This paper explores the knowledge network structure of foreign research literature by applying the qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) method to the field of information science and library science (ISLS) from the perspective of the cocitation of social network actors such as authors, institutions, countries, and literature, and it further reveals the future application trends of this method. [Method/process] Based on 86 journals in the ISLS field that were downloaded from the Web of Science using the QCA method, the social network analysis (SNA) method and the visual analysis tool Gephi are used to analyse the author cooperation network, the research institution cooperation network, the national cooperation network, the cocitation network, the cutting-edge trends, etc., of journal papers. The analysis shows that the QCA method covers a wide range within the field of ISLS, but the research topics involved in this field are not concentrated, and the author cooperation network has scale-free characteristics. The application of the QCA method is still dominant in European and American countries, and China, the USA, and Italy all play key roles in the national cooperation network. To address environmental problems, efforts to green financial systems are proliferating across the globe. However, green finance policy approaches differ substantially and in ways left unexplained in current literature. Focusing on the EU and China as the most active and influential in green finance, the paper provides a comparative analysis and conceptualization of their approaches. The analysis is based on the dissection of policy documents, a review of stakeholder statements and articles, and insights from semi-structured interviews and participant observation. The paper finds that in terms of similar characteristics, both parties seek inclusive expertise input, establish thematic committees, and initiate green finance efforts through financial system-wide guidelines. In terms of different characteristics, the paper finds that through a consultation-based, transparent, and limited mandate approach, the EU is characterized by longer time horizons and organic growth. This can be contrasted with the Chinese technocratic, closed-door, and non-limited mandate approach, characterized by rapid rollout and command-and-control growth. These findings can be conceptualized as a bottom-up market-facilitating approach in the EU and a top-down market-steering approach in China. The different approaches help explain current difficulties in coordination between the EU and China and imply that cooperation is only possible through compatibility rather than harmonization. The findings show that different governance models can actively use the state to pursue sustainable development, and second that such an active state can function in very different ways towards the same goals. This article examines the concept of the "middle technology trap" as a critical challenge for China in transitioning from a middle-income to a high-income economy. It argues that overcoming this trap is essential for China to achieve high-quality economic development and sustain its growth momentum. The study compares China's technological landscape with that of both developed economies and those stuck in the middle-income trap, identifying the necessity of transitioning from applied to original technology for economic leapfrogging. Through comprehensive analysis, it is highlighted that China's current technological capabilities, although leading in certain areas, predominantly remain at an intermediate level, characterized by a significant reliance on foreign core technologies and a lack of original technological innovation. The paper further explores historical contexts, policy implications, and strategic reforms required to navigate this trap, emphasizing the importance of an open policy, the cultivation of a robust innovation ecosystem, and the strategic role of government in facilitating technological progress and industrial upgrading. It draws on the experiences of developed economies and successful latecomers, advocating for a "new whole nation system" that embraces openness and global integration, rather than isolation. By analyzing the complex interplay between technology diffusion, talent migration, industrial policies, and the global geopolitical landscape, this study provides insights into the systemic reforms and strategic initiatives China must undertake. It stresses the need for a balanced approach between leveraging external technologies and fostering domestic innovation capabilities to escape the middle technology trap and secure a position as a global technology leader. It is an important way to realize rural revitalization and sustainable development to guide rural settlement transition (RST) in an appropriate way. This paper uses actor network theory (ANT) to construct a theoretical framework for the study of RST. Taking two typical villages with different transition paths in rural areas of North China Plain as examples, this paper reveals the mechanism of RST and makes a comparative analysis. The results show that: 1) after identifying problems and obligatory passage point, key actors recruit heterogeneous actors into the actor network by entrusting them with common interests, and realize RST under the system operation. 2) Rural settlements under different transition paths have similarities in the problems to be solved, collective actions and policy factors, but there are differences in the transition process, mechanism and effect. The actor network and mechanism of RST through the path of new rural community construction are more complex and the transition effect is more thorough. In contrast, the degree of RST of retention development path is limited if there is no resource and location advantage. 3) Based on the applicable conditions of different paths, this paper designs a logical framework of 'Situation-Structure-Behavior-Result' to scientifically guide the identification of RST paths under the background of rural revitalization. The study introduces the Five-Year Plan as an assignable Chinese experience for attaining comprehensive development to provide policy reference for goal-based development related to sustainability. Before illustrating a dynamic localized implementation path of merging the UN Development Strategy and China's national planning policies, the paper uses quantitative comparative analysis to depict an overview of this dynamic. Two key features, goal integration and development efficiency, were then built to characterize China's multidimensional development goal implementation capacity. An urban subway network system is a complex public transportation system. To compare rail transit braking digital command control strategies based on neural network, this article analyzes and studies the characteristics of subway vehicle driver controllers and their design methods from three aspects: mechanical, electrical and software-assisted design. The learning rule of the BP neural network is called the mentor system learning rule, which is a kind of error-correcting algorithm. In the learning and training process, the expected output value needs to be given. The weights and thresholds of the BP neural network are optimized by selecting the parameters of the SA algorithm. The search method of SA is heuristic, and it has the following advantages: The selection of the initial solution does not affect the optimal solution. The simplified model extracts the core data processing individual analysis. In this paper, the physical data are extracted from the physical entity operation process for analysis, and the twin model is established to extract the twin data for analysis. This paper uses the characteristics of physical data to test the modeling effect and utilizes the twin data to carry out algorithm experiments on physical data. The ultimate goal is to use twin data to predict the state information of physical entities. The network error in the scheme designed by the article is 6%. The smooth implementation of this research constitutes an important reference for the design of subway train network control systems in other cities in China. This paper investigates carbon emission peak in China based on a comparative analysis of energy transition in China and the United States (US). The LMDI model is adopted to decompose carbon emissions into several driving factors in 2000–2018 for China and the US. Gray forecasting and NAR neural network are combined to predict peak time and identify optimal transition paths. The factor decomposition indicates that energy intensity is the main inhibitory factor for increased carbon emissions, while economic growth and population size are contributors for increased carbon emissions. There are significant differences in the impact of structure effect on carbon emissions in the two countries. The industry decomposition indicates that industry development is a critical inhibitor for increased carbon emissions after 2014 in China. The growth of transport and agriculture are basically contributing to increase carbon emissions in China and the US. The forecast results illustrate that China could complete carbon emission peak by 2030 under the baseline scenario, with a peak volume of 11354.72Mt CO2. Under the industrial structure adjustment scenario, the carbon peak year may be advanced to 2028. While adjusting industrial structure and energy consumption structure at the same time, China could achieve carbon emission peak at 9918.21Mt CO2 in 2025. