The recent deployment of new satellite-based hyperspectral imaging sensors, along with advances in classification methods, has enhanced the acquisition of information on the spatiotemporal patterns of Land Use/Land Cover (LULC).. With this context, the study presented in this paper seeks to assess the combined utilization of the Pixxel's technology demonstrator hyperspectral satellite mission with the Support Vector Machines (SVM) and Random Forest (RF) machine learning classifiers for LULC mapping in an agricultural area located in Queensland, Australia. Accuracy assessment of the resulting LULC maps has been done based on relevant classification accuracy metrics. It has been observed that SVMs outperformed RF in terms of both overall classification and urban vegetation cover mapping accuracy. An overall accuracy of 92.34% with kappa of 0.90 was reported for the SVMs' results, whereas for RF, the accuracy was 89.65% with 0.89 kappa, respectively. Both classifiers produced similar results for the classes of mango tree and sugarcane crops, whereas minor differences were observed in the depiction of water bodies and artificial surfaces. Our study findings provide insightful perspectives on the potential of Pixxel datasets for delineating the spatiotemporal distribution of LULC in agricultural landscapes, showcasing Pixxel's hyperspectral sensors' promising potential in this field. In Australia, surveillance data establish that there are higher rates of late HIV diagnoses among heterosexual migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa and new HIV diagnoses among gay and bisexual men (GBM) from Southeast and Northeast Asia and Latin America. Together, these groups are identified as priority migrant communities in current efforts to eliminate HIV transmissions. HIV health literacy is recognised as a key means of improving access to services and health outcomes. This qualitative paper explores critical HIV health literacy among priority migrant communities in Queensland, Australia. To foreground community voices, peer researchers from priority migrant communities participated in the project design, data collection and analysis, with 20 interviews completed. The findings demonstrate how participants' engagement with HIV health information and services is highly relational and situated within the framework of sexual health and wellbeing. Participants strategically selected where to seek information and who they trusted to help them appraise this information. They further demonstrated reflective capacities in identifying the contextual barriers that inhibit the development of their HIV health literacy. The findings highlight the need for HIV health promotion strategies that embrace a sex positive approach, promote cultural change, and involve collaboration with general practitioners (GPs). Intergenerational programs that bring the young and old together are known to facilitate social connections. However, benefits of intergenerational programs cannot be achieved by simply bringing the two generations together. We need to understand the factors which enhance intergenerational engagement. This paper specifically explores barriers and enablers for improving engagement of older people in an intergenerational program conducted within four research sites in South East Queensland and New South Wales, Australia. Video ethnography was used to examine the intergenerational environment and observe patterns of engagement between older people and children. Teachers play a critical role in the implementation of inclusive education in their schools. In this paper, we report on a study that investigated teacher perceptions of their capabilities to implement effective inclusive practices in their classrooms at an urban, primary (elementary) school in south-east Queensland, Australia. Participating teachers (n = 48) responded to an online survey that contained two open-ended questions that focused on understandings and beliefs about inclusive practices, together with the Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practices (TEIP) scale Sharma, Loreman, and Forlin [2012. "Measuring Teacher Efficacy to Implement Inclusive Practices." Journal of Research in Special Educational Needs 12 (1): 12–21]. Responses to the open-ended questions revealed that teachers were positively disposed towards the enactment of inclusive practices in their school. Teachers also reported high levels of efficacy across items on the TEIP scale, indicating that they were mainly confident in implementing inclusive practices in their classrooms. They showed highest levels of uncertainty for items related to involving parents in school activities and informing others about inclusion legislation and policies. Sharing personal teaching stories provides opportunities for enhanced wellbeing and learning for both experienced and pre-service teachers. This paper shares the results of a qualitative pilot study that used narrative inquiry to collect and share teacher stories. The research was conducted in two phases. The first phase collected humorous stories from experienced teachers recalled from the first years of their teaching career. Thematic data analysis investigated the wellbeing and learning impact on those teachers when sharing their stories. The second phase invited pre-service teachers to read and evaluate the impact of humorous stories when preparing for their first school placements. Thematic data analysis investigated the wellbeing and learning impact on pre-service teachers reading these stories. The analysis from both phases demonstrated recurring themes regarding the importance of teacher-student relationships for teacher wellbeing. The results also showed that the sharing and reading of stories had beneficial outcomes