2. Effect of Sea Buckthorn and Vitamin E on Growth Performance of Acipenser stellatus (Pallas 1771) Juveniles

Addition of natural additives (prebiotics, probiotics, phytobiotics) in fish feed is a benefic method because it leads to improved growth performance of fish reared in intensive production systems. Sea buckthorn is one of the most commonly phytobiotics used in aquaculture because of its antioxidant, antimicrobial, immunostimulant, anti-stress, cytoprotective, liver and tissue regeneration properties. Sea buckthorn berries are rich in vitamins (B, C, E and K), flavonoids, carotenoids, tocopherols and many volatile compounds. In this context the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of dietary vitamin E (500 mg/kg diet) and sea buckthorn on growth performance and survival of the A. stellatus juveniles reared in a recirculating aquaculture system. The experiment took place in the recirculating pilot system of “Dunărea de Jos” University of Galaţi. In order to emphasize the influence of the above mentioned immunostimulants on sevruga fingerlings with different genetic background, four experimental groups from different genitors (V1: ♀2 Danube x ♂1 Aquaculture, V2: ♀1 Danube x ♂1 Danube, V3: ♀1 Danube x ♂2 Aquaculture and V4: ♀2 Danube x ♂2 Danube) have been used. At the end of the experiment no significant differences (p>0.05) were observed in terms of final mean weight, individual growth rate, SGR, FCR, PER, between the sevruga fingerlings obtained from wild genitors, comparing with those obtained from aquaculture genitors.

Public health issues related to chronic pain management and the risks of opioid misuse and abuse remain a challenge for practitioners. Data on the prevalence of disorders related to the use of prescribed opioids in patients suffering from chronic pain remains rather patchy, in particular because of the absence of a gold standard for their clinical assessment. We estimated the prevalence of prescription opioid misuse (POM), using a specific and validated opioid misuse scale (POMI-5F scale), in adults with chronic non-cancer pain. Nine-hundred-fifty-one (951) patients with opioids prescription and followed-up in pain clinics and addictology centers for chronic non-cancer pain (CNCP) completed the survey interview. The results suggest that 44.4% of participants have POM, accompanied by overuse (42.5%), use of opioids for effects other than analgesia (30.9%), withdrawal syndrome (65.7%), and craving (6.9%). The motivations cited for POM, apart from pain relief, were to calm down, relax and improve mood. POM was shown to be related to male sex (OR 1.52), young age (OR 2.21) and the presence of nociplastic pain (OR 1.62) of severe intensity (OR 2.31), codeine use (OR 1.72) and co-prescription of benzodiazepines (OR 1.59). Finally, despite the presence of three subgroups of misusers, no factor was associated with the intensity of misuse, reinforcing the view that distinguishing between strong and weak opioids is not appropriate in the context of use disorder. Almost half of patients with CNCP misuse their prescribed opioid. Practitioners should be attentive of profiles of patients at risk of POM, such as young, male patients suffering from severe nociplastic pain, receiving prescription for codeine and a co-prescription for benzodiazepine. We encourage French-speaking practitioners to use the POMI-5F scale to assess the presence of POM in their patients receiving opioid-based therapy.Clinical Trial Registrationclinicaltrials.gov, identifier NCT03195374

З метою розробки маловідходної технології отримання олієрозчинної фенолформальдегідної смоли для захисних лакофарбових покрить досліджений процес конденсації пара-трет-бутилфенолу з параформом у лужному і кислому середовищах з використанням каталізаторів – аміаку, третинних амінів та щавлевої кислоти. У якості реакційного середовища використовували смольну воду попередніх синтезів з урахуванням в ній залишкової кількості вихідних реагентів. Показана можливість багаторазового використання смольної води у замкненому технологічному циклі. З'ясована необхідність попередньої деполімеризації параформу у разі конденсації у кислому середовищі. На підставі даних ЯМР 1Н та ІЧ-спектральних досліджень зроблені висновки щодо відмінностей ланцюгової будови синтезованих олігомерів: кінцеві складові ланки олігомерних молекул зразків, отриманих у кислому середовищі, є переважно 1, 2, 4-заміщенними фенольними структурами, а значну долю зв'язувальних містків між фенольними циклами у ланцюзі складають метиленетерні фрагменти; кінцевими складовими ланками в молекулах олігомерів, отриманих у лужному середовищі, є гідроксиметиленові групи, а фенольні ланки зв'язані переважно метиленовими містками.

