The ecological niche sensu Hutchinson is defined as the set of environmental conditions allowing a species to grow, maintain, and reproduce. This conception of the niche, which is assimilated to a p‐dimensional hypervolume, with p representing all environmental variables, has been widely applied in ecology. However, displaying the niche hypervolume has proved challenging when more than three environmental dimensions are considered simultaneously. We propose a simple method (implemented in the specieschrom R package) that displays the full multidimensionality of the ecological niche of a species into a two‐dimensional space by means of a graphic we call species chromatogram. This method gives a graphical summary of the niche by representing together abundance gradients with respect to all environmental variables. A chromatogram enables niche optimums and breaths to be rapidly quantified, and when several chromatograms are examined (one per species), rapid comparisons can be made. From our chromatograms, we proposed a procedure that quantifies niche optimum and breadth as well as niche overlapping (index D) and the identification of the most discriminant combination of environmental variables. We apply these analyses on eight planktonic species collected by the Continuous Plankton Recorder (CPR) survey in the North Atlantic Ocean using 10 environmental variables. We display their full multidimensional niches and quantify their niche optimums and breadths along each dimension. We also compare our index D with other indices by means of hypervolume and dynRB R packages. By catching the full complexity of the niche, species chromatograms allow many different niche properties to be rapidly assessed and compared among species from niche optimums and breadths to the identification of the most relevant environmental parameters and the degree of niche overlapping among species. This paper develops a general and complete solution for the undrained cylindrical cavity expansion problem in nonassociated Mohr‐Coulomb soil under nonhydrostatic initial stress field (i.e., arbitrary K0${{K}_0}$ values of the earth pressure coefficient), by expanding a unique and efficient graphical solution procedure recently proposed by Chen and Wang in 2022 for the special in situ stress case with K0=1${K}_{0}=1$. It is interesting to find that the cavity expansion deviatoric stress path is always composed of a series of piecewise straight lines, for all different case scenarios of K0 being involved. When the cavity is sufficiently expanded, the stress path will eventually end, exclusively, in a major sextant with Lode angle θ in between 5π3$\frac{{5\pi }}{3}$ and 11π6$\frac{{11\pi }}{6}$ or on the specific line of θ=11π6$\theta = \frac{{11\pi }}{6}$. The salient advantage/feature of the present general graphical approach lies in that it can deduce the cavity expansion responses in full closed form, nevertheless being free of the limitation of the intermediacy assumption for the vertical stress and of the difficulty existing in the traditional zoning method that involves cumbersome, sequential determination of distinct Mohr–Coulomb plastic regions. Some typical results for the desired cavity expansion curves and the limit cavity pressure are presented, to investigate the impacts of soil plasticity parameters and the earth pressure coefficient on the cavity responses. In this study, the graphical method, which is widely used to find the coefficients of the Weibull distribution function (WDF), has been improved by using the moving least squares approximation (MLSA) replace least squares method (LSM). The accuracy of the results obtained by the moving least squares method is shown by two different error analysis tests. In order to implement this method, Osmaniye region, which is rich in wind potential maintenance, has been selected. The root mean square error (RMSE) and mean percentage error (MPE) are used to compare the efficiency of proposed method. In this study, the results of the graphical method developed by the MLSA were compared monthly and yearly with the results obtained according to the least squares method. It was observed that the results of the proposed method in the two error analysis tests were much better. Also, the mean wind speed and average wind power values of the selected region were calculated with the coefficients found by MLSA. These calculated values were compared with actual values. In this work, an approximate solution is given to compute the gas emissivities and absorptivities for H2O–CO2–CO mixtures. The proposed model is valid for temperatures from 300 to 2700 K and pressure path‐length (PxL) $({P}_{x}L)$ from 0.06 to 40 atm m. In the calculation of the analytical solution (AS), the nonlinear methods of Galerkin and Ritz were implemented based on the residual solution of the differential roots of the Finite Element Method. For each point value (PxL;T) $({P}_{x}L;T)$ using the AS, the spectral absorptivity aλ ${a}_{\lambda }$ and emissivity ελ ${\varepsilon }_{\lambda }$ were determined, while for the gas mixture the emissivity εm ${\varepsilon }_{m}$ and absorptivity am ${a}_{m}$ were computed using the Hottel Graphical Method (HGM) and the proposed method. In the emissivity calculations, the HGM shows less adjustment, with values of ±20% and ±15% for 79.1% and 56.2% of the available analytical data, while the proposed model correlates adequately with the available data, showing an average deviation of ±15% and ±10% for 91.4% and 76.2% of the available data. In the absorptivity estimations, the HGM shows a weaker fit, with values of ±20% and ±15% for 77.3% and 51.4% of the experimental data, respectively, while the proposed model shows good agreement with the available data, with a mean deviation of ±15% and ±10% for 89.8% and 74.1% of the test made. A new graphical method for the fundamental design of pressure‐swing distillation (PSD) and valid heat integration of the designed process is demonstrated based on a pinch analysis. As the minimum pressure constraint, the pinch pressure is determined by this graphical method to secure the necessary temperature driving force and circumvent the distillation boundaries. For a feasibility evaluation of heat‐integrated PSD (HIPSD), the suggested approach requires visualization of the pinch temperature contours and the feasible composition region of an initial feed according to the pressure change and dynamic properties of ternary azeotropic systems. We thus carried out an in‐depth examination by conducting case studies to show the feasible integration into HIPSD. The new insight is that the HIPSD system can have different pinch pressures depending on the column sequence or the separation order of pure components. In this work, an approximate analytical solution (AS) is presented to evaluate the radiative thermal exchange through a gaseous participating medium composed of H2O, CO2, and CO, which is valid for the product values of pressure path‐length (PL) from 0.06 to 20 atm m and temperatures (T) from 300 K to 2100 K. The Spence root weighting method is used to approximate the exact solutions. For each set of PL;T $\mathrm{PL}{\rm{;}}T$, the value of exact spectral emissivity and absorptivity ελ ${\varepsilon }_{\lambda }$ and aλ ${a}_{\lambda }$ for the gas mixture is calculated using the AS, the Hottel graphical method (HGM) and the proposed approximate solution. The weaker adjustment was achieved in the modeling of the HGM, with a mean deviation obtained of ±15% and ±20% for 43.8% and 56.3% of the data evaluated, respectively, while the best indices were obtained in the estimation of the proposed method, with a mean deviation obtained of ±10% and ±15% for 81.3% and 98.1% of the available data, respectively. We represent the dynamic relation among variables in vector autoregressive (VAR) models as directed graphs. Based on these graphs, we identify so‐called strongly connected components. Using this graphical representation, we consider the problem of variable choice. We use the relations among the strongly connected components to select variables that need to be included in a VAR if interest is in impulse response analysis of a given set of variables. Our theoretical contributions show that the set of selected variables from the graphical method coincides with the set of variables that is multi‐step causal for the variables of interest by relating the paths in the graph to the coefficients of the 'direct' VAR representation. An empirical application illustrates the usefulness of the suggested approach: Including the selected variables into a small US monetary VAR is useful for impulse response analysis as it avoids the well‐known 'price‐puzzle'. The selection based on multiple traits enhances the crop cultivars merit to farmers. In this regard, 19 breeding lines as well as two commercial cultivars were studied using a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with three replications in three locations during the 2020–2021 