We study the thermal effects on the frictional properties of atomically thin sheets. We simulate a simple model based on the Prandtl-Tomlinson model that reproduces the layer dependence of friction and strengthening effects seen in AFM experiments. We investigate sliding at constant speed as well as reversing direction. We also investigate contact aging: the changes that occur to the contact when the sliding stops completely. We compare the numerical results to analytical calculations based on Kramers rates. We find that there is a slower than exponential contact aging that weakens the contact and that we expect will be observable in experiments. We discuss the implications for sliding as well as aging experiments., Comment: 12 pages. 10 figures

We have developed and tested an experimental technique for the measurement of low-energy (p,n) reactions in inverse kinematics relevant to nuclear astrophysics. The proposed setup is located at the ReA3 facility at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory. In the current approach, we operate the beam-transport line in ReA3 as a recoil separator while tagging the outgoing neutrons from the (p,n) reactions with the low-energy neutron detector array (LENDA). The developed technique was verified by using the $^{40}$Ar(p,n)$^{40}$K reaction as a probe. The results of the proof-of-principle experiment with the $^{40}$Ar beam show that cross-section measurements within an uncertainty of $\sim$25\% are feasible with count rates up to 7 counts/mb/pnA/s. In this article, we give a detailed description of the experimental setup, and present the analysis method and results from the test experiment. Future plans on using the technique in experiments with the separator for capture reactions (SECAR) that is currently being commissioned are also discussed., Comment: Submitted to NIMA. - Abstract
Patients hospitalised for COVID-19 are at risk for multiorgan failure and death. Sodium–glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors provide cardiovascular and kidney protection in patients with cardiometabolic conditions and could provide organ protection during COVID-19. We aimed to investigate whether SGLT2 inhibitors can reduce the need for organ support in patients hospitalised for COVID-19.

Mathematics - Combinatorics - Abstract
A graph $G$ is $1$-extendible if every edge belongs to at least one $1$-factor of $G$. Let $G$ be a graph with a $1$-factor $F$. Then an even $F$-orientation of $G$ is an orientation in which each $F$-alternating cycle has exactly an even number of edges directed in the same fixed direction around the cycle. In this paper, we examine the structure of 1-extendible graphs $G$ which have no even $F$-orientation where $F$ is a fixed $1$-factor of $G$. In the case of graphs of connectivity at least four and k-regular graphs for $k \geq 3$ we give a complete characterization., Comment: 31 pages, 9 figures

It is not known which methods of communication to use, nor how effectively they facilitate the transition of care when a patient is discharged home from hospital. Our systematic review aims to investigate the methods and effectiveness of communication between hospital allied health and primary care practitioners. Methods: Systematic review of quantitative and qualitative studies with narrative synthesis. Medline, CINAHL, EMBASE, PsycInfo and Proquest Nursing and Allied Health Sources were searched from January 2003 until January 2020 for studies that examined hospital-based allied health professionals communicating with community-based primary care practitioners. Risk of bias in the different study designs was appraised using recognized tools and a content analysis conducted of the methodologies used. Results: From the located 12,281 papers (duplicates removed), 24 studies met the inclusion criteria with hospital allied health communicating in some form with primary care practitioners. While none of the included studies specifically investigated the methods or effectiveness of communication between hospital allied health and primary care practitioners, 12 of the 24 studies described processes that addressed components of their discharge communication. Four enablers to effective communication between hospital allied health and primary care practitioners were identified: multidisciplinary care plans, patient and caregiver involvement, health information technology and a designated person for follow up/care management. Conclusion: There is currently no “gold standard” method or measure of communication between hospital allied health and primary care practitioners. There is an urgent need to develop and evaluate multidisciplinary communication with enhanced information technologies to improve collaboration across care settings and facilitate the continuity of integrated people-centered care. Keywords: multidisciplinary, collaboration, discharge plan, continuity of care

- Abstract
Universal newborn hearing screening (UNHS) facilitates early detection of permanent congenital hearing loss in newborns. In recognition of specific needs among parents, support services have been established within some UNHS programs, including the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP). Despite this, there is limited research about how to best support parents in the context of well-established UNHS programs. This project aims to retrospectively explore parental support needs between the newborn hearing screen and enrolment into early intervention services. We used semi-structured interviews with parents three- to- six-months post confirmation of their newborn's diagnosis of bilateral moderate-profound sensorineural hearing loss. Data were analysed using inductive content analysis. Thirteen parents of ten children were interviewed. Parents described high satisfaction with the support they received. Some parents felt unprepared for a diagnosis of hearing loss, having been reassured that transient causes such as middle ear fluid caused the hearing screen result. Parents reported mixed responses regarding the value of parent-mentor support along the pathway and some parents described needing additional psychological input to adjust to their child's diagnosis. These findings provide insights into how a well-established UNHS program, VIHSP, supports parents along the hearing diagnosis pathway and how support can be further enriched.