such as enhanced wellbeing and enhanced learning for both the teacher storytellers and the pre-service teacher readers. This study provides evidence that the inclusion of real-life stories offers a valuable addition to Initial Teacher Education programs as a way of developing professional and reflective practice. The relationship between technology and fatal intimate partner violence has been previously thought of as distinct and separate. This research paper suggests, however, that online abuse that is considered "spaceless" in fact is intrinsically linked to the perpetration of "real world" and fatal violence. This study examined 100 cases of intimate partner femicide to determine the frequency of technology-facilitated intimate partner violence in Queensland, Australia. Findings indicate that risk factors of intimate partner femicide, including coercive control and stalking are closely associated with technology-facilitated intimate partner violence. This suggests that technology allows offenders to enact an omnipresent violence. Implications highlight the need for future research, policy, and practice to acknowledge the interconnectedness of offline and online abuse in responding to fatal intimate partner violence. The rising number of students in schools identified as being on the autism spectrum has placed pressure on school leaders and staff to gain knowledge and take on new practice. A school-wide autism competency (SAC) approach utilises the research on elements of effective practice to build the capacity of school leaders and staff to create inclusive school cultures, implement evidence-based strategies, and improve outcomes for students on the autism spectrum. This paper reports on the experiences of three schools as they implemented the SAC approach in Queensland, Australia. A multiple case study design was utilised to examine the factors that influenced the implementation process and outcomes achieved at each school. Factors that influenced each school's ability to transform their practice for students on the autism spectrum included engagement of leaders, support from an external coach, involvement of parents, realignment of resources and staff, and the ability to manage change and competing priorities. Findings revealed that although all three schools increased staff's knowledge of students on the autism spectrum, the engagement and actions of leaders and the underlying culture of the school influenced the degree to which changes were implemented and outcomes were realised for students on the autism spectrum. Children in socioeconomically disadvantaged communities often do not access follow-up eye care services when referred from vision screenings; whether this is due to lack of availability is not known. This paper highlights the need for vision and eye care for vulnerable children with practicing clinical optometrists well placed to provide vision care. Vision impairments develop from a young age and may inhibit learning experiences and impact life outcomes. Vision screening to detect and refer vision abnormalities supports children in their education and prevents minor vision impairments from worsening. This research describes outcomes from a vision screening programme for 4– to 5-year-olds delivered in Queensland, Australia. The programme involved all prep children from participating schools in Queensland. Vision screening was conducted with the Parr 4 m Visual Acuity Test and Welch Allyn Spot Vision Screener. A cross-sectional study design was adopted. Descriptive data analyses explored the frequency of vision screening and referral outcomes. Inferential analyses examined associations between vision screening and referral outcomes with socio-economic indexes for areas (SEIFA) scores. Of 71,003 prep students screened, 4,855 (6.8%) received a referral recommendation. A higher proportion of children who received a referral recommendation was from more disadvantaged locations (?2 = 109.16, p < 0.001). Of the students referred, 3,017 were seen by an eye health professional. Further vision assessment of students by an eye health professional revealed that 43.3% of the referred children were diagnosed with a vision abnormality, 18.9% had no vision abnormality and 37.7% had an 'undetermined' diagnosis. A higher proportion of children confirmed with a vision abnormality were from more disadvantaged locations (?2 = 52.27, p < 0.001). It is important that vision screening programmes target disadvantaged populations and support families of children who require further health assessment to access health services. Understanding the knowledge of climate-change impacts on water-resources is a priority. This article goes a step further with the main objective of this study to explore water-practitioners' viewpoints regarding the water supply-side and water demand-side management measures in coping with future climatic impacts to achieve urban water security. Interviews were conducted with water-professionals from regional urban water authorities of Queensland, Australia. From a water-practitioner's viewpoint, surface water is perceived to remain a high-priority water resource for the region, although climate-change is projected to make this resource more vulnerable in the area. Climate-change risks have rarely been considered as a selection-criterion when long-term water solutions were investigated by water-practitioners. Although non-pricing water demand management policies were used to reduce water demand in the region, pricing-based water demand management tools are perceived by the water-professionals to be the most effective at reducing water demand in the study area, if implemented. In a recent paper, community-held archival material was used to evaluate the palaeo-biology of