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: According to the World Population Outlook (2019), people over 65, usually accompanied by various chronic diseases, will make up 16% of the population in 2050. Therefore, the health problems of middle-aged and elderly people are becoming the focus of current global attention. Some scholars have found that the health of middle-aged and elderly people is related to the childhood socio-economic environment. Methods: Using the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) data, this paper innovatively constructed four measurement dimensions of health (namely, self-rated health, physical health, emotional health, and mental health). Moreover, logistic regression was used to explore the impact of childhood socio-economic environment (such as parent's education level, work experience, etc.) on the health status of middle-aged and elderly people. Results: Compared with a poor childhood social-economic environment, a good childhood socio-economic environment is more advantageous to the self-rated health of middle-aged and elderly people, especially a childhood socio-economic environment close to the medium level; the psychological health of middle-aged and elderly people who have experienced an adverse childhood socio-economic environment was better than those who did not; the childhood socio-economic environment has no apparent impact on the cognitive situation of middle-aged and elderly people. Conclusions: Some policy implications can be drawn. For example, the government should vigorously introduce policies to help migrant workers' children receive education in cities and provide special education guarantees for migrant workers' children. Nowadays, China increasingly sees education as a critical component of becoming a world emerging power. Since 2015, China has implemented its new education strategy, named the "World first-class universities and world first-class disciplines" project. In this context, the university's internal governance has become a critical factor for the Chinese standards to construct world first-class universities. The Chinese government has published a series of related documents to enhance university autonomy and improve external conditions with university governance's mechanism reform. The paper firstly discusses the research statutes and proposes the analytical framework based on the stakeholder theory and quadrilateral model. Secondly, it presents the history and progress of the university's internal governance in China and Europe and summarizes their experiences and characteristics. Thirdly, it discusses the similarities and differences between Europe and China in the universities' internal governance, which focuses on the internal governance framework and the power distribution. In this way, the university budget and finance, teacher's appointment and promotion, enrollment power, curriculum design, research, and even the housing and equipment assignment are all analyzed. Finally, it summarizes China and Europe's internal governance models with the key factors and prominent features in the different models. Policy-makers are seeking to build vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystems (EEs) to promote innovative entrepreneurship. However, the role of government policy in EEs, especially in the emerging economy context, is poorly understood, lacking a systematic concept of policy and theoretical framework, clear policy classification, and empirical research considering distinctive characteristics of policy mixes in EEs. This paper introduces the concept of EE policy mixes and classifies them into seven policy instruments. Using data from 21 national high-tech zones (NHZs) in China, fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) is applied to identify effective configurations of EE policy mixes that support early-stage and late-stage technology start-ups to produce high entrepreneurial performance. The configurational analysis shows that EE policy mixes present causal complexity and stage differences. Based on interpreting multiple policy interactions, we reveal the differentiated support mechanisms of EE policy mixes in NHZs and draw out their implications for research, policy, and practice. This study contributes to the EE literature by adopting a policy-mix perspective to examine the role of policy, exploring the specific emerging economy context of China, suggesting further extensions of the research to other contexts, and applying a methodology that reveals causal mechanisms. There has been a financial trend in China's carbon market. However, the legal and policy pathways in China have not specifically focused on carbon finance, which has led to some suspicions about the legitimacy and efficiency of the carbon market. China is following an ambiguous and complicated route in the financial market rules and specialized regime of the carbon market. Meanwhile, the EU has classified carbon emission allowances as financial instruments, and adopted financial market rules for all segments of the carbon market. On the basis of the financial regulation in the EU this paper will try to find an appropriate legal and policy pathway to carbon finance in China. Background: Spontaneous reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADRs) is essential for the post-marketing safety evaluation of drugs. Therefore, good monitoring of ADRs is vital for strengthening drug supervision, management, and guiding rational drug use. Chinese medical institutions are the primary source of ADR case reports, but the proportion of the reports in grade IIIA hospitals is still low due to serious under-reporting. The 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College, Chengdu Pidu District People's Hospital, also has such a problem. Objective: To improve the quantity and quality of ADR reports and enhance the level of pharmacovigilance in hospitals, the Third Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College, People's Hospital of Chengdu Pidu District experienced 10 years to gradually establish a management model to improve the medical staff's reporting rate of spontaneous reporting of ADRs. The management model is led by clinical pharmacists and combines the PDCA with Teach-back methods. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the management model and discuss its advantages and shortcomings of this model. Methods: This study was conducted at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College—Chengdu Pidu District People's Hospital. From 2016, the daily management of reporting, auditing, and data improvement of adverse drug reactions in the hospital was carried out by clinical pharmacists, who used the PDCA method combined with the Teach-back method to continuously improve the reporting program of ADRs in the hospital during 2016–2021. Then, the proportion of spontaneous reports of total, new, and serious ADRs was compared before and after the intervention. Also, we performed a time series analysis using an autoregressive moving average model to assess changes in the total number of spontaneous ADR reports before the intervention (2013–2015), the first intervention (2016–2018), and the second intervention (2019–2021). Results: After the combined PDCA and Teach-back method intervention, the median number of reported ADRs per year increased from 50 (range 37–55) in the pre-intervention period to 88 (range 83–162) in the first intervention period and to 374 in the second (range 312–566). Breakpoint regression analysis of the spontaneous reporting rate of ADRs showed that the instantaneous increase after the first intervention was not statistically significant (P = 0.526). However, the reporting rate of ADRs increased at a month-by-month growth rate during the second intervention compared to the first intervention. Its spontaneous reporting rate improved 1.034 times (P = 0.002). After the second intervention, the spontaneous reporting rate of ADRs transiently increased 6.111-fold (P < 0.001), and the month-to-month growth rate increased 1.024-fold (P < 0.001) again. This study addresses the challenge of deformation and failure on loess slopes, predominantly triggered by rainfall, by evaluating the efficacy of various slope protective measures. Recognizing the escalating preference for ecological protection techniques, this paper focuses on identifying optimal strategies that align with local rainfall patterns. A comprehensive analysis of loess slopes under diverse rainfall conditions was conducted, encompassing scenarios with prime soil, stabilized soil, and no protection. Utilizing the finite element software ABAQUS, a sophisticated rainfall infiltration slope model was developed and validated against experimental data. The investigation reveals that under low rainfall intensities, the choice of protective material—whether stabilized or prime soil—exerts limited influence on slope pore pressure. In contrast, at higher rainfall intensities, the impact of these protective materials on slope stability becomes significantly more pronounced. