BackgroundPatients with unruptured intracranial aneurysms (UIAs) often experience emotional changes and cognitive impairments. However, the specific mechanisms underlying these impairments are still not fully understood.MethodsIn the present study, voxel-based morphometry (VBM) and surface-based morphometry (SBM) were employed to investigate structural alterations in 49 patients diagnosed with UIAs compared with 50 healthy controls. Additionally, this study aimed to analyze the correlations among cortical morphological indices, cerebral blood perfusion values and neuropsychological test results.ResultsCompared with control group, UIA patients exhibited increased gray matter volume in the right anterior orbitofrontal cortex and decreased gray matter volume in the left thalamus pulvinar and hippocampus. Furthermore, the fractal dimension was lower in the right postcentral gyrus and entorhinal cortex. The cerebral perfusion values in the abnormal brain regions demonstrated a downward trend, which was associated with a reduction in gray matter volume in the left thalamus pulvinar and hippocampus, elevated anxiety levels and impaired executive function.ConclusionUIA patients are prone to cognitive impairment and emotional dysregulation, which are accompanied by subtle changes in local gray matter volume and decreases in fractal dimension and cerebral blood flow. These findings provide new insights into the potential mechanisms underlying the cognitive impairment observed in UIA patients.

Abstract Accurate identification and localization of multiple abnormalities are crucial steps in the interpretation of chest X-rays (CXRs); however, the lack of a large CXR dataset with bounding boxes severely constrains accurate localization research based on deep learning. We created a large CXR dataset named CXR-AL14, containing 165,988 CXRs and 253,844 bounding boxes. On the basis of this dataset, a deep-learning-based framework was developed to identify and localize 14 common abnormalities and calculate the cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) simultaneously. The mean average precision values obtained by the model for 14 abnormalities reached 0.572-0.631 with an intersection-over-union threshold of 0.5, and the intraclass correlation coefficient of the CTR algorithm exceeded 0.95 on the held-out, multicentre and prospective test datasets. This framework shows an excellent performance, good generalization ability and strong clinical applicability, which is superior to senior radiologists and suitable for routine clinical settings.

The stress corrosion behavior of 7xxx series aluminium alloys in different concentrations NaCl solution was studied, and numerical simulation was conducted in COMSOL Multiphysics based on experimental results. Different stresses were applied on the experiment pieces, the pitting crater deepened with the change of stress level. The corrosion rate increased with the raising stress. There is no positive correlation between stress corrosion degree and chloride ion concentration. The most severe corrosion occurs in 5.0 wt% NaCl solution instead of 6.0 wt% NaCl solution due to the increase of water film conductivity and decrease of solubility of oxygen under high Cl− environment. The finite element model was used to analyze the stress distribution on aluminium alloy surface, to describe the dynamic equation of anodic dissolution of metal due to elastic and plastic deformation. Corrosion occurs mainly in stress concentrated areas. When the stress loading exceeds a certain threshold, plastic strain occurs on the surface of both the specimen and the structural part, the corrosion current density increases instantaneously, and the corrosion behavior in the stress concentration area gradually intensifies. The survey can provide practical theoretical guidance for predicting stress corrosion and extending the service life of equipment in (harsh) marine environments.

Microbially influenced corrosion (MIC) is a multifaceted phenomenon that is influenced by the synergistic activity of various bacterial species that thrive within biofilms. The present study aims to investigate the impact of interspecies relationships on the corrosion behavior of aluminum alloy (Al alloy). To achieve this, cultures of Lacticaseibacillus paracasei (L. paracasei) and Acinetobacter lwoffi (A. lwoffi) were mixed and analyzed. The electrochemical experimental findings indicated that the 7B04 Al alloy exhibited the lowest Rct value and the highest corrosion current density when immersed in the mixed system. The utilization of surface analysis techniques, such as scanning electron microscopy and stereomicroscope, had led to the discovery of a significant number of corrosion pits in the mixed system. This finding suggested that the corrosion phenomenon was more severe than previously anticipated. The growth curve analysis revealed a synergistic interaction among the mixed bacterial species. The co-cultivation of A. lwoffi and L. paracasei resulted in increased growth activity of L. paracasei in comparison to its growth in a single system. The occurrence of dominant colonies and the development of biofilms were identified as the primary factors contributing to localized corrosion. Furthermore, the combined action of the two bacterial strains exhibited a synergistic effect that exacerbated the corrosion process.

