The thermoelastic properties and thermal expansion of natural single-crystal zircon without detectable radiation damage were determined in the temperature range between 100 and 1650 K on five samples from Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Tanzania. Up to about 1500 K, the results are in excellent agreement and fully reversible. The average adiabatic elastic stiffness coefficients at room temperature in GPa are c11 = 426.8(6), c12 = 68.1(4), c13 = 152.0(4), c33 = 490.8(9), c44 = 113.1(2), and c66 = 49.0(1). Polycrystalline averaging for the aggregate bulk and shear modulus (Voigt-Reuss-Hill average) yields K = 229.3(4) GPa and G = 109.3(1) GPa. From 293 to 1573 K, the elastic stiffnesses soften almost linearly with the temperature coefficients in MPa/K: dc11/dT = –45.36(7), dc12/dT = –2.03(7), dc13/dT= –9.59(7), dc33/dT = –42.85(12), dc44/dT = –9.60(3), and dc66/dT = –2.19(1). Below room temperature, the behavior of the cij is nonlinear, with decreasing absolute values of the temperature coefficients. Above about 1500 K, a temperature- and time-dependent irreversible elastic stiffening accompanied by an increasing ultrasound dissipation was observed in all samples. Modified magnetite and hydrothermal apatite in banded iron formations (BIFs) are ideal minerals for studying hydrothermal and metamorphic processes and are applied to linking with high-grade Fe mineralization and metamorphism in iron deposits hosted by BIFs. In this study, we have investigated the geochemical composition of modified magnetite and hydrothermal apatite and in situ U-Pb geochronology on apatite from the Huogezhuang BIF-hosted Fe deposit in northeastern China. The magnetite in metamorphosed BIF is modified, locally fragmented, and forms millimeter- to micrometer-scale bands. The apatite is present surrounding or intergrowing with magnetite, has corroded surfaces, and contains irregular impurities and fluid inclusions, indicating that it has been partly hydrothermally altered. Original element compositions (e.g., Fe, Al, Ti, K, Mg, and Mn) of magnetite in BIFs have been modified during high-grade Fe mineralization and retrogressive metamorphism with temperature reduction and addition of acids. The hydrothermally altered apatite has been relatively reduced in the contents of Ca, P, F, La, Ce, Nd, δCe, δEu, and total REEs compared to non-altered apatite. The magnetite and apatite in low-grade BIFs are poorer in FeOT than those from the high-grade Fe ores, indicating that Fe is remobilized during the transition from BIFs to high-grade Fe ores. The magnetite and apatite in high-grade Fe ores are overgrown by greenschist-facies minerals formed during retrograde metamorphism, suggesting that the high-grade Fe mineralization may be related to retrogressive metamorphism. In situ U-Pb geochronology of apatite intergrown with magnetite and zircon LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating at Huogezhuang deposit reveals that the BIF-hosted magnetite was altered and remobilized at ca. 1950–1900 Ma, and deposition of the BIF began during the Late Neoarchean. The changes of elements in the modified magnetite and diferent geochemical compositions of the altered and unaltered apatite confirm that the modified magnetite and hydrothermal apatite can be efective in tracing high-grade Fe mineralization and retrogressive metamorphism in BIFs. The current debate on volcanic-plutonic connection is centered on whether eficient liquid-crystal segregation dominates the evolution of a mushy reservoir to produce evolved, crystal-poor rhyolite and cumulate leftover. However, magma recharge may remarkably influence the evolution of a mushy reservoir and obscure the evidence of liquid-crystal segregation. This complexity poses a challenge to exploring the connection of volcanic-plutonic rocks. This study investigates the Qinzhou Bay granitic complex (~250–248 Ma) from South China, which contains crystal-poor (<19 vol%) peraluminous rhyolites and subsequent crystal-rich (28–54 vol%) porphyries. Although the rhyolite and porphyry units have a close spatio-temporal link, they do not share a fractionation trend and similar whole-rock Sr-Nd-O isotopic compositions; thus, a direct connection is not evidenced. We further present textural analyses, mineral and melt inclusion