Currently, tissue product producers try to meet consumers’ requirements to retain their loyalty. In perforated products, such as toilet paper, these requirements involve the paper being portioned along the perforation line and not outside of it. Thus, it becomes necessary to enhance the behavior of the perforation line in perforated tissue papers. The current study aimed to verify if the perforation line for 0° (the solution found in commercial perforated products) is the best solution to maximize the perforation efficiency. A finite element (FE) simulation was used to validate the experimental data, where the deviations from the experiments were 5.2% for the case with a 4 mm perforation length and 8.8% for a perforation of 2 mm, and optimize the perforation efficiency using the genetic algorithm while considering two different cases. In the first case, the blank distance and the perforation line angle were varied, with the best configuration being achieved with a blank distance of 0.1 mm and an inclination angle of 0.56°. For the second case, the blank distance was fixed to 1.0 mm and the only variable to be optimized was the inclination angle of the perforation line. It was found that the best angle inclination was 0.67°. In both cases, it was verified that a slight inclination in the perforation line will favor partitioning and therefore the perforation efficiency.

Banana stem is a known alternative to wood for the production of pulp and paper. During the production of paper, it is extremely important to save costs and time while at the same time enhancing quality of produced paper. In the present study, paper was developed from banana stem fiber by optimizing its density. Response surface methodology (RSM) using Box-Behnken design (BBD) was used to determine optimum blending parameters of the developed papers. The influence of banana stem fiber amount (250-1000 g), water amount (1-2liters) and blending time (5-10 min) on paper density was analyzed using software Stat-Ease 360, Version 13. The optimum conditions of banana stem fiber amount, water amount and blending time to achieve a density of 675.75 g/m3 were determined as 461.83 g, 1.31liters, and 8.53 min, respectively. ANOVA results revealed that the quadratic model best fits the density response, with blending time and banana stem fiber amount as the most significant model terms. Linear effects were more predominant than quadratic and interaction effects. The developed density model was in close agreement with experimental findings with an R2 value of 0.9748. Developed paper had cellulosic contents, with volatiles as high as 82.11%wb and 2.11%wb ash composition. Future works on thermal properties of paper are encouraged.

Emergency general surgeons often provide care to severely ill patients requiring surgical interventions and intensive support. One of the primary drivers of morbidity and mortality is perioperative bleeding. In general, when addressing life threatening haemorrhage, blood transfusion can become an essential part of overall resuscitation. However, under all circumstances, indications for blood transfusion must be accurately evaluated. When patients decline blood transfusions, regardless of the reason, surgeons should aim to provide optimal care and respect and accommodate each patient's values and target the best outcome possible given the patient's desires and his/her clinical condition. The aim of this position paper was to perform a review of the existing literature and to provide comprehensive recommendations on organizational, surgical, anaesthetic, and haemostatic strategies that can be used to provide optimal peri-operative blood management, reduce, or avoid blood transfusions and ultimately improve patient outcomes. This study carried out the anaerobic digestion of recycled paper mill wastewater (RPMW) in a high-rate novel anaerobic baffled reactor. The parametric interaction between influent chemical oxygen demand (CODin) and hydraulic retention time (HRT) was modeled, and process responses were optimized by the response surface methodology (RSM) using a three-level factorial design. The results showed that the optimal condition was determined at CODin of 4,000 mg/L and HRT of 2 days and predicted values for COD removal, biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removal, lignin removal, CH4 content, and CH4 production were found to be 94%, 98%, 68%, 85%, and 20.8 L CH4/d, respectively. The aim of this study is to provide an Advanced Oxidation Process (AOP) based solution to enhance biological treatment efficiency by improving biodegradability of wastewater. Photo-Fenton and Peroxydisulfate (PDS)/UV processes were selected in this study as a representative of hydroxyl and sulfate radical based AOPs. A central composition design (CCD) employed to optimize operational cost and BOD/COD ratio to determine optimal conditions for enhancing wastewater treatment efficiency. The study achieved a maximum COD removal of 71.5 % and increased wastewater biodegradability. Optimal conditions for Photo-Fenton process were DOD (H 2 O 2) 0.28, [Fe2+] 106.26 mg/L, and pH 2.32, costing 2.27 USD per 1 kg COD removed. For PDS/UV process, 75.5 % COD removal was achieved at a cost of 10.6 USD/1 kg removed COD. The PDS/UV process had higher COD removal