Abstract

Identity verification based on authenticity assessment of a handwritten signature is an important issue in biometrics. There are many effective methods for signature verification taking into account dynamics of a signing process. Methods based on partitioning take a very important place among them. In this paper we propose a new approach to signature partitioning. Its most important feature is the possibility of selecting and processing of hybrid partitions in order to increase a precision of the test signature analysis. Partitions are formed by a combination of vertical and horizontal sections of the signature. Vertical sections correspond to the initial, middle, and final time moments of the signing process. In turn, horizontal sections correspond to the signature areas associated with high and low pen velocity and high and low pen pressure on the surface of a graphics tablet. Our previous research on vertical and horizontal sections of the dynamic signature (created independently) led us to develop the algorithm presented in this paper. Selection of sections, among others, allows us to define the stability of the signing process in the partitions, promoting signature areas of greater stability (and vice versa). 9. Evaluating Neural Network Models For Predicting Dynamic Signature Signals

Abstract

A signature is a biometric attribute commonly used for identity verification. It can be represented by a shape created with a classic pen, but it can also contain dynamic information. This information is acquired using a digital input device, such as a graphic tablet or a digital screen and stylus. Information about the dynamics of the signing process is stored in the form of signals that change over time, including pen velocity, pressure, and more. These dynamics are characteristic of an individual and are difficult for a human to forge. However, it is an interesting research issue whether the values of signals describing a dynamic signature can be predicted using artificial intelligence methods. Predicting the dynamics of the signals describing a signature would benefit various scientific problems, including improving the quality of reference signals by detecting anomalies, creating signature templates better suited to individuals, and more effectively detecting potential forgeries by identity verification systems. In this paper, we propose a method for predicting dynamic signature signals using an artificial neural network. The method was evaluated using samples collected in the DeepSignDB database, distributed by BiDA Lab.

Abstract

The on-line signature is a biometric attribute which can be used for identity verification. It is a very useful characteristic because it is commonly accepted in societies across the world. However, the verification process using this particular biometric feature is a rather difficult one. Researchers working on identity verification involving the on-line signature might face various problems, including the different discriminative power of signature descriptors, the problem of a large number of descriptors, the problem of descriptor generation, etc. However, population-based algorithms (PBAs) can prove very useful when resolving these problems. Hence, we propose a new method for on-line signature partitioning using a PBA in order to improve the verification process effectiveness. Our method uses the Differential Evolution algorithm with a properly defined evaluation function for creating the most characteristic partitions of the dynamic signature. We present simulation results of the proposed method for the BioSecure DS2 database distributed by the BioSecure Association.