compositions, thermobarometry (the combination of Ti-in-zircon thermometer and Ti-in-quartz thermobarometer), and thermodynamic modeling to examine the alternative interpretations, i.e., the two units may have intrinsically independent origins or the connection of the two units has been obscured. For the rhyolite unit, thermobarometric results reveal a polybaric storage system consisting of middle (>600 ± 80 MPa) and upper (~150 ± 40 and ~60 ± 20 MPa) crustal reservoirs. Variations in quartz Fe content and chlorine-rich, metaluminous melt inclusions suggest that magma hybridization with less-evolved metaluminous magmas occurred at both crustal levels. In particular, the elevated Fe contents in the quartz population that crystallized at the shallowest level (~60 ± 20 MPa) suggest that recharge magmas were directly injected into the shallowest reservoir. Deviation of the whole-rock composition from the liquid evolution trend recorded in melt inclusions suggests a combined efect of magma mixing and crystal-melt segregation processes in upper crustal reservoirs. Thermodynamic modeling and mass balance calculations suggest that the whole-rock composition of the rhyolite could be reproduced by mixing between regionally exposed dacites and segregated melts at crystallinities of 50–60% (using parental magma represented by the least-evolved melt inclusion). For the porphyry unit, thermobarometric results reveal magma storage at middle (more than 450 ± 40 to 550 ± 40 MPa) and upper (110 ± 20 to 140 ± 20 MPa) crustal levels. The small-scale oscillatory zonation of plagioclase, the pervasive resorption of quartz and alkali feldspar, and the presence of peraluminous microgranular enclaves in the porphyries suggest a recharge event of metasediment-sourced magmas, triggering reactivation and convection of the reservoir. Autoclastic and overgrowth textures of quartz, plagioclase, and alkali feldspar phenocrysts and development of columnar jointing suggest that the reactivated porphyritic magmas ascended and emplaced at ultrashallow levels (~30 ± 10 MPa). Because of the similar storage pressures, the porphyries may represent remobilized cumulates of rhyolitic magmas, whereas the texture and geochemistry of the cumulate-liquid pair were modified, a key factor rendering a cryptic connection between the rhyolite and porphyry. Alternatively, the plumbing systems feeding the rhyolite and porphyry units are horizontally independent or vertically discrete, but this circumstance is inconsistent with the same evolution trend of quartz Fe and Al contents of the rhyolite and porphyry. Our study highlights that whole-rock composition may record blended information of complex processes, and caution should be taken when whole-rock composition is used to extract information of a single process. Multi-method constraints are required to evaluate the influence of recharge processes on the modification of liquid-cumulate records, and big data analysis on the basis of geochemistry should be conducted with caution to avoid biased understanding. Skarn-type tungsten deposits are widely distributed all over the world and contribute more than 70% of the world's W supply. The temporal relation between the W mineralization and causative intrusions and the evolution of ore-forming fluids are matters of ongoing debate. In this study, we combine in situ LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating and trace element compositions of scheelite from Zhuxi, the world's largest W deposit, and compare them with literature data to address the above issues. Three primary ore stages exist at Zhuxi: prograde skarn, retrograde skarn, and quartz-sulfide stages. Most scheelite occurs in the retrograde skarn stage and is further subdivided into three generations: Sch A, B, and C. The obtained LA-ICP-MS U-Pb ages for three scheelite generations in the Zhuxi deposit are 154.0 ± 2.8, 150.3 ± 3.5, and 150.4 ± 6.3 Ma, respectively, indicating that the entire W mineralization is closely related to the emplacement of the nearby Late Jurassic granites (~154 to 150 Ma, zircon U-Pb ages). In situ LA-ICP-MS trace element results demonstrate that Sch A shows the highest Mo content (mean = 1002 ppm), where those for Sch B and Sch C are 109 and 45 ppm, respectively. These, combined with the gradually increasing trend of Ce