With the advancement in living standards, there has been a significant surge in the quantity and diversity of household waste. To safeguard the environment and optimize resource utilization, there is an urgent demand for effective and cost-efficient intelligent waste classification methodologies. This study presents MRS-YOLO (Multi-Resolution Strategy-YOLO), a waste detection and classification model. The paper introduces the SlideLoss_IOU technique for detecting small objects, integrates RepViT of the Transformer mechanism, and devises a novel feature extraction strategy by amalgamating multi-dimensional and dynamic convolution mechanisms. These enhancements not only elevate the detection accuracy and speed but also bolster the robustness of the current YOLO model. Validation conducted on a dataset comprising 12,072 samples across 10 categories, including recyclable metal and paper, reveals a 3.6% enhancement in mAP50% accuracy compared to YOLOv8, coupled with a 15.09% reduction in volume. Furthermore, the model demonstrates improved accuracy in detecting small targets and exhibits comprehensive detection capabilities across diverse scenarios. Fruit fly species classification is a fine-grained task as there is a small gap between species. In order to effectively identify and improve the recognition of fruit flies, a fine-grained image-recognition method based on a multi-channel self-attention mechanism was studied and a network framework for fine-grained image recognition based on deep learning was designed in this paper. In this framework, long-term and short-term memory networks are used to extract the underlying features in fruit fly fine-grained images. By inputting the underlying features in the multi-channel self-attention mechanism module, the global and local attention feature maps can be obtained.The weighted attention feature map can also be obtained by multiplying the weight of each channel and the attention feature map. The fine-grained image features of fruit flies were obtained by summing the weighted attention feature map. A softmax classifier was used to process the features and complete the recognition of the fruit fly fine-grained images. Two fine-grained image datasets of fruit flies were applied as experimental objects. Dataset 1 and Dataset 2 contain 11,778 images and 20,580 images from 46 different categories of fruit flies, respectively. The Kappa coefficient was used as the evaluation index to identify fruit fly images with different targets using the method proposed herein. The experimental results showed that, as the number of attention channels increased, the Kappa coefficient gradually increased, suggesting an improvement in the accuracy of fine-grained image recognition. The fine-grained image features extracted by introducing a multi-channel self-attention mechanism exhibited more distinct boundaries with a small amount of overlap, demonstrating strong feature extraction capabilities. When dealing with fine-grained images with either simple or complex backgrounds, the method proposed in this paper has good performance and generalization ability. In the field of object detection, small object detection in remote sensing images is an important and challenging task. Due to limitations in size and resolution, most existing methods often suffer from localization blurring. To address the above problem, this paper proposes a remote sensing small object detection network based on adaptive channel attention and large kernel adaptation. This approach aims to enhance multi-channel information mining and multi-scale feature extraction to alleviate the problem of localization blurring. To enhance the model's focus on the features of small objects in remote sensing at varying scales, this paper introduces an adaptive channel attention block. This block applies adaptive attention weighting based on the input feature dimensions, guiding the model to better focus on local information. To mitigate the loss of local information by large kernel convolutions, a large kernel adaptive block is designed. The block dynamically adjusts the surrounding spatial receptive field based on the context around the detection area, improving the model's ability to extract information around remote sensing small objects. To address the recognition confusion during the sample classification process, a layer batch normalization method is proposed. This method enhances the consistency analysis capabilities of adaptive learning, thereby reducing the decline in the model's classification accuracy caused by sample misclassification. Supervised learning has been the cornerstone of many successful medical imaging applications. However, its reliance on large labeled datasets poses significant challenges, especially in the medical domain, where data annotation is time-consuming and expensive. In response, self-supervised learning (SSL) has emerged as a promising alternative, leveraging unlabeled data to learn meaningful representations without explicit supervision. This paper provides a detailed overview of supervised learning and its limitations in medical imaging, underscoring the need for more efficient and scalable approaches. The study emphasizes the importance of the area under the curve (AUC) as a key evaluation metric in assessing SSL performance. The AUC offers a comprehensive measure of model performance across different operating points, which is crucial in medical applications, where false positives and negatives have significant consequences. In recent years, with the rapid development of deep learning technology, a large number of excellent convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have been proposed, many of which are based on improvements to classical methods. Based on the Inception family of methods, depthwise separable convolution was applied to Xception to achieve lightweighting, and Inception-ResNet introduces residual connections to accelerate model convergence. However, existing improvements for the Inception module often neglect further enhancement of its receptive field, while increasing the receptive field of CNNs has been widely studied and proven to be effective in improving classification performance. Motivated by this fact, three effective expansion modules are proposed in this paper. The first expansion module, Inception expand (Inception-e) module, is proposed to improve the classification accuracy by concatenating more and deeper convolutional branches. To reduce the number of parameters for Inception e, this paper proposes a second expansion module—Equivalent Inception-e (Eception) module, which is equivalent to Inception-e in terms of feature extraction capability, but which suppresses the growth of the parameter quantity brought by the expansion by effectively reducing the redundant convolutional layers; on the basis of Eception, this paper proposes a third expansion module—Lightweight Eception (Lception) module, which crosses depthwise convolution with ordinary convolution to further effectively reduce the number of parameters. The three proposed modules have been validated on the Cifar10 dataset. The experimental results show that all these extensions are