Background: The purpose of this paper is to provide a preliminary evaluation of treatment outcomes, retention and client satisfaction following a 12-week combined cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and motivational enhancement therapy (MET) group treatment for cannabis use disorder (CUD) delivered in an outpatient setting. Implementation of the program is also described. Methods: A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted using data collected from medical records and self-report assessments. Participants were treatment-seeking cannabis users at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, Toronto. Cannabis use, cannabis-related problems, craving, withdrawal symptoms, self-efficacy for remaining abstinent, depression and anxiety were assessed pre- and post-treatment. Treatment retention was calculated by inspecting clinic attendance records, and client satisfaction was evaluated using an anonymous feedback survey. Potential predictors of treatment outcomes and retention were investigated in exploratory analyses. Results: Cannabis use was lower and days of abstinence higher post-treatment (vs pre-treatment). Post-treatment improvements in cannabis-related problems, craving, withdrawal symptoms, self-efficacy and mood were also observed. Completion of group treatment (⩾75% of sessions attended) was 57% and moderate levels of treatment satisfaction were reported. Conclusions: This study provides preliminary evidence that a 12-week combined CBT and MET treatment for cannabis use disorder delivered in a novel group setting improves cannabis use outcomes. Potential predictors of reduced cannabis use and retention were identified. Future controlled studies are warranted, and strategies for increasing retention should be explored. Summary: This study reviews two different types of frontline social services for unaccompanied young adult refugees participating in an intensive Social Support Programme implemented in 2016–2019 by a local municipality. More specifically, the study took a phenomenological research approach to review the impact of intensive case management and specialised educational/occupational orientation services on young refugees' capabilities and agency to reach aspired life goals. The capability approach has been applied as a theoretical framework for identifying opportunities and challenges in this regard. The paper covers a mixed-method design that includes qualitative and quantitative data. The qualitative data are drawn from 42 in-depth interviews with 24 young refugees and one interview and three focus group discussions with 10 service providers. The article also includes a limited amount of longitudinal statistics on the aspirations of 31 young refugees upon entering and exiting the support programme. Findings: This article shows theoretical and empirical evidence for utilising the capability approach to review social services for young refugees. Findings suggest that social workers and refugees face intersecting structural and interpersonal tensions that counteract with the expansion of young refugees' capabilities and agency to reach their aspired life goals. Specific strategies are suggested to diminish described challenges. Applications: Social work with unaccompanied young adult refugees should shift its attention from integrating these young individuals into the dominant social order, to prioritising their human development. Research suggests that a modular approach to treatment and training may be a promising method for promoting evidence-based practices (EBPs). Furthermore, there is growing evidence that the effects of training on specific technique implementation are affected by therapist and youth factors as well as the type of problem area addressed during training. The current study expanded these findings by examining the extent to which youths' clinical progress improved as a result of therapists' attendance at modular workshop trainings. Longitudinal, archival data from community mental health providers (n = 48) who participated in a series of anxiety and/or disruptive behavior workshops in modular approaches to EBPs for youth were examined using cross-classified multilevel modeling. Results indicated that youths' month in treatment and therapists' practice behaviors following their training significantly and positively influenced clinical progress. However, only therapists who attended a disruptive behavior training reported greater rates of improved youth treatment progress. Therapists' knowledge of the trained techniques was not a significant moderator of outcomes. Results suggest that therapists may require differential training and implementation supports that vary as function of problem area to positively enhance youth outcomes. Introduction: We examined factors influencing anemia outcomes in rural children following implementation of a prevention program. Method: Mixed methods study of children, parents, and clinicians utilized statistical modeling and content/ethnographic analysis. Retrospective chart abstraction evaluated treatments administered and measured hemoglobin in children aged 6 to 59 months (n = 161). Prospective interviews/questionnaires examined parent (n = 51) and clinician (n = 19) perceptions. Results: Anemia prevalence decreased by 21.2%. Predictors of increased hemoglobin were clinic visit number and age at first visit. Once anemia improved, children were likely to remain improved (P =.65). Despite favorable program perceptions, stakeholders emphasized ecological barriers, including social disadvantage and local practices. Discussion: Socioeconomic factors prevented guideline concordant behaviors. Persistent attention to intrapersonal, interpersonal, and community social determinants is a sine qua non for successfully managing the epidemic. The first step to provide culturally congruent care is to explicitly acknowledge that guideline-concordant behaviors are often complex. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