contents and δCe values, indicate a shift from oxidizing to reducing conditions for the ore-forming fluid. All three scheelite generations yield significant positive δEu anomalies, which are considered to be unrelated to the redox state, but caused by the addition of Eu (e.g., feldspar dissolution). The high-Y/Ho ratio of scheelite and a good correlation between Y/Ho ratio and δEu (R2 = 0.96) suggest that intense fluid-rock interactions between ore fluids and the Shuangqiaoshan Group metasedimentary rocks as well as earlier-formed skarns drove fluid evolution. This study demonstrates that scheelite U-Pb geochronology is a useful technique when identifying the temporal link between hydrothermal W mineralization and the causative intrusion. Impact events modify and leave behind a complex history of rock metamorphism on terrestrial planets. Evidence for an impact event may be recorded in physical changes to minerals, such as mineral deformation and formation of high P-T polymorphs, but also in the form of chemical fingerprints, such as enhanced elemental diffusion and isotopic mixing. Here we explore laboratory shock-induced physical and chemical changes to zircon and feldspar, the former of which is of interest because its trace elements abundances and isotope ratios are used extensively in geochemistry and geochronology. To this end, a granular mixture of Bishop Tuff sanidine and Kuehl Lake zircon, both with well characterized Pb isotope compositions, was prepared and then shocked via a flat plate accelerator. The peak pressure of the experiment, as calculated by the impedance matching method, was ~24 GPa although a broader range of P-T conditions is anticipated due to starting sample porosity. Unshocked and shocked materials were characterized via scanning electron microscopy (SEM), electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD), and Raman spectroscopy. These methods show that the starting zircon material had abundant metamict regions, and the conversion of the feldspar to glass in the post-shock material. Analyses of the shocked product also yielded multiple occurrences of the high-pressure ZrSiO4 polymorph reidite, with some domains up to 300 μm across. The possibility of U-Pb system disturbance was evaluated via laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS) and secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS). The isotopic data reveal that disturbance of the U-Pb geochronometer in the reidite was minimal (<2% for the main U-Pb geochronometers). To better constrain the P-T conditions during the shock experiment, we complement impedance matching pressure calculations with iSALE2D impact simulations. The simulated results yield a range of P-T conditions experienced during the experiment and show that much of the sample may have reached >30 GPa, which is consistent with formation of reidite. In the recovered shocked material, we identified lamellae of reidite, some of which interlock with zircon lamellae. Reidite {112} twins were identified, which we interpret to have formed to reduce stress between the crystal structure of the host zircon and reidite. These two findings support the interpretation that shear transformation enabled the transition of zircon to reidite. The size and presence of reidite found here indicate that this phase is probably common in impact-shocked crustal rocks that experienced ~25 to ~35 GPa, especially when the target material has porosity. Additionally, shock loading of the zircon and transformation to reidite at these pressures in porous materials is unlikely to significantly disturb the U-Pb system in zircon and that the reidite inherits the primary U and Pb elemental and isotopic ratios from the zircon. Hydrothermal rutile (TiO2) is a widely distributed accessory mineral in hydrothermal veins or alteration assemblages of porphyry deposits and provides important information for further understanding hydrothermal fluid signatures. This study determines the geochemical composition and U-Pb dates of hydrothermal rutile from the Yulong porphyry Cu-Mo deposit in east Tibet, China. Three types of TiO2 polymorphs have been identified based on their Raman spectroscopic, textural, and chemical characteristics. (1) Brookite and anatase pseudomorphs after titanite in a fine-grained matrix, indicating