than Photo-Fenton but did not improve wastewater biodegradability. Optimal conditions were DOD (PDS) 0.19, pH 6.68, costing 10.6 USD/1 kg COD removed. In the case of combustible energy for domestic applications, briquettes produced from biomass have proven to be a good replacement for wood fuel. In this study, investigation on the performance analysis and optimization of mix ratio of briquettes produced from sugarcane bagasse using composite binders (waste paper and clay) was carried out. Box-Behnken Design feature of the Design Expert software was employed for the optimization of the briquettes mix ratio. Briquettes were produced from sugarcane bagasse based on the optimum conditions of 9.12% clay, 12.57% waste paper, 78.31% proportion of sugarcane bagasse and 5 KN compaction pressure. The produced briquette was found to have a compressive strength of 6.4715 MPa and 0.857 g/min burning rate. The results of the study shows that the experimental values were close to the predicted values with a percentage error of 3.11% for compressive strength and1.79% for burning rate which confirms the validity and adequacy of the predicted models. The article deals with the problem of calculating the volume calendar plan of a paper mill. The presented mathematical model and methods make it possible to schedule paper production orders between several paper machines (PM) to even their loading, devise cutting plans for each winder and arrange the order of their implementation. When forming cutting plans, orders are grouped in accordance with such parameters as grammage, roll diameter, core diameter, product type and number of layers. Deadlines and volumes in customer orders are taken into account. The cutting plans for each winder account for the allowable roll width limits and the maximum number of knives. To find the optimal schedule, a combination of the following criteria is used: minimal trim loss, minimal changes to the knives' setup and smooth transitions by product grades. Solution algorithms are presented that use a combination of the simplex method, the column generation, the branch and bound methods, the greedy algorithm and the local search procedure. We tested the solution approach on real production data from a paper mill in European Russia and obtained the production sequence that better matches deadlines in customer orders compared to the plan devised manually by production planners. • A Goal Programming model to optimize a waste paper recycling network was elaborated. • The model considers objectives related to sustainability, multiple products and periods. • Vehicle routing, different-capacity vehicles and multiple trips are highlights. • The possibility of storing material at the collection points is considered. • The formulation provides relevant solutions to assist decision-makers. Organization and planning of reverse logistics networks make sustainable processes more efficient. Thus, an important sector for connecting the collection and waste paper recycling echelons is the intermediate center. In this study, a Mixed Integer Linear Programming model, which is multi-objective, multi-product, multi-level and multi-period, was developed to optimize the waste paper logistics processes of intermediate centers. The formulation includes the following echelons: collection, considering vehicle routing with different capacities; inventory of non-baling materials; baling sorted waste and inventory of bales; selling bales; disposal of non-recyclable waste. The aims of the model include: maximizing the collected waste; minimizing distances; maximizing both the production and sale of bales, and minimizing costs. According to research carried out in the literature, the developed model is a new proposal and to implement it, the Weighted Goal Programming and Revised Multi-Choice Goal Programming approaches were used to deal with multiple objectives and incorporate uncertainty into the quantity of waste available for collection. To analyze the proposed model, computational tests were executed with instances based on real data from a Brazilian company in the sector. For all performed tests, General Algebraic Modeling System 23.6.5 modeling language and CPLEX 12.2.0.2 solver were used for modeling and optimization. Abstract By way of broadening the use of diverse sustainable bioethanol feedstocks, the potentials of Paper mulberry fruit juice (PMFJ), as a non-food, sugar-based substrate, were evaluated for fuel ethanol production. The suitability of PMFJ was proven, as maximum ethanol concentration (56.4 g/L) and yield (0.39 g/g) were achieved within half a day of the start of fermentation, corresponding to very high ethanol productivity of 4.7 g/L/hr. The established potentials were further optimally maximized through the response surface methodology (RSM). At the optimal temperature of 30 °C, yeast concentration of 0.55 g/L, and pH of 5, ethanol concentration, productivity, and yield obtained were 73.69 g/L, 4.61 g/L/hr, and 0.48 g/g, respectively. Under these ideal conditions, diverse metal salts were afterward screened for their effects on PMFJ fermentation. Based on a two-level fractional factorial design, nutrient addition had no positive impact on ethanol production. Thus, under the optimal process conditions, and without any external