growing season. In this study, to identify the association among different traits and to select the best rapeseed lines based on multiple traits, genotype × trait (GT) and genotype × yield × trait (GYT) biplot analyses were used. The results showed that using GYT biplot is more efficient than GT biplot. Based on the GYT biplot and superiority index (SI), the breeding lines G16 and G18 were considered as superior genotypes in combination with the agronomical traits, that is, 1000‐seed weight, number of seeds per pod, number of pods per plant, number of lateral branches, plant height, and pod length with seed yield, which represents a genetic gain in rapeseed breeding program. Based on seed yield combination with phenological traits (early maturity), the breeding line G15 was selected as the best one. Moreover, the line G2 was defined as the superior one in combination of seed yield with pod length. The results indicated that there is a potential for simultaneous genetic improvement of the characteristics (i.e., plant height, number of seeds per pod, early maturity) in rapeseed. Generally, the graphical method of the GYT biplot represented an efficient and practical new way to recognize superior genotypes based on multiple traits in rapeseed breeding programs. Among several methods employed for sizing thickeners available in the literature, the Kynch, Biscaia Jr., Talmadge and Fitch, Roberts, Coe and Clevenger, and Oltmann methods use experimental data from sedimentation curves and graphical approaches. By using the Weibull distribution, it is possible to represent sedimentation curves with algebraic equations, which does not require the use of graphical approaches and provides more accuracy and speed for sizing calculations. In the present work, the main objective is the development of a set of equations for sizing continuous thickeners, for six conventional methods found in the literature, using the Weibull model. A comparative analysis of calculated and literature diameters for each graphical method presented variations between 0.73% and 8.93%. This paper presents detailed curing kinetics models for two thermoset adhesives. The cure kinetics were characterized using differential scanning calorimetry in both anisothermal and isothermal modes. The Sestak–Berggren autocatalytic model was applied to describe the anisothermal cure kinetics of the two adhesives with the Malek and undetermined coefficients methods determining their kinetic parameters. The Kamal autocatalytic model was adopted for the isothermal curing processes with the Kenny analytical‐graphical method determining the kinetic parameters. A modified Kamal model was developed by introducing a concept of the maximum degree of cure (DOC) and temperature‐depended kinetic parameters to describe the isothermal cure kinetics of the adhesive with a typical exothermic peak, and an extended Kamal model was further proposed by adding an initial‐phase‐control term to the modified Kamal model to describe the isothermal cure kinetics of the adhesive with two exothermic peaks. The results showed that the presented curing kinetics models with the determined parameters can precisely predict the evolutions of the DOC of the two thermoset adhesives in both anisothermal and isothermal modes. Bio‐oils such as conventional soybean, high‐oleic soybean, canola, and sunflower are valuable as bio‐solvents for removing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from natural gas. Preceding bench‐scale studies indicate that more than 90% of H2S can be removed from a gas stream; economic analysis of such a process is necessary to determine the solvent regenerative power required and cost constraints on a to‐be‐determined solvent regeneration scheme. With the goal of processing 1000 kmol·h–1 of sour gas and removing 99.9% of H2S from gas streams with various feed concentrations, the design of an absorption unit to process natural gas using bio‐oils as the absorbing solvent was carried out through equilibrium stage analysis. A graphical method combined with the Kremser method found that a trayed tower with 14 stages, a 2 m diameter, and 8.5 m height could meet these goals successfully with a bio‐solvent flow rate of 120 kmol·h–1. Capital costs were centered on the price of an extraction column designed to meet the desired throughput. Comparison with conventional amine gas treatment was used to set a limit for the cost of treating a unit of gas, and sensitivity analysis explored the relationship between solvent recycle and cost of treating the gas. This study found that the economic viability of using bio‐oils as gas‐sweetening agents depended on developing a solvent regeneration scheme capable of recycling more than 98% of the bio‐oil bio‐solvent. This paper presents analytical solutions for the finite expansion problems of a spherical or cylindrical cavity, using a simple yet novel graphical approach recently proposed by Chen & Abousleiman in 2022, in both original Cam Clay (OCC) and modified Cam Clay (MCC) soils under undrained conditions. It is shown that, for a soil mass subjected to isotropic in situ stress conditions, the stress paths in the deviatoric plane for the spherical and cylindrical cavity expansions turn out to be two straight lines, which correspond to Lode angles equal to 11π6$\frac{{11\pi }}{6}$ and 5π3$\frac{{5\pi }}{3}$, respectively. The desired limiting cavity pressure therefore can be directly and accurately evaluated through simple numerical integration with respect to the mean effective stress, while the relationship between the internal cavity pressure and the cavity radius, the cavity expansion curve, may be equally conveniently determined. Numerical results obtained from the current graphical method, for a range of the values of over consolidation ratio considered, compare extremely well with those from the conventional semianalytical formulations of the undrained cavity problem that involve solving a system of coupled governing differential equations. It is interesting to note that the representative and approximate solution developed by Collins & Yu in 1996 indeed is a correct one for the spherical cavity expansion problem, and, with minor modifications, will be applicable for the accurate calculation of the responses of the cylindrical cavity as well. The receiver‐operating characteristic (ROC) curve is the most popular graphical method for evaluating the classification accuracy of a diagnostic marker. In time‐to‐event studies, the subject's event status is time‐dependent, and hence, time‐dependent extensions of ROC curve have been proposed. However, in practice, the calculation of this curve is not straightforward due to the presence of censoring that may be of different types. Existing methods focus on the more standard and simple case of right‐censoring and neglect the general case of mixed interval‐censored data that may involve left‐, right‐, and interval‐censored observations. In this context, we propose and study a new time‐dependent ROC curve estimator. We also consider some summary measures (area under the ROC curve and Youden index) traditionally associated with ROC as well as the Youden‐based cutoff estimation method. The proposed method uses available data very efficiently. To this end, the unknown status (positive or negative) of censored subjects are estimated from the data via the estimation of the conditional survival function given the marker. For that, we investigate both model‐based and nonparametric approaches. We also provide variance estimates and confidence intervals using Bootstrap. A simulation study is conducted to investigate the finite sample behavior of the proposed methods and to compare their performance with a competitor. Globally, we observed better finite sample performances for the proposed estimators. Finally, we illustrate the methods using two data sets one from a hypobaric decompression sickness study and the other from an oral health study. Germination timing is an important determinant of survival and niche breadth of plants. The annual plant Nigella sativa occurs in diverse environments along a steep temperature gradient and thus is a suitable model for the study of germination behavior in response to temperature. We used a modeling approach to compare the germination thermal niche of seeds of nine populations of N. sativa produced in a common garden. Germination time courses were obtained by a newly developed process‐based model, and thermal niche was visualized by plotting germination breadth as a function of after‐ripening time. Seeds were sampled five times: immature (2 weeks before maturity), mature, and afterripened for 1, 2, and 5 months. Immature and mature seeds had a greater depth of dormancy than afterripened seeds, as estimated by lower values of high‐limit temperatures (Th). Afterripening increased germination percentage, synchrony, and thermal niche breadth of all nine populations. The highest asynchrony was for immature and mature seeds, and afterripening