Background: Brain iron homeostasis is disrupted in neurodegeneration and areas of iron overload partially overlap with regions of amyloid and tau burden in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Previous studies demonstrated alterations in brain iron accumulation in AD using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM). Objective: Here, we investigate brain alterations of QSM values in AD and non-AD patients as compared to healthy controls (HC) in the superior temporal sulcus and its banks (BANKSSTS), one of the top AD-affected regions. Methods: Thirty-four patients who underwent brain MRI including a multi-echo gradient-echo sequence were subdivided into AD (n = 19) and non-AD (n = 15) groups according to their clinical profile, CSF (Aβ 42/40) and/or amyloid-PET status. Ten HC were also included. QSM values were extracted from left and right BANKSSTS and compared among groups. Correlation and binomial regression analyses between QSM values and CSF-AD biomarkers were conducted. Results: QSM in left BANKSSTS was significantly different among groups (p = 0.003, H = 11.40), being higher in AD. QSM values in left BANKSSTS were correlated with Aβ 42 (rho –0.55, p = 0.005), Aβ 42/40 (rho –0.66, p < 0.001), pTau (rho 0.63, p < 0.001), tTau (rho 0.56, p = 0.005), tTau/Aβ 42 (rho 0.68, p < 0.001) and pTau/Aβ 42 (rho 0.71, p < 0.001). No correlations between QSM values and amyloid-PET SUVR in the left BANKSSTS were found. QSM values in left BANKSSTS showed good accuracy in discriminating AD (AUC = 0.80, CI95 % [0.66–0.93]). Higher QSM values were independent predictors of Aβ 42 (B = 0.63, p = 0.032), Aβ 42/40 (B = 0.81, p = 0.028), pTau (B = 0.96, p = 0.046), tTau (B = 0.55, p = 0.027), and tTau/Aβ 42 (B = 1.13, p = 0.042) positivity. Conclusion: Our preliminary data support the potential role of increased QSM values in the left BANKSSTS as an auxiliary imaging biomarker in AD diagnosis.

The Psycho-Social Aspects of Facebook Use (PSAFU) scale was developed by Bodroza and Jovanovic (2016) to comprehensively measure psychological and social aspects of the users? Facebook (FB) experiences i.e. compensatory use of FB, self-presentation on FB, socializing, and seeking sexual partners through FB, FB addiction, and FB profile as the virtual self. The scale was previously validated on two Serbian samples. The aim of this study was to examine the validity of the PSAFU scale across multiple cultures, i.e. develop a version of the scale that would be suitable for the cross-cultural study of FB behaviors. The sample consisted of 1.632 respondents from Croatia, Italy, Iran, Serbia, and the UK. Administered questionnaires consisted of the PSAFU scale (Bodroza & Jovanovic, 2016), the Big Five Inventory (BFI; John et al., 1991), the Narcissistic Personality Inventory 16 (NPI-16; Ames et al., 2006), socio-demographic, and FB use questions (e.g., time spent on FB on a daily basis, frequency of posting, and number of FB friends). After some modifications and exclusion of the Virtual Self scale, the results of multigroup confirmatory factor analysis show that the PSAFU scale is cross-culturally invariant for the cultures included in this study and suitable for use in them. The remaining dimensions of revised PSAFU scale (PSAFU-R) have statistically significant relationships with measured personality traits and with indicators of FB use, although considerable cross-cultural variations were obtained.

In recent years, a growing number of attachment-based studies have contributed to the understanding of both substance and behavioral addictions. Although gambling is a form of addictive behavior widespread all over the world, both among young people and adults, the evidence on the association between attachment-related phenomena and gambling has not yet been systematized in literature. The aim of the present study, therefore, is to provide a systematic literature review aimed at summarizing the empirical evidence on this topic. Following the updated 2020 PRISMA guidelines, a systematic search in four electronic scientific databases (Scopus, PubMed, PsycInfo and Web of Science) was conducted. After removing duplicates, 146 records were double-screened, with 12 articles meeting the inclusion criteria. Additionally, by means of a backward search a further article was selected. Altogether, 13 articles were selected for the present systematic review. With few exceptions, the results underline the significant role played by attachment-related phenomena in gambling behaviors, highlighting that specific attachment contexts have a different influence on gambling, also depending on whether gamblers are youths or adults. In particular, while secure attachment has proven to be a protective factor for the onset of gambling behavior, insecure attachment has emerged to be a vulnerability factor in two ways. On the one hand, it directly favors gambling behaviors; on the other, it affects coping strategies and the individual’s ability to identify and regulate emotions, which in turn predict gambling. Limitations, strengths, and implications of the present systematic review are discussed.