effective in improving the classification accuracy of the models, and the most significant effect is the Lception module, where Lception (rank = 4) on the Cifar10 dataset improves the accuracy by 1.5% compared to the baseline model (Inception module A) by using only 0.15 M more parameters. With the increasing demand for high-resolution images, handling high-dimensional image data has become a key aspect of intelligence algorithms. One effective approach is to preserve the high-dimensional manifold structure of the data and find the accurate mappings in a lower-dimensional space. However, various non-sparse, high-energy occlusions in real-world images can lead to erroneous calculations of sample relationships, invalidating the existing distance-based manifold dimensionality reduction techniques. Many types of noise are difficult to capture and filter in the original domain but can be effectively separated in the frequency domain. Inspired by this idea, a novel approach is proposed in this paper, which obtains the high-dimensional manifold structure according to the correlationships between data points in the frequency domain and accurately maps it to a lower-dimensional space, named Frequency domain-based Manifold Dimensionality Reduction (FMDR). In FMDR, samples are first transformed into frequency domains. Then, interference is filtered based on the distribution in the frequency domain, thereby emphasizing discriminative features. Subsequently, an innovative kernel function is proposed for measuring the similarities between samples according to the correlationships in the frequency domain. With the assistance of these correlationships, a graph structure can be constructed and utilized to find the mapping in a low-dimensional space. To further demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, FMDR is employed for the semi-supervised classification problems in this paper. Experiments using public image datasets indicate that, compared to baseline algorithms and state-of-the-art methods, our approach achieves superior recognition performance. In recent years, classification and identification of Earth's surface materials has been a challenging research topic in the field of earth science and remote sensing (RS). Although deep learning techniques have achieved some results in remote sensing image classification, there are still some challenges for multimodal remote sensing data classification, such as information redundancy between multimodal remote sensing images. In this paper, we propose a multimodal remote sensing data classification method IFF-Net based on irregular feature fusion, called IFF-Net. The IFF-Net architecture utilizes weight-shared residual blocks for feature extraction while maintaining the independent batch normalization (BN) layer. During the training phase, the redundancy of the current channel is determined by evaluating the judgement factor of the BN layer. If this judgment factor falls below a predefined threshold, it indicates that the current channel information is redundant and should be substituted with another channel. Sparse constraints are imposed on some of the judgment factors in order to remove extra channels and enhance generalization. Furthermore, a module for feature normalization and calibration has been devised to leverage the spatial interdependence of multimodal features in order to achieve improved discrimination. Two standard datasets are used in the experiments to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Automotive radar is one of the key sensors for intelligent driving. Radar image sequences contain abundant spatial and temporal information, enabling target classification. For existing radar spatiotemporal classifiers, multi-view radar images are usually employed to enhance the information of the target and 3D convolution is employed for spatiotemporal feature extraction. These models consume significant hardware resources and are not applicable to real-time applications. In this paper, RadarTCN, a novel lightweight network, is proposed that achieves high-accuracy online target classification using single-view radar image sequences only. In RadarTCN, 2D convolution and 3D-TCN are employed to extract spatiotemporal features sequentially. To reduce data dimensionality and computational complexity, a multi-layer max pooling down-sampling method is designed in a 2D convolution module. Meanwhile, the 3D-TCN module is improved through residual pruning and causal convolution is introduced for leveraging the performance of online target classification. The experimental results demonstrate that RadarTCN can achieve high-precision online target recognition for both range-angle and range-Doppler map sequences. Problems related to ventral hernia repairs (VHR) are very common, and evaluating them using computational methods can assist in selecting the most appropriate treatment. This study is based upon data from 3339 patients from different European countries observed during the last 12 years (2012–2023), which were collected by specialists in hernia surgery. Most patients underwent standard surgical procedures, with a growing trend towards laparoscopic surgery. This paper focuses on statistically evaluating the treatment methods in relation to patient age, body mass index (BMI), and the type of repair. Appropriate mathematical methods are employed to extract and classify the selected features, with emphasis on computational and machine-learning techniques. The paper presents surgical hernia treatment statistics related to patient age, BMI, and repair methods. The main conclusions point to mean groin hernia repair (GHR) complications of 19% for patients in the database. The accuracy of separating GHR mesh surgery with and without postoperative complications reached 74.4% using a two-layer neural network classification. Robotic surgeries represent 22.9% of all the evaluated hernia repairs. Handloom textile products play an essential role in both the financial and cultural landscape of natives, necessitating accurate and efficient methods for authenticating against replicated powerloom textiles for the protection of heritage and indigenous weavers' economic viability. This paper presents a new approach to the automated identification of handloom textiles leveraging a deep metric learning technique. A labeled handloom textile dataset of 25,166 images was created by collecting handloom textile samples of six unique types, working with indigenous weavers in Assam, Northeast India. The proposed method achieved remarkable success by acquiring biased feature representations that facilitate the effective separation of different fiber types in a learned feature space. Through extensive experimentation and comparison with baseline models, our approach demonstrated superior efficiency in classifying handloom textiles with an accuracy of 97.8%. Modern condition monitoring and industrial fault prediction have advanced to include intelligent techniques, aiming to improve reliability, productivity, and safety. The integration of ultrasonic signal processing with various machine learning (ML) models can significantly enhance the efficiency of industrial fault