The society we live in today has been profundly shaped by the clash of cultures and civilizations and more recently, by ideological conflicts. It is also the case of the United States of America, whose history and evolution was marked by the continuous reglementations of the structure and relations between the white americans and the afro-americans: the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power movement The following paper aims to explore this issue through the lenses of two important race theories,both sharing a very important concept when discussig racial conflict -double consciousness, each of them being linked to a main afro-american movement in the USA. I shall try to understand how the concept of race and the attempts to fight racism within the american society in the 20th century, have influenced the political discourse and also, the social and cultural context, throughout the last decades. In doing so, i will draw inspiration from the socio-historical constructivist race theory in explaining the evolution and impact of the Civil Rights Movement, and from Fanon’s critical theory in exploring the evolution and the outcome of the Black Power Movement. The main thesis of this paper is that, starting with the end of the 19th century, all the eliberation and empowerment efforts of the black community in the american society, coagulated in the mentioned ideological movements, had a powerfull impact on the social, cultural and political evolution of the United States, materialised in the introduction of Black Studies in universities, political representation and electoral winnings – culminating with the election of Barack Obama as the President of the USA.

Aim. To study the efficacy of ivabradine in the prevention of cardiotoxic effects due to chemotherapeutic drugs in patients with breast cancer. Material and methods. The open randomized uncontrolled study included 55 patients with breast cancer who had to undergo chemotherapy by anthracyclines. The inclusion criterion was a heart rate >70 beats/min. Collection of complaints and anamnesis, ECG, echocardiography, routine laboratory tests were performed in all patients initially and after 1, 3, 6 and 12 months. All patients were treated with polychemotherapy with anthracyclines in combination with cyclophosphamide and fluorouracil. The patients included into the study were randomized into two groups. Patients of the main group (n=23) were additionally prescribed ivabradine in a daily dose of 10 mg followed by a dose titration. Patients of the control group (n=32) received only polychemotherapy. Results. In the main group a decrease in heart rate was observed already by the first month (from 83.6±9.5 to 67.1±7.5 beats/min, p0.05). A significant change in the LV ejection fraction was not found in both groups. Significant differences in LV global longitudinal strain were found between groups in 1, 3 and 6 months of observation (p70 beats/min was safe and did not cause bradycardia. Ivabradine use was accompanied by a significant reduction in a number of patients with complaints of palpitation, contributed to the preservation of normalLV global longitudinal deformation in chemotherapy, while the control group had negative changes with a maximum by the 6th month of follow-up.

7. Styromal based polymer films modified with copper microparticles

A method for the synthesis of polymeric film based on a copolymer of styrene and maleic anhydride (stiromal) and oligodiol was suggested. Block copolymer of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol was used as oligodiol. It was shown that synthesized materials have moderate water swelling capacity in and ion-exchange properties. Static exchange capacity in 0.1 mol/L NaOH aqueous solution is within the interval of 1.44–1.76 mmol/g. At air-dry state films have a tensile strength of 4–6.6 MPa and an elongation at break tensile 38–61 %. The effect of stiromal molecular weight and oligodiol type, and conditions of film formation on ion-exchange and physical-mechanical properties of the films was studied. The synthesized material appeared to be able to sorb Cu2+-ions from neutral and acidic solutions. The distribution coefficient in case of sorption from slightly acidic solution with Cu2+ concentration of 50 mg/L was 48–50. Composite material with a metal submicroparticles uniformly distributed in the polymeric matrix was obtained by chemical reduction of copper ions sorbed. It was found that the film acquires electric conductivity, as a result of filling of metal particles, which allows copper electrodeposition on the film surface.

The film materials with ion-exchanged properties on the basis of the polymer, obtained by condensation of oligoepichlorohydrined epoxide and piperazine with the subsequent chemical modification have been synthesized. Compounds which have different thermodynamic affinity with the polymer and each other have been used as modifiers. It has been shown that the possibility of overcoming the lack of compatibility of the components by selection of the order of their combination. The result of the combination can be predicted by the Hildebrand parameter values of the ingredients, intermediate products and prepolymers based on them. The properties of synthesized materials can be adjusted by selection of combinations of chemical modifiers: toluilenediisocyanate, epoxyed soybean oil and tetraethoxysilane.

