Exploring highly efficient ultrasound-triggered catalysts is pivotal for various areas. Herein, we presented that Ba 2+ doped brookite TiO 2 nanorod (TiO 2 : Ba) with polarization-induced charge separation is a candidate. The replacement of Ba 2+ for Ti 4+ not only induced significant lattice distortion to induce polarization but also created oxygen vacancy defects for facilitating the charge separation, leading to high-efficiency reactive oxygen species (ROS) evolution in the piezo-catalytic processes. Furthermore, the piezocatalytic ability to degrade dye wastewater demonstrates a rate constant of 0.172 min -1 and achieves a 100 % antibacterial rate at a low dose for eliminating E. coli. Macrophages can kill bacteria and viruses by releasing free radicals, which provides a possible approach to construct antifouling coatings with dynamic surfaces that release free radicals if the breaking of dynamic covalent bonds is precisely regulated. Herein, inspired by the defensive behavior of macrophages of releasing free radicals to kill bacteria and viruses, a marine antifouling coating composed of polyurethane incorporating dimethylglyoxime (PU x -DMG) is prepared by precise regulation of dynamic oxime-urethane covalent bonds. The obtained alkyl radical (R·) derived from the cleavage of the oxime-urethane bonds manages to effectively suppress the attachment of marine biofouling. Moreover, the intrinsic dynamic surface makes it difficult for biofouling to adhere and ultimately achieves sustainable antifouling property. Notably, the PU 50 -DMG coating not only presents efficient antibacterial and antialgae properties, but also prevents macroorganisms from settling in the sea for up to 4 months. Biological treatment represents a fundamental component of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). The transmission of antibiotic resistance bacteria (ARB) and resistance genes (ARGs) occurred through the continuous migration and transformation, attributed to the residual presence of antibiotics in WWTPs effluent, posing a significant threat to the entire ecosystem. It is necessary to propose novel biological strategies to address the challenge of refractory contaminants, such as antibiotics, ARGs and ARB. This review summarizes the occurrence of antibiotics in wastewater, categorized by high and low concentrations. Additionally, current biological treatments used in WWTPs, such as aerobic activated sludge, anaerobic digestion, sequencing batch reactor (SBR), constructed wetland, membrane-related bioreactors and biological aerated filter (BAF) are introduced. In particular, because microorganisms are the key to those biological treatments, the effect of high and low concentration of antibiotics on microorganisms are thoroughly discussed. Finally, solutions involving functional bacteria, partial nitrification (PN)-Anammox and lysozyme embedding are suggested from the perspective of the entire biological treatment process. Acne is one of the most common skin conditions worldwide, with multifactorial origins it affects areas of the skin with hair follicles and sebaceous glands that become clogged. Bacterial incidence aggravates treatment due to resistance to antimicrobial agents and production of virulence factors such as biofilm formation. Based on these information, this study aims to conduct in vitro evaluations of the antibacterial activity of essential oils (EOs), alone and in combination, against Propionibacterium acnes, Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis in planktonic and biofilm forms. This study also assessed the anti-inflammatory potential (TNF-α) and the effects of EOs on the viability of human keratinocytes (HaCaT), murine fibroblasts (3T3-L1), and bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs). Of all EOs tested, 13 had active action against P. acnes, 9 against S. aureus, and 9 against S. epidermidis at concentrations of 0.125-2.0 mg/mL. Among the most active plant species, a blend of essential oil (BEOs) was selected, with Cymbopogon martini (Roxb.) Will. Watson, Eugenia uniflora L., and Varronia curassavica Jacq., the latter due to its anti-inflammatory action. This BEOs showed higher inhibition rates when compared to chloramphenicol against S. aureus and S. epidermidis, and higher eradication rates when compared to chloramphenicol for the three target species. The BEOs did not affect the cell viability of cell lines evaluated, and the levels of TNF-α decreased. Pseudomonas aeruginosa infections have become a serious threat to public health due to the increasing emergence of extensively antibiotic-resistant strains and high mortality rates. Therefore, the search for new therapeutic alternatives has become crucial. In this study, the antivirulence and antibacterial activity of methyl gallate was evaluated against six clinical isolates of extensively antibiotic-resistant P. aeruginosa. Methyl gallate exhibited minimal inhibitory concentrations of 256-384 μg/mL; moreover, the use of subinhibitory concentrations of the compound inhibited biofilm formation, swimming, swarming, proteolytic activity, and pyocyanin production. Methyl gallate plus antipseudomonal antibiotics showed a synergistic effect by reduced the MICs of ceftazidime, gentamicin and meropenem. Furthermore, the potential therapeutic effect of methyl gallate was demonstrated in an infection model. Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes) is a prevalent foodborne pathogen with a remarkable capacity to form biofilms on utensil surfaces. The Listeriolysin O (LLO) exhibits hemolytic activity, which is responsible for causing human infections. In this study, we investigated the inhibitory effect and mechanism of oregano essential oil (OEO) on L. monocytogenes, evaluated the effects on its biofilm removal and hemolytic activity. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of OEO against L. monocytogenes was 0.03 % (v/v). L. monocytogenes was treated with OEO at 3/2 MIC for 30 min the bacteria was decreased below the detection limit (10 CFU/mL) in PBS and TSB (the initial bacterial load was about 6.5 log CFU/mL). The level of L. monocytogenes in minced pork co-cultured with OEO (15 MIC) about 2.5 log CFU/g lower than that in the untreated group. The inhibitory mechanisms of OEO against planktonic L. monocytogenes encompassed perturbation of cellular morphology, elevation in reactive oxygen species levels, augmentation of lipid oxidation extent, hyperpolarization of membrane potential, and reduction in intracellular ATP concentration. In addition, OEO reduced biofilm coverage on the surface of glass slides by 62.03 % compared with the untreated group. Meanwhile, OEO (1/8 MIC) treatment reduced the hemolytic activity of L. monocytogenes to 24.6 % compared with the positive control. Molecular docking suggested carvacrol and thymol might reduce the hemolytic activity of L. monocytogenes. Multi-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) infection is a significant global health concern owing to its high mortality and morbidity rates. Coagulase (Coa), a key enzyme that activates prothrombin to initiate host coagulation, has emerged as a promising target for anti-infective therapeutic approaches. This study identified sinigrin as a potent Coa inhibitor that significantly inhibited S. aureus-induced coagulation at concentration as low as 32 mg/L. Additionally, at a higher concentration of 128 mg/L, sinigrin disrupted the self-protection mechanism of S. aureus. Thermal shift and fluorescence-quenching assays confirmed the direct binding of sinigrin to the Coa protein. Molecular docking analysis predicted specific binding sites for sinigrin in the Coa molecule, and point mutation experiments highlighted the importance of Arg-187 and Asp-222 as critical binding sites for both Coa and sinigrin. In vivo studies demonstrated that the combination of sinigrin with oxacillin exhibited greater antibacterial efficacy than oxacillin alone in the treatment of S. aureus-induced pneumonia in mice. Furthermore, sinigrin was shown to reduce bacterial counts and inflammatory cytokine levels in the lung tissues of S. aureus-infected mice. Multidrug-resistant pathogens are now thought to be the primary global causes of disease and death. Therefore, it is imperative to develop new effective bioactive compounds from microbial sources, such as Streptomyces species. Nevertheless, the pharmaceutical industry suffered financial losses and low-quality end products as a result of Streptomyces bacteriophage contamination. To reduce the likelihood of phage-induced issues in the medical industry, it