1. Recovering local structure information from high‐pressure total scattering experiments

Abstract: A method for subtracting the pairwise correlations of a pressure-transmitting medium from neutron pair distribution functions obtained under hydrostatic compression is presented and applied to Ni, MgO and α-quartz., High pressure is a powerful thermodynamic tool for exploring the structure and the phase behaviour of the crystalline state, and is now widely used in conventional crystallographic measurements. High-pressure local structure measurements using neutron diffraction have, thus far, been limited by the presence of a strongly scattering, perdeuterated, pressure-transmitting medium (PTM), the signal from which contaminates the resulting pair distribution functions (PDFs). Here, a method is reported for subtracting the pairwise correlations of the commonly used 4:1 methanol:ethanol PTM from neutron PDFs obtained under hydrostatic compression. The method applies a molecular-dynamics-informed empirical correction and a non-negative matrix factorization algorithm to recover the PDF of the pure sample. Proof of principle is demonstrated, producing corrected high-pressure PDFs of simple crystalline materials, Ni and MgO, and benchmarking these against simulated data from the average structure. Finally, the first local structure determination of α-quartz under hydrostatic pressure is presented, extracting compression behaviour of the real-space structure.

Abstract: In this paper, we propose to study the asymptotic properties of some conditional functional parameters, such as the distribution function, the density, and the hazard function, for an explanatory variable with values in a Hilbert space (infinite dimension) and a response variable real in a quasi-associated dependency framework. We consider the non parametric estimation of the conditional distribution function by the kernel method in the presence of the quasi-associated dependence, and we establish under general hypotheses the almost complete convergence with speed of the estimator built in the associated case. The estimation of the conditional hazard function will be conducted by utilizing the two outcomes of the conditional distribution function and the conditional density. We establish the asymptotic normality of the kernel estimator as the conditional risk function of a properly normalized functional. We explicitly give the asymptotic variance. Simulation studies were conducted to investigate the behavior of the asymptotic property in the context of finite sample data. All the statistical analyses were performed using R software. 3. Effect of Slurry Concentration on the Ceramic Ball Grinding Characteristics of Magnetite.

Abstract: Ceramic grinding, which in this paper is defined as a method of using ceramic materials as grinding media, is favored by many processing plants as an emerging high-efficiency and energy-saving grinding method. This paper investigates the effect of slurry mass concentration on the grinding characteristics of magnetite by taking the feed of the secondary ball mill for processing magnetite as the research object. The study results show that the slurry mass concentration significantly affects the ceramic ball grinding characteristics of magnetite, especially for coarse particles. When the grinding concentration is higher than 50%, the breakage rate of magnetite plummets to 1/3 of the value at low mass concentrations. The standard deviation of the breakage rate relative to the concentration gradually decreases as the feed size falls, indicating that the coarser the feed size, the more sensitive the ceramic ball grinding is to the concentration, and thus industrial secondary ceramic ball mills need to avoid grinding under high-quality concentrations. The change in the consistency parameter of distribution function and zero-order output characteristics signals a radical variation in the grinding characteristics of magnetite using the ceramic ball grinding method compared to conventional grinding. Because the ceramic ball grinding method can greatly reduce energy consumption while lowering the chance of overgrinding, this grinding method deserves more attention as the world works to reach carbon neutrality and emissions peak. Abstract: Likelihood function has significant advantages in the fields of statistical inference. Based on this theory, Yager proposed a soft likelihood function to make it more widely used. However, Yager's method can only deal with probabilities expressed by crisp values, and has strict restrictions on the form of data. Due to human subjectivity and lack of effective information, it is inevitable that data uncertainty will be involved. In order to deal with the uncertain data more flexibly and intuitively and solve the complex problems faced in real-world applications, a generalized soft likelihood function in combining multi-source belief distribution functions is proposed in this paper. Different from other existing methods, this paper uses a distribution function to represent uncertain information, which can retain more original information and improve the credibility of the results. The expectation and variance are used to rank the obtained evidences, and the evidence that contributes more to the results is ranked higher. Finally, the reliable likelihood results are obtained. The proposed method extends the method of Yager and can work well in more uncertain environment. Abstract: This paper suggests new estimators for cumulative distribution function (CDF) using L ranked set sampling (LRSS) and robust extreme ranked set sampling (RERSS) methods. The proposed estimators are deduced based on maximum likelihood estimation method and its asymptotic properties are theoretically investigated. Comparison study has been made to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed estimators. It is found that when the data contain outliers, the proposed estimators are less sensitive and have a satisfied behavior compared to their analog in ranked set sampling as the population CDF is far away from the boundaries. Motivated by this efficiency gain, we provided new estimators for system reliability R = P (Y > X) using LRSS and RERSS. Through a Monte Carlo simulation study, the performance of the introduced reliability estimators is also examined. Abstract: This article deals with the analysis of the multi-cell association setup, and it exploits the possibility of enhancing coverage in the envisioned sixth generation (6G) large-scale cellular networks. Specifically, we propose a simple, effective approach for finding a closed-form solution to the coverage probability of a given user in a multi-cell association regime of downlink multiple-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In particular, a Rayleigh fading channel is considered, wherein the transmitter has only the knowledge of the second-order statistics of the channel. The proposed work uses an indefinite quadratic formulation method and thereby investigates the effect of cell association in a correlated downlink broadcast channel with co-channel interference, additive white noise, and multiple transceiver antenna elements. In the results, we show that a predefined signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) threshold dictates an effective multi-cell association setup, and we identify the region in which a multi-cell association performs better that a single association-based network. 8. AdaBoost model-based rural governance co-integration and sharing mechanism

