To assess the potential of a paper diary for strengthening accountability in public agricultural extension services. Therefore a paper diary called 'Diary for Agricultural Extension Officers' was developed and tested in Uganda. A qualitative case study research approach was applied for the development and assessment of the diary. Data were collected using focus group discussions and individual face-to-face interviews. Data analysis was conducted using the content analysis method. Paper diaries can strengthen accountability in public agricultural extension services by enabling alignment of the extension activities of the field agents to the goals of the extension service and to the needs of the beneficiaries, in addition to mitigating information asymmetry about the extension activities. However, the implementation of paper diaries requires sensitization of the beneficiaries on the need for verification and feedback. This study is centred around addressing a practical problem of field agents' accountability and results have the potential to improve management of public services such as agricultural extension. Moreover, the findings could also be relevant for all types of organizations and service delivery methods. This study expanded the boundaries of the principal-agent theory by applying it to the accountability of agricultural extension services using paper diaries, which have hitherto not been widely applied. This study advances the debates of accountability and coordination of agricultural extension services by assessing the potential of a paper diary as the literature has to date assessed the potential of electronic diaries. Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a debilitating psychiatric disorder that affects a significant number of individuals worldwide. Major depressive disorder (MDD) is among the most common comorbidities reported in people with OCD. The emergence of MDD in individuals with OCD can be attributed to the increased severity of OCD symptoms and their profound impact on daily functioning. Depressive symptoms can also modify the course of OCD. In this review, the authors explore potential shared neurobiological mechanisms that may underlie both OCD and MDD, such as disturbed sleep patterns, immunological dysregulations, and neuroendocrine changes. Furthermore, they address the challenges clinicians face when managing comorbid OCD and MDD. The authors also discuss a range of treatment options for OCD associated with MDD, including augmentation strategies for serotonin reuptake inhibitors (e.g. aripiprazole), psychotherapy (especially CBT/EPR), transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and deep brain stimulation (DBS). Although there is no 'rule of thumb' or universally acceptable strategy in the treatment of OCD comorbid with MDD, many clinicians, including the authors, tend to adopt a unique transdiagnostic approach to the treatment of OCD and related disorders, focusing on strategies known to be effective across diagnoses. Up to 39% of women who experience perinatal bereavement proceed to develop Post-Traumatic-Stress-Disorder (PTSD), with this large proportion meriting treatment. Before setting-up a treatment service for postnatal women who are experiencing psychological trauma, it is important to identify what therapies have been used in-the-past to address this problem. To scope for research that has implemented therapies to treat psychological trauma post perinatal bereavement, for potential inclusion in a flexible treatment package. A scoping review mapped coverage, range, and type of research that has reported on prior therapies used to treat psychological trauma post perinatal bereavement. Due to the dearth of papers that directly addressed perinatal bereavement, we widened the scope of the review to view what treatments had been used to treat psychological trauma post-childbirth. Out of 23 studies that report on effectiveness of therapies used to treat psychological trauma post-childbirth, only 4-focused upon treating PTSD post perinatal bereavement (3 effective/1 ineffective). Successful treatments were reported by Kersting et al. (2013), who found CBT effective at reducing PTSD symptoms post-miscarriage, termination for medical reasons, and stillbirth (n = 33 & n = 115), and Navidian et al. (2s017)) found that 4-sessions of grief-counselling reduced trauma symptoms post-stillbirth in (n = 50) women. One study by Huberty et al. (2020found on-line yoga to be ineffective at reducing PTSD symptoms post-stillbirth. A dearth of research has explored effectiveness of therapies for treating psychological trauma post perinatal bereavement and post-childbirth, with need to develop and test a research informed flexible counselling package. Hypnotherapy has been gaining recognition as an alternative treatment for excess weight problems. This qualitative study aims to explore individuals' experiences of losing weight through hypnotherapy and their perceived barriers and facilitators for healthy lifestyle changes. Semistructured interviews were conducted with 15 participants (11 women and 4 men; mean age of 23 years) who recorded having lost ≥5% weight after undergoing 3 hypnotherapy sessions previously at a public university in Terengganu, Malaysia. Each interview was audiotaped, transcribed, and analyzed using thematic analysis. The themes that emerged were the usefulness of hypnotherapy, barriers, and facilitators of healthy lifestyle changes. All participants contended that hypnotherapy played a role in their weight-loss journey through increased mindful eating and enhanced motivation to make lifestyle modifications. Barriers to healthy lifestyle changes included high costs of healthy foods and lack of support for healthy food sources in social and family settings. Hypnotherapy is essential as an adjunct tool in assisting weight loss. However, additional efforts are needed to improve support in the weight management journey. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Evidence supporting the direct therapeutic benefits of neuropsychological assessment (NPA) feedback relies mostly upon post-feedback consumer surveys. This randomized-controlled trial with cross-over investigated the benefits of NPA feedback in multiple sclerosis (MS). Seventy-one participants were randomly allocated to NPA with feedback or a "delayed-treatment" control group. The primary hypotheses were that NPA feedback would lead to improved knowledge of cognitive functioning and improved coping. Outcome instruments were administered by a research assistant blinded to group allocation. At 1-week post-NPA feedback there were no significant group-by-time interaction effects, indicating no improvement. But nor was there any significant deterioration in psychological wellbeing, despite most participants receiving "bad news" confirming cognitive impairment. At 1-month follow-up, within-subjects' analyses not only found no evidence of any delayed deterioration, but showed clinically significant improvement (small-medium effects) in perceived everyday cognitive functioning, MS self-efficacy, stress and depression. Despite lack of improvement in the RCT component at 1-week post-NPA feedback, the absence of deterioration at this time, in addition to significant improvements in perceived cognitive functioning, self-efficacy and mood at follow-up, together with high satisfaction ratings, all support NPA feedback as a safe psycho-educational intervention that is followed by improved psychological wellbeing over time. In 2021, the Arts and Humanities Research Council commissioned a mass-media mental health campaign called "What's up With Everyone?" Here, innovative co-created messages were professionally storied and animated by an internationally recognized production company and focused on improving mental health literacy in five core areas: competition, social media, perfectionism, loneliness and isolation, and independence. This study examines the impact of the "What's up With Everyone?" campaign on young people's mental health awareness. Seventy-one (19 males, 51 females, M age = 19.20 years, SD = 1.66, range = 17–22) young people completed a one-sample, pre-post experiment to measure changes in knowledge, attitudes, confidence, and stigma of mental health struggles, as well as help-seeking for mental ill-health before and following exposure to animations. Paired and one-sample t-tests revealed that knowledge, attitudes, confidence, and willingness to seek support improved at post-test. There were also significant reductions in the stigma towards depression following the animations. Continued long-term investment in campaigns such as "What's up With Everyone?" seems warranted given the impact on mental health awareness, help-seeking, and stigma. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic condition linked to a wide range of psychological difficulties. While traditional cognitive behavioural therapy has been studied extensively with people with MS, much less is known about more recent "third wave" approaches. A scoping review was carried out by performing a systematic search across MEDLINE Complete, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Academic Search Ultimate, and Cochrane Library up to January 2022. From an initial return of 8306 citations, 35 studies were included, 20 of which were randomised controlled trials (RCTs). These showed that four third wave approaches have been investigated with people with MS to date: acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT). MBSR and MBCT may be helpful to address a range of psychological difficulties up to three months post-intervention. However, MS-specific adaptations may be required, and more evidence is needed on longer-term effectiveness. Limited evidence is also available for DBT and ACT, but additional research is warranted before any recommendation can be made. As third wave approaches keep being refined, further more rigorous investigations are needed to implement them to the benefit of people with MS. Multiple sclerosis is linked to a wide range of psychological difficulties in adults. Little is currently known on third wave psychotherapies for people with MS. Mindfulness-based stress reduction and mindfulness-based cognitive therapy may be helpful to address a wide range of difficulties in MS. Quantifying a significant cognitive change on a neuropsychological battery is essential to assess patients' decline or recovery and offer appropriate care. The reliability of change indices is particularly important in multiple sclerosis (MS), as the course of cognitive impairment is quite unpredictable, due at least in part to substantial interindividual variability. The main objective of this study was to compare six different methods for assessing cognitive change in an MS sample: the SD method, two reliable change indices, two standardized regression-based methods (SRB), and the generalized regression-based method (GSRB). One hundred and twenty-three patients with clinically definite MS and 89 healthy controls underwent a battery of standardized neuropsychological tests assessing cognitive functions that are frequently affected in this disease (i.e., verbal episodic memory, working memory, processing speed and verbal fluency). We observed fairly similar proportions of improvement, decline or stability in the control group whatever the method. By contrast, in the MS sample, regression-based methods with one predictor (i.e., score at T1) and four predictors (i.e., score at T1 and demographic factors: age, sex, education level) detected a significant worsening more often than the reliable change indices while the GSRB method was more consistent with the RCI methods in tasks associated with ceiling effects. The interpretation of a patient's cognitive changes depends on which method is used. The (G)SRB methods appear to be relevant indicators for assessing cognitive change in MS. The addition of demographic factors does not seem to play an important role in the prediction of significant worsening in the MS sample, regardless of cognitive domain. This article explores the use of mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) as an alternative treatment for adults with Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Topics include First-line pharmacological treatment is feasible due to various barriers, of non-pharmacological treatments; and evaluate the ADHD Program in a community mental health center and involved participants who were receiving mental health treatment and had a diagnosis of ADHD.