is crucial to develop a method for finding phage-resistant strains. Hence, we aimed to isolate and characterize Streptomyces spp. and Streptomyces phages from various rhizospheric soil samples in Egypt and to investigate their antibacterial activities. Moreover, we targeted development of a Streptomyces phage-resistant strain to extract its active metabolites and further testing its antibacterial activity. Herein, the antibacterial activities of the isolated 58 Streptomyces isolates showed that 10 (17.2 %) Streptomyces isolates had antibacterial activities against the tested bacteria including Listeria monocytogenes, E. coli O157, Acinetobacter baumannii, methicillin resistant-vancomycin-intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA-VISA) and Micrococcus luteus. Three lytic bacteriophages (ϕPRSC1, ϕPRSC2, and ϕPRSC4) belonging to the families Siphoviridae and Podoviridae were obtained from the rhizospheric soil samples using the most potent S. abietis isolate as the host strain. The three isolated Streptomyces phages were thermostable, ultraviolet stable, infectious, and had a wide range of hosts against the 10 tested Streptomyces isolates with antibacterial activities. The DNA of the ϕPRSC1 and ϕPRSC4 phages were resistant to digestion by EcoRI and HindIII, but the DNA of ϕPRSC2 was resistant to digestion by EcoRI and sensitive to digestion by HindIII. Of note, we developed a S. abietis strain resistant to the three isolated phages and its antibacterial activities were twice that of the wild strain. Finally, telomycin was recognized as an antibacterial metabolite extracted from phage-resistant S. abietis strain, which was potent against the tested Gram-positive bacteria including L. monocytogenes, MRSA-VISA, and M. luteus. Bacterial biofilms pose a significant threat to healthcare due to their recalcitrance to antibiotics and disinfectants. This study explores the anti-biofilm potential of Bacillus licheniformis cell-free culture supernatant (CFS) and its derived silver nanoparticles (bSNPs) against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The CFS exhibited potent anti-biofilm activity against both bacterial species, even at low concentrations, while devoid of significant bactericidal effects, mitigating resistance risks. Characterization studies revealed the non-proteinaceous nature and thermal stability of the CFS's anti-biofilm agent, suggesting a robust and heat-resistant structure. Green synthesis of bSNPs from CFS resulted in nanoparticles with significant anti-biofilm properties, particularly against P. aeruginosa, indicating differences in susceptibility between the bacterial species. Epifluorescence microscopy confirmed bSNPs' ability to inhibit and partially disrupt biofilm formation without inducing cellular lysis. The study highlights the potential of B. licheniformis CFS and bSNPs as promising biofilm control agents, offering insights into their mechanisms of action and broad-spectrum efficacy. The study aimed to isolate and identify Aliarcobacter spp. and Campylobacter spp. from the uterine contents of cows and to determine the susceptibilities of the isolates to various antibiotics. For this purpose, a total of 63 cows (with repeat breeder, metritis, and healthy) uterine contents were collected from a slaughterhouse. Pre-enrichment and membrane filtration methods were used to isolate Aliarcobacter and Campylobacter spp., and phenotypic and molecular methods were used to identify the isolates. Antibacterial susceptibilities of the isolates were determined by the disc diffusion method. A total of 11 (17.46 %, 11/63) samples were found positive for both genera, and 12 isolates were obtained from these samples. Out of 9 Campylobacter isolates, 5, 3, and 1 were identified as C. jejuni, C. sputorum, and C. hyointestinalis, respectively. Also, two and one of Aliarcobacter spp. isolates were identified as Aliarcobacter sp. and A. butzleri, respectively. All isolates of both genera were found to be sensitive to amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, ampicillin, erythromycin, and enrofloxacin and resistant to trimethoprim + sulfamethoxazole. This is the first study that reported on the isolation of C. hyointestinalis from cattle uterine contents. It was concluded that Campylobacter and Aliarcobacter species should be considered among the most important etiological agents in uterine infections that cause infertility in cows. ESKAPE pathogens, a notorious consortium comprising Enterococcusfaecium, Staphylococcusaureus, Klebsiellapneumoniae, Acinetobacterbaumannii, Pseudomonasaeruginosa, and Enterobacter species, pose formidable challenges in healthcare settings due to their multidrug-resistant nature. The increasing global cases of antimicrobial-resistant ESKAPE pathogens are closely related to their remarkable ability to form biofilms. Thus, understanding the unique mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance of ESKAPE pathogens and the innate resilience of biofilms against traditional antimicrobial agents is important for developing innovative strategies to establish effective control methods against them. This review offers a thorough analysis of biofilm dynamics, with a focus on the general mechanisms of biofilm formation, the significant contribution of persister cells in the resistance mechanisms, and the recurrence of biofilms in comparison to planktonic cells. Additionally, this review highlights the potential strategies of nanoparticles for managing biofilms in the ESKAPE group of pathogens. Nanoparticles, with their unique physicochemical properties, provide promising opportunities for disrupting biofilm structures and improving antimicrobial effectiveness. The review has explored interactions between nanoparticles and biofilms, covering a range of nanoparticle types such as metal, metal-oxide, surface-modified, and functionalized nanoparticles, along with organic nanoparticles and nanomaterials. The additional focus of this review also encompasses green synthesis techniques of nanoparticles that involve plant extract and supernatants from bacterial and fungal cultures as reducing agents. Furthermore, the use of nanocomposites and nano emulsions in biofilm management of ESKAPE is also discussed. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), a versatile Gram-positive bacterium, is implicated in a spectrum of infections, and its resilience is often attributed to biofilm formation. This study investigates the effect of sub-inhibitory doses of oxacillin on biofilm formation by methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA). Specifically, it examines how these doses influence biofilms' development, maturation, and dispersal. The biofilm's zenith reached 48 h of incubation, followed by a noteworthy decline at 96 h and a distinctive clearance zone around biofilm-positive cells exposed to oxacillin. Scanning electron micrographs unveiled an intriguing active biofilm dispersal mechanism, a rarity in this species. Among 180 isolates, only three carrying the elusive icaD gene exhibited this phenomenon. icaD gene was absent in their counterparts. Notably, the icaD gene emerges as a distinctive marker, crucial in regulating biofilm dispersion and setting these isolates apart. Ompok pabda is gaining popularity in the aquaculture industry due to its increasing demand; however research on microbial diversity and antibiotic susceptibility remains limited. The present study was designed to identify the bacterial pathogens commonly found in the pabda farming system with their biofilm forming potential and antibiotic susceptibility. Different bacterial strains were isolated from water, sediments and gut, gill of pabda fish and the isolates were identified based on their morphological traits, biochemical and molecular analysis. Antibiotic susceptibilities, antibiotic resistance gene determination and biofilm formation capabilities were evaluated by disc diffusion method, PCR amplification and Microtiter plate (MTP) assay, respectively. The respective isolates of gill and gut of pabda aquaculture and their environments were: Exiguobacterium spp. (25 %), Enterococcus spp. (20 %), Bacillus spp. (10 %), Acinetobacter spp. (10 %), Enterobacter spp. (10 %), Aeromonas spp. (10 %), Lactococcus spp. (5 %), Klebsiella spp. (5 %) and Kurthia spp. (5 %). Antibiotic resistance frequencies were found to be relatively high, especially for trimethoprim (95 %), sulfafurazole (75 %), ampicillin (60 %), amoxicillin-clavulanic acid (55 %), and cephradine (50 %). 