pharmacist graduated from Regional or international universities (OR 2.08; 95% CI 1.34-3.24). About 78% (n = 275) of the participants believed that metformin XR tablets have better efficacy and 63.2% (n = 233) indicated that metformin IR was associated with greater adverse effects. Conclusion: This study demonstrated a distinct gap in knowledge, attitude and practice pertaining to metformin XR among community pharmacists in the UAE. The community pharmacists need to enhance their practice by receiving accurate and reliable data to support their decision-making on the prescribing of metformin XR. This study investigates the impact of various pre-drying treatments and drying methods on the physicochemical, phytochemical, and sensorial quality of dried bananas. To achieve this goal, four pretreatment solutions were used before drying to enhance the quality characteristics of banana slices: citric acid 1% and ascorbic acid 1%, sucrose 10%, sodium bisulphate 0.5%, and lemon juice 5% and acetic acid 0.5%. Two drying methods were applied, sun drying (SD) and tunnel drying (TD). The dried slices were evaluated for moisture, total acidity, water activity (aw), browning index, rehydration ratio (RR), reducing sugar, ascorbic acid, total phenol, and DPPH %, as well as sensory attributes (color, odor, taste, texture, and overall acceptability). The results showed that the retention of acid content, ascorbic acid, total phenolics, and DPPH in slice samples dried in TD was higher than that in SD. The browning index values in the TD samples were lower than those in the SD samples. Moreover, the TD samples showed a higher RR than the SD samples. It is noted that the pretreatment solutions used have an important role in improving the final quality characteristics of dried banana slices. The results of the sensory evaluation revealed a significant difference in the degrees of color and texture for the slices pretreated with sodium bisulphate. Meanwhile, the rates of taste and odor were significantly higher for the sucrose-pretreated slices. On the 23rd of September 2022, a small intensive aquaculture unit populated with rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) reported increased mortality in adults and juvenile fish. The unit comprised 12 enclosed concrete basins with a capacity of ten cubic meters of water, populated with 150 kg of fish each. Fish were subjected to a clinical examination on the site, after which whole fish were harvested for a bacteriological and histopathological examination. Water quality parameters were examined using classic biochemical methods and Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy in order to find out whether the environment in which the fish live is also a predisposing factor that could facilitate different pathogens and induce a state of disease in the fish. Real-time PCR was performed on strains of Aeromonas spp. sampled from the fish to accurately identify the pathogen species. The energy gap of molecular semiconductors is a critical parameter in molecule-based devices because it fundamentally determines the operating principle and device performance, such as the charge transfer driving force. Hence, an accurate quantification of the energy gap of a molecular semiconductor is essential. The hot electron technique, which is implemented using a hot electron transistor and ballistic electron emission microscope, has been verified as the most powerful characterization in recent years. By monitoring the charge transport on the metal/molecule interface, an electron-injection barrier (or LUMO) and hole-injection barrier (or HOMO) can be achieved, which contributes to the electronic energy gap determination. In this review, a comprehensive comparison of these two techniques was made. It helps us to select a suitable method in specific situations and provides a profound comprehension of the charge transport process in molecular semiconductor and molecule-based devices. Background: Improvements in quality of life (QoL) after parathyroidectomy in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is discussed. It has not been analyzed whether these improvements can be influenced by a specific socio-personal or clinical patient profile. Objectives: to analyze QoL differences after parathyroidectomy and to determine a socio-personal and clinical profile that influences improvement after parathyroidectomy. Methods: A longitudinal prospective cohort study in patients with PHPT. SF-36 and PHPQOL questionnaires were completed by the patients. A comparative preoperatory analysis was carried out, at three and twelve months after surgery. Student's t test was used for the correlations. The size of the effect was assessed using G*Power software. A multivariate analysis was performed to evaluate the socio-personal and clinical variables affecting the improvement in QoL after surgery. Results: Forty-eight patients were analyzed. Three months after surgery an improvement was found in physical function, general health, vitality, social function, emotional role, mental health and in the patient's declared health assessment. One year after the intervention a general improvement was observed, with a greater effect on mental health and