Previous studies have shown that body shame and body image control in photos are associated with Problematic Social Networking Sites Use. The current study aims to build upon previous evidence by examining the role of perfectionistic self-presentation in the relationship between body shame, on the one hand, and body image control in photos and Problematic Social Networking Sites Use, on the other hand. The sample included 695 participants (%F = 61.29; Mage = 21.01 ± 5.05; age range = 14–30). The hypothesized serial mediation effect of perfectionistic self-presentation style and body image control in photos in the association between body shame and Problematic Social Networking Sites Use was significant (indirect effect = 0.05; 95% CI: [0.02, 0.07] for young women; indirect effect = 0.02; 95% CI: [0.002, 0.04] for young men). The present study contributes toward the understanding of the possible predictors of Problematic Social Networking Sites Use and leads novel findings in the field of self-objectification research. Regardless of gender, young people who feel ashamed of their body may develop a perfectionistic self-presentation (by promoting a perfect image and hiding imperfections) as compensatory strategy. However, the gratification of the need for self-presentation through body image control in Social Networks photos activities could in turn lead to Problematic Social Networking Sites Use.

An emerging body of research has evidenced the negative influence of using and being exposed to social networking sites (SNSs) on body image. Furthermore, it has been postulated that SNS use might be related with onset and persistence of eating disorders (EDs) psychopathology. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the complex interplay between Problematic Instagram use (PIU) (conceptualized as a potential behavioral addiction comprising withdrawal, conflict, tolerance, salience, mood modification and relapse) and ED psychopathology, by means of an explanatory Structural Equation Model. We hypothesized that PIU would be associated with ED symptoms through the mediating role of appearance comparison, individual psychological investment in physical appearance, and body uneasiness. A sample of 386 young female participants (Mage = 26.04 ± 6.73) was recruited, of which 152 had received a diagnosis of ED. Sharing and viewing photos on social networking sites (SNSs) have been identified as particularly problematic for body image. Although correlational research to date has established that SNS use is associated with increased body dissatisfaction, only experimental studies can enhance confidence in the conclusions drawn. For this reason, this systematic review synthesizes data from 43 experimental studies (N = 8637; %F = 89.56; mean age = 21.58 ± 1.78) examining the effect of viewing idealized images (i.e., attractive, thin, and fit) and body positive content on SNSs on body image. Two studies were conducted on adolescents. Each study had slight variations in how the images were presented for each category (e.g., selfies and photos taken by others). The wide variability in experimental stimuli and psychological moderators used in the published research make a systematic review more feasible and meaningful than a meta-analysis. Findings indicate that viewing idealized images on SNSs lead to increased body dissatisfaction among young women and men. State appearance comparison (i.e., engaging in social comparison while viewing images) significantly mediated the effect, whereas trait appearance comparison (i.e., the relatively stable general tendency to engage in social comparison) was a significant moderator. Mixed results were found regarding the exposure to body positive images/captions. Viewing images on SNSs depicting unattainable beauty ideals leads young people to feel dissatisfied about their bodies, with appearance comparison processing playing an important role. More research is required to assess the long-term effects.

The current study focused primarily on the associations that feelings of not mattering have with life satisfaction, stress, and distress among students trying to cope with the uncertain and novel circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. A sample of 350 University students from Italy completed measures that included the General Mattering Scale and the Anti-Mattering Scale, as well as measures of self-esteem, difficulties in emotion regulation, life satisfaction, perceived stress, anxiety, and depression. Psychometric analyses confirmed the factor structure, reliability, and validity of the General Mattering Scale and the Anti-Mattering Scale. As expected, feelings of not mattering were associated with lower life satisfaction as well as with greater reported difficulties in emotion regulation, stress, and distress. Mattering and self-esteem were both unique predictors of levels of life satisfaction during the pandemic. The results of mediational analyses suggested that individuals who feel as though they do not matter may be especially vulnerable to stress, depression, and anxiety and this may promote a decline in life satisfaction. Given the potential destructiveness of feelings of not mattering, in general but especially during a global pandemic, it is essential to proactively develop interventions and programs that are designed to enhance feelings of mattering and reduce anti-mattering experiences and feelings.

