Background: Nurses take on important roles in disasters. In this regard, the disaster response self-efficacy of nursing students must be evaluated. The study aimed to determine the self-efficacy of nursing students in disaster response. Methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, the study sample consisted of 207 nursing students who were in their third or fourth year attending the nursing department of a state university in the Marmara region of Türkiye between October and December 2023. Data were collected using a student description form and the disaster response self-efficacy scale. Results: The mean age of the study participants was 22.05 ± 2.23 years, 73.4% were female, 50.2% were in their third year of study, 90.3% felt a need for education on disaster nursing, and 76.8% stated that they did not have sufficient knowledge and skills relating to disasters. The students’ mean total score on the disaster response self-efficacy scale was 3.23 ± 0.68. In addition, the disaster response self-efficacy levels of students who stated they had sufficient knowledge and skills concerning disaster response were significantly higher than those of other students (p < 0.05). In the present cross-sectional study, we determined the self-efficacy of nurses to apply psychological first aid (PFA) during disasters. The study sample consisted of 580 nurses working in Turkey. The data were collected online between July and November 2022 using the "Personal Information Form" and the "PFA Application Self-Efficacy Scale." The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical methods (number, percentage, mean, and standard deviation), generalized linear models, Bon-ferroni correction, and linear regression analysis. The mean PFA scale scores of male nurses, nurses working in intensive care units, working as service nurses, nurses who have previously received PFA training and applied PFA in disaster situations were higher. Moreover, 91.3% of nurses did not receive PFA training and 90.3% did not receive PFA service earlier, 31.0% did not apply for PFA, 18.3% did not know about PFA. The mean score of the PFA practice self-efficacy scale of nurses was 131.61 ± 19.41. There exists an urgent requirement to develop nurses' PFA application self-efficacy. It is recommended that nurses should be provided repeated PFA training and applied studies focusing on PFA interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims and objectives: The study aimed to determine the impact of clinical nurses' experiences during the COVID‐19 pandemic on their learning agility and readiness for other future pandemics. Background: It is important that nurses have high learning agility so they can successfully adapt their experience to COVID‐19 and other pandemics that may occur in the future. This will positively affect the readiness of nurses to fight against possible future pandemics. Design: The study is cross‐sectional, descriptive, correlational research. Methods: The study was carried outby data collection from 383 nurses. Data were collected via online survey using social media. The study methods were followed by the STORBE guidelines. Results: The average score of nurses on the Marmara Learning Agility Scale was 4.07 ±.030. The level of readiness of nurses for new pandemics was 96.1%. Positive but weak correlations were found between the effect of nurses' experiences in the COVID‐19 pandemic with their readiness for potential future pandemics and their learning agility. Conclusions: It was observed that nurses have high learning agility, gained experience during the COVID‐19 pandemic and these experiences affected their readiness for other potential future pandemics. Relevance to clinical practice: Health institutions to develop learning agility to support career management, manager selection and performance improvement for clinical nurses. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine nurses' disaster core competency levels, compare them based on characteristics and examine the relationships with psychological resilience. Background: Since nurses constitute a critical part in the health care services, it is important to understand the competencies and effective factors in their disaster preparedness. Methods: The data were collected from 489 nurses between January and February 2021 with an introductory information form, the Nurses' Perceptions of Disaster Core Competencies Scale and the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale. Results: The nurses' level of disaster core competencies was above the average, and it was positively correlated with their psychological resilience. The nurses' disaster experiences made higher differences on their disaster core competencies when compared to their personal and professional characteristics. Conclusions: It is important to provide disaster training and drills to all nurses on a regular basis. However, under disaster conditions, resilience should also be considered and included in the preparation plans for nurses to support their professional competencies and qualifications. Implications for nursing management: Nurse managers should play a leadership role in planning disaster preparedness training for nurses, and these trainings should be addressed to cover both professional competencies and resilience for nurses to respond effectively to disasters.
