This paper addresses the event-triggered H ∞ control for switched linear systems without stable subsystems. A novel event-triggered-based switching strategy is designed to remove the requirement of real-time availability of system state which is a prerequisite for the traditional min-switching law to work. Instead, we only need to check the switching conditions at the discrete triggering instants, and unfavorable asynchronous switching behavior is also avoided. However, under the designed switching strategy, the value of the Lyapunov function may be increasing during the active interval caused by the possibility of the mismatch between the min-switching and triggering. To handle this challenge, we then construct an improved two-side looped-functional, which is also event-triggered-based and can remove conservative nonincreasing requirements of multiple Lyapunov functions. Sufficient conditions with less conservative for the considered switched linear systems to be asymptotically stable with H ∞ performance are obtained. Besides, Zeno phenomenon of both switching and triggering is also avoided. Finally, two examples are exploited to verify the applicability and effectiveness of the developed method. This paper focuses on finite-time boundedness problem of switched linear systems under periodically intermittent control. Sufficient conditions are established to guarantee finite-time boundedness or finite-time stability of switched linear systems under periodically intermittent control. The proof procedures are implemented successfully resorting to piecewise Lyapunov functions. Based on the linear matrix inequality technique, the conditions are casted into a convex optimisation problem and therefore, they can be efficiently handled. The method proposed in this paper is a much potentially useful one in practice because of its economical and efficient nature that is easy to employ. This study focuses on bumpless transfer (BT) fault detection in switched linear systems operating under mode‐dependent average dwell time (MDADT) switching. We propose a piecewise fault detection filter (FDF) inspired by the segmentation concept inherent in the multiple discontinuous Lyapunov function (MDLF) approach. This filter generates a residual signal that effectively minimizes the amplitude of residual bumps, surpassing the performance of traditional non‐piecewise FDFs. We introduce a new definition of residual BT performance, aimed at reducing residual bump amplitude during filter transitions. The goal is to design the piecewise FDF such that the augmented system maintains asymptotic stability with weighted H∞$$ {H}_{\infty } $$ performance, while also meeting the residual BT performance criteria. The feasibility of achieving H∞$$ {H}_{\infty } $$ BT fault detection filtering is established through linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), leveraging the MDLF and MDADT strategies. This article studies the stability problem of discrete‐time positive switched linear systems by introducing a nonzero elements chain method. Compared to existing works, the highlight of this article is reflected in the inclusiveness of the subsystem, that is, each subsystem is allowed to be stable, marginally stable or even unstable. Some sufficient conditions depending on the characteristics of system matrices and the time‐dependent switching signals are established, so as to guarantee the exponential stability of positive switched linear systems. Summary: Ultra‐high voltage converters are usually employed to transform low voltage to high voltage in microgrids to produce renewable energy. However, it is challenging to develop control techniques due to the complicated structure of ultra‐high voltage converters and the numerous power switches and circuit components, which leads to poor dynamic characteristics of the system and a marked increase in fault rates. In order to understand the control theoretical characteristics of the ultra‐high voltage converter and provide a theoretical basis for circuit parameter analysis and control strategy design, this paper takes the boost converter cascaded system as an example to establish an accurate switching linear system model, discusses the control theoretical characteristics of the ultra‐high voltage converter in detail, and uses the decision theorem to draw the conclusion that the system is structurally controllable, reachable, and observable, simplifying the difficulty of analysis. The simulation and experimental findings show that the conclusion was drawn correctly. This article explores the problem of stabilizing continuous-time switched linear autonomous systems under safety-critical constraints. The authors propose a switching law that achieves both stability and safety by characterizing the safe initial set and developing a design procedure. The research focuses on the constructive design of switched linear autonomous systems to achieve physical safety and exponential convergence of state trajectories. The article includes a proof and proposition related to the stability and safety of the switched system, as well as a computational procedure to estimate the safe initial domain. An illustrative example is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the design scheme. The non-overshooting conditions measured by the state/output 2-norm of discrete-time switched linear systems(DTSLS) are investigated in this paper. A sufficient and necessary condition for state non-overshooting of discrete-time linear time invariant(LTI) systems is firstly derived, and the non-overshooting region, which is a pair of zero-symmetrical cones, is defined and analyzed. Adopting the idea of dividing the state space into distinct non-overshooting regions, some state non-overshooting conditions for DTSLS are addressed. The output non-overshooting problem, which is more complex, is solved in a similar way, and several output non-overshooting conditions are established. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the proposed conditions.

