This article examines the influence that digital life stories (DLS) can have on cancer research, using the PARCA1 project as an example. After describing the theoretical framework of DLS, we present the PARCA1 project. The PARCA1 project was anchored in the French context (Grand Est region) and aimed at producing knowledge on patients' experience of the cancer pathway through DLS. It involved 10 patients chosen to favor heterogeneity in profiles and experiences of illness. The paper describes the digital tool and the life stories methodology used to accompany the DLS. Next, it presents the methods and strategies used by participants to complete their DLS and the relationship between people with cancer and the accompanying researcher. Following this, we present (1) the impact of DLS on people with cancer, i.e., their progressive engagement in research, and (2) the impact on research, i.e., the methodological impact of people with cancer on research. Background: Glioblastoma, a high-grade primary brain cancer, has a median survival of approximately 14 months. Post-mortem brain donation provides insight to pathogenesis along with spatial and temporal heterogeneity. Post-mortem brain biobanking programs are increasing in number and the need to understand and improve the associated human experience is pressing. This study aims to qualitatively explore the experiences of next of kin (NOK) following the death and brain donation of a loved one and to understand the impact such programs have on NOK carers. Method: We interviewed 29 NOK following the death of their loved one and subsequent brain donation. Thematic analysis was conducted on the transcribed, qualitative interviews. Results: Four themes were identified; (1) Brain donation is a straightforward decision grounded in altruism and pragmatism; (2) Supporting donors is a source of comfort, pride and empowerment; (3) Brain donation can provide meaning for suffering and tragedy and (4) Perceptions of procedures and processes when supporting a loved one to donate. Insights into areas for improvement, for example transporting donors following a home death and the role of the body bag were also noted. Conclusion: Supporting a loved one to donate their brain can be a positive experience providing a source of hope, empowerment and purpose for NOK. Data indicating areas for consideration are broadly relevant for improving the delivery of brain donation programs for future donors and their loved ones. This paper explores the experiences of people who have lost someone to brain cancer who then went on to donate their brain tissue after their death. Through the use of interviews, it explores the impact that the donation has on a loved one or next of kin from providing a source of comfort, empowerment, pride or an alternative to 'senseless' suffering and tragedy. Introduction: Segmentation of clinical target volume (CTV) from CT images is critical for cervical cancer brachytherapy, but this task is time-consuming, laborious, and not reproducible. In this work, we aim to propose an end-to-end model to segment CTV for cervical cancer brachytherapy accurately. Methods: In this paper, an improved M-Net model (Mnet_IM) is proposed to segment CTV of cervical cancer from CT images. An input and an output branch are both proposed to attach to the bottom layer to deal with CTV locating challenges due to its lower contrast than surrounding organs and tissues. A progressive fusion approach is then proposed to recover the prediction results layer by layer to enhance the smoothness of segmentation results. A loss function is defined on each of the multiscale outputs to form a deep supervision mechanism. Numbers of feature map channels that are directly connected to inputs are finally homogenized for each image resolution to reduce feature redundancy and computational burden. Result: Experimental results of the proposed model and some representative models on 5438 image slices from 53 cervical cancer patients demonstrate advantages of the proposed model in terms of segmentation accuracy, such as average surface distance, 95% Hausdorff distance, surface overlap, surface dice, and volumetric dice. Conclusion: A better agreement between the predicted CTV from the proposed model Mnet_IM and manually labeled ground truth is obtained compared to some representative state-of-the-art models. Background: Advanced cancer patients often present with numerous eating problems, posing a significant challenge for family caregivers during the provision of nutritional care. Aim: To systematically identify and synthesize empirical literature on the experiences, perceptions, and support needs of family caregivers of patients with advanced cancer and eating problems to ascertain directions for future research. Design: Integrative review guided by Whittemore and Knafl's methodological framework. Data sources: Five electronic databases were searched from their inception to April 2021. Studies were eligible if they examined family caregivers' perspectives and experiences when caring for their relatives with advanced cancer and eating problems and were primary quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies published in English-language peer-reviewed journals. The Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool was used to evaluate the quality of the studies. Results: Twenty-seven papers from 21 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in this review. The included papers were mostly qualitative studies and were of moderate to high methodological quality. Three themes were identified: (a) multiple negative effects of advanced cancer patients' eating problems; (b) coping responses in managing advanced cancer patients' eating problems; and (c) unmet support needs in the provision of nutritional care. Conclusions: Research on the studied topic was descriptive and predominantly qualitative in nature. Quantitative research examining the impact of caregiving experiences in relation to food and eating in the context of advanced cancer patients is the first important step moving this research area forward. Objectives: The benefit of mammography screening in reducing population mortality from breast cancer is well established. In this paper, we estimate the effect of repeated participation at scheduled screens on case survival. Methods: We analysed incidence and survival data on 37,079 women from nine Swedish counties who had at least one to five invitation(s) to screening prior to diagnosis, and were diagnosed with breast cancer between 1992 and 2016. Of these, 4564 subsequently died of breast cancer. We estimated the association of survival with participation in up to the most recent five screens before diagnosis. We used proportional hazards regression to estimate the effect on survival of the number of scheduled screens in which subjects participated prior to the diagnosis of breast cancer. Results: There was successively better survival with an increasing number of screens in which the subject participated. For a woman with five previous screening invitations who participated in all five, the hazard ratio was 0.28 (95% confidence interval (CI) 0.25–0.33, p < 0.0001) compared to a woman attending none (86.9% vs 68.9% 20-year survival). Following a conservative adjustment for potential self-selection factors, the hazard ratio was 0.34 (95% CI 0.26–0.43, p < 0.0001), an approximate three-fold reduction in the hazard of dying from breast cancer. In Asia where family caregiving is part of the culture, palliative home care becomes the most suitable service to keep patients close to their family and to reduce costs. There is a wide variety of palliative home care services due to different cultures and levels of involvement of the family. This review aims to explore the implementation of palliative home care in East and Southeast Asian countries. The articles reviewed in this study were obtained from 3 electronic databases: EbscoHost, PubMed, and Scopus. Journal articles that discussed palliative home care for patients with cancer in East and Southeast Asia countries were included. Review papers were excluded. Seven studies were used in the current review. In general, there are 6 services provided for palliative home care in this region, which are daily activity living care, planning and preparation for palliative home care, education and counseling, patients' follow-up, symptom management, and direct care for family. Most of the programs involve family caregivers during the treatment. The palliative home care team consists of at least a doctor and a nurse. Symptom management is the most common service and direct care for family is the least offered palliative home care service in this region. Alleviating symptoms is one of the targets in palliative care, therefore involving family in symptom management for palliative home care is fundamental. The mortality rate of cervical cancer is the highest among female malignant tumors and seriously threatens women's lives and health. Persistent high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the leading cause of cervical cancer, which provides the basis for immunotherapy. In recent years, owing to progress in targeted therapy and immunotherapy, the survival time of patients with cervical cancer has been significantly extended. However, effective treatments for advanced, recurrent, and metastatic cancers are lacking. "Tumor immunotherapy" has been described as a viable option for tumor therapy but the efficacy of immunotherapy for cervical cancer has only been demonstrated in phase I or II clinical trials. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have shown promising clinical results particularly for treating recurrent and advanced cervical cancer, however, they remain inadequate in some patients. Immune checkpoint is the target of immunotherapy. Therefore, the identification of novel therapeutic targets is essential. In this paper, the structure, expression, function, biological effect of immune inhibitory receptors (IRs) and related clinical studies were reviewed, in order to further explore the application potential of these immune checkpoints and apply them to the future clinical treatment of cervical cancer. Purpose: This paper examines community leaders' and researchers' recommendations for reaching rural communities in a southeastern U.S. state with cancer prevention and control programming. Research Design: A qualitative inquiry of a grant network's research and community councils was conducted to explore members' opinions on how to engage rural communities and obtain input on how to recruit rural organizations for a mini-grants program. Study Sample and Data Collection: Telephone/virtual interviews were conducted with all 13 council members. Responses were analyzed using thematic analysis and findings were examined within the context of system-centric and patient-centric dimensions. Results: Council members discussed limited education, lack of insurance, low socioeconomic status, health care avoidance, and transportation as barriers to cancer prevention and control. They recommended reaching rural populations by partnering with community and faith-based organizations, use of targeted multi-media, and tailored cancer education trainings. Background: Despite Government investment, disparity in access to clinical trials continue between metropolitan and regional & rural sectors (RRR) in Australia and around the world. To improve trial access closer to home for RRR communities and rare cancer patients even in metro settings, the Australasian Teletrial Model (ATM) was developed by Clinical Oncology Society of Australia and implemented in four states. Aim of this paper is to describe the steps and processes involved in the development and implementation of ATM guided by implementation science frameworks. Method: Two implementation science frameworks namely iPARIHS and Strategic Implementation Framework were chosen to guide the project. Details of steps and processes were extracted from COSA final report. Results: ATM met the criteria for worthy innovation. For the development and implementation of the ATM, stakeholders were at national, statewide and clinical levels. A co-design with end-users and inclusion of key stakeholders in steering committees and advisory groups made the implementation smoother. Clinician levers including advocacy were useful to overcome system barriers. During the project, more patients, and clinicians at RRR participated in trials, more primary sites collaborated with RRR sites and more RRR sites gained trial capabilities. Conclusion: Pilot project achieved its objectives including improved access to patients locally, creation of linkages between metro and RRR sites and enhanced capabilities of and access to RRR sites. Implementation science frameworks were useful for identifying the necessary steps and processes at the outset. Background: Nurses play an integral role in the care of children hospitalised with a serious illness. Although information about diagnostics, treatments, and prognosis are generally conveyed to parents and caregivers of seriously ill children by physicians, nurses spend a significant amount of time at the child's bedside and have an acknowledged role in helping patients and families understand the information that they have been given by a doctor. Hence, the ethical role of the nurse in truth disclosure to children is worth exploring. Methods: A systematic academic database and grey literature search strategy was conducted using CINAHL, Medline Psych Info, and Google Scholar. Keywords used included truth, children, nurse, disclosure, serious illness, and communication. A total of 17 publications of varying types were included in the final data set. Ethical Considerations: As this was a review of the literature, there were no direct human participants. Empirical studies included in the review had received ethics approval. Results: Of the 17 articles included in the review, only one directly reported on the experiences of nurses asked to withhold the truth from patients. Empirical studies were limited to HIV-positive children and children diagnosed with cancer and the dying child. Conclusion: A paucity of literature exploring the experiences, attitudes, and beliefs of nurses with regard to truth-telling to seriously ill children is evident. Little consideration has been given to the role nurses play in communicating medical information to children in a hospital setting. The 17 articles included in the review focused on cancer, and HIV, diagnosis, and end-of-life care. Further research should be undertaken to explore the experiences and attitudes of nurses to clinical information sharing to children hospitalised with a wide range of serious illnesses and in diverse clinical scenarios. Current nursing research has characterized symptom clusters and trajectories in individuals with breast cancer. The existing literature describes the relationship between symptoms and biological variables and the potential moderating effects of individual and social factors. The genomic profiling of breast cancer has also been an area of much recent research. Emerging evidence indicates that incorporating cancer genomics into symptom science research can aid in the prognostication of symptoms and elucidate targets for symptom management interventions. The aim of this paper is to outline a model to integrate cancer genomics into symptom science research, illustrated using breast cancer and psychoneurological (PN) symptoms as an example. We present a review of the current literature surrounding breast cancer genomics (specifically cancer genomic instability) and the biological underpinnings of the PN symptom cluster. Advances in both of these areas indicate that inflammation may serve as the bridge between cancer genomics and the PN symptom cluster. Wealso outline how the integration of cancer genomics into symptom science research synergizes with current research of individual and social factors in relation to symptoms. The introduction of inhibitors of poly-(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) for the treatment of women with epithelial ovarian cancers (EOC) has radically changed the treatment in maintenance setting after responding to first- and second-line chemotherapy. The aim of this paper was to assess the pharmacological costs of PARP inhibitors (olaparib, niraparib, rucaparib and veliparib) in maintenance treatment after responding to first-line chemotherapy in EOC. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was calculated as the ratio between the difference of the costs in the intervention and in the control groups (pharmacy costs) and the difference between the effect in the intervention and in the control groups (progression-free survival (PFS)). We have considered the pivotal phase III randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Three different populations were considered: the overall population, patients with germline BRCA mutation (gBRCA) and homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) patients non-gBRCA mutation. Three thousand four hundred and twenty patients and 1209 patients were considered in maintenance treatment after responding to first- and second-line chemotherapy in EOC, respectively. At the actual price, the treatment with PARP inhibitors is not cost-effective in maintenance treatment after responding to first-line and second-line chemotherapy in EOC. Background. Many factors contribute to oral anti-cancer therapy adherence, including counselling and educational support. Objective. We systematically review the literature evaluating the effectiveness of interpersonal communication-, counselling- and education-based interventions on patient adherence to oral anticancer therapy. Methods. Using search terms pertaining to medication adherence, oral anticancer therapy, and communication, education, and counselling, we conducted a systematic search for full-text, original research articles prior to 3/13/20. Two reviewers independently reviewed each paper for inclusion and charted study information. Results. Twenty-four articles were included. All considered the use of oral anticancer therapy between two