Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the experiences of new nurses during their first year of hospital employment to gather data for the development of an evidence-based new nurse residency program focused on adaptability. Methods: This study was conducted at a tertiary hospital in Korea between March and August 2021 with 80 new nurses who wrote in critical reflective journals during their first year of work. NetMiner 4.5.0 was used to conduct a text network analysis of the critical reflective journals to uncover core keywords and topics across three periods. Results: In the journals, over time, degree centrality emerged as "study" and "patient understanding" for 1 to 3 months, "insufficient" and "stress" for 4 to 6 months, and "handover" and "preparation" for 7 to 12 months. Major sub-themes at 1 to 3 months were: "rounds," "intravenous-cannulation," "medical device," and "patient understanding"; at 4 to 6 months they were "admission," "discharge," "oxygen therapy," and "disease"; and at 7 to 12 months they were "burden," "independence," and "solution." Conclusion: These results provide valuable insights into the challenges and experiences encountered by new nurses during different stages of their field adaptation process. Objectives: Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) are the gold standard for evaluating the comparative efficacy and safety of new cancer therapies. However, enrolling patients in control arms of clinical trials can be challenging for rare cancers, particularly in the context of precision oncology and targeted therapies. External Control Arms (ECAs) are a potential solution to address these challenges in clinical research design. We conducted a scoping review to explore the use of ECAs in oncology. Methods: We systematically searched four databases, namely MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus. We screened titles, abstracts, and full texts for eligible articles focusing on patients undergoing therapy for cancer, employing ECAs, and reporting clinical outcomes. Results: Of the 629 articles screened, 23 were included in this review. The earliest included studies were published in 1996, while most studies were published in the past 5 years. 44% (10/23) of ECAs were employed in blood‐related cancer studies. Geographically, 30% (7/23) of studies were conducted in the United States, 22% (5/23) in Japan, and 9% (2/23) in South Korea. The primary data sources used to construct the ECAs involved pooled data from previous trials (35%, 8/23), administrative health databases (17%, 4/23) and electronic medical records (17%, 4/23). While 52% (12/23) of the studies employed methods to align treatment and ECAs characteristics, 48% (11/23) lacked explicit strategies. Conclusion: ECAs offer a valuable approach in oncology research, particularly when alternative designs are not feasible. Purpose: With the recent increase in interest in patient safety, prevention of falls in hospitalized children has become important. This study aimed to identify the incidence rate of falls among hospitalized children and explore fall-related characteristics. Methods: This retrospective descriptive study analyzed the medical information of 18,119 patients aged <18 years admitted to a general hospital in South Korea from electronic medical records and fall event reports between January 1, 2018, and September 30, 2023. The study variables included the general and clinical characteristics of the fall group and fall-related characteristics of the fall events. This study employed descriptive statistics and a chisquare test using IBM SPSS version 26.0. Results: Among the patients, 82 fall events were identified. Therefore, the fall incidence rate was 4.5 falls per 1,000 patients. Furthermore, a statistically significant difference was found concerning the type of injury sustained between children >1 year old and those <1 year old, and most cases had no damage or bruises. More cases were found in which falls occurred two days after hospitalization in winter and summer than on the day or the day after hospitalization, which was a statistically significant difference. In addition, fall prevalence was higher between 8 am and 4 pm, and when no caregiver was present. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, education and interventions to prevent fall events in infants and toddlers should persist throughout hospitalization, and it is necessary to guide continuous management and observation of the caregivers. Considering patient room shortages and prevalence of other communicable diseases, reassessing the isolation of patients with Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) is imperative. We conducted a retrospective study to investigate the secondary CDI transmission rate in a hospital in South Korea, where patients with CDI were not isolated. Using data from a real-time locating system and electronic medical records, we investigated patients who had both direct and indirect contact with CDI index patients. The primary outcome was secondary CDI transmission, identified by whole-genome sequencing. Among 909 direct and 2,711 indirect contact cases, 2 instances of secondary transmission were observed (2 [0.05%] of 3,620 cases), 1 transmission via direct contact and 1 via environmental sources. A low level of direct contact (113 minutes) was required for secondary CDI transmission. Our findings support the adoption of exhaustive standard preventive measures, including environmental decontamination, rather than contact isolation of CDI patients in nonoutbreak settings. Background: This study evaluated the effects of a mobile diabetes management program called "iCareD" (College of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea) which was integrated into the hospital's electronic medical records system to minimize the workload of the healthcare team in the real clinical practice setting. Methods: In this retrospective observational study, we recruited 308 patients. We categorized these patients based on their compliance regarding their use of the iCareD program at home; compliance was determined through self-monitored blood glucose inputs and message subscription rates. We analyzed changes in the ABC (hemoglobin A1c, blood pressure, and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) levels from the baseline to 12 months thereafter, based on the patients' iCareD usage patterns. Results: The patients comprised 92 (30%) non-users, 170 (55%) poor-compliance users, and 46 (15%) good-compliance users; the ABC target achievement rate showed prominent changes in good-compliance groups from baseline to 12 months (10.9% vs. 23.9%, P<0.05), whereas no significant changes were observed for poor-compliance users and non-users (13.5% vs. 18.8%, P=0.106; 20.7% vs. 14.1%, P=0.201; respectively). Conclusion: Implementing the iCareD can improve the ABC levels of patients with diabetes with minimal efforts of the healthcare team in real clinical settings. Background: The South Korean government has been actively involved in plans to combat dementia, implementing a series of national strategies and plans since 2008. In July 2014, eligibility for mandatory long-term care insurance (LTCI) was extended to people with dementia enabling access to appropriate long-term care including the cognitive function training program and home nursing service. This study aimed to investigate changes in treatment patterns for Alzheimer's disease (AD) between July 2011 and June 2017 which spanned the 2014 revision. Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, observational study of patients with newly diagnosed AD analyzed electronic medical records from 17 general hospitals across South Korea. Based on their time of AD diagnosis, subjects were categorized into Cohort 1 (1 July 2011 to 30 June 2014) and Cohort 2 (1 July 2014 to 30 June 2017). Results: Subjects (N=3,997) divided into Cohorts 1 (n=1,998) and 2 (n=1,999), were mostly female (66.4%) with a mean age of 84.4 years. Cohort 1 subjects were significantly older (P<0.0001) and had a lower number of comorbidities (P=0.002) compared with Cohort 2. Mean Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores in Cohorts 1 and 2 at the time of AD diagnosis or start of initial treatment were 16.9 and 17.1, respectively (P=0.2790). At 1 year, mean MMSE scores in Cohorts 1 and 2 increased to 17.9 and 17.4, respectively (P=0.1524). Donepezil was the most frequently administered medication overall (75.0%), with comparable rates between cohorts. Rates of medication persistence were ≥98% for acetylcholinesterase inhibitor or memantine therapy. Discontinuation and switch treatment rates were significantly lower (49.7% vs. 58.0%; P<0.0001), and mean duration of initial treatment significantly longer, in Cohort 2 vs. 1 (349.3 vs. 300.2 days; P<0.0001). Conclusions: Comparison of cohorts before and after revision of the national LTCI system for dementia patients found no significant difference in mean MMSE scores at the time of AD diagnosis or start of initial treatment. The reduction in the proportion of patients who discontinued or changed their initial treatment, and the significant increase in mean duration of treatment, were observed following revision of the LTCI policy which enabled increased patient access to long-term care. Simple Summary: We conducted a study using the Korean National Health Insurance Service–National Sample Cohort database to investigate if a hazard connection existed between prior use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) in the Korean population. Our research, which employed a nested case–control study with a statistical technique known as "propensity score nested weighted multivariate logistic regression", revealed that the risk of developing CRC increased regardless of whether individuals had a history of PPI use or the duration of PPI use. This suggests that prior use of PPIs, whether currently or in the past, and regardless of the duration, may be linked to an increased likelihood of CRC within the Korean population, highlighting the need for cautious and precise adherence to PPI medications according to treatment guidelines to mitigate potential adverse effects. The potential connection between proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) and colorectal cancer (CRC) risk remains unclear, with specific ethnic genetic backgrounds playing a role in PPI-induced adverse effects. In this nested case–control study, we investigated the risk of CRC in relation to preceding PPI use and the duration of use using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service–National Sample Cohort database, including 9374 incident CRC patients and 37,496 controls. To assess the impact of preceding PPI exposure (past vs. current) and use duration (days: <30, 30–90, and ≥90) on incident CRC, we conducted propensity score overlap-weighted multivariate logistic regression analyses, adjusted for confounding factors. Our findings revealed that past and current PPI users had an increased likelihood of developing CRC. Regardless of duration, individuals who used PPIs also had higher odds of developing CRC. Subgroup analyses revealed that CRC occurrence increased independent of history or duration of prior PPI use, consistent across various factors such as age, sex, income level, and residential area. Background: Rising costs of cancer treatments challenge even areas with universal health coverage. There's a need to assess current medical care utilization trends among patients with cancer to guide public health policy, resource allocation, and set informed healthcare goals. Methods: We analyzed the latest trends in medical care utilization by cancer patients in four areas—drugs, radiation therapy (RT), surgery, and diagnostic procedures—using clinical databases extracted from electronic medical records of a tertiary hospital in Korea between 2014 and 2019. Compound adjusted growth rates (CAGR) were computed to capture the annual growth over the study period. Results: A total of 74,285 cancer patients were identified, with 40.3% (29,962), 14.2% (10,577), 31.1% (23,066), and 92.6% (68,849) of patients having received at least one anticancer agent, RT, surgery, and diagnostic procedure, respectively, over the period. We observed a 1.7‐fold increase in the use of targeted · immune‐oncology agents (from 6.8% to 11.6%) and a 21‐fold increase (from 3.0% in 2014 to 65.7%) in intensity‐modulated RT (IMRT) use over the period. In contrast, we observed a continuous decrease in the proportion of patients who underwent surgical treatment from 12.2% in 2014 to 10.9% in 2019. This decrease was particularly noticeable in patients with colon cancer (from 28.5% to 24.2%) and liver cancer (from 4.1% to 2.9%). Conclusion: From 2014 to 2019, there was a significant rise in the use of targeted · immune‐oncology agents and IMRT, alongside a decline in surgeries. While targeted · immune‐oncology agents and IMRT may offer promising outcomes, their financial impact and potential for overuse necessitate careful oversight and long‐term cost‐effectiveness studies. Two live attenuated varicella vaccine (VZV) strains have been mainly used across the globe: MAV/06 and OKA strains. We aimed to explore the safety of interchanging the two VZV strains for primary and booster immunizations. South Korea's vaccine adverse event reporting system (VAERS) was accessed and searched to find filed reports of all adverse events (AEs) following immunization with the second dose of the varicella vaccine. The electronic medical records were reviewed for all visits to the hospital following the second dose of the varicella vaccine. Of the total 406 study participants, 27.5% (n = 112) were in the MAV/06–MAV/06 group, 30.3% (n = 123) in the MAV/06–OKA, 17.5% (n = 71) in the OKA–MAV/06 group, and 24.6% (n = 100) in the OKA–OKA group. Mean age at immunization with the first dose was 1.10 (standard deviation [SD] ±0.34) years old, and second dose was 4.77 (SD ± 1.13) (p = 0.772 and 0.933, respectively). There were no filed reports of AEs following the second dose in the national VAERS. Hospital visit records showed a total of 10.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 7.6–13.7) (n = 42) had recorded AEs following the 2nd administered dose; however, only 0.7% (95% CI, 0.2–2.4) (n = 3) were regarded as possibly vaccine related. Two patients in the MAV/06–OKA group were diagnosed with Henoch-Schonlein purpura after the second dose; however, both had also received the MMR vaccine on the same day. The concept of the quick sequential organ failure assessment (qSOFA) simplifies sepsis detection, and the next SOFA should be analyzed subsequently to diagnose sepsis. However, it does not include the concept of suspected infection. Thus, we simply developed a biomarker-based assessment model for detecting sepsis (BADS). We retrospectively reviewed the electronic health records of patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of a 2000-bed university tertiary referral hospital in South Korea. A total of 989 patients were enrolled, with 77.4% (n = 765) of them having sepsis. The patients were divided into a ratio of 8:2 and assigned to a training and a validation set. We used logistic regression analysis and the Hosmer–Lemeshow test to derive the BADS and assess the model. BADS was developed by analyzing the variables and then assigning weights to the selected variables: mean arterial pressure, shock index, lactate, and procalcitonin. The area under the curve was 0.754, 0.615, 0.763, and 0.668 for BADS, qSOFA, SOFA, and acute physiology and chronic health evaluation (APACHE) II, respectively, showing that BADS is not inferior in sepsis prediction compared with SOFA. Background/Aims: Metachronous recurrence incidences and risk factors following endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for gastric adenocarcinoma and dysplasias were investigated. Methods: Retrospective review of electronic medical records of patients who underwent gastric ESD at The Catholic University of Korea, Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital. Results: A total of 190 subjects were enrolled for analysis during the study period. The mean age was 64.4 years and the male sex occupied 73.7%. The mean observation period following ESD was 3.45 years. The annual incidence rate of metachronous gastric neoplasms (MGN) was about 3.96%. The annual incidence rate was 5.36% for the low-grade dysplasia group, 6.47% for the high-grade dysplasia group, and 2.74% for the EGC group. MGN was more frequent in the dysplasia group than in the EGC group (p<0.05). For those with MGN development, the mean time interval from ESD to MGN was 4.1 (±1.8) years. By using the Kaplan-Meier model, the estimated mean MGN free survival time was 9.97 years (95% confidence interval, 8.53-11.40) The histological types of MGN were not related to the primary histology types. Conclusions: MGN following ESD developed in 3.96% annually and MGN was more frequent in the dysplasia group. The histological types of MGN did not correlate with those of primary neoplasm. Simple Summary: Death represents the definitive endpoint for a patient; therefore, it is crucial to determine an accurate date of death. This study aims to examine the final-administered medication in a gold standard cohort that assesses death data accuracy. By utilizing electronic health records from a single medical institution and the Korean Central Cancer Registry, we establish the gold standard as patients who died in the hospital after the implementation of electronic health records, with a difference of 0 or 1 day between the final hospital visit/discharge and death. We calculate the similarity of the terminal medication between the gold standard and cohorts using cosine similarity. The findings reveal a positive correlation between mortality rates and similarities of the final-administered medication. This study introduces the potential of the last administered medication as a novel data quality measure of death data when the date of death differs between datasets. Death is a crucial outcome in retrospective cohort studies, serving as a criterion for analyzing mortality in a database. This study aimed to assess the quality of extracted death data and investigate the potential of the final-administered medication as a variable to quantify accuracy for the validation dataset. Electronic health records from both an in-hospital and the Korean Central Cancer Registry were used for this study. The gold standard was established by examining the differences between the dates of in-hospital deaths and cancer-registered deaths. Cosine similarity was employed to quantify the final-administered medication similarities between the gold standard and other cohorts. The gold standard was determined as patients who died in the hospital after 2006 and whose final hospital visit/discharge date and death date differed by 0 or 1 day. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the involvement of patients who died from he)matologic neoplasms in the decision-making process surrounding the withdrawal of life)sustaining treatment (LST). Methods: A total of 255 patients diagnosed with hematologic neoplasms who ultimately died following decisions related to LST during their end-of-life period at a university hospital were included in the study. Data were retrospectively ob)tained from electronic medical records and analyzed utilizing the chi-square test, indepen)dent t-test, and logistic regression. Results: In total, 42.0% of patients participated in the decision-making process regarding LST for their hematologic neoplasms, while 58.0% of decisions were made with family involvement. Among these patients, 65.1% died in general wards and 34.9% in intensive care units (ICUs) as a result of decisions such as the suspen)sion of LST. The period from the LST decision to death was longer when the decision was made by the patient (average, 27.15 days) than when it was made by the family (average, 7.48 days). Most decisions were made by doctors and family members in the ICU, where only 20.6% of patients exercised their right to make decisions regarding LST, a rate con)siderably lower than 79.4% observed in general wards. Decisions to withhold or withdraw LST were more commonly made by patients themselves than by their families. Conclusion: The key to discussing the decision to suspend hospice care and LST is respecting the patient’ s self-determination. Aim: To investigate the associations of sleep duration and physical frailty with cognitive function in older patients with both atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Design: This study used a cross‐sectional, secondary data analysis design. Method: We included outpatients aged ≥ 65 years with coexisting atrial fibrillation and heart failure in South Korea. We used a sample of 176 patients (men = 100) with HF among 277 data from the parent study. The data were collected through a self‐report, structured questionnaire and electronic medical record. Results: Our main finding showed that long sleep duration and physically frail status were significant predictors of cognitive impairment in older adults with both atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Healthcare providers should be aware of the importance of assessing sleep duration and physical activity in older adults with both atrial fibrillation and heart failure to prevent or delay cognitive impairment. Aim: To identify the factors affecting Emergency Department Length of Stay for transferred critically ill patients. Background: The Length of Stay of the transferred patients is an important indicator of Emergency Department service quality; thus, understanding the factors affecting the Emergency Department Length of Stay of transferred critically ill patients is essential. Methods: Using the electronic medical records of 968 transferred critically ill Emergency Department patients of a tertiary hospital in Korea, prediction models for Emergency Department Length of Stay were built using various machine learning algorithms. Results: The logistic regression (AUROC 0.85) models showed the best performance, followed by random forest (AUROC 0.83) and Naive Bayes (AUROC 0.83). The logistic regression model indicated that fewer consultations, the highest acuity level, need for an emergency operation or angiography, need for ICU admission, severe emergency disease and fewer diagnoses were the statistically significant predictors for Emergency Department Length of Stay of 6 h or less. Conclusions: The transferred critically ill patients analysed in this study who required immediate or specialized care tended to receive needed care on time at the study site. Background: Paralysis of medical systems has emerged as a major problem not only in Korea but also globally because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, early identification and treatment of COVID-19 are crucial. This study aims to develop a machine-learning algorithm based on bio-signals that predicts the infection three days in advance before it progresses from mild to severe, which may necessitate high-flow oxygen therapy or mechanical ventilation. Methods: The study included 2758 hospitalized patients with mild severity COVID-19 between July 2020 and October 2021. Bio-signals, clinical information, and laboratory findings were retrospectively collected from the electronic