Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are widely used for their excellent antimicrobial properties, yet their release into aquatic environments pose risks to ecosystems and public health. The accurate monitoring and analysis of FQs present challenges due to their low concentrations and the complex matrices found in actual environmental samples. To address the need for auto-pretreatment and on-line instrumental analysis, developing new microextraction materials and protocols is crucial. Such advancements will provide better analytical assurance for the effective extraction and determination of FQs at trace levels, which is of great significance to environmental protection and human health. In this work, we presented a Co2+ mediated paper-based molecularly imprinted polymer chip (CMC@Co-MIP), combined with UPLC analysis, to develop an effective analytical method for identifying and quantifying trace amounts of ciprofloxacin (CIP) and enrofloxacin (ENR) in water samples. Notably, the addition of Co2+ in CMC@Co-MIP helped to capture the template molecule CIP through coordination before imprinting, which significantly improved the ordering of the imprinted cavities. CMC@Co-MIP exhibited a maximum adsorption capacity up to 500.20 mg g−1 with an imprinting factor of 4.12, surpassing previous reports by a significant margin. Furthermore, the enrichment mechanism was extensively analyzed by various characterization techniques. The developed method showed excellent repeatability and reproducibility (RSD < 13.0 %) with detection limits ranging from 0.15 to 0.21 μg L−1 and recoveries ranging from 64.9 % to 102.3 % in real spiked water samples. We developed a novel microextraction paper-based chip based on Co2+ mediation, which effectively improved the selectivity and convenience of extracting FQs. This breakthrough allowed the chip to have a high enrichment efficiency as well as provide a robust on-line instrumental program. Honey peach (Prunus persica) is easy to rot after picking because of its special property, and the damage of traditional preservation method to the ecological environment is unacceptable. Therefore, chitosan as a kind of environmental protection material with excellent performance has attracted people's attention. Though chitosan has good practicability, its application in practical production is limited due to its poor water solubility. In this study, we prepared phenolic acid- g -chitosan using two synthesis methods of carbodiimide-mediated coupling reaction and free radical-mediated grafting procedure. After comparing the grafting rates of these conjugates, the results showed that using the synthetic method of carbodiimide-mediated coupling reaction through NHS and EDC as the coupling agent to graft phenolic acid onto chitosan had a good grafting ratio at a molar ratio of 1.5:1. Therefore, six phenolic acids were used for the first time to prepare conjugates through this method, and these conjugates were characterized by UV and NMR. It can significantly improve the water solubility and DPPH scavenging activity of chitosan, thus releasing its good properties and meeting the application of post-harvest preservation of honey peaches. The results indicate the antisepsis and fresh-keeping effects of six conjugates showed that preservative paper containing 2-Hydroxyphenylacetic acid- g -CS has the best effect of inhibited decay index and weight loss when peach fruits were stored at 20 ± 5 °C under 40%–60% humidity for 8 days. For this purpose, GQDs are functionalized by various organic species including cysteamine, decanethiol, and mercaptopropionic acid (MPA) towards specific electrostatic interaction with metal ions of Fe (II), Cu (II), Co(II), Hg (II), Mn (II), and Ni (II). Therefore, an innovative GQDs-based miniaturized chemo-system was proposed for the environmental analysis. Additionally, the results were confirmed using fluorescence spectrometry as an optical detection method. Finally, this simple and efficient colorimetric platform was used for facile metal ions detection in human urine models, and environmental fluids, which can provide a commercial device for sensing contaminants by non-professional users in biomedical/environmental mixture. Heavy metals, like iron and chromium(Cr), have been proved to be a serious pollutant to environmental and biological systems. Long-term exposure to Cr(VI) ions through drinking water is harmful to human and will cause some serious diseases. Therefore, exploring new method for selective and rapid detection of such specific pollutants in water is crucial for environmental protection and human health. Herein, a novel functional metal organic gel(MOG) was successfully fabricated. Its detection limit of Cr(VI) was 2.4 × 10−8 mol·L−1 in aqueous solution, and 1.2 × 10−6 mol·L−1 for Fe(III) Based on the excellent deformability of MOG materials, a fluorescent test paper which could realize visible detection of Cr(VI) was fabricated by the in situ growth of Zn-MOGs onto the filter paper. This study reports the synthesis of functional graphene quantum dots (GQDs) through the thermal pyrolysis of D-penicillamine (DPA) and citric acid towards water treatment. For the first time, a novel type of highly fluorescent probe for selective Cu2+ detection among 26 types of metal ions which considerably enhance the fluorescence intensity of GQD. Furthermore, the recognition effects can be strengthen addition of amino acids owing to raise the electron density of the system and boos the accumulation profile of the sensing molecules. This simple fluorescent probe was applied for facile metal ions recognition in human urine samples, as well as environmental fluids. The proposed DPA-GQDs supported amino acids respond to Cu2+, Hg2+, and Fe3+, with high sensitivity. The intensity of the fluorescence histogram of this probe significantly diminished in exposure to metal ions such as, Cu(II), Hg(II), and Fe(III). Moreover, in our work, microfluidic paper-based (µPADs) was fabricated through a facile and a cost-effective method. Cu2+ can selectively be recognized by GQD-DPA on the paper-based sensors by naked-eye. The functionalized DPA-GQDs is an excellent alternative to previously reported fluorescent probes for sensing, bio-labeling, and other biological usages in aqueous solution. Its nitrogen and oxygen-rich groups can coordinate with Cu2+ and cause to an apparent fluorescence quenching by the non-radiative electron-transmission. The technique presented in this paper is economical and simple in design, and provides a "mix-and-sense" protocol with no need to chemical- or dye-modifications. Our proposed Cu2+ sensing probe exhibits linear response in the concentrations ranging from 0.001 ppm to 5 ppm, with a lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) of 0.1 ppm in both environmental fluids, and human urine samples. An innovative thermal-sensitive ink has been developed and thoroughly tested on polyester fabric. Unlike conventional methods, this new ink eliminates the need for chemical pretreatment and post-printing washing of the fabric before or after printing. It utilizes high-temperature disperse dyes and a biodegradable carrier molecule called a triblock copolymer, specifically Poly(ε-caprolactone-lactic acid)-poly(ethylene glycol)-poly(ε-caprolactone-lactic acid) (PCLA-PEG-PCLA). This remarkable copolymer comprises dihydroxy polyethylene