defined time points. Four studies also considered the length of time a patient persisted on therapy. Half (n = 12) of the studies reported a statistically significant relationship between the intervention and medication adherence, with no consistent pattern among intervention structure/content and effectiveness. Programmes offering in-person counselling and those targeting patients with chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), tended to report positive findings. Most studies faced substantial risk of bias, and only two reported using a behavioural theory to guide interventional content. Conclusions. Findings highlight the infancy of evidence base and need for rigorous and large-scale studies grounded in established behavioural theories to advance patient-targeted educational and counselling practices supporting adherence to oral anti-cancer therapy. Colorectal cancer is the third most prevalent cancer worldwide, and its treatment has been a demanding clinical problem. Beyond traditional surgical therapy and chemotherapy, newly revealed molecular mechanisms diversify therapeutic approaches for colorectal cancer. However, the selection of personalized treatment among multiple treatment options has become another challenge in the era of precision medicine. Artificial intelligence has recently been increasingly investigated in the treatment of colorectal cancer. This narrative review mainly discusses the applications of artificial intelligence in the treatment of colorectal cancer patients. A comprehensive literature search was conducted in MEDLINE, EMBASE, and Web of Science to identify relevant papers, resulting in 49 articles being included. The results showed that, based on different categories of data, artificial intelligence can predict treatment outcomes and essential guidance information of traditional and novel therapies, thus enabling individualized treatment strategy selection for colorectal cancer patients. Some frequently implemented machine learning algorithms and deep learning frameworks have also been employed for long-term prognosis prediction in patients with colorectal cancer. This paper explores post-treatment experiences of women who have had radiotherapy for gynaecological cancer. Drawing on data from a project which explored post-treatment wellbeing, conceptual metaphors of ghosts/haunting are used to engage with enduring legacies of cancer and 'neglected matters' in post-treatment trajectories. Current arrangements of care contribute to the idea that participants are 'out of the other side of cancer' once active treatment completes. Despite broader ambitions for holistic cancer rehabilitation, fragilities of body and mind persist, even when the outward representation is one of health, of looking well, of moving on. We show how neglected matters of cancer (visceral late effects, psychological suffering and lives not lived) are part of living with and beyond cancer. These 'ghosts' manifest in chronic states of unsettledness that are temporarily relieved by individualised 'fixes', such as mobilisation of 'mind over matter' discourse and mindfulness. This discourse and its associated tools are a powerful yet impoverished framing of approaches to living with and beyond cancer. The life expectancy of patients with advanced cancer has been prolonged with the development of systemic treatment technology. Spinal metastasis is one of the common ways of metastasis of advanced tumors, leading to spinal cord compression and compression fractures, which often lead to a significant reduction in patients' quality of life and physical function. Therefore, surgical treatment is still needed for functional recovery and local control. Separation surgery has been known since 2014 when it was purposed. Combined with radiotherapy, it can achieve an ideal goal of local control. Background: There are few scientifically evaluated psychosocial interventions in pediatric oncology, despite the needs for families. The family-based psychosocial intervention "The Family Talk Intervention" (FTI) has shown promising results in other care contexts and was therefore pilot-tested in pediatric oncology. In this study, we examined the experiences of participating in FTI from ill children's perspectives regarding feasibility and potential effects. Methods: This pilot study involved 26 families in pediatric oncology that had participated in FTI. The paper is focused on those ill children who answered surveys (n = 19) and/or participated in interviews (n = 11) when FTI had ended. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Results: For most ill children, FTI came at the right time, included a reasonable number of meetings, and the length of the meetings was appropriate. The children felt listened to and understood by the interventionists and almost all children reported that FTI had helped them in some way. The children's perceptions indicated that FTI improved communication within the family and strengthened family relations. Children reported that the parents and their siblings seemed to feel better after participation and became more understanding. Discussion: The findings of this pilot study indicated that a full-scale study could be valuable from the ill children's perspective, as FTI was reported as feasible and had positive effects. The findings showed that FTI gave families an opportunity to open up communication about the illness, adjust their behaviors, and strengthen family relationships. Introduction: The aim of this paper was to assess the cost-effectiveness of alectinib and brigatinib in first-line for anaplastic lymphoma kinase mutation-positive (ALK+) advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Pivotal phase III RCTs were considered. Four hundred and eighty-two patients were included. Both trials, which compared alectinib and brigatinib versus (vs.) crizotinib (control group), respectively, showed a gain in pharmacological costs, compared to the control group, of 194.80 € for alectinib and 648.48 € for brigatinib for an entire treatment of a single patient. Brigatinib was the less expensive, with a cost of 269.78 € for each month of PFS for both intention-to-treat (ITT) population that patients with baseline brain metastases (BBM). In conclusion, combining pharmacological costs of drugs with the measure of efficacy represented by PFS, both alectinib and brigatinib are cost-effective treatments in first-line for ALK+ NSCLC. This article seeks to review the current status of treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE) in cancer patients after the addition of direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) to the therapeutic arsenal available. The suitability of DOAC use in complex clinical situations, poorly represented in clinical trials, is controversial and difficult for care activity, making the recommendations in clinical practice guidelines the focus of special attention in this area. Recently, several randomized trials have compared low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) to DOAC for the management of CAT. Potential drug interactions with DOACs or the increased risk of bleeding in intraluminal tumors require special precautions, as do metastatic or primary brain disease and comorbid conditions, such as renal or liver failure, which are not suitably represented in pivotal studies. Furthermore, few data are available for situations involving elevated bleeding risk, with thrombocytopenia levels below the inclusion criterion of clinical trials, or recurrence during active anticoagulant therapy. Similarly, it is less clear that patients and physicians accept the presumption that oral DOAC administration is more convenient than subcutaneous LMWH, particularly when drug absorption may be compromised. The non-inclusion or under-representation of patients at higher risk for complications with anticoagulation in randomized clinical trials, makes their use complex in certain situations in health care. This paper provides a practical review of current clinical guideline recommendations regarding LMWH and/ or DOAC to treat and prevent CAT, as well as the most controversial clinical conditions for their use. Background: Exercise is often recommended for cancer patients. However, for advanced cancer palliative care patients, it is unclear whether exercise, as a lifestyle intervention, is beneficial for palliative outcomes. Aim: To examine randomized controlled trials assessing the effectiveness of lifestyle exercise interventions on palliative outcomes in patients with advanced stage cancer. Design: Systematic review and descriptive evidence synthesis. Data sources: Pubmed/Medline, Embase, CINAHL, PsychInfo, and Web of Science were systematically searched from inception to 2022. Two reviewers identified articles and removed duplicates. Next two reviewers independently screened titles and abstracts and then assessed full-texts articles for eligibility. Finally, all six reviewers examined full-text articles for eligibility and conducted the evidence synthesis. Results: Eight randomized controlled trials were included. Studies were