Abstract

We aimed to investigate the effects of Bacillus cereus YB1 on the growth, intestinal digestive enzyme activity, liver antioxidant enzyme activity, and intestinal tissue structure of juvenile black rockfish (Sebastes schlegelii). A 50‐day feeding experiment was conducted. Feeding was conducted in four diet groups: control group with no YB1 supplement in diet and three treatment groups E‐L, E‐M, and E‐H containing 105, 106, and 107 CFU/g YB1, respectively. The results revealed that the weight gain and specific growth rate of juvenile fish significantly increased, while the feed coefficient was reduced in all three diet treatment groups. This indicated that the growth of black rockfish was significantly and positively affected by YB1 feeding. Enzyme activity in the intestinal tract was not significantly affected by YB1. However, the activity of protease, amylase, and lipase increased because of YB1 treatment, except for the proteases in the E‐M diet group. Meanwhile, no significant differences were recorded in the activities of the antioxidant enzymes in liver, but the level of catalase, superoxide dismutase, and malondialdehyde activities in treatments shows a better performance compared with the control in overall perspective. Furthermore, the structural features of the intestine (i.e., number of intestinal villi, length of gut villi, and thickness of muscularis) was significantly elevated with the inclusion of B. cereus YB1 in the diet. These results reveal that dietary supplementation of B. cereus YB1 is beneficial to the boosting of enzymatic activities and structure of intestinal tissue as well as the antioxidative ability of liver tissue. Abstract

Seven new nitrogen-containing heptacyclic oligophenalenone dimers, talauromides A–G (1-7), together with known compounds bacillisporins A and B (8and 9), talaromycesones C and B (10and 11), duclauxin (12) and lamellicolic anhydride (13), were isolated from the soil derived-fungus Talaromyces stipitatusBMC-16. Their chemical structures were determined based on spectroscopic analysis data. The absolute configurations were elucidated by chemical approaches and the comparison of CD spectra with related compounds. Compounds 3, 8and 11exhibited inhibitory activity on the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in zebrafish embryos at a concentration of 20 μM.

Abstract

The use of trastuzumab emtansine (T‐DM1) has revealed significant efficacy in HER2‐positive metastatic breast cancer (MBC). However, optimal therapeutic strategies following T‐DM1 failure remain a subject of debate in clinical practice. In this multicenter, retrospective, real‐world study, we sought to examine the effectiveness and safety of tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) as a therapeutic strategy in HER2‐positive MBC who developed T‐DM1 resistance. Between September 2018 and December 2022, 66 patients were enrolled. The median progression‐free survival of TKIs‐based therapy was 10.1 months (95% CI, 4.7–15.6). Objective response rate and clinical benefit rate were 18.2 and 66.7%, respectively. TKIs‐based therapy demonstrated better effectiveness in patients who had previously derived benefit from T‐DM1 and featured acquired resistance to trastuzumab. The most common adverse events were diarrhea (36, 54.5%), hand‐foot syndrome (31, 47.0%), and leucopenia (30, 45.5%). In conclusion, TKIs‐based therapy showed promising effectiveness and safety in HER2‐positive MBC patients after T‐DM1 failure. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

48. Acute Effect of Brief Mindfulness-Based Intervention Coupled with Fluid Intake on Athletes’ Cognitive Function

Abstract

During the half time of intermittent team sports, substantial physiological changes relating to acid–base balance and glycemic response affect the second-half performance. Refuel and rehydrate strategy is therefore necessary to be investigated. This field experiment assessed the acute effect of a brief mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) coupled with fluid intake on players’ cognitive function in a simulated soccer game. In a single-blinded, randomized, cross-over experiment, 14 male players received three treatments [Control: noncarbohydrate solution + traveling introduction audio; CHO: Carbohydrate (CHO)–electrolyte solution + traveling introduction audio; and CHO-M: CHO–electrolyte solution + MBI] during a simulated half-time break of a soccer game. Participants’ mindfulness level, blood glucose and lactate, rating of perceived exertion, and cognitive function performance assessed by the Stroop effect task (ST), Corsi block-tapping test (CBT), and rapid visual information processing task (RVIPT) were immediately measured before, during, and after the trial. Repeated measure ANOVA was used for statistical analysis. The results revealed that: (1) in ST, the CHO_M group performed better than the Control group and marginally better than the CHO group; (2) in CBT, both the Control group and CHO-M group responded faster in the posttest than in the pretest; however, the performance of the CHO group remained the same; (3) the CHO group spent less time on missing numbers in post RVIPT compared with the other two groups. In conclusion, findings of this study provided a preliminary evidence of the positive effect of MBI coupled with CHO intake on athletes’ cognitive function, with both positive and negative effect of CHO ingestion.