glycol (PEG), ε-caprolactone (CL), and L‐lactide (LA). Upon contact with a heated surface, such as a fiber or textile, the ink droplets swiftly transition rapidly, transforming into a gel-like state. This transition enhances the ink's viscosity, effectively preventing undesired spreading and resulting in precise edge definition on the fabric. To comprehensively evaluate the performance of polyester fabric printed with this innovative ink, a series of meticulous evaluations have been conducted. These evaluations encompass pH levels, particle size, surface tension, viscosity, ink droplet formation, as well as real-time photo-rheological and LF‐NMR analyses conducted on the surface of the polyester fabric. The newly developed inks demonstrate exceptional effectiveness and are highly suitable for digital printing applications across various materials. The results revealed our new strategy (μ PADs) for the colorimetric recognition of mercury and copper ions, in both urine and aqueous samples, is selective, simple, fast, sensitive, quantitative, cost-effective, and eco-friendly, which can be detected by naked eye through color alternation with LLOQ of 0.001 ppm for Hg2+, and 0.02 ppm for Cu2+ with admirable stability. With the increasing concerns of food safety and environmental protection, it is desirable to develop reliable, effective, and portable sensors for detection of organophosphorus pesticides (OPs). Here, a cascade reaction system integrated with threaded 3D microfluidic paper analytical device (3D μPAD) was firstly developed for background-free and visual detection of OPs in agricultural samples. Butyrylcholinesterase (BChE) hydrolyzed acetylcholine into thiocholine (TCh), which reduced MnO 2 nanosheets into Mn2+. With addition of OPs, BChE activity was irreversibly inhibited, and the generation of TCh and the reduction of MnO 2 nanosheets were prevented. Then the remaining MnO 2 nanosheets oxidized o -phenylenediamine into 2,3-diaminophenazine with yellow-emission fluorescence, which quenched the fluorescence intensity of red-emission carbon dots (RCDs) via inner-filter effect. Based on above mechanism, a ratiometric fluorescent system was established for OPs detection. Threaded 3D μPAD consisted of 4 layers, which allowed to load and/or add reagents to trigger the cascade reaction system for OPs detection. The fluorescent images presented distinguishable color variations from red to yellow with dichlorvos concentrations ranging from 2.5 to 120 μg L−1, and the limit of detection was 1.0 μg L−1. In the practical samples testing, threaded 3D μPAD can eliminate background influence on fluorescent signal for OPs detection. Threaded 3D μPAD integrated with ratiometric sensing platform has merits of accuracy response, facile operation, and background-free detection, which supplies a new alternative approach for on-site pesticide detection. In the paper industry, adding fillers can replace plant fibers in pulp, which is beneficial to environmental protection and cost reduction. However, the large-scale use of inorganic fillers can interfere with interfiber bonding, thereby affecting the physical properties of paper. Due to the loss of fillers and paper fibers, the pollution of paper machine white water is aggravated. In order to improve the above situation, diatomite was used as the matrix and modified by Al(OH) 3 in-situ precipitation. In this study, modified diatomite was used as a papermaking filler. Paper properties, retention and the chemical oxygen demand in papermaking wastewater were also evaluated. The results show that, compared with the blank control, the modified diatomite filler could effectively improve the retention rate and reduce the pollution of paper machine white water while maintaining the physical strength of the paper. Among them, the fiber retention rate of pulp raw material could reach 98.05% and the chemical oxygen demand content of paper machine white water was 30.10 mg L−1. Ports are essential and strategic nodes of international trade and economic activities. The integration of port resources helps enhance the optimal division of port functions to further promote economic development. This paper explores the evolutionary trends of port integration policy from 2011 to 2021 in China through a text-mining approach. We first used the Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic analysis method to analyze the port integration policies and summarize the evolutionary trends of port policies. In addition, an association analysis was conducted to explore port integration policies' impacts by examining their relationships among the environmental protection, digitalization level, and port development scale. Our findings suggested that China's port integration policy has evolved from specific and simple to abstract and complicated at the managerial level. Port development has enriched from infrastructure construction to the ideology of economic development. Our findings show that China's port integration is gradually improving the port operation. • A distribution dynamics approach is employed to examine the converge of TFEE across Chinese PAA level cities. • The findings show a clear convergence in TFEE. • Convergence comes more from efficiency drops in high TFEE cities than from efficiency gains in low TFEE cities. • The environmental protection polices in key cities improved energy efficiency. • Large-sized cities show better performance in energy efficiency than small- and medium-sized cities. Improving energy efficiency is considered the most direct route to reducing carbon emissions on a massive scale. To examine the long-run trend of China's energy efficiency, this paper employs a distribution dynamics approach to analyze the convergence of total-factor energy efficiency (TFEE) across 286 Chinese cities between 2002 and 2014. The result suggests the existence of convergence, which comes more from the efficiency declines in the high TFEE cities rather than the efficiency gains in the low TFEE cities. Despite the fact that a few cities have performed well in energy efficiency, the majority of cities have converged to a low-efficiency point. Further analyses show that the inefficiency was attributed to inefficient energy use in small- and medium-sized cities. In the context of significant environmental changes, the urgency of adopting green innovation has become increasingly apparent as a central mechanism for adjusting industrial structures in China. This transition serves not only as a crucial way to address pressing environmental challenges, but also as a fundamental strategy to improve the ecological efficiency of urban areas. Existing research mainly keeps a close eye on the unidirectional relationship between variables such as technological innovation and environmental protection. There is less relevant literature that has researched the cointegration relationship among green innovation, industrial structure, and eco-efficiency of cities. The essential role of green innovation and industrial structure in reaching a higher eco-efficiency of city are discussed in this research and the relationship among these three variables are analyzed by the evidence from cities in China from 2011 to 2019. The fact that the variables are cointegrated in the long run is evidenced by the results for the full sample. The sub-sample results report that in the eastern