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Operations on inputs are partially or completely decisive for information aggregation, and parameterized operations are widely used due to their flexibility in practice. The Bonferroni mean is a typical mean operator taking into account interrelationships between any two input variables. In this paper, the Hamacher operations are considered in constructing q-rung orthopair fuzzy aggregation operators combined with the Bonferroni mean. First, explicit expressions of aggregated results by the q-rung orthopair fuzzy Hamacher Bonferroni mean operator are presented without intermediate variables, which would certainly improve the computational efficiency. Then, limits of these resulting aggregations are examined with respect to parameters within Hamacher operations and Bonferroni mean, respectively. The obtained conclusions reveal relations among the current mean operator and some existing ones, and some numerical examples are given to facilitate the conceptual arguments. Finally, the developed operator is employed to evaluate the service quality of passenger airlines in Taiwan, China, and a comparative analysis is presented in this study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Improving the accuracy of the green total factor productivity (GTFP) calculation has certain theoretical and practical value for sustainable development. We use a slack-based directional distance function (DDF) proposed by Färe and Grosskopf (European Journal of Operational Research 200:320-322, Färe and Grosskopf, European Journal of Operational Research 200:320–322, 2010) to combine with Malmquist-Luenberger Productivity Index (MLPI) to re-examine the GTFP. This new GTFP index takes inputs such as energy consumption, labor, and capital stock into account, while considering the comprehensive outputs of real GDP and three types of industrial wastes (gas, solid, water). The proposed slack-based MLPI is applied to access GTFP changes and compare the results under the slack-based DDF measure and original DDF measure over the period 2005–2012. The primary results in this paper present the average growth of GTFP for these 30 Chinese provinces shows a downward trend until 2010 suggesting that most provinces pay less attention on the productivity growth. The downward trend results primarily from no significant improvement in technical change. We also discover that although the distributions of the slack-based measure are roughly similar with that of the original DDF, the decomposed component, efficiency change, shows a significant difference between them. Pushed by structural transformations of geopolitics and world economy, China had to adjust its policy toward the European Union (EU) continuously during the period of 2014–2019, in pace with the dramatic changes in the European political landscape and the European Union's policy orientations. During this process, the role of Chinese foreign policy think tanks has become more prominent and complex. This article conducts a comparative case study of the central-level China Institute of International Studies (CIIS) and the provincial-level Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS), analyzing mechanisms of their influence over China's EU policy. Based on a theoretical paradigm that interprets think tanks as the "central space" in a "field of power," this article establishes an analytical framework regarding the policy influence of CIIS and SIIS as being determined by their differentiated positions within China's foreign policy-making structure. It compares the flows of CIIS and SIIS publications on EU policy issues and the issuing of EU policy documents by the Chinese government, with a particular focus on the economic dimension of the relationship. It reveals patterns of synchronization and succession between think tank advice and official policy endorsements. Also, it analyzes the structural characteristics of meetings on EU policy sponsored by CIIS and SIIS, disclosing their varied connections with central and provincial policymakers, as well as other political actors. Drawing on multi-task principal–agent theories, we aim in this paper to explore a hitherto understudied politics–infrastructure nexus using a data set of Chinese municipal leader profiles. Analysing a panel dataset of 2,399 political leaders’ profiles and infrastructure-investment change across 283 Chinese cities from 2002 to 2016, we demonstrate that city leaders adopt an inverted U-shaped curve regarding infrastructure-investment growth over their tenures. The investment fluctuation strengthens in municipalities with a relatively lower degree of institutional development and in municipalities which have fewer political resources. Furthermore, a higher frequency of political turnover leads to a higher average growth rate of infrastructure investment. This study suggests that fluctuation in infrastructure investment in China is aligned with political incentives, offering new opportunities for comparative studies of global relevance. Background: Many individuals consider nocturia a significant nuisance, leading to a reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). However, there has been a lack of psychometrically sound patient-reported outcome measures to assess the impact of nocturia on patients in Chinese contexts. This study aimed to translate, culturally adapt, and validate the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionnaire Nocturia Quality of Life Module (ICIQ-NQOL) for use among primary care patients in Hong Kong, China. Additionally, it sought to investigate the mechanisms that link nocturia and sleep quality with HRQOL by employing moderated mediation analysis. Methods: The traditional Chinese version of the ICIQ-NQOL was developed through iterative translations, cognitive debriefing interviews, and panel reviews. The psychometric evaluation included assessments of factor structure, convergent validity, concurrent validity, known-group validity, internal consistency, test-retest reliability and responsiveness. Study instruments included the ICIQ-NQOL, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and a modified Incontinence Impact Questionnaire-Short Form (IIQ-7). Results: A total of 419 primary care patients were recruited from general outpatient clinics, among whom 228 experiencing an average of two or more nocturia episodes per night over the past four weeks. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the two-factor structure of the ICIQ-NQOL. Concurrent validity was confirmed by moderate correlations between the IIQ-7 total score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.43 to 0.49, all p < 0.001). The ICIQ-NQOL also had moderate correlations with the IPSS total symptom score (r ranging from 0.40 to 0.48, all p < 0.001). Convergent validity was supported by moderate correlations between the global PSQI score and the total score as well as two domain scores of the ICIQ-NQOL (r ranging from 0.42 to 0.52, all p < 0.001). Known-group comparisons showed that the ICIQ-NQOL could differentiate between patients with and without nocturia in terms of sleep/energy domain score (p < 0.001), bother/concern domain score (p < 0.001), and total score (p < 0.001), each demonstrating a moderate Cohen's d effect size. Item-total correlations corrected for overlap exceeded 0.4, and Cronbach's alpha coefficients were greater than 0.7. Test-retest reliability was confirmed with intraclass correlation coefficients exceeding 0.7 among patients reporting no change in their nocturia symptoms at a 2-week follow-up. Regarding responsiveness, the Cohen's d effect sizes for differences in domain and total scores between the baseline and 2-week follow-up assessments were greater than 0.3 among patients showing improvement in nocturia. Our moderated mediation analysis indicated that sleep quality significantly moderated the impact of nocturia on HRQOL, with a notably stronger indirect effect among females compared to males. Conclusions: The ICIQ-NQOL is a reliable and valid instrument for assessing the HRQOL in primary care patients suffering from nocturia. Veronica anagallis-aquatica L. and Veronica undulata Wall. are widely used ethnomedicinal plants in China. The two species have different clinical efficacies, while their extremely similar morphology and unclear interspecific relationship make it difficult to accurately identify them, leading to increased instances of mixed usage. This article reports on the complete chloroplast genomes sequence of these two species and their related Veronica species to conduct a comparative genomics analysis and phylogenetic construction. The results showed that the chloroplast (cp) genomes of Veronica exhibited typical circular quadripartite structures, with total lengths of 149,386 to 152,319 base pairs (bp), and GC content of 37.9 to 38.1%, and the number of genes was between 129–134. The total number of simple sequence repeats (SSRs) in V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata is 37 and 36, while V. arvensis had the highest total number of 56, predominantly characterized by A/T single bases. The vast majority of long repeat sequence types are forward repeats and palindromic repeats. Selective Ka/Ks values showed that three genes were under positive selection. Sequence differences often occur in the non-coding regions of the large single-copy region (LSC) and small single-copy region (SSC), with the lowest sequence variation in the inverted repeat regions (IR). Seven highly variable regions (trnT-GGU-psbD, rps8-rpl16, trnQ-UUG, trnN-GUU-ndhF, petL, ycf3, and ycf1) were detected, which may be potential molecular markers for identifying V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata. The phylogenetic tree indicates that there is a close genetic relationship between the genera Veronica and Neopicrorhiza, and V. anagallis-aquatica and V. undulata are sister groups. The molecular clock analysis results indicate that the divergence time of Veronica may occur at ∼ 9.09 Ma, and the divergence time of these two species occurs at ∼ 0.48 Ma. It is speculated that climate change may be the cause of Veronica species diversity and promote the radiation of the genus. The chloroplast genome data of nine Veronica specie provides