Abstract: In this paper, we first study the implementation process of the AdaBoost model, initialize the weight distribution of training samples so that each sample weight is equal, then generate weak classifiers and calculate the minimum weighted error rate corresponding to each weak classifier, and then linearly combine the basic classifiers into strong classifiers by using weighted summation. Then the basic classifier weighting parameter calculation formula is improved by combining the characteristics of the logistics distribution function. Finally, the algorithm is used to analyze the rural governance willingness of river country residents, as well as to analyze the rural governance needs of rural residents at three levels: living conditions, public health and service facilities, to identify the types of rural governance, and to explore the rural governance patterns of different types of farm households. At the level of living conditions, farmers who wish to improve cooking fuel in 54 households, heating conditions in 61 households, bathing conditions in 40 households and family toilets in 53 households account for 43%, 49%, 32% and 42%, respectively. A total of 80 farming households, accounting for 29.41% of the research farming households, were optimized and upgraded, including 66 households in the key development area and 14 households in the production and living security area, accounting for 82.5% and 17.5% of the optimized and upgraded type, respectively. The research method of this paper has important references and reference significance for the construction of rural governance.

Abstract: The objective of the current paper is to evaluate Lebanon's wind energy generation potential as an alternative solution to the electricity supply to households and to enhance sustainable technological development. Firstly, the paper aims to investigate the appropriateness of 44 distribution function models for the evaluation of wind speed characteristics and compared them with popular models at 12 locations in Lebanon for the first time. The results showed that Wakeby and Beta distribution functions gave the best fit to the actual data for most locations. Secondly, the techno-economic and environmental feasibility assessment for 10MW grid-connected wind farms was developed based on variations in financial parameters using RETScreen Experts software. The findings demonstrate that the proposed power plant is both technically and financially feasible. It was found that Ain ed Dabaa is the most viable location for the installation of a wind farm.

Abstract: Property prices have surged recently, mainly due to limited real estate supply amid high demand supported by a large monetary base. This has driven up rental prices, especially in major cities compared to their peripheries. This manuscript examines rental prices in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Pilsen, and České Budějovice from March to October 2023. It uses distribution functions, correlation coefficients, contour heat maps, and parameterized regression to define a probability price interval for office properties, identify a positive correlation between area and rental prices, and develop an algorithm for setting appropriate rental prices. The findings are useful for practitioners, real estate agents, and government institutions, though they are closely linked to macroeconomic variables. Future potential options are discussed. 13. FPFH Revisited: Histogram Resolutions, Improved Features, and Novel Representation

Abstract: 3D local descriptors are essential for many computer vision-related tasks: point cloud registration, object recognition, etc. The first descriptors appeared decades ago, but new methods are still emerging today. To solve the above mentioned problems efficiently, we need robust and distinctive descriptors that are invariant to translation, rotation and normal orientation. In this paper, we revisit and analyze the well-known hand-crafted Fast Point Feature Histogram (FPFH) and the three geometric features underlying the FPFH. Modifications to the geometric features are proposed to increase the descriptiveness and improve robustness against inconsistent normal orientation. Thus, normal orientation methods with high computational complexity can be omitted and the performance of the descriptor is nearly doubled. We also propose a novel approach to representing descriptors: using cumulative distribution functions (CDF) instead of histograms. We mathematically analyze the point-pair features and their CDFs, focusing on a special case where two planes intersect. We use this knowledge to approximate functions on real point cloud data sets in the general case. CDFs can be represented by fitted parameters. By storing these parameters, which can be understood as a form of compression, the storage requirements can be reduced while maintaining the descriptiveness.