dinosaur track-makers from the 'fireclay caverns' of Mount Morgan. With the ensuing interest, community members disclosed additional photographic documentation of Mount Morgan dinosaur tracks. The described theropodan and ornithischian tracks are consistent with the known Mount Morgan ichnofaunal record, while evidence of Anomoepus track-makers walking with the atypical plantigrade pedal posture has not been previously documented in Australia. This article presents the findings from interviews with thirteen parents of students with severe vision impairment who attend mainstream schools in Queensland, Australia. Participants were interviewed about their experiences in advocating for their children in a range of educational contexts. These experiences varied greatly depending on a number of factors, such as attitudes to inclusivity and ableism, perceptions of vision impairment, school culture, teacher-parent communication, and competing agendas. Using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, the authors provide illuminating data on three broad themes: parents' experiences of advocating for their children, parents' experiences of utilising support networks and funding, and parents' suggestions for schools and teachers. Important recommendations for teachers, schools, parents, students, and service providers are offered, with specific advice to develop a community of care, collaboration, and high expectations for students with vision impairment. For First Peoples across Australia, birds have important connections to kin and Country. We draw on a recent analysis of all Australia's threatened bird taxa to identify on whose traditional Country they occur. Of the 201 imperilled (threatened or Near Threatened) bird taxa facing threats within Australian territory (including Commonwealth waters and offshore islands), 64% occur on lands and waters to which at least 463 First Peoples' groups have a connection. Fourteen bird taxa occur only on Country of a single First Peoples' group while 15 taxa occur on Country of over 50 First Peoples' groups. Four First Peoples' groups, in north Queensland and south-eastern Australia, have over 20 imperilled bird taxa on their Country. Taxa on First Peoples' Country face 78% of the total national threat load on imperilled birds and have 75% of both the research and management needs for relieving threats. All the threats are a consequence of colonisation, suggesting that supporting First Peoples to manage the threats to birds is a moral, and potentially legal, responsibility. Many First Peoples have chosen to engage actively in the conservation of imperilled species but there are numerous additional opportunities for monitoring and active management of Country that will yield benefits. Our analysis can help First Peoples identify which birds on their Country are listed as threatened under western conventions and that they may wish to help conserve; and assist conservation managers to identify First Peoples who might wish to lead or become more involved in imperilled bird management. The Global Biodiversity Framework strongly supports maximising the involvement of First Peoples in environmental management. There are at least 460 First Peoples' groups on which imperilled birds occur, which provides a wide range of opportunities for management if people so choose. The Countries of many First Peoples' groups supports 10 or more imperilled bird taxa, suggesting that support for Country management will often benefit many taxa. The depth and longevity of First Peoples' connection to Country provides them with a perspective lacking in much management. Because all threats to imperilled birds on First Peoples' Country are derived from settlers, there is a moral, and possible legal, case for supporting First Peoples to manage them. Volunteers play a key role in the conservation of many threatened species, yet volunteer motivations for participating in conservation and strategies used for attracting and retaining volunteers remain little studied. Iconic and charismatic megafauna species, such as marine turtles, attract the attention of conservation volunteers worldwide, making this species an ideal case study to explore volunteer motivations. We developed a novel values-based framework that examines the motivations and values of people volunteering with turtles in Queensland, Australia by harmonizing insights from Values Belief Norm (VBN) theory and intrinsic, instrumental, and relational values. We found that although motivations for these volunteers are multi-faceted, common factors underpinning volunteering decisions included values alignment with the organization, social influence, the ability to learn, and optimism. Awareness of these characteristics can assist organizations with designing more effective voluntary programs and further scholarly understanding of drivers of pro-environmental behaviors among a key group of environmental stakeholders. Visitor dispersal is critical in spreading tourism benefits to peripheral regions, with imbalances of visitors a problem for many tourism organisations that warrants better tools for analysis. Gini decomposition of the length of stay and expenditures was used to measure visitor dispersal based on survey data of international visitors (n = 819) departing from Brisbane International Airport. Biplot visualisation and stacked contribution bar charts revealed multiple dimensions of visitor traits influencing dispersal across eight subregions in Queensland and their complex offsetting or compounding dispersion/concentration effects. Our results suggest that including expenditure provides a more comprehensive understanding of dispersal, highlighting "high spend, short stay" visitors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study