diagnosis. In this paper, ultrasonic data are analyzed and applied to ensemble ML algorithms. Four methods for reducing dimensionality are employed to illustrate differences among acoustic faults. Different features in the time domain are extracted, and predictive ensemble models including a gradient boosting classifier (GB), stacking classifier (Stacking), voting classifier (Voting), Adaboost, Logit boost (Logit), and bagging classifier (Bagging) are implemented. To assess the model's performance on new data during experiments, k-fold cross-validation (CV) was employed. This paper proposes a novel method for construction component classification by designing a feature-based deep learning network to tackle the automation problem in construction digitization. Although scholars have proposed a variety of ways to achieve the use of deep learning to classify point clouds, there are few practical engineering applications in the construction industry. However, in the process of building digitization, the level of manual participation has significantly reduced the efficiency of digitization and increased the application restrictions. To address this problem, we propose a robust classification method using deep learning networks, which is combined with traditional shape features for the point cloud of construction components. The proposed method starts with local and global feature extraction, where global features processed by the neural network and the traditional shape features are processed separately. Then, we generate a feature map and perform deep convolution to achieve feature fusion. Finally, experiments are designed to prove the efficiency of the proposed method based on the construction dataset we establish. Target recognition and fine-grained ship classification in remote sensing face challenges of high inter-class similarity and sample scarcity. A transfer fusion-based ship image harmonization algorithm is proposed to overcome these challenges. This algorithm designs a feature transfer fusion strategy based on the combination of a region-aware instantiation and attention mechanism. Adversarial learning is implemented through an image harmony generator and discriminator module to generate realistic remote sensing ship harmony images. Furthermore, the domain encoder and domain discriminator modules are responsible for extracting feature representations of the foreground and background, and further align the ship foreground with remote sensing ocean background features through feature discrimination. Compared with other advanced image conversion techniques, our algorithm delivers more realistic visuals, improving classification accuracy for six ship types by 3% and twelve types by 2.94%, outperforming Sim2RealNet. Finally, a mixed dataset containing data augmentation and harmonizing samples and real data was proposed for the fine-grained classification task of remote sensing ships. Evaluation experiments were conducted on eight typical fine-grained classification algorithms, and the accuracy of the fine-grained classification for all categories of ships was analyzed. The experimental results show that the mixed dataset proposed in this paper effectively alleviates the long-tail problem in real datasets, and the proposed remote sensing ship data augmentation framework performs better than state-of-the-art data augmentation methods in fine-grained ship classification tasks. The classification of Stropharia rugoso-annulata is currently reliant on manual sorting, which may be subject to bias. To improve the sorting efficiency, automated sorting equipment could be used instead. However, sorting naked mushrooms in real time remains a challenging task due to the difficulty of accurately identifying, locating and sorting large quantities of them simultaneously. Models must be deployable on resource-limited devices, making it challenging to achieve both a high accuracy and speed. This paper proposes the APHS-YOLO (YOLOv8n integrated with AKConv, CSPPC and HSFPN modules) model, which is lightweight and efficient, for identifying Stropharia rugoso-annulata of different grades and seasons. This study includes a complete dataset of runners of different grades in spring and autumn. To enhance feature extraction and maintain the recognition accuracy, the new multi-module APHS-YOLO uses HSFPNs (High-Level Screening Feature Pyramid Networks) as a thin-neck structure. It combines an improved lightweight PConv (Partial Convolution)-based convolutional module, CSPPC (Integration of Cross-Stage Partial Networks and Partial Convolution), with the Arbitrary Kernel Convolution (AKConv) module. Additionally, to compensate for the accuracy loss due to lightweighting, APHS-YOLO employs a knowledge refinement technique during training. Compared to the original model, the optimized APHS-YOLO model uses 57.8% less memory and 62.5% fewer computational resources. It has an FPS (frames per second) of over 100 and even achieves 0.1% better accuracy metrics than the original model. The kinematics of the human hand exhibit complex and diverse characteristics unique to each individual. Various techniques such as vision-based, ultrasonic-based, and data-glove-based approaches have been employed to analyze human hand movements. However, a critical challenge remains in efficiently analyzing and classifying hand grasp types based on time-series kinematic data. In this paper, we propose a novel sparse coding feature extraction technique based on dictionary learning to address this challenge. Our method enhances model accuracy, reduces training time, and minimizes overfitting risk. We benchmarked our approach against principal component analysis (PCA) and sparse coding based on a Gaussian random dictionary. Our results demonstrate a significant improvement in classification accuracy: achieving 81.78% with our method compared to 31.43% for PCA and 77.27% for the Gaussian random dictionary. Furthermore, our technique outperforms in terms of macro-average F1-score and average area under the curve (AUC) while also significantly reducing the number of features required. The paper presents the comparative analysis of Long short-term memory (LSTM) and one-dimensional convolutional neural networks (1-D CNNs) for tool wear classification in chipboard milling processes. The complexity of sequence data in various fields makes selecting the right model for sequence classification very important. This research aims to show the distinct capabilities and performance nuances of LSTM and 1-D CNN models, leveraging their inherent strengths in understanding temporal dependencies and feature extraction, respectively. Through a series of experiments, the study unveils that while both models demonstrate competencies in handling sequence data, the 1-D CNN model, with its superior feature extraction capabilities, achieved the best performance, boasting an accuracy of 94.5% on the test dataset. This paper presents a computational approach for quantifying soybean defects through seed classification using deep learning techniques. To differentiate between good and defective soybean seeds quickly and accurately, we introduce a lightweight soybean seed defect