30 % isolates were categorized as DR bacteria followed by 30 % isolates were MDR bacteria and 40 % were classified as XDR bacteria. Moreover, 4 antibiotic resistant genes were detected with sul1 (30 %), dfrA1 (10 %), tetC (40 %), and qnrA (5 %) of isolates. Based on the microtiter plate method, 20 %, 25 %, and 30 % of isolates were found to produce strong, moderate, and weak biofilms, respectively. The findings suggest that biofilm forming bacterial strains found in O. pabda fish farm may be a potential source of numerous antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Antibiotic resistance is increasing among Gram-negative bacteria, prompting the development of new antibiotics as well as alternative treatment approaches. Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemases (KPC) has become a major concern in the treatment of infections, since KPC-producing bacteria are resistant to a number of β -lactam and non β-lactam antibiotics in addition to hydrolyzing carbapenemases. The aim of this study is to examine the synergistic effect of human Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP) on KPC producer. The K. pneumoniae isolates were identified by using biochemical tests and PCR genotyping. The disc diffusion method was used to assess the antimicrobial susceptibility of each isolate, and the modified Hodge test (MHT) was used to find carbapenemases. Agar well diffusion and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) assays were used to validate the synergistic effect of GIP against Klebsiella species. MIC values of chosen antimicrobial compounds demonstrated a considerable synergism impact when combined with human GIP, particularly against KPC strains. The antibacterial activity of the antimicrobial compounds was boosted by 4-16 times due to human GIP, reducing the MIC values. The fractional inhibitory concentration (FIC) ranged from 0.032 to 0.25 for examined antibiotics. Infectious diseases, particularly those associated with biofilms, are challenging to treat due to an increased tolerance to commonly used antibiotics. This underscores the urgent need for innovative antimicrobial strategies. Here, we present an alternative simple-by-design approach focusing on the development of biocompatible and antibiotic-free nanocarriers from docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that has the potential to combat microbial infections and phosphatidylglycerol (DOPG), which is attractive for use as a biocompatible prominent amphiphilic component of Gram-positive bacterial cell membranes. We assessed the anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm activities of these nanoformulations (hexosomes and vesicles) against S. aureus and S. epidermidis, which are the most common causes of infections on catheters and medical devices by different methods (including resazurin assay, time-kill assay, and confocal laser scanning microscopy on an in vitro catheter biofilm model). In a DHA-concentration-dependent manner, these nano-self-assemblies demonstrated strong anti-bacterial and anti-biofilm activities, particularly against S. aureus. A five-fold reduction of the planktonic and a four-fold reduction of biofilm populations of S. aureus were observed after treatment with hexosomes. The nanoparticles had a bacteriostatic effect against S. epidermidis planktonic cells but no anti-biofilm activity was detected. We discuss the findings in terms of nanoparticle-bacterial cell interactions, plausible alterations in the phospholipid membrane composition, and potential penetration of DHA into these membranes, leading to changes in their structural and biophysical properties. Metal-phenolic networks (MPNs) have emerged as a versatile and multifunctional platform applied in bioimaging, disease treatment, electrocatalysis, and water purification. The synthesis of MPNs with mesoporous frameworks and ultra-small diameters (<200 nm), crucial for post-modification, cargo loading, and mass transport, remains a formidable challenge. Inspired by mussel chemistry, mesoporous metal-phenolic nanospheres (MMPNs) are facilely prepared by direct deposition of the metal-polyphenol complex on the interface of oil nano-droplets composed of block copolymers/1,3,5-trimethylbenzene followed by a spontaneous template-removal process. Due to the penetrable and stable networks, the oil nano-droplets gradually leak from the networks driven by shear stress during the stirring process. As a result, MMPNs are obtained without additional template removal procedures such as solvent extraction or high-temperature calcination. The materials have a large pore size (∼12.1 nm), uniform spherical morphology with a small particle size (∼99 nm), and a large specific surface area (49.8 m 2 g -1 ). Due to the abundant phenolic hydroxyl groups, the MMPNs show excellent antioxidative property. The MMPNs also have excellent photothermal property, whose photothermal conversion efficiency was 40.9 %. Aerogels, as a unique porous material, are expected to be used as insulation materials to solve the global environmental and energy crisis. Using chitosan, citric acid, pectin and phytic acid as raw materials, an all-biomass-based aerogel with high modulus was prepared by the triple strategy of ionic, physical and chemical cross-linking through directional freezing technique. Based on this three-dimensional network, the aerogel exhibited excellent compressive modulus (24.89 ± 1.76 MPa) over a wide temperature range and thermal insulation properties. In the presence of chitosan, citric acid and phytic acid, the aerogel obtained excellent fire safety (LOI value up to 31.2%) and antibacterial properties (antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli reached 81.98% and 67.43%). In addition, the modified aerogel exhibited excellent hydrophobicity (hydrophobic angle of 146°) and oil-water separation properties. More importantly, the aerogel exhibited a biodegradation rate of up to 40.31% for 35 days due to its all-biomass nature. Pyrite (FeS 2 ) has garnered attention due to its narrow bandgap, high light absorption, and low cost. However, the rapid recombination of charge carriers hinders its practical application. Surface electric field is a unique characteristic of tourmaline, which can induce effective separation of photo generated electrons and holes. This study successfully combined two directly mined natural minerals, tourmaline and pyrite, to form TFS. Characterization and experiments show that the surface electric field of tourmaline can significantly enhance the photocatalytic activity of TFS. Tetracycline (TC, 50 ppm) was degraded by 95% with 60 min, and the TFS reaction rate constant reached 0.0439 min -1 , which is 6.1 times and 17.3 times higher than that of tourmaline and FeS 2 . Additionally, it significantly improved light absorption and charge carrier separation capabilities. After simulating various natural environmental factors, TFS demonstrated practicality. Considered analysis of active substances and detection revealed that h + and 1 O 2 radicals are significant contributors, and the photocatalytic mechanism was proposed. Furthermore, the transformation pathways and toxicity of metabolites were studied. Constructing a photocatalytic membrane and photo-Fenton reaction coupling system is a novel strategy to enhance the photocatalytic activity of the membrane and eliminate the problem of membrane contamination. Herein, a g-C 3 N 4 /Bi 2 MoO 6 /PVDF photocatalytic membrane was prepared using a tannic acid-assisted in-situ deposition method. The membrane was characterized by three advantages of photocatalytic, self-cleaning, and antibacterial properties. Under the photo-Fenton-like conditions, the membrane had superior photodegradation efficiency of 90.7% for tetracycline, one of the main antibiotic contaminants in the China's aquatic system. Moreover, the membrane had excellent photo-Fenton self-cleaning ability, its flux recovery rate was up to 96%-98% after the self-cleaning process. Photoluminescence spectra, diffuse UV-visible spectrum, transient photocurrent responses, and electrochemical AC impedance spectrum results show that the heterojunction structure formed by g-C 3 N 4 and Bi 2 MoO 6 could improve the separation efficiency of photogenerated electrons-hole pairs. Electron spin resonance spectroscopy confirmed the photo-electrons facilitated the formation of hydroxyl radical (·OH) in the existence of H 2 O 2 , which enhanced tetracycline degradation. Moreover, the superior photo-Fenton self-cleaning performance, which mainly relied on the active free radicals produced by the photo-Fenton-like membrane to remove dirt on the membrane surface or in the membrane pore channel. Biofilm-forming microbes can pose a major health risk that is difficult to combat. Nanotechnology, on the other hand, represents a novel technique for combating and eliminating biofilm-forming microbes. In this study, the selenium nanoparticles (SeNPs) were biosynthesized from moderate halophilic bacteria isolated from Pichavaram mangrove sediments. The bacterial strain S8 was found to be efficient for SeNPs synthesis and hence identified by 16s r RNA sequencing as Shewanella sp. In UV- spectral analysis the SeNPs displayed a peak at 320 nm due to surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The cell-free extract of Shewanella sp. and SeNPs indicates that the various functional groups in the cell-free extract were mainly involved in the synthesis and stabilization of SeNPs. The SeNPs had a spherical form with average diameter of 49 ± 0.01 nm, according to the FESEM analysis. The EDX shows the distinctive peaks of selenium at 1.37, 11.22.12.49 Kev. In the agar well diffusion method, the SeNPs show inhibitory activity against all the test pathogens with the highest activity noted against P.aeruginosa with a zone of inhibition of 22.7 ± 0.3 mm. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) value of 80 μg/ml, minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 160 μg/ml, and susceptibility constant of 0.043 μg/ml show that SeNPs highly effective against P.aeruginosa. The Sub-MIC value of SeNPs of 20 μg/ml was found to inhibit P.aeruginosa biofilm by 85% as compared to the control. The bacterium Escherichia coli is one of the main causes of urinary tract infections. The formation of bacterial biofilms, especially associated with the use of urinary catheters, contributes to the establishment of recurrent infections and the development of resistance to treatment. Strains of E. coli that produce extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) have a greater ability to form biofilms. In addition, there is a lack of drugs available in the market with antibiofilm activity. Promethazine (PMZ) is an antihistamine known to have antimicrobial activity against different pathogens, including in the form of biofilms, but there are still few studies of its activity against ESBL E. coli biofilms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of PMZ against ESBL E. coli biofilms, as well as to assess the application of this drug as a biofilm prevention agent in urinary catheters. To this end, the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration of PMZ in ESBL E. coli strains were determined using the broth microdilution assay and tolerance level measurement. The activity of PMZ against the cell viability of the in vitro biofilm formation of ESBL E. coli was analyzed by the MTT colorimetric assay and its ability to prevent biofilm formation when impregnated in a urinary catheter was investigated by counting colony-forming units (CFU) and confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). PMZ showed bactericidal activity and significantly reduced (p < 0.05) the viability of the biofilm being formed by ESBL E. coli at concentrations of 256 and 512 μg/ml, as well as preventing the formation of biofilm on urinary catheters at concentrations starting at 512 μg/ml by reducing the number of CFUs, as also observed by SEM. An injectable hydrogel dressing, Zr/Fc-MOF@CuO 2 @FH, was constructed by combing acid-triggered chemodynamic treatment (CDT) with low-temperature photothermal treatment (LT-PTT) to effectively eliminate bacteria without harming the surrounding normal tissues. The Zr/Fc-MOF acts as both photothermal reagent and nanozyme to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS). The CuO 2 nanolayer can be decomposed by the acidic microenvironment of the bacterial infection to release Cu 2+ and H 2 O 2 , which not only induces Fenton-like reaction but also enhances the catalytic capability of the Zr/Fc-MOF. The generated heat augments ROS production, resulting in highly efficient bacterial elimination at low temperature. Precisely, injectable hydrogel dressing can match irregular wound sites, which shortens the distance of heat dissipation and ROS diffusion to bacteria, thus improving sterilization efficacy and decreasing non-specific systemic toxicity. Objective: This study aims to explore dentists' knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions regarding antibiotic use., Methods: We conducted a systematic review of dentists' knowledge, attitudes and perceptions regarding antibiotic use, by searching the MEDLINE, EMBASE and Web of Science for all original paper published from January 1990 to July 2023, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA 2020) guidelines., Results: The review included 37 papers, (7 qualitative and 30 quantitative studies). Modifiable factors (knowledge, attitudes) were reported as being associated with antibiotic prescribing by dentists which were cited in 30 of the 37. These attitudes most frequently identified by dentists were: complacency (22/29); lack of trust (16/29); the need to postpone the dental procedure (17/29); and fear (8/29). Gaps in knowledge were also identified (15/29). Only one of the included articles quantified the influence between the reported modifiable factors and antibiotic prescribing., Conclusions: The review emphasizes that dentists' antibiotic prescribing is predominantly influenced by modifiable factors. This insight informs the potential for targeted interventions to curtail inappropriate antibiotic use, contributing to global efforts in reducing antibiotic resistance. In today's world, the development of an efficient water treatment strategy requires a prospective approach for the production of active and stable photocatalysts. The construction of heterojunctions with different semiconductors is a promising procedure for improving photocatalytic performances. In the present research, binary CeO 2-x /BiCrO 3 photocatalysts were synthesized using a hydrothermal route preceded by a calcination step. The CeO 2-x /BiCrO 3 (15%) photocatalyst proved its unique performance of 29.3, 11.4, 11.7, and 23.0 times better than CeO 2 for photodegradation of respectively tetracycline hydrochloride (TCH), metronidazole (MET), azithromycin (AZM), and cephalexin (CPN), as antibiotic pollutants, upon visible light. The effective photocatalytic ability, which was caused by the impressive suppression of charge carriers, can be understood by the developed S-scheme mechanism. Moreover, the lower resistance of CeO 2-x /BiCrO 3 (15%) compared to CeO 2 , CeO 2-x , and BiCrO 3 against the charges transfer was another confirmation for boosted photocatalytic performance of the CeO 2-x /BiCrO 3 (15%) nanocomposite. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen that poses a significant threat to individuals suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF). The pathogen is highly prevalent in CF individuals and is responsible for chronic infection, resulting in severe tissue damage and poor patient outcome. Prolonged antibiotic administration has led to the emergence of multidrug resistance in P. aeruginosa. In this direction, antivirulence strategies achieving targeted inhibition of bacterial virulence pathways, including quorum sensing, efflux pumps, lectins, and iron chelators, have been explored against CF isolates of P. aeruginosa. Hence, this review article presents a bird's eye view on the pulmonary infections involving P. aeruginosa in CF patients by laying emphasis on factors contributing to bacterial colonization, persistence, and disease progression along with the current line of therapeutics against P. aeruginosa in CF. Dillenia indica is a medicinal tree of the Dilleniaceae and its flower extract was used for the synthesis of silver nanoparticle (AgNPs). The optimal conditions for AgNPs synthesis were as such: 2 mM AgNO 3 , pH 4.5 and 48-h reaction time. The characteristic band of AgNPs was observed at the wavelength of 435 nm by UV-visible spectroscopic study. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) analysis depicted the involvement of several functional groups of plant extracts in the synthesis of AgNPs. Nanoparticles were mostly spherical shaped and uniformly distributed, when observation was made by Transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX) showed absorption peak approximately at 3 keV thus confirmed the presence of silver metal in AgNP. X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation and selected area electron diffraction (SAED) patterns showed the crystalline nature of the AgNPs. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) analysis exhibited average size of the nanoparticles as 50.17 nm with a polydispersity index (PDI) value of 0.298. The zeta potential of nanoparticles was observed as -24.9 mV. To assess antibacterial activity, both AgNPs alone or its combination with the antibiotic were tried against six pathogenic bacteria. The combination of AgNPs with antibiotic was maximum effective against Shigella boydii (16.07 ± 0.35) and Klebsiella pneumoniae (15.03 ± 0.20). AgNPs alone showed maximum inhibition for both Gram-positive bacteria: methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (19.97 ± 0.20 mm) and Enterococcus faecium (19.80 ± 0.15 mm). Maximum inhibition of Enterobactor cloacae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed by antibiotic taken alone. This study develops environmentally benign capping technique to synthesize nanoparticles of Curcuma longa-coated titanium dioxide (CR-TiO 2 ) from titanium isopropoxide by utilizing the extract of Rosa rubiginosa flowers as reducing and chelating agent. The biogenically synthesized nanoparticles revealed excellent anti-bacterial, electrochemical, and photocatalytic properties due to the presence of porous TiO 2 nanostructures. The sharp peaks by XRD pattern showed the crystallinity and phase purity of TiO 2 nanoparticles. BET analysis proved mesoporous nature of the materials with specific surface area of 134 m 2  g -1 . The vibrational spectra suggest hydroxyl groups from flavonoids of Curcuma longa acting as functionalizing agent for TiO 2 nanoporous structures with visible luminescence, which is proven in fluorescence spectra and is applicable for photocatalytic studies. The anti-bacterial studies showed good inference on TiO 2 nanoparticles against Pseudomonas auruginosa and proved it to be an excellent antipseudomonal agent with the oxidative potential. The maximum degradation of phenol red dye in the presence of TiO 2 under visible light conditions was observed. The supercapacitor fabricated using the biogenic TiO 2 three-electrode system exhibited a specific capacitance of 128 Fg -1 (10 mV s -1 ), suggesting it as an excellent electrode material. The LSV curve at 50 mV s -1 scan rate showed that oxygen reduction potential (ORR) of CR-TiO 2 electrodes was 121 mV. The present study is a new application of nanoparticles in sustainability consideration of the environment as well as a solution to the power crisis with fewer limitations. The utilization of rare earth polishing powder waste (RPW) to prepare antibacterial ceramics can effectively avoid problems of pollution in the recycling process and waste of rare earth resources. Herein, a novel RPW-based antibacterial ceramics was developed, which possesses the core-shell structure with ceramics as the cores and the CeO 2 /BiOCl as the superficial coating. The antibacterial ceramics display notable antibacterial activity, and the inactivation rates of 3.3 log under visible light irradiation in 30 min and 2.4 log under darkness in 1 h were achieved, and the zone of inhibition values was found to be 16.6 mm for E.coil. The hardness of antibacterial ceramics was measured to be 897 (±38) HV, higher than commercial porcelain's hardness (600 HV). The antibacterial mechanism was verified by the Ce ion release, reactive species, and fluorescence-based live/dead cells. Numerous antibiotics are being released into the natural environment through wastewater. As antibiotic usage increases annually, its detrimental impact on the environment is escalating. Addressing environmental sustainability and human health requires significant attention towards antibiotic removal. In recent years, magnetic biochar (MBC) has gained widespread application in water treatment due to its exceptional adsorption and catalytic degradation capabilities. Antibiotics such as sulfamethoxazole (SMX), tetracycline (TC), ciprofloxacin (CIP), and others commonly exhibit an adsorption capacity by MBC ranging from 5 mg/g to 900 mg/g. Moreover, MBC typically removes over 90% of these antibiotics within 60 min. The effectiveness of antibiotic removal is significantly influenced by various preparation and modification methods. Furthermore, the incorporation of magnetism enables the material to be recycled and reused multiple times, thereby reducing consumption costs. This article discusses recent studies on antibiotic removal using MBC. It has been observed that variations in the selection of raw material and preparation procedures significantly affect antibiotic removal, while the mechanisms involved in antibiotic removal remain ambiguous. Additionally, it has been noted that the removal process may lead to secondary pollution and high preparation costs. Therefore, this review comprehensively outlines the utilization of MBC in the removal of antibiotics from wastewater, including aspects such as modification, preparation, removal mechanism, and factors influencing removal, and providing recommendations for antibiotic development. Despite modern advances in food hygiene, food poisoning due to microbial contamination remains a global problem, and poses a great threat to human health. Especially, Listeria monocytogenes and Staphylococcus aureus are gram-positive bacteria found on food-contact surfaces with biofilms. These foodborne pathogens cause a considerable number of food poisoning and infections annually. Ovomucin (OM) is a water-insoluble gel-type glycoprotein in egg whites. Enzymatic hydrolysis can be used to improve the bioactive properties of OM. This study aimed to investigate whether ovomucin hydrolysates (OMHs) produced using five commercial enzymes (Alcalase®, Bromelain, α-Chymotrypsin, Papain, and Pancreatin) can inhibit the biofilm formation of L. monocytogenes ATCC 15313, L. monocytogenes H7962, S. aureus KCCM 11593, and S. aureus 7. Particularly, OMH prepared with papain (OMPP; 500 μg/mL) significantly inhibited biofilm formation in L. monocytogenes ATCC 15313, L. monocytogenes H7962, S. aureus KCCM 11593, and S. aureus 7 by 85.56 %, 80.28 %, 91.70 %, and 79.00 %, respectively. In addition, OMPP reduced the metabolic activity, exopolysaccharide production (EPS), adhesion ability, and gene expression associated with the biofilm formation of these bacterial strains. These results suggest that OMH, especially OMPP, exerts anti-biofilm effects against L. monocytogenes and S. aureus. Diabetic wounds are characterized by chronic trauma, with long-term non-healing attributed to persistent inflammation and recurrent bacterial infections. Exacerbation of the inflammatory response is largely due to increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS). In this study, catalase (CAT) was used as a biological template to synthesize nanozyme-supported natural enzymes (CAT-Mn(SH) x ) using a biomimetic mineralization method. Subsequently, polymyxin B (CAT-Mn(SH) x @PMB) was immobilized on its surface through electrostatic assembly. CAT-Mn(SH) x @PMB demonstrates the ability for slow and sustained release of hydrogen sulfide (H 2 S). Finally, CAT-Mn(SH) x @PMB loaded microneedles (MNs) substrate were synthesized using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), and named CAT-(MnSH) x @PMB-MNs. It exhibited enhanced enzyme and antioxidant activities, along with effective antibacterial properties. Validation findings indicate that it can up-regulate the level of M2 macrophages and reduce the level of pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α). Additionally, it promotes angiogenesis and rapid nerve regeneration, thereby facilitating wound healing through its dual anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. The use of antimicrobials in poultry leaves residues in the litter, favoring the emergence of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens and making it a source of contamination. An in vitro 4 × 4 factorial trial was performed to investigate the influence of four treatments, consisting of antimicrobial sub-concentrations, on the transference of IncB/O-plasmid through conjugation in four groups. Each group was composed of one plasmid donor bacterium (Escherichia coli H2332) and a recipient bacterium (Escherichia coli J62 or Salmonella enterica serovars, Enteritidis, Typhimurium, or Heidelberg). Our results showed a little decrease in the conjugation frequency in almost all treatments between the two bacterial species, which varied according to each strain. The MIC test revealed an increase of up to 4096-fold in resistance to beta-lactams in Salmonella serovars after plasmid acquisition. Enterococcus