region, green innovation, industrial structure upgrading, and industrial structure rationalization could improve urban eco-efficiency. However, in Midwest regions where economic development is relatively backward, green innovation's effect on urban eco-efficiency is not in a significant positive way. The results obtained in this paper have implications for different cities in China to formulate corresponding policies on green innovation, industrial structure, and urban eco-efficiency. Realizing environmental protection and employment stability when facing strict environmental regulations is an essential issue of concern for many developing countries, including China. Based on a dataset of Chinese listed companies and a dataset of Chinese individual labor-force surveys, this paper uses an estimation technique pairing propensity score matching with a difference-in-differences estimator to examine the impact of the new Environmental Protection Law (EPL) on the supply and demand of labor at the micro level and the reallocation effect of interindustry labor at the macro level. The results show that the new EPL generated employment losses at the micro level. The policy reduces firms' labor demand by lowering firms' output and total investment expenditures and, in the process, does not stimulate firms' innovative behavior. Moreover, implementing the new EPL reduces the wage income of workers, which in turn reduces the labor supply. Conversely, at the macro level, the new EPL promotes the transfer of labor from polluting to cleaner industries, realizes the reallocation of labor between industries, and thus promotes the transformation and upgrading of regional industrial structure. • A review with over 300 references on the utilization of challenging ashes. • Metal and phosphorus recovery from different ashes was addressed. • The key beneficial properties of biomass and MSW ashes were identified. In line with the objectives of the circular economy, the conversion of waste streams to useful and valuable side streams is a central goal. Ash represents one of the main industrial side-products, and using ashes in other than the present landfilling applications is, therefore, a high priority. This paper reviews the properties and utilization of ashes of different biomass power plants and waste incinerations, with a focus on the past decade. Possibilities for ash utilization are of uttermost importance in terms of circular economy and disposal of landfills. However, considering its applicability, ash originating from the heat treatment of chemically complex fuels, such as biomass and waste poses several challenges such as high heavy metal content and the presence of toxic and/or corrosive species. Furthermore, the physical properties of the ash might limit its usability. Nevertheless, numerous studies addressing the utilization possibilities of challenging ash in various applications have been carried out over the past decade. This review, with over 300 references, surveys the field of research, focusing on the utilization of biomass and municipal solid waste (MSW) ashes. Also, metal and phosphorus recovery from different ashes is addressed. It can be concluded that the key beneficial properties of the ash types addressed in this review are based on their i) alkaline nature suitable for neutralization reactions, ii) high adsorption capabilities to be used in CO 2 capture and waste treatment, and iii) large surface area and appropriate chemical composition for the catalyst industry. Climate change and the resulting extreme weather events bring significant economic losses and many unstable factors. It is an important means to actively seek environmental protection and climate governance countermeasures to meet severe challenges. As an environmental protection tool widely used by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), environmental taxes are expected to play an important role in combating climate change and reducing extreme weather events. Based on public goods theory, collective cooperation theory, externality theory and double dividend theory of environmental taxes, this paper takes 36 OECD countries as research samples and empirically tests the role of environmental taxes in mitigating climate change process and reducing extreme weather events through the establishment of panel Auto-Regressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model. The empirical results show that the environmental taxes on the whole is conducive to reducing the frequency of abnormal temperature weather and plays a positive role in reducing carbon dioxide emissions in OECD countries. Further research shows that environmental budget and environmental technologies play a positive role in the process of environmental taxes to delay climate change and reduce extreme weather events. In other words, we should attach importance to the investment of environmental protection funds and the research and development of environmental protection technology while carrying out environmental taxes. The robustness test shows that the main regression results of this paper have strong robustness. The research in this paper enriches theories and existing literature related to environmental taxes and climate change, and provides new research ideas and policy guidance for delaying the process of climate change and responding to extreme weather events. CEO statements from CSR (corporate social responsibility) reports serve as an important channel to promote the positive image of a company. It is critical for CEOs to take a positive stance to address the company's strategy to stakeholders. This paper examines grammatical stance constructions that US and Chinese Global Fortune 500 companies employed for establishing a responsible image in CEO statements. Based on 50 US and 50 Chinese CEO statements, the present paper investigates how CEOs use attitudinal, epistemic, and modality stance constructions to introduce their strategies for social responsibility. The findings of the study show that US CEO statements use significantly more attitudinal and epistemic stance constructions than Chinese CEO statements, indicating an affective stance taken by US CEOs. In addition, Chinese CEOs employ stance strategies focusing more on the companies' competence of environmental protection and self-improvement that conforms to the government policy. By contrast, US CEOs tend to actively present CSR participation in a wider range of social benevolence activities. The present study thus contributes to the increasing scholarly attention to CSR as well as to the understanding of different institutional practice across cultures. In this paper, a detailed review of the numerical modeling techniques that have been applied in the field of Standing Wave Thermoacoustic Devices (SWTAD) is carried out. At first, a brief review of analytical method is presented and the need for numerical modeling is highlighted. Numerical modeling techniques ranging from simplified linear to detailed Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models are reviewed in detail. Model configurations, capabilities and tools developed and utilized so far in the research area are summarized. Challenges associated with SWTAD and applications modeled using CFD are discussed. Supersaturation of dissolved gas in water will cause fish to suffer from gas bubble diseases and even