evaluates the economic potential for Area Wide Management (AWM) of the Queensland fruit fly (Qfly) using the Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) through three case studies across endemic and Pest-Free Areas (PFA) in south-east Australia. The cost of Qfly needs to be identified before the potential benefit of AWM and SIT can be evaluated. We use results from grower workshops and expert elicitation to identify the financial cost of Qfly to growers (the baseline) and the potential impact of AWM as a precursor to SIT (scenarios). Results show a net benefit from maintaining PFA status. In endemic regions, the potential financial benefits to growers of are low. Avoided adjustment costs that contribute to a net benefit in PFA's are sunk in endemic regions. The low threshold for Qfly in markets and on-farm, and availability of cost-effective management options, implies limited benefits from avoided management costs. Market access is uncertain and AWM and SIT alone are not sufficient to access these benefits. Although there may be exceptions, we find limited grower benefits from AWM and SIT in Qfly endemic growing regions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

People who experience incarceration are at increased risk of asthma and have a higher prevalence of risk factors associated with asthma-related mortality. However, there has been little research on the relationship between asthma and mortality in people released from prison. This study examined the association between asthma and all-cause and cause-specific mortality, and estimated the increased risk of asthma-related mortality among adults released from prison compared to the age- and sex-matched general population. We used data from a nested case-control sample (N = 1658) within a retrospective cohort study of all adults released from prisons in Queensland, Australia, from 1994 to 2007 (N = 42015). Deaths were identified using linkage to national mortality records. Nested study cases were sampled from deaths, with a matched control from the cohort. We examined medical and case management records to identify risk factors potentially associated with mortality. Asthma-related mortality in the cohort was compared to that of the matched general population of Queensland. People released from prison were more likely than their age and sex matched general population counterparts to have an asthma-related death (HR = 3.32 95%CI:2.14-5.16). Those who had been identified as having asthma in prison had increased odds of mortality from all-cause (OR = 1.86 95%CI:1.40-2.47), drug-related (OR = 2.5 95%CI:1.40-4.46), cardiovascular-related (OR = 3.2 95%CI:1.57-6.51), and respiratory-related (OR = 3.30 95%CI:1.63-6.70). Among people exposed to incarceration, those with asthma are at elevated risk of death after release from custody. Improved management of respiratory disease in this population may contribute to reducing their high rate of preventable mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Domestic Violence (DV) is a persistent public health issue of global proportions affecting an estimated one in four women worldwide. Civil protection orders or domestic violence orders (DVO) are a legal tool used in many jurisdictions, including Australia, to hold the alleged perpetrators accountable and improve the safety of victims. However, the research on the effectiveness of these orders are mixed and perpetrator non-compliance with such orders continues to be a concern. Few studies examine the situational factors that impact compliance with orders, especially in relation to service engagement and support needs of perpetrators of DV during and beyond the protection order court process. Our study uses focus group data to explore the perceptions of police officers (n = 16) and prosecutors (n = 3) involved in policing and prosecuting DV and the compliance with relevant protection orders in two court districts in Queensland, Australia. Alleged perpetrators' comprehension of their order conditions and intersecting experiences of social disadvantage and complex needs emerged as key factors influencing compliance, along with the role of timely engagement with alleged perpetrators during the court process to maximise respondent comprehension of order conditions and engagement with available and relevant support services. In concluding, we highlight the importance of protective and preventive aspects of the DVO process that combine holistic wraparound support with perpetrator accountability in order to maximise perpetrator compliance and thus victim and family safety. In recent years the publication of online maps documenting frontier conflict between Indigenous peoples and interlopers in Australia has generated great public interest. These new resources are vital memorials to frontier conflict; however, we note they are still relatively "flat" resources, much more akin to visualized spreadsheets with a spatial element. Another new resource, the Frontier Conflict and the Native Mounted Police Database is a comprehensive relational database that comprehensively presents all elements of frontier conflict across the state of Queensland. It collates transcribed primary documents, georectified historical mapping data, and oral histories with archaeological site and artefact level data, and links these multi-tiered sets of information to the known structure, spread, and personnel of the paramilitary government agency, the Native Mounted Police. Rather than a single map being the main outcome, the Frontier Conflict and the Native Mounted Police Database uses the range of primary data to generate a comprehensive series of interactive maps, including layers relating to key historical data sets, as well as making the mass of primary