heterogeneous making direct comparisons challenging, but were grouped along three categories: aerobic, resistance, or resistance-aerobic exercises. One of three aerobic studies had positive quality-of-life outcomes. Fatigue improved in one aerobic and one combination resistance-aerobic study. Most resistance-aerobic studies and one aerobic study showed improved physical function. All resistance studies showed improvement in at least one outcome. Across all studies, ill health was the most common reason for participant dropout. The most commonly used assessment tools were: Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy: Fatigue, European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality-of-life Questionnaire Core 30, and accelerometer. Conclusion: Current randomized controlled trials regarding effects of exercise interventions on palliative outcomes for advanced cancer patients show great variability. Background: Delays and limitations of palliative care in patients with liver transplantation- ineligible end-stage hepatocellular carcinoma according to Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer staging system may be explained by different perceptions between hepatologists and palliative care physicians in the absence of shared guidelines. Aim: To assess physicians' attitudes toward palliative care in end-stage hepatocellular carcinoma and to understand what the obstacles are to more effective management and co-shared between palliative care physicians and hepatologists. Design: Members of the Italian Association for the Study of Liver Disease and the Italian Society of Palliative Care were invited to a web-based survey to investigate practical management attitude for patients with liver transplant- ineligible end-stage hepatocellular carcinoma. Participants: Physician members of the of the two associations, representing several hospitals and services in the country. Results: Ninety-seven hepatologists and 70 palliative care physicians completed the survey: >80% regularly follow 1–19 patients; 58% of hepatologists collaborate with palliative care physicians in the management of patients, 55% of palliative care physicians take care of patients without the aid of hepatologists. Management of cirrhosis differed significantly between the two groups in terms of prescription of albumin, esophagogastroduodenoscopy, anti-viral treatment, anticoagulation, indication to paracentesis and management of encephalopathy. Full-dose acetaminophen is widely used among hepatologists, while opioids are commonly used by both categories, at full dosage, regardless of liver function. Background: The use of opioids occasionally causes tinnitus. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the use of peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonists for opioid-associated tinnitus in patients with cancer. Actual case: A 74-year-old male with pancreatic cancer complained of abdominal pain. Two days after initiating oxycodone therapy, the patient experienced tinnitus during body movements. Although peripheral tinnitus disappeared after discontinuing oxycodone, it reappeared with hydromorphone or tapentadol administration. Possible courses of action: Drug cessation is a preferred intervention for drug-induced tinnitus; however, the cessation of opioids may not be feasible in patients with cancer who are already taking opioids. Formulation of a plan: Based on the presumed mechanism of peripheral tinnitus, the use of peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonists was planned, and 200 μg/day of naldemedine was prescribed for tinnitus relief. Outcome: Tinnitus disappeared immediately after initiating naldemedine, and the pain was well-controlled. The effect was preserved after increasing or switching opioids. Lessons: The use of peripherally acting μ-opioid receptor antagonists may be an option to treat opioid-associated tinnitus without compromising the analgesic effects. Background: During neoadjuvant therapy (NAT), patients with locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) experience psychological distress (PD) and adopt appropriate coping strategies. Objective: This systematic review aimed to examine the prevalence and changes in PD and coping strategies in patients with LABC during NAT and to evaluate effective interventions to reduce their PD. Design: Quantitative (cross-sectional, longitudinal, and interventional) and qualitative studies reporting PD and coping strategies related to NAT during LABC were included. Data sources and methods: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, and Web of Science databases were consulted to gather relevant literature from the first publications until July 25, 2023. Selection was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Results: A total of 41 articles were included, of which four were qualitative. The main results showed that the prevalence of depression before NAT ranged from 0% to 46% and that of anxiety from 5.5% to 54%. After NAT, the prevalence of depression ranged from 40% to 78.5% and anxiety accounted for 27%. Additionally, PD decreased during NAT. The main determinants of PD were perceived social support, living in joint families, being affected by COVID-19 infection, delays in diagnosis, and starting neoadjuvant treatment. For coping strategies, after NAT, "resigned coping" decreased, whereas "social support" increased, and active coping strategies were correlated with better PD. Some interventions found a reduction in PD, such as a mobile health application, fasting-mimicking diet, relaxation training, and guided imaging. Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of considering PD and coping strategies in patients with LABC from diagnosis to the end of NAT. Summary measures of biomarker accuracy that employ the receiver operating characteristic surface have been proposed for biomarkers that classify patients into one of three groups: healthy, benign, or aggressive disease. The volume under the receiver operating characteristic surface summarizes the overall discriminatory ability of a biomarker in such configurations, but includes cutoffs associated with clinically irrelevant true classification rates. Due to the lethal nature of pancreatic cancer, cutoffs associated with a low true classification rate for identifying patients with pancreatic cancer may be undesirable and not appropriate for use in a clinical setting. In this project, we study the properties of a more focused criterion, the partial volume under the receiver operating characteristic surface, that summarizes the diagnostic accuracy of a marker in the three-class setting for regions restricted to only those of clinical interest. We propose methods for estimation and inference on the partial volume under the receiver operating characteristic surface under parametric and non-parametric frameworks and apply these methods to the evaluation of potential biomarkers for the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Purpose of the study: The study aimed to develop and validate a holistically based follow-up pain assessment diary for patients with cancer pain in Sri Lanka. Design of the study: Mixed-method design adapted. Methods used: Developing a pain diary and testing its psychometric qualities were done in two phases. Comprehensive literature research and qualitative semistructured interviews with patients, clinical, and subject specialists created the pain diary items. Content, face, construct, criterion validity, and reliability were evaluated. Findings: The essential domains to be assessed were identified under six main categories; pain and related characteristics, physical, psychological, social, spiritual, and financial aspects. The average variance extracted from the subscales "Influence on daily life," "Gastric disturbances," and "Pain intensity" were 0.526, 0.562, and 0.696, respectively. The heterotrait–monotrait criterion values between subscales were from 0.691 to 0.44, which was lower than the threshold. Good to excellent correlation coefficients were demonstrated with the scores of reference tools. Cronbach's alpha was computed for each subscale and ranged from 0.75 to 0.92 and composite reliability from 0.921 to 0.826. Conclusions: Pain diary is a reliable and valid instrument for follow-up assessment of holistic pain experience enabling holistic nursing among patients with cancer pain in Sri Lanka. Introduction: Cancer patients not only experience a variety of problems associated with the treatment of their disease but also a range of psychological problems such as anxiety and depression, which may lead to reduced adherence to treatment and a lower quality of life for cancer patients. Telehealth interventions are widely used for cancer patients, and their effectiveness in improving anxiety and depression in cancer patients is variable and still contradictory. Methods: Embase, Pubmed, Web of Science, PsycINFO, CINAHL Complete, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials were searched from inception to 19 April 2022. Data synthesis was conducted using STATA 15.0, and scores for