Within the Compensatory Internet Use Theory (CIUT) framework, online activities may compensate for psychosocial problems. However, those who attempt to satisfy their needs or mitigate their fears via Social Networking Sites (SNSs) may be at heightened risk for problematic use of SNSs (PSNSU), especially in cases when these fears have an interpersonal basis, and the individual effectively finds online social support. The current study hypothesizes that interpersonally-based fears (i.e., fear of no mattering, fear of intimacy, and fear of negative evaluation) predict PSNSU, and online social support moderates these associations. Four hundred and fifty Italian participants (Mage = 27.42 ± 7.54; F = 73.5%) take part in the study. As examined by path analysis, the three interpersonal fears were positively associated with PSNSU, and online social support significantly moderates the relationship between fear of negative evaluation and PSNSU. The model accounted for 19% of the variance of PSNSU and showed good fit indices. The associations' strengths decrease as age increases. Overall, the current study finds further support for the theory that motivations need to be taken into account when it comes to internet uses (i.e., CIUT) and extends our understanding by highlighting that online social support might reinforce the link between the fear of being negatively evaluated and PSNSU.

The present study introduces a new construct potentially associated with problematic smartphone use, that is the fear of not being up to date, and tests two serial mediation models, in which it was hypothesised that: (i) metacognitions and social smartphone use would be serial mediators of the relationship between the fear of missing out (FoMO) and problematic smartphone use (PSU); and (ii) metacognitions and process smartphone use would be serial mediators of the relationship between and the fear of not being up to date and PSU. A sample of 364 participants (F = 72.8%; mean age = 36.80 ± 15.32 years; age range: 18–75 years), recruited online, were administered a battery of self-report measures assessing FoMO, the fear of not being up to date, metacognitions about smartphone use, process and social smartphone use, and PSU. The serial mediation effect of metacognitions about smartphone use and process use on the relationship between the fear of not being up to date and PSU was significant (indirect effect = 0.004; 95% CI: [0.0006, 0.009]). Conversely, the serial mediation effect of metacognitions about smartphone use and social use on the relationship between FoMO and PSU was not significant (indirect effect = 0.002; 95% CI: [-0.003, 0.009]). Smartphone social use did not predict PSU. The current study highlights a possible pathway towards process smartphone use via a relatively new phenomenon termed “fear of not being up to date” within a metacognitive framework.

The present study looks at how exposure to Instagram #fitspiration images affects self‐rated sexual attractiveness among women. An experimental pre‐test/post‐test control group design was implemented. Four hundred and forty‐two female undergraduate students (mean age of 22.06 ± 2.15 years) were randomly exposed to either fitspiration (N = 233) or travel Instagram images (N = 209). Well known self‐report measures of Instagram use, body satisfaction, and self‐perceived sexual attractiveness were completed. The results showed that viewing fitspiration models on Instagram was more likely to lower self‐perceived sexual attractiveness among women than travel images. This effect was mediated by body satisfaction. The present findings built upon previous research that focuses on the detrimental effects of exposure to appearance‐focused Instagram profile images on body image satisfaction by showing that exposure to Instagram fitspiration might also influence women perceived sexual attractiveness. Negative consequences of social media exposure on women’s sexual well‐being need to be further investigated.

To assess the role of flat panel computed tomography (FPCT) in the evaluation of cochlear implant (CI) electrode position and its relation to speech perception. From March 2015 to March 2019, we retrospectively enrolled deaf subjects ≥ 18 years who underwent unilateral CI by one surgeon, imaged with FPCT and assessed with disyllabic words score before CI and at 6 months of follow-up. We calculated the disyllabic score difference before CI and after CI (ΔSDS) and divided the subjects in favorable and unfavorable outcome groups using the median ΔSDS as a cutoff. We compared the demographic, clinical, electrode characteristics, and the CI positioning variables scalar position, surgical insertion depth (SID), linear insertion depth (LID), angular insertion depth (AID) and wrapping factor (WF). We studied 50 subjects (F/M = 27/23; median age = 60.5 years, IQR: 50–70 years). The median ΔSDS was 80% (interquartile range [IQR]: 60–100%) in quiet and 80% (IQR: 47.5–100%) in noise. Of the subjects 23 demonstrated a favorable outcome and had earlier age at CI (median 52 years; IQR 45–67 years versus median 62 years; IQR: 56–71 years p = 0.032) and a significantly higher SID (median: 4.02 mm IQR: 3.00–5.35 mm versus median: 2.94 mm IQR: 2.06–3.90 mm; p = 0.029). No difference was found for LID (p = 0.977), AID (p = 0.302), and WF (p = 0.224). A logistic regression model built with the age at CI, number of CI electrodes, and the SID was significant χ2 ((df = 3, N = 50) = 14.517, p = 0.002). The model explained 33.7% (Nagelkerke R2) of ΔSDS variance and correctly classified 76% of the cases. The SID measured by FPCT predicts the ΔSDS at 6 months follow-up, alongside with age at implantation and number of CI electrodes.