important insights into the characteristics and evolution of the chloroplast genome of this genus, as well as the phylogenetic relationships of the genus Veronica. Improving and optimizing the policy system of combined medical and nursing care (CMNC) is an important driving force in the development of China's pension industry. Using a latent Dirichlet allocation–policy modeling consistency model, this study analyzes 25 key policies related to CMNC to develop a policy evaluation index system and evaluates the CMNC policies of four provinces in China: Shandong, Sichuan, Jiangsu, and Hubei. It highlights issues facing China's CMNC policy, including the poor use of policy tools, insufficient publicity, lack of insurance protection for employees, and lack of local policies' pertinence. In recent years, there has been an increasing focus on women's science fiction in China. A prevailing perception among readers and critics suggests that women's sensibilities enable them to convey more nuanced emotions in their works. To examine this viewpoint within the realm of contemporary Chinese science fiction, a quantitative approach based on affective computing was employed. As China and the United States strive to be the primary global leader in AI, their visions are coming into conflict. This is frequently painted as a fundamental clash of civilisations, with evidence based primarily around each country's current political system and present geopolitical tensions. However, such a narrow view claims to extrapolate into the future from an analysis of a momentary situation, ignoring a wealth of historical factors that influence each country's prevailing philosophy of technology and thus their overarching AI strategies. In this article, we build a philosophy-of-technology-grounded framework to analyse what differences in Chinese and American AI policies exist and, on a fundamental level, why they exist. We support this with Natural Language Processing methods to provide an evidentiary basis for our analysis of policy differences. By looking at documents from three different American presidential administrations––Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden––as well as both national and local policy documents (many available only in Chinese) from China, we provide a thorough comparative analysis of policy differences. This article fills a gap in US–China AI policy comparison and constructs a framework for understanding the origin and trajectory of policy differences. By investigating what factors are informing each country's philosophy of technology and thus their overall approach to AI policy, we argue that while significant obstacles to cooperation remain, there is room for dialogue and mutual growth. The sterility advantages of triploids make them paramount for oyster aquaculture. Tetraploids are always used as male parents for triploid industrial breeding in current hatcheries, thus they are the core asset for triploid oyster culture. The oyster Crassostrea angulata is the most productive oyster species in China. However, the optimal conditions for tetraploid induction have never been examined. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of three induction methods (Method I, 2n ♀ × 2n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as DD + ind; Method II, 3n ♀ × 2n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as TrD + ind; Method III, 2n ♀ × 4n ♂ + inducer abbreviated as DT + ind) and three inducers (salinity; cytochalasin B, CB; and 6-dimethylaminopurine, 6-DMAP) for tetraploid induction in C. angulata. The optimal induction conditions for the three induction methods were a CB concentration of 0.5 mg/L treated for 20 min, 0.75 mg/L CB for a constant induction treatment of 20 min and 6-DMAP at a concentration of 100 mg/L for 20 min, respectively. When the optimal induction conditions were applied to a single pair of oysters, the D-larval tetraploid rate for the three methods were 18.93 ± 1.46%, 58.32 ± 1.03% and 51.61 ± 1.37%, respectively. After 30 days, the survival rates of the experimental groups were only 10.36 ± 2.51%, 28.07 ± 2.03% and 21.99 ± 1.27%, respectively, at day 30. The tetraploid rates in DD + ind and DT + ind were both decreased significantly over time, but they still reached 11.81% and 21.99% at 30 days, and 8% and 16% at day 180, respectively. Tetraploid rates in TrD + ind were 58.32 − 71.28% at the larval stage and 80% at day 180. In summary, despite very different induction rates, surviving tetraploids of C. angulata could be obtained in all three methods. Method II (TrD + inducer) was regarded as the optimal method to induce C. angulata tetraploids, and the optimal induction condition was a CB concentration of 0.75 mg/L and treated for 20 min under this method. Objectives: This study aimed to identify the 100 most-cited and 100 most-mentioned coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19)–related radiological articles and compare their characteristics. Materials and methods: We searched the Web of Science and Altmetric.com using the search terms "COVID," "COVID-19," "Coronavirus," "SARS-CoV-2," "nCoV," and "pandemic" to identify the most-cited and most-mentioned COVID-19-related articles. We identified the top 100 most-cited and 100 most-mentioned articles in the field of radiology, regardless of their publication journal. We extracted the information from the listed articles and compared the characteristics between the most-cited and most-mentioned. Results: Thirty (30%) articles were featured in the lists of the most-cited and most-mentioned articles. The comparison of the 100 most-cited and most-mentioned articles on each list showed that the most frequently cited articles were published in November 2020 and before (p <.001), originated from China (p <.001), covered the topic of diagnosis of COVID-19 (p <.001), and were related to the subspecialty of pulmonary imaging (p <.001); the most frequently mentioned articles were published in December 2020 and after (p <.001), originated from the USA (p <.001), covered the topic of diagnosis of sequelae of COVID-19 (p =.013) and post-vaccination complications (p <.001), and were related to the subspecialties of cardiac imaging (p <.001) and neuroradiology (p <.013). Conclusion: Significant differences were observed in publication date, country of origin, topic, and subspecialty of scientific knowledge related to COVID-19 in the field of radiology, between citation and public dissemination. COVID-19, reduced funding and a shortage of healthcare workers has led to growing international concern about patient violence towards medical staff in medical settings. As the number of reported physical and verbal assaults increases, many medical staff are considering leaving their positions due to the resulting impact on their mental and physical wellbeing, creating a critical need to understand the causes for violence towards medical staff working on the front line. This study aims to examine the causes for patient violence towards medical staff in China during the COVID-19 pandemic. A case library was created containing twenty reported incidents of patient violence towards medical staff during the pandemic in China. Based on the Triadic Reciprocal Determinism (TRD) theory, we identify the personal, environmental, and behavioral factors, that cause incidents of violence towards medical staff. The outcome was set as 'Medical Staff Casualties', referring to whether, due to the violence experienced, the medical staff member was injured or died, or only experienced threatening or insulting behavior. Data was analyzed using Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) to clarify the relationship between the different conditions and their relationship with the outcome. The study's results reveal that Relationship Closeness is a necessary condition for patient violence in the presence of outcome. Secondly, four distinct types of causes for patient violence towards medical staff were identified: Strong Relationship Oriented Violence, Healthcare Resources and Services Mismatched Violence, Violence caused by Ineffective Patient-Physician Communication, and Ineffective Communication Superimposed Low Patient Compliance Violence. Scientific guidance is provided for the creation of measures to prevent future violence towards medical staff from occurring. Strict precautions should be taken for preventing violence to protect a healthy society and harmonious medical environment, emphasizing the need for joint governance of multiple participants. The orchid family has 200,000 species and 700 genera, and it is found worldwide in the tropics and subtropics. In China, there are 1247 species and subspecies of orchids belonging to the Orchidaceae family. Orchidaceae is one of the most diverse plant families in the world, known for their lush look, remarkable ecological tolerance, and capability for reproduction. It has significant decorative and therapeutic value. In terms of evolution, the orchid family is one of the more complicated groups, but up until now, little has been known about its affinities. This study examined the properties of 19 chloroplast (cp) genomes, of which 11 had previously been published and nine had only recently been revealed. Following that, topics such as analysis of selection pressure, codon usage, amino acid frequencies, repeated sequences, and reverse repeat contraction and expansion are covered. The Orchidaceae share similar cp chromosomal characteristics, and we have conducted a preliminary analysis of their evolutionary connections. The cp genome of this family has a typical tepartite structure and a high degree of