Anthropogenic forcing caused the biodiversity loss and stability decline of communities. There is still controversy over whether the decline in biodiversity will lead to a decrease in community stability. The stability of biological communities is related to both biodiversity and structure, and this paper aims to reveal the human impacts on diatom communities' biodiversity and structure. We studied the richness, β‐diversity and network distance of diatom communities in Qinghai‐Xizang, Yunnan‐Sichuan and Lower Yangtze River Basin, China through empirical dataset and simulation method. The results showed that the diatoms richness in the Qinghai‐Xizang and the Yunnan‐Sichuan region was lower and the network distance was higher than that of the Lower Yangtze River Basin. β‐diversity in the Lower Yangtze River Basin was the lowest and the diatom network distance responds negatively to human population densities in China. The simulation showed that the network distance kept constant during random species loss, and declined while specialist species were lost or replaced by generalist species. The results suggested diatom communities' homogeneity and stability decline were associated with human activities. Human impacts may cause biodiversity loss targeted to specialist species or no biodiversity loss while generalist species replace those specialist species. The security of natural gas supply and demand has always been an important topic, and as a result, analyzing and predicting the supply and demand of natural gas has received considerable attention from researchers. Numerous studies have extensively researched the supply and demand of natural gas. The main purpose of this study is to explore the supply‐demand balance mechanism for natural gas security. A system dynamics model is constructed to assess the supply and demand of natural gas in Sichuan Province, China. A new system dynamics model based on domestic gas, production gas, ecological environment and natural gas supply is proposed. The study considers four scenarios: natural development, economic priority development, environmental priority development and coordinated development. The results show that the rapid economic development has led to an excessive environmental carrying capacity, a larger gap between natural gas supply and demand, a decline in the quality of life of residents, and even affected the energy security of Sichuan Province and China. The findings also show that people's overprotection of the environment can lead to slow economic development, which prevents it from achieving its desired goals. The coordinated development scenario in this paper not only ensures the production of natural gas and the quality of life of residents, but also is an optimal scheme with low energy consumption and pollution. According to the research conclusions, considering the overall situation of China's energy security and the situation in Sichuan Province, the author proposes reforms from the supply and demand sides of natural gas. The rapid development of farmers' cooperatives in rural China cannot be separated from government support. To ensure the growth of farmers' cooperatives, the Chinese government uses it as a key performance indicator for its local institutions. Superficially, rural China's cooperative population and membership size witnessed rapid growth during the first decade after the Farmers' Specialized Cooperatives Law was enacted in 2007; however, such government intervention also leads to non‐standard phenomena due to market distortion. Using nationally representative survey data from 504 cooperatives in Jiangsu, Jilin, and Sichuan provinces, this paper provides a reliable estimate of the "shell cooperative" rate around 2014. The empirical study sheds further light on the role of government during the period of rapid but chaotic growth by a subset containing 241 marketing cooperatives. Results show that direct administrative intervention leads to the emergence of many shell cooperatives (approximately 37%). Further study also confirms that task‐oriented policy support is only positively associated with the nominal coverage ratio but has no significant relationship with cooperatives' function. This study provides new insights into the formation of shell cooperatives and suggests that direct administrative intervention may not be a good strategy for promoting the sustainable development of farmers' cooperatives. The development of foreign electricity markets has been relatively complete, while China's electricity market started late and the design of the market mechanism needs to be improved, so the selection of a suitable market model and the design of the market mechanism in hydropower‐rich regions is conducive to the healthy development of the electricity market. While most of the first eight pilot regions in China have entered the long‐period continuous operation stage, and all the second batch of six power spot pilots have started the simulation trial run. However, the construction of power markets in hydropower‐rich regions of China, Sichuan, and Yunnan, still faces multiple problems to be solved, such as ensuring the reliability of medium‐ and long‐term power supply, improving the efficiency of hydropower resources utilization and consumption scale, and maintaining the stability of market prices. In this paper, the authors establish a multi‐scale joint clearing model for different market models considering both long‐term and short‐term operation strategies, and conduct simulations of different market models at different time scales to compare and analyze the optimization results and electricity price fluctuations of different market models. It can stabilize the market price and reasonably reflect the true value of hydropower, and also promote the consumption of clean energy and guarantee the reliability of power supply in the medium and long terms. Finally, suggestions are made for the selection of electricity market models, the security of energy supply and the design of sustainable development mechanisms for hydropower in hydropower‐rich regions such as Yunnan and Sichuan in China, with a view to providing useful references for the construction of China's electricity market. In China, there is a "psy‐boom," which is understood as the rapid increase in the provision of psychological services and interest in psychological concepts since the initiation of market reforms. This is a heavily gendered phenomenon. This paper seeks to explore why women are drawn into the psy‐boom and what sustains their participation in it. Following a year of fieldwork engaging in various forms of psychotherapy training in the city of Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan province, China, the paper looks in detail at three women who engage in the psy‐boom. The psy‐boom creates a space for these women to try to articulate complex and often competing desires thrown up by the gendered circumstances in which they find themselves. More than 50 earthquakes occurred in the Luding region, including a 6.8‐magnitude earthquake on September 5, 2022, which induced huge amounts of geological disasters. As the main triggered factors for the geological disasters, the vegetation, precipitation and temperature show regular changes on the time axis. Thus, this paper based on the spatial–temporal evolution of the precipitation, temperature and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI), focuses on the susceptibility of the Luding area using the weighted information content method (ICM) and analytic hierarchy process (AHP) for the post‐earthquake regional planning and reconstruction. In the Luding area, it was found that there were 18 debris flow gullies, and 470 geological disasters scattered in the debris flow gullies. The NDVI of the study area has been declining in recent years, with only about 12% of the NDVI increasing from 2015 to 2020. From 2011 to 2015, the annual cumulative precipitation has been dropping overall, while the July average temperature has increasing quadratic functions after decreasing trend. Furthermore, the studied area's geological hazards susceptibility was classified into five categories, with extremely low susceptibility accounting for 5.82%, low susceptibility accounting for 13.61%, moderate susceptibility accounting for 38.54%, high susceptibility accounting for 39.96% and extremely high susceptibility accounting for 2.08%. The geological disasters in moderate, high and extremely high susceptibility accounted for approximately 95.08%, and the covered area of geological disasters in moderate, high and extremely high susceptibility accounted for 88.06%. Through the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve of the model verification found the AUC = 0.743. In the search for precursors to earthquakes, correlation has been found between geochemical characteristics of soil gases and seismic activity. In this paper we present evidence that seismic waves can trigger emission of soil radon (Rn) and carbon dioxide (CO2). An active experiment was performed in two fault zones in China, the Annighe fault in Sichuan province and the Xiadian fault in Heibei province. An active seismic source was used to generate seismic waves at 10 m depth in wells within bedrock. Rn and CO2 detectors were placed around the wells at a distance of ∼1 m for observing the effects of the seismic waves on the emission of the gases. The observations confirm that the seismic waves have a significant and direct effect on the concentration and flux of soil radon and carbon dioxide. When the seismic events were triggered, the observed concentrations of Rn and CO2 immediately increased and reached peak values within 5–50 min and 30–60 min, with corresponding increases of Rn and CO2 concentrations by 10.5%–238.7% and 3.1%–54.1%, respectively. The measured