death. Therefore, it is imperative to illustrate the dissipation process of dissolved gas and then seek measures to remit the negative effects of dissolved gas supersaturation on fish. Generally, adding solid media (SM) to water has proven to be an effective and economical way to remove supersaturated dissolved gas from aquaculture water. While, the supersaturated dissolved gas dissipation framework in solid media containing water was still unclear. In this paper, combined with laboratory experiments and research available in the literature, the dissipation framework of dissolved gas was proposed along with the calculation of the liquid gas interfacial transfer mass, solid wall adsorption mass, porous media adsorption mass, and inner dissipation mass. The solid wall adsorption coefficient was found to follow a power function of the contact angle, and the porous adsorption coefficient logarithmically increased with the specific surface area. It was found that the inner dissipation coefficient exponentially increased with increasing total dissipation coefficient. Utilizing an approximation algorithm method, a model for the prediction of the dissipation coefficient was established. The research reported in this paper could contribute to enriching the research field of supersaturated dissolved dissipation and is significant for ecological and environmental protection. The aim of this paper is to show the concise chemico-physical adsorbent performance of water purification systems utilizing geo- (e.g., allophane, clinoptilolite, and smectite) and bio-polymer materials (e.g., chitosan or cellulose nanocomposite materials) and to propose an optimal ground-water remediation technique. The performance of geo-materials is evaluated based on the individual sorption and immobilization capacities for various priority substances and pollutants (e.g., lead, zinc, cadmium, copper, arsenic, and others), their availability, and cost-efficient use. A systematic assessment of the sorption potential of geo-materials in comparison to other available sorbents used for the removal of harmful aqueous metal ions is made through a literature review. This paper introduces novel sustainable technologies based on natural and tailored silicate-polymerized substances (geo-materials and geopolymers), and highlights their applicability in the treatment of water and solid matter contaminated by heavy metal ions. The advantages of geo-materials and geopolymers over other commercially available sorbents used for heavy metal ion removal from solution are presented through a literature review. Benefits and current challenges of geo-materials and geopolymers applications in water processing technologies and in environmental remediation are discussed, with recognition of their performance, individual sorption and immobilization capacities, availability, and cost-efficient use. The applications described here comprise: (i) the removal of heavy metal ions from contaminated water using in-situ remediation strategies; (ii) heavy metal ion immobilization through co-precipitation with silicate binders in underground stabilization and waste solidification scenarios; and (iii) a proposal for a new geo-material/geopolymer-based solidification and stabilization technology for efficient, sustainable, and simultaneous treatment of soil/sediment and groundwater at environmental hotspots. Clay-substituted geopolymers, smectite, and zeolites are distinguished by their superb sorption and immobilization capacities for heavy metal ions, while biosorbents can play an important role in the removal of metals, metalloids (e.g., arsenic), and other contaminants. More research on individual removal mechanisms of heavy metals will provide new clues on the development of remediation strategies in advanced scientific and field applications, and on atomic-to-micron scale processes occurring at the solid–liquid interface. The development of predictive models that can accurately predict the results of different conservation measures is essential for the success of these conservation efforts. This paper's objective is to create a Machine Learning (ML) model that predicts how environmental changes can unfold. This prediction helps in proactive monitoring and conservation planning, considering factors like deforestation, air pollution, sea level rise, temperature shifts, and forest preservation. The model relies on machine learning techniques, including AdaBoost, ETS, Prophet, SARIMA, LightGBM, and TL-BLSTM models, to analyze data, uncover trends, and inform decision-making. The shortage of fossil energy and the aggravation of environmental pollution have led to stricter requirements for energy conservation and environmental protection of automobiles. The development of new energy vehicles still needs time and space. The internal combustion engine is still the power source that automobiles will need to rely on in the future. Lean combustion is one of the key research directions for efficient and clean combustion technology for gasoline engines. In this paper, the effects of high-energy ignition coupling hydrogen blending on the combustion stability of lean-burn gasoline engines were studied by means of multi-point high-energy ignition and gasoline/hydrogen double direct injection. Through the combination of gasoline and hydrogen injection timing, a suitable stratified mixture can be formed in the cylinder. Combined with high-energy ignition, the fire core can be formed smoothly, and the flame spreads rapidly. The introduction of hydrogen increases the concentration of H in the reaction system, enhances the activity of the reaction system, and accelerates the oxidation process of fuel molecules. Compared with a pure gasoline engine, hydrogen blending can expand the lean burn limit by 66.2% and increase ITE (Indicated Thermal Efficiency) by 6.5%. NO x emission increases first and then decreases with the increase in excess air ratio, but when λ > 1.6, NO x emission is much lower than that of the equivalence ratio condition. Nowadays, internet public participation has become a powerful tool to supervise the pollution activities of the enterprises. However, fewer studies have focused on the effect of internet public participation on environmental protection. Thus, this paper use network platform data (Sina Weibo and Baidu) from 2013 to 2018 to test whether internet public participation can help control environmental pollution emissions. Firstly, this paper selects the number of micro-blogs with the Chinese keywords "environmental protection", "haze", "water pollution", "air pollution" and their Baidu index to describe the level of internet public participation. Secondly, the effect of the internet public participation on four environmental pollutants including industrial sulfur dioxide, industrial soot, industrial wastewater and industrial solid waste are explored using the mediating effect model. In addition, we have examined the government's intermediary effect on environmental pollutants emission. The study found that the internet public participation can significantly (p ≤ 0.05) reduce the discharge of the industrial waste water. In addition, the mediating effect of government is significant (p ≤ 0.05) on pollutant emissions. Dust control is of great significance to industrial process safety and environmental protection. Wet dust reduction is the most commonly used dust