Abstract: Opial's inequality and its ramifications play an important role in the theory of differential and difference equations. A sharp unifying generalization of Opial's inequality is presented that contains both its continuous and discrete versions. This generalization, based on distribution functions, is extended to the case of derivatives of arbitrary order. This extension optimizes and improves the constant given in the literature. The special case of derivatives of second order is studied in more detail. Two closely related Opial inequalities with a weight function are presented as well. Abstract: A significant part of the research on the problems of quantization of random variables is devoted to practical aspects of optimal quantization in the sense of filling in information. For these purposes, certain quantitative characteristics of quantized random variables are used, such as: mathematical expectation, variance and mean square deviation. At the same time, to determine the quantitative characteristics of quantized random variables, as a rule, well-known parametric distributions are used: uniform, exponential, normal and others. In real situations, it is not possible to identify the initial parametric distribution based on the available statistical information. In this paper, a nonparametric model is proposed for determining such numerical characteristics of a quantized random variable as the highest initial moments. The mathematical formalization of the problem of estimating the higher initial moments of a quantized random variable in the conditions of incomplete data represented by small samples of a quantized random variable is performed in the form of an optimization model of a certain integral of a piecewise continuous function satisfying certain conditions. The final estimates of the highest initial moments of the quantized random variable are found as extreme (lower and upper) estimates of a certain integral on a set of distribution functions with given moments equal to the sample moments of the quantized random variable. A model of the higher initial moments of a quantized random variable is presented in the form of a definite integral of a piecewise continuous function; in the general case, the problem of finding extreme (lower and upper) estimates of the higher initial moments of a quantized random variable on a set of distribution functions with given moments is solved. Examples of finding higher initial moments and optimal quantization of a random variable are given. The obtained results can be used by specialists in evaluating and optimizing the quantization of various information presented by random signals.

17. Knowable Moments in Stochastics: Knowing Their Advantages.

Abstract: Knowable moments, abbreviated as K-moments, are redefined as expectations of maxima or minima of a number of stochastic variables that are a sample of the variable of interest. The new definition enables applicability of the concept to any type of variable, continuous or discrete, and generalization for transformations thereof. While K-moments share some characteristics with classical and other moments, as well as with order statistics, they also have some unique features, which make them useful in relevant applications. These include the fact that they are knowable, i.e., reliably estimated from a sample for high orders. Moreover, unlike other moment types, K-moment values can be assigned values of distribution function by making optimal use of the entire dataset. In addition, K-moments offer the unique advantage of considering the estimation bias when the data are not an independent sample but a time series from a process with dependence. Both for samples and time series, the K-moment concept offers a strategy of model fitting, including its visualization, that is not shared with other methods. Abstract: A detailed statistical description of the evolution of supersaturated-by-gas solution at degassing has been presented on the basis of finding the time-dependent distribution in radii of overcritical gas bubbles. The influence of solution viscosity and capillarity via internal pressure in the bubbles on this distribution has been considered until the moment when the gas supersaturation drops due to depletion and stops nucleation of new overcritical gas bubbles. This study is based on our previous results for the nonstationary growth rates of overcritical bubbles depending on gas supersaturation, diffusivity and solubility in solution, solution viscosity, and surface tension on bubble surface. Other important factors are linked with the initial rate of homogeneous gas bubble nucleation and coupling between diffusivity and viscosity in the solution. Here, we numerically studied how all these factors affect the time-dependent distribution function of overcritical bubbles in their radii, maximal and mean bubble radii, and the time-dependent swelling ratio of a supersaturated-by-gas solution in a wide range of solution viscosities. 20. Determining the most appropriate probability distribution function for meteorological drought indices in Urmia Lake Basin, Iran.

