14. A New L-Shaped Open-Slot Antenna for Diversity Applications of Operated Frequency and Circular Polarization.

Abstract

This paper presents a novel small differentially-fed open-slot antenna for diversity of the operated frequency and circular polarization. The proposed antenna structure, which consists of an L-shaped open slot and two bent feeding lines, provides two separate effective bandwidths. The proposed antenna achieves the operation bandwidths of a global positioning system (GPS) and satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) service system. To excite the even and odd modes for bandwidth enhancement, a rectangular patch was embedded in the vertical segment of the L-shaped open slot, thereby forming a coplanar-waveguide topology. An additional rectangular patch was placed above the open slot to increase the interport isolation performance between the two feeding ports. After optimization, the measurement results indicated that the final open-slot antenna provided −10-dB reflection coefficient (S11) bands from 1.29 to 1.70 GHz for the GPS operation and from 2.09 to 2.56 GHz for the SDAR application. Measured 3 dB axial-ratio bandwidths of the proposed structure were 410 MHz (28.5%) from 1.23 to 1.64 GHz and 430 MHz (18.4%) from 2.12 to 2.55 GHz for right- and left-hand circular polarization, respectively. Abstract

BackgroundAdult asthma is phenotypically heterogeneous with unclear aetiology. We aimed to evaluate the potential contribution of environmental exposure and its ensuing response to asthma and its heterogeneity.MethodsEnvironmental risk was evaluated by assessing the records of National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD) and residence-based air pollution (particulate matter with diameter less than 2.5 micrometers (PM2.5) and PM2.5-bound polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs)), integrating biomonitoring analysis of environmental pollutants, inflammatory markers and sphingolipid metabolites in case–control populations with mass spectrometry and ELISA. Phenotypic clustering was evaluated by t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding (t-SNE) integrating 18 clinical and demographic variables.FindingsIn the NHIRD dataset, modest increase in the relative risk with time-lag effect for emergency (N=209 837) and outpatient visits (N=638 538) was observed with increasing levels of PM2.5and PAHs. Biomonitoring analysis revealed a panel of metals and organic pollutants, particularly metal Ni and PAH, posing a significant risk for current asthma (ORs=1.28–3.48) and its severity, correlating with the level of oxidative stress markers, notably Nε-(hexanoyl)-lysine (r=0.108–0.311, p<0.05), but not with the accumulated levels of PM2.5exposure. Further, levels of circulating sphingosine-1-phosphate and ceramide-1-phosphate were found to discriminate asthma (p<0.001 and p<0.05, respectively), correlating with the levels of PAH (r=0.196, p<0.01) and metal exposure (r=0.202–0.323, p<0.05), respectively, and both correlating with circulating inflammatory markers (r=0.186–0.427, p<0.01). Analysis of six phenotypic clusters and those cases with comorbid type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) revealed cluster-selective environmental risks and biosignatures.InterpretationThese results suggest the potential contribution of environmental factors from multiple sources, their ensuing oxidative stress and sphingolipid remodeling to adult asthma and its phenotypic heterogeneity.

Abstract

In this work, several techniques are presented to switch operated bandwidth and circularly polarized pattern of the coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed monopole antenna. A fork-like conducted strip monopole is utilized for the radiating element. Two p-i-n (PIN) diodes are embedded in the antenna structure to realize the switchable capability of frequency band and circular polarization. By electronically turning on or off these diodes, a right-hand circularly polarized (RHCP) wave at 1.57 GHz for the global positioning system (GPS) is not only generated, but a left-hand circularly polarized (LHCP) wave at 2.33 GHz for satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) service system is also achieved. Measured results show that the 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidths are 110 MHz (1.49–1.60 GHz, 7.1%) around 1.57 GHz and 70 MHz (2.29–2.36 GHz, 3.0%) around 2.33 GHz, whereas the impedance bandwidths are 430 MHz (1.38–1.81 GHz) and 670 MHz (2.05–2.72 GHz). Abstract

The design and performance of a triple‐band ground radiation antenna with a compact balun are shown in this paper. A microstrip balun is integrated with a modified rectangular ground plane has provided wideband frequency characteristics. With the help of the theory of the characteristic mode, the resonance phenomenon of the rectangular ground plane is analyzed. An eight‐like‐loop slit is embedded in the ground plane to excite multiple resonant modes. In, addition, by etching two rectangular slots at two terminals of the eight‐like‐loop slit, the capacitance of the ground‐plane resonator decreases such that the impedance‐matching condition in the upper‐frequency band can be improved. Finally, a triple‐band frequency performance is derived by embedding a simple matching circuit. The proposed antenna achieves the measured impedance bandwidths from 1.02 to 1.06, from 1.35 to 1.62, and from 1.96 to 2.55 GHz.