The mechanical properties and crack propagation behavior of aluminum alloys, both with and without corroded surfaces, were thoroughly investigated through molecular dynamic (MD) simulations. The study delved into the effects of corrosion depth and width on the mechanical properties of corroded aluminum alloys. It was found that as the corrosion depth increases, the yield strength experiences an initial decrease followed by a subsequent increase. This can be attributed to the impact of increased corrosion depth on the healing of surface roughness, which ultimately leads to significant changes in yield strength. Furthermore, the presence of corrosion pits was identified as a key factor in regulating the local microstructure evolution within the material, leading to pronounced differences in stress distribution localization. This, in turn, influenced the path of crack propagation within the material. These findings not only contribute to a deeper understanding of the behavior of aluminum alloys under corrosion, but also provide valuable insights for the development of aluminum alloys with enhanced mechanical properties.

Due to the harsh service environment of military aircraft, aluminum alloy on aircraft is prone to corrosion. Maintenance personnel need better rust removal methods to ensure the smooth progress of the flight mission. In this paper, the rust layer on the surface of 7B04 aluminum alloy was cleaned by nanosecond pulsed laser and mechanical grinding. Then the effects on surface morphology, surface roughness, surface hardness, residual stress and corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy were analyzed to determine an improved derusting method and optimize laser cleaning parameter based on the overlap ratio (η). Results showed that mechanical grinding not only did not remove rust completely but also damaged the matrix. When the laser scanning speed was 5650 mm s−1, η was 80%, the rust of the sample was completely removed without damaging the matrix. At the same time, the hardness and corrosion resistance of surface were improved and the appropriate increase of roughness was conducive to the repair of surface coating. When the scanning speed increased and the overlap ratio decreased, there was rust residue which can not meet the requirements of rust removal. When the scanning speed decreased and the overlap ratio increased, the rust was completely removed and the corrosion resistance of the surface was enhanced, but it caused excessive ablation damage to the matrix. And the above two cases will increase the difficulty of coating repair.

Microbial activity leads to degradation of kerosene, corrosion of pipeline and deterioration of stored products. This paper describes the use of the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), turbidimetry, pH measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), polarization curves and surface analysis to study the degradation of kerosene by Lysinibacillus sphaericus and its effect on the corrosion behavior of 7B04 aluminum alloy. A model strain was isolated from the contaminated kerosene and identified as L. sphaericus based on cloning of the 16 S rDNA gene and sequence analysis. FT-IR results showed that aliphatic protons in kerosene were degraded in the presence of L. sphaericus. SEM and EDS analysis showed that L. sphaericus colonized on the surface of aluminum alloy, formed biofilm and produced organic acids in physiological activities. Thus, the drop of pH resulted in the decrease of the cathodic depolarization, indicating the acceleration of corrosion. In addition, electrochemical measurements showed that the corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy was reduced, and the corrosion current density increased after immersion in the L. sphaericus system compared to the value in the sterile system, revealing the L. sphaericus promoted the corrosion of aluminum alloy.

With the development of ultrafast science, free-electron lasers (FELs) with ultrashort pulses have become a state-of-the-art tool in ultrafast phenomena studies. In an externally seeded FEL, the output pulse duration is usually determined both by the seed laser pulse duration and FEL amplification process, which can hardly reach the timescale of a few femtoseconds. In this study, through a simple method of changing the relative time delay and correspondingly the pulse energy of the two seed lasers employed in a seeded FEL, we demonstrated the possibility of generating few-femtosecond soft X-ray pulses and controlling the final FEL pulse durations. Based on theoretical calculations and practical experiments, we conducted a detailed study on the capabilities and limitations to this method with the parameters of the Shanghai Soft X-ray FEL Facility. Start-to-end simulations indicate that we can achieve ultrashort soft X-ray FEL pulses with the pulse duration down to 5.2 fs, and the final pulse durations can also be controlled in terms of relative time delays.