Body appreciation is considered a key dimension of positive body image. Tylka and Wood-Barcalow (2015) developed the Body Appreciation Scale-2 (BAS-2), a psychometrically sound measure to assess body appreciation. The present study examines various psychometric properties (i.e. factor structure, sex-based measurement invariance, and construct validity) of an Italian translation of the BAS-2 in a community sample (N = 601; F = 50.6 %; Mage = 25.72; SD = 4.81). Exploratory factor analyses with a randomly selected split-half subsample (n = 300; F = 50 %) supported the one-dimensional factor structure among both sexes. Confirmatory factor analyses with a second split-half subsample (n = 301; F = 51.16 %) indicated that the one-dimensional factor structure had adequate fit after some modifications were made. BAS-2 scores achieved full invariance across sex and men reported significantly higher scores than women (d = 0.45). Further, the Italian version of the BAS-2 had good internal consistency and was positively correlated with self-esteem and life satisfaction, whereas negative associations were found with body dissatisfaction and eating disorder symptoms. Results indicated that the Italian BAS-2 has good psychometric properties.

Introduction: Sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) is a relatively frequent disease, but a sensitive marker or a reliable test to identify the underlying cause is still unavailable. Neuroradiology appears to offer the most promising tools, especially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). In a recent study from our group, we explored the ability of MRI to detect subtle changes in the inner ear compartments by means of a 3D-fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequence, aiming at identifying 3 distinct MRI patterns (haemorrhagic, inflammatory, brain-labyrinth barrier breakdown). In the present study, we contrasted the MRI patterns at onset with relevant prognostic factors, with the audiological features of each patient’s SSHL and with treatment outcomes. Methods: In this retrospective study, we enrolled 50 adult subjects (54.61 ± 18.26 years) with SSHL. They underwent an MRI within 72 h from admission, and 5 audiological evaluations: at admission, on the 5th day after the start of medical therapy, at the end of the first cycle of hyperbaric oxygen therapy, then 1 and 6 months later. Results: Abnormalities of the MRI signal and/or post-contrast enhancement asymmetry of the cochlea (“pattern+ MRI”) correlated with worse audiological outcomes at 1 month, but the different MRI patterns were not correlated with any specific prognostic model, despite rigid protocol settings. However, a significant difference was found for low-tone SSHL, which were always “pattern” negative at MRI (p = 0.01), and for profound SSHL which demonstrated a pattern+ MRI in 80% (p = 0.04). At the onset of SSHL, a pattern+ MRI was found in 29/50 cases (58.0%) and was related with lesser degree of recovery of pure-tone average at 1 month and lesser chance to retain the hearing threshold benefit in the long term. Given the limited numbers of patients enrolled so far, the relative impact of comorbidities on each MRI pattern remains uncertain. At 6 months, we observed a trend of greater and more stable recovery (p = 0.023) and less frequent recurrence of SSHL in patients with a normal MRI. Conclusions: The 3 observed MRI patterns did not correlate consistently with specific audio-vestibular features or any peculiar aspect of the patient’s clinical history. Larger series of patients with SSHL are needed, possibly from multicentric studies.