medical records of patients. Machine learning methods included random forest, random forest ranger, gradient boosting machine, and support vector machine (SVM). Results: SVM showed the best performance in terms of accuracy, kappa, sensitivity, detection rate, balanced accuracy, and run-time; the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was also quite high at 0.96. Body temperature and SpO2 three and four days before discharge or exacerbation were ranked high among SVM features. Conclusions: The proposed algorithm can predict the exacerbation of severity three days in advance in patients with mild COVID-19. This prediction can help effectively manage the reallocation of appropriate medical resources in clinical settings. Therefore, this algorithm can facilitate adequate oxygen therapy and mechanical ventilator preparation, thereby improving patient prognosis, increasing the efficiency of medical systems, and mitigating the damage caused by a global pandemic. Background: Bismuth salt is bacteriostatic and bactericidal against Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). Little is known about the benefit of bismuth itself. Recently in Korea, government regulation changed to allow bismuth add-on to conventional triple eradication regimens. Study aimed the additional benefit of the bismuth add-on to the 2-week clarithromycin-based triple regimen for H. pylori eradication. Background: Atelectasis may play a substantial role in the development of pneumonia. However, pneumonia has never been evaluated as an outcome of atelectasis in surgical patients. We aimed to determine whether atelectasis is related to an increased risk of postoperative pneumonia, intensive care unit (ICU) admission and hospital length of stay (LOS). Methods: The electronic medical records of adult patients who underwent elective non-cardiothoracic surgery under general anesthesia between October 2019 and August 2020 were reviewed. They were divided into two groups: one who developed postoperative atelectasis (atelectasis group) and the other who did not (non-atelectasis group). The primary outcome was the incidence of pneumonia within 30 days after the surgery. The secondary outcomes were ICU admission rate and postoperative LOS. Results: Patients in the atelectasis group were more likely to have risk factors for postoperative pneumonia including age, body mass index, a history of hypertension or diabetes mellitus and duration of surgery, compared with those in the non-atelectasis. Among 1,941 patients, 63 (3.2%) developed postoperative pneumonia; 5.1% in the atelectasis group and 2.8% in the non-atelectasis (P = 0.025). In multivariable analysis, atelectasis was associated with an increased risk of pneumonia (adjusted odds ratio, 2.33; 95% CI: 1.24 – 4.38; P = 0.008). Median postoperative LOS was significantly longer in the atelectasis group (7 [interquartile range: 5–10 days]) than in the non-atelectasis (6 [3–8] days) (P < 0.001). Adjusted median duration was also 2.19 days longer in the atelectasis group (β, 2.19; 95% CI: 0.821 – 2.834; P < 0.001). ICU admission rate was higher in the atelectasis group (12.1% vs. 6.5%; P < 0.001), but it did not differ between the groups after adjustment for confounders (adjusted odds ratio, 1.52; 95% CI: 0.88 – 2.62; P = 0.134). Conclusion: Among patients undergoing elective non-cardiothoracic surgery, patients with postoperative atelectasis were associated with a 2.33-fold higher incidence of pneumonia and a longer LOS than those without atelectasis. This finding alerts the need for careful management of perioperative atelectasis to prevent or reduce the adverse events including pneumonia and the burden of hospitalizations. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze end-of-life care practices in lung disease patients with physician orders for life-sustaining treatment (POLSTs). Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data from medical records regarding the end-of-life care practices of POLST decisions for patients with lung disease hospitalized at a tertiary hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Data were collected from January 1 to June 30, 2021. Results: Of 300 total patients, 198 had lung cancer (66.0%) and 102 had non-malignant lung diseases (34.0%). A POLST was written for 187 patients (62.3%), and an advance directive was written for 20 patients (6.7%). Subsequent treatments were hemodialysis in 13 patients (4.3%), surgery in 3 patients (1.0%), and cardiopulmonary cerebral resuscitation in 1 patient (0.3%). Among cancer patients, chemotherapy was performed in 11 patients (3.7%), targeted therapy in 11 patients (3.7%), immunotherapy in 6 patients (2.0%), and radiation therapy in 13 patients (4.3%). Depending on the type of lung disease, types of treatment differed, including hemodialysis, ventilators, bilevel positive airway pressure, high-flow nasal cannulas, nebulizers, enteral nutrition, central line, inotropic agents, and opioids. Conclusion: Although the goals of hospice care are the same whether a patient has lung cancer or a nonmalignant lung disease, because the characteristics of the respective diseases differ, end-oflife care practices and hospice approaches must be considered differently. We examined the associations of clinical characteristics and cause-of-death patterns with mortality in children and young adults (<30 years) with diabetes. We analyzed a nationwide cohort sample from the KNHIS database using propensity score matching from a sample of 1 million people from 2002 to 2013. There were 10,006 individuals in the diabetes mellitus (DM) group and 10,006 in the control (no DM) group. The numbers of deaths were 77 in the DM group and 20 in the control group. The deaths of patients in the DM Group were 3.74 (95% confidence interval (CI) = 2.25–6.21) times higher than in the control group. Type 1 DM, type 2 DM and unspecified DM were 4.52 (95% CI = 1.89–10.82) times, 3.25 (95% CI = 1.95–5.43) times and 10.20 (95% CI = 5.24–20.18) times higher, respectively. Mental disorders were 2.08 times higher in the risk of death (95% CI = 1.27–3.40). Mortality rates have increased in children and young adults with diabetes alone. Therefore, in the future, it is necessary to identify the cause of the increased mortality rate among young diabetic people and select vulnerable groups among them so that early prevention can be achieved. Background. Predicting the course of depression is necessary for personalized treatment. Impaired glucose metabolism (IGM) was introduced as a promising depression biomarker, but no consensus was made. This study aimed to predict IGM at the time of depression diagnosis and examine the relationship between long-term prognosis and predicted results. Methods. Clinical data were extracted from four electronic health records in South Korea. The study population included patients with depression, and the outcome was IGM within 1 year. One database was used to develop the model using three algorithms. External validation was performed using the best algorithm across the three databases. The area under the curve (AUC) was calculated to determine the model’s performance. Kaplan–Meier and Cox survival analyses of the risk of hospitalization for depression as the long-term outcome were performed. A metaanalysis of the long-term outcome was performed across the four databases. Results. A prediction model was developed using the data of 3,668 people, with an AUC of 0.781 with least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) logistic regression. In the external validation, the AUCs were 0.643, 0.610, and 0.515. Through the predicted results, survival analysis and meta-analysis were performed; the hazard ratios of risk of hospitalization for depression in patients predicted to have IGM was 1.20 (95% confidence interval [CI] 1.02–1.41, p = 0.027) at a 3-year follow-up. Conclusions. We developed prediction models for IGM occurrence within a year. The use of Clinical Data Warehouse (CDW) for research and quality improvement has become more frequent in the last 10 years. In this study, we used CDW to determine the effectiveness of pressure ulcer interventions offered by ward nurses and wound care nursing specialists. A retrospective clinical outcomes study that utilise CDW has been carried out. We identified 1415 patients who were evaluated as pressure ulcer risk group from 1 July 2019 to 31 December 2019. Kaplan‐Meier survival analyses were used to estimate the time to occurrence of pressure ulcers. We compared the survival curves of each group by applying the log‐rank test for significance. The overall median time to occurrence for both groups was 13 days (95% CI range: 11‐14 days). The control group showed a longer median time (14 days) to occurrence than the case group (12 days). In the pressure ulcer stage I, the case group showed a longer median time (14 days) to occurrence than the control group (8 days), indicating that the intervention provided by the wound care nursing specialist was effective in stage I, and delayed the occurrence of pressure ulcers. The findings may be used as preliminary data for the utilisation of the CDW in the field of nursing research in the future. Simple Summary: The incidence of postoperative pneumonia (POP) in patients with cancer is high owing to functional impairment of the immune system associated with cancer and additional lung damage caused by surgery. The incidence of POP following major cancer surgeries is unclear. Therefore, we investigated the incidence and risk factors of POP after cancer surgery in patients with the five most common cancers in Korea using a common data model (CDM). The CDM was a method to easily solve clinical questions using medical big data. The cumulative POP incidence in the five cancers using the CDM was approximately 3%. POP was most common in lung cancer (n = 91, 4.5%), followed by gastric (n = 133, 3.3%), colon (n = 19, 3.1%), liver (n = 14, 1.7%), and breast (n = 5, 0.5%) cancers. Older age, male sex, chronic pulmonary disease, mood disorder, and cerebrovascular disease were POP risk factors in patients with cancer. Patients aged >19 years who underwent gastric, colon, liver, lung, or breast cancer surgery between January 2011 and December 2020 were included, excluding patients who underwent chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Pneumonia was defined as a pneumonia diagnosis code in patients hospitalized postoperatively. Gastric, colon, lung, breast, and liver cancers were noted in 4004 (47.4%), 622 (7.4%), 2022 (24%), 958 (11.3%), and 839 (9.9%) of 8445 patients, respectively. The cumulative POP incidence was 3.1% (n = 262), with the highest incidence in lung cancer (n = 91, 4.5%), followed by gastric (n = 133, 3.3%), colon (n = 19, 3.1%), liver (n = 14, 1.7%), and breast (n = 5, 0.5%) cancers. In multivariable analysis, older age, male sex, history of chronic pulmonary disease, mood disorder, and cerebrovascular disease were POP predictors. Primary enucleation is a life-saving treatment for advanced intraocular retinoblastoma, particularly in patients with poor visual potential and functional contralateral eyes. This single-center study presents the treatment outcomes of patients with unilateral retinoblastoma who received primary enucleation and adjuvant chemotherapy with cyclophosphamide, vincristine, doxorubicin, and intrathecal methotrexate (CVDM) between 2000 and 2020. Twenty patients were enrolled in the study. The median age at diagnosis was 26 months (range, 1–45). Eighteen patients (90%) were in group E and two (10%) were in group D, according to the intraocular classification of retinoblastoma guidelines. Excluding one patient with an inadequate specimen, 19 patients (95%) had optic nerve involvement (ONI) at least up to the lamina cribrosa. Eight patients (40%) had choroidal invasion in addition to ONI. Two patients (10%) were surgical resection margin positive. The overall and event-free survival rates were 100% and 95%, respectively, for a median follow-up duration of 102.24 months (range 24.2–202.9). There were no relapses or deaths due to any cause, but one patient developed secondary rhabdomyosarcoma 99.6 months after chemotherapy. Treatment was well tolerated, with minimal hematotoxicity and hepatotoxicity. CVDM as a post-enucleation chemotherapy for advanced intraocular retinoblastoma has excellent outcomes with tolerable toxicity. However, in line with updated treatment trends, further risk stratification and lowering the treatment intensity should be considered. Background: Few studies have investigated unspecified or idiopathic pain associated with COIVD-19. This study aimed to provide the incidence rates of unspecified pain and idiopathic pain in patients with COVID-19 for 90 days after COVID-19 diagnosis. Methods: A propensity score matched cohort was used, including all patients with COVID-19 in South Korea, and analyzed their electronic medical records. The control group consisted of those who had not had tests for COVID-19 at all. Unspecified pain diagnoses consisted of diagnoses related to pain included in the ICD-10 Chapter XVIII. Idiopathic pain disorders included fibromyalgia, temporomandibular joint disorders, headaches, chronic prostatitis, complex regional pain syndrome, atypical facial pain, irritable bowel syndrome, and interstitial cystitis. Results: After matching, the number of participants in each group was 7,911. For most unspecified pain, the incidences were higher in the COVID-19 group (11.7%; 95% confidence interval [CI], 11.0-12.5) than in the control group (6.5%; 95% CI, 6.0-7.1). For idiopathic pain, only the headaches had a significantly higher incidence in the COVID-19 group (6.6%; 95% CI, 6.1-7.2) than in the control group (3.7%; 95% CI, 3.3-4.1). However, using a different control group that included only patients who visited a hospital at least once for any reasons, the incidences of most unspecified and idiopathic pain were higher in the control group than in the COVID-19 group. Conclusions: Patients with COVID-19 might be at a higher risk of experiencing unspecified pain in the acute phase or after recovery compared with individuals who had not had tests for COVID-19. As incidences of osteoporotic hip fractures (OHFs) have increased, identifying OHFs has become important to establishing the medical guidelines for their management. This study was conducted to develop an operational definition to identify patients with OHFs using two diagnosis codes and eight procedure codes from health insurance claims data and to assess the operational definition's validity through a chart review. The study extracted data on OHFs from 522 patients who underwent hip surgeries based on diagnosis codes. Orthopedic surgeons then reviewed these patients' medical records and radiographs to identify those with true OHFs. The validities of nine different algorithms of operational definitions, developed using a combination of three levels of diagnosis codes and eight procedure codes, were assessed using various statistics. The developed operational definition showed an accuracy above 0.97 and an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve above 0.97, indicating excellent discriminative power. This study demonstrated that the operational definition that combines diagnosis and procedure codes shows a high validity in detecting OHFs and can be used as a valid tool to detect OHFs from big health claims data. This study analyzed the risk factors for heel pressure injury in cardiovascular intensive care unit patients with the aim of laying the groundwork for preventive nursing interventions. We conducted a