BackgroundThe aortic bulge sign possibly indicates an arterial aneurysm, pseudoaneurysm, aortic dissection, or aortic diverticulum. The aortic diverticulum is a congenital abnormality of the aorta, mainly known as an aneurysmal remnant of the dorsal fourth aortic arch or ductus arteriosus. However, the diverticulum of another part of the aorta has rarely been reported.Case summaryWe report a case of a 24-year-old male with a history of oral ulcer presented with recurrent hyperpyrexia and chest pain. Echocardiography and computed tomography showed the anomalous origin of the coronary arteries, aortic valve vegetations, and a bulge at the aortic root. The patient then received a Bentall procedure. The aorta and aortic valves were replaced by a valved conduit. The bulge with a normal arterial wall at the aortic root was considered to be a diverticulum. The infective endocarditis was verified as a secondary oral-derived streptococcal infection. The patient was discharged 15 days after surgery. Post-operative echocardiography had no positive findings.ConclusionOur case report highlights the role of multimodal cardiovascular imaging for the diagnostic workup of rare disorders, such as the presence of a diverticulum in the aortic root in a patient with endocarditis and anomalous origin of the right coronary artery.

In this study, the broad-spectrum antimicrobial property of dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride (DDBAC) was investigated against three species of bacteria, Lysinibacillus sphaericus (L. sphaericus), Acinetobacter lwoffii (A. lwoffii), and Sediminibacterium salmoneum (S. salmoneum) isolated and purified from a naval aircraft fuel system. Through the inhibition zone method and minimum inhibitory concentration test, DDBAC was found to have a good antimicrobial performance with a minimum inhibitory concentration of 64 mg/L. The influence of DDBAC on the corrosion behavior of fuel tank material was evaluated by electrochemical measurements, such as polarization curve and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The polarization curve indicated that DDBAC suppressed anodic and cathodic reactions as a mixed-type corrosion inhibitor, and the inhibition efficiency was 68.38% at the concentration of 80 mg/L after 28 days of immersion. The EIS results showed that DDBAC inhibited the corrosion of 7B04 aluminum alloy in the concentration range of 40–120 mg/L. The DDBAC adsorption on the aluminum alloy surface was in agreement with the modified Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. The quantum chemical calculations proved that a lone pair of electrons of nitrogen atoms in DDBAC were able to form coordinate bonds with the empty orbital in aluminum, resulting in a tight chemisorption layer on the aluminum alloy surface and corrosion inhibition.

Abstract Background Panretinal photocoagulation treatment (PRP) have been known as a standard treatment for proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) or severe nonproliferative diabetic retinopathy (sNPDR). However, there is no consensus on when PRP should be administrated if anti-VEGF treatment is needed for the concurrent diabetic macular edema (DME). This study is to evaluate the difference between two groups of PRP prior to, or after intravitreal conbercept (IVC) for patients with PDR or sNPDR combined with DME. Methods This was a retrospective study. Fifty-eight eyes with DME secondary to PDR or sNPDR were divided into two groups; the PRP after (PRP-after group), or prior to (PRP-prior group), IVC. Changes in number of IVC injections, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and central subfield macular thickness (CSMT) were compared after 4 weeks, 12 weeks, 1 year, and 2 years from the first IVC injection. Results The mean number of injections in PRP-after group was 4.8 (1 year) and 6.4 (2 year), lower than 6.4 (1 year) and 8.5 (2 year) in PRP-prior group (both p = 0.002). There was no significant difference in change in BCVA and CSMT between two groups after each follow-up. Conclusion PRP after IVC requires less injections but also yields similar visual and anatomic outcome comparing with PRP prior to IVC in patients with diabetic retinopathy combined with DME.

With the rapid development of the construction industry, tower cranes are increasingly used in coastal engineering. However, due to the complexity of their operating environment, tower cranes are vulnerable to typhoons, thunderstorms, and other extreme natural disasters. Therefore, it is becoming increasingly important to carry out safety warnings for the tower crane structure under the action of strong winds. In this paper, a real-time monitoring system for tower responses based on the Internet of things (IoT), which realizes long-term monitoring of the whole process of tower crane operation, was built. Based on the long-term monitoring data and the machine learning algorithm, two tower response prediction models were established. During the transit of super typhoon In-fa, the maximum displacement of the tower structure was predicted in advance, based on the measured wind speed data at the site, which is in good agreement with the displacement data monitored by the IoT. The results show that under strong winds, the non-working tower has a response lag, resulting in the fact that its maximum displacement does not correspond to the maximum wind speed moment at the site. This is mainly due to the weathercock effect of the tower in the non-working condition. The prediction model proposed in this paper can provide timely and effective safety warnings for the tower structure. It also can provide useful engineering references and scientific structural safety warning suggestions for the same type of tower cranes that do not have IoT monitoring systems installed.