declared health evolution. Patients with bone pain presented with a higher probability of improvement after surgery. Patients with prior psychological disease had a lower associated probability of an improvement and high levels of PTH related to a greater probability of improvement after surgery. Conclusions: There is an improvement in the QoL of PHPT patients after parathyroidectomy. Background. The prevalence of cancer is growing daily. Oral cancer, which is primarily triggered by tobacco use, can have detrimental effects on facial appearance. Despite significant advances in the molecular underpinnings of cancer, surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy have become standard cancer treatment methods. These treatments remove the tumor but can significantly alter patient's appearance, which can impact their physical and mental wellbeing. The soft tissue augmentation technique of autologous fat grafting (AFG), commonly referred to as lipofilling, is frequently used in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery to promote facial rejuvenation and body form remodeling. The advantages of AFG include its biocompatibility, low immunogenicity and allergenicity, as well as its capability to heal wounds. Objectives. To explore the advantages of and patient satisfaction with the AFG technique as a potential facial restoration procedure in oral cancer patients. Materials and methods. We examined the effects of facial AFG in cosmetic surgery patients and investigated the prevalence of postoperative problems. Patient satisfaction and potential complications after autologous fat filling in different areas of the facial space were investigated using clinical evaluations, patientreported outcomes and photographic assessments. Results. All of the patients were satisfied with the results in terms of improved facial shape, skin glossiness, skin elasticity, ptosis, and facial expressions. More than 80% of the patients and surgeons reported overall satisfaction. Conclusions. Based on these findings, we hypothesize that the AFG approach may be beneficial as a reconstructive therapy for patients with oral cancer following treatment. Tumors of the parathyroid glands, when associated with PTH (parathyroid hormone) excess, display a large area of complications; in addition to the classical clinical picture of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHP), a complex panel of other symptoms/signs can be identified, including memory and cognitive impairment, chronic asthenia/fatigue, reduced muscle functionality, depressive mood, non-specific bone pain, and loss of sleep quality. The perception of quality of life (QoL) can be supplementarily enhanced by their progressive onset, which makes many patients not be fully aware of them. Their improvement was reported very early after parathyroidectomy (PTx), yet the level of statistical evidence does not qualify these non-classical elements as standalone indications for PTx. Our objective is introducing an up-to-date on QoL scores with regards to the patients diagnosed with PHP, particularly taking into consideration PHP management from baseline to post-operatory outcome, including in cases with multiple endocrine neoplasia. This is a narrative review of literature. We revised full-length papers published in English through PubMed research conducted between January 2018 and May 2023 by using the key words "quality of life" and "primary hyperparathyroidism". We particularly looked at data on self-reported QoL (through questionnaires). We excluded from the search the studies focused on non-PTH related hypercalcemia, secondary, and/or renal/tertiary hyperparathyroidism, and vitamin D supplementation. Overall, we identified 76 papers and selected for the final analysis 16 original studies on QoL and PHP (a total of 1327 subjects diagnosed with syndromic and non-syndromic PHP). The studies with the largest number of individuals were of 92, 104, 110, 134, 159, as well as 191. A few cohorts (n = 5) were of small size (between 20 and 40 patients in each of them). Concerning the study design, except for 2 papers, all the mentioned studies provided longitudinal information, particularly the timeframe from baseline (before PTx) and after surgery. The post-operatory follow-up was of 3–6 months, but mostly between 1 and 3 years (maximum a decade of surveillance). The age of the patients varies between medians of 56, 62, 64, and 68 years. Most frequent questionnaires were SF-36, PHPQoL, and PAS. Despite not being unanimously similar, an overall reduced score of QoL in patients with PHP versus controls was registered, as well as general improvement following PTx. Variations of QoL results might have a multifactorial background from different comorbidities, studied populations, technical aspects of collecting the data, etc. QoL scores in PHP represents a complex heterogeneous picture, from their correlation with clinical features and lab assays (e.g., the level of serum calcium), the associated comorbidities (such as multiple endocrine neoplasia syndromes), up to the assessment of the QoL improvement after parathyroidectomy (PTx). While current studies do not unanimously agree on each QoL domain, the assessment