This paper considers the problem of approximating the infinite-horizon value function of the discrete-time switched LQR problem. In particular, the authors propose a new value iteration method to generate a sequence of monotonically decreasing functions that converges exponentially to the value function. This method facilitates us to use coarse approximations resulting from faster but less accurate algorithms for further value iteration, and thus, the proposed approach is capable of achieving a better approximation for a given computation time compared with the existing methods. This article focuses on finite-time H ∞ control under the Round-Robin protocol for switched linear systems with admissible edge-dependent average dwell time. To relieve the bandwidth pressure of the sensor, a Round-Robin protocol is constructed to decide the access rights of each node of the sensor. Under the Round-Robin protocol-based control structure, admissible edge-dependent average dwell time is applied to describe the transition relationship between the modes of the subsystem and release the restrictions of mode-dependent average dwell time. Moreover, the finite-time stability and H ∞ performance of switched system with Round-Robin protocol are analyzed by using multiple Lyapunov function method combined with the admissible edge-dependent average dwell time switching. Sufficient conditions for the solution to finite-time control problem are derived which consider the H ∞ performance index. This study deals with analyze of an adaptive sliding model controller for a class of switched linear systems in the context of model reference adaptive control (MRAC) using RBF neural network (RBFNN) with the aid of disturbance observer (DO). For this purpose, adaptive laws and switching rules are designed. These are constructed based on tracking error and sliding mode control, together with using time-dependent switching conceptualizations. A DO is used to estimate the external disturbance with an adaptive RBFNN which is applied to obtain the external disturbance upper bound estimation, combined with an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) under the identic Lyapunov stability framework. The switching rules are based on dwell time (DT) and average dwell time (ADT) switching. The ASMC updates the system dynamics so that it assures the proposed closed-loop switched linear system stability via fast switching, resulting in the form of globally uniformly ultimately bounded (GUUB) stability. The convergence of the process of updating the weights in the adaptive RBFNN and the boundedness of updated estimates of weights are satisfied. Achieving the state tracking, robustness, reducing the chattering problem and anti-disturbance performance are the main objectives. Moreover, switching rules based on the mode-dependent approaches have been developed, which can allow faster switching as compared to switching rules based on the DT and ADT. This article focuses on the reachable set estimation and the state-feedback controller design for switched linear systems with a state-dependent switching and event-triggered control. First, the event-triggered bumpless transfer performance is given. The reachable set of the switched system is estimated under the proposed bumpless transfer based event-triggered mechanism by using the multiple Lyapunov functions method. A co-design of the event-triggered mechanism, a switching law and the controller gain is provided. Second, Zeno behavior is avoided by showing the existence of a positive lower bound on the event triggered interexecution intervals. Third, we design a state-feedback controller which contains the system states in a preset ellipsoid. A converter cascaded system is usually used for power conversion. However, due to the increase of the number of converters in the cascaded system, the amount of power switches and circuit elements also increases accordingly, which makes it difficult to analyze the dynamic characteristics and design control strategy. To understand the control theoretical characteristics of converter cascaded system and provide a theoretical basis for circuit parameters analysis and manipulation strategy design, taking the Flyback converter cascaded system as an example, this paper establishes an accurate switching linear systems model, discusses the control theoretical characteristics of the system in detail by using the controllability theorems. The simulations and experimental results prove the correctness of the analysis.

Switched linear systems are important in providing a convenient method to represent many practical systems. This paper investigates the performance analysis of switched linear systems under arbitrary switching. Computational algorithms based on square coordinate transformations are presented to obtain the least μ1 measure. Theoretical results showed that sequences of the least μ1 matrix set measure obtained by two different algorithms are convergent and the limit gives an upper bound estimation of the spectral abscissa. In this paper, the global exponential stability problem of the switched linear system with time-varying delays is considered. We establish a new stability criterion for the switched linear time-delay system under the Φ-dependent average dwell time technique. By adopting different grouping methods for subsystems, the corresponding stability criteria based on average dwell time and mode-dependent dwell time techniques can be unified to the new results. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.