Abstract: Normalization is believed to be one of the most important parts of numerical computation in discrete mathematics. This process aims to transform a wide numerical range into a narrower one. Hence, in a number of fields of study, numerous distribution functions (DF) have been extended based on their applications, one of which is drought calculation. In this research, annual drought was calculated via standard precipitation index (SPI) and China Z Index (CZI) through seven three-parametric DFs (Pearson 5, Weibull, Pearson 3 (gamma), log Pearson, Fréchet, log-logistic, and fatigue life) in order to determine the most appropriate one for each index in Urmia Lake Basin. To this end, the results of both SPI and CZI, with DFs and without them, were compared with statistical analyzers (RMSE, ME, R2, and pearson correlation). The results indicated that Weibull-CZI and Pearson 5-SPI had the highest correlation with the normal ones. Therefore, they could be used as the best DFs for these drought indices in this basin. Abstract: The double exponential WJ distribution has been shown to competently describe extreme events and critical phenomena, while the Gaussian function has celebrated rich applications in many other fields. Here we present the analysis that the WJ distribution may be properly treated as an extended Gaussian function. Based on the Taylor expansion, we propose three methods to formulate the WJ distribution in the form of Gaussian functions, with Method I and Method III being accurate and self-consistent, and elaborate the relationship among the parameters of the functions. Moreover, we derive the parameter scaling formula of the WJ distribution to express a general Gaussian function, with the work illustrated by a classical case of extreme events and critical phenomena and application to topical medical image processing to prove the effectiveness of the WJ distribution rather than the Gaussian function. Our results sturdily advocate that the WJ distribution can elegantly represent a Gaussian function of arbitrary parameters, whereas the latter usually is not able to satisfactorily describe the former except for specific parameter sets. Thus, it is conclusive that the WJ distribution offers applicability in extreme events and critical phenomena as well as processes describable by the Gaussian function, namely, implying plausibly a unifying approach to the pertinent data processing of those quite distinct areas and establishing a link between relevant extreme value theories and Gaussian processes. Abstract: Rutting deformation is one of the most prominent diseases in asphalt pavement’s early damage. In this paper, it analyzes the relation and their distribution law between Marshall stability and the physical and mechanical indices of asphalt mixtures based upon a correlation analysis and statistical principles, which is to find the reasonable range of rutting performance design parameters of asphalt pavement. The results showed that the asphalt mixture’s stability increased with the increase in bulk volume relative density and asphalt saturation, but decreased with the increase in the percent of air-voids and the voids in the mineral aggregate. The optimal fitting function of bulk volume relative density and asphalt saturation for AC-13 asphalt mixture follows a Weibull distribution, that of Marshall stability and air-voids follows a Gamma distribution, and that of percent voids in the mineral aggregate and flow value follows a Lognormal distribution. For a GAM-16 asphalt mixture, the optimal fitting function of bulk volume relative density and Marshall stability follows the Weibull distribution, the optimal fitting function of air-voids follows a Gamma distribution, that of flow value and percent voids in the mineral aggregate follows a Lognormal distribution, and asphalt saturation follows a Normal distribution. It is recommended that AC-13 asphalt mixtures’bulk volume relative density ranges from 2.27～2.38 g·cm3, the air-voids ranges from 3.4～6.0%, and GAM-16 asphalt mixtures’bulk volume relative density ranges from 2.29～2.37 g·cm3, the voids in mineral aggregate ranges from 17～18.17%, the asphalt saturation ranges from 75～82.13%, which can provide a reference for in-depth understanding of the deformation characteristics and construction of highways’ pavement in similar areas.

Abstract: In this paper, we demonstrate the application of a generalised fully Lagrangian approach to the simulation of polydisperse gas-evaporating droplet flows. The paper focuses on the proposed methodology for modelling the dispersed phase, droplets, in both steady and transient cases. To account for polydispersity, the set of Lagrangian variables is extended to include the droplet size, and the droplet size distribution function is introduced to the droplet parameter set. According to the Lagrangian approach, all the droplet parameters, including the distribution function, are found along the droplet trajectories. An interpolation scheme to convert droplet parameter fields from a Lagrangian to an Eulerian framework for visualising droplet distribution is proposed. The developed methodology was applied to simple 1D and 2D stationary cases for verification, after which it was incorporated into OpenFOAM to simulate steady and periodic flows around a cylinder. In the case of a steady flow, a region devoid of droplets is formed behind the cylinder. From the droplet distribution plots, it was observed that small and medium sized droplets reach a region near to the axis of the symmetry of the flow. In the case of periodic flow, the analysis of droplet distribution is based on instantaneous pictures of the droplet parameters rather than their values along droplet trajectories. In this flow, strongly influenced by vortices, a strong droplet segregation is shown; at various locations one can see a full droplet size spectrum, only small or large droplets, and/or droplets from a narrow size interval. In all cases, the effect of the evaporation is to decrease the maximum value of the droplet distribution function shifted towards smaller-sized droplets.