enhanced synchrony. Based on the new graphical method, N. sativa has Type 1 nondeep physiological dormancy, and thus, the germination niche is narrow at seed maturity, leading to a delayed germination strategy that is highly dependent on thermal time accumulated during afterripening. Our findings show that there is considerable variation in the germination thermal niche among populations. Temperature regimes in the natural habitats of N. sativa have played a significant role in shaping variation in thermal niche breadth for seed germination of this annual species. The models used in our study precisely predict germination behavior and thermal niche under different environmental conditions. The germination synchrony model also can estimate germination pattern and degree of dormancy during the year, suggesting a useful method for quantification of germination strategies. X‐ray third‐order nonlinear asymmetrical diffraction has three independent parameters: the asymmetry angle, the incident wave intensity and the deviation from the exact Bragg orientation. In contrast to the linear case, in the nonlinear case the total reflection region does not exist for all intensity values and asymmetry angles. Theoretical consideration leads to analytical conditions of the total reflection region, and the analysis can be carried out by a graphical method. An exact solution in the total reflection region is found. The numerical solutions of the third‐order nonlinear diffraction allow one to find the reflection curves for a fixed asymmetry angle or for a fixed intensity. This article presents a graphical method to visually analyze the trait–yield association (TYA) patterns based on data from multi‐location, multi‐year crop variety trials, exemplified using oat data from trials conducted across Canada from 2017 to 2022. Each year a new set of 60–66 oat (Avena sativa L.) breeding lines were tested in replicated yield trials at 9–11 locations, and data for yield, key agronomic and quality traits, and crown rust scores were collected at all or some of the locations. Pearson correlation coefficient was calculated between yield and each trait for each trial. The correlation coefficients from different locations and years were arranged in a TYA × trial (TYT) two‐way table. This table was subjected to singular value decomposition, and the resulting first two principal components were used to generate a TYT biplot. The TYT biplot revealed three oat mega‐environments (MEs) in Canada, consistent with the conclusion from previous ME analyses, indicating that each ME had its characteristic TYA patterns. It was found that yield was consistently and positively correlated with crown rust (Puccinia coronata var. avenae) resistance, test weight, kernel weight, and groat content in ME1 (the crown rust‐prone regions of Ontario); yield was correlated positively with plant height but negatively with oil content in ME2 (the northern regions of eastern Canada). Interestingly, crown rust resistance was found to contribute negatively to yield in ME2. No strong and consistent TYAs were found in ME3 (the Canadian prairies). Different types of TYAs have different uses in genotypic selection. The rate constant ratios of the consecutive chlorination of p‐xylene at 70oC in a gas–liquid semibatch reactor using molecular chlorine, dichloroethane as a solvent, and antimony pentachloride as a catalyst was investigated up to the fourth successive reaction (tetrachloro‐p‐xylene production). The rate ratios were determined with both mathematical expressions and a graphical method proposed recently in the literature by use of the maxima of the successive products. In addition, to this simple method that concerns only one pair of values of products (single‐point maximum approach), another novel method is proposed and successfully applied concerning many pairs of corresponding values of intermediate products (multiple points maximum approach). This latter method permits the estimation of uncertainties and propagation of uncertainties that proved the usefulness and the possibilities of determining the parameters based on special points of the kinetic dependencies. The rate ratios found for monochloro‐p‐xylene (2‐chloro‐p‐xylene), dichloro‐p‐xylene (the sum of 2,3‐dichloro‐p‐xylene and 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐xylene), trichloro‐p‐xylene (2,3,5‐trichloro‐p‐xylene), and tetrachloro‐p‐xylene (2,3,5,6‐tetrachloro‐p‐xylene) are k2/k1 = 0.09741, k3/k1 = 0.002685, and k4/k1 = 0.000499. The ratio of the dichloro‐isomers produced was also determined in the initial stages as 3.3 in favor of 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐xylene, which is reasonable since 2,3‐dichloro‐p‐xylene is highly hindered by the adjacent groups on the aromatic nucleus. Nevertheless, as the production of trichloro‐p‐xylene increased considerably, the proportion of 2,3‐dichloro‐p‐xylene gradually diminished down to complete disappearance. This is attributed to the ease of this isomer to be further chlorinated to trichloro‐product since its available free sites on the nucleus are less hindered compared to 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐xylene. The standard uncertainties of the rate constant ratios, the standard deviation of the means, as well as the expanded uncertainties of the means were calculated and proved statistically accepted. Feeding specialisations are known to play an important role in the ecology and evolution of many organisms. In this study, we performed a comparative analysis based on the data of the gut content of eight species of the genus Limia (family Poeciliidae) to explore the potential role of feeding ecology in the radiation of this genus in the Caribbean. We analysed the feeding strategies using the modified Costello's graphical method. In addition, we estimated the contribution of each food item to the diet by calculating the alimentary index of six different functional categories that summarised the variation in main type of consumed items. We also compared the niche breadth for all analysed species and the niche breadth variation between wet and dry seasons in four species we were able to sample in both periods of the year. Most of the analysed species showed preference for detritus and algae. Species that exhibited a more omnivorous diet such as L. versicolor and L. perugiae revealed moderate levels of consumption of terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates. Nonetheless, some species such as L. yaguajali and L. nigrofasciata showed specialisations towards detritus as the dominant food item found in the gut content analysis. In general, niche breadth values were higher in the wet season than in the dry period. Our study showed that the majority of species analysed tend to be feeding generalists, but some degree of specialisation occurs in some species from Hispaniola where the diversity of the genus Limia is remarkably higher compared to the rest of the Greater Antilles. Given that p‐xylene is an important chemical feedstock for many final products in the market from pesticides, pharmaceuticals, peroxides to dyes, its chlorinated derivatives are of interest in the chemical industry. In this paper, the rate constant ratios of the consecutive chlorination of p‐xylene at 70°C in a gas–liquid semibatch reactor using molecular chlorine and iron(III) chloride as a catalyst was investigated up to the fourth successive reaction (tetrachloro‐p‐xylene production). The ratios were determined with both mathematical expressions and a graphical method proposed recently in the literature by use of the maxima of the successive products. The ratios found for monochloro‐p‐xylene (2‐chloro‐p‐xylene), dichloro‐p‐xylene (the sum of 2,3‐dichloro‐p‐xylene and 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐xylene), trichloro‐p‐xylene (2,3,5‐trichloro‐p‐xylene), and tetrachloro‐p‐xylene (2,3,5,6‐tetrachloro‐p‐xylene) are k2/k1 = 0.295, k3/k1 = 0.0826, and k4/k1 = 0.00383. The ratio of the dichlo‐isomers produced was also determined as 2.12 in favor of 2,5‐dichloro‐p‐xylene, which is reasonable since 2,3‐dichloro‐p‐xylene is highly hindered by the adjacent groups on the aromatic nucleus. The existing knowledge found in the literature on the rate constant ratios of consecutive reactions was also extended in this paper with a new mathematical expression for the determination of the third stage product peak concentration. The standard uncertainties of the rate constant ratios, the standard deviation of the means, as well as the expanded uncertainties of the means, were calculated. Permeate recovery is a key parameter that plays a central role in the performance assessment and optimization of reverse osmosis processes. It remains a great challenge for engineers in the field to determine the recovery conveniently and accurately from the basic parameters of a membrane system. A concise analytical model is presented here that, without the need for the empirical or fitting