- Abstract
Objectives: While there is increasing interest in mindfulness-informed programs to support preschooler social, emotional, and cognitive development, evaluation of feasibility and efficacy is required prior to implementing such programs within the early education setting. This study evaluated the feasibility of an 8-week, app-based, educator-delivered, mindfulness-informed program, Early Minds by Smiling Mind. An established framework was used to assess demand, acceptability, implementation, practicality, (adequate) adaptation, integration, and limited efficacy testing. Limited efficacy testing explored program use on preschoolers’ internalizing, externalizing, prosocial behaviors, and executive function. Methods: A pilot cluster-randomized-controlled trial (CRCT) was conducted with 25 early learning educators and 188 preschoolers from six early learning centres (ELCs) in Melbourne, Australia. Post baseline data collection, ELC rooms were randomly allocated to the program (n = 5 rooms, 111 children) or usual care (n = 5 rooms, 77 children) group. Data was collected at baseline, 3-month, and 12-month post-randomization. Results: The Early Minds program did not meet feasibility on four of the seven educator-reported domains (implementation, practicality, adaptation, and limited efficacy testing) and showed mixed results for two of the seven domains (acceptability and integration). Parent-reported feasibility has not been established as too few parents used the program. Educators provided rich feedback and specific suggestions to improve the program content to be more suitable and engaging for the preschool context and to work within the challenges of the early education setting. Conclusions: The Early Minds program requires modification to address educator needs and improve child suitability and engagement. Following modification, re-assessment of feasibility is required.

Brazil is one of the largest exporters of cattle meat production. Most of this production is under pasture areas, with different levels of livestock and field management. Remotely sensed images could be interesting tools to detect distinct temporal and spatial patterns of these systems. In this context, classification algorithms have been proposed to use information from satellite images to map different land covers. The Time-Weighted Dynamic Time Warping (TWDTW) is an algorithm that has the advantage of working well with datasets with enough amounts of temporal information and seasonality patterns. In the present work, the TWDTW was performed to classify pasture managements in farms located in Western region of São Paulo State in Brazil for the years 2017 and 2018, as a primary study. It was used Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) time series images from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer – MODIS sensor (products MOD13Q1 and MYD13Q) with 250 meters of spatial resolution. In classifications for the years 2017 and 2018, it was observed a predominance of traditional pasture. Total areas of degraded and traditional pasture were very similar between 2017 and 2018. The year of 2017 showed higher spatial distribution of intensified pastures than year 2018. The classification achieved satisfying results with complete accuracy in validation. The information collected from field visits were important to analyse general aspects of the results. Therefore, in this pilot study TWDTW algorithm demonstrated to have potential in differentiating classes of pasture management. Next steps will be to explore the possibilities to classify pasture systems in large areas.

Plasma Physics - Abstract
A method for the quasi-one-dimensional simulation of magnetic nozzles is presented and simulations of a magnetic nozzle are performed. The effects of the density variation due to plasma expansion and the magnetic field forces on ion acceleration are investigated. Magnetic field forces acting on the electrons are found to be responsible for the formation of potential structures which accelerate ions. The effects of the plasma density variation alone are found to only weakly affect ion acceleration. Strongly diverging magnetic fields drive more rapid potential drops.

We study the thermal effects on the frictional properties of atomically thin sheets. We simulate a simple model based on the Prandtl-Tomlinson model that reproduces the layer dependence of friction and strengthening effects seen in atomic force microscope experiments. We investigate sliding at a constant speed as well as reversing direction. We also investigate contact aging: the changes that occur to the contact when the sliding stops completely. We compare the numerical results to analytical calculations based on Kramers rates. We find that there is a slower than exponential contact aging that weakens the contact and that we expect will be observable in experiments. We discuss the implications for sliding as well as aging experiments.

Objective: With the emergence of experimental therapies for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), it is fundamental to understand the natural history of this disorder to properly design clinical trials. The aims of this study were to assess the effects produced on motor function by different DMD genotypes and early initiation of glucocorticoids. Methods: Through the NorthStar Network, standardised clinical data including the NorthStar Ambulatory Assessment score (NSAA) on 513 ambulant UK boys with DMD were analysed from 2004 to 2012. For the analysis of the genetic subpopulation, we also included data from 172 Italian boys with DMD. NSAA raw scores were converted into linear scores. Results: On the linearised NSAA, we observed an average decline of 8 units/year (4 units on raw NSAA analysis) after age 7. The median age at loss of ambulation (LOA) was 13 years (95% CI 12.1 to 13.5); 2 years prior to LOA, the estimated mean linearised NSAA score was 42/100 (13/34 raw scale). Starting glucocorticoids between 3 and 5 years conferred an additional gain in motor function of 3 units/year (1.3 raw units) up to age 7. When analysing the effect of genotype in the UK and Italian cumulative cohorts, individuals with deletions amenable to exons 44 and 46 skipping declined at a slower rate over 2 years (9 units (4 raw units), p