Abstract: This article presents a methodological approach to modeling the processes of changing the dispersed composition of solid phase particles, such as granulation, crystallization, pyrolysis, and others. Granulation is considered as a complex process consisting of simpler (elementary) processes such as continuous particle growth, agglomeration, crushing and abrasion. All these elementary processes, which are also complex in themselves, usually participate in the formation of the dispersed composition of particles and proceed simultaneously with the predominance of one process or another, depending on the method of its organization and the physicochemical properties of substances. A quantitative description of the evolution of the dispersed composition of the solid phase in technological processes in which the particle size does not remain constant is proposed. Considering the stochastic nature of elementary mass transfer events in individual particles, the methods of the theory of probability are applied. The analysis of the change in the dispersed composition is based on the balanced equation of the particle mass distribution function. The equation accounts for all possible physical mechanisms that effect changes in particle size during chemical and technological processes. Examples of solutions to this equation for specific processes of practical importance are provided. The obtained analytical solutions are of independent interest and are in good agreement with the experimental data, which indicates the adequacy of the proposed approach. These solutions can also be used to analyze similar processes. The effectiveness has been confirmed during the analysis and calculation of the processes of granulation of various solutions and disposal of oil-containing waste to obtain a granular mineral additive. Abstract: Anti-sliding piles play a key role in slope stabilization. This study explored the distributions of earth pressure and soil resistance acting on full buried single-row anti-sliding piles installed in loess slopes. Two groups of in-situ model tests were carried out at a loess slope in northern Shaanxi, China, to observe the load transmission process between the loess and piles. Numerical simulations were used for auxiliary analysis. The in situ testing showed that the model piles failed by fracture damage. The distribution curve of earth pressure was parabolic, while that of soil resistance was shaped like an inverted trapezoid. The simulations showed similar distributions, illustrating that earth pressures have similar distributions under various embedded conditions and are related to the slip bed material and embedded depth, and soil resistance. Combining the results of the in situ tests and simulations, the axes of symmetry were predominately located at 1/3 of the load-bearing segment. The resultant force of earth pressure was located within the range of 9/16 to 3/5 of the load-bearing segment, while that of soil resistance was located at 3/10 to 2/5. These results demonstrate the distributions of earth pressure and soil resistance acting on full buried single-row anti-sliding piles installed in loess slopes that have a potential sliding surface. Specifically, we propose a simple, effective approach for finding a closed-form solution to the coverage probability of a given user in a multi-cell association regime of downlink multiple-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) systems. In particular, a Rayleigh fading channel is considered, wherein the transmitter has only the knowledge of the second-order statistics of the channel. The proposed work uses an indefinite quadratic formulation method and thereby investigates the effect of cell association in a correlated downlink broadcast channel with co-channel interference, additive white noise, and multiple transceiver antenna elements. In the results, we show that a predefined signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) threshold dictates an effective multi-cell association setup, and we identify the region in which a multi-cell association performs better that a single association-based network. The conditions of validity of the kinetic description for non-relativistic magnetized and gravitationally-bound plasmas of this type are discussed. A classification of the possible collisionless plasma regimes which can arise in these systems is proposed, which can apply to accretion discs around both stellar-mass compact objects and galactic-center black holes. Two different classifications are determined, which are referred to respectively as energy-based and magnetic field-based classifications. Different regimes are pointed out for each plasma species, depending both on the relative magnitudes of kinetic and potential energies and the magnitude of the magnetic field. Abstract: In this paper, a phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann model for ternary fluid flows is proposed, where the conservative Allen-Cahn equation for ternary fluids is employed to track the interface of fluids. A time derivative term is introduced to the LB equation for the conservative Allen-Cahn equation and a forcing distribution function is used to the LB equation for the Navier-Stokes equations. The computational accuracy and capability of this proposed model are verified by benchmark cases related to stationary droplets, spreading of a liquid lens, and phase separation of a ternary mixture fluid. Moreover, a wetting boundary scheme based on the framework of the lattice Boltzmann method applicable to ternary fluid flows is developed. This model performs well in eliminating the undesired numerical artifact after considering the wettability effect. Typical wettability problems are simulated to verify the applicability of the wetting boundary scheme, including the spreading of binary droplets and compound droplets on the surface. The numerical results of static contact angles and spreading length show a good fit of the data to the theoretical results within the scope of permissible error. Furthermore, the reliability of this wetting boundary condition for the dynamic case is verified by modelling the motion of the compound droplets subjected to the shear flow on the substrate. This boundary scheme performs well for the motion of ternary fluids with a small and large density ratio. In conclusion, the phase-field-based lattice Boltzmann model for ternary fluid flows considering the wetting effect has good applicability for modelling the ternary fluid flows at a density ratio of 1000.