retrospective case‐control study of 92 patients who were admitted to the cardiovascular surgical or medical intensive care unit of a university hospital in South Korea between January and December 2017. Of these patients, 31 and 61 were included to the heel pressure injury group and the non‐heel pressure injury group, respectively. Data on their demographic, disease‐related, and intensive care unit treatment characteristics, as well as the degree of pressure injury, were collected from the hospital's electronic medical records using a standardized form. Cardiac surgery (P <.001), operation time (P =.001), use of a mechanical ventilator (P <.001), use of vasoconstrictors (P <.001), use of sedative drugs (P <.001), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment (P <.001) were identified as significant risk factors for heel pressure injury. A total of 22 patients (71%) from the heel pressure injury group developed deep tissue injury, and 16 patients (51.6%) who received extracorporeal membrane oxygenation treatment developed heel pressure injury. Objective: For peripheral artery disease (PAD) patients, after endovascular revascularization, it is crucial to manage associated factors that can affect the risk of major adverse events. We aimed to investigate the associated factors of major adverse events in these patients. Materials and Methods: We conducted a retrospective longitudinal analysis using the electronic medical records from a tertiary hospital in Korea and included the data of 1263 patients. Eligible patients were categorized into four groups based on diabetes mellitus (DM) and regular exercise. The major adverse events included major adverse limb events and major adverse cardiovascular events. Major adverse events-free survival was assessed using the Kaplan–Meier method, and associated factors of major adverse events were analyzed using Cox proportional hazards analyses. Results: Kaplan–Meier survival curves showed that patients with DM and non-regular exercise had a shorter major adverse events-free survival. The Cox regression analysis showed that for patients with critical limb ischemia or chronic kidney disease, the risk of major adverse events increased, while group variables were not significant. Conclusion: Target management of patients with DM, critical limb ischemia, and chronic kidney disease is essential to reduce major adverse events after endovascular revascularization in patients with PAD. Background: We evaluated the achievement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) targets in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) according to up-to-date Korean Diabetes Association (KDA), European Society of Cardiology (ESC)/European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS), and American Diabetes Association (ADA) guidelines. Methods: This retrospective cohort study collected electronic medical record data from patients with T2DM (≥20 years) managed by endocrinologists from 15 hospitals in Korea (January to December 2019). Patients were categorized according to guidelines to assess LDL-C target achievement. KDA (2019): Very High-I (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease [ASCVD]) <70 mg/dL; Very High-II (target organ damage [TOD], or cardiovascular risk factors [CVRFs]) <70 mg/dL; high (others) <100 mg/dL. ESC/EAS (2019): Very High-I (ASCVD): <55 mg/dL; Very High-II (TOD or ≥3-CVRF) <55 mg/dL; high (diabetes ≥10 years without TOD plus any CVRF) <70 mg/dL; moderate (diabetes <10 years without CVRF) <100 mg/dL. ADA (2019): Very High-I (ASCVD); Very High-II (age ≥40+ TOD, or any CVRF), for high intensity statin or statin combined with ezetimibe. Results: Among 2,000 T2DM patients (mean age 62.6 years; male 55.9%; mean glycosylated hemoglobin 7.2%) ASCVD prevalence was 24.7%. Of 1,455 (72.8%) patients treated with statins, 73.9% received monotherapy. According to KDA guidelines, LDLC target achievement rates were 55.2% in Very High-I and 34.9% in Very High-II patients. With ESC/EAS guidelines, target attainment rates were 26.6% in Very High-I, 15.7% in Very High-II, and 25.9% in high risk patients. Based on ADA guidelines, most patients (78.9%) were very-high risk; however, only 15.5% received high-intensity statin or combination therapy. Background: Identifying patients at a high risk of psychosis relapse is crucial for early interventions. A relevant psychiatric clinical context is often recorded in clinical notes; however, the utilization of unstructured data remains limited. This study aimed to develop psychosis-relapse prediction models using various types of clinical notes and structured data. Methods: Clinical data were extracted from the electronic health records of the Ajou University Medical Center in South Korea. The study population included patients with psychotic disorders, and outcome was psychosis relapse within 1 year. Using only structured data, we developed an initial prediction model, then three natural language processing (NLP)-enriched models using three types of clinical notes (psychological tests, admission notes, and initial nursing assessment) and one complete model. Latent Dirichlet Allocation was used to cluster the clinical context into similar topics. All models applied the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator logistic regression algorithm. We also performed an external validation using another hospital database. Results: A total of 330 patients were included, and 62 (18.8%) experienced psychosis relapse. Six predictors were used in the initial model and 10 additional topics from Latent Dirichlet Allocation processing were added in the enriched models. The model derived from all notes showed the highest value of the area under the receiver operating characteristic (AUROC = 0.946) in the internal validation, followed by models based on the psychological test notes, admission notes, initial nursing assessments, and structured data only (0.902, 0.855, 0.798, and 0.784, respectively). The external validation was performed using only the initial nursing assessment note, and the AUROC was 0.616. Conclusions: We developed prediction models for psychosis relapse using the NLP-enrichment method. Objective: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of laparoscopic adnexa surgery using the articulating laparoscopic instrument, which offers flexible and ergonomic movements similar to robotic systems. Methods: This multicenter prospective observational study was conducted in South Korea and Taiwan. The electronic medical records of patients who underwent laparoscopic adnexectomy using the articulating laparoscopic instrument (ArtiSential®; LIVSMED Inc.) between October 2022 and September 2023 were analyzed. Data on patient demographics, operative and pathologic data were prospectively collected. Results: A total of 66 patients underwent laparoscopic adnexal surgery using the articulating instrument. The median age of the patients was 43 years (range, 23-76), and the median body mass index was 22.5 kg/m2 (range, 17.1-43.4). Of the patients, 35 (53.0%) underwent oophorectomy or salpingectomy, 31 (47.0%) underwent cystectomy of the ovary or fallopian tube. The final pathology after surgery was benign in 61 patients (92.4%), followed by borderline in 3 patients (4.5%) and malignant in 2 patients (3.0%). During surgery, pelvic adhesion was present in 13 patients (19.7%) and adhesiolysis was performed. The median total operation time was 53.5 minutes (range, 26 - 174), and the median estimated blood loss was 50 mL (range, 10-200). The median length of postoperative hospital stay was 1 days (range, 0-3 days). Only two patients experienced a postoperative complication, which was a trocar site wound dehiscence. Rosacea is a common and chronic inflammatory skin disorder. The visiting trends and prescribing