low-temperature hydrothermal fluids destabilizing primary Ti-bearing minerals during argillic alteration (type-I). (2) Elongated and prismatic rutile present in hydrothermal veins or in clusters in accompanying alteration envelope characterized by weak zoning (type-II). And (3) rutile intergrown with sulfides in hydrothermal veins, characterized by well-developed patchy and sector zoning (type-III). In contrast to the type-I and type-II TiO2 polymorphs, tungsten is enriched in backscattered bright patches and sector zones in type-III rutile, which is due to the substitution of W6+ in the Ti4+ octahedral site. The mechanism of the enrichment of tungsten is efectively driven by the halogen-rich (F, Cl) aqueous fluids during hydrothermal mineralization. In situ U-Pb dating of the type-III rutile yields a lower intercept age of 41.8 ± 1.2 Ma, which brackets the timing of the Cu-Mo mineralization. The relationship between rutile textures and composition indicates that W-bearing rutile can serve as a recorder of hydrothermal processes in porphyry Cu deposits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The Bin Yauri-Libata polymetallic ore district is a Sn and Au ore-bearing district in the Zuru schist belt, Northwestern Nigeria. The Libata Sn ore field is characterized by a set of cassiterite-bearing hydrothermal veins associated with Neoproterozoic Pan-African granites affected by deformation and low-grade metamorphism. The hydrothermal alteration associated with cassiterite-bearing quartz veins in the Libata deposit includes silicification, albitization, chloritization, and potassic alteration. In this study, geochemical and geochronological data from tourmalines and zircons from Sn-bearing lodes, unmineralized and altered granites is applied to reveal the timing, fluid composition, and source of ore-forming materials for tin mineralization in the Libata ore field. Zircon trace element and Hf isotopes [εHf(t) = +4.37 to +10.85] reveal a mantle-derived source with some crustal contribution for the melts forming the Libata Sn-bearing granites. LA-ICP-MS zircon U-Pb dating constrains the magmatic and hydrothermal ages to 650–646 and 649–646 Ma for the Libata granites. Overlapping zircon εHf(t) and 176Hf/177Hf but distinct 176Lu/177Hf and 176Yb/177Hf ratios from magmatic and hydrothermally altered zircons reveal a magmatic source for the hydrothermal fluids which triggered cassiterite deposition in the Libata ore field. Major element chemistry constrain tourmalines from the Libata ore field as schorls that show high alkalis, low-Ca contents, and moderate □ values (where □ is x-site vacancy). High Li, Zn, and Sn concentrations in tourmaline as well as Li/Sr and Ca-Fe-Mg ratios demonstrate that the tourmaline formed from granite-sourced fluid likely derived from the host Libata granites. Measured δ11B values from the Libata tourmaline range from –15.7‰ to –14.1‰. The δ11B of the mineralizing fluid is estimated to be –13.1 to –11.9‰ for the Libata tourmalines at 400–500 °C and overlaps with averages from fractionated granites worldwide. Therefore, our data show that tourmaline and zircon are useful tracers of magmatic-hydrothermal evolution in rare-metal-bearing granite systems. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Bastnäsite contains considerable amounts of U and Th and has been widely used for U-Th-Pb dating. Hydrothermal alteration of bastnäsite is common in nature but its effects on U-Th-Pb dating are not currently well constrained. Hence the significance of U-Th-Pb ages obtained from altered bastnäsite cannot be evaluated. Here, we present a detailed geochronologic as well as micro- and nano-scale mineralogical study of altered bastnäsite in a Mo-REE deposit, Central China. The original bastnäsite grains were confirmed to have crystalized at 208 Ma but were variably overprinted by a hydrothermal event at 150 Ma. They commonly exhibit typical replacement textures that appear to have formed from a coupled dissolution-reprecipitation process, i.e., a primary unaltered domain surrounded by a porous altered domain. Micro- and nano-scale mineralogical observations strongly suggest that during the coupled dissolution-reprecipitation process, non-radiogenic (common) Pb was incorporated into the altered domains in the form of nanoscale galena