coefficients and tedious numerical calculation, links the recovery of a reverse osmosis process rigorously to three basic parameters: the feed water salt concentration, the characteristic of membrane process, and the driving pressure. A graphical solution method to the model is also introduced to find out the recovery effortlessly. The concise model and graphical method are demonstrated under various conditions as a powerful tool for the performance simulations and improvement of reverse osmosis processes. The aim of this work has been to assess the Hilhorst model, used for estimating in‐soil pore water conductivity, against soil properties of percolation threshold and soil particle conductivity. The Hilhorst model has the benefit of requiring a single soil‐specific parameter which makes this model easy to apply from soil permittivity and bulk conductivity measurements. However, the Hilhorst model requires that the bulk conductivity measurement is dominated by pore water conductivity, which is not always the case in many "real‐world" settings. This work examines a mathematical framework derived from combining the Hilhorst and Ewing and Hunt models which allows the Hilhorst soil parameter to be derived for a range of soil particle conductivities (0 to 10 mS m−1) and percolation thresholds (0 to 0.1 m3 m−3). The analysis in this work indicates that the Hilhorst parameter is highly sensitive to both soil properties with respect to the default value of 4.1 that is often employed. This assessment indicates that: (i) soil particle conductivity can result in the Hilhorst model overestimating pore water conductivity, which becomes more significant for lower bulk conductivities, and, (ii) percolation threshold can result in the Hilhorst model underestimating pore water conductivity, which becomes more significant for lower soil moisture contents. The results from this analysis suggest that the application of the Hilhorst model should be considered against the context of soil particle conductivity and percolation threshold for a given soil under test. The fanning compression stress pattern in RC deep beams under uniform load presents a challenge to formulating the configuration of strut‐and‐tie model (STM). To this end, this paper proposes an alternative method for creating a graphical discontinuous stress field model (DSFM) to fill up the whole beam continuum. It comprises a certain number of trapezoidal stress‐bands with varying bandwidths, and their stress values can be calculated based on force equilibrium conditions. Several stress subfields are defined through a certain stress combination from several directions. The DSFM is implementable for both service limit state (SLS) and ultimate limit state (ULS) in that its configuration is primarily oriented by elastic stress field and only a limited plastic redistribution is allowed for plastic failure. Predicting the spatial impact of debris flows on fans is challenging due to complex runout behaviour. Debris flow mobility is highly variable and flows can sporadically avulse the channel. For hazard and risk assessments, practitioners typically base the probability of spatial impact or avulsion on their experience and expert judgement. To support decision‐making with empirical observations, we studied spatial impact distributions on 30 active debris‐flow fans in south‐western British Columbia, Canada. We mapped 146 debris‐flow impact areas over an average observation period of 74 years using orthorectified airphotos, satellite imagery, topographic base maps, LiDAR data, orthophotos, and field observations. We devised a graphical method to convert our geospatial mapping into spatial impact heat maps normalized by fan boundaries, enabling comparison of runout distributions across different fans. About 90% of the mapped debris flows reached beyond the mid‐points of fans, while less than 10% avulsed more than half‐way across the fan relative to the previous flow path. Most avulsions initiated at distances of 20% to 40% of the maximum fan length from the fan apex and upstream of the fan intersection point. Large volume events tend to be more mobile in the down‐fan direction, but the relation between volume and cross‐fan runout (e.g., avulsions) is more complex. Differences in spatial impact distributions can be explained, in part, by the degree of fan incision and whether a fan is truncated at its toe by a river or lake. There were no significant differences in spatial impact distributions based on the geology of the source area, sediment supply condition, or hydrogeomorphic process classification. In order to identify the effect of genotype × trait, 20 maize (Zea mays L.) hybrids were cultivated and investigated in a randomized complete block design in three replications in the Karaj region. The results of the analysis of variance showed that the effect of genotype in terms of all traits except for the traits of days until the tassel dries, peduncle outside the flag leaf, tassel length, the number of fill seeds, and the depth of the seeds are significantly different. Based on the mean comparison done by Duncan's method, G3, G6, G7, and G4 genotypes were identified as favorable hybrids. Based on the graphic analysis, the genotypes G5, G4, G6, G3, G9, and G14 can be identified as desirable hybrids. The correlation diagram indicated that the grain yield trait has a positive correlation with tassel length, leaf length, leaf width, and leaf surface traits. Based on the principal component analysis, the first 10 components explained more than 74% of the data variance. The traits were classified into 10 components: components of ear characteristics, time characteristics in terms of maturity, leaf characteristics, characteristics of maize plant 1 (cob corn diameter, peduncle length, and grain yield traits), characteristics of maize plant 2 (number of tassel branches, leaf surface, and grain yield traits), physiological characteristics and germination, the crown part of the ear characteristics, grain characteristics, grain yield, and characteristics of the ear head. The experiment results indicated that G8, G15, G1, and G6 hybrids were more favorable in terms of grain yield trait. The six‐minute walking test (6MWT) is commonly used to measure functional capacity in field settings, primarily through the distance covered. This study aims to establish reference curves for the six‐minute walking distance (6MWD) and peak heart rate (PHR) and develop a predictive equation for cardiovascular capacity in Tunisian children and adolescents. A total of 1501 participants (706 boys and 795 girls), aged 10–18 years, were recruited from schools in Tunisia. The Lambda (L), Mu (M), and Sigma (S) methods (LMS method) were employed to develop smoothed percentile curves for 6MWD and PHR. Multivariate linear regression was utilized to formulate a prediction equation for 6MWD. Smoothed percentiles (3rd, 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, 90th, and 97th) for 6MWD and PHR were presented with age. All variables showed a strong positive correlation (p < 0.001) with a six‐minute walking distance (r ranged from 0.227 to 0.558 for girls and from 0.309 to 0.610 for boys), except resting heart rate, which showed a strong negative correlation (girls: r = −0.136; boys: r = −0.201; p < 0.001). Additionally, PHR showed a weak correlation (p > 0.05). The prediction equations, based on age as the primary variable, were established for both genders. For boys: 6MWD = 66.181 + 38.142 × Age (years) (R2 = 0.372; Standard Error of Estimate (SEE) = 122.13), and for girls: 6MWD = 105.535 + 28.390 × Age (years) (R2 = 0.312; SEE = 103.66). The study provides normative values and predictive equations for 6MWD and PHR in Tunisian children and adolescents. Objective: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) poses a significant threat to lung cancer patients, particularly those receiving treatment with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs). We aimed to develop and validate a nomogram model for predicting the occurrence of VTE in lung cancer patients undergoing ICI therapy. Methods: The data for this retrospective cohort study was collected from cancer patients admitted to Chongqing University Cancer Hospital for ICI treatment between 2019 and 2022. The research data is divided into training and validation sets using a 7:3 ratio. Univariate and multivariate analyses were employed to identify risk factors for VTE. Based on these analyses, along with clinical expertise, a nomogram model was crafted. The model's predictive accuracy was assessed through receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, calibration curves, decision curve analysis, clinical impact curve, and other relevant metrics. Results: The initial univariate analysis pinpointed 13 potential risk factors for VTE. The subsequent stepwise multivariate regression analysis identified age, Karnofsky performance status, chemotherapy, targeted, platelet count, lactate dehydrogenase, monoamine