faecalis, an opportunistic pathogen responsible for nosocomial infections, exhibits increased pathogenicity via biofilm formation. Theaflavin-3,3'-digallate (TF3), a theaflavin extracted from black tea, exhibits potent antibacterial effects. In the present study, we investigated the inhibitory effect of TF3 on E. faecalis. Our results indicated that TF3 significantly inhibited E. faecalis ATCC 29212 biofilm formation. This observation was further confirmed via crystal violet staining, confocal laser scanning microscopy, and field emission-scanning electron microscopy. To disclose the underlying mechanisms, RNA-seq was applied. TF3 treatment significantly altered the transcriptomic profile of E. faecalis, as evidenced by identification of 248 differentially expressed genes (DEGs). Through functional annotation of these DEGs, several quorum-sensing pathways were found to be suppressed in TF3-treated cultures. Further, gene expression verification via real-time PCR confirmed the downregulation of gelE, sprE, and secY by TF3. Nickel ferrite nanoparticles (NiFe 2 O 4 NPs) were synthesized using the medicinally important plant Aloe vera leaf extract, and their structural, morphological, and magnetic properties were characterized by x-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive x-ray (EDX), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The synthesized NPs were soft ferromagnetic and spinel in nature, with an average particle size of 22.2 nm. To the best of our understanding, this is the first comprehensive investigation into the antibacterial, anticandidal, antibiofilm, and antihyphal properties of NiFe 2 O 4 NPs against C. albicans as well as drug-resistant gram-positive methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and gram-negative multidrug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR-P. aeruginosa) bacteria. NiFe 2 O 4 NPs showed potent antimicrobial activity (MIC 1.6-2 mg/mL) against the test pathogens. NiFe 2 O 4 NPs at 0.5 mg/mL suppressed biofilm formation by 49.5-53.1 % in test pathogens. The study found that the NPs not only prevent the formation of biofilm, but also eliminate existing mature biofilms by 50.5-75.79 % at 0.5 mg/mL, which was further validated by SEM. SEM examination revealed a reduction in the number of cells that form biofilms and adhere to the surface. Additionally, it considerably impeded the colonization and aggregation of the biofilm strains on the glass surface. Light microscopic examination demonstrated that NPs effectively prevent the expansion of hyphae, filaments, and yeast-to-hyphae transformation in C. albicans, resulting in a substantial decrease in their ability to cause infection. Moreover, SEM images of the treated cells exhibited the presence of wrinkles, deformities, and impaired cell walls, which suggests an alteration and instability of the membrane. This study demonstrated the efficacy of the greenly manufactured NPs in suppressing the proliferation of candida, drug-resistant bacteria, and their preexisting biofilms, as well as yeast-to-hyphae transformation. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) by Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) are a significant health concern, especially due to the increasing prevalence of antibiotic resistance. This study focuses on isolating and characterizing bacteriophages specific to UPEC strains isolated from UTI samples. The isolated phages were assessed for their ability to target and lyse UPEC in vitro, focusing on their efficacy in disrupting biofilms, a key virulence factor contributing to UTI recurrence and antibiotic resistance. The morphological structure observed by TEM belongs to Myoviridae, the phage exhibited icosahedral symmetry with a long non-constricting tail, the approximate measurement of the phage head was 39 nm in diameter, and the phage tail was 105.317 nm in length. One-step growth experiments showed that the latent period was approximately 20 min, followed by a rise period of 40 min, and a growth plateau was reached within 20 min and the burst size observed was 26 phages/infected bacterial cells. These phages were capable of killing cells within the biofilms, leading to a reduction in living cell counts after a single treatment. This study highlights the potential of phages to play a significant role in disrupting, inactivating, and destroying Uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC) biofilms. Such findings could be instrumental in developing treatment strategies that complement antibiotics and disinfectants. Objectives: Infection with Clostridioides difficile usually occurs after antibiotic treatment for other infections and can cause gastro-intestinal disorders of variable severity. C. difficile can be resistant to a wide spectrum of antimicrobials. Detection of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is important to direct optimal treatment and surveillance of AMR patterns in the overall population. Correlation between genotypic markers and phenotypic AMR is not yet well defined. The aim for this study is to assess whether and to what extent genotypic determinants of AMR correlate with phenotypic resistance., Methods: C. difficile isolates (n = 99) were phenotypically characterized for resistance to eight antibiotics using Sensititre plates or E-tests. Their genomes were screened for genetic markers of resistance. Accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive and negative predictive values were calculated., Results: We found high rates of resistance (>50 %) to cefoxitin and clindamycin, intermediate rates of resistance (10 %-50 %) to moxifloxacin and tetracycline and low rates of resistance (<10 %) to imipenem, metronidazole, vancomycin, and rifampicin. For moxifloxacin, tetracycline, and clindamycin, we found a good correlation between genotypic and phenotypic AMR, with an overall accuracy of 98 % (95 % CI 93%-100 %), 78 % (95 % CI 68%-86 %) and 86 % (95 % CI 77%-92 %) respectively. For the other five antibiotics, accurate estimates on the correlation could not be made., Conclusion: Our results suggest that for moxifloxacin, tetracycline and clindamycin, phenotypic resistance in C. difficile can be predicted by genetic indicators and used for public health purposes. Rhamnolipids, a major category of glycolipid biosurfactant, have recently gained enormous attention in medical field because of their relevance as effective antibacterial agents against a wide variety of pathogenic bacteria. Our previous studies have shown that rhamnolipids from an environmental isolate of Pseudomonas aeruginosa UKMP14T possess antibacterial, anti-adhesive and anti-biofilm activity against multidrug-resistant ESKAPE (Enterococcus faecium, Staphylococcus aureus, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Enterobacter sp.) pathogens. However, the mechanism of their antibacterial action remains unclear. Thus, this study aimed to elucidate the mechanism of the antibacterial action of P. aeruginosa UKMP14T rhamnolipids by studying the changes in cells of one of the ESKAPE pathogens, Acinetobacter baumannii, which is the most difficult strain to kill. Results revealed that rhamnolipid treatment rendered A. baumannii cells more hydrophobic as evaluated through contact angle measurements. It also induced the release of cellular proteins measuring 510 μg/mL at a rhamnolipid concentration of 1000 μg/mL. In addition, rhamnolipids were found to be bactericidal in their action as they could permeate the inner membranes, leading to a leak-out of nucleotides. More than 50 % of the cells were found to be killed upon 1000 μg/mL rhamnolipid treatment as observed through fluorescence microscopy. Other cellular changes such as irregular shape and size, membrane perturbations, clumping, shrinkage and physical damage were clearly visible in SEM, FESEM and laser micrographs. Furthermore, rhamnolipid treatment inhibited the levels of acyl-homoserine lactones (AHLs) in A. baumannii, which are vital for their biofilm formation and virulence. The obtained results indicate that P. aeruginosa UKMP14T rhamnolipids target outer and inner bacterial membranes through permeation, including physical damage to the cells, leading to cell leakage. Furthermore, AHL inhibition appears to be the mechanism behind their anti-biofilm action. The current study was conducted to determine the phylogroups and antibiotic susceptibilities of Escherichia coli isolates recovered from fecal samples of Anatolian Ground Squirrels (Spermophilus xanthoprymnus) and to examine the relationship between them. Eighty-two E. coli isolates