anxiety and depression were calculated using standardized mean differences and 95% confidence intervals. Results: A total of 13125 cancer patients from 68 randomized controlled trials were included in the systematic evaluation. The meta-analysis showed that the telehealth intervention had a significant effect on anxiety (standardized mean differences = −0.40, 95% confidence intervals: −0.6 to 0.2, p < 0.001) and depression (standardized mean differences = −0.48, 95% confidence intervals: −0.67 to 0.28, p < 0.001) in patients with cancer. Discussion: Telehealth interventions significantly improved anxiety and depression levels in cancer patients compared to traditional care interventions. Breast cancer patients most often received telehealth interventions; electronic device-based and application-based telehealth interventions were more effective than online interventions; short-term interventions were more effective than medium-term and long-term interventions, and different outcome measurement tools led to different intervention outcomes. The article uses the concept of online self-disclosure and examines whether TikTok videos reveal information similar to what is reported in existing research on social media within this field. In addition, the study aims to identify the creators' motivations and the meanings they attribute to disclosing cancer and asks whether this disclosure challenges or supports the concept of a positive culture defined within the online self-disclosure framework. While similar research typically focuses on posts and is thus limited, this study combines conventional content analysis of 862 videos with in-depth interviews, offering a more nuanced understanding of the users' lived experience. The findings highlight that TikTok is a platform for negative (e.g., fears, anxiety) and positive self-disclosure (e.g., joyful life events, self-acceptance). What is crucial, though, is that users feel exceedingly competent in educating others. The research debunks positive culture as an overly general category and undermines the traditional understanding of online self-disclosure. It reveals that seeking support is less important for patients than informing and warning others. By focusing on the educational meanings attributed to self-disclosure, this study enriches the body of research on cancer-related content shared on TikTok, including studies on low-quality cancer-related information. Objective: Some patients with cancer admitted to palliative care have relatively long survivals of 1 year or more. The objective of this study was to find out factors associated with prolonged survival. Methods: Retrospective case-control study comparing the available data of patients with cancer who survived more than 1 year after admission in a palliative care service with patients with cancer who survived 6 months or less. The intended proportion was 4 controls for each case. Patients were identified through electronic records from 2012 until 2018. Results: And 1721 patients were identified. Of those patients, 111 (6.4%) survived for at least 1 year, and 363 (21.1%) were included as controls according to the established criteria. The intended proportion could not be reached; the proportion was only 3.3:1. The median survival of cases was 581 days (range: 371-2763), and the median survival of controls was 57 days (range: 1-182). In the multivariable analysis, patients with a hemoglobin ≥ 10.6 g/dL and a creatinine level >95 µmol/L had a higher probability of living more than 1 year. In contrast, patients with abnormal cognition, pain, anorexia, liver metastases, an Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status >1, and a neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio ≥ 3.43 had a low probability of living more than 1 year. Conclusion: Several factors were statistically associated positively or negatively with prolonged survival. However, the data of this study should be confirmed in other studies. Objective: The Palliative Performance Scale (PPS) has been reported to be as accurate as Palliative Prognostic Index (PPI). PPS is a component of the simplified PPI (sPPI). It is unknown whether PPS is as accurate as sPPI. This study aimed to compare the prognostic performance of the PPS and sPPI in patients with advanced cancer in a home palliative care setting in South Korea. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study that included Korean patients with advanced cancer who received home-based palliative care. We used the medical records maintained by specialized palliative care nurses. We computed the prognostic performance of PPS and sPPI using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) and calibration plots for the 3- and 6-week survival. Results: A total of 80 patients were included, with a median overall survival of 47.0 days. The AUROCs of PPS were 0.71 and 0.69 at the 3- and 6-week survival predictions, respectively. The AUROCs of sPPI were 0.87 and 0.73 at the 3- and 6-week survival predictions, respectively. The calibration plot demonstrated satisfactory agreement across all score ranges for both the PPS and sPPI. Conclusions: This study showed that the sPPI assessed by nurses was more accurate than the PPS in a home palliative care setting in predicting the 3-week survival in patients with advanced cancer. Objective: Corticosteroids are commonly used for symptom relief in patients with terminal cancer, but their use may have an impact on patient survival. We compared the survival of patients with terminal cancer who did and did not receive corticosteroid treatment for symptom relief, stratified by their predicted prognosis. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed consecutive patients with cancer who received corticosteroid treatment for symptom relief in a single palliative care unit. We stratified the patients according to their predicted prognosis using the palliative prognostic (PaP) score either before starting the corticosteroid treatment or at admission for control patients who did not receive a corticosteroid treatment. The 2 groups were compared for survival based on the PaP Scores. Results: We analyzed 204 patients treated with a corticosteroid during the study period and 139 control patients who did not receive corticosteroids during their treatment. No difference was observed in the survival between the treatment and control groups. Diagnoses of breast cancer are continuing to increase in the Philippines, but little is known about incidence rates among the significant number of Filipino women working abroad as migrant domestic workers (MDWs). These women are often the main income providers for their families, and their ability to work depends upon their physical health and strength. In this article, we use interpretive phenomenological analysis to explore the experiences of 10 MDWs from the Philippines who were diagnosed with breast cancer during a period of employment in Hong Kong. Analysis of these narratives revealed numerous points at which their status as temporary, transnational migrant workers intersected with their experiences of breast cancer detection, diagnosis, and treatment. We argue that these women's experiences of breast cancer were shaped by the structures of migration that link the Philippines with host destinations like Hong Kong. These structures create a unique context in which these women had to constantly renegotiate their identities as migrants, financial providers, and breast cancer patients. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background and objective: Evidence is shown for the benefits of physical activity, for patients with lung cancer, at different times through the course of the disease. Telerehabilitation can overcome some of barriers often met by patients to practice physical activity. The objective of this systematic review is to assess feasibility and safety of telerehabilitation for patients with lung cancer, its effects on physical capacity, quality of life, symptoms severity, depression and anxiety, survival, lung function, post-operative outcomes, dyspnoea and body composition. Secondary aim was to distinguish the telerehabilitation efficacy between the different phases of the disease. Data source and selection criteria: Pubmed, PEDro, Scopus, ScienceDirect, randomized controlled trials and non-randomized controlled trials, written in French or English, of telerehabilitation among patients with lung cancer. Results: Eight studies were included. Telerehabilitation is safe but was characterized by a low recruitment and attendance rate (<70%). It enhances quality of life, muscle mass, depression and anxiety but it does not improve physical capacity (except in preoperative period), symptoms severity, survival, lung function or dyspnoea. After surgery, it ameliorates quality of life, depression and anxiety. During systemic treatments of lung cancer, it improves quality of life, symptoms severity and muscle mass. Conclusion: Telerehabilitation could be proposed in patients with lung cancer as a complementary intervention of hospital-based programme to increase physical activity