The purpose of this article is to survey some sparsity‐inducing methods in system identification and state estimation. Such methods can be divided into two main categories: methods inducing sparsity in the parameters and those sparsifying the prediction error. In the last class we discuss in particular the least absolute deviation estimator and its robustness properties with respect to sparse noise in both cases of univariate and multivariate measurements. We also discuss the application of sparsity‐inducing methods to switched system identification and to state estimation for linear systems in the presence sparse and dense measurement noises. This paper presents a new algorithm for the identification of a specific class of hybrid systems. Hybrid System identification is a challenging problem since it involves the estimation of discrete and continuous states simultaneously. Using the method known as product of errors, this problem could be formulated such that, the identification of continuous state to be independent of discrete state estimation. We propose a new iterative weighted least squares algorithm (IWLS) for the identification of switched auto regressive exogenous systems (SARX). In this method, the parameters of only one subsystem are updated at each iteration while the parameters of the other subsystems are assumed known. In the method, all four main parameters of hybrid systems, namely Subsystem degrees, Number of subsystems, Unknown parameters vector and switching signal are estimated. Simulation results shows that our proposed method has a good performance in identifying the subsystems parameters and switching signal. Also, the superiority of our algorithm is shown by modeling of two SARX systems.

This paper investigates the design of discounted-cost linear quadratic regulator for a class of switched linear systems. The distinguishing feature of the proposed method is that the designed discounted-cost linear quadratic regulator achieves not only the desired optimisation index but also the exponentially convergent of the state trajectory of the closed-loop switched linear systems. First, the studied problem is transformed into a quadratic-programming problem by embedding transformation. Then, the bang-bang type solution of the embedded optimal control problem on a finite-time horizon is derived, which is the optimal solution to the original problems. The computable sufficient conditions on discounted-cost linear quadratic regulator are proposed for finite-time and infinite-time horizon cases, respectively. This paper aims to stabilize an uncertain scalar switched linear system whose feedback information is transmitted over a digital communication network. The system has a scalar state. That network can only supply a finite data rate to represent the state and suffers from time-varying bounded network delay. Due to the unknown mode switch time and the unknown network delay, mode mismatch between the plant and the controller is unavoidable. By applying reachable set approximation and propagation approaches, this paper quantitatively investigates the effects of mode mismatch and model uncertainty on the system's stability and designs communication and control strategies to guarantee the desired stability. Moreover, it proposes some novel event-triggered sampling strategies, under which the required stabilizing bit rate can be lower than that required by traditional periodic sampling strategies. This article investigates stabilization problems of networked event-triggered switched systems under multiasynchronous switching. Different from the existing asynchronous literature, a novel problem is considered in this article, i.e., the event-triggering scheme and controller both have independent switching delays relative to the system, which is called multiasynchronous switching. An adaptive event-triggering scheme with switching structure is utilized to achieve better adjustment in triggering frequency. A systematic framework for analyzing multiasynchronous switching stability and solving controller gains is established. Different Lyapunov functionals are employed, and new tight bound conditions on average dwell time are constructed. Besides, an active packet loss approach for handling packets disorder issues caused by large transmission delays is presented. Since the activation instants of the system, triggering scheme, and controller are mutually staggered with the data updating instants of the actuator, a novel analytical method aiming at the coupling effect is proposed. The paper focusses on the model reduction of discrete-time switched linear systems with finite-frequency specifications. First, we propose a performance index that can estimate systematic performance over finite frequency. And then, we use GKYP (generalized Kalman–Yakubovich–Popov lemma) and introduce some relaxation matrices with variable parameters to analyse the problem in different situations. Based on the above conditions, sufficient conditions can be obtained for meeting the index of finite frequency. Finally, we illustrate two numerical examples. This paper is concerned with event-triggered and guaranteed cost finite-time control for switched systems with dynamic quantized output feedback and exogenous disturbances. First, one common strategy is superseded by one mode-dependent event-triggered strategy, which means each subsystem possesses its own event-triggered substrategy. Second, considering the hardship of obtained system state information, a dynamic quantized output feedback controller is used to stabilize the switched system. Third, by using the methods of multiple Lyapunov functionals, free-weighting matrices and the average dwell time for the switched system, the sufficient condition of finite-time boundedness (FTB) is obtained for the switched system; and a synthesis procedure is provided to obtain the dynamic output feedback controller gain, event-triggered strategy parameters and an upper bound of the quadratic performance function. The present work addresses the stability issue of switched linear systems (SLSs) subject to event-triggered control. We presume that the feedback controller acquires the switching signals and systems state information only at event-triggered sampling instants. An event triggering strategy is presented for both control and switching. Meanwhile, sufficient condition is obtained to stabilize the event-triggered switched linear systems. In addition, we prove that the Zeno behavior can be excluded through the proposed event triggering strategy. Min-projection switching law, a related control method of switched linear systems model, is famous for its outstanding dynamic performance. However, under digital control framework, H6 inverter directly employing it performs unsatisfactorily. To improve the performance, a new control law based on projection-value-based switching strategy named synthetic velocity vectors control law (SVVCL) is proposed in this paper. Compared with min-projection switching law, SVVCL could be effectively applied on digital-controlled H6 inverter under the framework of pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. Firstly, fitness function of SVVCL considering static and dynamic performances is established. Secondly, control law is simplified to improve its accessibility. Further, a common approach to design compensator for improving output robustness is discussed. Finally, experiments on a 400W prototype are carried out. Results show that H6 inverter employing SVVCL has preferable static performance, strong robustness, as well as excellent dynamic response characteristics.