Abstract: The traditional sky screen has been mainly used to detect the projectile’s information, but it mainly uses the detection environment with natural light as a background. As the natural environmental illumination changes with the time of a day, the environmental illumination can significantly change. When the environment illumination is lower than 1,500 lx, the detection ability of the traditional sky screen is extremely low, and accurate detection cannot be achieved. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a method of using a high-power near-infrared line laser to form a laser detection plane as a background light source, considering that the line laser divergent plane coincides with the detection screen plane to realize the near-infrared laser detection screen, and presents the parameter design and calculation analysis of the receiving optical path. The proposed method considers the geometric structure of the near-infrared laser detection screen and the spatial position of a projectile. A laser reflection characteristics calculation model is constructed using a bidirectional reflection distribution function, and the calculation function of the total spectral irradiance of the projectile’s reflection laser is derived. By combining the optical, structural parameters and the spectral irradiance of the projectile reflection laser, the theoretical calculation function of the detection ability is derived based on the number of electrons that come from the projectile’s surface reflection laser. The experimental verification shows that the designed active laser detection screen instrument can solve the problem of detection and testing of a projectile’s parameter under the condition of low environmental illumination.

As a result, they inevitably undergo secular evolution (`relaxation') causing their mean distribution function (DF) to evolve on long timescales. On one hand, this long-term evolution may be interpreted as driven by the accumulation of local deflections along each star's mean field trajectory -- so-called `non-resonant relaxation'. On the other hand, it can be thought of as driven by non-local, collectively dressed and resonant couplings between stellar orbits, a process termed `resonant relaxation'. In this paper we consider a model globular cluster represented by a spherical, isotropic isochrone DF, and compare in detail the predictions of both resonant and non-resonant relaxation theories against tailored direct $N$-body simulations. In the space of orbital actions (namely the radial action and total angular momentum), we find that both resonant and non-resonant theories predict the correct morphology for the secular evolution of the cluster's DF, although non-resonant theory over-estimates the amplitude of the relaxation rate by a factor ${\sim 2}$. We conclude that the secular relaxation of hot isotropic spherical clusters is not dominated by collectively amplified large-scale potential fluctuations, despite the existence of a strong ${\ell = 1}$ damped mode. Instead, collective amplification affects relaxation only marginally even on the largest scales. Abstract: Ion holes refer to the phase-space structures where the trapped ion density is lower at the center than at the rim. These structures are commonly observed in collisionless plasmas, such as the Earth’s magnetosphere. This paper investigates the role of multiple parameters in the generation and structure of ion holes. We find that the ion-to-electron temperature ratio and the background plasma distribution function of the species play a pivotal role in determining the physical plausibility of ion holes. It is found that the range of width and amplitude that defines the existence of ion holes splits into two separate domains as the ion temperature exceeds that of the electrons. Additionally, the present study reveals that the ion holes formed in a plasma with ion temperature higher than that of the electrons have a hump at its center.

Abstract: This paper addresses the problem of estimation of the population distribution function in the presence of non response which may be useful for data analysis in socio-economic surveys. We have proposed some enhanced difference and ratio type estimators using the information on two auxiliary variables in two well defined situations of non response. We derive the expressions of bias and mean square error of the proposed estimators to the first order approximation. In the empirical study it has been shown that the proposed estimators perform better than other estimators which are constructed using one auxiliary variable. A simulation study is also carried out in support of this work.