oxidase, D‐dimer, fibrinogen, and white blood cell count as significant predictors of VTE. These 10 variables were the foundation for a predictive model, illustrated by a clear and intuitive nomogram. The model's discriminative ability was demonstrated by the ROC curve, which showed an area under the curve of 0.815 (95% CI 0.772–0.858) for the training set, and 0.753 (95% CI 0.672–0.835) for the validation set. The model's accuracy was further supported by Brier scores of 0.068 and 0.080 for the training and validation sets, respectively, indicating a strong correlation with actual outcomes. In this study, we employed the evidential belief function model (EBF) to evaluate the potential for land subsidence in the primary aquifer of Bardaskan. Through field visits, we recorded GPS coordinates for 174 land subsidence points. Factors considered in assessing land subsidence potential included well density, groundwater extraction rate, geological characteristics, proximity to faults, vegetation cover, distance from the river, slope, and land use. To develop and validate the model, 70% of the recorded points were randomly selected for training and implementation, while the remaining 30% were reserved for model validation. The number and percentage of land subsidence points in the different classes of the corresponding layers were determined by integrating the training points with influential variables maps such as distance from the river, distance from the fault, land use, and extraction volume. The EBF model rate was calculated for different layer classes. For modeling, all rates of the EBF model in each cell were summated, and the ‎potential of land subsidence was calculated.‎ Finally, the map of land subsidence potential based on the EBF model was determined with GIS. The results showed that most of the subsidence points were located in alluvial sediment of the Holocene period, in areas with high groundwater harvesting, a distance of at least 3000 m from a river, a distance of at least 6000 m from a fault, low‐density rangelands, slopes of at least 0%–2%, and farmlands and gardens. A receiver operating characteristic curve analysis of the EBF model showed that it could accurately predict land subsidence in 87.5% of cases using 30% of the validation data. This suggests that the model can be used for practical applications. Recommendations for Resource Managers: Most of the occurred subsidence points in the Bardaskan aquifer were located in the alluvial sediment of the Holocene period.Subsidence points were closely related to high groundwater harvesting, distance from a river and fault, low‐density rangelands, slopes, and farmlands and gardens.The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve was calculated to be 87.5%, indicating that the evidential belief function model accurately predicts land subsidence in the studied area. In low‐lying coastal regions, the joint occurrence of high river flow and high water levels can cause coastal flooding with substantial economic and social implications. Recent studies over Canada's coasts have shown that neglecting the interdependency between flood drivers can underestimate the risk of flooding by up to 50%. However, to date, such interdependency has not been investigated for the coasts of the St. Lawrence River, Estuary and Gulf system (StL), where Sea Level Rise (SLR), along with intensified river peaks, are already threatening these communities. In this study, a copula‐based bivariate frequency analysis was applied to quantify the likelihood of occurrence of flooding events under dependent and independent assumptions, for 26 sites along the StL. Furthermore, to quantify the impact of anthropogenic climate change, the joint return period in historical period was compared with that of projected SLR associated with RCP 8.5 for the year 2100. Results show that (a) the independence assumption can underestimate the likelihood of occurrence of flooding event in the Fluvial Section of the StL by up to 30 times and (b) the SLR can increase the likelihood of occurrence of flooding event by up to 50 times in the Estuary and the Gulf and by up to 5 times in the Fluvial Section of the StL. This study highlights the need for explicit consideration of the dependence between flood drivers and of SLR in the delineation of flood maps along the coast of the St. Lawrence. Plain Language Summary: Coastal communities are at risk of flooding from both high river streamflow and high coastal water levels at the same time. However, to date, this kind of compound event has not been investigated for the coasts of the StL. As such, in this study, extreme return levels were computed at 26 sites along the St. Lawrence River, Estuary and Gulf system by taking the probability of occurrence of both high peak flow and high coastal water levels, as well as the probability of their joint occurrence. Furthermore, the impact of climate change was estimated by incorporating an increase in sea level as projected by high emission scenarios. Results show that joint occurrence of high river flow and water levels is likely to happen in the Fluvial Section of the St. Lawrence River, but less so elsewhere, and that sea level rise will have a severe impact on likelihood of occurrence of flooding events in the Estuary and the Gulf, but limited impact along the Fluvial Section. This study highlights the need to take both flood drivers, their interaction with each other, as well as the impacts of sea level rise into consideration in the delineation of flood maps located along the coast of StL. The governor parameters affect the stability and regulation quality of hydropower system with two turbine units sharing a super long headrace tunnel (SLHT). To improve the transient process of hydropower system, this study investigates the optimization of governor parameters. First, the model of hydropower system with two turbine units sharing an SLHT is established. Second, the optimization scheme of governor parameters for transient process of hydropower system is designed by genetic algorithm. The mathematical formulation of genetic algorithm is illuminated. The implementation procedure of genetic algorithm is illustrated. Then, the optimization results of governor parameters by genetic algorithm are analyzed by illustrating the regulation quality of hydropower system under two operating conditions. Finally, the effect of asymmetrical factors on optimal governor parameters is revealed. The asymmetrical layout of bifurcated penstocks, asymmetrical layout of turbine units, and asymmetrical load disturbances are considered. The results indicate that the objective function of hydropower system is composed of the dynamic indexes for frequency oscillations of two turbine units and water level oscillation in surge tank. The fitness function evolves in the direction that makes the regulation quality of hydropower system become better. Under the symmetrical or asymmetrical bifurcated penstocks, turbine units, and load disturbances, the optimal parameters of governors are asymmetrical. The regulation quality of hydropower system under the governor parameters of genetic algorithm is obviously better than that under the governor parameters of Stein formula. The optimal governor parameters are directly affected by the asymmetrical factors of hydropower system. This study aims to explore the formation mechanism of starch structure and the relationships between the appearance quality and starch structure of soft rice under different nitrogen levels. We comprehensively investigated the physiological aspects, starch structure variations, and appearance quality of soft rice in response to different nitrogen applications. The results showed that under the moderate nitrogen application (270 N), the soft rice exhibited the highest AGPase activity, the highest large‐starch granule content, and the lowest chalkiness. Under the highest nitrogen application (360 N), the soft rice exhibited the highest GBSS and DBE activity and the lowest SBE activity, the highest content of long‐branched amylopectin, the lowest relative crystallinity, the fewest ordered structures, the most amorphous structures, the largest semi‐crystalline lamellar thicknesses, and the highest transparency of chalk‐free rice. In conclusion, moderate nitrogen fertilization (270 N) improved the AGPase activity, which leaded to fuller starch granules and more compact endosperm in soft rice. Thus, the grain chalkiness of soft rice decreased. Continuous nitrogen application (0‐360 N) constantly increased the GBSS and DBE activity and reduced the SBE activity in soft rice, leading a lower content of short‐branched amylopectin and a higher content of long‐branched amylopectin in soft rice. Background and Aims: Keratoconus is a progressive eye condition in which the normally round cornea thins and bulges outwards into a cone shape. This irregular shape causes light to scatter in multiple directions as it enters the eye, leading to distorted