control technology, and the physical and chemical properties of water are closely related to its dust reduction ability. In order to improve dust reduction efficiency, scholars have done much fruitful work in the physical and chemical modification of water. It is essential to summarize the progress of this research direction and shows what is lacking at present in recent years. This paper reviews the research progress on improving the performance of water for dust reduction by physical and chemical methods in the past ten years. The physical methods are mainly adopted to improve dust reduction performance in spray technologies, which include air atomization, ultrasonic atomization, magnetized water and water mist charging. And the chemical methods are mainly used to prepare dust suppression materials, which can be distinguished by single-phase dust suppressants and gas-liquid two-phase dust suppression foam. In this paper, we analyze the advantages as well as disadvantages of various methods and point out the unresolved issues. The objective of this paper is to explore how environmental protection expenditures (EPE) affect innovation and investigate the potential causal relationship between the two variables. The novelty and main contribution of our paper to the literature stems from the fact that we look at total environmental protection expenditures from both the public and private sectors, and distinguishing between corporations and households in the private sectors. We also consider both inputs and outputs of innovation and address potential endogeneity issues in this relationship, which are both lacking in the current literature. Using a panel of EU countries over the period 2006–2020, this study generally finds a positive impact of EPE on innovation after controlling for the effects of trade, credit, education and inflation on innovation, and using the System GMM estimator to treat endogeneity. Moreover, EPE from the government sector drives the bulk of this positive impact. The core results are robust to alternative measures of innovation, alternative estimation techniques that address endogeneity (i.e., the Lewbel 2SLS, Mundlak, and Hausman-Taylor estimators) and the moderation effects of Climate Change Performance (CCPI). Previous research has paid little attention to the multiple meanings of the concept of forest restoration. To gain a more comprehensive view of forest restoration, this paper compares the US forest restoration debate of the 1940s and 1990s, in the disciplines of ecology and forestry. The paper focuses on historical approaches to pasts and futures, and on "sociotechnical imaginaries" providing societal legitimacy to restoration ventures. Historical scientific papers constitute the paper's empirical sources. The analysis shows that, among ecologists and foresters, forest restoration of the 1940s was oriented towards efficiency and challenges such as wood demands during World War II, whereas restoration of the 1990s was oriented towards conservation and environmental challenges. The approaches of the 1940s′ ecologists and foresters seem motivated by a sociotechnical imaginary connecting forest restoration to societal progress , whereas the approaches of their 1990s′ counterparts seem motivated by a sociotechnical imaginary connecting forest restoration to the task of mitigating society's impacts. Drawing from Peck and Tickell's (2002) theory of roll-back and roll-out neoliberalism and Brenner et al.'s (2010) theory of variegated neoliberalism, this paper uses comparative historical analysis to understand how the state of Wisconsin suppressed its legacy of progressive environmentalism and embraced neoliberal policy over time. Specifically, this paper examines the rapid expansion of concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) in Wisconsin's dairy industry since 1995. As these large CAFOs have grown in size, so have the social and environmental problems related to their use, including pollution of drinking water sources for rural communities. Based on analysis of newspaper articles between 1965-2010, I observed that that a turning point towards neoliberalism occurred with the demise of the Office of the Public Intervenor (OPI), a legally designated adversarial force unique to the state that was created in 1967 after a powerful coalition of environmental social movements defeated an attempt to merge the offices of development and environmental protection. Despite the continuous efforts of industry, the effort to weaken environmental regulations and institutions in Wisconsin failed not only in 1967, but in 1984 as well. However, by 1995, immediately after the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement, the state switched their support from populist environmental social movements to industry. Through deregulation, elimination of the OPI, and the gradual dissolution of environmental social movements, the state of Wisconsin created the conditions that enabled CAFOs to expand without the "burden" of environmental regulation. Subsequently, through re-regulation, Wisconsinites lost access to legal remedies that could curb polluting practices of large CAFOs. Carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions and climate change risk have become constraints on global economic sustainable development. Environmental regulation (ER) is a key method for achieving synergy in CO 2 and pollution reduction in China. This paper is the first study to explore the effects of ER on CO 2 emissions by exploiting the National Environmental Protection 11th Five-Year Plan (NEP11-FYP). The implementation of the NEP11-FYP significantly decreases CO 2 emissions by 19.73% in key environmental cities relative to other cities. Heterogeneity analyses suggest that this negative impact is larger in western cities and cities with more pressure to reduce CO 2 emissions. Scale effects, structural effects, and technical effects might be three potential influencing channels through which ER contributes to the CO 2 reduction effect. In addition, the results of the spatial externality of the NEP11-FYP demonstrate a positive spillover effect in neighboring cities within a distance of 300 km and a negative spillover effect in cities more than 500 km away. This paper analyses the interrelation between technological innovation (TI) and air quality (AQ) using the bootstrap rolling-window subsample Granger test for China. We find that TI has a twofold impact on AQ. On the one hand, TI brings better AQ. This result proves the technique effect, indicating that TI can improve AQ by directly reducing air pollutants emissions and facilitating clean energy use. On the other hand, TI can make AQ worse when TI mainly focuses on utilising fossil fuels to expand production, which proves the scale effect. In turn, AQ can also influence TI ; the direction of the influence is dependent on the severity of air pollution and the government's response. One of the challenges in the transition to a low-carbon economy is how to improve the energy and environmental performance of migrants. China has experienced rapid urbanization and a surge in domestic migration in recent years. People migrate within China are an indispensable integral part of sustainable development. Do migrants engage in environmental affairs to the same extent as the locals? Extant literatures have paid insufficient attention to