concentrations and flux of CO2 and Rn after the passage of the seismic waves showed strong correlation, confirming the suggestion that CO2 is the carrier gas for Rn. To the best of our knowledge this is the first direct, in‐situ measurement of gas emission caused by the passage of seismic waves and provides important constraints for better understanding of geochemical earthquake precursors. Plain Language Summary: Observed geochemical properties of soil gases migrated from the deep Earth can be used to survey seismicity, volcanic activity and emission of greenhouse gases. However, due to difficulty in natural earthquake prediction, most observations on the geochemical effects linked to seismic activity are conducted after or away from naturally occurring events, with the effects normally inferred from seismic parameters. In this study, an active seismic source based on methane gaseous detonation was employed to artificially produce seismic events along two fault zones, and in‐situ measurements of concentrations and flux of radon (Rn) and carbon dioxide (CO2) were conducted. These observations showed strong correlation between concentrations and flux of CO2 and Rn after the events, in agreement with the hypothesis that CO2 is the carrier gas for Rn in tectonically active settings. In the network‐based on‐site earthquake early warning system (EEWS), the 'blind zone', namely the zone where the issued warning arrives later than the destructive S and surface waves, is one of the challenges affecting its effectiveness. The 'blind zone' is determined by the interstation distance, or equivalently the density of seismic stations, of the network. In this paper, we suggest a practical approach according to which, when in a region a temporary increase of seismic hazard is declared, additional stations are deployed in such a way that the blind zone is temporarily reduced. In the procedure, the time‐dependent neo‐deterministic seismic hazard assessment (TD‐NDSHA) plays a vital role in the identification of the regions potentially exposed to high macroseismic intensities. As a showcase example, we consider the scenario of year 2014 at the Sichuan‐Yunnan border of southwest China. The TD‐NDSHA is based on the standard NDSHA procedure at regional scale (bedrock conditions), with the 'controlling earthquakes' defined on the basis of the Annual Consultation. We show that the 'blind zone' can be reduced in the identified areas of interest (e.g., MMI ≥ VI), by deploying a limited number of additional seismic stations. In the case where false alarms can be tolerated, significant reduction of the 'blind zone' can be implemented by moving from a network‐based EEWS to a single‐sensor‐based EEWS and skipping the process of location and magnitude‐determination/prediction procedures. This paper describes and illustrates the morphological traits of Impatiens zhaojueensis Q. Luo (Balsaminaceae), a new species from the Sichuan Province of southwestern China. Using a scanning electron microscope (SEM), the micromorphological characteristics of its pollen grains and seeds are also described. The new species is closely related to Impatiens baishaensis, but it has larger flowers, obround dorsal petals, somewhat clawed lateral united petals, obround or obround‐dolabriform distal lobes and the ornamentation on the pollen grains has wider meshes. Non‐grain cropland is a typical phenomenon with some common characteristics globally. As the most populous country, China's non‐grain cropland threatens global food supply stability and affects food production sustainability under the current complex situation of international food security. This paper used Sichuan Province, China, to explore the formation mechanism of non‐grain cropland and its potential impact on sustainable productivity, given the regional environment complexity and socioeconomic representativeness. High‐precision land survey data were used to detect multiscale non‐grain influencing factors and discuss non‐grain impacts on soil state to fill the knowledge gap on microlevel development of non‐grain issues. Results show that rotation type is the region's most abundant and widely distributed cropland type, accounting for about 59.38% of the total cropland area; the second is abandonment type. Urbanization indicators are the common factors affecting the non‐grain spatial distribution on the global scale; environmental variables' impact on non‐grain shows significant differences in geographical locations on the local scale. Overall, cash type and intercrop type aim at improving production conditions. Rotation type and fallow type mostly occur in areas with low production capacity and are prominently driven by policies. Abandonment type is subject to terrain constraints, production conditions, and social economy. Additionally, non‐grain trends have not caused significant damage to soil sustainable productivity except for the positive promotion of field biodiversity. Non‐grain cropland can be divided into three clusters according to the corresponding average soil fertility state, rotation, intercrop, cash, abandonment, and fallow. Neoproterozoic strata are widely developed in the Upper Yangtze region of South China, among which the Sinian Dengying Formation has been discovered with numerous large gas fields in the Sichuan Basin, and hence they have become an essential domain for natural gas exploration and development. The early‐to‐middle Neoproterozoic Nanhua System and Doushantuo Formation are characterized by rifting deposits in the northeastern margin of Sichuan Basin, but their depositional succession and sequence architectures are still unclear, which has largely restricted our understanding of the resource potential of these strata. In this paper, based on the outcrops of the Neoproterozoic Nanhua System and Doushantuo Formation in the northeastern margin of Sichuan Basin, we describe the stratigraphic distribution and sedimentary evolutionary characteristics, and establish the regional stratigraphic framework, sedimentary cycle and evolutionary sequence of the Nanhua System and Doushantuo Formation. The results show that the lithology of the Nanhua System and Doushantuo Formation is primarily composed of conglomerate, conglomeratic sandstone, medium‐fine sandstone, siltstone, mudstone, shale and tillite; a variety of sedimentary facies including alluvial fan, river, delta, coastal shore, shelf, basin and tillite were developed; five third‐order sequences could be identified, representing multiple cycles of marine transgression and regression. The climate during the deposition of the Nanhua System and Doushantuo Formation underwent from a warm and humid pre‐glacial period through cold and arid multiple glacial periods to a warm and humid interglacial period, which consequently formed a sedimentary sequence of alluvial fan and fluvial delta to tillite during the early period, shelf basin to tillite during the middle period and slope basin to delta facies during the late period. In terms of a plan view, the depositional pattern is composed of alluvial fans and deltas at the proximal part of the rift, deep‐water shelf to slope at the middle part of the rift and slope to basin facies at the central part of the rift. Finally, we propose that large‐scale distribution of high‐quality source rocks developed in the interglacial Datangpo and Doushantuo formations, while fluvial‐deltaic reservoirs occurred in the Gucheng, Nantuo and Doushantuo formations, thus showing favourable resource potential and exploration prospects within the Sichuan Basin. The southwest vortices (SWVs) are a unique type of mesoscale vortex that frequently induce torrential rainfall in China. In this study, we focused a long‐lived quasi‐stationary SWV, which was the primary system for producing an extremely heavy rainstorm within/around Sichuan (the maximum hourly precipitation was ~103.8 mm) in Mid July 2021. After reproduced the SWV's formation by using Weather Research and Forecasting model, we conducted trajectory analyses and topography sensitivity simulations to understand the effects of complicated topography on the vortex's formation. It is found that, the regions south and southwest of the SWV acted as the most important source regions for the air clusters that formed the SWV (proportion ≥ 65%), and the air clusters originated from the upper layer contributed the most (≥60%). Of these, the air clusters sourced from the upper layer southwest and south of the SWV played the most important role in the SWV's formation, as their increase in cyclonic vorticity and their contributions to trajectory number and vorticity were all much larger than those of the others. Sensitivity simulations indicated that, detailed topography features around the Sichuan Basin were crucial in determining the structure, intensity and precipitation of the SWV, whereas, the topography features were not a decisive factor for the SWV's formation. The Sichuan golden snub‐nosed monkey (Rhinopithecus roxellana) is a rare and endangered primate species endemic to China. Conducting research on the population distribution changes of the Sichuan golden snub‐nosed monkey holds paramount importance for its conservation. Our study represented a comprehensive investigation into the population distribution of the Sichuan snub‐nosed monkey by integrating data acquired from field surveys, protected areas, and historical records and using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to explore changes in distribution across various time periods, including the historical (the Mid‐to‐Late Pleistocene), recent (1980–2000), and current (2001–2023). The research findings demonstrate a significant shift in the distribution range of the Sichuan golden snub‐nosed monkey compared to historical time frames. Notably, between 1980 and 2000, there was a sharp decline in