vision, increased sensitivity to light and frequent changes in the prescription of glasses or contact lenses. Detecting keratoconus at an early stage is not only difficult but also challenging. Methods: The study has proposed an ensemble‐based machine learning (ML) technique named KeratoEL to detect keratoconus at an early stage. The proposed KeratoEL model combines the basic machine learning algorithms, namely support vector machine (SVM), decision tree (DT), random forest (RF) and artificial neural network (ANN). Before employing the ML model for keratoconus detection, the data set is first preprocessed manually by eliminating some features that don't contribute any significant value to predict the exact class. Moreover, the output features are labelled into three different classes and Extra Trees Classifier is used to find out the important features. Then, the features are sorted in descending order and top 45, 30, and 15 features are taken as input datasets against the output. Finally, different machine learning models are tested using the input datasets and performance metrics are measured Results: The proposed model obtains 98.0%, 98.9% and 99.8% accuracy for top 45, 30, and 15 number of features respectively. Overall experimental results show that the proposed ensemble model outperforms the existing machine learning models. Conclusion: The proposed KeratoEL model effectively detects keratoconus at an early stage by combining SVM, DT, RF, and ANN algorithms, demonstrating superior performance over existing models. Open science skills are increasingly important for a career in ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB) as efforts to make data and analyses publicly available continue to become more commonplace. While learning core concepts in EEB, students are also expected to gain skills in conducting open science to prepare for future careers. Core open science skills like programming, data sharing, and practices that promote reproducibility can be taught to undergraduate students alongside core concepts in EEB. Yet, these skills are not always taught in biology undergraduate programs, and a major challenge in developing open science skills and learning EEB concepts simultaneously is the high cognitive load associated with learning multiple disparate concepts at the same time. One solution is to provide students with easily digestible, scaffolded, pre‐formatted code in the form of vignettes and interactive tutorials. Here, we present six open source teaching tutorials for undergraduate students in EEB. These tutorials teach fundamental ecological concepts, data literacy, programming (using R software), and analysis skills using publicly available datasets while introducing students to open science concepts and tools. Spanning a variety of EEB topics and skill levels, these tutorials serve as examples and resources for educators to integrate open science tools, programming, and data literacy into teaching EEB at the undergraduate level. The export of neritic material from the top of carbonate platforms is a key process in the construction of their slopes. However, our knowledge of the supply pattern of materials from platforms is dominantly based on platforms lying in the euphotic zone during the present sea‐level highstand. This is a somewhat biased perspective as through geological time not all platforms were euphotic. The Saya de Malha Bank in the Mascarene Plateau is an example of a modern mesophotic carbonate platform, and as such, its flooding and export patterns differ from those of euphotic ones. Using cores collected on the western slope of the Saya de Malha Bank, the export patterns of the platform since the last glacial maximum were explored. Material on the platform edge is winnowed and transported to the slope by multiple possible processes. The material on the platform is a combination of high and low magnesium calcite as well as high and low strontium aragonite, integrating pelagic and neritic sources. The ratio of these constituents varies over time with changes in the platform production capability as it was flooded and drowned during the Holocene transgression. The material from the platform is transported in both confined flows, mainly during lowstands, and unconfined flows, mainly during late transgression and early highstand. Background: Currently available behavioral and dietary weight‐loss programs lack magnitude and sustainability compared with bariatric surgery. A novel dietary weight‐loss program was developed to assist participants in achieving sustainable diet changes by building knowledge and skills in food self‐selection. Although the approach worked, a large variation was observed in outcome among participants. Objective: Determine factors affecting weight‐loss outcomes among participants to further improve the efficacy of the program. Methods: Participants attended 19 dietary educational sessions during a 1‐year intervention which included prescribed homework. Changes in weight, diet, and body composition were assessed. Results: Participants (n = 22) achieved mean body weight loss of −6.49(8.37%, p < 0.001) from baseline at 12 months. Nine participants (41%) achieved weight loss >5% of initial bodyweight; two reached a Body Mass Index 25 kg/m2. A large divergence in weight loss among participants was observed; successful (n = 9) achieved −12.9(9.6)% while unsuccessful achieved −2.03(2.78)%. Dietary protein and fiber density by 24‐h records showed a significant and inverse correlation with weight loss (%) throughout the program. Weight loss at 3 months and 12 months showed a strong correlation (r = 0.84). Participants with self‐reported depression lost significantly less weight than those without depression at 12 months (p < 0.03). Conclusions: Divergence in weight‐loss outcomes among the participants is likely due to a difference in successful dietary implementation. This paper extends the characteristic ratio approach using novel inequalities to ensure zero/low overshoot for linear‐time‐invariant systems with zeros. The extension provided by this paper is based on the maximally‐flatness property of a transfer function, where the square‐magnitude of the transfer function is ensured to be a low‐pass filter. In order to be able to design low‐order/fixed structure controllers, a partial pole‐assignment approach is used instead of the full pole‐assignment used in the Characteristic Ratio Assignment (CRA) method. The developed inequalities and additional stability conditions are combined into an optimization problem using time domain restrictions when necessary. Although the method given in the paper is general, particular inequalities are developed for PI and PI‐PD controller cases, due to their frequent use in industrial applications. Similarly, First‐Order‐Plus‐Delay‐Time (FOPDT) and Second‐Order‐Plus‐Delay‐Time (SOPDT) systems are considered specifically, since most of the practical systems can be approximated by one of these types. The study is extended to plants with uncertainties where a theorem is developed to decrease computation time dramatically. The benefits of the proposed methods are demonstrated by several examples. The multi‐environmental trials aid breeders in selecting the best genotypes for specific or general adaptability to different environments before commercial release. This study aimed to assess the stability of 13 new soybean pure lines, along with two controls, in terms of seed yield and important agronomic traits. The assessment was based on a completely randomized block design with three replications across four areas during 2020–2022. Various adaptability methods, including parametric, AMMI, GGE biplot, PCA, and SIIG were employed. The mixed analysis showed that the effects of environment, genotype, and genotype–environment (GE) interaction were significant for most studied traits. The AMMI showed the highest portion of environment (65.89%) in soybean seed yield. Based on all stability parameters, lines 2 and 5 were selected for their average seed yields of 3349 and 3142 kg ha−1, respectively. Additionally, lines 6 and 5 showed the most stability, yielding higher than the average, which were 2992 and 3142 kg ha−1, respectively, according to GGE biplot results. Furthermore, lines 2, 5, and 8 were identified as the ideal genotypes concerning seed yield and other agronomic traits, with high SIIG parameters and yields exceeding the average. Finally, the soybean line 5 was deemed the most suitable due to its higher yield, stability, and early maturity (128‐day growth period). Electrocrystallization is a promising method for controlled charge‐transfer complex (CTC) deposition on microfabricated electrodes for gas sensing applications. However, there remains a gap in our understanding of CTC electrodeposition. In this study, we focus on investigating the electrocrystallization of cobalt tetracyanoquinodimethane (Co‐TCNQ) on a microdisk electrode to elucidate and control the process. Leveraging the