of QoL might represent a supplementary argument to consider when deciding for PTx, especially in asymptomatic cases and in patients who do not fit into well-known categories of surgery candidates, according to current guidelines, thus assessing QoL in PHP is part of a current research gap. QoL evaluation in PHP remains an open issue, towards which awareness should be cultivated by both endocrinologists and surgeons. Yakan House is one of the historical houses in Cairo, dating back to the beginning of the nineteenth century. The house was neglected until its elements deteriorated until it was owned by a person interested in heritage who pledged to preserve it to become a cultural center to revive traditional crafts after architectural restoration. During the architectural restoration, blurred and unclear wall paintings dating back to the era of construction were discovered, and they were covered with a thick layer of mortar. Therefore, the research aims to study the discovered wall paintings and remove the plaster layer that covers them by modern mechanical, chemical and scientific detection methods. It was photographed using infrared (FTIR) and ultraviolet rays, and was examined using light microscopy and examination and analysis electron microscopy (SEM-EDAX).It has been identified that the preparation layer consists of calcite (CaCO3), quartz (SiO2) and gypsum (CaSO4.2H2O), and that the dark blue color is composed of lapis lazuli, and that the purple color is a result of mixing blue and red together, and that the brown color is a mixture of red with the black. As for the dark yellow color, it consists of iron oxide (goethite). And through the analysis (FTIR) it was found that the adhesive used to bind the coloring material is gum arabic. Then the mural was treated, and this included removing the thick mortar layer with mechanical and chemical cleaning, replacing the damaged layers of preparation, and strengthening and fixing the discovered drawings. Background The increasing popularity of fat transfer (FT) to the lower eyelids has led to an increase in unwanted lumps, bumps, and contour irregularities (LBCs). Few studies have addressed the management of LBCs. Objectives The aim of this study was to address the management of LBCs. Methods In this retrospective review, charts of all patients presenting for evaluation of LBCs following FT procedures to the lower eyelid were reviewed. Clinical characteristics on presentation and surgical findings were evaluated. Patient postoperative clinical course and complications were also documented. Results Forty-eight patients were included (45 women and 3 men), with an average follow-up of 14 months (range, 5-24 months). In 65%, LBCs manifested above the lower orbital rim (AR) and in 35% they were noted AR and below the rim (AR/BR). The type of contour deficits noted were a solitary nodule (SN) in 54%, a mixed picture (MP) in 23%, diffuse enlargement (DE) in 17%, and multiple nodules (MNs) in 6%. Combining lesion location and type of contour deficit, the most common presentation was an SN-AR in 22 patients (46%), followed by an MP-AR/BR in 8 patients (17%), and a DE-AR/BR in 5 patients (10%). Surgical findings revealed that grafted fat is consistently found separate from native eyelid/orbital fat, and within the orbicularis muscle when AR, and within the orbicularis muscle or the deep suborbicularis oculi fat when BR. Conclusions LBCs tend to manifest in characteristic patterns with a predilection for an AR location. Recommendations on the diagnosis and management of these lesions are provided. The self‐assembly of porous molecular nanocapsules offer unique opportunities to investigate a range of interesting phenomena and applications. However, to design nanocapsules with pre‐defined properties, thorough understanding of their structure‐property relation is required. Here, we report the self‐assembly of two elusive members of the Keplerate family, [Mo132Se60O312(H2O)72(AcO)30]42− {Mo132Se60} 1 and [W72Mo60Se60O312(H2O)72(AcO)30]42− {W72Mo60Se60} 2, that have been synthesised using pentagonal and dimeric ([Mo2O2Se2]2+) building blocks and their structures have been confirmed via single crystal X‐ray diffractions. Our comparative study involving the uptake of organic ions and the related ligand exchange of various ligand sizes by the {Mo132Se60} and previously reported Keplerates {Mo132O60}, {Mo132S60} based on the ligand exchange rates, revealed the emergence of increased "breathability" that dominates over the pore size as we transition from the {Mo132S60} to the "softer" {Mo132Se60} molecular nano‐container. This study aimed to assess monthly average daily global solar irradiation ( H g m) estimates in Southeastern Brazil from empirical models and artificial intelligence (AI) techniques using extreme air temperatures (maximum—Tx and minimum—Tn) and extraterrestrial solar irradiation ( H 0 m ) and evaluate the geographic and climate factors in the performance of the models or the AI techniques. The H g m , Tx and Tn data series from 95 automatic weather stations of the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (INMET) were used. The Hargreaves-Samani (HS) and Bristow-Campbell (BC) models were fitted, and