nutrient supplementation, bioethanol from PMFJ compared favorably with typical sugar-based energy crops, highlighting its resourcefulness as a high-value biomass resource for fuel ethanol production. In a society where advances and innovations occur on a daily basis, outreach and meaningful engagement with the general public become more challenging. The amount of information produced and repackaged surpasses existing systems in place to ensure truthful and factual engagement with the public, especially with complex matters regarding health science. This perspective paper discusses the value of contextualization and optimization for creating transparent and engaging content. We reflect on the innovative Transformative Storytelling Technique as a new category creating hybrid content to guide the experience of audiences, starting with the case of informal caregivers helping individuals living with neurological conditions. Moreover, we share our perspective on the important considerations for current and future development of highly targeted content using this technique. We include reflexions around the risks and ethical principles needed in the utilization and dissemination of “guided” content for the general public.

A multi-modal search space can be defined as having multiple attraction basins – each basin has a single local optimum which is reached from all points in that basin when greedy local search is used. Optimization in multi-modal search spaces can then be viewed as a two-phase process. The first phase is exploration in which the most promising attraction basin is identified. The second phase is exploitation in which the best solution (i.e. the local optimum) within the previously identified attraction basin is attained. The goal of thresheld convergence is to improve the performance of search techniques during the first phase of exploration. The effectiveness of thresheld convergence has been demonstrated through applications to existing metaheuristics such as particle swarm optimization and differential evolution, and through the development of novel metaheuristics such as minimum population search and leaders and followers.

The integrated industrial control systems require a reliable communication among each part of control systems. The limitation of network topology comprises the low latency of data transmission. The network algorithm topologies are sometimes failed to ensure the faulttolerant network design even if they offer it. Therefore, this works investigates a Node Insertion Algorithm (NIA) and Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) in order to solve the Travelling Salesman Problem (TSP) for network topologies in a communication network. The NP Non deterministic (polynomial time)-hardness based of TSP leads to the impossibility of polynomial time algorithm to solve an exponentially increasing amount of communication addresses. TSP itself is a well-known solution method known in the graph theory which is based on approximation algorithm. Therefore, this work also presents a comparison between the NIA and ACO for 200 nodes of network topologies. The results show that NIA is superior than ACO in terms of resulting ring's cost and computation duration. Three topologies are tested and it is observable that NIA requires only 14.88 seconds to finish the computation in which the resulting ring's length reaches 164019 units. Therefore, the achievement of the NIA can be applied for logical and physical nodes for a reliable connection in an industrial topology network. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Paper mills are among the most polluting industries, responsible for many organic and inorganic compounds emissions. The fibres electro-kinetic features strongly affect the ability to retain fillers since the fillers–fibres interactions are charge induced. The control and the prediction of these parameters would represent a precious aid for process management, allowing the fillers retention enhancement, a lower environmental impact and the paper sheet properties streamlining. The work presented deals with the implementation and training of four artificial neural networks (ANNs) for the prediction of the main electrochemical and physical features of cellulose pulp and paper. First, two ANNs predict the electrochemical parameters. Following, they were applied to predict the paper sheet properties and fillers retention. The neural models implemented showed outstanding prediction performance, with R2 in the order of 0.999 and a low mean error. The results demonstrate how Artificial Neural Networks may be a valuable instrument for paper mill pollutant reduction. Despite their widespread applications in sectors such as pulp and paper, textile, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and biofuel production, laccases encounter challenges related to their activity and stability under varying reaction conditions. This review accumulates data on the complex interplay between laccase characteristics and reaction conditions for maximizing their efficacy in diverse biotechnological processes. Benefits of organic media such as improved substrate selectivity and reaction control, and their risks such as enzyme denaturation and reduced activity are reported. Additionally, the effect of reaction conditions such as pH and temperature on laccase activity and stability are gathered and reported. Sources like Bacillus pumilus, Alcaligenes faecalis, Bacillus clausii, and Bacillus tequilensis SN4 are producing laccases that are both thermo-active and alkali-active. Additionally, changes induced by the presence of various substances within reaction media such as metals, inhibitors, and organic solvents are also reported. Bacillus pumilus and Bacillus licheniformis LS04 produce the most resistant laccases in this case. Finally, the remarkable laccases have been highlighted and the proper laccase source for each industrial application is suggested. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Optimization of alkaline hydrogen peroxide (AHP) pretreatment and enzymatic hydrolysis of wheat straw (WS) was carried out to enhance fermentable sugar yields with the use of glucose and xylose yields from the pretreated WS as responses. In the first step, variables including temperature, hydrogen peroxide concentration and time during pretreatment were detected to have significant effects on the sugar yields. The results indicate that maximal sugar yields could be obtained while the WS was pretreated using 71 g/L hydrogen peroxide solution with 200 g/L of solid loading at 50 °C for 7.6 h. The corresponding cellulose recovery, hemicellulose recovery and lignin removal were 97.5%, 84.3% and 75.0%, respectively. In the second step, enzymatic hydrolysis of the pretreated WS was optimized. The results show that the reaction time, enzyme loading and biomass loading during enzymatic hydrolysis also had significant effects on the sugar yields. The final maximum yields of glucose (552.7 mg/gds (mg/g dry substrate)) and xylose (223.6 mg/gds) could be obtained while enzymatic hydrolysis was carried out at 50 °C for 37.0 h using 10.8 FPU/gds (filter paper activity unit per gram dry substrate) of enzyme loading, 88 g/L of biomass loading and 0.3% (w/v) of Tween-80. The recovery of fibres from waste paper (WP) and deinking sludge (DIS) reduces the stress on nature compared to the collection of virgin pulp for paper production. Moreover, if not recycled, WP and DIS are mainly landfilled and incinerated, being thus responsible for the release of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere. In this context, energy recovery from WP and DIS would contribute to increasing energy independence and improving waste management in the pulp industry. From a broader perspective, it would increase renewable energy generation, supporting the paper industry in reducing fossil fuel consumption and GHGs emissions, in line with the goals of the European Union (EU) Green Deal 2021. For these reasons, in the present study, the combined heat and power generation potentiality of WP–DIS blends through gasification in combination with an internal combustion engine is numerically assessed for the first time. The air gasification process is simulated by applying a restricted chemical equilibrium approach to identify the optimum operating temperature (850 °C) and equivalence ratio (0.2). Electrical and thermal energy generation potentiality, considering WP and DIS production in the EU in 2019, is estimated to be in the ranges of 32,950–35,700 GWh and 52,190–56,100 GWh, respectively. Thus, it can support between 25 and 28% of the electrical and 44–48% of the thermal energy demand of the paper manufacturing sector, reducing the CO2 emission in the range of 24.8–28.9 Gt. Lignin extracted from black liquor in chemical pulp mills can potentially replace fossil carbon feedstocks in fuels and materials, thereby increasing the economic and environmental added values of woody biomass. However, since lignin extraction reduces the electricity generation of the mill, the added value depends on the characteristics of the electricity market in which the mill operates. In this study, a model mill is exposed to two different electricity price profiles: the low and steady prices of south-central Sweden in Year 2019; and the high and volatile prices of the same region in Year 2022. For the model mill, investments in lignin extraction designed to increase pulp production are economically viable and have low levels of sensitivity to electricity price levels and price volatility. The viability of lignin extraction without increased pulp production depends on the relationship between the electricity and lignin prices. With stable electricity prices, or steady mill operation, a rule-of-thumb holds that for lignin extraction to be viable, the lignin price (€/t) must be 1.8-times the average electricity price (€/MWh) plus 40 €/t for the supply of chemicals. With volatile electricity prices and flexible operation of the recovery boiler, the mill can shift the loss in electricity sales to low-price hours, thereby saving 15–70 % of the operational costs of lignin extraction, as compared to steady operation. This effect can be further enhanced by increasing the capacity of the lignin extraction process or extending the size of the black liquor storage tank. The proposed flexibility measures allow the market-integrated pulp mill to export lignin to replace fossil carbon supplies in other sectors, while supporting the electricity system during hours with high demand and low supply.