microelectrode technique, we conduct steady‐state measurements to observe nucleation and crystal growth dynamics, particularly in the early stages of electrocrystallization. We use cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry to examine Co‐TCNQ electrocrystallization under various electrolytic conditions. We identify electrocrystallization kinetics, ranging from electrokinetic to diffusion‐limited growth, governing the nucleation and growth of Co‐TCNQ crystals. Notably, we pinpoint the applied overpotential and precursor concentration range necessary for a single nucleation site on the microelectrode. Moreover, we demonstrate control over crystal orientation and morphology. Our findings reveal a nonclassical growth pathway for Co‐TCNQ crystals characterized by oriented attachment of small crystallites along the conductive long axis. Importantly, electrodeposited Co‐TCNQ on patterned microelectrodes exhibits selective sensing capabilities for nitrogen dioxide gas. Overall, this study sheds light on CTC electrodeposition through a proof‐of‐concept demonstration involving Co‐TCNQ electrodeposition on microelectrodes, presenting potential applications across diverse materials. Cation exchange is one of the most important classes of reactions controlling the soil solution composition for major ions. Modeling ion‐exchange equilibria is complicated by ternary solid‐phase interactions. The present study alleges that spurious ternary‐interactions can be reported when dilution of the exchanging ions by other ions on the solid‐phase is not accounted for in models. Ion‐exchange equilibria data from the NH4+–Ca2+–K+–vermiculite system is used to demonstrate that previous reports of ternary interactions in this system are an artifact of how solid‐phase mole fractions are defined; what mathematicians call "compositional incoherence." A graphical method to distinguish the effects of dilution from real chemical interactions is presented using mole fractions renormalizing in the ternary system so that they are defined the same way as they are in binary systems. Potassium was shown to not influence NH4+–Ca2+ exchange on vermiculite when these corrections for solid‐phase dilution were used. The hyporheic zone is a hotspot for biogeochemical cycling where interactions with mineral metals preserve the release and biodegradation of organic matter (OM). A small fraction of OM can still be exchanged between localized sediments and the overlying water column, and recent evidence suggests there exists a longitudinal structuring in sediment dissolved OM (DOM) chemistry across the continental United States (CONUS). In this study, we tested a hypothesis that water extractable sediment DOM chemistry could be explained by sediment metal contents and integrative watershed scale features at the CONUS scale. Crowdsourced samples were characterized for high resolution mass spectrometry and coupled with sediment metals determined via x‐ray fluorescence as well as with land cover and soil elemental information obtained from national databases. Our results highlight weak relationships between DOM chemistry and elemental composition at the CONUS scale indicating limited transferability of organo‐metal linkages into multi‐scale hydrobiogeochemical models. This article conducts a comprehensive financial analysis of the competitiveness of confectionery producers in Ukraine within the global confectionery market context. It aims to assess the challenges faced by Ukrainian producers and propose practical strategies to enhance their competitiveness. The research employs various methods, including the construction of a competitive market map and the application of the theory of effective competition. Competitiveness coefficients are calculated to evaluate the performance of key players. A SWOT analysis is conducted to identify strengths and weaknesses, and potential measures for increasing competitiveness are proposed. The global confectionery market has reached $298 billion in 2021, but Ukrainian producers have encountered obstacles, such as the COVID‐19 pandemic, rising production costs and geopolitical conflicts, leading to closures and reduced exports. Roshen emerges as the leader with a 24.7% market share in 2022, although all major companies experienced negative growth rates due to the war. Competitiveness coefficients also position Roshen at the forefront, whilst several other plants demonstrate significant potential. The article's practical significance stems from its data‐driven analysis of competitiveness, providing valuable insights and strategies for managers to improve the production and export capabilities of Ukrainian confectionery producers in the face of global market challenges. Pharyngocutaneous fistula (PCF) is a major complication after total laryngectomy, with significant morbidity and mortality. Whether mechanical stapler closure of the pharynx reduces fistula rates compared to hand‐sewn techniques remains unclear. We conducted an updated systematic review and meta‐analysis to clarify this question. Five databases were systematically searched from inception through November 2023 for studies comparing stapler versus suture closure for fistula outcomes after laryngectomy. Odds ratios (OR) were pooled using random‐effects models and fixed‐effects models. Subgroup and sensitivity analyses were performed. Risk of bias was appraised using NHLBI tools. Nine studies with 803 patients were included. Mechanical closure significantly reduced fistula incidence versus suture closure (OR = 0.57, 95% CI 0.34–0.95, p = 0.03). Subgroup analysis found that stapling's protective effect varied by patient age, country/region, linear stapler size and female percentage. Stapling reduced fistula odds by 80% in the Turkey subgroup (OR = 0.20, 95% CI 0.09–0.50) but showed no benefit in other regions. Patients <60 years showed an 84% fistula reduction with stapling (OR = 0.17, 95% CI 0.06–0.45), whereas older subgroups did not. Linear stapler size of 60 mm significantly reduced fistula occurrence while 75 mm did not. There was no evidence that low female percentage mitigated stapling benefits. Mechanical stapler closure after total laryngectomy meaningfully reduces the likelihood of postoperative PCF formation compared to hand‐sewn closure, especially for patients younger than 60 years old. Background: While evidence of hyperprogressive disease (HPD) continues to grow, the lack of a consensual definition obscures a proper characterization of HPD incidence. We examined how HPD incidence varies by the tumor type or the type of definition used. Methods: We searched PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library of Systematic Reviews, and Web of Science from database inception to June 21, 2022. Observational studies reporting HPD incidence, in patients diagnosed with solid malignant tumors and treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI), were included. Random‐effects meta‐analyses were performed, and all statistical tests were 2‐sided. Results: HPD incidence was 12.4% (95% CI 10.2%–15.0%) with evidence of heterogeneity (Q = 119.32, p < 0.001). Meta‐regression showed that the risk of developing HPD was higher in patients with advanced gastric cancer (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 10.83; 95% CI, 2.14–54.65; p < 0.001), hepatocellular carcinoma (adjusted OR, 7.99; 95% CI, 1.68–38.13; p = 0.006), non‐small cell lung cancer (adjusted OR, 7.14; 95% CI, 1.58–32.29; p = 0.005), and mixed or other types (adjusted OR, 5.09; 95% CI, 1.12–23.14, p = 0.018) than in patients with renal cell carcinoma. Across definitions, HPD defined as a tumor growth kinetics ratio ≥ 2 (adjusted OR, 1.82; 95% CI, 1.08–3.07; p = 0.025) based on the Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (RECIST) reported higher incidence than when HPD was defined as RECIST‐defined progressive disease and a change in the tumor growth rate (TGR) exceeding 50% (∆TGR > 50). Conclusions: The incidence of immunotherapy‐related HPD may vary across tumor types and definitions used, supporting the argument for a uniform and improved method of HPD evaluation for informed clinical decision‐making. In this study, wind characteristics and electricity generation potential from wind energy were investigated in the Bitlis‐Rahva region in eastern Turkey. Ten‐minute wind data from the Bitlis meteorological station were used in the study. The determination of the wind speed (WS) distribution was carried out using the WindPRO program together with the Weibull and Rayleigh distributions. R2, RMSE, and χ2 goodness‐of‐fit tests were used to measure the accuracy of the velocity distribution process. A digital elevation model of the power generation site was created to evaluate wind data and predict turbine performance. Wind power generation performance was evaluated using five different wind turbines (WTs). A power curve model was developed for the WTs to determine the capacity for energy generation. According to the error