AI techniques (artificial neural network—ANN and support vector machines—SVM) were trained, and assessed according to local climate conditions. Three input schemes in the AI techniques were assessed: (i) H 0 m , Tx, and Tn; (ii) H 0 m and air temperature amplitude (ΔT); and (iii) H 0 m , Tx, Tn, and ΔT. The coefficients of the HS (0.134 ≤ kr ≤ 0.262) and BC (0.539 ≤ β0 ≤ 0.796; 0.004 ≤ β1 ≤ 0.843; 0.35 ≤ β2 ≤ 2.60) models and their performance were influenced by climate, continentality/maritime effects, altitude and weather systems. The performance of the HS model was inferior to that of BC model and the SVM and ANN techniques. Overall, the SVN and ANN techniques performed better than the BC method. However, BC had similar or superior precision and accuracy to SVM and ANN for some climatic conditions and combinations of input variables. It is known that the natural convection (NC) solar drying process is a simple and cheap method for drying foodstuffs, but it is not preferable for common users in the case of drying high-moisture content agro-products due to the slow rate of drying. Meanwhile, the forced convection (FC) drying process is most appropriate for such products, but its economic feasibility may be affected due to high initial and maintenance costs. Therefore, the present study proposed a controlled natural convection (CNC) drying mode using a solar greenhouse dryer (SGD) for drying grapes with two types of cover materials, glass and Plexiglas, through intermittent operation with a PV system to save energy as a simple and inexpensive domestic dryer instead of the common forced convection SGD and the conventional natural convection SGD. The obtained results of the new CNC drying mode using a Plexiglas SGD showed a higher drying rate than the NC drying mode and are close to the FC drying mode using the same cover material. The initial moisture content of the grapes was reduced from 5.91 g water/g dry matter to the final moisture content of 0.15 g water/g dry matter within 12 h and 15 h for the CNC and NC drying modes, respectively, using the Plexiglas SGD. Moreover, the thermal drying efficiency for the two mentioned drying modes was 12.5 and 9.7%, respectively. The Page model was found to be the most appropriate model to predict the kinetics of the SGD in all drying modes, regardless of the cover type. The new CNC drying mode using the Plexiglas SGD achieved the lowest cost per kg of dried grapes (1.26 USD/kg), the highest total saved costs over the lifespan of the dryer (USD 245.46) and the shortest payback period (1.08 years) compared to the other two dryers, NC-SGD and FC-SGD. Generally, the CNC-SGD had good performance over the NC-SGD because it is not affected by the fluctuation in the volume, velocity and direction of the inlet ambient air/wind during drying grapes as a high-moisture content product without external heating sources or complicated parts. Long-time electric field action on perovskite piezoelectric ceramic leads to chemical degradation. A new way to accelerate the degradation is the exposure of the ceramic to DC electric fields under a vacuum. A high-quality commercial piezoelectric material based on PbZr1−xTixO3 is used to study such impacts. To avoid the influence of ferroelectric properties and possible removal of oxygen and lead oxides during the degradation process, the experiments are in the temperature interval of 500 °C > T > TC. Changes in resistance during the electrodegradation process is an electrically-induced deoxidation, transforming the ceramic into a metallic-like material. This occurs with an extremely low concentration of effused oxygen of 1016 oxygen atoms per 1 cm3. Due to this concentration not obeying the Mott criterion for an isolator-metal transition, it is stated that the removal of oxygen mostly occurs along the grain boundaries. It agrees with the first-principle calculations regarding dislocations with oxygen vacancies. The decrease in resistivity during electrodegradation follows a power law and is associated with a decrease in the dislocation dimension. The observed reoxidation process is a lifeline for the reconstructing (self-healing) properties of electro-degraded ceramics in harsh cosmic conditions. Background: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is a common endocrine disorder caused by a parathyroid tumor or hyperplasia, which is often accompanied with quality of life (QoL) impairment. A parathyroidectomy (PTX) is the preferred standard treatment for PHPT patients. In this single center study we aimed to evaluate the impact of PHPT on patient's QoL and identify QoL changes at early and long-term follow-up after surgery. Methods: All the patients underwent routine PTX with the removal of the suspected hyperparathyroid gland(s). Patients filled out generic QoL questionnaire RAND SF-36, specific questionnaire PHPQoL and specific symptom assessment questionnaire PAS upon admission to the hospital before surgery, at 3 months, 12 months and 24 months after surgery. Results: A total of 92 patients with PHPT (median age was 56 years, 95.7% females) were included in the study. Before PTX patient's QoL by SF-36 scores was significantly lower as compared to healthy controls (p < 