and secondary data upon which the maps are based accessible to the user. In this Reflection, we describe the extent and limitations of the Frontier Conflict and the Native Mounted Police Database, and compare it with other online datasets. In collating frontier conflict relating to Queensland in a single, freely available online resource, we invite the public to actively engage in "truth-telling," by assessing historical evidence for themselves, developing their critical thinking skills, and drawing their own conclusions about the nature and extent of frontier conflict. Residential aged care facilities (RACFs) face severe challenges in the provision of high-quality end of life care. A pilot of a nurse-led end-of-life palliative care consultative service (CiMaS) supporting RACFs was conducted in three RACFs in the West Moreton Region of Queensland, Australia, from May 2018. We conducted a mixed method evaluation comprising: a chart audit of deaths in the 12 months before and after the intervention; focus groups with RACF staff; and interviews with facility directors, primary family members and GPs. Quantitative and Qualitative data were assessed separately with statistical and thematic analyses respectively. The RACFs cared for 277 residents. There were 24 pre-intervention deaths and 44 in the intervention period (28 (64%) referred to CiMaS). There was widespread support for the service. Families felt supported and knowledgeable about what was happening. Care plans were almost always recorded in health records. Patients' symptoms appeared to be better recognised and managed. Staff and Facility managers felt more support than previously, with more responsive and reliable out of hours support. There were significant care improvements in patients not referred to CiMaS, suggesting a learning effect. GPs observed improvements in nursing staff confidence and support to families. Transfers to hospitals fell by two-thirds for both referred and non-referred patients compared with the year before implementation. The program was both efficient and effective. Youth offending has received significant attention in recent years in Queensland and across Australia. While the voices of young people who are offending or at risk of offending are evident in some studies, other reports do not identify them as key stakeholders. A recent university–industry research collaboration sought to prioritise the voices of young people engaging with The Lighthouse, a diversionary service within Townsville Aboriginal and Islander Heath Services (TAIHS), through the use of qualitative, photovoice methods. The primary aim of this photovoice project was to capture the perceptions and needs of young people currently at risk of offending in order to help shape local service delivery. A thematic analysis enabled the identification of four key themes. Participants felt unsafe and under surveillance in public spaces; they wanted more amenities where they could enjoy being in the community with their peers; they reported that peers and family were very important to them; and they appreciated services on offer at The Lighthouse and acknowledged these services supported behavioural change. The findings provide a unique contribution to policy and service delivery focused on young people at risk of offending and to the literature on the use of photovoice methodologies. IMPLICATIONS Photovoice is a creative, participatory method that value adds to research outcomes through participant skill development. Young people participating in, or at risk of, offending can contribute to research, in turn informing policy and practice to better meet their needs. Low participation rates of students studying science at the secondary level are of international concern. One of the under-researched factors influencing low participation rates in the sciences in Australia is primary school student stereotypes concerning science and scientists. We explore how Year 4 (9–10-year-olds) students perceive science, scientists, and a career in science. Data sources included 45 students (m = 29; f = 16) attending six primary schools in diverse contexts in Queensland, Australia. Analysis indicated that when prompted to consider a career in the sciences 13 students aspired to a career in science, 6 students were unsure, and 25 students indicated no aspirations toward an occupation in the sciences. Findings indicated there were no significant differences regarding aspirations towards a science career based on the location of schools with socio-economic status not a salient influence. Categories and sub-categories identified included (i) Stereotypical views of scientists (non-gendered; paraphernalia), and, (ii) Non-Aspirations (difficulties and pressure; science work as physically dangerous). Outcomes provocate research into tensions between the non-gendered language used by students to describe who can be a scientist, on the one hand, and their reluctance to become a scientist due to the masculine nature and dangers of such work, on the other hand. Compulsory distance education has always sought to be inclusive, providing educational opportunities for K-12 students unable to attend mainstream, face-to-face schools for medical, geographical, or personal reasons. However, how to effectively engage these diverse learners has remained a perpetual challenge, with a need for further investigation into the nature of student engagement with compulsory school distance contexts and how teachers can best support it. This qualitative study used focus groups (n = 2 groups, n = 16 participants) to examine teacher definitions and student engagement strategies within eKindy-12 distance education in Queensland, Australia. Categorical analysis was conducted using a priori codes for