consistency across species. Platanthera urceolata with more tandem repeats of the cp genome. Similar cp chromosomal traits can be seen in the orchidaceae. Objective: To analyze the differences in the needs of users and the value orientation of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) by comparing the contents and formation methods of clinical questions in Chinese and Korean CPGs of acupuncture-moxibustion (Acup-Mox). Methods: The full text of CPGs was systematically searched from the official websites of Chinese and Korean traditional medicine societies and Acup-Mox associations, with the topic "Acup-Mox for treating diseases" and the retrieval time up to September 28, 2022. Two researchers screened the CPGs independently, and extracted the guidelines' topics, content, quantity and formation methods of clinical questions. The quantitative data were collected by counting the frequency, and the qualitative data were classified and described by thematic analysis. Results: A total of 29 guidelines were included in this study, including 20 Chinese guidelines (305 questions) and 9 Korean guidelines (223 questions). The differences lie in the aspects of content and diversity, and formation method. As for content and diversity, Chinese guidelines focused mainly on the questions related to treatment such as the operation of specific intervention (86, 28.2%), efficacy of intervention (78, 25.6%), and also involving questions in diagnosis, prevention, and prognosis. While the clinical questions in Korean guidelines were concentrated to efficacy of intervention (218, 97.8%). As for formation method, in Chinese guidelines, questions were usually collected directly from clinicians, and then determined and optimized by experts. In Korean guidelines, frequently used clinical Acup-Mox interventions would be screened first. Then the expert group would set up corresponding intervention control measures so as to form clinical questions related to treatment efficacy. Conclusions: The differences reflect the different needs of clinical practitioners, and the different aims or concepts in developing Acup-Mox guidelines between China and South Korea. Chinese guidelines emphasized promoting operation protocols and techniques of Acup-Mox for practical use, while Korean guidelines emphasized promoting the frequently used clinical intervention therapies. It is speculated that the guidelines from these two countries would play different roles in guiding clinical operation and supporting medical decision. In terms of formation methods of clinical questions, it is suggested to attach importance to optimizing process in formatting clinical questions to improve the clinical applicability of CPGs of Acup-Mox. Although parental academic socialization may be a product of culture, ethnic/racial minority status may play a significant role, above and beyond the impact of culture, in shaping parental academic socialization and its implications for youth adjustments. This study examined Korean youth living in South Korea (N = 524, Mage = 14.98, SD = 1.45, 50.1% female), China (N = 267, Mage = 15.24, SD = 1.66, 58.9% female), and the U.S. (N = 408, Mage = 14.76, SD = 1.91, 47.3% female) who share the same heritage culture but have different social positions (majority or minority). Korean youth as an ethnic/racial minority in the U.S. or China reported higher parental academic socialization than those in South Korea, supporting a significant role of social positions in how parents practice academic socialization. This study also found that the distinct practices of academic socialization function differently in youth adjustment. Parental commitment to education, parental involvement, and autonomy support were positively associated with youth's school engagement, but achievement-oriented psychological control was associated with more depressive symptoms and antisocial behaviors. These associations did not differ across the three samples. Some nuanced differences also emerged. Parental commitment to education was associated with higher grades in Korean Chinese (but not Korean American) youth, and achievement-oriented psychological control was associated with lower school engagement among Korean Chinese (but not South Korean) youth and higher grades among South Korean (but not Korean American) youth. These findings highlight the role of academic socialization as an adaptive strategy for ethnic/racial minorities to succeed in host societies and the generally universal role of parental academic socialization in youth adjustments. Purpose: We aimed to explore the contribution of genotype-guided selection of P2Y12 inhibitors on prognosis in Chinese patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) or chronic coronary syndromes (CCS) undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Methods: Totally, 2063 patients were included. They were divided into empiric treatment group (n = 1025) and individualized treatment group (n = 1038) depending on whether taken CYP2C19 genetic testing. The incidences of clinical endpoint events were compared in two groups at 1-year follow-up. The effective endpoint events were major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs), including all-cause mortality, in-stent restenosis, nonfatal myocardial infarction, nonfatal stroke and severe recurrent ischemia. Meanwhile, the safe endpoint was bleeding events defined by the Bleeding Academic Research Consortium (BARC) criteria. Results: Finally, 66.83% patients were diagnosed with ACS and 33.17% patients were diagnosed with CCS in empiric group. 68.11% patients were diagnosed with ACS and 31.89% patients were diagnosed with CCS in individualized group. At 1-year follow-up, individualized group showed lower MACEs rate than empiric group (19.61% vs. 10.69%, HR: 1.915; 95% CI: 1.534 to 2.392; P < 0.0001, log-rank test; adjusted HR: 1.983; 95% CI: 1.573 to 2.501; P = 0.000, cox proportional hazards regression models), while bleeding events were significantly less common in empiric group than in individualized group (7.32% vs. 10.40%, HR: 0.693; 95% CI: 0.519 to 0.926; P = 0.0132, log-rank test; adjusted HR: 0.695; 95% CI: 0.518 to 0.933; P = 0.016, cox proportional hazards regression models). It was mainly manifested in BARC class 1 bleeding, which did not warrant the interruption of antiplatelet therapy (ITA). Further, subgroup analyses illustrated that no significant difference existed in cumulative MACEs-free survival rate between all treatment arms of individualized group (P = 0.6579 by log-rank test), and CYP2C19 intermediate metabolizer (IM) genetype appeared to be significantly associated with bleeding events for patients treated with ticagrelor (clopidogrel vs. ticagrelor: 6.80% vs. 14.88%; adjusted HR:0.440; 95% CI: 0.246 to 0.787; adjusted P = 0.006). Conclusions: Genotype-guided selection of P2Y12 inhibitor made a very positive contribution on the prognosis in Chinese ACS/CCS patients undergoing PCI. Instead of intensifying antiplatelet strategies, conventional-dose clopidogrel could be recommended as P2Y12 inhibitor after weighing MACEs and bleeding events in CYP2C19 IM patients. To examine the possible reciprocal associations between supportive parenting and children's social skills, the present study tested three cross-lagged models in 305 Chinese preschool children: the parent-driven model, the child-driven model, and the reciprocal model. Mothers reported on their supportive parenting and rated children's social skills at three time points, once in each year of preschool (ages 4, 5, and 6). The results indicated that the reciprocal model fit the best to explain the association between supportive parenting and children's social skills. In the reciprocal relationship between supportive parenting and children's social skills, the parent-driven effect was significantly stronger than the child-driven effect among children aged 4 to 5, but the child-driven effect was significantly stronger than the parent-driven effect for children aged 5 to 6. The findings contribute to our understanding of dynamic associations between supportive parenting and children's social skills in the Chinese context. Implications for educational practices are discussed. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to predict the probability of postoperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with hip fractures by developing and validating a precise model. Methods: The clinical data of 1008 elderly hip fracture patients undergoing surgical treatment in Shanghai Tenth Peoples' Hospital were retrospectively selected. A univariate analysis and multivariate regression were used to analyze the independent risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients with hip fractures. A risk prediction model was established, and a nomogram was drawn. The area under the ROC curve and Hosmer‒Lemeshow test were used to evaluate the predictive effect of the model. Results: The multivariate regression analysis indicated that age > 73, time from fracture to surgery (d) > 4 days, smoking, ASA ≥ III level, COPD, hypoproteinemia, red cell distribution width > 14.8%, mechanical ventilation time > 180 min, and stay in the ICU were independent risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infection in elderly patients. The AUCs of the model were 0.891 and 0.881, 0.843, respectively, in the two verification groups. For the Hosmer‒Lemeshow test, the P values were 0.726 in the modeling group and 0.497 and 0.231 in the verification group (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, this study uncovered different independent risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infection in patients with hip fractures. Background: This study aimed to compare the prevalence of sarcopenia according to the old and new Asian Working Group on Sarcopenia (AWGS) operational criteria and explore the effects of sarcopenia on adverse outcomes in older adults with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods: A total of 386 patients with T2D aged ≥ 60 years were recruited in retrospective cohort study. Sarcopenia was assessed with different versions of the AWGS consensus, including the AWGS2014, AWGS2019H (muscle mass adjusted for height), and AWGS2019B (muscle mass adjusted for body mass index). The median follow-up period was 47 months. The composite primary endpoint was the first occurrence of cardiovascular disease (CVD), fragility fracture, and all-cause mortality and the secondary outcomes included the three separate components of the primary outcome. Results: In this study, the prevalence of sarcopenia under different criteria was significantly different, with AWGS2019H having the highest prevalence of 31.3%. The agreement among sarcopenia criteria was unsatisfactory. By Cox regression analysis, all three AWGS definitions of sarcopenia were associated with the composite outcome of all-cause mortality, fracture and CVD (hazard ratio [HR], 2.69 vs. HR, 2.63; vs. HR, 2.23; model 3). Further exploratory analysis, sarcopenia defined by the AWGS2019H criteria was an independent risk factor for death, incident CVD, and fractures. While AWGS2014 criteria was an increased risk factor of death and CVD. The AWGS2019B criteria were only associated with incident fractures. Conclusion: All three AWGS definitions of sarcopenia were associated the composite primary endpoint. Background: Trauma patients are at high risk of Venous thromboembolism (VTE), but compared to well-established deep venous thrombosis (DVT), data specifically evaluating post-traumatic pulmonary embolism (PE) are scarce. The aim of this study is to assess whether PE represents a distinct clinical entity with injury pattern, risk factors, and prophylaxis strategy different from DVT, among severe poly-trauma patients. Patients and methods: We retrospectively enrolled patients admitted to our level I trauma center from January 2011 to December 2021 who were diagnosed with severe multiple traumatic injuries and identified thromboembolic events among them. We regarded four groups as None (without thromboembolic events), DVT only, PE only, and PE with DVT. Demographics, injury characteristics, clinical outcomes, and treatments were collected and analyzed in individual groups. Patients were also classified according to the occurring time of PE, and indicative symptoms and radiological findings were compared between early PE (≤ 3 days) and late PE (> 3 days). Logistic regression analyses were conducted to explore independent risk factors for different VTE patterns. Results: Among 3498 selected severe multiple traumatic patients, there were 398 episodes of DVT only, 19 of PE only, and 63 of PE with DVT. Injury variables associated with PE only included shock on admission and severe chest trauma. Severe pelvic fracture and mechanical ventilator days (MVD) ≥ 3 were the independent risk factors for PE with DVT. There were no significant differences in the indicative symptoms and location of pulmonary thrombi between the early and late PE groups. Obesity and severe lower extremity injury might have an impact on the incidence of early PE, while patients with a severe head injury and higher ISS are particularly at risk for developing late PE. Conclusion: Occurring early, lacking association with DVT, and possessing distinct risk factors warrant PE in severe poly-trauma patients special attention, especially for its prophylaxis strategy. Summary: Primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy (PHO) is a hereditary bone disease that is grouped into PHO autosomal recessive 1 (PHOAR1) and PHO autosomal recessive 2 (PHOAR2) due to different causative genes. Data comparing bone microstructure between the two subtypes are scarce. This is the first study to find that PHOAR1 patients had inferior bone microstructure compared with PHOAR2 patients. Purpose: The primary goal of this study was to assess bone microarchitecture and strength in PHOAR1 and PHOAR2 patients and to compare them with age- and sex-matched healthy controls (HCs). The secondary goal was to assess the differences between PHOAR1 and PHOAR2 patients. Methods: Twenty-seven male Chinese PHO patients (PHOAR1 = 7; PHOAR2 = 20) were recruited from Peking Union Medical College Hospital. The areal bone mineral density (aBMD) was assessed by dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). Peripheral bone microarchitecture at the distal radius and tibia were evaluated by high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT). Biochemical markers of PGE2, bone turnover, and Dickkopf-1 (DKK1) were investigated. Results: Compared with HCs, PHOAR1 and PHOAR2 patients had distinctively larger bone geometry, substantially lower vBMD at the radius and tibia, and compromised cortical microstructure at the radius. For trabecular bone, PHOAR1 and PHOAR2 patients showed different changes at the tibia. PHOAR1 patients had significant deficits in the trabecular compartment, resulting in lower estimated bone strength. Conversely, PHOAR2 patients showed a higher trabecular number, narrower trabecular separation, and lower trabecular network inhomogeneity than HCs, translating into preserved or slightly high estimated bone strength. Conclusion: PHOAR1 patients had inferior bone microstructure and strength compared with PHOAR2 patients and HCs. High-story residential structures and off-site prefabrication have been dominant choices in the construction industry. There is a substantial quantity of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced by the construction industry. In fact, the construction industry is responsible for 30 percent of all GHG emissions. In this study, we analyse the differences between the conventional technique of building and the off-site prefabricating construction method. First, we evaluate the emissions emitted from key processes during the off-site prefabricating construction. In addition, we analyse the qualitative and quantitative differences between two prefabrication structural systems, namely concrete and steel, which are the two most common structural systems utilised in residential construction projects in China. Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has rapidly spread throughout the world; however, it is difficult for clinicians to make early diagnoses. This study is to evaluate the feasibility of using deep learning (DL) models to identify asymptomatic COVID-19 patients based on chest CT images. In this retrospective study, six DL models (Xception, NASNet, ResNet, EfficientNet, ViT, and Swin), based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or transformer architectures, were trained to identify asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 on chest CT images. Data from Yangzhou were randomly split into a training set (n = 2140) and an internal-validation set (n = 360). Data from Suzhou was the external-test set (n = 200). Model performance was assessed by the metrics accuracy, recall, and specificity and was compared with the assessments of two radiologists. A total of 2700 chest CT images were collected in this study. In the validation dataset, the Swin model achieved the highest accuracy of 0.994, followed by the EfficientNet model (0.954). The recall and the precision of the Swin model were 0.989 and 1.000, respectively. In the test dataset, the Swin model was still the best and achieved the highest accuracy (0.980). All the DL models performed remarkably better than the two experts. Last, the time on the test set diagnosis spent by two experts—42 min, 17 s (junior); and 29 min, 43 s (senior)—was significantly higher than those of the DL models (all below 2 min). This study evaluated the feasibility of multiple DL models in distinguishing asymptomatic patients with COVID-19 from healthy subjects on chest CT images. Purpose: To test the hypothesis that daily supplementation with low-dose B vitamins plus betaine could significantly reduce plasma homocysteine concentrations in Chinese adults with hyperhomocysteinemia and free from background mandatory folic acid fortification. Methods: One hundred apparently healthy adults aged 18–65 years with hyperhomocysteinemia were recruited in South China from July 2019 to June 2021. They were randomly assigned to either the supplement group (daily supplementation: 400 μg folic acid, 8 mg vitamin B6, 6.4 μg vitamin B12 and 1 g betaine) or the placebo group for 12 weeks. Fasting venous blood was collected at baseline, week 4 and week 12 to determine the concentrations of homocysteine, folate, vitamin B12 and betaine. Generalized estimation equations were used for statistical analysis. Results: Statistically significant increments in blood concentrations of folate, vitamin B12 and betaine after the intervention in the supplement group indicated good participant compliance. At baseline, there were no significant differences in plasma homocysteine concentration between the two groups (P = 0.265). After 12-week supplementation, compared with the placebo group, there was a significant reduction in plasma homocysteine concentrations in the supplement group (mean group difference − 3.87; covariate-adjusted P = 0.012; reduction rate 10.1%; covariate-adjusted P < 0.001). In the supplement group, the decreased concentration of plasma homocysteine was associated with increments