obtained from 150 fecal samples were investigated. The quadruplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR), phylogroup C-, and E-specific mPCR were subjected to phylogenetic typing of the isolates. The susceptibilities to fifteen antibiotics of the isolates were detected by the disk diffusion method. In the result of phylogenetic typing, phylogroup B2 was most predominant (58.6 %), followed by B1 (25.6 %), E (8.5 %), C (4.9 %), and D (2.4 %). The phylogroup A, F, and Escherichia clades were not detected. The antibiotic susceptibility test revealed that 59.8 % (49/82) and 19.5 % (16/82) of E. coli isolates were resistant to at least one antibiotic and multidrug-resistant (MDR), respectively. Twenty-six (31.7 %), 19 (23.2 %), 11 (13.4 %), and 10 (12.2 %) of the isolates were found to be resistant to gentamicin, tetracycline, amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, and cefoxitin. Of the 49 E. coli isolates that were found to be resistant to any antibiotic analyzed, 30, 13, 4, and 2 were located in phylogroup B2, B1, E, and D, respectively. MDR isolates were mostly located in both phylogroup B1 (31.3 %) and B2 (31.3 %). Antimicrobial resistance and biofilm formation by microbial pathogens pose a significant challenge to poultry production systems due to the persistent risk of dissemination and compromise of bird health and productivity. In this context, the study aimed to investigate the occurrence of different multiresistance phenotypes and the biofilm-forming ability of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from broiler chicken excreta in poultry production units in Ceará, Brazil. Samples were collected from three distinct broiler breeding facilities and subjected to isolation, identification, antibiotic susceptibility testing, phenotypic screening for β-lactamases enzymes, and biofilm formation evaluation. Seventy-one strains were identified, being Escherichia coli (37 %) and Proteus mirabilis (32 %), followed by Klebsiella pneumoniae (11 %), Providencia stuartii (9 %), Klebsiella aerogenes (6 %), Alcaligenes faecalis (4 %), and Salmonella sp. (1 %). A significant proportion (87 %) of multiresistant strains were detected. For the phenotypic evaluation of β-lactamases production, strains with resistance to second and third-generation cephalosporins and carbapenems were tested. About 4 of 6 and 10 of 26 were positive for inducible chromosomal AmpC β-lactamase and extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL), respectively. Regarding biofilm formation, it was observed that all MDR strains were capable of forming biofilm. A unique approach is imperative for the development of drugs aimed at inhibiting various stages of infection, rather than solely focusing on bacterial viability. Among the array of unconventional targets explored for formulating novel antimicrobial medications, blocking the quorum-sensing (QS) system emerges as a highly effective and promising strategy against a variety of pathogenic microbes. In this investigation, we have successfully assessed nine α-aminoamides for their anti-QS activity using Agrobacterium tumefaciensNT1 as a biosensor strain. Among these compounds, three (2, 3and, 4) have been identified as potential anti-QS candidates. Molecular docking studies have further reinforced these findings, indicating that these compounds exhibit favorable pharmacokinetic profiles. Additionally, we have assessed the ligand's stability within the protein's binding pocket using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and MMGBSA analysis. Further, combination of antiquorum sensing properties with antibiotics viaself-assembly represents a promising approach to enhance antibacterial efficacy, overcome resistance, and mitigate the virulence of bacterial pathogens. Bacterial infections are among the most significant causes of death in humans. Chronic misuse or uncontrolled use of antibiotics promotes the emergence of multidrug-resistant superbugs that threaten public health through the food chain and cause environmental pollution. Based on the above considerations, copper selenide nanosheets (CuSe NSs) with photothermal therapy (PTT)- and photodynamic therapy (PDT)-related properties have been fabricated. These CuSe NSs possess enhanced PDT-related properties and can convert O 2 into highly toxic reactive oxygen species (ROS), which can cause significant oxidative stress and damage to bacteria. In addition, CuSe NSs can efficiently consume glutathione (GSH) at bacterial infection sites, thus further enhancing their sterilization efficacy. In vitro antibacterial experiments with near-infrared (NIR) irradiation have shown that CuSe NSs have excellent photothermal bactericidal properties. These experiments also showed that CuSe NSs exerted excellent bactericidal effects on wounds infected with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and significantly promoted the healing of infected wounds. The indiscriminate use of antimicrobials has led to the emergence of resistant bacteria, especially pathogenic strains of Escherichia coli, which are associated with diseases in animals and humans. The aim of the present study was to characterize E. coli isolates in calves with regards to the presence of virulence genes and investigate the resistance of the isolates to different antimicrobials. Between 2021 and 2023, 456 fecal samples were collected from calves in the Pantanal and Cerrado biomes of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. All samples were subjected to microbiological analysis and disc diffusion antibiogram testing. The polymerase chain reaction method was used to detect virulence genes. Bacterial growth was found in 451 of the 456 samples and biochemically identified as Escherichia coli. All 451 isolates (100 %) exhibited some phenotypic resistance to antimicrobials and 67.62 % exhibited multidrug resistance. The frequency of multidrug-resistant isolates in the Cerrado biome was significantly higher than that in the Pantanal biome (p = 0.0001). In the Cerrado, the most common pathotype was Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) (28 %), followed by toxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) (11 %), enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) (8 %) and enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) (2 %). In most cases, the concomitant occurrence of pathotypes was more common, the most frequent of which were ETEC + STEC (33 %), ETEC + EHEC (15 %) and ETEC + EPEC (3 %). The STEC pathotype (30 %) was also found more frequently in the Pantanal, followed by EHEC (12 %), ETEC (9 %) and EPEC (6 %). The STEC pathotype had a significantly higher frequency of multidrug resistance (p = 0.0486) compared to the other pathotypes identified. The frequency of resistance was lower in strains from the Pantanal biome compared to those from the Cerrado biome. Medicinal plants have been widely used for their antimicrobial properties against various microorganisms. Arisaema dracontium a familiar medicinal plant, was analyzed and silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) were synthesized using extracts of different parts of its shoot including leaves and stem. Further, the antimicrobial activity of different solvent extracts such as ethyl acetate, n-hexane, ethanol, methanol, and chloroform extracts were analyzed. AgNPs were prepared using aqueous silver nitrate solution and assessed their antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) and Non-multidrug-resistant bacteria. The characterization of AgNPs was done by Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTI), and X-ray Diffraction approaches. The leaf extract contained Tannins, Flavonoids, Terpenoids, and Steroids while Alkaloids, Saponins, and Glycosides were undetected. The stem extract contained Alkaloids, Tannins, Flavonoids, Saponins, Steroids, and Glycosides while Terpenoids were not observed. The AgNPs synthesized from stem and leaf extracts in the current study had spherical shapes and ranged in size from 1 to 50 nm and 20-500 nm respectively as were visible in TEM. The leaf extract-prepared AgNPs showed significantly higher activities i.e., 27.75 mm ± 0.86 against the MDR strains as compared to the stem-derived nanoparticles i.e., 24.33 ± 0.33 by comparing the zones of inhibitions which can be attributed to the differences in their phytochemical constituents. The acute toxicity assay confirmed that no mortality was noticed when the dosage was 100 mg per kg which confirms that the confirms that the AgNPs are not toxic when used in low quantities. Enterococcus