Abstract: This paper presents a topology optimization method for flow channel design using the lattice kinetic scheme (LKS). LKS is a numerical scheme merging the lattice Boltzmann method with the kinetic scheme for solving the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. In the lattice Boltzmann method, the discrete distribution functions for every grid in the analysis domain need to be stored to compute the flow field, while in the LKS, only the flow velocities and the densities are stored, and thus requiring less storage. Moreover, in the LKS, the macroscopic boundary conditions in terms of the velocity and the pressure can be imposed directly rather than considering the bounce-back boundary condition against the distribution function. In this study, the optimization is performed based on the gradient of the objective functional with respect to the design variables and the design sensitivity is computed by the adjoint variable method. Both the forward and the adjoint problems are solved using the LKS. The validity of the design sensitivity is verified by comparing it with the finite difference approximation of objective functional. Numerical examples of solving two-dimensional flow channel design problems are presented to demonstrate the proposed method.

Abstract: Consider a stochastic process that lives on n-semiaxes emanating from a common origin. On each semiaxis it behaves as a Brownian motion and at the origin it chooses a semiaxis randomly. In this paper we study the first hitting time of the process. We derive the Laplace transform of the first hitting time, and provide the explicit expressions for its density and distribution functions. Numerical examples are presented to illustrate the application of our results.

Abstract: In this paper we address the analytical solution of the non-resonant interaction between two identical V-type three-level atoms passing consecutively through a single-mode cavity field in the presence of intensity-dependent coupling . By considering an identical initial condition for both atoms and an initial coherent field, we find the analytical solution of the state vector of the entire atom–field system. Accordingly, we could carefully investigate the influence of various parameters in the circumstances of the interacting system on different physical quantities such as the atomic population inversion, atom–field entanglement, field squeezing, sub-Poissonian statistics and the Wigner quasi-probability distribution function. In detail, we discuss numerically the influences of the detuning parameters and a particular nonlinearity function on the mentioned quantities and demonstrate that they have substantial effects on the temporal behavior of the above-mentioned non-classical properties.

[87]., This paper presents an analysis at next-to-next-to-leading order in the theory of quantum chromodynamics for the determination of a new set of proton parton distribution functions using diverse measurements in pp collisions at root s = 7, 8 and 13 TeV, performed by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, together with deep inelastic scattering data from ep collisions at the HERA collider. The ATLAS data sets considered are differential cross-section measurements of inclusive W-+/- and Z/gamma* boson production, W-+/- and Z boson production in association with jets, t (t) over bar production, inclusive jet production and direct photon production. 46. Quark sivers function at small x: spin-dependent odderon and the sub-eikonal evolution

Abstract: We apply the formalism developed earlier for studying transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions (TMDs) at small Bjorken $x$ to construct the small-$x$ asymptotics of the quark Sivers function. First, we explicitly construct the complete fundamental "polarized Wilson line" operator to sub-sub-eikonal order: this object can be used to study a variety of quark TMDs at small-$x$. We then express the quark Sivers function in terms of dipole scattering amplitudes containing various components of the "polarized Wilson line" and show that the dominant (eikonal) term which contributes to the quark Sivers function at small $x$ is the spin-dependent odderon, confirming the recent results of Dong, Zheng and Zhou. Our conclusion is also similar to the case of the gluon Sivers function derived by Boer, Echevarria, Mulders and Zhou (see also the work by Szymanowski and Zhou). We also analyze the sub-eikonal corrections to the quark Sivers function using the constructed "polarized Wilson line" operator. We derive new small-$x$ evolution equations re-summing double-logarithmic powers of $\alpha_s \, \ln^2 (1/x)$ with $\alpha_s$ the strong coupling constant. We solve the corresponding novel evolution equations in the large-$N_c$ limit, obtaining a sub-eikonal correction to the spin-dependent odderon contribution. We conclude that the quark Sivers function at small $x$ receives contributions from two terms and is given by \begin{align} f_{1 \: T}^{\perp \: q} (x, k_T^2) = C_O (x, k_T^2) \, \frac{1}{x} + C_1 (k_T^2) \, \left( \frac{1}{x} \right)^0 + \ldots \end{align} with the function $C_O (x, k_T^2)$ varying slowly with $x$ and the ellipsis denoting the sub-asymptotic and sub-sub-eikonal (order-$x$) corrections., Comment: 41 pages, 11 figures, 1 table. 47. Deep insights into the local structure of amorphous Ta2O5 thin films by x-ray pair distribution function analysis