0.01). Almost 40% of patients had poor or very poor QoL. The most frequent symptoms by PAS before surgery were as follows: tiredness (97.8% of patients), weakness (94.6%), forgetfulness (94.6%), mood changes (90%), feeling "blue"/depression (88%), joint pains (83.3%), headaches (80.2%), constant irritability (77.2%), bone pains (75%), thirst (70.7%) and trouble getting out of a chair (67.4%). The half of the patients had moderate-to-severe (≥ 40 scores) tiredness, weakness, joint pains, forgetfulness, as well as mood changes. Post-operative QoL changes were analysed in the group of 72 patients. After surgery there was significant improvement in QoL by all scales of SF-36 questionnaire, excluding bodily pain, and the PHPQoL total score (GEE, p < 0.01) as compared with their values before surgery. Also severity of tiredness, mood changes, weakness and forgetfulness significantly decreased after surgery as compared to their baseline values (GEE, p < 0.05). Decreased mental component of QoL by PHPQoL (OR = 0.927, 95%CI = 0.874–0.984, p = 0.013) predicted improved QoL after surgery. Conclusions: Patients with PHPT demonstrated significantly impaired QoL in physical, psychological and social functioning as well experienced a wide profile of common PHPT symptoms. Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is classically characterized by hypercalcemia with elevated or inappropriately normal parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels. Elevated PTH levels in the presence of normal calcium levels are not infrequently found during the evaluation of metabolic bone disorders or kidney stone disease. This can be caused by secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) or normocalcemic primary hyperparathyroidism (NPHPT). NPHPT is due to autonomous parathyroid function whereas SHPT is caused by a physiologic stimulation to PTH secretion. Many medical conditions and medications can contribute to SHPT, and differentiation between SHPT and NPHPT may be difficult. Cases are presented to illustrate examples. In this paper, we review the distinction between SHPT and NPHPT as well as end organ effects of NPHPT and outcomes of surgery in NPHPT. We suggest that the diagnosis of NPHPT be made only after careful exclusion of causes of SHPT and consideration of medications that can increase PTH secretion. Purpose: Papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with other organ invasions is directly related to patient prognosis and quality of life; however, studies on the clinical outcomes of adjuvant radioactive iodine (RAI) for PTC with other organ invasions are limited. This study aimed to clarify the clinical outcomes and prognostic factors for patients with PTC with other organ invasions after adjuvant RAI. Methods: Patients with PTC with other organ invasions without distant metastases who underwent surgery and adjuvant RAI were retrospectively reviewed. We evaluated the initial responses based on the American Thyroid Association guidelines and survival rates. Prognostic factors for locoregional recurrence-free survival (LRRFS) were analyzed. Results: Between January 2005 and December 2019, 102 patients were included in the study. Their median age was 55 years. The median follow-up duration was 92 months (range; 30–231 months). The excellent response rate after RAI was 42%. The 7-year overall survival, LRRFS, and recurrence-free survival rates were 100%, 75%, and 75%, respectively. Metastatic lymph node size, resection margin status, and post-RAI suppressed thyroglobulin level were the independent prognostic factors for LRRFS. Conclusion: We demonstrated that 75% of patients with PTC with other organ invasions could achieve long-term survival without recurrence after adjuvant RAI. Future development of effective treatment strategies for large metastatic lymph nodes, gross residual tumors, and high serum thyroglobulin levels is warranted. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

With the development of nanotechnology, fluorescent silicon nanomaterials have been synthesized and applied in various areas. Among them, silicon quantum dots (SiQDs) are a new class of zero-dimensional nanomaterials with outstanding optical properties, benign biocompatibility, and ultra-small size. In recent years, SiQDs have been gradually utilized for constructing high-performance fluorescent sensors for chemical or biological analytes. Herein, we focus on reviewing recent advances in SiQD-based fluorescent biosensors from a broad perspective and discussing possible future trends. First, the representative progress for synthesizing water-soluble SiQDs in the past decade is systematically summarized. Then, the latest achievement of the design and fabrication of SiQD-based fluorescent biosensors is introduced, with a particular focus on analyte-induced photoluminescence (fluorescence) changes, hybrids of SiQDs with other materials or molecules, and biological ligand-modification methods. Background: Advances in surgical techniques have significantly improved the safety of thyroidectomy. Quality of life issues, such as voice changes, however continue to be important considerations. This study evaluated the prevalence and determinants of voice