distribution area. Analyses revealed that the southernmost distribution county for the Sichuan golden snub‐nosed monkey in Sichuan Province has shifted northward from Huili to Kangding. Furthermore, distribution changes in Sichuan Province are not solely characterized by a reduction in habitat area but also by a decrease in vertical distribution zones. Regions in the northeastern part of Sichuan with elevations below 1000 m, such as Guang'an City, Bazhong City, Dazhou City, and Nanchong City, no longer support the presence of the Sichuan golden snub‐nosed monkey. At present, the distribution range is confined to elevations between 1000 and 4000 m in the two major mountain ranges of Qionglai and Minshan. A holistic approach is required to safeguard this species. The establishment of movement corridors can play a critical role in enhancing the overall connectivity of current distribution areas. Additionally, we propose implementing a hierarchical approach to protect current habitats. Spatially differentiated conservation measures should be implemented to prioritize the protection of key habitats while simultaneously monitoring anthropogenic activities in non‐key habitats to prevent further fragmentation and isolation of the monkey's distribution areas. Late Llandovery and Wenlock conodonts are still inadequately documented in China, with data collected chiefly from the Baizitian section in Yanbian County, Sichuan Province, south‐west China. A collection of over 32 000 conodont elements was recovered from 38 samples from the Xiabaizitian and Shangbaizitian formations at this classic locality. The conodont fauna is dominated by cosmopolitan species and can be assigned to 50 species representing 17 genera. Of these, one new species, Apsidognathus yanbianensis sp. nov., is proposed herein. Six conodont zones are recognized in this section, including the Pterospathodus eopennatus Zone, the Pt. amorphognathoides angulatus Taxon‐range Zone of the Pt. a. amorphognathoides Superzone, the Kockelella ranuliformis Zone, the Kockelella walliseri Taxon‐range Zone, and the Kockelella patula Taxon‐range Zone, in ascending order. These zones can be correlated with other conodont zones around the world based on the occurrences of the stratigraphically diagnostic species. Moreover, the stratigraphical ranges of Pterospathodus enable greater understanding of the correlation of the Telychian guide taxa. The conodont biodiversity changes and faunal turnover across the Silurian Ireviken Bioevent are here documented for the first time in the Baizitian section from the South China palaeoplate. Geochemical mapping is a crucial tool that can provide valuable insights for a wide range of applications, including mineral resources prospecting, environmental impact assessment, geological process understanding, and climate change research. Despite its significance, geochemical mapping requires spatial modeling based on sparse, heterogeneous, and potentially inaccurate data sets. Moreover, the underlying geological processes are often imperfectly understood. Therefore, uncertainty quantification (UQ) is vital in geochemical mapping to ensure accurate and reliable results, ultimately facilitating well‐informed decision‐making. In this contribution, we distinguish two primary types of uncertainties: systemic and stochastic. We identify the key sources of uncertainties in geochemical mapping and review the techniques that have been employed or hold potential for uncertainty quantification, communication, visualization, and sensitivity analysis. This contribution also illustrates the general procedure of UQ in geochemical mapping by a case study of mapping geochemical anomalies associated with gold mineralization in northwestern Sichuan Province, China. We also explore potential strategies for mitigating the critical uncertainties, such as gathering more geochemical data, developing more effective models, enhancing our understanding of the geochemical dispersion process, or leveraging other thematic information or knowledge. Future research should prioritize addressing underexplored uncertainties and implementing more practical applications to validate the UQ procedure in geochemical mapping. Using a case study in northwestern Sichuan Province, China, we illustrate the general procedure of uncertainty quantification by mapping geochemical anomalies related to gold mineralization. The volatile compounds of fig (Ficus carica) are influenced by various factors. To explore the composition and difference of volatile compounds among figs, gas chromatography ion mobility spectrometry (GC‐IMS) was used to study the volatiles of figs from various regions, diverse cultivars, and after treatment with different drying methods. Aldehydes were the main volatile compounds in Bojihong from Shandong, while esters, ketones, and alcohols were the main volatile compounds in Bojihong from Sichuan and Guangdong. The volatiles of Branswick and Banane were similar, but differed significantly from those of Bojihong. Drying had the most significant effect on fig volatiles, which greatly reduced the content of benzaldehyde, (E)‐2‐hexenal, 2‐methylbutanal aldehydes, lost the content of esters such as isoamyl acetate, butyl acetate, ethyl butyrate, and generated some ketones and ethers. Camponotus japonicus (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) is an omnivorous social insect which builds sizable colonies in sparse woodlands or cropland and spreads across multiple climatic zones in the Chinese mainland. This study aims to reveal the role of climate changes and geological events in driving the genetic structure of social insect populations by investigating the phylogenetics and historical demography of C. japonicus in the Chinese mainland. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted based on the mitochondria DNA dataset using MrBayes and IQ‐TREE. We constructed a haplotype network, calculated analyses of molecular variance, estimated the divergence time, and reconstructed the maximum clade credibility tree. Mismatch distribution and Bayesian skyline plots were used to infer historical population fluctuations. Additionally, ecological niche modeling was employed to predict the potential distribution of the species during the present, mid‐holocene, and last glacial maximum periods in the Chinese mainland. The phylogenetic tree and median‐joining network analyses support the presence of four distinct lineages in C. japonicus. These lineages exhibit significant genetic differentiation and limited gene flow. The divergence among the four lineages began in the early Pleistocene, approximately 1.41 million years ago (Ma). Subsequently, the central lineage diverged from both the northern and southern lineages around 1.16 Ma, while the northern and southern lineages diverged from each other at approximately 1.07 Ma. Population expansion was observed in the southern, central, and northern lineages prior to the last glacial maximum, while the Yunnan‐Sichuan lineage experienced a slight increase in population size in more recent times. The predicted distribution of the species corresponds well with the actual distribution. Furthermore, the current suitable habitat areas in northern Xinjiang, southern Tibet, and the southeast coastal regions have significantly decreased compared to the last glacial maximum and the mid‐holocene periods. Our results suggest that climate oscillations and geological events play an important role in driving genetic patterns and differentiation of C. japonicus. Mountain barriers isolate populations from each other, hinder the flow of genes, and effectively prevent the spread of this species. But at the same time, it also formed refugia at low altitudes areas such as Qinling‐Bashan Mountains and Yanshan‐Taihang Mountains and provide suitable habitats during glaciation. This study provides a good model for understanding how complex climate changes and geological events affect population genetic differentiation of social insects in the Chinese mainland. Climate change is a major factor affecting biodiversity and species distribution, particularly of montane species. Species may respond to climate change by shifting their range to higher elevations. The southeastern Qinghai‐Tibetan Plateau (QTP) and the Hengduan Mountains are considered as global biodiversity hotspots. However, information on the response of maple species to climate change in these regions was limited. Therefore, we selected two maple species that occur there and assessed changes in their habitat suitability under past, present and future climate scenarios in Biomod2. The results showed that temperature seasonality (bio4) was the most critical factor influencing their potential distributions. The distribution of potentially suitable habitat for Acer caesium and Acer stachyophyllum was predicted to be larger during the LGM compared to the present. Under the current climate scenario, the largest areas of potentially suitable habitat for these species were mainly located in southeastern Tibet, the Hengduan Mountains in northwestern Yunnan and western Sichuan, the Qinling‐Daba Mountains in southern Gansu and the Wumeng‐Daliang Mountains in northeastern Yunnan, western Guizhou and southeastern Sichuan. Under future climate change scenarios, the predicted loss of suitable habitat areas for these two species ranged from 13.78% to 45.71% and the increase ranged from 18.88% to 57.98%, with an overall increasing trend. The suitable habitat areas were predicted to shift towards the eastern parts of the QTP under both the pessimistic and optimistic future climate change scenarios in the 2050s and the 2070s, which became evident as global warming intensified, particularly in the eastern QTP and the Hengduan Mountains. Our results highlight the possibility that the diverse topography along