In order to study the corrosion time-varying law and fatigue properties of high-strength steel strands used for marine environment structures, the accelerated corrosion test of steel strands was carried out by using a climate simulation chamber, and samples with different corrosion times were taken out for mass weighing, morphology observation, and fatigue testing. Steel strand specimens with different corrosion times (from 1 month to 14 years) for use in the real marine environment were developed in an indoor climate simulation test chamber. The average mass corrosion ratio curve of the steel strands in the marine environment and the changes in the corrosion pit size over time were obtained by performing data analysis based on weight and appearance. The time-varying rule of the fatigue life of coastal-structure steel strands was determined by conducting a fatigue test and fracture scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis of steel strands with different corrosion degrees. The results of the experimental study show that the mass corrosion rate and pit size of steel strands change with the service time as a piecewise function, fatigue performance changes with the service time is as an exponential function, and fatigue performance changes with the mass corrosion ratio are similar to a linear function. Furthermore, the corrosion pit has a significant impact on the fatigue life of the steel strand.

Aiming at solving the problems of small fault data samples and insufficient remaining useful life (RUL) prediction accuracy of nuclear power machinery, a method based on an exponential degradation model is proposed to predict the RUL of equipment after the failure warning system alarm. After data preprocessing, time-domain feature extraction, selection, and dimensionality reduction fusion of multiple degradation variables, the exponential degradation model is constructed based on the Bayesian process, and prior information is used. As an application, the RUL of a nuclear power turbine was calculated based on actual monitoring data, the α−λ precision curve was used to evaluate the prediction effect, and the RUL prediction results verified the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Background: The aging process and declining estradiol levels are two important factors that cause structural brain alterations. Many prior studies have investigated these two elements and revealed controversial results in menopausal women. Here, a cross-sectional study was designed to individually evaluate estradiol-related structural changes in the brain.Methods: A total of 45 early menopausal women and 54 age-matched premenopausal controls were enrolled and subjected to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, blood biochemistry tests, and neuropsychological tests. MRI structural images were analyzed using FreeSurfer to detect changes in subcortical and cortical volumes as well as cortical thickness. Finally, structural brain data as well as clinical and neuropsychological data were used for Pearson’s correlation analyses to individually determine estradiol-related structural and functional changes in the brains of early menopausal women.Results: Compared with the premenopausal controls, the early menopausal women showed significant subcortical volumetric loss in the left amygdala and right amygdala, higher serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, more recognizable climacteric and depressive symptoms, decreased quality of sleep, and decreased working memory and executive functions. Simultaneously, FSH levels were related to lower working memory accuracy and longer working memory reaction time. Decreased subcortical volume in the bilateral amygdala was also related to lower working memory accuracy and longer executive reaction time in early menopausal women.Conclusion: The data suggest that estradiol deficiency in early menopausal women can lead to subcortical volume and functional brain changes, which may contribute to further understanding the neurobiological role of declined estradiol levels in early menopausal women.

Effects of different pressures on the isothermal-solidification process of pure Al were studied by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation using the embedded-atom method (EAM). Al was first subjected to a rapid-cooling process, and then it was annealed under different pressures conditions. Mean first-passage times (MFPT) method, Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) law, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) simulation analysis method were used to qualify the solidification- kinetic processing. Nucleation rate, critical-nucleus size, Avrami exponent, growth exponent, and crystallite size were calculated. Results show that the nucleation rate increases as the pressure increases. The change of critical-nucleation size is not obvious as the pressure increases. With the pressure increasing, growth exponent decreases, indicative of decreased grain-growth rate. It was also found that with the pressure increasing, the Avrami exponent decreases, indicating that the increased pressure has an effect on growth modes during solidification, which changes from three-dimensional growth to one-dimensional growth. Results of XRD simulation shows that with pressure increasing, crystallite size decreases.