patterns involving Korean patients with rosacea have not been thoroughly examined. To examine the visiting trends of patients with rosacea, and to analyze the prescription patterns of Korean dermatologists managing such patients, a retrospective cross-sectional study on dermatology outpatients who visited the seven affiliated hospitals of The Catholic University of Korea between 2007 and 2018 was performed. A total of 56,651 visits were made by rosacea patients. The mean annual number of hospital visits made by rosacea patients over a 6-year period increased from 2456 in 2007–2012 to 6985 in 2013–2018. Hospital visits were most prevalent in female patients aged 40 to 59 years. There was no statistically significant difference in patient visitation between the seasons. As for prescriptions, systemic antibiotics were most commonly prescribed, followed by antihistamines, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and retinoids. Among the topical agents, metronidazole was the most prescribed agent during 2007–2012, whereas calcineurin inhibitors were favored most during 2013–2018. Dermatology outpatient visits by individuals with rosacea have increased in Korea over time. Background: This study was conducted to compare the reported adverse event (AE) profiles and unexpected use of medical services during chemotherapy between before and after the healthcare reimbursement of AE evaluation in patients with cancer. Patients and Methods: Using the electronic medical record database system, extracted patients with breast, lung, gastric, and colorectal cancers receiving neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy between September 2013 and December 2016 at four centers in Korea were matched using the 1:1 greedy method: pre‐reimbursement group (n = 1084) and post‐reimbursement group (n = 1084). Unexpected outpatient department (OPD), emergency room (ER) visit, hospitalization rates, and chemotherapy completion rates were compared between the groups. Results: The baseline characteristics were well‐balanced between the groups. By chemotherapy cycle, hospitalization (1.8% vs. 2.3%; p = 0.039), and ER visit rates (3.3% vs. 3.9%; p = 0.064) were lower in the post‐reimbursement group than that in the pre‐reimbursement group. In particular, since cycle 2, ER visit and hospitalization rates were significantly lower in the post‐reimbursement group than those in the pre‐reimbursement group (2.6% vs. 3.3%; p = 0.020 and 1.4% vs. 2.0%; p = 0.007, respectively), although no significant differences were observed during cycle 1. The OPD visit rates were similar between both groups, regardless of cycles. The post‐reimbursement group had a higher proportion of patients who completed chemotherapy as planned than the pre‐reimbursement group (93.5% vs. 90.1%; p = 0.006). Post‐reimbursement group had more AEs reported, including alopecia, fatigue, diarrhea, anorexia, and peripheral neuropathy, during cycle 1 than the pre‐reimbursement group, which significantly decreased after cycle 2. Conclusion: The introduction of healthcare reimbursement for AE evaluation may help physicians capture and appropriately manage AEs, consequently, decreasing hospital utilization and increasing chemotherapy completion rates. Background: We investigated whether we could use influenza data to develop prediction models for COVID-19 to increase the speed at which prediction models can reliably be developed and validated early in a pandemic. We developed COVID-19 Estimated Risk (COVER) scores that quantify a patient's risk of hospital admission with pneumonia (COVER-H), hospitalization with pneumonia requiring intensive services or death (COVER-I), or fatality (COVER-F) in the 30-days following COVID-19 diagnosis using historical data from patients with influenza or flu-like symptoms and tested this in COVID-19 patients.Methods: We analyzed a federated network of electronic medical records and administrative claims data from 14 data sources and 6 countries containing data collected on or before 4/27/2020. We used a 2-step process to develop 3 scores using historical data from patients with influenza or flu-like symptoms any time prior to 2020. The first step was to create a data-driven model using LASSO regularized logistic regression, the covariates of which were used to develop aggregate covariates for the second step where the COVER scores were developed using a smaller set of features. These 3 COVER scores were then externally validated on patients with 1) influenza or flu-like symptoms and 2) confirmed or suspected COVID-19 diagnosis across 5 databases from South Korea, Spain, and the United States. Outcomes included i) hospitalization with pneumonia, ii) hospitalization with pneumonia requiring intensive services or death, and iii) death in the 30 days after index date.Results: Overall, 44,507 COVID-19 patients were included for model validation. We identified 7 predictors (history of cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, diabetes, heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, kidney disease) which combined with age and sex discriminated which patients would experience any of our three outcomes. The models achieved good performance in influenza and COVID-19 cohorts. For COVID-19 the AUC ranges were, COVER-H: 0.69-0.81, COVER-I: 0.73-0.91, and COVER-F: 0.72-0.90. Calibration varied across the validations with some of the COVID-19 validations being less well calibrated than the influenza validations.Conclusions: This research demonstrated the utility of using a proxy disease to develop a prediction model. The 3 COVER models with 9-predictors that were developed using influenza data perform well for COVID-19 patients for predicting hospitalization, intensive services, and fatality. The scores showed good discriminatory performance which transferred well to the COVID-19 population. There was some miscalibration in the COVID-19 validations, which is potentially due to the difference in symptom severity between the two diseases. Aim: To analyse medication error data from a hospital's electronic reporting system and identify the factors affecting error types and harmfulness. Design: A retrospective study. Methods: The 805 near misses and adverse events reported to the hospital's electronic reporting system between January 2014 and December 2018 were analysed using descriptive statistics, chi‐square tests and logistic regression analyses. Results: A total of 632 near misses and 173 adverse events were reported. Near misses and adverse events were the most common error type during the dispensing stage and medication administration, respectively. The odds of medication errors reported by nurses with 1–9 years of clinical experience were relatively low. After adjusting for confounders, the odds of medication errors directly observed by nurses were 65% lower than the odds of medication errors not directly detected. Background: Healthcare organizations have begun to adopt personal health records (PHR) systems to engage patients, but little is known about factors associated with the adoption of PHR systems at an organizational level. The objective of this study is to investigate factors associated with healthcare organizations' adoption of PHR systems in South Korea.Methods: The units of analysis were hospitals with more than 100 beds. Study data of 313 hospitals were collected from May 1 to June 30, 2020. The PHR adoption status for each hospital was collected from PHR vendors and online searches. Adoption was then confirmed by downloading the hospital's PHR app and the PHR app was examined to ascertain its available functions. One major outcome variable was PHR adoption status at hospital level. Data were analysed by logistic regressions using SAS 9.4 version.Results: Out of 313 hospitals, 103 (32.9%) hospitals adopted PHR