volume, compliance and self-efficacy. In case the classic programmes are not possible, it could also be an alternative approach for patients unable to participate to a hospital or community-based training programme. Introduction: Rapidly increasing costs of medication acquisition can pose a challenge for health-system pharmacy budgets. The impact of dose-rounding in a pediatric oncology population has not previously been well documented and a retrospective review was undertaken to quantify the potential cost benefits. Methods: A retrospective chart review of patients with an oncologic diagnosis was performed for cytotoxic agents, asparaginase products, and biotherapy administered between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2017. In the analysis, orders that could be rounded down to the nearest vial size by 5 or 10% were included. Medication pricing information was based on wholesale acquisition cost (WAC) and was provided by the Department of Pharmacy. Cost savings per medication were determined by multiplying the WAC of the medication by the number of vials saved. Results: Over a 4-year span, 347 patients were evaluated and 552 out of a possible 3110 orders (17.7%) met criteria for a theoretical cost savings of approximately $1,126,000 (∼$3200 per patient). Rounding down doses by up to 5% resulted in a potential savings of about $529,000. When rounding was extended to 5–10% of the originally ordered dose, an additional $597,000 of approximate cost savings could have been realized. The medications with the largest impact on cost savings were rituximab, pegaspargase, and erwinia asparaginase. Conclusions: For pediatric oncology patients, there exists a unique potential cost savings opportunity if doses are rounded down within 5 or 10% of the originally ordered weight-based or body surface area-calculated dose. Background: Capsaicin is a highly selective agonist of the transient receptor potential vanilloid 1. The adhesive capsaicin patch provides a high capsaicin concentration (8%) directly in the painful area – its efficacy in benign peripheral neuropathic pain (diabetic neuropathy or postherpetic neuralgia) has recently been described in the literature. However, there is scant evidence of its efficacy in chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). This is a concern for patients with multiple myeloma, who suffer from peripheral neuropathic pain induced by first-line treatments (bortezomib or thalidomide). Aim: To describe improved control of CIPN in patients with multiple myeloma using adhesive capsaicin 8% patch. Methods: We opted for a retrospective observational case series. Between October 2017 and October 2020, we collected clinical data from adult multiple myeloma patients affected by CIPN who were administered the capsaicin 8% patch in our palliative care outpatient clinic. We compiled Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS) scores, patients' medication needs and performance status before and after patch application. Results: Two women and five men with an average age of 62.85 years received bortezomib. Two patients (28.57% of the sample) also received thalidomide. The average NPRS score before patch application was 6.42/10. Five of the seven patients (71.42%) received a mean daily oral morphine dose of 52.85 mg/day, five (71.42%) received gabapentinoids and one (14.28%) received antidepressants. The average NPRS score decreased to 4/10 seven days after patch application, while the mean daily oral morphine dose remained stable. Performance status improved slightly in two patients (28.57%) and remained stable in the rest. One patient (14.28%) required an extra analgesic dose during patch application. Background: Investigation of infection risk with subcutaneous versus intravenous trastuzumab and rituximab administration in an individual patient data (IPD) and published data meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials (RCTs). Methods: Databases were searched to September 2021. Primary outcomes were serious and high-grade infection. Relative-risk (RR) and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were calculated using random-effects models. Results: IPD meta-analysis (6 RCTs, 2971 participants, 2320 infections) demonstrated higher infection incidence with subcutaneous versus intravenous administration, without reaching statistical significance (serious: 12.2% versus 9.3%, RR 1.28, 95%CI 0.93to1.77, P = 0.13; high-grade: 12.2% versus 9.9%, RR 1.32, 95%CI 0.98to1.77, P = 0.07). With exclusion of an outlying study in post-hoc analysis, increased risks were statistically significant (serious: 13.1% versus 8.4%, RR 1.53, 95%CI 1.14to2.06, P = 0.01; high-grade: 13.2% versus 9.3%, RR 1.56, 95%CI 1.16to2.11, P < 0.01). Published data meta-analysis (8 RCTs, 3745 participants, 648 infections) demonstrated higher incidence of serious (HR 1.31, 95%CI 1.02to1.68, P = 0.04) and high-grade (HR 1.52, 95%CI 1.17to1.98, P < 0.01) infection with subcutaneous versus intravenous administration. Conclusions: Results suggest increased infection risk with subcutaneous versus intravenous administration, although IPD findings are sensitive to exclusion of one trial with inconsistent results and identified risk-of-bias. Background: The introduction of CDK 4/6 inhibitors for breast cancer patients has contributed to increased ambulatory patient visits for oncologists. The Medication Assessment by Pharmacist program aims to evaluate the impact of oncology pharmacists performing medication assessment follow-up visits. Methods: Breast cancer patients on a CDK 4/6 inhibitor deemed suitable by their oncologist for pharmacist assessment could be booked for a pharmacist medication assessment appointment at alternate treatment cycles. Results: Between February 2019 to November 2021, 29 of 128 patients (22.7%) were selected for 46 total Medication Assessment by Pharmacist visits resulting in 920 min of clinic time savings for physicians. There were similar rates of adhering to provincial protocols for scheduling visits (99% vs. 96%, p = 0.12) and monitoring investigations (98% vs. 98%, p = 0.96) between those enrolled in Medication Assessment by Pharmacist or not. Surveys completed by medical oncologists and pharmacists demonstrated that nine of nine oncologists felt Medication Assessment by Pharmacist reduced workload and wanted Medication Assessment by Pharmacist expanded to additional oncology drugs. Pharmacist-completed surveys revealed that nine of nine pharmacists felt Medication Assessment by Pharmacist increased job satisfaction, and allowed further application of clinical skills. All agreed that patients were receptive to meeting with pharmacists. According to survey results, 33% of oncologists versus 100% of pharmacists routinely asked about medication adherence, new medications or supplements. Conclusion: Integrating pharmacists into a shared care model reduces ambulatory patient visits for oncologists without deviating from provincial protocol guidelines for monitoring and visits for patients on CDK 4/6 inhibitors. Leveraging the medication expertise of pharmacists also increases the frequency of addressing medication adherence and concurrent therapies. Social determinants of health (SDOH) are structural factors that yield health inequities. Within the context of cancer, these inequities include screening rates and survival rates, as well as higher symptom burden during and after treatment. While pain is one of the most frequently reported symptoms, the relationship between SDOHs and cancer pain is not well understood. The purpose of this study is to describe and synthesize the published research that has evaluated the relationships between SDOH and cancer pain. A systematic search of PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase was conducted to identify studies in which cancer pain and SDOH were described. In all, 20 studies met the inclusion criteria. In total, 14 studies reported a primary aim related to SDOH and cancer pain. Demographic variables including education or income were used most frequently. Six specific measurements were utilized to measure SDOH, such as the acculturation scale, the composite measure of zip codes for poverty level and blight prevalence, or the segregation index. Among the five domains of SDOH based on Healthy People 2030, social and community was the most studied, followed by economic stability, and education access and quality. The neighborhood and built environment domain was the least studied. Despite increasing attention to SDOH, the majority of published studies use single-dimension variables derived from demographic data to evaluate the relationships between SDOH and cancer pain. Future research is needed to explore the intersectionality of SDOH domains and their impact on cancer pain. This systematic review aims to examine the characteristics of psychological interventions that aim to enhance positive outcomes, such as wellbeing, post-traumatic growth, or hope in cancer caregivers. Studies published until December 2023 were searched on PubMed, Scopus, PsycINFO, WOS, PsycARTICLES and were