This study examines university-driven partnerships that promote entrepreneurship in underserved communities, drawing from the experiences of NCGrowth, an economic development center at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We address the following questions: Who are the central stakeholders? How do they interact? What do their challenges and experiences imply for policymaking and practice in nurturing entrepreneurship ecosystems in underserved communities? We employed social-network analyses of NCGrowth's projects spanning 2013–2019, supplemented by document analysis of archival data and in-depth interviews. The study uncovers highly asymmetric connections among stakeholders, with universities and government agencies emerging as dominant entities, leveraging universities' specialized knowledge and community relationships. Nevertheless, challenges surface due to overlapping roles as facilitators, the absence of consistent community carriers of development plans, and a dearth of financial institutions. Our findings advocate for an ecosystem-focused approach to economic development in underserved areas, emphasizing the involvement of additional anchor institutions such as hospitals, major corporations, and philanthropists. Furthermore, policies and practices should integrate the objectives of entrepreneurship, economic growth, and social equity to cultivate inclusive entrepreneurship ecosystems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

It is hypothesized that a well-functioning financial market is necessary but not sufficient condition to achieve the expected economic growth. Therefore, policy instruments of government aimed at streamlining financial sector activity in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) are imperative. As a result, this paper explores the effect of financial development on economic growth by allowing the link between the two far variables to be mediated by the quality of institutions for the period 2000–2019. Using Twenty-nine (29) countries and the System-Generalized Method of Moments (system-GMM) estimation method, it is found that financial development has a positive and significant effect on economic growth. In addition, it is found that, when rule of law, political stability, and regulatory quality are highly effective, the positive effect of financial development on economic growth is magnified. Sustainable development goal (SDG) achievement has gained increasing trend due to the current economic uncertainty that demands the attention of scholars, practitioners, and regulators. Hence, the study examines the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) responsibilities and economic development such as economic growth, net national income and FDI on the SDG achievements in BRICS countries. The secondary data is considered for the study which was collected from various resources like SDG reports published by the united nation and World Bank Indicators (WDI) from 1991 to 2020. The current research has checked them without structural breaks stationarity using Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test, Phillips–Perron (PP) test, and Kwiatkowski–Phillips–Schmidt–Shin (KPSS), while stationarity with structural breaks has been examined using the 'zivot-andrews' test. The study also employed the ARDL technique to verify the association among the constructs. The findings revealed that ESG responsibilities, economic growth, net national income, FDI, and inflation positively correlate with SDG achievements in BRICS countries. The increased concern for green economic growth made many countries shift from simply pursuing economic growth to a green economic growth mode to protect resources and the environment. Against this background, we calculated China's green GDP and studied the impact of economic growth on environmental quality. For green economic growth, we employed income per capita, its square, information and communication technology, sports industry ecosystem efficiency, and human capital. We applied innovative econometric techniques such as cross-sectional dimensions (CSDs) tests, cross-sectional augmented Dickey-Fuller (CADF), cross-sectional augmented Pesaran and Shin (CIPS) tests, Westerlund co-integration test, generalised method of moments (GMM), and fully modified least squares (FMOLS) estimators. The obtained outcomes showed the inverted U-shaped EKC hypothesis, which validates the green economic growth theme. However, ICT was negatively associated with carbon emissions. Similarly, sports industry eco-system efficiency (SIE) showed an insignificant negative impact on the explained variable. Human capital was inversely associated with carbon emissions. In addition, the moderate role of the SIE significantly reduces carbon emissions. In addition, the D-H panel causality test results showed a significant causal association among the selected variables. This research aims to identify the impact of agriculture, forest and fishing value-added on international business, capital flow, and economic growth for India from 2000 to 2022, by examining short-term and long-term equilibrium using the Auto Regressive Distributive lag (ARDL) approach. Agriculture value added is taken as a dependent variable, and inward Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), stock of net FDI, economic growth and trade openness are taken as independent variables. Results indicate that there exists a long-term and short-term relationship between agriculture value added, economic growth and trade openness. Economic growth and trade openness have a statistically significant relationship with agricultural value added in the short and long run. Inward FDI and stock of FDI are not significant to agriculture value added. ARDL Bound test results indicate that there is a long-term cointegrating relation among the variables. The error correction term is also strong and significant (−13.96), suggesting resistance to shocks. Existing literatures coverage on agriculture and international business is scarce in the Indian context, and this research will be significant in that line. The results of this study resonate with the findings of a few studies conducted in other geographical areas, indicating the fact that the receptivity and absorptive capacity prevailing in an economy play a dominant role in receiving maximum benefits from inward capital flow leading to economic growth. This research reinstates that agriculture still influences economic growth in India. Openness is essential for creating a conducive atmosphere for economic development. The relationship between financial development and economic growth has been widely debated in the economics literature, but the results have been inconsistent and vary between the short and long run. In this study, we investigate the causal relationship between financial