this topic. This paper contributes to the understanding of differences in environmental participation among urban residents who hold varying types of household registration (namely, hukou) identity. Drawing on large-scale survey datasets and the technique of matching, the study finds that: (1) the environmental engagement of migrants is less active than those owning hukou , (2) migrants' duration of residence, household income, and the level of barriers to obtaining local hukou moderate the above relationship, and (3) the lack of social trust and sense of belonging that comes with the absence of hukou identity are channels constraining migrants' environmental involvement. Market segmentation led by "beggar-thy-neighbor" and "local protectionism" among local governments is the deep institutional reason of environmental pollution. Therefore, eliminating market barriers and accelerating regional market integration are important way to achieve green development. This paper develops a theoretical model for analyzing the relationship between market integration and air quality by introducing inter-regional trade cost and game behavior. Based on the panel data of 101 prefecture-level and above cities in the Yangtze River Economic Belt of China, we verify the effect and its mechanism of market integration on air quality. The results show that regional market integration is conducive to improving urban air quality, which is still supported by the robustness test. In terms of regional differences, market integration has a greater effect on air quality in the downstream than in the upstream and midstream. Market integration improves air quality by strengthening scale effect, accelerating industrial structure upgrading and promoting technological progress. Moreover, Environmental regulation and environmental performance assessment facilitates strengthening the air quality improvement effect of market integration. We suggest that China should continually promote market integration in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, strengthen environmental regulation, and establish a reasonable performance evaluation system, so as to build a green development linkage mechanism between environmental protection and economic growth. In the context of China's carbon peak and carbon neutrality goals (the "dual carbon" goals), balancing economic development, environmental protection, and low carbon is a high priority. Therefore, exploring the impact of digital finance on carbon dioxide (CO 2) emissions is crucial. In this paper, we select the panel data of 241 cities in China from 2011 to 2020 and use the double logarithm model after verifying model forms to explore the impact of digital finance on urban CO 2 emissions. The results show a significant negative correlation between the level of digital finance and the intensity of CO 2 emissions. Heterogeneity analysis results show that the eastern region exhibits the greatest inhibitory effect, while the western region exhibits the lowest. The three sub-dimensions of digital finance can all reduce carbon emissions, but the usage depth dimension has the greatest reduction effect, while the coverage breadth dimension is slightly lower. Through mediating effect tests from two dimensions, we find that digital finance can achieve CO 2 emission reduction by promoting scientific and technological innovation. Environmental information disclosure (EID) is a critical element of corporate disclosure that can demonstrate companies' dedication to environmental protection to stakeholders who are concerned about the environment. Using green patent data of Chinese listed companies, this paper tests the influence of EID on green innovation (GI) and the regulating role of digital transformation. Results show that EID has a positive impact on GI and that the relationship is significantly influenced by corporate digital transformation. Additionally, the moderating effect of digital transformation is more significant with high information opacity, financing dependence, and social attention. This study contributes to the literature on the perspective of firm-level voluntary information disclosure and proposes a more comprehensive logical analysis framework for the effect of EID on GI. Moreover, digital transformation can assist companies in identifying and disclosing environmental information more accurately, which increases the effectiveness of EID. Hydrogen energy, as a green new energy source, has great significance for environmental protection due to its widespread application. This article uses nonlinear dynamics theory to study the problem of hydrogen energy storage firstly, which is different from traditional methods by using simulation and experimental methods. In this paper, the bifurcation and chaos of Li-doped 6,6,12-graphyne impacted by hydrogen atoms are studied. The perturbation of 6,6,12-graphene by Li atoms is treated as the Gauss white noise. The incremental harmonic balance method (IHB) is used for drawing the amplitude-frequency response curve of the system under simple harmonic excitation. Theoretical analysis shows that the inhomogeneity of 6,6,12-graphyne stiffness can affect the system stability, which decides the actual hydrogen storage capacity of graphyne. And then simulation and experiment results confirm the results of theoretical analysis. The maximum increase hydrogen storage efficiency can be more than 10% by selecting appropriate distribution of Li atoms.The research results of this article have a certain promoting effect on the industrial application of hydrogen energy. Efficient treatment of antibiotic residue, containing a range of persistent organic compounds, is essential to ensure the protection of both the environment and human health. Supercritical water gasification technology could achieve the clean and efficient energy conversion of antibiotic residues. In this paper, a self-thermal supercritical water gasification system for antibiotic residues is developed to convert antibiotic residues to high-purity H 2 and electrical power. The system analysis results demonstrate that increasing the antibiotic residue slurry concentration, elevating the gasification reactor temperature, and optimizing the ratio of water-to-dry antibiotic residues effectively enhance system efficiency and H 2 yield within specific ranges. The H 2 yield and net electrical power at optimal operating conditions are 634.52 kg/h and 2.3 MW with 10 t/h dry antibiotic residue feeding. Meanwhile, the energy efficiency, exergy efficiency, and cold gas efficiency of the system are 61.32%, 63.05%, and 53.96%, respectively. The life cycle assessment analysis shows that the global warming potential of the system is 20.77 kg CO 2 -eq/kg H 2 with the above operating conditions. Taking into account the emission reduction impact of the system on thermal power generation, the inclusion of CO 2 capture and storage units can potentially lead to a negative global warming potential for the system. With the increasing demand for environmental protection, the recovery and reuse of fly ash has attracted more and more attention. In this paper, the fly ash based porous ceramic membrane is modified from hydrophilic to superhydrophobic successfully. Average contact angle and roll-off angle of the modified superhydrophobic fly ash based ceramic membrane are 151.3° and 11.3°, respectively. Additionally, a