of blood concentrations of both folate (β = –1.680, P = 0.004) and betaine (β = –1.421, P = 0.020) after 12 weeks of supplementation. Conclusions: Daily supplementation with low-dose B vitamins plus betaine for 12 weeks effectively decreased plasma homocysteine concentrations in Chinese adults with hyperhomocysteinemia. Background: Although studies have identified a high prevalence of migraine among employees in the banking sector, the symptoms of migraine, related disability and occupational risk factors are not well understood. Aims: To determine migraine prevalence, symptoms and disability among bank employees in Guizhou province in China and to examine occupational risk factors associated with migraine positivity and symptoms. Methods: In a cross-sectional survey, two-stage probability sampling was used to select bank employees in Guizhou province, China. From May to October 2022, uniformly trained interviewers conducted face-to-face interviews using the HARDSHIP questionnaire. Logistic regression was used to examine factors associated with migraine positivity and symptoms. Results: Of 1,985 contactable eligible subjects, 1,929 (male 45.4%, female 54.6%) completed the survey. The one-year prevalence of migraine was 27.2% (95% CI 25.2–29.2%). Of migraine-positive individuals, 11.2% had a monthly frequency ≥ 15 days, 11.8% had an attack duration > 72 h, and 14.9% had severe pain intensity. The median of days lost from work, housework and social activities due to migraine during a three-month period was 4, 3 and 2 days, respectively, with more than half (52.8%) patients reporting Grade III or IV disability. In multivariable analyses, positions in data analysis (OR = 1.8 [95% CI 1.2–2.8], p < 0.01) and information technology (OR = 3.8 [95% CI 1.7–8.3], p < 0.01) were occupational risk factors for migraine positivity. It was also found that professional positions were predictive of migraine attacks ≥ 15 days per month, administrative positions were predictive of duration > 72 h and severe pain intensity of migraine attacks, and working in remote branches was predictive of duration > 72 h. Conclusions: Migraine is prevalent among employees in the banking sector in Guizhou province in China, with a large proportion of sufferers carrying a high burden of symptoms and disability. The practical implication of this study is that the risk factors identified here could be translated to the focus of workplace monitoring and interventions to manage and prevent migraine. As a model of the combination of nostalgia and creative products, ethnic cultural heritage carry the function of shaping and spreading geo-culture. Its unique geo-cultural context, as a link, shows the historical inheritance of local culture. The deep deconstruction of its emotional identity helps to strengthen this identity and stimulate more cultural and creative designs with national and local characteristics. While culture prospers, the local cultural and creative economy is strengthened and cultural confidence and national self-confidence are further enhanced. Based on the New Year paintings of Wuqiang in Hebei, which have a strong folk vernacular and geo-cultural character in northern China, in the process of using the reconstructed pattern elements for clothing design, 156 questionnaires were collected through questionnaire interviews and fsQCA was used to analyze the emotional identity of products with high geo-cultural recognition. The study finds that while the injection of regional culture plays a role in the development of products, people's emotional identification with vernacular cultural and creative products actually depends on a combination of causal paths, with beauty and elegance more important than place and humanity as commonly believed to reflect geographic cultural identity. fsQCA was used to analyze the emotional identity of products with high geo-cultural recognition. Previous research has suggested that culture influences perception and attention. These studies have typically involved comparisons of Westerners with East Asians, motivated by assumed differences in the cultures' self-concept or position on the individualism-collectivism spectrum. However, other potentially important sources of cultural variance have been neglected, such as differences in traffic directionality shaped by the urban spatial environment (i.e., left-hand vs. right-hand traffic). Thus, existing research may potentially place too much emphasis on self-concepts or the individualism-collectivism dimension in explaining observed cultural differences in cognition. The present study investigated spatial cognition using a Simon task and tested participants from four nations (Australia, China, Germany, and Malaysia) that differ in both cultural orientation (collectivistic vs. individualistic) and traffic directionality (left-hand vs. right-hand traffic). The task used two possible reference frames underlying the Simon effect: a body-centered one based on global stimulus position relative to the screen's center versus an object-centered one based on local stimulus position relative to a context object. As expected, all groups showed a reliable Simon effect for both spatial reference frames. However, the global Simon effect was larger in participants from countries with left-hand traffic. In contrast, the local Simon effect was modulated by differences in cultural orientation, with larger effects in participants from collectivistic cultures. This pattern suggests that both sources of cultural variation, viz. cultural orientation and traffic directionality, contribute to differences in spatial cognition in distinct ways. Collective future thinking, namely the anticipation of events for a group, is a relatively new research area in memory studies. Research to date with predominantly Western populations suggests that people tend to expect negative events for their country's future. In two studies, we investigated the emotional valence and perceived control of anticipated future events of one's country and examined the roles of country identification and national well-being in collective future thinking. US and Chinese college students (Study 1) and US, Chinese, and Turkish adults of a community sample (Study 2) imagined events that could happen to their respective countries in 1 week, 1 year, and 10–15 years. Participants rated each event on emotional valence and perceived control. They also completed measures for their country identification and perceived national well-being. Chinese participants imagined future events for their country to be more positive than did the US and Turkish participants, whereas US participants reported higher perceived control by their country for the future events than did Chinese and Turks. Country identification and national well-being predicted more positive future thinking and also mediated cultural differences in future-event valence and perceived country control. People intuitively view some social groups (such as Black people, Muslims, and women) as having biological underpinnings and discrete boundaries. Essentialist beliefs about social groups shape how people view themselves and others, leading to a number of negative social consequences. Whereas previous research has demonstrated variations in social essentialism within some Western societies, less is known about how social essentialism manifests in East Asian cultures that have well-documented differences in social values and cognitive styles from Western cultures. The current research investigated cultural variations in social essentialist thinking in the United States and China to reveal how cultural ideologies and social belief systems shape people's basic representations of the social world. Analyses revealed several cultural and social correlates of social essentialism both between and within the cultures and demonstrated the mediating role of collectivistic values in predicting cultural differences in essentialist beliefs about group coherence. China has embarked on society-wide emission reduction initiatives to tackle the growing decarbonization pressures on national economic and social development. The low-carbon consumption pattern transition of the residential sector is viewed as a crucial impetus that will drive society toward sustainable development. However, how such a consumption transition can be facilitated remains unclear. By adopting 2015–2019 provincial panel data, this study assesses the carbon emissions associated with the consumption patterns of residents in Eastern China and further explores the causal relationships between policy and socioeconomic factors as well as the formation of a low-carbon consumption base using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis method (fsQCA). This study explores five equivalent recipes that achieve the expected low-carbon consumption base and then classifies them into market-driven (M1) and tertiary-driven (M2) recipes. Longitudinal analysis based on the between consistency (BECONS) and the within consistency (WICONS) values reveals that the tertiary-driven pathways remain highly stable across time, whereas those pathways that heavily rely on market interventions may be more applicable in certain cases. Accelerating the low-carbon consumption transition via the explored pathways is expected to exert pressure on the production transition, and this study provides suggestions for regions with varied development levels to balance the trade-off between China's social development and its decarbonization targets. This study examines the effects of China's cross-border e-commerce (CBEC) on its goods and services exports to 