In this study, we implement attosecond afterburners in an ultrashort soft X-ray free-electron laser (FEL) to improve the performance of generating attosecond pulses. In this scheme, the FEL pulse produced in the normal radiator section is dumped while the well bunched electron beam is reserved and reused in downstream afterburners. Subsequently, radiation in the afterburners gains rapidly as the bunching factor in the current spike is large, making the radiation pulse much shorter and cleaner than that from a normal radiator. Multi-shot simulations are carried out to demonstrate the performance and stability of the proposed technique.

ObjectivesTo develop and validate an MR radiomics-based nomogram to predict the presence of MVI in patients with solitary HCC and further evaluate the performance of predictors for MVI in subgroups (HCC ≤ 3 cm and > 3 cm).Materials and MethodsBetween May 2015 and October 2020, 201 patients with solitary HCC were analysed. Radiomic features were extracted from precontrast T1WI, arterial phase, portal venous phase, delayed phase and hepatobiliary phase images in regions of the intratumoral, peritumoral and their combining areas. The mRMR and LASSO algorithms were used to select radiomic features related to MVI. Clinicoradiological factors were selected by using backward stepwise regression with AIC. A nomogram was developed by incorporating the clinicoradiological factors and radiomics signature. In addition, the radiomic features and clinicoradiological factors related to MVI were separately evaluated in the subgroups (HCC ≤ 3 cm and > 3 cm).ResultsHistopathological examinations confirmed MVI in 111 of the 201 patients (55.22%). The radiomics signature showed a favourable discriminatory ability for MVI in the training set (AUC, 0.896) and validation set (AUC, 0.788). The nomogram incorporating peritumoral enhancement, tumour growth type and radiomics signature showed good discrimination in the training (AUC, 0.932) and validation sets (AUC, 0.917) and achieved well-fitted calibration curves. Subgroup analysis showed that tumour growth type was a predictor for MVI in the HCC ≤ 3 cm cohort and peritumoral enhancement in the HCC > 3 cm cohort; radiomic features related to MVI varied between the HCC ≤ 3 cm and HCC > 3 cm cohort. The performance of the radiomics signature improved noticeably in both the HCC ≤ 3 cm (AUC, 0.953) and HCC > 3 cm cohorts (AUC, 0.993) compared to the original training set.ConclusionsThe preoperative nomogram integrating clinicoradiological risk factors and the MR radiomics signature showed favourable predictive efficiency for predicting MVI in patients with solitary HCC. The clinicoradiological factors and radiomic features related to MVI varied between subgroups (HCC ≤ 3 cm and > 3 cm). The performance of radiomics signature for MVI prediction was improved in both the subgroups.

A new type of P91 heat-resistant pipeline steel ingot was prepared by feeding Al twisted wire into a steel melt through a multi-point regional micro-supply method, combined with electromagnetic stirring. The type, shape, and size of inclusions in the new P91 steel after forging were then analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The results showed that four types of inclusions were detected in the P91 steel, including: spherical independent Al2O3 inclusions, irregular Al2O3-SiO2 composite inclusions, nearly spherical MgO-Al2O3 composite inclusions, and spherical (Ca, Mg, Al) (O) composite inclusions. Compared with traditional P91 steel, the inclusions in the new P91 steel were significantly refined. Refining mechanisms of inclusion showed that Al2O3 oxide particles distributed dispersedly with fine sizes could be obtained through a multi-point regional micro-supply method. Further, Al2O3 particles act as the nucleation core to form a “core-shell” structure and play the role of a heterogeneous nucleation to refine SiO2, MgO, (Ca, Mg) (O), and other inclusions in the steel.

Isothermal solidification process of pure metal Al was studied by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation using EAM potential. The effects of different cooling rates on the isothermal solidification process of metallic Al were studied. Al was first subjected to a rapid cooling process, and then it was annealing under isothermal conditions. The mean first-passage times (MFPT) method and Johnson-Mehl-Avrami (JMA) law were used to qualify the solidification kinetic processing, and the nucleation rate, critical nucleus size, Avrami exponent and growth exponent of grains were calculated. Results show that the nucleation rate and critical size decrease as the cooling rate increases. Also, an increase in the cooling rate leads to the increase of grain growth rate. At all investigated cooling rates, nucleation and growth processes are in the typical three-dimensional growth mode.