This paper deals with model reference adaptive control for an uncertain switched linear system in the presence of disturbances in the state and control input based on time-dependent switching methods. A novel composite disturbance observer-based adaptive controller with adaptive laws is proposed in a tracking problem of uncertain switched linear system. First, two disturbance observers are proposed to estimate disturbances. Then, a hybrid switched adaptive controller based on state feedback and disturbance observers is designed. Thereafter, based on time-dependent switching signals included dwell-time (DT), average dwell-time (ADT), and the mode-dependent approaches of DT and ADT, a globally uniformly ultimately bounded stability of the closed-loop switched linear system is proved. This article investigates the exponentially stabilization problem for a class of switched positive systems with actuator saturation under dwell time switching signal. The state feedback controllers for each subsystem are designed by proposing a new type of multiple time-varying linear co-positive Lyapunov functions (MTVLCLFs), and sufficient conditions for the exponentially stabilization of the studied systems are proposed under dwell-time switching. In order to cope with actuator saturation, the convex hull technique is utilized. Finally, an example of a turbofan engine model is presented to show the effectiveness of our proposed method. This paper aims to stabilize a switched linear system which transmits its feedback information through digital communication networks. It investigates the effects of three factors on stabilization of the concerned system, including bounded network delay, unknown switching time instants and limited information to represent the system state. The network delay cannot be precisely known, may degrade the system's performance and even destabilize it. Compared with the earlier work on delay-free switched linear systems, it needs to place stricter restrictions on the feedback data rate conditions and the average dwell time. It assumes that the switching is slow enough in the sense of combined dwell time and average dwell time, each individual mode is stabilizable and the available feedback data rate is high enough, but still finite. It proposes some encoding and control strategies to stabilize the switched linear systems with bounded network delay under some feedback data rate conditions.

We present a control-theoretic approach to achieve Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) resilient designs. We assume situations in which the CPS must maintain the correct operation of a set of crucial functionalities despite ongoing adversarial misbehavior. The approach is based on a moving target defense paradigm, driven by a linear switching of state-space matrices, and applied at both the physical and network layers of a networked-control system. We show that the final system maintains stability. We also evaluate, via simulation, a step-by-step procedure that takes a transfer function, representing the dynamics of the physical process. As a result, we obtain a resilient CPS design structured around a topology of decentralized controllers. Results show that the obtained approach is both innovative and promising.

This work is concerned with a structural characterization of the diagnosability property in Timed Continuous Petri Nets (TCPNs) systems under infinite server semantics. Regarding this problem, three novel results are presented. The first one is the introduction of structural sufficient conditions for diagnosability in TCPNs, which are based on the concepts of relative degree, system distinguishability, and parameter identification. To this aim, the concept of a simple directed path from other works is extended to diagnosable directed paths. These new paths include attribution-places, pre-join-places and post-join-places, which allows to deal with multiple non-concurrent tokens-leak faults, and enlarging the class of systems that can be analyzed. Based on these structural conditions, a novel methodology to place a reduced number of sensors that guarantees the net diagnosability is proposed. Finally, a diagnoser based on a modified Differential Evolution algorithm is presented, which introduces individual searching sets in orthogonal spaces to diagnose (detect, locate, and identify) faults when an error is detected, avoiding the use of a bank of diagnosers of other approaches. This paper treats the control design of an output-dependent switching function for discrete-time switched linear systems, without considering the synthesis of any additional dynamic structure. The conditions are based on a convex, but time-varying, Lyapunov function and are expressed in terms of Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMIs). The state feedback switching function design can be obtained as a particular case and is simpler to handle from theoretical and numerical viewpoints compared to other methods available in the literature, as for instance, those based on Lyapunov–Metzler inequalities. The novelty of the proposed control methodology is the adoption of a time-varying Lyapunov function, which together with the presence of a key matrix, allow us to treat the static output feedback control design, taking into account a guaranteed H 2 performance cost. We address the feedback design problem for switched linear systems. In particular we aim to design a switched state-feedback such that the resulting closed-loop subsystems share the same eigenstructure. To this effect we formulate and analyse the feedback rectification problem for pairs of matrices. We present necessary and sufficient conditions for the feedback rectifiability of pairs for two subsystems and give a constructive procedure to design stabilizing state-feedback for a class of switched systems. In particular the proposed algorithm provides sets of