identification network (SSDINet). Initially, the labeled soybean seed dataset is developed and processed through the proposed seed contour detection (SCD) algorithm, which enhances the quality of soybean seed images and performs segmentation, followed by SSDINet. The classification network, SSDINet, consists of a convolutional neural network, depthwise convolution blocks, and squeeze-and-excitation blocks, making the network lightweight, faster, and more accurate than other state-of-the-art approaches. Experimental results demonstrate that SSDINet achieved the highest accuracy, of 98.64%, with 1.15 M parameters in 4.70 ms, surpassing existing state-of-the-art models. Effective feature extraction and selection are crucial for the accurate classification and prediction of hand gestures based on electromyographic signals. In this paper, we systematically compare six filter and wrapper feature evaluation methods and investigate their respective impacts on the accuracy of gesture recognition. The investigation is based on several benchmark datasets and one real hand gesture dataset, including 15 hand force exercises collected from 14 healthy subjects using eight commercial sEMG sensors. A total of 37 time- and frequency-domain features were extracted from each sEMG channel. The benchmark dataset revealed that the minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance (mRMR) feature evaluation method had the poorest performance, resulting in a decrease in classification accuracy. However, the RFE method demonstrated the potential to enhance classification accuracy across most of the datasets. It selected a feature subset comprising 65 features, which led to an accuracy of 97.14%. The Mutual Information (MI) method selected 200 features to reach an accuracy of 97.38%. The Feature Importance (FI) method reached a higher accuracy of 97.62% but selected 140 features. Further investigations have shown that selecting 65 and 75 features with the RFE methods led to an identical accuracy of 97.14%. A thorough examination of the selected features revealed the potential for three additional features from three specific sensors to enhance the classification accuracy to 97.38%. These results highlight the significance of employing an appropriate feature selection method to significantly reduce the number of necessary features while maintaining classification accuracy. Chemical warfare agents pose a serious threat due to their extreme toxicity, necessitating swift the identification of chemical gases and individual responses to the identified threats. Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy offers a method for remote material analysis, particularly in detecting colorless and odorless chemical agents. In this paper, we propose a deep neural network utilizing a semi-supervised autoencoder (SSAE) for the classification of chemical gases based on FTIR spectra. In contrast to traditional methods, the SSAE concurrently trains an autoencoder and a classifier attached to a latent vector of the autoencoder, enhancing feature extraction for classification. The SSAE was evaluated on laboratory-collected FTIR spectra, demonstrating a superior classification performance compared to existing methods. The efficacy of the SSAE lies in its ability to generate denser cluster distributions in latent vectors, thereby enhancing gas classification. Gait, a manifestation of one's walking pattern, intricately reflects the harmonious interplay of various bodily systems, offering valuable insights into an individual's health status. However, the current study has shortcomings in the extraction of temporal and spatial dependencies in joint motion, resulting in inefficiencies in pathological gait classification. In this paper, we propose a Frequency Pyramid Graph Convolutional Network (FP-GCN), advocating to complement temporal analysis and further enhance spatial feature extraction. specifically, a spectral decomposition component is adopted to extract gait data with different time frames, which can enhance the detection of rhythmic patterns and velocity variations in human gait and allow a detailed analysis of the temporal features. Furthermore, a novel pyramidal feature extraction approach is developed to analyze the inter-sensor dependencies, which can integrate features from different pathways, enhancing both temporal and spatial feature extraction. Our experimentation on diverse datasets demonstrates the effectiveness of our approach. Notably, FP-GCN achieves an impressive accuracy of 98.78% on public datasets and 96.54% on proprietary data, surpassing existing methodologies and underscoring its potential for advancing pathological gait classification. In this paper, we present an unprecedented method based on Kohonen networks that is able to automatically recognize partial discharge (PD) classes from phase-resolved partial discharge (PRPD) diagrams with features of various simultaneous PD patterns. The PRPD diagrams were obtained from the stator windings of a real-world hydro-generator rotating machine. The proposed approach integrates classification probabilities into the Kohonen method, producing self-organizing probability maps (SOPMs). For building SOPMs, a group of PRPD diagrams, each containing a single PD pattern for training the Kohonen networks and single- and multiple-class-featured samples for obtaining final SOPMs, is used to calculate the probabilities of each Kohonen neuron to be associated with the various PD classes considered. At the end of this process, a self-organizing probability map is produced. Probabilities are calculated using distances, obtained in the space of features, between neurons and samples. The so-produced SOPM enables the effective classification of PRPD samples and provides the probability that a given PD sample is associated with a PD class. Convolutional neural networks (CNNs) need to replicate feature detectors when modeling spatial information, which reduces their efficiency. The number of replicated feature detectors or labeled training data required for such methods grows exponentially with the dimensionality of the data being used. On the other hand, space-insensitive methods are difficult to encode and express effectively due to the limitation of their rich text structures. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a capsule network (self-attention capsule network, or SA-CapsNet) with a self-attention mechanism for text classification tasks, wherein the capsule network itself, given the feature with the symmetry hint on two ends, acts as both encoder and decoder. In order to learn long-distance dependent features in sentences and encode text information more efficiently, SA-CapsNet maps the self-attention module to the feature extraction layer of the capsule network, thereby increasing its feature extraction ability and overcoming the limitations of convolutional neural networks. In addition, in this study, in order to improve the accuracy of the model, the capsule was improved by reducing its dimension and an intermediate layer was added, enabling the model to obtain more expressive instantiation features in a given sentence. Finally, experiments were carried out on three general datasets of different sizes, namely the IMDB, MPQA, and MR datasets. The accuracy of the model on these three datasets was 84.72%, 80.31%, and 75.38%, respectively. Furthermore, compared with the benchmark algorithm, the model's performance on these datasets was promising, with an increase in accuracy of 1.08%, 0.39%, and 1.43%, respectively. This study focused on reducing the parameters of the model for various applications, such as edge and mobile applications. Short video hot spot classification is a fundamental method to grasp the focus of consumers and improve the effectiveness of video marketing. The limitations of traditional short text classification are sparse content as well as inconspicuous feature extraction. To solve the problems above, this paper proposes a short video hot spot classification model combining latent dirichlet allocation (LDA) feature fusion and improved bi-directional long short-term memory (BiLSTM), namely the LDA-BiLSTM-self-attention (LBSA) model, to carry out the study of hot spot classification that targets Carya cathayensis walnut short video review data under the TikTok platform. Firstly, the LDA topic model was used to expand the topic features of the Word2Vec word vector, which was then fused and input into the BiLSTM model to learn the text features. Afterwards, the self-attention mechanism was employed to endow different weights to the output information of BiLSTM in accordance with the importance, to enhance the precision of feature extraction and complete the hot spot classification of review data. Point cloud deep learning networks have been widely applied in point cloud classification, part segmentation and semantic segmentation. However, current point cloud deep learning networks are insufficient in the local feature extraction of the point cloud, which affects the accuracy of point cloud classification and segmentation. To address this issue, this paper proposes a local domain multi-level feature fusion point cloud deep learning network. First, dynamic graph convolutional operation is utilized to obtain the local neighborhood feature of the point cloud. Then, relation-shape convolution is used to extract a deeper-level edge feature of the point cloud, and max pooling is adopted to aggregate the edge features. Finally, point cloud classification and segmentation are realized based on global features and local features. We use the ModelNet40 and ShapeNet datasets to conduct the comparison experiment, which is a large-scale 3D CAD model dataset and a richly annotated, large-scale dataset of 3D shapes. For ModelNet40, the overall accuracy (OA) of the proposed method is similar to DGCNN, RS-CNN, PointConv and GAPNet, all exceeding 92%. Compared to PointNet, PointNet++, SO-Net and MSHANet, the OA of the proposed method is improved by 5%, 2%, 3% and 2.6%, respectively. For the ShapeNet dataset, the mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of the part segmentation achieved by the proposed method is 86.3%, which is 2.9%, 1.4%, 1.7%, 1.7%, 1.2%, 0.1% and 1.0% higher than PointNet, RS-Net, SCN, SPLATNet, DGCNN, RS-CNN and LRC-NET, respectively. As a convenient and natural way of human-computer interaction, gesture recognition technology has broad research and application prospects in many fields, such as intelligent perception and virtual reality. This paper summarized the relevant literature on gesture recognition using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) millimeter-wave radar from January 2015 to June 2023. In the manuscript, the widely used methods involved in data acquisition, data processing, and classification in gesture recognition were systematically investigated. This paper counts the information related to FMCW millimeter wave radar, gestures, data sets, and the methods and results in feature extraction and classification. Based on the statistical data, we provided analysis and recommendations for other researchers. Traffic accidents on the road lead to serious personal and material damage. Furthermore, preventing secondary accidents caused by traffic accidents is crucial. As various technologies for detecting traffic accidents in videos using deep learning are being researched, this paper proposes a method to classify accident videos based on a video highlight detection network. To utilize video highlight detection for traffic accident classification, we generate information using the existing traffic accident videos. Moreover, we introduce the Car Crash Highlights Dataset (CCHD). This dataset contains a variety of weather conditions, such as snow, rain, and clear skies, as well as multiple types of traffic accidents. We compare and analyze the performance of various video highlight detection networks in traffic accident detection, thereby presenting an efficient video feature extraction method according to the accident and the optimal video highlight detection network. For the first time, we have applied video highlight detection networks to the task of traffic accident classification. In the task, the most superior video highlight detection network achieves a classification performance of up to 79.26% when using video, audio, and text as inputs, compared to using video and text alone. Learning information from a single or a few samples is called few-shot learning. This learning method will solve deep learning's dependence on a large sample. Deep learning achieves few-shot learning through meta-learning: "how to learn by using previous experience". Therefore, this paper considers how the deep learning method uses meta-learning to learn and generalize from a small sample size in image classification. The main contents are as follows. Practicing learning in a wide range of tasks enables deep learning methods to use previous empirical knowledge. However, this method is subject to the quality of feature extraction and the selection of measurement methods supports set and the target set. Therefore, this paper designs a multi-scale relational network (MSRN) aiming at the above problems. The experimental results show that the simple design of the MSRN can achieve higher performance. In order to improve the accuracy of underwater object classification, according to the characteristics of sonar images, a classification method based on depthwise separable convolution feature fusion is proposed. Firstly, Markov segmentation is used to segment the highlight and shadow regions of the object to avoid the loss of information caused by simultaneous segmentation. Secondly, depthwise separable convolution is used to learn the deep information of images for feature extraction, which produces less network computation. Thirdly, features of highlight and shadow regions are fused by the parallel network structure, and pyramid pooling is added to extract the multi-scale information. Gears are the most important parts of a rotary system, and they are used for mechanical power transmission. The health monitoring of such a system is needed to observe its effective and reliable working. An approach that is based on vibration is typically utilized while carrying out fault diagnostics on a gearbox. Using the Fourier–Bessel