definitions, focusing on four previously established engagement types (i.e. behavioural, emotional, cognitive, and agentic engagement), and in vivo codes for strategies. Teacher definitions focused strongly on behavioural engagement, but most also contained elements of emotional and cognitive engagement; agentic engagement was only occasionally evidenced via practice descriptions. Teachers described engaging students by: building relationships, creating a safe classroom environment through differentiation, using inclusive technological tools to facilitate interaction and monitor progress, making learning fun and relevant, drawing on school-wide pedagogical frameworks and teaching strategies, and encourage self-regulation. In 2020 Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was identified in Australia. During the pandemic, as essential workers, hospital-based social workers have been on the frontline. This cross-sectional study examines the resilience of social workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, how the pandemic impacted on social work and lessons learnt. Hospital social workers working in three states, namely Victoria, Queensland, and New South Wales were invited to participate in an online web-based survey, providing non-identifiable demographic details and information a) relating to their proximity to COVID-19, b) their degree of resilience (CD-RISC-2), c) professional quality of life, d) perceived social support, e) physical health, f) professional and personal growth during the pandemic, and g) impacts of COVID-19 on their practice. Basic descriptive statistics were computed for variables of interest. Within group, comparisons were made using paired t-tests or one-way ANOVAs for continuous variables as appropriate to investigate possible interstate differences. Regression analyses were conducted to determine which factors contribute to resilience. Social workers, during the pandemic, whether working under the constraints of lockdown or not, demonstrated high levels of resilience. These levels were similar across the three states, unaffected by the degree of infection in the community, indicating that as a group, social workers have high innate levels of resilience. This study provides an in-depth understanding of the impact of COVID-19 on hospital social workers, the long-term impact of the pandemic on social work practice, and potentially useful lessons learnt for the future. The Black-breasted Button-quail is a threatened forest inhabiting button-quail endemic to the east coast of Australia. Their distribution in the largest undeveloped portion of littoral forest within their range has, until this study, remained unsurveyed. In addition, their use of littoral vegetation is poorly described. Here we present findings from targeted camera trapping surveys in the Great Sandy Region collectively; K'gari (Fraser Island), Cooloola and Inskip Peninsula, Queensland. We also review all published and unpublished reports of this species in this region, and assess their veracity. The associations of high veracity records with vegetation communities are presented. The species was most readily associated with littoral forest along the eastern coast of K'gari and Cooloola. Our findings reaffirm the distribution of Black-breasted Button-quail along the coast of K'gari, further they are distributed along the Cooloola coast and in a few isolated inland sites. This study addresses one of the persistent knowledge gaps documented in the 2010 and 2020 Action Plan for Australian Birds, pertaining to the species use and distribution in littoral vegetation of the Great Sandy Region. The Callide Basin Lower Jurassic units had been noted two decades ago as having preserved dinosaur ichnites, however, none had been shown or described at that time. The current study is the first to describe a dinosaur track from this region, a fossil collected over a decade ago from an overburden dump from the Callide Mine (Dunn Creek mine area). The track morphologically resembles those of a large Anomoepus-like 'Anomoepid' and confirms previously unsubstantiated reports of ornithischian tracks at the location. The tracksite represents the third Early Jurassic dinosaur fossil site in Australia. All of these are tracksites restricted to Central Queensland with the Biloela track the only known Australian Jurassic dinosaur print preserved as a concave epirelief (impression). The find contrasts with earlier statements that the open-pit mining practices make the discovery of dinosaur tracks unlikely. Instead, the extraction of overburden rock has the potential of re-discovering additional fossil track-bearing strata. It is hoped that there will be further discoveries made within the region. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, restrictions were implemented, however, data indicates road crash rates have not decreased proportionately to the decline in traffic density. This study explored how speeding and phone use while driving (road behaviors associated with a high crash risk) changed as a result of COVID-19 restrictions in Queensland. Two cross-sectional studies were conducted in Queensland, Australia to examine self-reported changes in speeding and phone use while driving before, during and after the easing of restrictions (while also considering exposure to the road and driving location). Study 1 (n = 351) was conducted between 12 May and 12 June 2020, when the majority of COVID-19 restrictions were enforced. Study 2 (n = 427) was conducted between 24 June and 12 August 2020, when restrictions were easing. The findings indicated, overall, self-reported speeding and phone use significantly decreased during restrictions (likely due to reduced travel), but not for those who continued to drive