tests, it has been determined that the results obtained with the WindPRO program can represent the observed wind data most accurately. The results from the WindPRO program analysis showed an average annual WS of 3.26 m/s and a power density of 49.77 W/m2. Increasing height was found to increase WS and power density. The prevailing wind direction was found to be South‐Southwest with a frequency value of 27.5%. The largest capacity factor was obtained from the WT with the largest rotor diameter and rated power. Out of all the WTs examined, the turbine with the largest rated power and rotor diameter produced the greatest amount of energy. According to the capacity factor values calculated for the selected WTs, the region is not considered efficient for wind energy investments. However, as WS and power density increase with increasing altitude, it is thought that different higher parts of the region may be more efficient in terms of wind energy utilization. Introduction: Bipolar disorders (BD) are among the most significantly impairing of childhood and adolescent psychiatric disorders. Although BD symptoms may begin in adolescence, they are frequently not diagnosed until adulthood, and accordingly BD scales could aid diagnostic assessment in paediatric populations. This review aims to synthesis the evidence for the accuracy of BD symptom index tests for discriminating BD from non-BD (other diagnoses or healthy controls) in paediatric population. Additionally, several theoretically relevant moderators of diagnostic accuracy were evaluated., Methods: A systematic search across three databases were conducted from 1980 to 2022, augmented by grey literature database searches, citation chaining and contacting authors. Data from eligible studies were synthesized using meta-analysis. A multilevel model was fitted to account for nested effect sizes, with 31 potential moderators examined in univariate and multivariate models., Results: Twenty-Eight studies were eligible, yielding 115 effect sizes for analysis. Meta-analytic modelling indicated BD symptom index tests have a high diagnostic accuracy (g = 1.300; 95% CI: 0.982 - 1.619; p < .001) in paediatric population. Accuracy was relative to the type of comparison group, index test content, index test informant and index test's scale or subscale., Conclusions: Screening tests based on mania content, caregiver report and non-healthy comparison groups have clinical utility in identifying paediatric BD. Other informant-and-content combination may not accurately identify paediatric BD. Unlike healthy controls, tests derived from studies using non-healthy comparison groups, represent BD symptom non-specificity and BD symptom overlap with other disorders, providing external validity and clinical utility., (© 2024 The Author(s). This paper proposes a method for recognising the fault type using a set of diagnostic criteria. Existing approaches to the interpretation of dissolved gas analysis (DGA) results usually rely on single diagnostic criteria. The proposed method solves the problems of incomplete use of diagnostic information and discrepancies in the norms and criteria for recognising the same fault inherent in the existing methods. The feature of the method is the analysis of the compliance of the DGA results of the diagnosed equipment with the ones of the equipment with a confirmed diagnosis from the fault database. This approach outperforms the existing methods in the number of faults recognised, allowing a wider range of faults to be detected, including combined faults. In addition, the method provides an opportunity to identify possible causes and localise the fault. This feature is unique and provides a significant advantage when interpreting DGA results. The proposed method demonstrates significantly higher accuracy (100%) in recognising various fault types, including combined faults, in comparison to existing methods (about 50%). The proposed method has a 60% success rate in determining the cause and location of a fault, but this figure depends on the database with faults of various types used. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study of soil organic matter (SOM) can benefit from the use of Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, an analytical method that complements traditional fractionation and extraction methods. This review provides guidance on the use of diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform (DRIFT) in the mid‐infrared region (MIR: 4000–400 cm−1). Two distinct applications of DRIFT spectroscopy are reviewed: soil organic matter (1) characterization and (2) quantification. Characterization of SOM involves the qualitative to semi‐quantitative measurement of functional groups that constitute organic matter, and quantification employs chemometrics to predict fractions of SOM. Guidance on decision‐making in how methods are conducted based on sample type and research question, and on interpretation of results are provided. Tsunamis are a major hazard along many of the world's coastlines. To understand the impact of these events, a sufficiently long record of previous events is needed, which can be provided by their sedimentary deposits. A number of past events have left extensive sedimentary deposits that can be used to understand the hydrodynamics of the tsunami. The ca 8.15 ka Storegga submarine slide was a large, tsunamigenic mass movement off the coast of Norway. The resulting tsunami had estimated run‐up heights of around 10 to 20 m on the Norwegian coast, over 30 m in Shetland and 3 to 6 m on the Scottish mainland coast. New cores were taken from the Ythan Valley in North‐East Scotland, where Storegga tsunami deposits have previously been found. High‐resolution sedimentary analyses of the cores, combined with statistical (changepoint) analysis, shows signatures of multiple waves. Moreover, detailed CT scans of the erosional basal surface reveal sole marks called skim marks. Taken in conjunction with the grain size and sedimentary fabric characteristics of the tsunami deposits, this indicates that the flow exhibited a high‐concentration basal component, with an initial semi‐cohesive phase and that deposition was dominantly capacity driven. A multiple wave hypothesis is tested by creating a high‐resolution numerical model (metre‐scale) of the wave inundation, coupled to a previously published regional model. The inundation model confirms that multiple waves passed over the site in agreement with the sedimentological analysis. The sensitivity of the model to the reconstructed palaeocoastal geomorphology is quantitatively explored. It is concluded that local palaeogeomorphological reconstruction is key to understanding the hydrodynamics of a tsunami wave group in relation to its sedimentary deposit. Combining sedimentological data with high‐resolution inundation modelling is a powerful tool to help interpret the sedimentary record of tsunami events and hence to improve knowledge of their risks. We merge classical extreme value methods to extract high (high temperatures (HT)) and low (low temperatures (LT)) temperatures and form time series having at least one extreme value per year. Observed daily maximum and minimum temperature records are used from 4,797 quality‐controlled, global, surface stations over 1970–2019. We assess changes in the magnitude and frequency of extreme temperatures by introducing and applying novel methods that exploit the definition of stationarity. Analysis shows significant increasing (40.6% of the stations) and decreasing (41.1%) trends in the frequency of high and LT, respectively, and increasing trends in both high‐ and low‐temperature values (35.6% and 49.7%). Globally, HT and LT frequencies are increasing and decreasing, respectively, by 0.9% and 1.1% per year, relative to the expected frequencies under the assumption of stationarity. The global mean annual HT and LT magnitudes are increasing by 0.004 and 0.016°C/year compared to the expected ones under stationarity. The results indicate that the assumption of stationarity fails to explain the observed changes. The proposed methods are an alternative approach to classical extreme value methods and a useful tool to reveal changes in extremes in the era of earth‐system change. Plain Language Summary: We present a method which determines the extreme temperature series by combining the advantages of classical extreme value methods. In this, the series of extremes have at least one extreme value per year. We apply the approach to 4,797 stations of high and low daily temperatures globally and estimate their trends during 1970–2019. We find that during the last 50 years, high and, especially, low temperatures (LT) have become significantly warmer. Fewer low‐temperature events occur with time, while the number of high‐temperature events is increasing. The results indicate that extreme high and LT are non‐stationary. The presented method has potential applications in the statistical modeling of extreme values.
