This article explores the evolution of unaccompanied minors' (UMs') decisions and migratory experiences after arrival in Italy through Libya. Until now, research has not longitudinally documented UMs' decision-making processes and experiences during their migration in Europe. We draw on data collected within the ERC-ChildMove project, a multi-sited and follow-up study, and used a trajectory approach (Schapendonk et al. [2020]. "Re-Routing Migration Geographies: Migrants, Trajectories and Mobility Regimes." Geoforum; Journal of Physical, Human, and Regional Geosciences 116: 211–216.) to analyse in-depth interviews initially conducted with thirty-nine participants that were followed across Europe over a two-year period. We use the notion of 'mobility-in-migration' (Veale and Donà [2014]. Child and Youth Migration: Mobility-in-Migration in an Era of Globalization. Springer.) to question UMs' migratory decisions and analyse the periods of mobility and immobility experienced during these trajectories. Our findings indicate that UMs' decisions in Europe are heavily influenced by the quality of formal support and care, the length and outcomes of legal procedures, and trans-local support networks. The study analyses how such factors may repeatedly re-route or distort initially planned trajectories, produce involuntary mobility or end the minors' trajectories. Finally, the paper demonstrates that periods of mobility and immobility coexist at different local scales within the overall migration trajectory of unaccompanied minors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The harm from others' drinking alcohol is well documented by researchers in different countries and with different cultural backgrounds across the world. Studies highlighted the use of alcohol in a problematic way as a crucial factor for a child's normal physical, emotional, and social development. This study estimated the prevalence of children living with at least one person with a problematic drinking pattern (PPDP) in the household in 19 European countries. Furthermore, it examined age and gender differences in the prevalence of PPDP. Data from the Standardized European Alcohol Survey project (RARHA SEAS-1) and Eurostat was used to calculate the prevalence of children living with at least one PPDP. A four-item version of the Rapid Alcohol Problems Screen test was applied. Descriptive statistics and binary logistic regression analysis were conducted with SPSS. The prevalence of children living together with a PPDP varied from 6.2% in Italy to 35.2% in Lithuania. The total number of children living with PPDP was estimated to 9,271,150 in 19 European countries in 2015. The number of children living in an environment with PPDP is particularly high. Despite norms and regulations on accessibility, people with disabilities continue to face many problems in the built environment and it happens, in particular, in historic places and buildings. These, so numerous in Italian and European old cities, are not accessed only as tourist and/or cultural attractions but they are often accessed as public places, workspaces and study places in which accessibility should be ensured. This article is based on a qualitative research carried out in Trento, an old Italian city, in which people with disabilities and representatives of public and private organisations working in the area of urban or building construction and maintenance were interviewed. The findings show, in particular, that norms and regulations on conservation often prevail on those on accessibility, even when they could coexist and, at the same time, improve universal accessibility in historical built environments. In Italy, Europe and elsewhere, standards should be applied to ensure equal rights to people with disabilities in all aspects of life, including access to the built environment. Local, national and international governments and institutions assign great importance to the conservation of historic city centres and buildings. This study found that there is only a partial - and often inconsistent - implementation of the laws on accessibility in historic built environments, as priority is given to the protection of such environments. Precedence given to the conservation of historic built environments causes many accessibility issues, thus limiting the possibility of people with disabilities to move around independently and carry out everyday life activities. The study suggests that art-historical values and accessibility can go hand in hand, in particular if people with disabilities are included in decision-making processes and can have their say through participatory planning.