development and economic growth in Ethiopia using annual data from 1980 to 2021. We employ the Toda-Yamamoto causality test and the nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) modeling framework to analyze the data. Our results show that none of the variables are stationary at the level, but after applying first differences, all variables become stationary. Using the Toda-Yamamoto causality test, we find no causality running from financial development to economic growth, but there is evidence of reverse causality from economic growth to financial development. Furthermore, the NARDL model results suggest that economic growth drives financial development, and the relationship between financial development and economic growth in Ethiopia is nonlinear and asymmetric. Specifically, neither positive nor negative shocks to economic growth affect financial development in the short run, but both affect it in the long run and in joint short run and long run effects. We conclude from our study that financial development may not guarantee economic growth without building better institutions and following sound and stable fiscal policies. Consequently, constructing an effective economic growth strategy that maintains financial development is crucial. Our findings have significant implications for policymakers, academics, and investors and underscore the importance of informed decision-making based on a thorough understanding of the relationship between financial development and economic growth. This paper selects development indicators of primary industry, secondary industry, and tertiary industry, as well as indicators of public lifestyle, to measure the impact of economic development and general public lifestyle on the environment. A grey relational degree model is used to analyse Tianjin's evolving characteristics from 2000 to 2020 on the balanced development of the economy and environment. The results suggest that: Firstly, Tianjin's overall coupling degree between economic growth and environmental change varies from 0.56 to 0.75, which is at a moderate coordination level, and the degree of coordination between tertiary industry and environment is high. Secondly, taking time as the axis, the relational degree is significant between economic growth and environmental change. From 2015 to 2020, the synergy between the development of the secondary industry and the environment declined, indicating that the development of the secondary sector has caused some environmental destruction. On these grounds, Tianjin should give full play to its traditional advantages and comparative advantages, lay emphasis on the optimisation and upgrading of its industrial structure in the process of continuously deepening the integration of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei, promote the deep integration of manufacturing and service industry, and boost the quality its economic development. In Indonesia, fiscal decentralisation has been implemented for two decades, and it is expected that the regions will have a sufficient level of independence to increase economic growth and welfare. This study investigates the influence of fiscal decentralisation and human development on regional economic growth. The sample data comprised 484 county-level in Indonesia and utilised the panel data method. The findings showed that the central government grant, locally generated revenue, and human capital development positively influenced regional economic growth, although the degree of decentralisation negatively affected regional growth. Meanwhile, for regions with independence above 50 per cent, decentralisation, locally generated revenue, central government transfer and provincial loans and human capital development positively influenced regional economic growth. In addition, findings also indicated that a dynamic effect exists, implying that the performance of previous regional economic growth influenced current economic achievements. This study tackles the debate on the relationship between insurance development and economic growth by providing new evidence on the insurance sector. Most of the existing empirical studies focus primarily on the banking sector. This article applies linear dynamic panel-data approaches to examine the nexus between insurance (life insurance, non-life insurance, and the total insurance) and economic growth in 16 OECD countries from 2009 to 2020. We show that insurance development is associated with economic growth. The relationship between life and non-life insurance premiums and economic growth is non-linear. Based on the analysis of the data, an inverted U-shaped relationship is observed between insurance premiums and economic growth, thereby supporting the hypothesis reported in the literature on the non-linear relationship between financial development and economic growth. This implies that more finance may only be better up to a point, after which it tends to harm growth. Thus, our results confirm that the relationship between the insurance sector and economic growth appears to behave like the association between the financial industry and GDP. These findings offer several useful empirical implications for insurance companies and certain perspectives that would help policymakers, governments in OECD and other regions identify important aspects that can be considered while formulating financial regulations related to insurance activities. In a context where many African populations are excluded from the traditional banking system, financial inclusion appears to be a determining factor in enabling agents in need of financing, notably producers and consumers, to have easy access to financial services in order to contribute to the multiple efforts of economic and social progress of nations. However, to date, the literature remains silent on the optimal level of financial inclusion that can boost growth. Consequently, this paper aims to verify whether there is a non-linear relationship between economic growth and financial inclusion in the WAEMU zone. Econometric applications based on the PCSE (panel-corrected standard error) model on a panel of eight countries for the period 2014–2018 reveal a U-shaped relationship between the extended banking rate and economic growth. Economic growth shows two different behaviours depending on whether one is on the side of one or the other of the regimes inherent to the inflection point. In view of these results, we suggest that the public authorities: i) intensify campaigns to open accounts in local languages, ii) promote the development of online sales applications for goods and services, iii) pursue the dematerialisation of financial operations within public administrations. Financial development and its relationships with economic growth and income inequality have recently received considerable attention. The