Abstract

The family of bulk forming technologies comprises processes characterised by a complex three-dimensional stress and strain state. Besides shape and material properties, also residual stresses are modified during a bulk metal forming process. The state of residual stresses affects important properties, like fatigue behaviour and corrosion resistance. An adjustment of the residual stresses is possible through subsequent process steps such as heat treatments or mechanical surface modification technologies, like shot peening and deep rolling. However, these additional manufacturing steps involve supplementary costs, longer manufacturing times and harmful effects on the product quality. Therefore, an optimized strategy consists in a targeted introduction of residual stresses during the forming processes. To enable this approach, a fundamental understanding of the underlying mechanisms of residual stress generation in dependence of the forming parameters is necessary. The current state of the art is reviewed in this paper. Strategies for the manipulation of the residual stresses in different bulk forming processes are classified according to the underlying principles of process modification.

39. Composite Casting and Characterization of Cu-Al Bilayer Compounds

Abstract

In this study, an experimental die casting setup is designed and various composite casting experiments are performed to create Cu-Al bilayer compounds. The influence of thermal conditions and Al/Cu volume ratio on the growth of intermetallic phases and the mechanical and electrical properties is investigated. A distinctive correlation, especially with the thickness of eutectic phase, is detected that increases with higher process temperatures and volume ratios. An increased phase thickness leads to higher electrical resistance, but on the other hand, no clear influence on shear or bending strength could be determined. However, large layers of brittle and hard phases negatively influence a successive forming process.

Abstract

Im Zuge der vierten Industrierevolution im Presswerk müssen robuste Messkonzepte zur Prozessdatenerfassung entwickelt werden. Um der Forderung nach einem presswerkstauglichen Messsystem gerecht zu werden, liegt der Fokus dieser Arbeit auf der Entwicklung eines wartungsfreundlichen und leicht zu integrierenden Platineneinlaufwegmesssystems. Dies wird mit dem Einsatz von Sensorkameras zur Detektion der Anhaukante in Nachfolgewerkzeugen erreicht. In view of the fourth industrial revolution in automotive press shops, robust measurement methods are needed for acquiring process data. To meet the requirements of press shops, a method for measuring the material flow has been developed which is easy to instal and maintain. This method uses sensor cameras in follow-up press tools to detect the forming line of a part.