altitudinal gradients in the QTP and the Hengduan Mountains may potentially mitigate the range contraction of mountain plants in response to climate warming. These findings provide a basis for planning conservation areas, planting and species conservation in the mountainous areas of southern China under the anticipated global warming. Seasonal soil freezing (F) and freeze–thaw cycles (FTCs) are common natural phenomena in high latitude or altitude areas of the world, and seriously affect plant physiological processes. However, studies on the effect of soil F and FTCs on fine roots are less common, especially in subalpine coniferous forests of western Sichuan, China.We set up a controlled experiment in growth chambers to explore the effects of F and FTCs on low‐order fine roots of Picea asperata and differential responses of first‐order roots and the first three root orders (1st, 2nd and 3rd order roots combined as a unit).Soil F and FTCs resulted in serious damage to cell membranes and root vitality of low‐order fine roots, accompanied by increased MDA content and O2·− production. FTCs had a stronger effect than F treatment. In turn, low‐order fine roots are the unit that responds to cold stress. These roots had increased unsaturated fatty acid contents, antioxidant enzyme activities, osmolytes and plant hormones contents when acclimation to cold stress. The first‐order roots were more sensitive to cold stress than the combined first three root orders for several processes (e.g. antioxidant enzymes, osmolytes and hormones) because of their specific structure and physiological activity.This study explains physiological differences in responses of fine roots of different root orders to seasonal soil freezing, which will improve the understanding of fine root heterogeneity and support agriculture and forest management. On 20–22 July 2012, a severe rainstorm occurred in the Sichuan basin of Southwest China and in the Beijing area of North China. This rainstorm was related to the activities of a Tibetan Plateau vortex (TPV) and Southwest China vortex (SWCV). By using radiosonde, satellite brightness temperature, and NCEP_FNL data, we investigated the helicity characteristics nearly the vortexes and their effect on convection. Results showed that (1) strong precipitation in the Sichuan basin was mainly related to the interaction between the TPV and SWCV, while strong precipitation in the Beijing area was related to the northward movement of a cyclonic vortex caused by a split in the SWCV. (2) During the occurrence of the rainstorm, four mesoscale convection systems (MCSs) were observed. Their vertical structure showed a positive vorticity–negative divergence in the lower levels, and negative vorticity–positive divergence in the upper levels, accompanied by vertical upward movement. This was an important factor in the development and maintenance of MCSs, as well as one of the mechanisms for producing heavy precipitation. On this basis, we further discussed the effect of helicity on the MCSs in the atmospheric environment with rotational characteristics. A wet‐to‐dry shift in summer over the Sichuan Basin (SCB) during the late 20th century was noticed by previous studies. However, this study found that summer precipitation over SCB significantly increases during the past two decades, with an abrupt change point around 2011/2012. An anomalous cyclone over Lake Baikal, accompanied by an anticyclone over southern China, is responsible for the increase in SCB precipitation by inducing anomalous upper‐level divergence, mid‐level ascending motion and moisture convergence. Such atmospheric circulation anomalies are closely associated with the sea surface temperature (SST) warming over the Barents–Kara Sea (BKS). Observational analyses and model experiments indicate that the SST warming over the BKS warms local atmosphere and weakens meridional air temperature gradients over northern Asia and induces local anomalous easterlies, which further induce the anomalous cyclone over Lake Baikal that favours SCB precipitation. Additionally, the inhomogeneous warming over Europe increases local meridional air temperature gradients, enhances atmospheric baroclinicity and intensifies local transient eddy activities over central Europe. The intensified transient eddy activities generate negative geopotential height tendency anomalies over northern Europe, which can further excite a Rossby wave train that directly influences SCB precipitation, and can warm the atmosphere above the Kara Sea that indirectly influences SCB precipitation. With the increasing severity of climate change, the unevenness of economic development has resulted in the heterogeneity of carbon peaking in different regions. Under the dual‐carbon target strategy, the peak research in China's less developed provinces is significant. This study uses the emission factor method to calculate the carbon emission inventory of an economically underdeveloped province (Sichuan) and 15 major cities from 2010 to 2020. The carbon emissions in the Sichuan province showed a fluctuating trend, and the emission intensity decreased year by year. This study analyzes the decoupling effect of carbon emissions and GDP gold content (GDPgc). Sichuan's economy and carbon emissions have not been strongly decoupled. Finally, under three scenarios, it forecasts the peak carbon emissions in Sichuan province. Sichuan province will peak in 2029 (361.74 million tons) under the simultaneous peak scenario. A number of goose breeds are raised commercially in China. However, the data on the slaughter performance of the goose breeds and the nutritional value of their meats lack a thorough comparative analysis. In this systematic review, the slaughter performance of the goose breeds and nutritional value of their meats were comparatively analyzed to provide an overview of the characteristics of the goose breeds raised commercially in China. Fifteen goose breeds were selected from 27 research articles published up to January 2022 on the slaughter performance of the goose breeds raised commercially in China and their nutrient composition after literature searching, literature screening, variety selection, and data collation. The slaughter indexes of the goose breeds and the basic nutrient composition, amino acid composition, and fatty acid composition of the meats of the goose breeds were standardized using min–max normalization and compared. The results suggest that the slaughter indexes and nutritional indicators of the meats of Yangzhou white goose, Xupu goose, Landaise geese, and Sichuan white goose are more balanced than those of the meats of the other goose breeds. The results of this review can lay the foundation for optimizing the breeding methods of the commercially raised goose breeds and processing methods of the meats of the geese. © 2022 Society of Chemical Industry. Archaeologists frequently invoke climate change as a driving cause for ancient expansions of human populations, but geomorphic changes can also play an important role in opening or closing routes of migration. In China, archaeological evidence demonstrates that valleys in the Jialing River's watershed were important routes for the movement of Neolithic populations from the catchments of the Yellow River to the Yangtze River. Here, we examine how fluvial geomorphological regime shifts may have also influenced the migration pathways and adaptive strategies of Neolithic people into the Sichuan Basin by using a combination of sedimentological and palynological analysis at Luojiaba, an archaeological site located on one of the eastern tributaries of the Jialing River. The results show that people settled on seasonally stable landforms, including the Zhonghe River floodplain at Luojiaba (5300–4800 cal. B.P.). They carried out fishing and hunting activities on the front edge of the floodplain close to the river channel and built dwelling features on the higher ground at the back edge of the floodplain, which was not affected by seasonal floods. We hypothesize that during the Holocene Climatic Optimum before 5500 cal. B.P., high water levels as well as severe surface erosion caused by a strong East Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) blocked pathways into the upper reaches of the Jialing River watershed. Only after a series of cold, dry climate events driven by a decrease in EASM intensity ca. 5500–5000 cal. B.P. did water levels recede significantly. This allowed alluvial aggradation to occur, which created floodplains and terraces along the valley that may have opened a new route for the migration into the Sichuan Basin. Our results reveal the human–environment dynamics surrounding Luojiaba in the uplands of southwestern China and highlight the impact of coupled climatic‐geomorphic regime shifts on human settlement and subsistence strategies, across both space and time. The original description of Natrix leonardi (currently Rhabdophis leonardi) by Frank Wall in 1923, based on a specimen from the "Upper Burma Hills," lacked important morphological details that have complicated the assignment of recently collected material. Furthermore, although the holotype was never lost, its location has been misreported in one important taxonomic reference, leading to further confusion. We report the correct repository of the holotype (Natural History Museum, London), together with its current catalog number. We also describe key features of that specimen that were omitted from the original description, and provide new details on the morphology of the species, including sexual dichromatism unusual for the genus, based upon specimens from southern Sichuan, China. Rhabdophis leonardi is distinguished from its congeners by the following characters: 15 or 17 DSR at midbody and 6 supralabials; distinct annulus around the neck, broad and red in males, and narrow and orange with a black border in females; dorsal ground color light green or olive; some lateral and dorsal scales possessing black edges, the frequency of black edges gradually increasing from anterior to posterior, forming irregular and ill‐defined transverse black bands; eye with prominent green iris; black ventral spots with a red edge, most numerous at midbody but extending halfway down the length of the tail. In southwestern China, this species is frequently found at 1730–2230 m elevation. It has been documented to prey upon anuran amphibians, including toads. A recently published phylogenetic analysis showed this species to be deeply nested with the genus Rhabdophis, as a member of the R. nuchalis Group. That analysis also revealed the existence of two closely related but geographically distinct subclades in the molecular analysis, one of which may represent an unnamed taxon. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Panxi area in Sichuan Province is the main area for the production of truffles in China, and several species of truffle are known to exist in this region. Nevertheless, it is unclear what the differences in chemical composition between the truffles are. Using an ultra‐high‐performance liquid chromatography quadrupole/orbitrap high‐resolution mass spectrometry coupled with Compound Discoverer 3.0, we identified chemical components in three mainly known truffles from the Panxi region. Further analysis of chemical composition differences was conducted using principal component analysis, and orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis. Note that, 78.9% of the variance was uncovered by the principal component analysis model. As a result of the orthogonal partial least squares discriminant analysis model, the three species of truffles (Tuber pesudohimalayense, Tuber indicum, and Tuber sinense) from Panxi were better discriminated, with R2X, R2Y, and Q2 being 0.821, 0.993, and 0.947, respectively. In this study, 87 components were identified. T. pesudohimalayense contained significantly higher levels of nine different compounds than the other two species. Hence, it was possible to identify similarities and differences between three species of truffles from Panxi in terms of chemical composition. This can be used as a basis for quality control. Extreme persistent precipitation is becoming increasingly common globally, and persistent extreme regional precipitation events (PERPEs) pose a particularly serious threat to humans and environmental systems. This study investigated total precipitation (TP), daytime precipitation (DP), and night‐time precipitation (NP) in southwest China (SWC) during 1961–2019. The occurrence of TP, DP, and NP was analysed under the conditions of persistence over 1–5 days, temporal persistence over >2 days, and temporal nonpersistence over ≤2 days, and spatiotemporal overlap for at least 3 days (i.e., a PERPE) using the objective identification technique for regional extreme events. The results indicated the following. (a) Annual maximum daily precipitation ≥200 (100) mm in terms of TP (NP) was recorded mainly in the Sichuan Basin (SCB) and eastern parts of the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau (YGP), and it occurred mostly in summer. For DP, annual maximum daily precipitation of ≥100 mm was recorded throughout SWC, and it occurred mainly in winter in the Henduan Mountains, summer in the SCB, and spring in western parts of the YGP. (b) The magnitudes of NP and DP differed for events persisting for 1–5 days. The average amount of precipitation with temporal persistence increased during 1961–2019 for TP, DP, and NP. However, the frequency of occurrence of events with temporal persistence increased more in comparison with that of events with temporal nonpersistence. Overall, the frequency of occurrence of events with temporal persistence or temporal nonpersistence in the western SCB and eastern YGP increased more for TP and NP than for DP. (c) In the study period, 22, 44, and 4 PERPEs were detected for TP, NP, and DP, respectively, occurring mainly in the SCB, indicating that TP was dominated by night‐time PERPEs. These findings improve understanding of PERPEs changes in SWC and provide scientific support for implementation of measures intended to prevent and mitigate extreme flood events and waterlogging. Impatiens sikaiensis Q. Luo & Y. Yuan, a new species of the genus Impatiens from Zhaojue County, Sichuan, China, is described in detail with its morphological characteristics, photographs and physical drawings. The species resembles Impatiens uniflora morphologically but can be distinguished from the latter by its yellow flowers; ovate bracts with long‐cuspidate apex, 5–9 mm long; lateral sepals 6–12 mm long; dorsal petals with a narrowly cristate swelling at abaxial mid‐vein, and a rough tip at the apex. The micro‐morphological features and surface patterning of the pollen grains and seeds of the new species were examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). This revealed that the pollen grains of the new species typically have 5 angles and 5 germ furrows, which has not before been reported in the species of Impatiens commonly found in China. Solenopsis invicta Buren, also known as the red imported fire ant (RIFA), has had a very negative effect on biological diversity, public safety, agriculture, and economics. Because of the growth in global trade, the RIFA threat to China will continue to increase. To better understand characteristics of newly observed distributions of RIFA, we studied the effects of three factors including provincial areas, landcover types, and climatic conditions on the 130 new occurrence records in 2021. (1) We found that RIFA preferred to invade Sichuan and Guangxi, and provinces that are large agricultural producers were more vulnerable to invasive RIFA. Guangdong was the most damaged province, and wealthy provinces, especially southeastern coastal provinces, were more at risk and suffered a bigger loss from the further RIFA threat. (2) Compared with other habitats, plantations received more significant damage from invasive RIFA. (3) Areas with an annual precipitation of 516.4 mm, annual average temperature of 18.6°C, or elevation of 569.9 m had a great abundance of invasive RIFA. Our study suggests that stringent inspection and quarantine measures are necessary in new occurrence areas to prevent further RIFA outbreak, and highlights the need for cross‐provincial cooperation and national coordination to slow its spread. A precise finite‐fault model including the fault geometry and slip distribution is essential to understand the physics of an earthquake. However, the conventional linear inversion of geodetic data for a finite‐fault model cannot fully resolve the fault geometry. In this study, we developed a Bayesian inversion framework that can comprehensively solve a non‐planar fault geometry, the corresponding fault slip distribution with spatially variable directions, and objective weighting for multiple data types. In the proposed framework, the probability distributions of all the model parameters are sampled using the Monte Carlo method. The developed methodology removes the requirement for manual intervention for the fault geometry and data weighting and can provide an ensemble of plausible model parameters. The performance of the developed method is tested and demonstrated through inversions for synthetic oblique‐slip faulting models. The results show that the constant rake assumption can significantly bias the estimates of fault geometry and data weighting, whereas additional consideration of the variability of slip orientations can allow plausible estimates of a non‐planar fault geometry with objective data weighting. We applied the method to the 2013 Mw 6.5 Lushan earthquake in Sichuan province, China. The result reveals dominant thrust slips with left‐lateral components and a curved fault geometry, with the confidence interval of the dip angles being between 20°–25° and 56°–58°. The proposed method provides useful insights into the scope of imaging a non‐planar fault geometry, and could help to interpret more complex earthquake sources in the future. Plain Language Summary: An earthquake originates from a rapid relative movement between two blocks on both sides of a fault. The earthquake can produce ground deformation, which can be measured by geodetic instruments deployed on the ground. Geophysicists can thus utilize the geodetic measurements to invert the earthquake attributes, including the fault geometry and the associated slips (i.e., the zone and amount of the relative movement between two blocks). Simultaneous estimation of the fault geometry parameters and the slip parameters is a nonlinear problem. The conventional inversion of geodetic data uses a linear adjustment method that cannot fully resolve the fault geometry. In addition, geodetic measurements have different precisions in terms of the types of instruments. We developed a nonlinear inversion based Bayesian inference framework to solve both these problems. The proposed method can correctly interpret an earthquake source with a non‐planar fault geometry. We applied the method to the 2013 Mw 6.5 Lushan earthquake in southwest China and determined a statistical estimate of the fault geometry and slips. The results indicate that the proposed method could help to improve our knowledge of complicated earthquake sources in the future. The nocturnal precipitation over the Sichuan Basin (SCB) exhibits obvious spatial variation, most of the existing numerical research of precipitation event over the SCB is based on case studies. In this study, the long‐term climatological evaluation of the prediction of diurnal spatio‐temporal evolution of precipitation and relevant physical mechanism over the SCB by 9 and 3 km operational