included when examining interventions targeting positive outcomes with adult cancer caregivers. Of the 1424 articles retrieved through the databases, 16 studies were eligible for inclusion in this review, targeting 908 caregivers (70.2% female; M age = 53.5). A narrative synthesis was used to describe the interventions, which were based on a variety of approaches such as psychoeducation, mindfulness, or Existential Behavioral Therapy, and reported positive gains for the positive outcomes. The results show few randomized controlled trials published to date, highlight the contrast between the focus shift towards these outcomes and the need for systematic testing of the interventions, to be able to inform evidence-based service delivery. Background: Different factors can affect the quality of life of patients treated for head and neck cancer undergoing major surgical intervention. However, it remains unclear which specific factors and what possible interventions could have the greatest influence on quality of life postoperatively for patients undergoing surgical resection with free flap reconstruction. The objective of our systematic review was to identify which factors, at the time of surgical treatment, are associated with a worse postoperative quality of life for patients undergoing surgical resection with free flap reconstruction for head and neck cancer. Methods: We performed a systematic review of MEDLINE, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), from their inception through November 2021. We included peer reviewed studies that evaluated the impact of specific factors on quality of life for adult patients who underwent surgery with free flap reconstruction for head and neck cancer. Two reviewers independently screened citations for eligibility and extracted data. Risk of bias of each study was evaluated using the New-Castle Ottawa Scale. Vote counting and qualitative review were used to synthesize results. All relevant findings were reported. Results: We initially identified 1971 articles. We included 22 articles in our systematic review, totaling 1398 patients. There was a high level of variability for factors evaluated throughout studies and many studies presented small sample sizes. However, some factors were associated with worse long-term quality of life, including older age, radiotherapy, higher tumor stage, dysphagia, anxiety as well as depressive symptoms. Very few articles analyzed their data for specific tumor subsites and the impact of psychosocial factors was rarely evaluated throughout studies. Conclusions: For patients with head and neck cancer requiring free flap reconstruction, some specific factors may correlate with changes in quality of life. However, these findings are based on very few and mostly underpowered studies. Background: As the majority of pediatric patients with cancer survive their disease, generating a population of over 500,000 childhood cancer survivors in the United States, it is imperative to minimize the lifelong consequences of treatment, which include temporary or permanent infertility caused by certain cancer treatments. A fertility consultation at diagnosis can provide patients and families with the opportunity to be informed regarding the likelihood of gonadal dysfunction and to consider fertility preservation. Method: After our pediatric hospital started to offer tissue cryopreservation, we initiated this evidence-based interventional quality improvement project. Our primary aim was to ensure that all newly diagnosed prepubertal patients with cancer who met the criteria for fertility tissue preservation were correctly identified and offered an educational consultation and preservation. Results: Between July 15, 2022 and October 30, 2022, 54 patients' treatment plans were evaluated to determine treatment-related infertility risk using the Oncofertility Consortium Pediatric Initiative Network's Risk Assessment tool. Fifteen patients were at a high level of significantly increased risk and 13 were eligible for consultation. Seven (46%) patients and their families received a consultation. Initiation of treatment before referral was the primary reason for lack of consultation. Six of seven patients receiving consultation (86%) elected to undergo preservation. Preservation procedures did not cause a delay in starting treatment for those patients. Discussion: A fertility preservation program with established policies and processes can increase the likelihood that prepubertal patients at high risk for infertility are correctly identified, educated, and offered preservation. Objectives: Laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) is a common squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck with no reliable diagnostic biomarkers. However, recent studies have shown that inflammation plays an essential role in tumor development, and several inflammation-based biomarkers have been shown to have prognostic value. This study aimed to investigate the auxiliary value of fibrinogen (FIB), fibrinogen degradation products (FDP), and lymphocyte/monocyte ratio (LMR) in LSCC diagnosis and prognosis. Methods: Clinical data from 218 patients recently diagnosed with LSCC and 207 diagnosed with benign laryngeal lesions (BLLs) were retrospectively reviewed. Potential diagnostic biomarkers were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analyses; receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was used to identify cut-off values and diagnostic efficiency. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Logistic regression analysis was used to screen for independent risk factors to construct a diagnostic nomogram. The chi-squared test and Kaplan–Meier method were performed to investigate the correlation of clinicopathological characteristics and 3-year overall survival (OS) with FIB, FDP, and LMR in patients with LSCC. Results: FIB, FDP, and LMR levels were significantly different between the LSCC and BLL groups (P <.001), and all were independent risk factors for LSCC. The area under the ROC curve of the diagnostic nomogram was.894. Additionally, FIB, FDP, and LMR were correlated with some invasive clinicopathological features, and LMR ≥4.29 was associated with reduced OS (P =.038). Chemotherapy and radiation therapy can cause gonadal dysfunction in women of reproductive age. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation is performed to restore fertility by allowing transplantation of the patient's frozen-thawed ovarian tissue or through future in vitro maturation and in vitro fertilization of frozen-thawed oocytes. Herein, we describe our initial experience with vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery for ovarian tissue preservation in a young woman with malignant tumor. A 23-year-old woman with anaplastic lymphoma kinase-positive malignant lymphoma was scheduled for hematopoietic stem cell transplantation after experiencing relapse following R-cyclophosphamide, doxorubicin, vincristine, and prednisolone therapy. Ovarian tissue cryopreservation was selected as only MII2 oocytes were collected. Vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery was performed to excise the left ovary. Ovarian tissues were frozen using the vitrification method. The operative time was 37 min, and blood loss was minimal. Pathological examination revealed no metastatic findings of malignant lymphoma and no thermal damage to the ovarian tissue due to bipolar disorder. The patient was discharged on the first day postoperatively, and her postoperative course was uneventful. The vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery technique can provide a safe and effective alternative to laparoscopy or laparotomy for the cryopreservation of ovarian tissue in young patients with cancer. We believe this method has potential application in sexually mature female cancer survivors. Objectives: This review aimed to synthesize the best available evidence concerning the effectiveness of electronic health, mindfulness-based interventions (eHealth-MBIs) on anxiety, depression, mindfulness and quality of life (QoL) among cancer patients/survivors. Methods: Published and unpublished studies were retrieved from 10 electronic databases. Two independent authors screened and selected articles, extracted data using a standardized form and appraised the studies with the Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. Meta-analyses were performed using a random-effect model with Review Manager (REVMAN). Standardized mean differences (SMDs) were used to determine intervention effects. Narrative syntheses were conducted for studies not suitable for meta-analyses. Heterogeneity was identified through I 2 and chi-square statistics. Subgroup analyses were performed based on types of controls, age groups and gender. