Introduction: Hemodialysis (HD) patients have become a serious public health problem, the number of which is increasing every year worldwide. This study aimed to determine the relationship between satisfaction with life, dietary attitude, and comfort level in patients receiving HD treatment. Methods: This research was conducted in a relational cross‐sectional descriptive design. The research was conducted with 174 patients (85% of the population) receiving HD treatment between March 20 and September 30, 2023. In the study, hierarchical regression analysis was performed with SPSS 25.0. Machine learning analysis and prediction were performed using R programming language, version 4.1.3. Results: The model used to determine the factors affecting satisfaction with life was significant and usable (F(2,171) = 25.855, p = 0.001). Attitudes of HD patients toward dietary therapy and their HD comfort levels together explained 22.3% of the total variance of satisfaction with life. In the regression model, according to the results of the t‐test regarding the significance of the regression coefficient, the increase in the HD comfort levels of the participants (t = 2.668, p = 0.008) and the increase in the attitude of the HD patients toward dietary therapy (t = 5.897, p = 0.001) caused a statistical increase in "satisfaction with life." According to Shapley values, the most important variable in the prediction of satisfaction with life variable is attitude for the dietary attitude. Conclusion: It was determined that the increase in the comfort levels of HD patients and their positive dietary attitudes increased satisfaction with life. This study aimed to determine the relationship between religious coping, acceptance of illness and diabetes self-efficacy in patients with Type 2 diabetes. This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between 15/08/2022 and 15/03/2023 with 606 patients with Type 2 diabetes who attended Family Health Centers in a province center in eastern Türkiye. Model fits were found to be at satisfactory levels (x²/df=2.529, RMSEA=0.05, CFI=0.91, GFI=0.91, AGFI=0.88, IFI=0.91). Positive religious coping positively affected negative religious coping (ß0=0.123, p=0.012). Negative religious coping positively affected diabetes self-efficacy (ß0=0.099, p=0.039). Diabetes self-efficacy positively affected the level of acceptance of illness (ß0=0.430, p=0.001). It was determined that religious coping, acceptance of disease and diabetes self-efficacy were related in Type 2 diabetes patients. Longitudinal studies on factors affecting patients with Type 2 diabetes are recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: This study compared the effects of web‐based and face‐to‐face education given to office workers on health beliefs and physical activity levels towards obesity. Methods: The research was conducted as a randomized controlled experimental study. The study population consisted of 768 office workers between February 2020 and April 2021, and the sample of the research consisted of 90 individuals selected from the population using the nonprobability sampling method. Clinical trial number of the study is NCT05591846. Results: A total of 90 people, including 30 people in each group, were included in the study. According to the obesity health belief model, a positive change was achieved in the beliefs of individuals about obesity; it was determined that there was a significant increase in the subdimensions of the importance of health, sensitivity, seriousness and perception of benefit and a decrease in the perception of obstacles (p < 0.05). After both education methods were given according to the health belief model, a positive change was achieved in the physical activity level of the individuals; it was determined that the physical activity level score increased significantly (p < 0.05). Conclusion: It was determined that web‐based and face‐to‐face education given to individuals had a positive effect on the obesity health belief model components and the levels of physical activity level. Beliefs about obesity and physical activity are changed by face‐to‐face education methods.Along with the changing and developing technology, web‐based education has gained importance as well as face‐to‐face education.Studies on the effect of web‐based education compared with face‐to‐face education are limited. This study determined that face‐to‐face education and web‐based education had an effect on beliefs about effecting change in obesity and the duration of physical activity.Web‐based education can be as effective as face‐to‐face education for this. The implications of this paper: Individuals' beliefs about reducing obesity can change with face‐to‐face education and also with web‐based education, which can be accessed more easily in desired time periods.Web‐based education can be used to improve obesity in cases where face‐to‐face education cannot be applied. of laparoscopy in liver resections has become widespread. However, with the consensus meetings and international recommendations, laparoscopic liver resections have