numerical weather prediction model is carried out. It is found that the SWC‐WARMS model with 9 km grid spacing overestimates the summer precipitation, especially over the western slopes of the SCB. The northeastward timing delay of the precipitation peak over the SCB is well reproduced in the model, with predicted precipitation peaking at midnight over the southwestern SCB and in the early morning over the northeastern SCB. However, the predicted diurnal peak of precipitation appears 2–3 hr earlier than the observed peak. Increasing horizontal resolution to 3 km reduces the wet bias and improves the diurnal phase of precipitation. Compared to reanalysis, the predicted easterly anomalous wind appears earlier and the anomalous wind speed is stronger. Moreover, the predicted atmosphere is too unstable, which is associated with "warm below and cold above" vertical biases in temperature and wet biases in specific humidity. Thus, model precipitation peaks too early in the day over the SCB, and is overestimated. The weakening of the predicted southwesterly flow in the middle troposphere weakens the northeastward propagation of precipitation after midnight over the SCB. The most significant improvements are found for the diurnal variation of low‐level anomalous wind speed in the 3 km resolution model, contributing to a more realistic representation of precipitation over the SCB. Plain Language Summary: Although it is known that the nocturnal precipitation is dominated over the Sichuan Basin (SCB), the diurnal spatial variation of precipitation and the associated atmospheric circulation based on hourly long‐term climatological prediction are not well understood. Our results show that the SWC‐WARMS model can reasonably reproduce the precipitation on both daily and hourly time scales in summer, although the model overestimates the precipitation and peaks earlier than observation over the SCB. In general, the model with higher resolution produces a more realistic representation of precipitation than the coarse resolution. Further analysis suggests that the overestimation of precipitation over the SCB is attributed to the stronger low‐level easterly anomalous wind, much more moisture supply, and intensified atmospheric instability in the model than in ERA5. In addition, the predicted earlier easterly anomalous wind contributes to the earlier peak of precipitation in the day over the SCB. Findings of these basic model biases may be helpful to further understanding of the main cause of nocturnal peak of precipitation over the SCB, and provide a promising way forward for improvement of the model physical processes. Objective: To investigate the clinical outcomes and toxicity in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer treated with supplementary applicator guided-intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) based on conventional intracavitary brachytherapy (IC/IMRT). Design: A retrospective cohort study. Setting: Sichuan Cancer Hospital & Institute, Sichuan Cancer Centre, China. Population: Large high-risk clinical target volume (HR-CTV) volume (>40 ml) at the time of brachytherapy cervical cancer patients were recruited. Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of 76 patients with locally advanced cervical cancer (FIGO IIB-IVA) treated with concurrent chemoradiotherapy followed by IC/IMRT between June 2010 and October 2016. External radiotherapy (45 Gy in 25 fractions) was adminstered with cisplatin chemotherapy treatment before IC/IMRT. The IMRT plan was optimised using the ICBT plan base dose plan by an inverse dose optimisation tool which allows the use of DVH constraints on the total dose of ICBT. A seven-field gantry angle IMRT plan was devised to avoid hotspots when optimising the boost plan. The prescription dose for HR-CTV and IR-CTV were 6 and 5 Gy per fraction for five fractions, respectively. Results: Mean HR-CTV was 65.8 ± 23.6 ml at the time of brachytherapy. D90 for HR-CTV and IR-CTV were 88.7 ± 3.6 Gy and 78.1 ± 2.5 Gy. D2cc for bladder, rectum, sigmoid and small intestine were 71.8 ± 3.8, 64.6 ± 4.9, 63.9 ± 5.3 and 56.7 ± 8.7 Gy, respectively. Median follow-up was 85 months (47.9–124.2 months). Five-year local recurrence-free survival rate, metastasis recurrence-free survival rate, disease-free survival rate and cancer-special survival rate were 87.6, 82.4, 70.9 and 76.3%, respectively. The grade 1 + 2 gastrointestinal and urinary late toxicities were 15.8 and 21.1%, and grade 3 late toxicities were 3.9 and 5.2%, respectively. Neither acute nor late grade 4 gastrointestinal or urinary toxicities were seen. Conclusions: The combination of ICBT with an applicator-guided supplementary IMRT boost achieved excellent local control and overall survival with low toxicity for bulky residual cervical tumour. Tibetan Plateau vortices (TPVs) are important rainfall producers generated over the Tibetan Plateau (TP), which can move off the TP under certain conditions. The TPVs greatly affect both local and downstream rainfall, but the characteristics of TPV precipitation are not yet fully understood. Accordingly, the climatic characteristics of TPV precipitation during May–August of 1998–2018 are explored in this work from multiple aspects, based on observational TPV and precipitation data sets. Generally, maximums of precipitation amount are observed over the eastern TP and in Sichuan Basin, and the TPVs contribute more than 40% of the precipitation in certain areas within the TP. For the TPVs located over the TP, the precipitation is distributed zonally with a relatively small intensity; for the TPVs beyond the TP, the associated precipitation is distributed in the southwest–northeast direction with a larger intensity. TPVs tend to be responsible for intense rainfall, that is, heavy and torrential rainfalls, and are suggested to be the major intense rainfall producers at certain stations over and downstream from the TP. Meanwhile, TPV precipitation exhibit distinctive features in separate month, for example, TPV precipitation account for the largest percentage of the total precipitation in June and the smallest in August; more than half, even 75% of the torrential rain days downstream from the TP in Sichuan Basin and the regions around 35°N in central and eastern China in May, and in the regions over the TP and its eastern flank in June, July and August are attributed to TPVs. Debris flows commonly cause tremendous damage to buildings in mountainous areas. The identification of buildings susceptible to debris flows is vital for settlement risk management. The efficient identification method is a major issue limiting the targeted regional policy setting. By combining geographic information system (GIS) and Deep Encoding Network (DE‐Net) methods, we proposed an automatic identification method for buildings highly susceptible to debris flows with large‐scale digital elevation data and high‐resolution remote sensing imagery. The judgment criteria were based on a vulnerability matrix containing different threshold values of the horizontal distance (HD) and vertical distance (VD) between buildings and channels obtained from the statistics of 362 buildings destroyed by 23 debris flows and the maximum debris flow depths of 26 events, respectively. Five steps, which are debris flow channel extraction, building extraction, building cluster segmentation, distance calculation, and building classification, were implemented in the method. A case study in Puge County, Sichuan Province, demonstrated the high identification potential of the method for buildings susceptible to debris flows in large areas with only scarce information available. The identification results provide valuable information regarding high‐risk residential areas to governments and facilitate targeted measure design in these areas in the initial planning stage. The rural centralized residence (RCR), a policy that guides rural households to reside in centralized residential communities or central villages, has been widely implemented in China and other developing countries to promote rural development. RCR can effectively improve local public facilities and stimulate more local business opportunities, thus affecting the migration decisions of rural household members. Using a large household‐level survey data set from Sichuan province, China, we estimated the causal effects of RCR on rural labor migration via the instrumental variable approach while controlling for the within‐town contiguous‐villages group fixed effects. We found that on average the proportion of household members that are migrant workers decreases by 17.2 percentage points if households choose to embrace RCR. Additional analyses on the mechanisms indicate that RCR increases local employment opportunities, decreases search and transportation expenses for local jobs, and leads to increased satisfaction with local supporting facilities. Paleoclimate reconstruction of continental environments has been hampered by the limited evidence. A thick sequence of Jurassic continental deposits in the Sichuan Basin, Southwest China yields abundant paleosols that may offer valuable insights regarding Jurassic climate scenarios. A succession of 169 paleosols belonging to Protosols, Calcisols, and Argillisols from 23 detailed stratigraphic sections was recognized and characterized macro‐ and micromorphologically and assessed for mineral and geochemical compositions. Quantitative paleoclimate reconstructions using bulk geochemical proxies, the depth to and the stable oxygen isotopic composition of paleosol carbonates indicated a predominant alternation of semiarid and arid cool/warm‐temperate climatic conditions punctuated by several episodes of subhumid and humid climates that generally prevailed in the Sichuan Basin during the Jurassic. The estimated paleoatmospheric CO2 concentrations (pCO2) from calcic paleosols yielded a low range of ∼104 ± 58 to ∼610 ± 152 ppmv during the Middle Jurassic. The terrestrial paleotemperature changes in the Sichuan Basin coincided with the pCO2 variations, which probably resulted from global geological events (e.g., volcanic activities, magmatic and oceanic events, and the ephemeral caps development) in the Middle Jurassic. Jurassic climatic fluctuations in the basin were likely attributed to true polar wander due to global plate motion, megamonsoon effect linked to global and regional paleogeography, and regional paleotopography. Aim: The mechanisms by which global biodiversity hotspots harbour and conserve high genetic and morphological diversity of endemic species remain unexplored. Relic species of ochotonids in the genus Ochotona are confined to alpine habitats and highly sensitive to environmental changes. We studied the genomic and ecological mechanisms underlying the divergence and adaptive evolution of the Moupin pika (O. thibetana) and its closely related species to infer its diversification, adaptive evolution and demographic history in response to historical and recent environmental changes. Location: Hengduan Mountain Region, China. Methods: We integrated morphological, genomic and ecological data to interpret the phylogeographic structure, adaptive evolution, demographic history and range shift of O. thibetana. Phylogenetic reconstruction was based on Cytochrome b (CYTB), the mitochondrial genome and single‐copy orthologues of the whole genome. Gene flow among extant lineages, as well as from extinct species, was inferred by multiple algorithms. Demographic history was inferred using the pairwise sequential Markovian coalescent and high‐resolution analysis of linkage disequilibrium. We also predicted the range shift of this species by using ecological niche modelling. Results: Phylogenetic reconstruction revealed an unusual mitochondrial lineage of O. thibetana from the western Sichuan Basin, which was named O. qionglaiensis in previous studies. Extensive gene flow was detected among genetic lineages of O. thibetana, which has distinct phenotypic variation in hair thickness and colouration, as well as notable morphological differentiation in external and craniodental measurements. Multiple members of the keratin gene family were identified as introgressed loci from some ancient species to O. thibetana. The Moupin pika underwent dramatic population shrinkage in the late Quaternary, with a clear trend of population growth in approximately the last 70 generations. The potential distribution range of O. thibetana showed a clear trend of expansion in the future. Main conclusions: The unusual mitochondrial phylogenetic pattern of O. thibetana resulted from "extended ghost introgression," a new evolutionary model proposed in the present study, and thus rejected the validity of O. qionglaiensis as an independent species. Ancient introgression of keratin genes likely underlies the prominent coat phenotypic variation among genetic lineages. Clear population growth and range expansion of the Moupin pika in recent generations probably benefitted from recent global warming and vegetation recovery, which not only contributed to the conservation of large mammals but was also beneficial to small mammals endemic to alpine habitats. The Upper Triassic Xiaotangzi and Xujiahe formations are important gas exploration targets in the Sichuan Basin. This article, based on a systematic analysis of sandstone clastic framework components, depositional structures, clay minerals, trace elements and organic geochemistry, gives a detailed discussion regarding their sedimentary environment. There exist abundant tide‐generated depositional structures in this sequence, and the sedimentary provenance was dominated by a recycled orogen belt in the north and by a continental block at an early stage then recycled orogen belt at the late stage in the south of the western Sichuan Basin. The Xiaotangzi Formation and members 2–3 of the Xujiahe Formation only have authigenic illite and chlorite. In contrast, members 4–6 contain increasing kaolinite and decreasing illite and chlorite from bottom to top. The water column salinity gradually downgraded from hyperhaline, euhaline and polyhaline of the Xiaotangzi Formation to member 2 to polyhaline and mesohaline of members 3–6. The source rocks of the Xiaotangzi and Xujiahe formations have a generally low Pr/Ph, minus the value of (Pr/nC17)‐(Ph/nC18), and high values of Pr/nC17 and Ph/nC18. They also show apparent dominance of 9‐MP in methylphenanthrene composition and different point groups of fluorenes, dibenzofurans and dibenzothiophenes from marine or salt lake facies, as well as typical swamp facies. In conclusion, the Xiaotangzi Formation and members 2–3 were deposited in a marine environment, whereas members 4–6 were deposited mainly in a transitional to the continental environment. Comprehensive, spatially explicit understanding of N loss from N input in China's maize (Zea mays L.) belt is needed to improve N management and develop N loss mitigation measures for specific locations. However, accurate estimation of N loss remains uncertain mainly because of spatial heterogeneity of emission factors (EFs) and activity data. Here, we built random‐forest models to predict EFs for each N loss pathway (dinitrogen, nitric oxide, nitrous oxide and ammonia emissions, nitrate leaching, and N runoff) considering soil and climate factors. We then used location‐ and crop‐specific activity data to understand N loss and surplus on a 1‐ × 1‐km grid. Results showed that the N surplus and total N loss averaged 135.4 (95% confidence interval [CI], 36.6–261.5) and 87.6 (95% CI, 32.9–162.5) kg N ha–1, respectively, and nitrate leaching and ammonia emissions were primary loss pathways. There was a significant correlation between N surplus and total N loss in spatial distribution, and regions with high N surplus and total N loss were mainly in the northern China Plain and Sichuan Basin, while regions with low surplus and loss could be found in Heilongjiang and Jilin provinces. Our results are beneficial to understand specific crop N budget and develop location‐specific N management strategies. Climate change affects the species spatio‐temporal distribution deeply. However, how climate affects the spatio‐temporal distribution pattern of related species on the large scale remains largely unclear. Here, we selected two closely related species in Taxus genus Taxus chinensis and Taxus mairei to explore their distribution pattern. Four environmental variables were employed to simulate the distribution patterns using the optimized Maxent model. The results showed that the highly suitable area of T. chinensis and T. mairei in current period was 1.616 × 105 km2 and 3.093 × 105 km2, respectively. The distribution area of T. chinensis was smaller than that of T. mairei in different periods. Comparison of different periods shown that the distribution area of the two species was almost in stasis from LIG to the future periods. Temperature and precipitation were the main climate factors that determined the potential distribution of the two species. The centroids of T. chinensis and T. mairei were in Sichuan and Hunan provinces in current period, respectively. In the future, the centroid migration direction of the two species would shift towards northeast. Our results revealed that the average elevation distribution of T. chinensis was higher than that of T. mairei. This study sheds new insights into the habitat preference and limiting environment factors of the two related species and provides a valuable reference for the conservation of these two threatened species. Based on the complex network method, this study reveals the temporal and spatial characteristics of the synchronization of extreme rainfall events in southwest China (SWC) during the main rainfall season (May–September). Our results show the significant synchronization pattern of extreme rainfall events in SWC, which is closely associated with the convergence of warm‐wet air and cold‐dry air and the corresponding occurrence of extreme rainfall in SWC. The network divergence indicates a dominated direction of the net influence of extreme rainfall from the Sichuan Basin to the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau, implying the extreme rainfall synchronization moving from north to south in SWC is more frequent than the opposite direction. The development of the low vortex and the north wind system usually shows a movement from north to south, resulting in the evolution of extreme rainfall events more tend to present a southward movement. The low‐reinforced latitude cyclonic circulation leads to the strengthened transportation of water vapour from the tropical area to the north and converges with the anticyclonic circulation in the mid‐latitudes to form the movement of heavy rainfall events from the Yunnan–Guizhou Plateau to the Sichuan Basin. Therefore, the synchronization direction of extreme rainfall events in SWC has obvious asymmetry spatial feature due to the more frequent and stronger circulation system moving from north to south than the opposite. To support the implementation of China's carbon neutrality target, this study assesses the impact of future climate change on hydroelectricity production (HP) in China. We developed a hydropower database for mainland China, which covers 92% of the installed capacity indicated by national statistics (352 GW in 2018). An HP model was applied to simulate monthly HP by 3,521 conventional plants at different levels of global warming (1°, 1.5°, 2°, and 3°C above preindustrial) using an ensemble of monthly streamflow time series computed by five global hydrological models (GHMs), where each global hydrological model was driven by four global climate models (GCMs). With a probability of 80%, limiting global warming to 1.5°C will constrain changes of national HP to the range of −1.4%–2.5% as compared to near‐present climate (1°C). In case of a 3°C world, this range more than doubles. HP is projected to likely increase in the two provinces Sichuan and Yunnan that encompass more than half of China's installed capacity. However, with a probability of about 10%, HP may decrease in a 3°C world by more than 15% in five provinces, and 40% of the installed capacity may suffer from an HP decrease of more than 5%. The uncertainty of projected HP changes is mainly due to the GCMs. We found that relative changes in annual HP and streamflow often differ in magnitude and direction as HP depends on seasonal streamflow patterns and installed capacities that determine the maximum flow through the turbines. This study investigates the autumn precipitation in Sichuan Basin (SB), China in combination with reanalysis data sets of aerosol and meteorological fields from 2008 to 2018. To identify the aerosol impacts on precipitation, we carefully selected and divided the data into multiple groups according to vorticity, precipitation amount category, aerosol pollution level, and the geopotential height (GH) in the upper troposphere. Our data show that the precipitation in SB are generally reduced and weakened in afternoon to evening, but enhanced and intensified after midnight under the aerosol polluted condition. By analyzing data contrasts between different groups, we find that aerosol pollution in SB reduces shortwave heating near surface, which enhances the tropospheric stability and inhibits the vertical motion and rainfall in the afternoon to early evening. As the stability reduces within the basin, the vertical motions are invigorated to enhance and intensify the rain after midnight. Therefore, we conclude that the aerosol pollution in SB and the rapid adjustment of aerosol‐radiation interaction amplify the diurnal features of precipitation in autumn. As the country implements the reform of the electricity market and a large number of renewable energy resources (RES) are connected to the grid, the model and algorithm of traditional transmission network expansion planning (TNEP) are not suitable. A model of TNEP is built, in which the investment cost of new lines and the market‐based annual congestion surplus are selected as objective functions. A probabilistic DC power flow method is used to describe uncertainties of RES generation. A new algorithm, Hybrid‐Adaptive Differential Evolution with Decay Function (HyDE‐DF), is applied to solve the model of TNEP for the first time. Analysis and comparison in the IEEE 18‐bus system and the 52‐bus system in an area of Sichuan Province prove the feasibility, effectivity, and practicability of the model and solving algorithm. Some comparisons are performed using other variants of Differential Evolution (DE) and a swarm intelligence optimization algorithm to demonstrate the performance superiority of the new algorithm and new application. It is worth mentioning that in the 52‐bus system of an area of Sichuan Province, the investment cost obtained by the new algorithm is at least one or two orders of magnitude lower than other algorithms. Background: In recent years, metabolic products of pesticides have gained much attention due to their substantial characteristics as organic pollutants. So far, the behavior and metabolite levels of pesticide metabolites in crops have not been characterized well. In the present study, four registered pesticides (imidacloprid, diafenthiuron, malathion and chlorothalonil) were applied on tea plants in Fujian and Sichuan to characterize their metabolites residue pattern and dietary risk. Results: Four pesticides dissipated first‐order kinetics in the fresh tea leaves with the half‐lives of 1.4–3.8 days. Nine metabolites were detected in the fresh tea leaves and green tea after processing. The metabolites residues showed an increasing trend first and then declined after treatment, and reached the maximum near the half‐lives of pesticide. Compared with the parent pesticide, the total residue and acute risk (included the metabolites) increased by 1.7–105.2 times. Some metabolites, especially those whose parent pesticides have high water solubility and low Log Kow, will be more easily transferred to tea infusion. Conclusion: Pesticides were metabolized rapidly on tea plants after application, but the production of metabolites increased the health risk of tea consumption. Luku alkali syenite is distributed throughout the southern end of the Hongge basic‐ultrabasic intrusion in Panzhihua, Sichuan, SW China. Using LA‐ICP‐MS, the alkali syenite intrusion yielded a zircon U‐Pb age of 264.5 ± 1.6 Ma, concordant with the ages of the E'meishan large igneous province (260 Ma). The intrusion displayed silica‐saturated, Al‐adequate and alkali‐rich signatures, with SiO2 62.07%–64.04%, Al2O3 16.26%–16.79% and Na2O + K2O 9.17%–9.91% (averaging 9.31%). The rock falls into the alkaline zone on the SiO2‐A.R. diagram, as well as in the potassium zone on the K2O‐Na2O diagram, indicating a potassium alkaline rock. The rock has a low total REE concentration and showed enrichment in LREE (LREE/HREE = 7.06–7.95), typical negative Eu anomalies (δEu = 0.73–0.80), trace element deficiencies in LILEs (Ba, K, Sr, Zr) and enrichment in HFSEs (Th, U, Nd, Sm, Ta and Nb), displaying crust and mantle element information. Zircons show a strong positive Ce anomaly and negative Eu anomaly, similar to the characteristics of crustal source magmatic zircon, however the (Lu/Gd)N ratio ranges from 1.48 to 3.17, and the (Yb/Sm)N ratio ranges from 38.49 to 77.15, which are similar to the characteristics of mantle‐derived magmatic zircon. In the La/Yb‐δEu correlation diagram, the data plots near the boundary between crust type and crust‐mantle type. From the combined 'trinity' spatiotemporal relationship of Indosinian intermediate‐acid alkali intrusive rocks in the Panxi area with E'meishan basalt and basic‐ultrabasic intrusive rocks, the regional tectonic evolution and the partial melting model of the most intraplate magma sources, we believe that the Luku alkali syenite in Sichuan was formed from the partial melting of a crust‐mantle source material, due to underplating of the mantle plume basic magma. Ceratodus is a form genus of ceratodontid lungfishes. Until now, only 14 specimens have been reported from the Mesozoic of China. Detailed measurements and characteristic comparisons based on 15 well‐preserved lungfish tooth plates of Ceratodus type, uncovered from the upper member of the Upper Jurassic Shaximiao Formation at Luojiashan, Qianfeng District, Guang'an, Sichuan Province in 2019, allow us to establish a new species, Ceratodus guanganensis sp. nov., on the basis of its small swollen irregular triangular tooth plate with four low and swollen radial crests on the occlusal surface without denticles. Other specimens from the same locality can be referred to C. szechuanensis and C. youngi. This is the first discovery of Ceratodus in the Guang'an region and represents the fifth Ceratodus fossil site in the Sichuan Basin. The discovery indicates that the climate was hot and arid in the Sichuan Basin during the Late Jurassic, and reveals a tectonic paleogeographic relationship between the Yangtze block in southwestern China and the Kola Basin in northern Thailand. The precise location, morphology, and physical properties of the slab in the lower mantle provide critical information for deciphering the subduction history. Here, we study the waveform complexity of the data recorded by the dense China National Seismograph Network and delineate a lower mantle slab structure below the East Asia margin. For the events that occurred in the Solomon Island area, we observe fast and strongly multipathed S waveforms at the stations near the Sichuan Basin. Furthermore, the observed multipathing patterns vary among different events, which provide robust constraints for the depth of this lower mantle slab. Through detailed waveform modeling, we confirm that a southeastern‐dipping low‐mantle slab exists at a depth of 1,000 km below the East Asia margin with a shear wave velocity perturbation of 2.5%, a length of 1,000 km, and a thickness of 200 km. The spatial correlation between the imaged lower mantle slab and the plate reconstruction model suggests that this slab may be a fragment of the Izanagi Plate from the late Cretaceous subducted beneath the proto South China Sea. However, this southeastern‐dipping structure may invoke the hypothesis of intraoceanic subduction within the Izanagi Plate since the late Cretaceous, which might exist further south of the western Pacific. However, the slab imaged in most tomographic models has a blurry feature, which may not reflect the real structure. The waveform information can be used to refine the tomographic images. In particular, while seismic waves sample a sharp edge of an anomaly, such as a slab, they generate multipathing with distorted waveforms. By using the dense China National Seismograph Network, we examine the multipathing effects and locate a lower mantle slab below East Asia. By modeling the waveforms, we show that a lower mantle slab has a depth of 1,000 km with a thickness of 200 km, a length of 1,000 km, and a shear wave velocity perturbation of 2.5%. One intriguing feature of this slab is its southeast dip, which is opposite to the typical ancient subduction direction along the western Pacific. To reconcile such contrary observations, we suggest two possible origins of the observed lower mantle slab: the Izanagi plate from the late Cretaceous subducted beneath the Eurasian Plate with a period of stagnation at the mantle transition zone or the intraoceanic subduction within the Izanagi Plate since the late Cretaceous.