systems. The nurse-patient ratio was significantly associated with PHR adoption (OR 0.758; 0.624 to 0.920, p = 0.005). The number of health information management staff was associated with PHR adoption (OR 1.622; 1.228 to 2.141, p = 0.001). The number of CTs was positively associated with PHR adoption (OR 5.346; 1.962 to 14.568, p = 0.001). Among the hospital characteristics, the number of beds was significantly related with PHR adoption in the model of standard of nursing care (OR 1.003; 1.001 to 1.005, p < 0.001), HIM staff (OR 1.004; 1.002 to 1.006, p < 0.001), and technological infrastructure (OR 1.050; 1.003 to 1.006, p < 0.001).Conclusions: One-third of study hospitals had adopted PHR systems. Standard of nursing care as well as information technology infrastructure in terms of human resources for health information management and advanced technologies were significantly associated with adoption of PHR systems. Allopurinol is the first-line agent for patients with gout, including those with moderate‐to‐severe chronic kidney disease. However, increased thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) levels are observed in patients with long-term allopurinol treatment. This large-scale, nested case–control, retrospective observational study analysed the association between allopurinol use and increased TSH levels. A common data model based on an electronic medical record database of 19,200,973 patients from seven hospitals between January 1997 and September 2020 was used. Individuals aged > 19 years in South Korea with at least one record of a blood TSH test were included. Data of 59,307 cases with TSH levels > 4.5 mIU/L and 236,508 controls matched for sex, age (± 5), and cohort registration date (± 30 days) were analysed. An association between the risk of increased TSH and allopurinol use in participants from five hospitals was observed. A meta-analysis (I2 = 0) showed that the OR was 1.51 (95% confidence interval: 1.32–1.72) in both the fixed and random effects models. The allopurinol intake group demonstrated that increased TSH did not significantly affect free thyroxine and thyroxine levels. After the index date, some diseases were likely to occur in patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and hypothyroidism. Allopurinol administration may induce subclinical hypothyroidism. Purpose The electronic medical record is the sets of individual patient health information stored in a digital format. This format can be shared across medical networks. This system enables the efficient transfer of medical records between institutions, patients and staff. The EMR contains personal health information; therefore, network access to patient-related data must be monitored and controlled to ensure that unlawful parties do not misuse personal information. Han et al. proposed several biometric-based authentication methods. However, Madhusudan et al. revealed that the biometric-based authentication method proposed by Han et al. had various weaknesses and proposed an authentication scheme with improved security suitable for the EMR system. In this paper, through a security analysis, we analyse the operation process of the scheme by Madhusudhan et al. and reveal problems, including H(B_i ) recognition errors, no perfect forward secrecy, insider attacks (user identification guessing attacks), insider attacks (forgery attacks) and denial-of-service attacks. Method In Madhusudhan et al. scheme, a general hash function is used to use biometric information. If a general hash function is used, there is a problem that an error occurs even if biometric information is input slightly differently. The user enters biometric information in the login phase to log in to the server becomes the value of using for encryption. The login step proceeds only when the value is equal to, is, and is to input as Since is biometric information, it shows a little difference each time you enter a value. Since the combination of comes out differently depending on the input value, even if is input slightly differently, the value of may be output differently from the existing value. The fact that Perfect Forward Secrecy is satisfied means that even if one of the important master keys of the scheme is exposed, the previous session key cannot be found. However, in this scheme, if the value of one of the unchanging long-term keys, is exposed, not only the future session key but also the previously used session key can be found, which does not satisfy Perfect Forward Secrecy. And if the attacker acquires the user's smart card and knows the inside information, he can also find out the user's previous session key. Results and Discussion In this paper, after explaining the operation process of the authentication scheme with improved security for the EMR proposed by Madhusudhan et al., a security analysis was conducted. The scheme proposed by Madhusudhan et al. has security problems, such as H(B_i) recognition errors, no perfect forward secrecy, insider attacks (user identification guessing attacks and forgery attacks), and DoS attacks. Cost-effectiveness analysis has been widely used to assess and compare the costs and benefits of a clinical service. The cost-effectiveness of vancomycin therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) has not been studied in the elderly, who are susceptible to vancomycin-induced adverse effects. This study was performed to evaluate if vancomycin TDM is cost-effective in elderly patients in the Republic of Korea. Using the electronic medical records at a tertiary university hospital, we performed a retrospective observational study to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of vancomycin TDM in 850 elderly patients who underwent vancomycin TDM with an appropriate, recommended dosing regimen and 1094 elderly patients who did not. Cost-effectiveness variables such as clinical outcomes and medical expenses were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses. The TDM group spent significantly less than the non-TDM group per patient for total medical expenses (by USD 841.40) and medication expenses (by USD 16.70). However, no significant difference was noted between the TDM and non-TDM groups in clinical outcomes such as microbiological cure, prevention of nephrotoxicity, or reduced mortality, irrespective of admission to the intensive care unit. Patient similarity research is one of the most fundamental tasks in healthcare, helping to make decisions without incurring additional time and costs in clinical practices. Patient similarity can also apply to various medical fields, such as cohort analysis and personalized treatment recommendations. Because of this importance, patient similarity measurement studies are actively being conducted. However, medical data have complex, irregular, and sequential characteristics, making it challenging to measure similarity. Therefore, measuring accurate similarity is a significant problem. Existing similarity measurement studies use supervised learning to calculate the similarity between patients, with similarity measurement studies conducted only on one specific disease. However, it is not realistic to consider only one kind of disease, because other conditions usually accompany it; a study to measure similarity with multiple diseases is needed. This research proposes a convolution neural network-based model that jointly combines feature learning and similarity learning to define similarity in patients with multiple diseases. We used the cohort data from the National Health Insurance Sharing Service of Korea for the experiment. Experimental results verify that the proposed model has outstanding performance when compared to other existing models for measuring multiple-disease patient similarity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