series expansion (FBSE) as the basis for an empirical wavelet transform (EWT), a novel automated technique has been proposed in this paper, with a combination of these two approaches, i.e., FBSE-EWT. To improve the frequency resolution, the current empirical wavelet transform will be reformed utilizing the FBSE technique. The proposed novel method includes the decomposition of different levels of gear crack vibration signals into narrow-band components (NBCs) or sub-bands. The Kruskal–Wallis test is utilized to choose the features that are statistically significant in order to separate them from the sub-bands. Three classifiers are used for fault classification, i.e., random forest, J48 decision tree classifiers, and multilayer perceptron function classifier. In this paper, we demonstrate that fixed-weight layers generated from random distribution or logistic functions can effectively extract significant features from input data, resulting in high accuracy on a variety of tasks, including Fisher's Iris, Wisconsin Breast Cancer, and MNIST datasets. We have observed that logistic functions yield high accuracy with less dispersion in results. We have also assessed the precision of our approach under conditions of minimizing the number of spikes generated in the network. It is practically useful for reducing energy consumption in spiking neural networks. Our findings reveal that the proposed method demonstrates the highest accuracy on Fisher's iris and MNIST datasets with decoding using logistic regression. A brain stroke is a life-threatening medical disorder caused by the inadequate blood supply to the brain. After the stroke, the damaged area of the brain will not operate normally. As a result, early detection is crucial for more effective therapy. Computed tomography (CT) images supply a rapid diagnosis of brain stroke. However, while doctors are analyzing each brain CT image, time is running fast. This circumstance may lead to result in a delay in treatment and making errors. Therefore, we targeted the utilization of an efficient artificial intelligence algorithm in stroke detection. In this paper, we designed hybrid algorithms that include a new convolution neural networks (CNN) architecture called OzNet and various machine learning algorithms for binary classification of real brain stroke CT images. When we classified the dataset with OzNet, we acquired successful performance. However, for this target, we combined it with a minimum Redundancy Maximum Relevance (mRMR) method and Decision Tree (DT), k-Nearest Neighbors (kNN), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Naïve Bayes (NB), and Support Vector Machines (SVM). In addition, 4096 significant features were obtained from the fully connected layer of OzNet, and we reduced the dimension of features from 4096 to 250 using the mRMR method. Finally, we utilized these machine learning algorithms to classify important features. In order to categorize feature classes by capturing subtle differences, hyperspectral images (HSIs) have been extensively used due to the rich spectral-spatial information. The 3D convolution-based neural networks (3DCNNs) have been widely used in HSI classification because of their powerful feature extraction capability. However, the 3DCNN-based HSI classification approach could only extract local features, and the feature maps it produces include a lot of spatial information redundancy, which lowers the classification accuracy. To solve the above problems, we proposed a spatial attention network (SATNet) by combining 3D OctConv and ViT. Firstly, 3D OctConv divided the feature maps into high-frequency maps and low-frequency maps to reduce spatial information redundancy. Secondly, the ViT model was used to obtain global features and effectively combine local-global features for classification. Agriculture plays a vital role in Bangladesh's economy. It is essential to ensure the proper growth and health of crops for the development of the agricultural sector. In the context of Bangladesh, crop diseases pose a significant threat to agricultural output and, consequently, food security. This necessitates the timely and precise identification of such diseases to ensure the sustainability of food production. This study focuses on building a hybrid deep learning model for the identification of three specific diseases affecting three major crops: late blight in potatoes, brown spot in rice, and common rust in corn. The proposed model leverages EfficientNetB0′s feature extraction capabilities, known for achieving rapid high learning rates, coupled with the classification proficiency of SVMs, a well-established machine learning algorithm. This unified approach streamlines data processing and feature extraction, potentially improving model generalizability across diverse crops and diseases. It also aims to address the challenges of computational efficiency and accuracy that are often encountered in precision agriculture applications. The proposed hybrid model achieved 97.29% accuracy. Existing remote sensing images of ground objects are difficult to annotate, and building a hyperspectral dataset requires huge resources. To tackle these problems, this paper proposes a new method with low requirements for the scale of the dataset that involves correcting the inter-class differences of hyperspectral images and eliminating the redundant information of spatial–spectral features. Firstly, the algorithm introduces the spatial information of hyperspectral images into the classification task through the superpixel definition based on the entropy rate, which not only reduces the spatial redundancy information of hyperspectral images but also uses the similarity of spatial neighbors to increase the differences between classes and alleviate the differences within classes. Secondly, under the theoretical guidance of similar spectral fluctuation trends of similar objects, a feature extraction method based on fast Fourier transform is proposed to alleviate spectral feature redundancy and further eliminate the inter-class differences of the algorithm. Finally, to verify the improvement effect of the proposed idea on the traditional classification method, the idea was applied to the traditional SVM algorithm, and experiments were carried out based on the PaviaU and Indian Pines hyperspectral datasets. For the multi-label classification task of remote sensing images (RSIs), it is difficult to accurately extract feature information from complex land covers, and it is easy to generate redundant features by ordinary convolution extraction features. This paper proposes a multi-label classification model for multi-source RSIs that combines dense convolution and an attention mechanism. This method adds fusion channel attention and a spatial attention mechanism to each dense block module of the DenseNet, and the sigmoid activation function replaces the softmax activation function in multi-label classification. The improved model retains the main features of RSIs to the greatest extent and enhances the feature extraction of the images. The model can integrate local features, capture global dependencies, and aggregate contextual information to improve