regularly. There was an additional, significant self-reported decrease in phone use while driving after restrictions were eased when compared to engagement during restrictions, which may (in part) be due to the simultaneous introduction of roadside mobile phone detection cameras. These findings highlight the importance of visible deterrence and provide a glimpse of possible consequences if there is a more sustained reduction in policing presence on roads. As more sources have been made available by the Legacies of British Slavery project, it is clear that ties between Atlantic world slavery and Queensland's sugar industry are considerably more extensive than previously understood. This article goes beyond looking at money and men to explore what this means for understandings of race, slavery and indenture on Australia's sugar plantations. It argues that slavery was understood in specific ways by West Indians after emancipation, and that race was increasingly used to bolster white supremacy, both of which adversely affected Pacific Islanders in Queensland. There have been at least 100 governmental inquiries into teacher education in Australia since the 1970s, making thousands of recommendations, the majority of which have never been fully actioned or realised. Additionally, there is minimal evidence about the efficacy of this continuous review cycle. Here, we problematise these issues by conducting a comparative analysis of the Bassett report, Review of Teacher Education in Queensland, the first review of independent teacher education in Australia conducted in 1978, and the most recent review by the Teacher Education Ministerial Advisory Group, Action Now: Classroom Ready Teachers. Applying discourse analysis techniques associated with Foucauldian archaeology, findings reveal: a self-referential use of policy is accelerating; those involved are less likely to have knowledge of the discipline of education; similarities in the discourses despite the 40-year timeframe; and increased marginalisation of teacher educators. In the light of these findings, the authors highlight the need for teacher educators to be politically savvy about the mythologising and canonising of allowable problems in teacher education. Dinosaur tracks associated with coal-mines of the Middle to Upper Jurassic (Callovian–Tithonian) Walloon Coal Measures (Clarence–Morton Basin) have been reported on more than any other track-bearing formation in Australia, yet due to the brevity of ichnological information, remain poorly known. All these tracks were found in sediments directly above coal seams in the ceilings of subterranean mines. This style of mining ceased more than a quarter of a century ago, and with many of the original mines having been back-filled or closed, ichnological investigations are restricted to the study of museum specimens and archival photographs. Here, we consolidate data from the literature, present previously unpublished archival photographs, and show the 3D topography of all accessioned track specimens from the Walloon Coal Measures. We recognise eleven track-bearing sites, most of which produced large (length of 30–50 cm) and very large (length greater than 50 cm) sized theropod tracks, including Australia's largest carnivorous dinosaur footprint (79 cm long). The domination of theropod tracks is unique among Australian dinosaur tracksites. In light of the absence of near coveal body-fossil candidates, the Walloon Coal Measures ichnofaunal assemblages fills significant gaps in our understanding of Australia's Jurassic dinosaur fauna. The ichnological and palaeobiological interpretation of the first dinosaur tracks described from the Lower Jurassic (Sinemurian) Razorback beds, anthropogenic 'fireclay caverns' of Mount Morgan, Australia, is reviewed. This track sequence of two size categories has been widely accepted as having been formed by a theropod walking in an uncharacteristic quadrupedal stance. However, the morphology of the purported manus impression remained ambiguous due to the poor reproduction quality of the original image data. Here, we present previously unpublished archival photographic and replica material of this track surface. These clearly show the morphological details of the track series that are consistent with registration by two different sized bipedal track-makers. Overall, our findings illustrate that retained archival data can be pivotal in the resolution of palaeoichnological obscurities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Public participation is embedded within requirements for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in Australia and many other countries. Although the widespread requirements for public participation have been criticised as rhetorical, it is deemed to have significant symbolic significance. The use of public participation to gather multiple perspectives expresses an intent to improve environmental decision-making and respond to increasing demand for a role in decisions that affect people's homes, livelihoods, and communities. This research examines participant experience of public participation in the EIA processes undertaken for four proposed coal mining developments close to the small, remote cattle grazing community of Alpha, in Queensland's Galilee Basin in the central west of the state. Participant experience is examined through the lens of competence in environmental decision-making, which asserts that, for public participation to be competent, participants need access to information and its interpretations. Participants in 25 semi-structured interviews described two major flaws in public participation in relation to the proposed projects: proponent control of project information, and the government's 'hands-off' approach.