The purpose of this paper was to investigate the influence of long-term corrosion on the deterioration of wind resistance of a steel transmission tower during its service life. An analytical model for predicting the long-term corrosion depth of carbon steel was established, and the corrosion depth of carbon steel in the Ningbo area was predicted based on the local atmospheric environment data. With the help of typhoon full-track simulation and wind field simulation technology, a joint probability distribution model of multidirectional extreme wind speeds was constructed using the t-Copula function to determine the typhoon climate of the transmission tower site. Finite element models of the ZM4 cathead transmission tower under 30/60/90 corrosion years were then established, respectively, according to the predicted corrosion depth of carbon steel in Ningbo. Three damage modes, i.e., minor damage, moderate damage and severe damage, corresponding to the transmission tower under wind loads, were defined, and pushover analyses were used to determine the limit values of each damage mode so as to obtain the typhoon-induced fragility curves of the transmission tower within 30/60/90 corrosion years. The results show that the increase in corrosion age leads to a deterioration in the nominal mechanical properties of the transmission tower components, making the damage probability to the transmission tower increase. Under the typhoon wind loads of a 50-year return period in the most unfavorable wind direction in Ningbo, the probability of moderate damage of the tower is within 10% and the probability of minor damage is controlled between 10% and 40%.

BackgroundPrevious studies have found that women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) have some degree of brain function change as well as cognitive function and emotions, such as poor executive functioning and memory, anxiety and depressive symptoms. However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying these alterations have not yet been clarified.MethodFasting serum hormone testing, neuropsychological testing and resting-state magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) were performed in 41 women with newly diagnosed PCOS and 41 healthy controls matched by age and education during their 2–5 days of menstrual period. Analysis of the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) was used to calculate the seed points. Then, the functional connectivity (FC) values between these abnormal seed points and other voxels in the whole brain were calculated. Finally, the correlations among clinical indexes, neuropsychological evaluation scores, and neuroimaging data were analyzed.ResultsCompared with the control group, the PCOS group showed higher luteinizing hormone (LH) and serum insulin levels, worse sleep quality, increased depressive and anxiety state scores, and memory and executive function impairments. Pearson’s correlation analysis showed that the decreased ALFF value in the left middle frontal gyrus (MFG.L), which is related to poor executive performance and depressive disorders, was negatively correlated with the plasma insulin level in subjects with insulin resistance. Furthermore, the increased FC strength between the MFG.L and left inferior frontal gyrus (IFG.L) was positively correlated with the serum testosterone level. The enhanced FC strength between the left posterior cingulate gyrus (PCG.L) and triangular part of the left inferior frontal gyrus (IFGtriang.L) was negatively correlated with the plasma LH level. When use the right middle occipital gyrus (MOG.R) as the seed point, the FC strength with the right inferior occipital gyrus (IOG.R), which is associated with impaired memory, was decreased.ConclusionThe ALFF and FC results elucidated brain functional abnormalities at the regional and network levels in women with PCOS, while correlation analyses simultaneously demonstrated that these alterations were associated with serum hormones and cognitive function. These results may provide useful information regarding the potential mechanisms of cognitive impairment and emotional changes in this population.

The purpose of this paper was to provide a new approach to achieve quantitative and accurate typhoon loss assessment of disaster-bearing bodies at township-level resolution. Based on the policy insurance data of Ningbo city, this paper took rural housing as the target disaster-bearing body and analyzed the aggregated data of disaster losses such as payout amount and insured loss rate of rural housing in Ningbo area under the influence of 25 typhoons during 2014–2019. The intensity data of disaster-causing factors such as the maximum average wind speed in Ningbo area under the influence of 25 typhoons were simulated and generated with the wind field engineering model, and a township-level high-resolution rural housing typhoon loss assessment model was established using a RBF artificial neural network. It was found that the insured loss rate of rural housing under wind damage was higher in the townships of southern Ningbo than in the townships of northern Ningbo, and the townships with larger insured loss rates were concentrated in mountainous or coastal areas that are prone to secondary disasters under the attack of the typhoon’s peripheral spiral wind and rain belt. The RBF neural network can effectively establish a typhoon loss assessment model from the causal factors to the losses of the disaster-bearing bodies, and the RBF neural network has a faster convergence speed and a smaller overall prediction error than the commonly used BP neural network.