the multi-label land cover classification accuracy of RSIs. We conducted comparative experiments on the SEN12-MS and UC-Merced land cover dataset and analyzed the evaluation indicators. Determining the types of light curves has been a challenge due to the massive amount of light curves generated by large sky survey programs. In the literature, the light curves classification methods are overly dependent on the imaging quality of the light curves, so the classification results are often poor. In this paper, a new method is proposed to classify the Kepler light curves from Quarter 1, and consists of two parts: feature extraction and classification neural network construction. In the first part, features are extracted from the light curves using three different methods, and then the features are fused (transform domain features, light curve flux statistics features, and Kepler photometry features). In the second part, a classification neural network RLNet, based on Residual Network (ResNet) and Long Short Term Memory (LSTM), is proposed. The experiment involved the classification of approximately 150,000 Kepler light curves into 11 categories. The results show that this new method outperforms seven other methods in all metrics, with an accuracy of 0.987, a minimum recall of 0.968, and a minimum precision of 0.970 under all categories. Electrical activities of the human brain can be recorded with electroencephalography (EEG). To characterize motor imagery (MI) tasks for brain–computer interface (BCI) implementation is an easy and cost-effective tool. The MI task is represented by a short-time trial of multichannel EEG. In this paper, the signal of each channel of raw EEG is decomposed into a finite set of narrowband signals using a Fourier-transformation-based bandpass filter. Rhythmic components of EEG are represented by each of the narrowband signals that characterize the brain activities related to MI tasks. The subband signals are arranged to extend the dimension of the EEG trial in the spatial domain. The spatial features are extracted from the set of extended trials using a common spatial pattern (CSP). An optimum number of features are employed to classify the motor imagery tasks using an artificial neural network. An integrated approach with full-band and narrowband signals is implemented to derive discriminative features for MI classification. In addition, the subject-dependent parameter optimization scheme enhances the performance of the proposed method. The performance evaluation of the proposed method is obtained using two publicly available benchmark datasets (Dataset I and Dataset II). The experimental results in terms of classification accuracy (93.88% with Dataset I and 91.55% with Dataset II) show that it performs better than the recently developed algorithms. Visual question answering (VQA) is a task that generates or predicts an answer to a question in human language about visual images. VQA is an active field combining two AI branches: NLP and computer vision. VQA in the medical field is still at an early stage, and it needs vast efforts and exploration to reach practical usage. This paper proposes two models that are utilized in the latest vision and NLP transformers that outperform the SOTA and have not yet been utilized in medical VQA. The ELECTRA-base transformer is used for textual feature extraction, whereas SWIN is used for visual feature extraction. In the SOTA medical VQA, selecting the model is based on the model that achieves the highest validation accuracy or the last model in training. The first proposed model, the best-value-based model, is selected based on the highest validation accuracy. The second model, the greedy-soup-based model, uses a greedy soup technique based on the fusion of multiple fine-tuned models to set the model parameters. The greedy soup selects the model parameters by fusing the model parameters that have significant performance on the validation accuracy in training. The greedy-soup-based model outperforms the best-value-based model, and both proposed models outperform the SOTA, which has an accuracy of 83.49%. The greedy-soup-based model is optimized with batch size and learning rate. During the optimization, seven extra models exceed the SOTA accuracy. With the continuous advancement of remote sensing technology, the semantic segmentation of different ground objects in remote sensing images has become an active research topic. For complex and diverse remote sensing imagery, deep learning methods have the ability to automatically discern features from image data and capture intricate spatial dependencies, thus outperforming traditional image segmentation methods. To address the problems of low segmentation accuracy in remote sensing image semantic segmentation, this paper proposes a new remote sensing image semantic segmentation network, RSLC-Deeplab, based on DeeplabV3+. Firstly, ResNet-50 is used as the backbone feature extraction network, which can extract deep semantic information more effectively and improve the segmentation accuracy. Secondly, the coordinate attention (CA) mechanism is introduced into the model to improve the feature representation generated by the network by embedding position information into the channel attention mechanism, effectively capturing the relationship between position information and channels. Finally, a multi-level feature fusion (MFF) module based on asymmetric convolution is proposed, which captures and refines low-level spatial features using asymmetric convolution and then fuses them with high-level abstract features to mitigate the influence of background noise and restore the lost detailed information in deep features. The experimental results on the WHDLD dataset show that the mean intersection over union (mIoU) of RSLC-Deeplab reached 72.63%, the pixel accuracy (PA) reached 83.49%, and the mean pixel accuracy (mPA) reached 83.72%. The pandemic coronavirus COVID-19 spread around the world with deaths exceeding that of SARS. COVID-19 is believed to have been transmitted from animals, especially from bats, and the virus is transmitted from person to person over time. This paper will help countries to make decisions that encourage access to corrected values and get some indication as to whether there are other factors that affect the spread of COVID-19, via methods such as by increasing the daily test rate. This paper presents an intelligent model for analyzing data collected from the countries affected by the COVID-19 virus. It considers the total number of tests that each country has undergone, the number of international tourist arrivals in each country, the percentage of employment, the life expectancy at birth, the median age, the population density, the number of people aged 65 years or older in millions, and the sex ratio. The proposed model is based on machine learning approaches using k-Means as a clustering approach, Support Vector Machine (SVM) as a classifier, and wrapper as a feature extraction approach. It consists of three phases of pre-processing the data collected, the discovery of outlier cases, the selection of the most effective features for each of the total infected, deaths, critical