'Belt and Road' (B&R) countries for the period 2000–2018 using a gravity model. We find that CBEC has a greater positive impact on trade in services than on trade in goods, especially after the implementation of the B&R initiative. Furthermore, as the level of CBEC rises, distance tends to have a lower (higher) impact on services (goods) trade, whereas the impact on services (goods) trade increased (decreased) annually. Purpose: Prenatal exposure to famine has been linked to increased diabetes risk in adulthood. However, one fundamental issue to be addressed is that the reported famine-diabetes relation may be confounded by the age differences between the exposed and non-exposed groups. We aimed to determine the association between prenatal exposure to the Chinese famine of 1959–1962 and risk of diabetes by applying age well-controlled strategies. Methods: Among 20,535 individuals born in 1955–1966 who participated in the China Health and Nutrition Survey from 1997 to 2015, we constructed age-matched exposed vs. non-exposed groups to investigate the role of prenatal exposure to the Chinese famine of 1959–1962 in relation to diabetes. We also built a hierarchical age-period-cohort (HAPC) model to specifically examine the relation of famine to diabetes risk independent of age. Results: Compared to the age-balanced men in the non-exposed group, the exposed men born in 1961 had a 154% increased risk of diabetes [odds ratio (OR) 2.54 (95% CI 1.07–6.03), P = 0.04). In the HAPC analysis, the predicted probabilities of diabetes peaked in the 1961-birth cohort of men [3.4% (95% CI 2.4%–5.0%)], as compared to the average probability of diabetes (reference) of 1.8% for men overall. Neither analytical strategy revealed any strong relation between famine exposure and diabetes risk in women. Conclusion: Among the pre-defined Chinese famine period of 1959–1962, early-life exposure to famine was associated with increased diabetes risk in men but not in women, and these relations were independent of age. Massive rockslides are recognized as one of the most catastrophic hazards due to their rapid sliding velocity and high destructiveness. This study focuses on the progressive failure analysis of translational rockslides (PFTRs) on a cataclinal dip slope, whose shear failure develops mainly along the bedding plane of the underlying strata from the head to the toe of the rockslide. A force and energy equilibrium-based analytical method (FEE) is proposed, combining shear failure propagation and strength degradation, to analyse the stability based on static equilibrium and displacement based on energy equilibrium. A representative translational rockslide, the Shanshucao landslide in the Three Gorges Reservoir, China, is used as a case study. The results of the FEE are validated by comparison with the revised rigid limit equilibrium method (RLEM) and numerical simulation (NS). According to the RLEM and NS, when the shear failure of the slide surface develops to a position with a horizontal distance of approximately 225 m, the rockslide steps into the critical state from partial progressive deformation to failure of the entire rockslide. The FEE obtains a similar result, and the corresponding horizontal distance is 200 m. The rockslide displacement calculated by the FEE agrees well with the results of the NS. Before the critical state, the rockslide displacement is less than 0.05 m; afterwards, the displacement of the entire rockslide obviously increases. In addition, it is proven that the hydrostatic pressure in subvertical tension cracks and the post-failure shear surfaces are the primary impetus for accelerated deformation of rockslides and further development of failure surfaces. The validated results indicate that the FEE is a straightforward and effective method to analyse both the stability and displacement of PFTR, which is significant for rockslide early warning and risk mitigation. In addition, the FEE still has limitations with regard to generalization of the landslide geo-mechanical model and the method validation with observational data of historical events. Environmental problems are endowed with the causal complexity of multiple factors. Traditional quantitative research on the influencing mechanism of environmental pollution has tended to focus on the marginal effects of specific influencing factors but generally neglected the multiple interaction effects between factors (especially three or more). Based on the panel data of 30 Chinese provinces between 2011 and 2020, this study employs fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) — which can provide a fine-grained insight into the causal complexity of environmental issues — to shed light on the influencing mechanism of environmental pollution. The results show that there are several different configurations of pollution drivers which lead to high pollution or low pollution in provinces, confirming the multiple causality, causal asymmetry, and equifinality of environmental pollution. Furthermore, the combination effect of advanced industrial structure, small population size, and technological advance is significant in achieving a state of green environment compared to environmental regulation factors. In addition, spatiotemporal analysis of the configurations indicates that strong path dependencies and spatial agglomeration exist in current local environmental governance patterns. Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) is a legume crop important for global food security due to supplying high-quality vegetable protein and oil. China is the origin and rich center of soybean genetic diversity represented by numerous landraces and other genetic resources. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, world-wide dissemination of plant introductions laid the foundation of modern soybean production. Due to selection for regional adaptation, present-day elite soybean cultivars do have a comparatively narrow genetic base. However, as genetic variation is the major component of future breeding progress, diversity of early maturity Chinese and European elite soybeans was comparatively analyzed using a high-throughput functional SNP array and an SSR marker set. Results revealed a clear differentiation between Chinese and European elite cultivars, and the level of genetic diversity was similar between the two populations. Both in Chinese and European cultivars, unique SSR alleles were found which indicates that selection for specific adaptation can preserve genetic variation. The European population was markedly structured by maturity groups which was less clear in the Chinese population. Structure analysis indicated that European cultivars are based on two major ancestral lines, whereas Chinese elite soybean cultivars trace back to more ancestral lines pointing to the rich natural soybean diversity of China. The results confirm that long-term selection under divergent environmental and agronomic conditions can produce specific diversity which could potentially be utilized for future enhancing both Chinese and European soybean breeding. Facing the increasing gap in economic development between the North and South in China, the urgent problem is whether social and environmental development disparity will increase and thus give rise to unsustainable development in the underdeveloped north. To answer this question, this study dealt with the concept of sustainable development, considering its three dimensions: economy, society and environment and focused on the Yellow River Economic Belt (YREB) in North China and the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YZREB) in South China. The spatial–temporal differences in sustainable development between the two economic belts from 2003 to 2016 were analyzed by using the entropy weight TOPSIS method and spatial autocorrelation. We found that economic recession did not lead to the degradation of sustainable development in the North, where high social progress level made up for the lack of economic development. The economic development level of YZREB was always higher than that of YREB, and the gap between the two increased exponentially. Although the social progress level in YREB was higher than that in YZREB, the gap between the two increased first and then decreased. Although the existing literature has evaluated the energy rebound effect (ERE) from various aspects, the estimates of different types of ERE obtained by different methods still deserve further discussion. For this reason, by analyzing the pros and cons of assessment methods, this study offers a comparison between the direct and economy-wide EREs based on China's transportation sector during the period of 2003–2019. Specifically, on the basis of the translog cost function, we use the dynamic ordinary least square (DOLS) method with seemingly unrelated regression (SUR) to evaluate the sectoral direct ERE. Considering that the direct ERE estimation is limited by its strict assumptions, this article further assesses the sectoral ERE from a macro perspective. By constructing the dynamic two-stage panel function, the generalized method of moments (GMM) was adopted to estimate the sectoral economy-wide ERE. The empirical results demonstrate that first, capital and labor relative to energy are Morishima substitutes; second, the sectoral short-term economy-wide ERE in China was 71.60%, while the long-term economy-wide ERE was 32.00% during the study period; third, there are significant regional differences in the EREs of Chinese transportation industry both for the short and long term, and the east China demonstrated the highest sectoral economy-wide ERE.