faecalis is the primary species detected in cases of secondary persistent infection resulting from root canal therapy failure. Due to the overuse of antibacterial agents, E. faecalis has developed resistance to these drugs, making it challenging to treat clinical diseases caused by E. faecalis infection. Therefore, there is an urgent need to explore new alternative drugs for treating E. faecalis infections. We aimed to clone and express the genes of phage endolysins, purify the recombinant proteins, and analyze their antibacterial activity, lysis profile, and ability to remove biofilm. The crude enzyme of phage endolysin pEF51 (0.715 mg/mL), derived from phage PEf771 infecting E. faecalis, exhibited superior bacterial inhibitory activity and a broader bactericidal spectrum than its parental phage PEf771. Furthermore, pEF51 demonstrated high efficacy in eliminating E. faecalis biofilm. Therapeutic results of the infected Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat model indicated that among 10 SD rats, only one developed a thoracic peritoneal abscess and splenic peritoneal abscess after 72 h of treatment with pEF51. This suggests that pEF51 could provide protection against E. faecalis infection in SD rats. Based on the 16S rDNA metagenomic data of the intestinal microbial community of SD rats, endolysin pEF51 exerted a certain influence on the diversity of intestinal microorganisms at the genus level. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a significant pathogen responsible for severe multisite infections with high morbidity and mortality rates. This study analyzed carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) at a tertiary hospital in Shandong, China, using whole-genome sequencing (WGS). The objective was to explore the mechanisms and molecular characteristics of carbapenem resistance. A retrospective analysis of 91 isolates from January 2022 to March 2023 was performed, which included strain identification and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. WGS was utilized to determine the genome sequences of these CRPA strains, and the species were precisely identified using average nucleotide identification (ANI), with further analysis on multilocus sequence typing and strain relatedness. Some strains were found to carry the ampD and oprD genes, while only a few harbored carbapenemase genes or related genes. Notably, all strains possessed the mexA, mexE, and mexX genes. The major lineage identified was ST244, followed by ST235. The study revealed a diverse array of carbapenem resistance mechanisms among hospital isolates, differing from previous studies in mainland China. It highlighted that carbapenem resistance is not due to a single mechanism but rather a combination of enzyme-mediated resistance, AmpC overexpression, OprD dysfunction, and efflux pump overexpression. The global rise of antibiotic resistance poses a substantial risk to mankind, underscoring the necessity for alternative antimicrobial options. Developing novel drugs has become challenging in matching the pace at which microbial resistance is evolving. Recently, nanotechnology, coupled with natural compounds, has emerged as a promising solution to combat multidrug-resistant bacteria. In the present study, silver nanoparticles were green-synthesized using aqueous extract of Phoenix dactylifera (variety Ajwa) fruits and characterized by UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Thermogravimetric-differential thermal analysis (TGA-DTA). The in-vitro synergy of green synthesized P. dactylifera silver nanoparticle (PD-AgNPs) with selected antibiotics and bioactive extract of Punica granatum, i.e., ethyl acetate fraction (PGEF), was investigated using checkerboard assays. The most effective synergistic combination was evaluated against the QS-regulated virulence factors production and biofilm of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 by spectroscopic assays and electron microscopy. In-vivo anti-infective efficacy was examined in Caenorhabditis elegans N2 worms. PD-AgNPs were characterized as spherical in shape with an average diameter of 28.9 nm. FTIR analysis revealed the presence of functional groups responsible for the decrease and stabilization of PD-AgNPs. The signals produced by TGA-DTA analysis indicated the generation of thermally stable and pure crystallite AgNPs. Key phytocompounds detected in bioactive fractions include gulonic acid, dihydrocaffeic acid 3-O-glucuronide, and various fatty acids. The MIC of PD-AgNPs and PGEF ranged from 32 to 128 μg/mL and 250-500 μg/mL, respectively, against test bacterial strains. In-vitro, PD-AgNPs showed additive interaction with selected antibiotics (FICI 0.625-0.75) and synergy with PGEF (FICI 0.25-0.375). This combination inhibited virulence factors by up to 75 % and biofilm formation by 84.87 % in P. aeruginosa PAO1. Infected C. elegans worms with P. aeruginosa PAO1 had a 92.55 % survival rate when treated with PD-AgNPs and PGEF. The combination also reduced the reactive oxygen species (ROS) level in C. elegans N2 compared to the untreated control. Commercial broiler farms face challenges of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli transmitted from both vertical and horizontal routes. Understanding the dynamics of ESBL-E. coli transmission in compromised biosecurity settings of small-scale rural poultry farms is essential. This study aimed to elucidate the probable transmission pathways of ESBL-E. coli in such settings, employing phylogenetic analysis and molecular docking simulations to explore the catalytic properties of β-lactamase variants. Sampling was conducted on a small-scale poultry farm in West Bengal, India, collecting 120 samples at three intervals during the broiler production cycle. E. coli isolates underwent resistance testing against eight antimicrobials, with confirmation of ESBL production. Genotypic analysis of ESBL genes and sequencing were performed, alongside molecular docking analyses and phylogenetic comparisons with publicly available sequences. Among 173 E. coli isolates, varying resistance profiles were observed, with complete resistance to cefixime and high resistance to amoxicillin and tetracycline. The incidence of ESBL-E. coli fluctuated over the production cycle, with dynamic changes in the prevalence of bla CTX-M -type and bla SHV -type genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicated partial clonal relationships with human clinical strains and poultry strains from the Indian subcontinent. Molecular docking confirmed the catalytic efficiencies of these ESBL variants. The study highlights probable vertical transmission of ESBL-E. coli and emphasizes drinking water as a potential source of horizontal transmission in small-scale poultry farms. Staphylococcus haemolyticus is a cause of bovine mastitis, leading to inflammation in the mammary gland. This bacterial infection adversely affects animal health, reducing milk quality and yield. Its emergence has been widely reported, representing a significant economic loss for dairy farms. Interestingly, S. haemolyticus exhibits higher levels of antimicrobial resistance than other coagulase-negative Staphylococci. In this study, we synthesized silver/silver chloride nanoparticles (Ag/AgCl-NPs) using Solanum lasiocarpum root extract and evaluated their antibacterial and antibiofilm activities against S. haemolyticus. The formation of the Ag/AgCl-NPs was confirmed using UV-visible spectroscopy, which revealed maximum absorption at 419 nm. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis demonstrated the crystalline nature of the Ag/AgCl-NPs, exhibiting a face-centered cubic lattice. Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy elucidated the functional groups potentially involved in the Ag/AgCl-NPs synthesis. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) analysis revealed that the average particle size of the Ag/AgCl-NPs was 10 nm. Antimicrobial activity results indicated that the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and maximum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of the Ag/AgCl-NPs treatment were 7.82-15.63 μg/mL towards S. haemolyticus. Morphological changes in bacterial cells treated with the Ag/AgCl-NPs were observed under scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The Ag/AgCl-NPs reduced both the biomass of biofilm formation and preformed biofilm by approximately 20.24-94.66 % and 13.67-88.48 %. Bacterial viability within biofilm formation and preformed biofilm was reduced by approximately 21.56-77.54 % and 18.9-71.48 %, respectively.