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation approach was used to assess overall quality. Results: In total, 18 studies were included. The eHealth-MBIs improved primary outcomes of anxiety (SMD = −0.28) and depression (SMD = −0.24), among cancer patients/survivors with small effect sizes. Effects for the secondary outcomes of QoL (SMD = 0.25) and mindfulness (SMD = 0.29) were observed at short-term follow-up assessments but not at post-intervention. Overall quality was rated as low for the primary and very low for the secondary outcomes. Conclusion: The eHealth-MBIs can be offered as a cost-effective and accessible alternative for cancer patients and survivors in healthcare settings. Future research may further explore the effectiveness of eHealth-MBIs based on different types of MBIs, cancer types, modes of delivery and other outcomes such as stress and post-traumatic growth. Objective: The purpose of this systematic review is to determine the evidence-based information and results about the effectiveness of telehealth programs on the mental health of women with breast cancer. Methods: The research process was carried out using PRISMA guidelines. Randomized controlled trials with available abstract and full text, which were published in English with the keywords "telehealth," "telemedicine," "web-based therapy," "telepsychiatry," "online therapy" and "breast cancer" in Pub Med, PsycINFO, Medline, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Sciences and Cochrane databases between 2015–2019 were searced. As a result of the evaluations, the research was completed with 16 studies meeting the research criteria. Results: There was strong evidence for reduce the fear of relapse of cancer, depressive symptoms and severity of depression, distress, intrusive thoughts, anxiety, sleep disorder, insomnia, improve quality of life and for improve cognitive functions, improve psychological strength and sleep quality of telehealth programs in women with breast cancer. Furthermore, evidence was found for increase psychological health, functionality, optimism and control over the future, positive mood and life appreciation, and drug compliance of these programs. Conclusion: This review found evidence for the effectiveness of telehealth programs on the mental problems of women with breast cancer. In this sense, it is recommended to expand the use of telehealth programs, which can save time and cost, are accessible and easily applicable by nurses, to improve the mental health of women with breast cancer, and further studies are recommended. Objective: Multiple myeloma cells resist standard therapies due to overexpression of the transport protein, exportin 1. Selinexor is a novel drug that targets the Exportin 1 protein in these cells. Data source: A comprehensive search was done, and data showing the efficacy and safety of selinexor in relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma was collected using PubMed, Google Scholar, and clincialtrials.gov. Data summary: Results from the clinical trials STORM, BOSTON, and STOMP were included. Parts I and II of the STORM trial revealed a progression-free survival (PFS) of 4.7 and 3.7 months, a median duration of response of 6.2 and 4.4 months, and an overall survival of 7.3 and 8.4 months, respectively. BOSTON trial's SVd arm (selinexor, bortezomib, and dexamethasone) had a median follow-up period of 13.2 months and an mPFS of 13.93 months. The Vd arm (bortezomib and dexamethasone) had a median follow-up duration of 16.5 months and an mPFS of 9.46 months. The STOMP trial is still active and has limited data available. The SKd arm (selinexor, carfilzomib, and dexamethasone) reported an overall response rate of 66.7% in patients with triple refractory multiple myeloma, and 82% in patients with high-risk cytogenetics. The SPd arm (selinexor, pomalidomide, and dexamethasone) shows an overall response rate of 54.30% in pomalidomide naïve-nonrefractory, 35.70% in pomalidomide refractory and 60% in those dosed at RP2D. SRd arm (selinexor, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone) shows an overall response rate of 91.7% in lenalidomide naïve and 12.5% in lenalidomide refractory patients. SVd (selinexor, bortezomib, and dexamethasone) arm reported an overall response rate of 63% in all patients while the SDd arm (selinexor, daratumumab, and dexamethasone) showed an overall response rate of 73%. Conclusion: To improve the outcome of patients with relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma, it is critical to develop new therapies, assess potential therapeutic synergies, and overcome drug resistance by determining the efficacy of multiple myeloma therapies across multiple disease subgroups. Background: Psychological and existential suffering affects many people with advanced illness, and current therapeutic options have limited effectiveness. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is a safe and effective therapy for refractory depression, but no previous study has used rTMS to treat psychological or existential distress in the palliative setting. Aim: To determine whether a 5-day course of "accelerated" rTMS is feasible and can improve psychological and/or existential distress in a palliative care setting. Design: Open-label, single arm, feasibility, and preliminary efficacy study of intermittent theta-burst stimulation to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, 600 pulses/session, 8 sessions/day (once per hour) for 5 days. The outcomes were the rates of recruitment, completion of intervention, and follow-up (Feasibility); and the proportion of participants achieving 50% improvement on the Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) or Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) 2 weeks post-treatment (Preliminary Efficacy). Setting/participants: Adults admitted to our academic Palliative Care Unit with advanced illness, life expectancy >1 month and psychological distress. Results: Due to COVID-19 pandemic-related interruptions, a total of nine participants were enrolled between August 2021 and April 2023. Two withdrew before starting rTMS, one stopped due to clinical deterioration unrelated to rTMS, and six completed the rTMS treatment. Five of six participants had a >50% improvement in HDRS, HADS-Anxiety, or both between baseline and the 2 week follow up; the sixth died prior to the 2-week follow-up. In this small sample, mean depression scores decreased from baseline to 2 weeks post-treatment (HDRS 18 vs 7, p = 0.03). Side effects of rTMS included transient mild scalp discomfort. Conclusions: Accelerated rTMS improved symptoms of depression, anxiety, or both in this small feasibility and preliminary efficacy study. A larger, sham-controlled study is warranted to determine whether rTMS could be an effective, acceptable, and scalable treatment in the palliative setting. Cross-validation is the most common way of selecting tuning parameters in penalized regression, but its use in penalized Cox regression models has received relatively little attention in the literature. Due to its partial likelihood construction, carrying out cross-validation for Cox models is not straightforward, and there are several potential approaches for implementation. Here, we propose a new approach based on cross-validating the linear predictors of the Cox model and compare it to approaches that have been proposed elsewhere. We show that the proposed approach offers an attractive balance of performance and numerical stability, and illustrate these advantages using simulated data as well as analyzing a high-dimensional study of gene expression and survival in lung cancer patients. Sequential multiple assignment randomized trial design is becoming increasingly used in the field of precision medicine. This design allows comparisons of sequences of adaptive interventions tailored to the individual patient. Superiority testing is usually the initial goal in order to determine which embedded adaptive intervention yields the best primary outcome on average. When direct superiority is not evident, yet an adaptive intervention poses other benefits, then non-inferiority testing is warranted. Non-inferiority testing in the sequential multiple assignment randomized trial setup is rather new and involves the specification of non-inferiority margin and other important assumptions that are often unverifiable internally. These challenges are not specific to sequential multiple assignment randomized trial and apply to two-arm non-inferiority trials that do not include a standard-of-care (or placebo) arm. To address some of these challenges, three-arm non-inferiority trials that include the standard-of-care arm are proposed. However, methods developed so far for three-arm non-inferiority trials are not sequential multiple assignment randomized trial-specific. This is because apart from embedded adaptive interventions, sequential multiple assignment randomized trial typically does not include a third standard-of-care arm. In this article, we consider a three-arm sequential multiple assignment randomized trial from an National Institutes of Health-funded study of symptom management strategies among people undergoing cancer treatment. Motivated by that example, we propose a novel data analytic method for non-inferiority testing in the framework of three-arm sequential multiple assignment randomized trial for the first time.