variety of performances of the prepared superhydrophobic fly ash based ceramic membrane are characterized. Dynamic process of droplets with different initial velocities impacting on the surface of superhydrophobic fly ash based ceramic membrane is photographed by high-speed camera. It is proved that dynamic process of droplet impacting on superhydrophobic surface includes spreading, retraction and partial rebound. Spreading, retraction and solid-liquid contact time of droplets are about 2.9 ms, 11.5 ms and 14.4 ms, respectively. The above data is almost unaffected by impact velocity of droplets. In addition, experiments show that the prepared superhydrophobic fly ash based ceramic membrane has good acid and alkali corrosion resistance, and self-cleaning performance. Based on the panel data of various daily air pollution indicators of 288 prefecture-level cities in China from January 1, 2015 to December 31,2018, this paper takes the first round of central environmental protection inspection (CEPI) as a quasi-natural experiment, and empirically analyzes its impact on urban air pollution by using multi-period difference-in-difference (DID) method. The results show that: (1) the first round of five batches of environmental inspection and two batches of "looking back" have significantly reduced the concentration of seven pollutants; (2) The first five batches of environmental inspection have a stronger impact on reducing air pollution than "looking back"; Moreover, in the short tel·in after the inspection, it still has a significant reduction effect on air pollution; (3) The impact of central environmental protection inspection on air pollution shows strong heterogeneity in different batches of inspections, urban scale and economic development level, as well as the air quality level of cities before the inspection. The research results of this paper provide corresponding policy recommendations and decision-making basis for the Chinese central government to further deepen the reform of environmental protection supervision mechanism and promote the emissions of multiple pollutants mitigation. This paper studies examines how a firm's position in the global value chain affects its pollutant emissions. This paper integrates China's firm-level trade data into China's multi-regional input-output tables to provide an index to measure a firm's position in global value chains. Based on a firm-level pollution dataset (2000–2014) in China, this paper conducts an empirical analysis and find that the most-downstream firms on the global value chain have lower pollutant emission intensity. Our results also suggest that the production factor structure effect, the knowledge absorption effect and the abatement investment effect together contribute to the emission intensity gap between the most-upstream firms and the most-downstream firms. These novel results are significant in guiding firms towards reducing their emissions and promoting a green global value chain, with the ultimate goal of achieving multinational environmental protection. With the growing global energy demand and limited production of conventional crude oil, the extraction of unconventional heavy and extra-heavy oil is receiving unprecedented attention. China is the fourth largest producer of heavy oil. High viscosity and complex formation environments increase the difficulty of exploiting heavy oil. To alleviate the economic cost and environmental pollution pressure brought by heavy oil production, China has achieved significant advancement in the innovation of heavy oil recovery, including accelerating the transformation of thermal technology to non-thermal technology and the use of new energy technology to achieve the goal of low-carbon economy and green environmental protection. Based on the background of heavy oil in China, this paper recharacterizes the high-viscosity mechanism of heavy oil. From different aspects, including basic principles, main characteristics, applicability, limitations, and challenges, this paper comprehensively reviews existing heavy oil recovery technologies, including thermal recovery, in-situ upgrading, cold recovery, and new energy technologies. Currently, in China, the main target of heavy oil recovery is achieving the "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality" goals, which can be described as low energy consumption, low emission, and low pollution. To facilitate the low-carbon transition in the extraction of heavy/extra-heavy oil and attain environmental sustainability goals, it is essential to increase the proportion of non-thermal factors in thermal recovery technologies, develop efficient in-situ catalysts, adopt clean cold extraction techniques, and advance the development of new energy technologies. • Combined with the daily operation mode of WPC, the operation mechanism of wind-pumped storage-thermal integrated energy system with integrated consideration of PSPS and WPC is proposed. The operational decision-making of pumped storage units is designed from the viewpoint of giving full play to the regulation performance of pumped storage and enhancing wind power accommodation. • The wind-pumped storage-thermal generation is arranged according to the principle of energy-saving power generation scheduling, considering the scheduling sequence. The complementary characteristics of wind-pumped storage-thermal are fully utilized to coordinate the safety, economy and environmental protection of the system in the implementation of the multi-objective optimization. • In terms of model solving, this paper adopts inter-temporal coupling unit combination optimization to reduce the computational complexity. In adherence to the overall energy-saving principle, the sorting index is considered and the priority ranking method is used in the start-stop optimization process of thermal power units. Then, the load allocation is optimized by the improved NSGA-II algorithm. With the rapid access of wind power clusters (WPC), it is difficult for the traditional active scheduling mode to take into account the security, economy and environmental protection of the power system. Pumped storage power station (PSPS), with its flexible regulation characteristics, can reduce the volatility of wind power and enhance the capacity of wind power accommodation to a certain extent. Therefore, this paper proposes an environmental and economic scheduling strategy for the wind-pumped storage-thermal integrated energy system, and rationally arranges the sequence of the units based on the principle of energy saving and emission reduction. The scheduling strategy involves optimizing operational decision-making for pumped storage units to enhance their regulation performance. Firstly, a pre-scheduling of the wind-pumped storage bundling system is carried out, aiming at achieving the highest wind power accommodation rate, the smallest output fluctuation and the lowest pumped storage scheduling cost. Next, the joint scheduling of the wind-pumped storage-thermal system is carried out, and the priority ranking method is used to arrange the generation schedule of the thermal units according to the optimal wind-pumped storage joint output. This paper presents a comprehensive synthesis of hydrogeochemical data, incorporating major ions and trace elements from 153 papers spanning 2000 to 2023, with a detailed analysis of 20 papers