inclusions. Such incorporation (even minor) has significantly affected the 206Pb/238U and 207Pb/206Pb ratios due to the low contents of U and its daughter isotopes in bastnäsite, resulting in highly variable, discordant U-Pb dates for the altered domains. In contrast, incorporation of the non-radiogenic Pb has very limited effects (<5%) on the Th-Pb system due to the remarkably high contents of Th and radiogenic 208Pb in bastnäsite. Instead, the scattered 208Pb/232Th ages (208 to 150 Ma) of the altered domains were essentially affected by incomplete replacement, and thus can be used to approximate the lower age limit of the primary hydrothermal activity or the upper age limit of the secondary hydrothermal activity. The results from this study highlight that because of the different orders of magnitude between the U and Th contents in bastnäsite, the mobilization of radiogenic and non-radiogenic Pb during alteration may have significantly different impacts on the U-Pb and Th-Pb systems. Southeastern (SE) Yunnan is a major Sn polymetallic province of China, with the Dulong large Sn-Zn polymetallic deposit (in the Laojunshan orefield) being one of the most representative deposits. Our recent work had first identified helvine- group minerals in this deposit. These minerals mainly occur in massive sphalerite ores, and coexist with sphalerite, pyrrhotite, biotite, talc, cassiterite, and fluorite. Raman spectroscopic, X‑ray difraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopic (SEM), and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) analyses indicate that these helvine-group minerals are oscillatory-zoned helvine-danalite. Both the helvine and danalite zones are mixed with varying proportion of the other helvine-group end-member, and our studies indicate that the oscillatory zoning was formed mainly by periodic fluctuations of the fluid physicochemical conditions (notably fS2 and fO2), but less related to the variation of the fluid Mn, Fe, and Zn contents. The helvine zone was likely formed in a higher fS2 but lower fO2 environment than the danalite zone. In this study, we present the first LA-ICP-MS in situ trace element data for the helvine-danalite minerals from Dulong, and the results indicate that the helvine has considerably high contents and a wide range of trace elements. The helvine is rich in Ca, Al, Sc, and Y, while the danalite is rich in Sn and P (reaching thousands of parts per million). Such trace element enrichments are likely controlled by their respective ionic size and chalcophile behavior. Meanwhile, the fO2 and fS2 conditions during the zoning formation may have also influenced the trace element distributions: trace elements may have mainly entered the helvine-group minerals by substituting into the M-sites in M4[BeSiO4]3S, for instance Al, Sc, and Y substitute for Mn, and Sn and Mg for Fe and Zn. It is noteworthy that the helvine and danalite zones are all HREE-enriched and have distinct negative Eu anomalies. This may be related to the high fluid F-Y-P contents during the mineral formation. High-F-Y fluids can readily incorporate HREEs into helvine-group minerals, and phosphates incorporate HREEs more readily in alkali fluids. Europium occurs as Eu2+ in the fluid, causing the negative Eu anomalies observed. We have also identified grains of cassiterite in the helvine-group minerals and its coexisting sphalerite. U-Pb dating on these cassiterite grains yielded 86.5 ± 1.6 Ma, coeval with the reported sulfide mineralization age. This indicates that both the Be and Sn-Zn polymetallic mineralization occurred in the Cretaceous, and may have been products of the Late Yanshanian Laojunshan magmatic-hydrothermal activity. Considering the close relations with many W(-Be) deposits nearby (e.g., Nanyangtian, Saxi, and Maka), the Laojunshan orefield may also have substantial Be mineralization potential. A contaminated inclusion is characteristic of deposition and mechanical mixing, in which diamond fragments from diamond paste are mixed with epoxy resin and debris from the polishing process is deposited in inclusion ([12]). The Au mineralization in the giant Jiaodong Au province is enigmatic and difficult to fit current classic mineralization models, primarily because of uncertainties as to the sources of ore-forming fluids and metals. The ca. 