present study investigates the relationships between financial development and (i) economic growth, using data from 44 countries; (ii) economic inequality, using data from 42 middle-income countries. Estimates are obtained through a panel Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model for a period of 23 years (1995-2018). Results reveal that financial development contributes to economic growth in both groups of countries in the long run. However, the contribution financial development makes to economic growth is more noticeable in the case of upper-middle income countries. Additionally, Granger causality test based on Vector Error Correction (VEC) showed two-way Granger causality between financial development and economic growth. Findings disclosed an inverted U-shaped association between financial development and income inequality for both lower-middle income and upper-middle income countries. This study examines the relationship between green energy, non-renewable energy, financial development, and economic growth with carbon footprint by using panel data from 63 emerging and developed economies for the time period from 1990 to 2020. The study utilises second-generation panel data econometrics techniques to investigate cross-section independence and adjust for cross-section heterogeneity. The studies also used the CIPS and CADF unit root tests, Wester Lund bootstrap cointegration techniques, and AMG and CCEMG heterogeneous panel causality techniques. The findings show that, over the long run, all variables are cointegrated. Additionally, the data indicate that non-renewable energy consumption leads to carbon footprint, whereas green energy reduces environmental degradation and supports the reduction of environmental hazards. Likewise, financial development has a considerable negative effect on environmental degradation. A statistically significant bidirectional correlation is found between green energy, nonrenewable energy, financial development, economic growth, and carbon footprint according to the Dumitrescu-Hurlin causality test. Finally, according to the findings of the study, the economies that were examined should use more green energy in order to reduce their carbon footprint. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The study investigates the effect of financial development on major economic indicators, i.e., economic growth, inflation, and employment by applying System GMM estimation technique for a panel of 120 countries for the period 1997 to 2017. Four distinct proxies of financial development are used, i.e., private sector credit, liquid liabilities, money and quasi money, and bank credit. The results contradict the traditional supply-lending hypothesis and reveal negative impact of financial development on economic growth. Moreover, financial development is found to be positively associated with inflation and employment growth. It is suggested that there is need to reform and strengthen the supervision of financial intermediaries to ensure sound prudential lending practices. Natural resources are abundant in Africa and must be used to achieve macroeconomic goals like growth and development. Political settlements are important to achieving these results because they materially affect how natural resource governance is carried out. The pursuit of growth and development is impacted by these settlements. Political settlements may either make it easier or harder to achieve these macroeconomic goals. Natural resource rents in some polities do not result in growth and development because of win-lose political agreements. However, this need not be the case as demonstrated by the Botswana case. This study used Botswana as a case study to illustrate political settlements analysis of natural resource governance. It asked, 'what effect do political settlements have on the management of natural resources in Botswana?' It concluded that win-win political settlements produced inclusive resource exploitation, resulting in economic growth and development and a rise in citizen welfare. Knowledge innovation is a key factor in industrial development and regional economic growth. Understanding regional knowledge innovation and its dynamic changes is one of the fundamental tasks of regional policy-makers and business decision-makers. Although many existing studies have been conducted to support in understanding knowledge innovation patterns, data-driven and intuitive visual analysis of georeferenced knowledge innovation has not been sufficiently studied. In this work, we analysed knowledge innovation by visually exploring big georeferenced scholarly data. More specifically, we first applied network analysis and statistical methods to derive key measures (e.g., the number of publications and academic collaborations) of knowledge innovation with multiple spatial scales. We then designed geovisualizations to explicitly represent the multiscale spatiotemporal patterns and relations. We integrated the analytical methods and geovisualizations into an interactive tool to facilitate stakeholders' visual learning and analysis of knowledge innovation with a spatial focus. This research aims to consider determinants of economic growth, such as financial development, institutional quality, and information and communication technology (ICT) penetration, which have been explored separately in previous studies and have produced mixed findings in different regions. Using the two-step system generalized method of moments (GMM) estimator for a dynamic panel dataset of 35 selected emerging countries, several research findings could be drawn as the following. First, both ICT penetration and institutional quality have significantly positive effects on economic growth. On the contrary, economic development could be hampered by financial development. Second, there are the U-shape and inverted U-shape relations for the cases of institutional quality and ICT penetration on economic growth, respectively. Third, the interaction effect of ICT penetration and financial development could enhance economic growth while the negative impact of financial development on economic development is amplified by the high level of institutional quality. These findings are robust to the global financial crisis control and the use of an alternative ICT proxy when setting up the approach of principal component analysis. Given these findings from emerging countries, some policy challenges that policy-makers should address by simultaneously considering each growth driver, such as financial development, ICT evolution, and institutional quality and interactions between them, as well as the non-monotonic effect of ICT penetration and institutional quality to facilitate economic growth. Using panel data regression of 48 countries during 2000–2019, the research aims to examine the role of