and recovery cases, and the construction of prediction models. Experimental results show that the extracted features of the wrapper technique have shown that it is more capable of fitting and predicting data than the Correlation-Based Feature Selection, Correlation Attribute Evaluation, Information Gain, and Relief Attribute Evaluation techniques. Power quality disturbances (PQD) have a negative impact on power quality-sensitive equipment, often resulting in great financial losses. To prevent these losses, besides detecting a PQD on time, it is important to classify it, so that appropriate recovery procedures are employed. The majority of research employs machine learning model PQD classifiers on manually extracted features from simulated or real-world signals. We developed a configurable voltage sag generator that was used to form training and validation datasets. Based on the synthetic three-phase voltage signals, we trained several end-to-end LSTM classifiers that classify voltage sags according to ABC classification. Arrhythmias are defined as irregularities in the heartbeat rhythm, which may infrequently occur in a human's life. These arrhythmias may cause potentially fatal complications, which may lead to an immediate risk of life. Thus, the detection and classification of arrhythmias is a pertinent issue for cardiac diagnosis. (1) Background: To capture these sporadic events, an electrocardiogram (ECG), a register containing the heart's electrical function, is considered the gold standard. However, since ECG carries a vast amount of information, it becomes very complex and challenging to extract the relevant information from visual analysis. As a result, designing an efficient (automated) system to analyse the enormous quantity of data possessed by ECG is critical. (2) Method: This paper proposes a hybrid deep learning-based approach to automate the detection and classification process. This paper makes two-fold contributions. First, 1D ECG signals are translated into 2D Scalogram images to automate the noise filtering and feature extraction. Then, based on experimental evidence, by combining two learning models, namely 2D convolutional neural network (CNN) and the Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, a hybrid model called 2D-CNN-LSTM is proposed. (3) Result: To evaluate the efficacy of the proposed 2D-CNN-LSTM approach, we conducted a rigorous experimental study using the widely adopted MIT–BIH arrhythmia database. The obtained results show that the proposed approach provides ≈98.7%, 99%, and 99% accuracy for Cardiac Arrhythmias (ARR), Congestive Heart Failure (CHF), and Normal Sinus Rhythm (NSR), respectively. Moreover, it provides an average sensitivity of the proposed model of 98.33% and a specificity value of 98.35%, for all three arrhythmias. (4) Conclusions: For the classification of arrhythmias, a robust approach has been introduced where 2 D scalogram images of ECG signals are trained over the CNN-LSTM model. The results obtained are better as compared to the other existing techniques and will greatly reduce the amount of intervention required by doctors. The current advancement towards retinal disease detection mainly focused on distinct feature extraction using either a convolutional neural network (CNN) or a transformer-based end-to-end deep learning (DL) model. The individual end-to-end DL models are capable of only processing texture or shape-based information for performing detection tasks. However, extraction of only texture- or shape-based features does not provide the model robustness needed to classify different types of retinal diseases. Therefore, concerning these two features, this paper developed a fusion model called 'Conv-ViT' to detect retinal diseases from foveal cut optical coherence tomography (OCT) images. The transfer learning-based CNN models, such as Inception-V3 and ResNet-50, are utilized to process texture information by calculating the correlation of the nearby pixel. Additionally, the vision transformer model is fused to process shape-based features by determining the correlation between long-distance pixels. The hybridization of these three models results in shape-based texture feature learning during the classification of retinal diseases into its four classes, including choroidal neovascularization (CNV), diabetic macular edema (DME), DRUSEN, and NORMAL. The weighted average classification accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score of the model are found to be approximately 94%. The results indicate that the fusion of both texture and shape features assisted the proposed Conv-ViT model to outperform the state-of-the-art retinal disease classification models. The prognosis of patients with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is greatly improved by an early and accurate diagnosis. Several studies have created automated methods to forecast PDAC development utilising various medical imaging modalities. These papers give a general overview of the classification, segmentation, or grading of many cancer types utilising conventional machine learning techniques and hand-engineered characteristics, including pancreatic cancer. This study uses cutting-edge deep learning techniques to identify PDAC utilising computerised tomography (CT) medical imaging modalities. This work suggests that the hybrid model VGG16–XGBoost (VGG16—backbone feature extractor and Extreme Gradient Boosting—classifier) for PDAC images. According to studies, the proposed hybrid model performs better, obtaining an accuracy of 0.97 and a weighted F1 score of 0.97 for the dataset under study. The experimental validation of the VGG16–XGBoost model uses the Cancer Imaging Archive (TCIA) public access dataset, which has pancreas CT images. The results of this study can be extremely helpful for PDAC diagnosis from computerised tomography (CT) pancreas images, categorising them into five different tumours (T), node (N), and metastases (M) (TNM) staging system class labels, which are T0, T1, T2, T3, and T4. In the era of big data, feature engineering has proved its efficiency and importance in dimensionality reduction and useful information extraction from original features. Feature engineering can be expressed as dimensionality reduction and is divided into two types of methods, namely, feature selection and feature extraction. Each method has its pros and cons. There are a lot of studies that combine these methods. The sparse autoencoder (SAE) is a representative deep feature learning method that combines feature selection with feature extraction. However, existing SAEs do not consider feature importance during training. It causes extracting irrelevant information. In this paper, we propose an interactive guiding sparse autoencoder (IGSAE) to guide the information by two interactive guiding layers and sparsity constraints. The interactive guiding layers keep the main distribution using Wasserstein distance, which is a metric of distribution difference, and it suppresses the leverage of guiding features to prevent overfitting. We perform our experiments using four datasets that have different dimensionalities and numbers of samples.