been tried to be standardized. We aimed to present this laparoscopic liver resection experience by comparing open and laparoscopic techniques. Materials and Methods: Patients who underwent liver resections between 2015 and 2022 were retrospectively screened and divided into 2 groups as laparoscopic liver resections and patients who underwent liver resection with open surgery. Indications, resection techniques, operative times, length of hospital stay, early hospital mortality, and complications were compared between both groups using statistical methods. Results: Laparoscopic surgery was performed in 31 (14%) patients, and open surgery was performed in 189 (86%). The mean operation time was 316 ± 168.2 minutes in patients who underwent laparoscopic liver resection. It was 329.4 ± 123.6 in the open surgery group. The length of hospital stay was 11.6 ± 4.9 days in patients who underwent laparoscopic liver resection, while it was 19.7 ± 12.1 days in patients who underwent open surgery. The difference between the length of hospital stay was statistically significant (Mann--Whitney U-test, P = .00). There was no difference between the 2 groups in terms of complications and early mortality. Conclusion: Laparoscopic liver resections are a safe method that can be applied in 3 or less segment resections. As the experience of the surgical team increases, it can be safely applied for major hepatectomies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: In juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), systemic corticosteroids are reserved for cases with serious organ involvement, those with macrophage activation syndrome, and in the presence of high disease activity in oligoarticular and polyarticular JIA. However, systemic steroids may lead to serious side effects linked to adrenal insufficiency (AI). This study aimed to investigate factors related to AI in children with JIA who received systemic steroids. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five children with AI (serum cortisol <18 µg/dL 30 minutes after adrenocorticotropic hormon stimulation) and 25 children without AI were included in this study. The subjects' characteristics, type of JIA, arthritis location, laboratory measurements, and number of joints involved were recorded. The type of glucocorticoid administered, the treatment protocol, and the cumulative steroid dose were recorded. The primary endpoint was the difference in clinical characteristics, laboratory measurements and systemic corticosteroid dose in those children with or without AI. Results: The median cumulative steroid dose was significantly higher in those patients with AI compared to those without [2,500 (1,370-4,400) mg vs. 963 (650-2,500) mg, p=0.010]. Patients with oligoarticular JIA had a 6.7-fold lower risk of AI compared to those with other JIA types [odds ratio (OR): 0.149, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.035-0.643, p=0.011]. Those patients with higher cumulative steroid doses (>1,000 mg) had a 7.5-fold higher risk of AI than those with lower doses (OR: 7,500, 95% CI: 1,634-34,416, p=0.010). Conclusion: Our findings show that non-oligoarticular JIA and high cumulative steroid doses are predictive for AI development in this patient subset; thus, systemic corticosteroids should be reserved for more aggressive JIA types and the cumulative dose should be limited to 1,000 mg. Objective: Maturity-onset diabetes of the youth (MODY) is a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of diseases which is often misdiagnosed as type 1 diabetes or type 2 diabetes. The aim of this study is to identify the occurence of mutations in subjects classified clinically as having MODY, and to determine phenotypic features and their long-term monitering consequences. Methods: Eighteen probands were selected based on the clinical criteria of MODY. Firstly, in patients with mild stable fasting hyperglycemia who did not progress, Sanger sequencing of GCK gene was performed as GCK-MODY was the most common cause of persistent and incidental hyperglycemia in the pediatric population. Patients without a GCK gene mutation or without mild fasting hyperglycemia were analysed by using targeted next-generation sequence for seven known monogenic genes of diabetes (ABCC8, GCK, HNF1A, HNF1B, HNF4A, INS, KCNJ11) to identify the molecular pathology. Results: We identified 11 GCK, 2 HNF1A, 2 KCNJ11 mutations in 18 probands. Eleven of them (73%) were previously reported and 4 of them (27%) were assessed as novel mutations. In two patients who were treated with insulin before the molecular analysis, insulin was switched to sulfonylurea and glibenclamide, after determination of pathogenic variants in HNF1A and KCNJ11, respectively. Retinopathy or nephropathy was not detected among the patients. Conclusion: The MODY has a large spectrum of clinical presentations. We detected 4 novel mutations among our cohort. Although GCK-MODY was the most frequent type of our study population, identification of rare MODY types and follow-up of these patients would help us better understand monogenic diabetes.