budget balance on economic growth in Asia. Also, with the application of Panel Threshold Regression (PTR), the author tests the nonlinear relationship and to identify an optimal budget balance threshold to achieve the most effective economic growth. The study shows that the lower national budget deficit level is remained, the greater economic growth in Asia is driven. Additionally, it is revealed that an effective economic growth is best promoted with budget balance ranging from 22.6935% GDP to 25.1950% GDP. However, only a few of nations in the sample have achieved the optimal threshold of budget balance above during the period of research. Meanwhile, several countries in Asia have been suffering from the budget deficit for many years. Therefore, in order to stabilize the economic development, most of the Asian countries should adjust the national budget revenue and expenditure process to keep the balance properly. The objective of this paper is to examine the simultaneous relationship between fiscal decentralization, economic growth, and human development using the panel data of 18 countries over the 2011–2017 period. 3SLS-GMM (Three Stage Least Squares—Generalized Method of Moments Estimator) and GMM-HAC (Generalized Method of Moments—Heteroskedastic and Autocorrelation Consistent estimator) are employed to obtain unbiased coefficients in the system of equation. The results indicate that the significant relationship does exist between fiscal decentralization, economic growth, and human development from different directions. Specifically, economic growth and human development are positively and negatively affected by fiscal decentralization, respectively. These results hold true with alternative estimation methods and sub-indexes of decentralization. Interestingly, economic growth is fostered by human development index, as justified by the statistical evidence of the studied sample, but these results are found to be consistent as well when it comes to expenditure-based decentralization. However, in the opposite direction, the impact of human development on economic growth is ambiguous and only remains significant in the case of expenditure decentralization purposefully utilized as an explanatory variable. Thirdly, economic growth does not give rise to the efficiency of fiscal decentralization, yet could reduce human development instead. Financial development impacts a country's economic growth and development. Due to this, many nations have sought new ways to bring about financial sector development. For developing economies, innovations in the financial sector are a sure bet for the development of financial inclusion. Mobile money is one of them. However, as the financial sector innovate, the Central Bank may lose control, rendering monetary policy ineffective. Therefore, this study examines one such innovation's effect on monetary policy effectiveness. Using SVAR and monthly data spanning from January 2012 to December 2018, the study found that monetary policy becomes less effective under mobile money growth. The study further revealed that policy rates respond to mobile money growth in Ghana. The number of rural populations is increasing year by year, but the rural economy is developing slowly and lacking certain vitality, and resources are wasted excessively in the process of agricultural production. As a result, the agro-ecological complex system is inefficient, unreasonable in structure, low in output, and slow in regional economic growth. This paper uses the spatial panel model to study and analyse the agricultural innovation ecosystem and economic growth and by analysing the spatial influencing factors of various variables a spatial Dubin model is constructed. Moreover, this paper combines the classic panel and the space model and expands the space model into a space panel model. Finally, this paper combines the regional economic development to conduct an experimental analysis on the correlation of the agricultural innovation ecosystem and economic growth. From the research results, it can be seen that the method proposed in this paper has certain practical significance. Knowledge is an essential ingredient for economic development, growth and gaining a competitive advantage. In order to produce novel and valuable knowledge, it is advantageous, perhaps vital, to rely on insights gained from prior research efforts. Those knowledge spillovers (KS) provide the rationale for sustained economic growth and produce unique place-based knowledge spaces. Due to the spatial embeddedness and stickiness of knowledge, most investigations mainly pay attention to the localized nature of KS, but what about those spillovers from other jurisdictions, or perhaps even from across the globe? To analyse the role played by international KS, the present study investigates to what extent international KS shape the evolution of the UK science and technology space. The first step involves creating knowledge spaces following the methodology outlined by Kogler et al. (2013; 2017) for the period 2006-15. Subsequently, we are following the paper trail of publications and patents developed by UK authors and inventors to depict to what degree international KS in specific science and technology domains have contributed to the production of novel knowledge in the UK. The results indicate that four out of five citations made in publications and patents in the UK are the works of authors and inventors residing elsewhere. This has important policy implications considering recent tendencies to curtail trade and the free movement of labour, all of which contribute to the diffusion of knowledge. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Integration into global value chains (GVCs) provides opportunities for economic development, but the extent and nature of these opportunities differ across countries. The economic impact of a country's participation in GVCs can be modified by domestic institutional arrangements in a variety of ways depending on the types of GVCs. Most recent empirical and correlational studies assume that causality leads to economic growth through the participation of GVCs and institutions, but an inverse relationship between them is also feasible and only a few studies have analyzed this possibility. Using a large panel data set of sixty countries from 2000 to 2016, this paper contributes to closing these gaps using instrumental variable analysis as an empirical strategy. Key findings include that GDP per capita is positively affected by participation in GVCs and that this effect is greater when such participation is accompanied by institutional facilitation. These findings suggest that participation in GVCs accompanied by well-functioning domestic institutions can be highly effective in enhancing countries' economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