Due to the huge amounts of wastewater discharge and the high pollution loads in papermaking industry, many greenhouse gases (GHG) are emitted in the papermaking wastewater treatment process. The wastewater dissolved oxygen (DO) control has been considered as the most cost-effective control solution for GHG reduction in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). However, the competition between contaminant removal efficiency and GHG reduction hinders the drastic reduction of GHG emissions from WWTP. In this study, based on the established integrated GHG emission model, explicitly considering the total GHG reduction targets on the premise of effluent compliance, an intelligent control scheme has been developed for an activated sludge process in a paper mill. Regarding DO as the controlled variable, the proposed hierarchical optimal proportional-integral (HOPI) control scheme was established consisting of three layers: 1) Layer 1 for the effluent quality estimation, 2) Layer 2 for the optimal DO set point determined by genetic algorithm with the influent variations to obey discharging norms and reduce GHG emissions, 3) Layer 3 for the DO tracking proportional integral (PI) control with the controller parameters adjusted by the back propagation neural network to track the dynamically optimized DO set points. The simulation results showed that, compared with the open-loop (OL) operation (averaged aeration, 10/h), the proposed HOPI control (averaged aeration, 7.9/h) reduced the GHG emissions by 12.54% under the premise of discharging norms, which was mainly attributed to the reduction of the aeration electricity consumption. In contrast, the PI control (averaged aeration, 12.9/h) increased the GHG emissions by 7.48% compared with the OL operation. Hyper-heuristics have arisen as methods that increase the generality of existing solvers. They have proven helpful for dealing with complex problems, particularly those related to combinatorial optimization. Their recent growth in popularity has increased the daily amount of text in the related literature. This information is primarily unstructured, mainly text that traditional computer data systems cannot process. Traditional systematic literature review studies exhibit multiple limitations, including high time consumption, lack of replicability, and subjectivity of the results. For this reason, text mining has become essential for researchers in recent years. Therefore, efficient text mining techniques are needed to extract meaningful information, patterns, and relationships. This study adopts a literature review of 963 journal and conference papers on hyper-heuristic-related works. We first describe the essential text mining techniques, including text preprocessing, word clouds, clustering, and frequent association rule learning in hyper-heuristic publications. With that information, we implement visualization tools to understand the most frequent relations and topics in the hyper-heuristic domain. The main findings highlight the most dominant topics in the literature. We use text mining analysis to find widespread manifestations, representing the significance of the different areas of hyper-heuristics. Furthermore, we apply clustering to provide seven categories showing the associations between the topics related to hyper-heuristic literature. The vast amount of data available that we find opens up a new opportunity for researchers to analyze the status of hyper-heuristics and help create strategic plans regarding the scope of hyper-heuristics. Lastly, we remark that future work will address the limitations of collecting information from multiple data sources and analyze book chapters related to hyper-heuristics. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes a smart system for managing the operations of grid-connected charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) that use photovoltaic (PV) sources. This system consists of a mobile application for EV drivers to make charging reservations, an algorithm to optimize the charging schedule, and a remote execution module of charging operations based on the open charge point protocol (OCPP). The optimal charging schedule was obtained by solving a binary integer programming problem. The merits of our solution are illustrated by simulating different charging demand scenarios. With rising concern for environmental protection, the use of ozone has been increasingly studied in the pulp and paper industry. Feasible models for efficient quality prediction and process control are in high industrial demand. In this study, the reaction kinetics of delignification and viscosity during the ozone bleaching process (OBP) of low-consistency hardwood pulp (LCHP) are explored using exponential and zero-order response models, respectively. The effects of ozone dose, reaction temperature, reaction time, and pH on the changes in residual lignin content and pulp viscosity were analyzed. The corresponding kinetic parameters, such as the reaction order, rate constant (k), and activation energy (E), were also obtained. The models suggest that temperature should be one of the most significant factors affecting the effectiveness of the OBP system. The strategy to improve the OBP selectivity is based on reducing the reaction temperature while increasing the ozone concentration and pH in the reaction system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