Since the traditional mental health system showed significant limitations in the early identification, diagnosis and treatment of the current new youth psychopathological trajectories, by substantially failing in targeting the needs of the current young generation, there is the demand to redesign and digitally adapt youth mental health care and systems. Indeed, the level of digital literacy and the level of digital competency and knowledge in the field of digital psychiatry is still under-investigated among mental health professionals, particularly in youth mental health. Therefore, we aimed at: (a) carrying out a post-hoc analysis of an international multi-centre study, to investigate the opinions of mental health professionals regarding the feasibility, efficacy and clinical experience in delivering digital mental health interventions (DMHIs) in youths; (b) providing a comprehensive overview on the integrated digitally-based youth mental health care models and innovations. Mental health professionals declared the lack of a formal training in digital psychiatry, particularly in youth mental health. Subjects who received a formal theoretical/practical training on DMHIs displayed a statistical trend towards a positive feasibility of digital psychiatry in youth mental health (p = 0.053) and a perceived increased efficacy of digital psychiatry in youths (p = 0.051). Respondents with higher Digital Psychiatry Opinion (DPO) scores reported a positive perceived feasibility of DMHIs in youths (p < 0.041) and are more prone to deliver DMHIs to young people (p < 0.001). Respondents with higher knowledge scores (KS) declared that DMHIs are more effective in youth mental health (p < 0.001). Overall, the digitalisation indeed allowed young people to keep in touch with a mental health professional, facilitating a more dynamic and fluid mental health care access and monitoring, generally preferred and considered more feasible by post-Millennial youngsters. Accordingly, our findings demonstrated that mental health professionals are more prone to offer DMHIs in youth mental health, particularly whether previously trained and knowledgeable on the topic. Telepsychology and mHealth (TPmH) services for youth and their families have become increasingly prevalent in recent years. However, significant limitations in theory, research, and policy introduce questions about the effectiveness of such interventions, particularly for racial-ethnic minoritized youth and their families, who already contend with inequities in mental health treatment access and outcomes. Although TPmH have the potential to reduce barriers to mental health services in ways that may benefit racial-ethnic minoritized youth and their families, the mental health field must first grapple with limitations in culturally responsive TPmH work to avoid perpetuating existing mental health inequities. As such, this article begins by briefly reviewing extant literature on (1) TPmH for youth, (2) culturally adapted or culturally responsive evidence-based interventions for racial-ethnic minoritized youth and families, and (3) the intersection of TPmH and culturally responsive interventions. Informed by the gaps identified by this review, we provide recommendations for future directions in culturally responsive TPmH for racial-ethnic minoritized youth and families. These recommendations have been organized into four overarching categories: (1) conceptual and theoretical recommendations, (2) research priorities, (3) practice and policy recommendations, and (4) engagement and access recommendations. These recommendations offer novel ideas for researchers, clinicians, funding agencies, policy-makers, and other key stakeholders and are intended to facilitate equity in TPmH for racial-ethnic minoritized youth and their families. This systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examined effects of mindfulness- and acceptance-based interventions (MABIs) on quality of life (QoL), coping, cognition, and mindfulness among people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Four electronic databases were searched to 3 July 2020. Data was combined in a random-effects meta-analysis model. Eighteen RCTs met the eligibility criteria. Meta-analyses at the immediate posttest found: moderate effects of MABIs on QoL, coping, and attention; and a large effect on memory. A large effect of MABIs on QoL was found at follow-up. There was no significant effect of MABIs on mindfulness. Relatively fewer studies in outcomes other than QoL were found, and the overall risk of bias across the included 18 RCTs was unclear. Future high-quality studies with follow-up evaluations are needed to support effects of MABIs on QoL, coping, cognition, and mindfulness in people with MS and examine intervention features that increase and maintain effects. The COVID-19 pandemic has changed how end-of-life ceremonies are performed, affecting grief processing and bereavement experiences. In this study, caregivers of patients who died with COVID-19 during the first wave of the pandemic were asked to complete an online survey designed to detect psychosocial factors associated with the presence of complicated grief (CG). The results show CG present in 48.4% of caregivers. The marital and cohabitant status during lockdown, the perceived sense of guilt and depression levels were significantly associated with the presence of CG, whereas attendance at the funeral and social support were found to be significant protective factors. Medical conditions could partly underlie sexual dysfunction among post-menopausal women. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between medical conditions and sexual function in post-menopausal women. This is a cross-sectional study of 405 post-menopausal women. A multistage random sampling was initially carried out. The data was collected through interviews using the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) questionnaire and a self-administered questionnaire, and was analyzed using the chi-square test, the t-test and multiple linear regression. The results showed that sexual dysfunction was more prevalent among the participants with medical conditions (p = 0.037). Scores of arousal (p = 0.000), orgasm (p = 0.018), and satisfaction (p = 0.026), along with the FSFI total scores (p = 0.005), were significantly lower in the participants suffering from cardiovascular disorders. Scores of desire (p = 0.001), arousal (p = 0.006), lubrication (p = 0.010), orgasm (p = 0.004), and satisfaction (p = 0.022), as well as the FSFI total scores (p = 0.017), were significantly lower among the participants with diabetes. Scores in the pain domain were significantly lower among those with musculoskeletal disorders (p = 0.041). We conclude that cardiovascular disorders, diabetes, and musculoskeletal disorders could have a negative impact on the sexual function of post-menopausal women.