Purpose We aimed to evaluate the feasibility, accuracy, and safety of Programmed Death-1/ Programmed Death-Ligand 1 (PD-1/ PD-L1) expression quantification in cytology cell-block samples obtained through transthoracic CT-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) from the interventional radiologist's perspective. Methods We performed a consecutive unselected series of 361 CT-guided biopsies of pulmonary nodules and masses which came to our observation from June 2017 to October 2018. For each case, exhaustive clinical, morphologic, molecular and tomographic data were available. All the material obtained was fixed in formalin to obtain a cell-block for the pathologist, who performed immunohistochemical analysis to detect PD-L1 expression levels on each sample. Results Of all the analyzed samples, 93.6% (338/361) were defined to be diagnostic, including neoplastic (72%, 260/361) and non-neoplastic lesions (21.6%, 78/361); only 6.4% (23/361) of them resulted in nondiagnostic specimens. Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounted for 73.8% of neoplastic lesions (192/260): most of them were adenocarcinoma (83%, 160/192), followed by squamous carcinoma (14%, 27/192) and poorly differentiated carcinoma (3%, 5/192). In 96% of NSCLC (184/192), the diagnosis was reached either in the absence of complications or with early minor complications. PD-L1 expression was evaluated in all 192 NSCLC cytology specimens: 180 immunostainings were found to be adequate for PD-L1 testing. In 76% of cases, PD-L1 expression level was lower than 50%. Conclusion The findings of our study indicate that PD-L1 quantification using a cell-block approach on CT-guided FNAC is a feasible and safe technique and should be taken into account alongside with core biopsy approach, especially in case of advanced disease and/or fragile and older patients.

The aim of our study was to investigate whether the magnetic susceptibility varies according to the amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) phenotypes based on the predominance of upper motor neuron (UMN)/lower motor neuron (LMN) impairment. We retrospectively collected imaging and clinical data of 47 ALS patients (12 with UMN predominance (UMN-ALS), 16 with LMN predominance (LMN-ALS), and 19 with no clinically defined predominance (Np-ALS)). We further enrolled 23 healthy controls (HC) and 15 ALS mimics (ALS-Mim). These participants underwent brain 3-T magnetic resonance imaging (3-T MRI) with T1-weighted and gradient-echo multi-echo sequences. Automatic segmentation and quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) were performed. The skewness of the susceptibility values in the precentral cortex (SuscSKEW) was automatically computed, compared among the groups, and correlated to the clinical variables. The Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant differences in terms of SuscSKEW among groups (χ2(3) = 24.2, p < 0.001), and pairwise tests showed that SuscSKEW was higher in UMN-ALS compared to those in LMN-ALS (p < 0.001), HC (p < 0.001), Np-ALS (p = 0.012), and ALS-Mim (p < 0.001). SuscSKEW was highly correlated with the Penn UMN score (Spearman’s rho 0.612, p < 0.001). This study demonstrates that the clinical ALS phenotypes based on UMN/LMN sign predominance significantly differ in terms of magnetic susceptibility properties of the precentral cortex. Combined MRI-histopathology investigations are strongly encouraged to confirm whether this evidence is due to iron overload in UMN-ALS, unlike in LMN-ALS. • Magnetic susceptibility in the precentral cortex reflects the prevalence of UMN/LMN impairment in the clinical ALS phenotypes. • The degree of UMN/LMN impairment might be well described by the automatically derived measure of SuscSKEW in the precentral cortex. • Increased SuscSKEW in the precentral cortex is more relevant in UMN-ALS patients compared to those in Np-ALS and LMN-ALS patients.

The literature suggests that alexithymia and emptiness could be risk factors for various addictive behaviors. The present study developed and tested a model that proposes a pathway leading from emptiness and difficulties in identifying emotions to Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) symptoms via an intense gamer-avatar relationship and bodily dissociative experiences. A sample of 285 (64.2% M; mean age = 30.38 ± 7.53) online gamers using avatar-based videogames was recruited from gaming communities, and they were asked to complete a survey that included the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, the Subjective Emptiness scale, the Scale of Body Connection, the Self-Presence Questionnaire, and the Internet Gaming Disorder Scale-Short Form. The structural model evaluated produced a good fit to the data [χ2 = 175.14, df = 55, p RMSEA = 0.08 (90% C.I. =0.07–0.09), CFI = 0.96, SRMR = 0.08] explaining 28% of the total variance. Alexithymia was indirectly associated with IGD through the serial mediation of the gamer-avatar relationship and body dissociation. Emptiness was associated with IGD symptoms at the bivariate level, but did not predict IGD directly or indirectly. The current study identifies a potential pathway toward IGD by integrating different lines of research, showing the importance of considering aspects such as the difficulty in recognising and expressing one’s emotions, the gamer- avatar relationship, and the mind-body connection in the context of IGD.

The present study aimed to examine the link between attachment, personality traits, and suicidal ideation with consideration of the potential moderating role of age and sex. The Suicidal History Self-Rating Screening Scale, the Personality Inventory for DSM-5-Brief Form, and the Attachment Style Questionnaire were administered to 183 students. There was a significant indirect effect of need for approval on suicidal ideation via detachment. Moreover, the moderated mediation models of need for approval and preoccupation with relationships on suicidality via negative affectivity were significant in men, but not women, whereas the moderated mediation model of need for approval on suicidality via detachment was significant in women, but not men. Young men and women seem at risk for increased suicidal ideation based on specific attachment and personality characteristics, which should be considered for the development of prevention and therapeutic interventions.