The realization and stable operation of Continuous Rotating Detonation (CRD) in the annular combustor fueled by hydrocarbon-air are still challenging. For further investigation of this issue, a series of ethylene-air CRD tests with the variation of combustor width is conducted, and the effects of combustor width are well analyzed based on high-frequency pressure and high-speed photograph images. The results show that the combustor width plays a significant role in the realization and sustainability of the ethylene-air CRD. In this paper, the critical combustor width for the CRD realization and stable single wave are 20 mm and 25 mm, respectively. In wide combustors, the backward-facing step at the combustor forepart makes the main flow slow down, and thus, the mixing quality is promoted. Besides, the pilot flame at the recirculation zone contributes to sustaining the CRD wave. As the width increases, the propagation mode changes from counter-rotating two-wave mode to single wave mode with higher propagation velocity and stability. The highest propagation velocity reaches 1325.56 m/s in the 40 mm wide combustor, accounting for 71.51% of the corresponding Chapman-Jouguet velocity. Despite large combustor volume, high combustor pressure is obtained in detonation combustion mode indicating that a better propulsive performance could be achieved by CRD.

Background: Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) usually display cognitive impairments, such as memory loss, attention deficits, and declining executive functions, particularly during the active stage of the disease. However, the potential neurological mechanisms of these symptoms remain unclear.Method: Forty-one patients with mildly to moderately active UC, as well as 42 matched healthy controls, were recruited for an examination using psychological scales, cognitive function tests and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Seed points were identified via analysis of amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), and functional connectivity (FC) was calculated between these seed regions and other voxels in the whole brain. Correlation analyses were performed among clinical indexes, neuropsychological assessments and neuroimaging data.Result: Compared with the healthy controls, patients with UC exhibited lower ALFF values in the bilateral hippocampal/parahippocampal (HIPP/ParaHIPP) region and higher ALFF values in the left posterior cingulate cortex (PCC.L) and left middle frontal gyrus (MFG.L). With HIPP/ParaHIPP as the seed point, the strengths of the FC in the bilateral middle frontal gyri (MFG), anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), and left caudate nucleus (CAU.L) increased; using the PCC.L as the seed point, the strengths of the FC in the middle cingulate cortex (MCC) and the left angular gyrus (AUG.L) increased. These abnormal brain regions were mainly located in the limbic system. By analyzing the correlations between these brain regions and behavioral data, we observed a close correlation between decreased HIPP/ParaHIPP activity and memory loss; increased PCC activity and strength of FC with the AUG.L were related to dysfunction of executive function and attention network in patients with UC.Conclusion: Based on these results, the limbic lobe might be the core of the brain-gut axis (BGA) and play an important role in cognitive impairments, suggesting potential mechanisms for cognitive impairment in patients with UC in the active stage of the disease.

Background: Early postmenopausal women frequently suffer from cognitive impairments and emotional disorders, such as lack of attention, poor memory, deficits in executive function and depression. However, the underlying mechanisms of these impairments remain unclear.Method: Forty-three early postmenopausal women and forty-four age-matched premenopausal controls underwent serum sex hormone analysis, neuropsychological testing and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). Degree centrality (DC) analysis was performed to confirm the peak points of the functionally abnormal brain areas as the centers of the seeds. Subsequently, the functional connectivity (FC) between these abnormal seeds and other voxels across the whole brain was calculated. Finally, the sex hormone levels, neuroimaging indices and neuropsychological data were combined to detect potential correlations.Results: Compared with the premenopausal controls, the early postmenopausal women exhibited significantly higher serum follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) levels, more severe climacteric and depressive symptoms, worse sleep quality and more extensive cognitive impairments. Concurrently, the neuroimaging results showed elevated DC values in the left amygdala (AMYG.L), reduced DC values in the left middle occipital gyrus (MOG.L) and right middle occipital gyrus (MOG.R). When we used the AMYG.L as the seed point, FC with the left insula (INS.L), bilateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) and right superior frontal gyrus (SFG.R) was increased; these regions are related to depressive states, poor sleep quality and decreased executive function. When bilateral MOG were used as the seed points, FC with left inferior parietal gyrus (IPG.L), this area closely associated with impaired memory, was decreased.Conclusion: These results illuminated the regional and network-level brain dysfunction in early postmenopausal women, which might provide information on the underlying mechanisms of the different cognitive impairments and emotional alterations observed in this group.