120 Ma Au mineralization has been previously proposed to have occurred during a magmatic lull, which would negate a magmatic-hydrothermal genetic model. However, recent drilling has revealed a buried mineralized monzonite equivalent in age to the Au mineralization in the Linglong goldfield. Here, we present comprehensive textural, geochemical [LA-(MC)-ICP-MS trace element, Nd and S isotopes] and geochronological (LA-ICP-MS U-Pb dating) analyses of titanite and pyrite from this previously unrecognized monzonite. Three types of titanite were distinguished, including magmatic Ttn1 and hydrothermal Ttn2 and Ttn3, which show indistinguishable U-Pb ages (120.7 ± 3.1 and 120.9 ± 2.6 Ma), REE patterns and Nd isotopes [εNd(t) = –14.7 to –12.9], implying that hydrothermal fluids were directly exsolved from the monzonitic magma, contemporaneous with the large-scale Au mineralization at ca. 120 Ma. The Nd isotopes of titanite potentially indicate a lower crustal source mixed with mantle materials for the monzonite. Four types of pyrite were analyzed, including magmatic Py1 from fresh biotite monzonite, hydrothermal Py2 from altered biotite monzonite, hydrothermal Py3 from quartz-pyrite veins with a monazite U-Pb age of 118.2 ± 4.6 Ma, and magmatic Py4 from mafic enclaves of the Gushan granite at ca.120 Ma. The δ34S values of magmatic Py1 and Py4 (+1.9 to +6.3‰, and +5.0 to +6.4‰, respectively) and hydrothermal Py2 and Py3 (+6.4 to +9.5‰ and +6.5 to +7.6‰, respectively) are consistent with sulfur isotopic fractionation between melt and fluid. Hydrothermal Py2 and Py3 also have higher Co, As, Ag, Sb, and Bi contents and submicrometer gold inclusions, implying that the magmatic-hydrothermal fluids were fertile for mineralization. This study highlights the importance of monzonite magmatism and exsolved fertile fluids in regional Au mineralization. Hydrous magmas at ca. 120 Ma probably extracted Au eficiently from the lower crustal-mantle sources and released auriferous fluids at the late magmatic stage, leading to the formation of Au deposits in the Jiaodong province. The Shatanjiao pluton, located in the eastern Tongling region (Eastern China), is of great research significance for the study of magma evolutionary processes because this pluton is related to the regional Cu-Au mineralization. Zircon U-Pb dating on two granodiorite samples from this pluton yields ages of 141.9 ± 3.1 Ma (MSWD = 0.07) and 141.9 ± 3.3 Ma (MSWD = 0.03), respectively, which overlap the range of intense Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous magmatism in the Tongling region. Based on the Sr content of apatite from the Shatanjiao granodiorites, they are subdivided into high-Sr apatite (apatite-I: 754–1242 ppm, mean = 1107 ppm) and low-Sr apatite (apatite-II: 415–613 ppm, mean = 507 ppm). Both apatite-I and apatite-II are characterized by high-Sr and -Sr/Y ratios and inconspicuous negative-Eu anomalies, indicating that these granodiorites have a likely adakite affinity. Considering their low-Rb contents (<0.05 ppm), in situ Sr isotopes of these apatite grains show 87Sr/86Sr ratios of 0.70848–0.71494 and 0.70767–0.71585 for apatite-I and apatite-II, respectively, indicating that the 87Sr/86Sr ratios of both apatite groups can represent the Sr isotopic compositions of their host rocks. Moreover, the La/Sm and Sr/Th ratios of both apatite groups suggest that the studied granodiorites might be sourced from the partial melting of subducted ocean slabs and overlying sediments. Based on their zircon trace element compositions, the calculated temperature and oxygen fugacity for the magma are characterized by high temperatures (mean T = 646 °C) and high oxygen fugacity (mean Ce4+/Ce3+ ratios = 341). On the basis of MgO, FeO, SiO2, and ΣREE contents of apatite, we further suggest that apatite-I and apatite-II might have crystallized at the early and late stages of magma evolution, respectively. Because apatite-I has much higher Eu/Eu* ratios (0.56–0.76) but lower (La/Yb)N ratios (7.85–28.6) than apatite-II of 0.39–0.58 and 95.9–132, respectively, it is indicated that plagioclase, garnet, hornblende, and zircon might control the trace element composition of melt during the magma evolutionary history, which were recorded by the apatite. The Mogok metamorphic belt (MMB), Myanmar, is one of