changes following thyroidectomies for non-malignant goiters in a Nigerian Hospital. Methodology: Consecutive adults who had thyroidectomy for non-malignant goiters were evaluated. Preoperatively, each participant had laryngoscopy and voice assessment using the Voice Handicap Index-10. At surgery, the intubation difficulty score, size of endotracheal tubes, and duration of operation were recorded. Laryngoscopy and VHI-10 assessments were repeated 1 week, 1 month, and 3 months after surgery. Pre and postoperative assessments were compared. Result: Fifty-four patients completed the study. Subtotal thyroidectomy was the commonest operation performed in 17 patients (31.48%), with 14 (25.93%) having total thyroidectomy. Baseline median VHI-10 score was 6.5(IQR-10). Five patients had abnormal preoperative laryngoscopy findings (benign vocal cord lesions). Postoperatively, seven patients had endoscopic evidence of vocal cord paralysis, six were unilateral while one was bilateral. Ten patients (18.5%) had early voice changes. Median VHI-10 score at one week was significantly higher than baseline (10 vs. 6.5, p = 0.01). At 3 months, VHI-10 reverted back to baseline in five of the ten patients while five patients (9.3%) had persistent voice changes. Abnormal endoscopic findings predicted the occurrence of early postoperative voice changes. Conclusion: Thyroidectomy for non-malignant goiters is associated with transient voice changes, many of which revert to normal over time. Abnormal endoscopic findings predict its occurrence. The accurate detection of hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue (HFPT) is pivotal in the preoperative assessment of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). PET/CT using [18F]fluorocholine ([18F]FCH) showed superior diagnostic performance compared to conventional functional imaging modalities. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of [18F]FCH PET/CT as a first-line functional imaging approach in patients with clinically diagnosed PHPT. The imaging and clinical data of 321 PHPT patients, including 271 overt PHPT and 50 mild PHPT, who underwent [18F]FCH PET/CT as first-line imaging were analysed in this retrospective study. Histopathology was the reference standard. In case of no available histopathology evaluation (conservative management), imaging and clinical follow-ups were considered reference standards. In the overt group (n = 271), [18F]FCH PET/CT showed sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), and accuracy of 0.99, 0.91, 1.00, 0.80, and 0.99, respectively. Regarding the correlation of the index lesions and initial laboratory data, all [18F]FCH PET/CT parameters (SUVs, SULs, and mSAD) were significantly correlated with the serum iPTH level. Additionally, SUVmax, SULpeak, and mSAD were significantly associated with the serum calcium level. In the mild group (n = 50), [18F]FCH PET/CT showed a sensitivity, specificity, PPV, NPV, and accuracy of 0.93, 0.75, 0.95, 0.67, and 0.90. In conclusion, [18F]FCH PET/CT revealed high diagnostic performance in the detection of HFPTs and the potential to be considered as a first-line imaging modality in the assessment of PHPT, including both overt and mild types. Introduction: Fat grafting is an efficient and safe procedure for the correction of upper eyelid sulcus deepening. Stromal vascular fraction (SVF) gel has been proven to be an ideal fat derivative and can be widely used for facial augmentation. We aimed to determine the efficacy of SVF gel for the correction of a mild-to-moderate sunken superior sulcus among Asian patients. Methods: Patients with a mild-to-moderate sunken superior sulcus underwent SVF gel grafting of the sunken upper periorbital area. The primary result was the quantitative volume difference in the superior sulcus region before and after grafting. This was evaluated through three-dimensional VECTRA® imaging. The secondary results included the aesthetic quantitative evaluation results (upper lid area and pretarsal space ratio), global aesthetic improvement scale (GAIS) score, and complications. Results: Thirty-one patients with mild-to-moderate sunken upper eyelids were included in this study. The average unilateral injected amount was 1.235 mL (± 0.171 mL). The 1-year delta volume was 0.801 ± 0.086 mL, and the effective survival volume was 65.3% (± 6.1%). The median preoperative pretarsal space and upper lid area ratio was 1.010 (± 0.150). The median postoperative pretarsal space and upper lid area ratio at 1 year was 0.159 (± 0.031) (n = 62; P < 0.0001), indicating a significantly reduced sunken appearance. The average GAIS score was 2.174 (± 0.391). All patients were satisfied with their surgical outcomes. The reoperation rate was 12.9%. Conclusions: SVF gel is safe and effective for the treatment of a mild-to-moderate sunken superior sulcus and is associated with satisfactory clinical outcomes and short recovery times. Metal-containing clusters have attracted increasing attention over the past 2–3 decades. This intense interest can be attributed to the fact that these discrete metal aggregates, whose atomically precise structures are resolved by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SCXRD), often