The current study expands on and integrates previous theoretical models concerning the pathways that link child maltreatment to substance use disorder. The proposed model, based on the self-medication hypothesis, suggests that experiences of neglect and abuse during childhood can lead to substance use and abuse both directly and indirectly, via dissociation resulting from failed attempts to integrate experiences of maltreatment in childhood. The model was tested on ten substances (painkillers, stimulants, sedatives, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, hallucinogens, heroin, inhalants, and methamphetamine) via structural equation modeling (SEM) in a sample comprising 1040 community-dwelling adults (67 % women) aged between 18 and 78 (M = 29.55, SD = 11.37). Fit indexes of the SEM were good, thus supporting the hypothesized model. Specific forms of child maltreatment were related to increased use of specific substances; however, experience of childhood neglect (both physical and emotional) was found to have a central role in predicting use of most substances. Although no single pathway can fully explain the origins of substance abuse, the current study provides evidence of a critical developmental pathway to it, with implications for theory and clinical practice.

To distinguish amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and its subtypes from ALS mimics and healthy controls based on the assessment of iron-related hypointensity of the primary motor cortex in susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI). We enrolled 64 patients who had undergone magnetic resonance imaging studies with clinical suspicions of ALS. The ALS group included 48 patients; the ALS-mimicking disorder group had 16 patients. The ALS group was divided into three subgroups according to the prevalence of upper motor neuron (UMN) or lower motor neuron (LMN) impairment, with 12 subjects in the UMN-predominant ALS group (UMN-ALS), 16 in the LMN-predominant ALS group (LMN-ALS), and 20 with no prevalent impairment (C-ALS). Increasing scientific attention has been focused on a potential and relatively new form of behavioral addiction: compulsive exercising (i.e., when individuals gradually lose control over their exercise habits, act compulsively, and experience negative consequences). Therapist’s emotional response towards patients with obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) is under-investigated. This aspect might provide valuable information about therapists’ difficulties during sessions and support supervisory practice, since a proportion of OCD patients drop out due to issues related to the therapeutic relationship. In a sample of therapists, we explored the effects of therapists’ orientation (cognitive behavioural versus psychodynamic) and perfectionistic traits on their emotional responses towards patients with OCD, controlling for other variables potentially related to emotional response towards patients (i.e., therapists’ gender/age and patient’s comorbid personality disorders). Ninety-four therapists (74 women and 20 men; mean age = 42.07 ± 10.17 years), of which 47 (50%) had a cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and 47 (50%) a psychodynamic orientation matched on gender and age, completed the Therapist Response Questionnaire and Frost Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale. Therapists with a CBT orientation reported less negative emotional responses, i.e., lower overwhelmed/disorganized, hostile/angry, criticised/devalued, parental/protective and special/over-involved emotions towards patients than therapists with a psychodynamic orientation. Therapists with higher perfectionistic traits (i.e., parents’ expectations/evaluation) had higher hostile/angry reactions, those with higher concerns over mistakes and doubts about actions had more intense criticised/devalued emotions, while those with stronger concerns with precision, order and organization had lower disengagement responses. The present study is the first investigation which sheds some light on the emotional responses of therapists towards OCD patients. Therapists’ CBT orientation and lower perfectionistic traits might be associated with better emotions. Therapists’ emotional responses, their psychotherapeutic orientation and levels of perfectionism should be considered during supervisory practice.

This study aims to investigate whether Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and bodily dissociation vary depending on the most frequently used game genre. Seven hundred and fifteen highly engaged online players (71.5% men; mean age 29.75 ± 7.48 years) recruited in player communities completed a survey that assessed game genre, bodily dissociative experiences and IGD. The results showed significantlly higher levels of IGD among multiplayer online battle arenas (MOBA) and massively multiplayer online role-playing games players relative to first-person shooters (FPS) game players, whilst MOBA players report significantly higher bodily dissociative experiences compared to MORPG and FPS. However, we found that differences on body dissociation disappear at high levels of IGD, with problematic players showing high body disconnection, regardless of the type of game most frequently used. This suggests that high engagement in online games has the potential to disconnect a player from his body, regardless of the type of game used.