the most well-known gemological belts on Earth. Previously, 40Ar/39Ar, K-Ar, and U-Pb dating have yielded Jurassic-Miocene magmatic and metamorphic ages of the MMB and adjacent areas; however, no reported age data are closely related to the sapphire and moonstone deposits. Secondary ion mass spectrometry (SIMS) U-Pb dating of acicular rutile inclusions in sapphire and furnace step-heating 40Ar/39Ar dating of moonstone (antiperthite) in syenites from the MMB yield ages of 13.43 ± 0.92 and 13.55 ± 0.08 Ma, respectively, indicating both Myanmar sapphire and moonstone formed at the same time, and the ages are the youngest published in the region. The ages provide insight into the complex histories and processes of magmatism and metamorphism of the MMB, the formation of gemstone species in this belt, and the collision between India and Asia. In addition, our high field strength element data for the oriented rutile inclusions suggest an origin by co-precipitation rather than exsolution. In situ age determination of this nature is particularly significant since rutile inclusions in other gemstones, such as rubies, can be used to help constrain the geological history of their host rocks elsewhere. The genesis of the Dabaoshan stratabound base metal deposit has remained in dispute since its discovery. Scheelite is commonly present in both the Cu-S orebody and adjacent porphyry-style Mo-W mineralization and can provide insights into the hydrothermal history. In the stratabound Cu-S orebodies, there are three stages of mineralization: early-stage, Cu-(W), and late-stage. Two types of scheelite (here referred to as SchA and SchB) are identified in the Cu-(W) mineralization stage. SchA is anhedral and disseminated in massive sulfide ores. It coexists with chalcopyrite and replaces the preexisting arsenic-bearing pyrite. SchA exhibits chaotic cathodoluminescent (CL) textures and contains abundant mineral inclusions, including pyrite, chalcopyrite, arsenopyrite, uraninite, and minor REEbearing minerals. Chemically, SchA displays middle REE (MREE)-enriched patterns with negative Eu anomalies. SchB occurs in veins crosscutting the stratabound orebodies and shows patchy textures in CL images. Based on CL texture, SchB is subdivided into SchB1 and SchB2. SchB1 is CL-dark and occasionally shows oscillatory zoning, whereas SchB2 is CL-bright and relatively homogeneous. Chemically, SchB1 has a high-U content (mean = 552 ppm) and REE patterns varying from MREEenriched to MREE-depleted. In contrast, SchB2 is depleted in U (mean = 2.5 ppm) and has MREEenriched patterns. Compared with SchB, SchA is significantly enriched in Ba. Scheelite in the stratabound orebodies has similar Y/Ho ratios and trace-element characteristics as Sch3 in the Dabaoshan porphyry system. In situ U-Pb dating of hydrothermal apatite, collected from the Sch3-bearing veins in the footwall of stratabound orebodies, yielded a mineralization age of 160.8 ± 1.1 Ma. Zircon from the Dabaoshan granite porphyry yielded a U-Pb age of 161.8 ± 1.0 Ma. These two ages are consistent within uncertainty, suggesting that the ore-forming fluid responsible for tungsten mineralization in the stratabound orebodies was derived from the porphyry system. When fluid emanating from the deep porphyry system encountered the overlying Lower Qiziqiao Formation and stratabound orebodies, replacement reactions resulted in dramatic variations in physiochemical conditions (e.g., decrease in fO2, increase in Ca/Fe, As, Ba). During this process, U6+ was reduced to U4+, and As and Ba were leached out of the preexisting pyrite and host rock. Fluid-rock interactions triggered a rapid discharge of fluids, forming SchA with chaotic CL textures and abundant inclusions, but uniform REE patterns. SchB (characterized by patches with different chemical characteristics) may have been formed from repeated injection of ascending fluids into fractures crosscutting the preexisting massive sulfide ores. We propose that Jurassic porphyry Mo-W mineralization contributed to tungsten mineralization in the stratabound orebodies. Considering that Cu and W mineralization are genetically related, not only in the footwall but also in the stratabound orebodies, we infer that Cu in the stratabound orebodies was locally sourced from the Jurassic porphyry mineralization.