specific to Nepal Himalayan rivers. To bridge the research gap due to sparse data, we aimed to enhance inclusivity by amalgamating both seasonal and one-time datasets, computing mean values for singular instances, and employing grand means for multiple seasonal data points. Our findings highlight varied research attention across different river basins, with the eastern Koshi Basin receiving extensive attention, while the middle Gandaki and Bagmati Basins garner moderate attention, and data scarcity observed in the western Karnali Basin. Predominant ionic composition, notably Ca2+ and HCO 3 –, reflect lithological influences, primarily driven by rock weathering. Although anthropogenic impacts remain minimal in most basins, certain lowland areas with higher population densities exhibit increasing significance. Trace element contamination, notably Cd, Cu, Sr, and Zn, poses ongoing threats, both from natural and anthropogenic sources. Water quality assessments conducted for agricultural and drinking suitability indicated good status, except in the densely polluted urban Bagmati stem. Health and ecological risks are low, as determined by pollution indices such as Pi, NPI, HI, and CI. The Bagmati River's middle segment, with high population density and moderate agricultural activity, shows pronounced anthropogenic footprints, while downstream areas exhibited greater impacts. Additionally, this article proposes the potential use of a Water Quality Index tool to comprehensively assess water quality across all parameters in Himalayan water bodies, providing a roadmap for future environmental conservation in the Himalayas. Sustainability challenges persist in the central Indian Himalayas (CIH) despite an array of solutions proffered by external experts. This paper interrogates the 'sustainability gaze' of external experts – which reflects attempts to reconcile neoliberal economic growth with environmental conservation within the logics of technical and biophysical rationalities - by exploring local experiences of rapid and uncertain social and environmental change. Three strands of policy and practice shape the gaze: (i) natural hazard mitigation for climate change adaptation; (ii) reducing social vulnerability through pro-poor development; and (iii) increasing resilience through environmental management and conservation. Results challenge narratives that overpopulation causes environmental degradation and changing patterns of migration are a natural process of modernisation in the CIH. Alternative local narratives highlight haphazard and inequitable economic growth, lack of mountain planning and disaster management, inadequate social welfare programmes, and monkey relocation policies as the major sustainability challenges. The paper discusses how the gaze produces 'sustainable developmentality' - a depoliticising process that cultivates multiple and conflicting mountain subjectivities, namely: (i) active community members responsible for mitigating natural hazards, (ii) productive farmers and flexible waged labourers, and (iii) custodians of the environment. This creates a triple-bind for smallholders which has forced huge numbers to migrate from their mountain dwellings with unsustainable outcomes. Exploring local perspectives re-politicises the debate, exposing the contradictions and tensions of the gaze and the broader systemic issues of power and inequity the gaze overlooks. Environmental protection and sustainable development are now profoundly ingrained in the public consciousness in the modern era of the global green revolution. First, this paper uses an evolutionary game model to theoretically analyse the impact of environmental regulation and green finance on enterprises by dissecting the game behaviour between local governments, banks and enterprises. Then, we incorporate entrepreneurial spirit into the model to determine whether entrepreneurial spirit accelerates the achievement of green sustainability objectives. Environmental regulation and green finance are found to contribute substantially to the innovation of green technologies by local enterprises, while entrepreneurial spirit accelerates this process. Finally, we empirically test the findings based on a prefecture-level panel dataset from 2007 to 2020. We find that green finance has a positive impact in Central and Western cities of China, while Eastern cities are in greater need for government environmental regulation controls. For entrepreneurial spirit, the incentive effect of entrepreneurial spirit on the level of green technology innovation is more significant in Central and Western regions of China. This paper enriches the field of research on entrepreneurial spirit and regional green sustainable development by providing empirical evidence for the evaluation of environmental regulatory and green financing policy impacts. In response to the growing emphasis on green packing, e-commerce businesses actively pursue sustainable solutions that balance cost reduction with environmental conservation. Traditional research on three-dimensional bin packing has concentrated on maximizing spatial utilization under fixed box dimensions. However, in the practical context of e-commerce, packing boxes exhibit a wide range of sizes within a single warehouse. Customizing packing to prevent material and space wastage has become crucial for sustainable development. This paper innovates traditional three-dimensional packing research by introducing open dimensions instead of fixed ones. It addresses challenges in e-commerce packing, such as multiple orders and diverse bin shapes, to formulate a mixed-integer programming model. Focused on the carbon emission lifecycle's usage phase for packing boxes, the model aims to minimize associated costs while ensuring that items' weight, the center of gravity, sufficient support, and non-overlapping placement are maintained during the packing process. It also incorporates one-dimensional and two-dimensional fixed bin sizes. To solve this model, the paper proposes an improved hybrid genetic algorithm for stack sequence optimization. This algorithm systematically optimizes the dimensions for each box type. Building upon this, the study introduces an algorithm capable of estimating packing material consumption and the percentage reduction in carbon emissions during the packing process, given the known variability in packing box utilization. These two algorithms are integrated into an open-dimension packing box warehouse management ecological closed loop system designed for the B2B e-commerce context. In experiments with the proposed model and algorithms, the results demonstrate an average packing rate improvement of 10%–12% compared to alternative methods. The low-carbon transformation is the key to China's high-quality economic development. This paper uses the panel data of 278 Chinese cities to measure low-carbon total factor productivity (LCTFP) and examines the impact of environmental protection tax (EPT) reform on LCTFP. EPT significantly promotes LCTFP. The promotion effect is more significant in the lower administrative level and resource-based cities in central and western regions. EPT promotes LCTFP through three channels including green technology innovation (GTI) effect, industrial structure upgrading effect and forcing effect. EPT has a negative spatial spillover effect on LCTFP in neighboring areas.