eigenvalues and corresponding eigenvectors for the closed-loop subsystems that guarantee stability for arbitrary switching. This study aims to determine how to deal with the identification from input and output data of switched linear systems (SLSs) with Box and Jenkins models. The identification difficulties of this system are that there exist unknown switched signal, unknown middle variables, and colored noise terms in the identification process. To address these issues, the proposed identification method proceeds in two stages, including the estimation of the switched signal of SLSs and the identification of the parameters of all subsystems. First, the Gaussian mixture model is established to represent the distribution of the input and output data of SLSs. Then, the posterior probability is calculated by the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm and the naive Bayes classifier, and the switched signal is estimated according to the maximum probability criterion. Next, the auxiliary model based multi-innovation generalized extended least square (AM-MI-GELS) algorithm is used to estimate the parameters of all subsystems. This paper is concerned with the controller synthesis issue for enforced positive switched linear systems via output feedback. First, the stabilization problem is studied with output feedback under average dwell time switching signal, and the controllers we proposed guarantee stability and positivity of the closed-loop systems. Second, the output feedback stabilization issue is investigated by introducing special form of diagonal matrices, and the constraints on states and control inputs are solved based on limited initial conditions. Then, the derived conditions are described via linear programming, also extending the theoretical findings to constrained output issue. This paper studies a notion of topological entropy for switched systems, formulated in terms of the minimal number of trajectories needed to approximate all trajectories with a finite precision. For general switched linear systems, we prove that the topological entropy is independent of the set of initial states. We construct an upper bound for the topological entropy in terms of an average of the measures of system matrices of individual modes, weighted by their corresponding active times, and a lower bound in terms of an active-time-weighted average of their traces. For switched linear systems with scalar-valued state and those with pairwise commuting matrices, we establish formulae for the topological entropy in terms of active-time-weighted averages of the eigenvalues of system matrices of individual modes. For the more general case with simultaneously triangularizable matrices, we construct upper bounds for the topological entropy that only depend on the eigenvalues, their order in a simultaneous triangularization, and the active times. In each case above, we also establish upper bounds that are more conservative but require less information on the system matrices or on the switching, with their relations illustrated by numerical examples. This article is concerned with the rate bumpless transfer control issue for switched linear systems with stability. The rate bumpless transfer performance of switched systems is defined for the first time. By joint-design of a switching logic and a series of dynamic output feedback controllers, a rate bumpless transfer control scheme is offered to address the rate bumpless transfer control issue of the systems with stability. A criterion ensuring both the rate bumpless transfer performance and stability of the systems is formed. As a class of complex nonlinear systems, aero-engine control systems can hardly be described by any accurate mathematical models. Switched linear models are often used to describe aero-engine control systems due to their flexibility and reliability. For aero-engines control systems, bumpless transfer is particularly important and must be guaranteed. Thus, the proposed rate bumpless transfer control strategy is applied to the control design of an aero-engine control system. For the problem of motion state estimation of mobile target tracked by sensor nodes, the information-weighted Kalman consensus filter (IKCF) is introduced for sensor networks with switching communication topologies. In order to improve the dynamic performance of the IKCF, the low-pass consensus filtering algorithm is used to estimate the motion acceleration of the target. Moreover, an improved low-pass consensus filter is proposed to make the estimated motion accelerations converge to a smaller range. With low-pass consensus filtering for measured motion accelerations, the switched linear system of collective estimation errors of the IKCF is derived. Furthermore, it is proved that the switched linear system of collective estimation errors is globally uniformly asymptotically stable with a weighted l 2 -gain. Consequently, the conclusion is deduced that estimations of the target motion state can achieve consensus and converge to the target motion state within a bounded region as t → ∞ under switching topologies. The sampled‐data event‐triggered control problem of switched linear systems in which both the sampled information of the system states and the switching signal are available to the controller at the event‐triggered transmission instants is studied here. The coexistence of the event‐triggered transmission and the switching behaviour makes the switching signal of the controller and the switching signal of the system asynchronous. By constructing a new multiple Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional and using the asynchronous switching method, the exponential stability conditions characterised by mode‐dependent average dwell time of the switching signal are proposed. Then, the corresponding solvability conditions for the event‐triggered state feedback controller are formulated.