possess intriguing geometrical features (high symmetry, aesthetically pleasing shapes and architectures) and fascinating physical properties, providing invaluable opportunities for the intersection of different disciplines including chemistry, physics, mathematical geometry and materials science. In this review, we attempt to reinterpret and connect these fascinating clusters from the perspective of Platonic and Archimedean solid characteristics, focusing on highly symmetrical and complex metal-containing (metal = Al, Ti, V, Mo, W, U, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag, Au, lanthanoids (Ln), and actinoids) high-nuclearity clusters, including metal-oxo/hydroxide/chalcogenide clusters and metal clusters (with metal–metal binding) protected by surface organic ligands, such as thiolate, phosphine, alkynyl, carbonyl and nitrogen/oxygen donor ligands. Furthermore, we present the symmetrical beauty of metal cluster structures and the geometrical similarity of different types of clusters and provide a large number of examples to show how to accurately describe the metal clusters from the perspective of highly symmetrical polyhedra. Polyoxopalladates (POPs) are a class of self‐assembling palladium‐oxide clusters that span a variety of sizes, shapes and compositions. The largest of this family, {Pd84}Ac, is constructed from 14 building units of {Pd6} and lined on the inner and outer torus by 28 acetate ligands. Due to its high water solubility, large hydrophobic cavity and distinct 1H NMR fingerprint {Pd84}Ac is an ideal molecule for exploring supramolecular behaviour with small organic molecules in aqueous media. Molecular visualisation studies highlighted potential binding sites between {Pd84}Ac and these species. Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) techniques, including 1H NMR, 1H Diffusion Ordered Spectroscopy (DOSY) and Nuclear Overhauser Spectroscopy (NOESY), were employed to study the supramolecular chemistry of this system. Sarcomas are a diverse group of tumors with numerous oncogenic drivers, and display varied clinical behaviors and prognoses. This complexity makes diagnosis and the development of new and effective treatments challenging. An incomplete understanding of both cell of origin and the biological drivers of sarcomas complicates efforts to develop clinically relevant model systems and find new molecular targets. Notably, the histone lysine specific demethylase 1 (LSD1) is overexpressed in a number of different sarcomas and is a potential therapeutic target in these malignancies. With the ability to modify histone marks, LSD1 is a key player in many protein complexes that epigenetically regulate gene expression. It is a largely context dependent enzyme, having vastly different and often opposing roles depending on the cellular environment and which interaction partners are involved. LSD1 has been implicated in the development of many different types of cancer, but its role in bone and soft tissue sarcomas remains poorly understood. In this review, we compiled what is known about the LSD1 function in various sarcomas, to determine where knowledge is lacking and to find what theme emerge to characterize how LSD1 is a key molecular driver in bone and soft tissue sarcoma. Primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT) is the most common cause of hypercalcemia and currently the only definitive treatment is surgery. Although the success rate of parathyroidectomy is over 95% in experienced centers, surgical failure is the most common complication today. Persistent HPT (perHPT) is defined as persistence of hypercalcemia after parathyroidectomy or recurrence of hypercalcemia within the first 6 months, and recurrence of hypercalcemia after a normocalcemic period of more than 6 months is defined as recurrent HPT (recHPT). In the literature, perHPT is reported to be 2--22%, and the rate of recHPT is 1--15%. perHPT is often associated with misdiagnosed pathology or inadequate resection of hyperfunctioning parathyroid tissue, recHPT is associated with newly developing pathology from potentially pathologically natural tissue left in situ at the initial surgery. In the preoperative evaluation, the initial diagnosis of pHPT and the diagnosis of perHPT or rec HPT should be confirmed in patients who are evaluated with a pre-diagnosis (suspect) of perHPT and recHPT. Surgery is recommended if it meets any of the recommendations in surgical guidelines, as in patients with pHPT, and there are no surgical contraindications. The first preoperative localization studies, surgical notes, operation drawings, if any, intraoperative PTH results, pathological results, and post-operative biochemical results of these patients should be examined. Localization studies with preoperative imaging methods should be performed in all patients with perHPT and recHPT with a confirmed diagnosis and surgical indication. The first-stage imaging methods are ultrasonography and Tc99m sestamibi single photon tomography Tc99mMIBI SPECT or hybrid imaging method, which is combined with both single-photon emission computed tomography and computed tomography (SPECT/CT). The combination of USG and sestamibi scintigraphy increases the localization of the pathological gland. In the secondary stage, Four-Dimensional computer tomography (4D-CT) or dynamic 4-dimensional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (4D-MRI) can be applied. It is focused on as a secondary stage imaging method, especially when the lesion cannot be detected by conventional methods. Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and PET/CT examinations with 11C-choline or 18F-fluorocholine are promising imaging modalities. Invasive examinations can rarely be performed in patients in whom suspicious, incompatible or pathological lesion cannot be detected in noninvasive imaging methods. Bilateral jugular vein sampling, selective venous sampling, parathyroid arteriography, imaging-guided fineneedle aspiration biopsy, and parathormone washout are invasive methods. Here we report the formation of giant {Mo126W30} polyoxometalate cages templated by π‐conjugated planar ligands. Their inorganic shells incorporate arrays of 18 stacked aromatic carboxylates, such as 1,3,5‐benzenetricarboxylate or 5‐nitroisophthalate, and the assembly is stabilized by multiple π–π interactions. NMR data confirmed that the cages are stable in solution and the inner aromatic templates can be postsynthetically replaced by selected aliphatic dicarboxylates, paving the way for endo‐functionalization and exploration of the reactivities within the cage cavities. A new POM-based hybrid, [δ-H4PMoVMoVI11O40](L)5·5H2O (L = 4-methylpyridine-4-yl-1,8-naphthalene dicarboxylamide), was synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and characterized by IR spectroscopy, powder X-ray diffraction, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This hybrid can acts as multifunctional fluorescent sensor to detect metal cation (Fe3+), anions (Cr2O72– and CrO42–), and antibiotics (NFT = nitrofurantoin, NIT = nitrofurazone, OXY = oxytetracycline) in aqueous environment. The detection limits of the POM-based hybrid were 8.9×10–5, 2.1×10–4, 2.2×10–4, 1.4×10–4, 6.9×10–4, and 6.1×10–4 mol/L for Fe3+, Cr2O72–, CrO42–, NIT, NFT, and OXY, respectively. Background: B-cell lymphoma 2 is involved in various cancers including breast carcinoma. Its expression in breast cancer has been associated with good prognostic factors such as hormone receptor expression, low Ki-67, low grade, and earlier stage. It is also considered to be an independent prognostic factor for luminal and triple-negative tumors. Objective: We aimed to determine the expression of B-cell lymphoma 2 (BCL2) in different molecular subtypes of invasive ductal carcinoma of breast and its association with prognostic indicators. Materials and Methods: Fifty samples of invasive carcinoma of breast, no special type (NST), were categorized into molecular subtypes according to immunohistochemical expression of estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR), human epidermal growth factor 2 (HER2), and Ki-67 and then evaluated for BCL2 expression. The expression of BCL2 was correlated with ER, PR, HER2, and Ki-67 and compared between luminal and nonluminal subtypes. Results: The BCL2 expression was seen in 68% of the cases with a significant association with ER, PR, and luminal subtypes. No significant association of BCL2 expression was seen with grade, HER2 and Ki-67 status of the tumor, or age group of the patients. BCL2 expression is significantly associated with ER, PR, and luminal subtypes in breast cancer. Conclusion: BCL2 is a marker of good prognosis in invasive carcinoma of breast, NST. Since the last international guidelines were published in 2014 on the evaluation and management of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT), new information has become available with regard to evaluation, diagnosis, epidemiology, genetics, classical and nonclassical manifestations, surgical and nonsurgical approaches, and natural history. To provide the most current summary of these developments, an international group, consisting of over 50 experts in these various aspects of PHPT, was convened. This paper provides the results of the task force that was assigned to review the information on the management of PHPT. For this task force on the management of PHPT, two questions were the subject of systematic reviews using the Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluations (GRADE) methodology. The full report addressing surgical and nonsurgical management of PHPT, utilizing the GRADE methodology, is published separately in this series. In this report, we summarize the results of that methodological review and expand them to encompass a much larger body of new knowledge that did not specifically fit the criteria of the GRADE methodology. Together, both the systematic and narrative reviews of the literature, summarized in this paper, give the most complete information available to date. A panel of experts then considered the last set of international guidelines in light of the newer data and assessed the need for their revision. This report provides the evidentiary background to the guidelines report. In that report, evidence from all task forces is synthesized into a summary statement and revised guidelines for the evaluation and management of PHPT. © 2022 The Authors.