Abstract: Amorphous films of tantalum oxide (Ta2O5) are widely applied to build highly reflective mirrors used in interferometric gravitational wave detectors, such as the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO). Despite a large number of studies, the structural properties of amorphous Ta2O5 at the local scale still deserve several further investigations. Such information is essential to any attempt to understand the properties of this important material and no property modelling efforts can be expected to yield reliable information until the local structure in the amorphous phase is better understood. In this paper we report the results obtained by analysing the synchrotron X-ray pair distribution functions of pure and Ti-doped amorphous Ta2O5 film, deposited by ion beam sputtering, as prepared and after a thermal treatment. As a result, it is found that 1) the arrangement of Ta atoms in amorphous Ta2O5 strongly resembles that characterizing the high-pressure Z-Ta2O5 polymorph, whereas the topological properties of O atoms resembles that observed in delta-Ta2O5; 2) structural correlations in amorphous Ta2O5 start to vanish above ~ 5 Angstrom and are completely suppressed for r > 10 Angstrom on account of disorder; 3) Ti substitution retains the short-range topological ordering characterizing the as prepared Ta2O5 amorphous film even after thermal treatment; conversely, pure Ta2O5 films undergoes a significant rearrangement of the local structure after thermal treatment.

Abstract: In some inertial confinement fusion hohlraum designs, the inside plasma is not sufficiently collisional to be satisfactorily described by the Euler equations implemented in hydrodynamic simulation codes, particularly in converging regions of the expanding plasma flow. To better treat that situation, this paper presents an extended hydrodynamics model including higher moments of the particle velocity distribution function, together with physically justified closure assumptions and relaxation terms. A preliminary one-dimensional numerical implementation of the model is shown to give satisfactory results in a test case involving a high-velocity collision of two plasma flows. Paths to extend that model to three dimensions as needed for an actual hohlraum geometry are briefly discussed., 21 pages, 7 figures

Abstract: International audience; This paper addresses simulation of heat dominated compressible flows in a closed cavity using a pressure-based lattice Boltzmann (LB) method, in which thermal effects are modeled by applying a pressure-featured zero-order moment of distribution functions. A focus is made on the conservation of mass at boundary nodes, which is a challenging issue that significantly complicated by the density-decoupled zero-order moment here. The mass leakage at boundary nodes is mathematically quantified, which enables an efficient local mass correction scheme. The performance of this solver is assessed by simulating buoyancy-driven flows in a closed deferentially heated cavity with large temperature differences (non-Boussinesq) at Rayleigh numbers ranging from 103 to 107. Simulations show that mass leakage at solid walls in such configurations is a critical issue to obtain reliable solutions, and it eventually leads to simulations overflow when the cavity is inclined. The proposed mass correction scheme is, however, shown to be effective to control the mass leakage and get accurate solutions. Thus, associated with the proposed mass conservation scheme, the pressure-based LB method becomes reliable to study natural convection dominated flows at large temperature differences in closed geometries with mesh aligned boundaries or not

50. Validity check of the KATIE parton level event generator in the <math><msub><mi>k</mi><mi>t</mi></msub></math>-factorization and collinear frameworks

Abstract: In the present paper, we check and study the validity of the KATIE parton level event generator by calculating the inclusive electron-proton (ep) dijet and the proton-proton (pp) Drell-Yan electron-pair production’s differential cross sections in the kt- and collinear factorization frameworks. The Martin-Ryskin-Watt (MRW) unintegrated parton distribution functions (UPDFs) are used as the input UPDFs. The results are compared with those of ZEUS ep inclusive dijet and ATLAS p-p Drell-Yan electron-pair productions, experimental data. The KATIE parton level event generator can directly calculate the cross sections in the kt-factorization framework. It was noticed by van Hameren, the author of KATIE, that the lab to the Breit transformation in this generator was not correctly implemented, so the produced output did not cover the ep ZEUS experimental data in which the mentioned transformation is applied. The author of the code fixed the bug by implementing the correct transformation in the KATIE parton event generator. Then, we could appropriately produce the ep inclusive dijet differential cross section, in comparison with those of ZEUS data. It is also shown that the Martin-Ryskin-Watt at the next-to-leading order level, with the angular ordering constraint, can successfully predict the ATLAS p-p Drell-Yan data. Finally, as it is expected, we conclude that the kt factorization is an appropriate tool for the small longitudinal parton momenta and high center of mass energies, with respect to the collinear one.