After emergencies occur, decision-makers can reference historical cases with similar causes to take similar emergency response measures. However, information about emergencies is usually recorded and stored in textual form, and it is difficult for decision-makers to obtain effective information from large amounts of textual data and make decisions that balance various factors. To address these issues, this paper presents an emergency assisted decision-making model based on a knowledge graph and many-objective optimization. First, we preprocess the information by extracting entities to construct a knowledge graph of emergencies to make the event information more structured and easier to use. A knowledge graph is also used to narrow the range of matching historical events. Second, we construct a many-objective model with four objectives: similarity, diversity, processing time, and resource cost. Finally, combining the model characteristics, we design genetic operations for duplicate location matching and substitution removal strategies to obtain the nonrepetitive VaEA algorithm. This algorithm is used to optimize the model and generate a list of reference cases in the reduced matching range to provide rescue strategy suggestions for the current situation. The experimental results show that the algorithm outperforms the comparison algorithms under all four evaluation metrics. This indicates that the method in this paper can match the higher-quality historical emergency solutions applicable to the current decision-making situation in the case base and provide support for decision-makers to respond reasonably in emergencies. This paper presents a current literature review (from the years 2017–2022) on issues related to the application of power system stabilizers (PSSs) for damping electromechanical swings in power systems (PSs). After the initial selection of papers found in the databases used, over 600 publications were qualified for this review, of which 216 were subjected to detailed analysis. In the review, issues related to the following problems are described: applications of classic PSSs, applications of new stabilizer structures based on new algorithms (including artificial intelligence), development of new methods for tuning PSSs, and operation of PSSs in PSs with high power generation by renewable sources. Describing individual papers, the research methods used by the authors (simulations, measurement methods, and a combination of both) are specified, attention is paid to the waveforms presented in the papers, and reference is made to the types of PSs in which PSSs (large multimachine, reflecting real systems, smaller standard multimachine New-England type, and simplest single-machine) operate. The tables contain detailed comments on the selected papers. The final part of the review presents general comments on the analyzed papers and guidelines for future PS stability studies. This paper presents a comprehensive review of optimization practices in the corrugated board industry, which has recently experienced significant interest in using optimization methodologies driven by sustainable demands and increasing computational capabilities. The authors cover different review perspectives, including historical context, manufacturing applications, design optimization, and numerical optimization algorithms used. The main findings of this study indicate that the corrugated board industry has experienced a shift from trial-and-error and expert-driven approaches to data-centric strategies, particularly since the beginning of the 21st century. Interestingly, the industry has also adopted Multi-Disciplinary Optimization techniques from other fields, which demonstrates the importance of knowledge convergence across sectors. However, due to the complex nature of corrugated boards—including materials, design, and manufacturing processes—there is still much research to be done in this area. This work provides guidance for future research directions and encourages innovation and improvement in corrugated board optimization practices. Over the past decade, solving complex optimization problems with metaheuristic algorithms has attracted many experts and researchers. Nature has always been a model for humans to draw the best mechanisms and the best engineering out of it and use it to solve their problems. The concept of optimization is evident in several natural processes, such as the evolution of species, the behavior of social groups, the immune system, and the search strategies of various animal populations. For this purpose, the use of nature-inspired optimization algorithms is increasingly being developed to solve various scientific and engineering problems due to their simplicity and flexibility. Anything in a particular situation can solve a significant problem for human society. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the metaheuristic algorithms and classifications in this field and offers a novel classification based on the features of these algorithms. High theoretical energy density endows lithium–sulfur batteries to be a promising candidate of the secondary batteries. Numerous studies have been implemented relying on exploring efficient host materials or separator modifying layers to solve the problematic shuttling and insufficient conversion of soluble polysulfides, whereas few studies have focused on the modification of the cathode collector. Herein, a high-performance sulfur cathode is manufactured with carbon paper/MnO2 as the cathode collector and liquid lithium polysulfides as the electrode material. The interface of carbon paper/MnO2 is proposed to afford fast electronic transport, strong chemical adsorption, and effective electrocatalysis to confine the diffusion of lithium polysulfides and facilitate their conversion during the charge/discharge process. More importantly, with no conductive additives and binders assisting, the gravimetric energy density of the sulfur cathode could be largely improved. Specifically, lithium–sulfur batteries using carbon paper/MnO2 as a cathode collector could stably circulate for 200 cycles at 0.2 C with a capacity of 664 mAh g−1, which is higher than that of carbon paper as a cathode collector (486 mAh g−1). This work may provide a new perspective to enhance the electrochemical performance of lithium–sulfur batteries by optimizing the cathode collector.

In this paper, a new torque sharing function control strategy is proposed to reduce the torque ripple. The traditional torque ripple methods, such as exponential and linear torque allocation strategies, the torque generation capacity of each phase and the power limitation of the power converter is not taken into account, in this paper, the communication region is divided into three intervals by establishing a new partitioning standard. According to the re-established reference function of torque generation, the torque deviation caused by phase current tracking error is compensated according to the torque generation capacity. Both optimization of torque ripple suppression and copper loss minimization are taken into consideration in this paper. To verify the validity and performances of the proposed TSF methods, simulations and experiments have been implemented in a 12/8 structure Switched Reluctance Motor prototype. This method can be applied to other switched reluctance motors with different topologies. Result shows lower current tracking error and better performance of torque ripple minimization compared with the conventional two-interval compensation method. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes an electric vehicle routing problem, considers the states of charging stations and suggests solution strategies. The charging of electric vehicles is a main issue in the field of electric vehicle routing. There are many studies that find the locations of charging stations, recharging functions for the batteries of vehicles, and so on. However, the state of charging stations significantly affects the routes of electric vehicles, which is not much explored. The states may include open or closed charging stations, occupied or empty charging slots, and so on. This paper investigates how the states of charging stations are estimated and how routing strategies are determined. We formulate a mixed integer programming model and suggest how to solve the problem with an exact method. Numerical examples provide the optimal routing strategies of electric vehicles for the changing environments regarding the states of charging stations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses on evaluating the roughness of heterogeneous surfaces, aiming to interpret data effectively for thorough assessment. Previous research highlights the significant impact of surface roughness on final coatings. Beam-cutting machining generates surfaces with position-dependent roughness parameter changes. However, there is inconsistency in the methods for investigating roughness in such surfaces, leading to the loss of crucial information and potentially inaccurate results. This could result in flawed coating preparation and subsequent defects. This paper proposes a suitable evaluation method involving an optical 3D profilometer and a stabilizing support system for reliable measurements. It provides a detailed description of the materials and methods used. The objective is to establish a more consistent and accurate approach to assessing roughness for coating preparation. Technical applications demonstrate up-to-fivefold fluctuations in surface topography parameters, as illustrated in this manuscript. Overall, this paper seeks to address these challenges and provide a robust framework for evaluating roughness in heterogeneous surfaces, thereby enhancing surface coating preparation processes.