During the past five years, a team of Agrogeological Division of the Hungarian Geological and Geophysical Institute has studied the nutrient elements potential of the East-Hungarian sandy soils. Among these elements, the natural potassium sources are insufficient, i.e. neither the soil forming sediments, nor the groundwater cannot satisfy the consumption of the plants. Therefore, the unique K-source seems to be the meteoric water. The authors consulting more than three hundred geochemical, ecological, meteorological, astrophysical and radiological articles, identified the origin of atmospheric K-bearing aerosols. Thus, in this paper, the K-salts, as the main aerosol particles in ice and rain nucleation, with stratospheric origin were discussed, mainly based on references. In the stratosphere, the solid particles show a well expressed stratification: aerosols from desertic, volcanic and anthropogenic origin are concentrated mainly at 20 km altitude, the cosmogenic particles are observable at 50-60 km, while the measurements prove a relatively uniform distribution of K bearing particles, decreasing abruptly in the troposphere, under cloud formation level. K-bearing aerosols form micron sized, soft flakes built up by very thin acicular crystals. They represent ideal nuclei for ice split and rain drop formation. Therefore, we suppose, that the stratospheric potassium is formed by cosmic radiation induced Ar/K reaction, the reverse of K/Ar decay. The increased K+ content in rainwater (or snow) samples above of highly populated centers is explained by the same Ar/K reaction, which is induced by low energy electromagnetic waves (UHF smog) due to (experimented) their Tunnel effect. - Abstract
The manner of studying of the fracture modes could be done through fractography. Fractography is the study of fracture surface morphologies and it gives an insight into damage and failure mechanisms, underpinning the development of physically-based failure criteria. In composites research it provides a crucial link between predictive models and experimental observations. Fractographic methods are routinely used to determine the cause of failure in all engineering structures, especially in product failure and the practice of forensic engineering or failure analysis. In material science research, fractography is used to develop and evaluate theoretical models of crack growth behavior. One of the aims of fractographic examination is to determine the cause of failure by studying the characteristics of a fracture surface. Different types of crack growth produce characteristic features on the surface, which can be used to help identify the failure mode. The overall pattern of cracking can be more important than a single crack, however, especially in the case of brittle behavior materials. Initial fractographic examination is commonly carried out on a macro scale utilizing low power optical microscopy and oblique lighting techniques to identify the extent of cracking, possible modes and likely origins. When it is needed to identify the nature of failure, an analysis at high magnification is required and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) seems to be the best choice. The problem of fracture behavior of biometallic materials is a real one, being well and repeatedly presented in literature. Variations in alloy compositions can lead to subtle differences in mechanical, physical, or electrochemical properties. However, these differences are minor compared with the potential variability caused by differences in fabrication methodology, heat treatment, cold working, and surface finishing, where surface treatments are particularly important for corrosion and wear properties. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to summarize the different types of metals and alloys used as biomaterials, the corrosion of metals in the human body, and different failure damages of metallic implants.

Introduction: As the incidence of cancer, the bladder neoplasia ranks 9, being on 7 place in man and 17 in woman. Bladder cancer has been associated with many exogenous risk factors as smoking and occupational exposure.(1) The glutathione S-transferase (GST) represent a class of enzymes which conjugate the glutathione, resulted from detoxification of carcinogens and facilitates their removal from the body. Polymorphism of genes encoding GSTP1, GSTM1, GSTT1 was correlated with the risk of bladder cancer but the results of the studies have often been inconclusive.( 2,3) Materials and methods: There have been included in the study 71 patients with superficial bladder cancer who were diagnosed and operated in Oradea Urology Clinic, to which the following parameters were followed: sex, age, living environment, cellular differentiation. Results: The subjects were grouped by age, sex, living environment, and the degree of cell differentiation. Depending on the presence or absence of T1 and M1 allele have resulted 4 variants: T+M+, T+M-, T-M+, T-M-. Conclusions: T+M- genetic variant is most common in patients with superficial bladder cancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Objective: We aimed to investigate the reproducibility of vena contracta (VC) in mitral regurgitation (MR) of different etiology between an inexperienced and an experienced echocardiographer. Background: MR is the second most common valvular heart disease in Europe that requires surgery. Echocardiography is the principal modality of investigation when MR is suspected. In European and American guidelines VC is described as one of the most feasible echocardiographic measurements in the assessment of MR. There is a lack of publications regarding intra-observer variability and studies comparing inexperienced and experienced echocardiographers for the assessment of VC. Method/Material: VC of 55 recorded 2D echocardiograms with known MR of different degree and etiology were analyzed from parasternal long axis view, 4- and 3 chamber view. The mean value of the different plane measurements of each exam was used for statistical analysis. Analyses were made by an inexperienced (A) fellow echocardiographer (<100 studies) and a level 3 experienced (B) echocardiographer. Measurements of VC by the 2 echocardiographers were performed blinded to clinical data. Measurements were performed with at least 2 weeks apart, blinded to the first measurement. Results: Three exams were excluded (feasibility 95%) from statistical analysis because adequate color Doppler images from all tree planes was not available. The inter class correlation (ICC) between the first and second analysis was (r=0.75; 95% CI -1.1 to 1.7mm) for A and (r=0.94; 95% CI -0.76 to 0.84mm) for B. There was good ICC between the 2 echocardiographers (r=0.78; 95% CI -1.5 to 1.3mm). The intra observer variability was 11.1% for A and 6.1% for B. The inter observer variability was 11.7% (p>0.05 for all). Conclusion: Measurement of vena contracta in mitral regurgitation is a feasible semi-quantitative parameter. Good correlation and narrow limits of agreement between a novice and an experienced echocardiographer was demonstrated in our study.