- Abstract
Ocean Sentinels comprises seven traditional figures representing Pacific Island communities and environments under threat from human-induced climate change in the form sea level rise and ocean plastic pollution through waste mismanagement. Impacting the lives of these communities by disrupting their food supplies and housing through inundation and their environment through contamination.Working with indigenous artists and museums, The Small Ocean Collaboration (Jeremy Sheehan and Selena Griffith) 3D scanned wooden carved figures, modelled them, scaled and segmented them, then 3D printed each from recycled PET bottles and recyclable PETG filament. The 279 individual pieces were then reassembled. Each figure stands 2.4m to 3m tall weighing 30 – 45 kg each. The figures are:1. The Little Tern from Australia made in collaboration with Gumbaynggir artist YOWA; 2. A female ancestor harvest figure from Nukuoro Atoll, Federated States of Micronesia made with permission from the Dept. of Resources and Development, Pohnpei State Government Kolonia Pohnpei FSM; 3. A boathouse figure from Palau made in collaboration with Belau National Museum; 4. A male Kirivina figure from the Trobriand Islands of Papua New Guinea, made in collaboration with Robert Kwevakaluluwa; 5. Kesoku, a protective bird figure from Honiara, Solomon Islands made in collaboration with Menzy Meani; 6. Tugpa the messenger and hero of the Eskaya people of Bohol Island, Philippines made in collaboration with Rojo Balane; and 7. A Vanuatu Tam Tam / Ambrym drum which simulates the voices of ancestors in Efate/Ambrym Island, made in collaboration with Willie Koko. The sentinels are lit with moving light and accompanied by a soundscape, commissioned by the collective from Adam Pierce, echoing the waves lapping along island edges that will rise and eventually consume these communities. One day, the Ocean Sentinels may be all that is left to remind us of cultures lost to climate change.Digitally printed recycled and rec

- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Optimal mental health is critical for a child's learning and academic functioning. As a universal service, early education centres play an important role in promoting children's mental health. Social-emotional learning programs are efficacious in reducing behavioural difficulties, enhancing competence, and improving learning abilities. Mindfulness practices, known to promote health and wellbeing in adults, have been adapted to education programs for younger populations, including pre-school children. Despite an increasing use of mindfulness-based programs in pre-school settings, there is a limited number of randomised trials and paucity of data on implementation fidelity of these programs. 'Early Minds' is a mindfulness-based program developed by Smiling Mind for 3-5-year-old children. This paper describes a protocol of a pilot randomised control trial, evaluating the implementation of the program in early learning centres (ELCs, i.e. pre-schools) in Melbourne, Australia. The primary aim of this pilot study is to examine the feasibility, acceptability, and fidelity of the program. The secondary aims are to assess the acceptability of the design and measures and to investigate preliminary impacts of the program on child social-emotional outcomes. METHODS: A convenience sample of six ELCs are recruited. Participants include educators, children, and their parents from 3- and/or 4-year-old ELC rooms. Upon completion of baseline surveys, rooms are randomly allocated to intervention and control arms by an independent statistician. 'Early Minds' is designed in a flexible delivery manner; meditations and activities are completed at least three times a week. Educators are trained in the program and have access to the activities and meditations on an app. Parents are encouraged to practice with their children at least three times a week. Educators document implementation fidelity throughout the 8 weeks of the program. Parents and educators complete follow-up surve

- Abstract
© 2019 Pacific Rim Real Estate Society. Australian property law has steadily evolved to facilitate the recognition of new or previously unrecognised property rights. Concurrently, modern property rights have become increasingly complex. This evolution of property rights has had fundamental implications when addressing compensation for the impairment or acquisition of land (Indigenous or non-Indigenous) by government. Indeed as understanding of property rights advances, the ambit of compensation is catapulted into uncharted waters. This paper highlights the difficulty of containing property rights to a particular set of descriptors and the effect this has on compensation claims. Further, the current methodology for processing compensation claims exposes a disconnect between the public and the New South Wales (NSW) government. Finally, through an exploration of specific examples of compensation for private property rights, this paper concludes that there is need for a workable consensus on good, bad and fair compensation.

Differences between high- and low-income settings in the availability of laparoscopic appendectomy, alternative management choices, and outcomes are poorly described. The aim was to identify variation in surgical management and outcomes of appendicitis within low-, middle-, and high-Human Development Index (HDI) countries worldwide. Methods This is a multicenter, international prospective cohort study. Consecutive sampling of patients undergoing emergency appendectomy over 6 months was conducted. Follow-up lasted 30 days. Results 4546 patients from 52 countries underwent appendectomy (2499 high-, 1540 middle-, and 507 low-HDI groups). Surgical site infection (SSI) rates were higher in low-HDI (OR 2.57, 95% CI 1.33-4.99, p = 0.005) but not middle-HDI countries (OR 1.38, 95% CI 0.76-2.52, p = 0.291), compared with high-HDI countries after adjustment. A laparoscopic approach was common in high-HDI countries (1693/2499, 67.7%), but infrequent in low-HDI (41/507, 8.1%) and middle-HDI (132/1540, 8.6%) groups. After accounting for case-mix, laparoscopy was still associated with fewer overall complications (OR 0.55, 95% CI 0.42-0.71, p < 0.001) and SSIs (OR 0.22, 95% CI 0.14-0.33, p < 0.001). In propensity-score matched groups within low-/middle-HDI countries, laparoscopy was still associated with fewer overall complications (OR 0.23 95% CI 0.11-0.44) and SSI (OR 0.21 95% CI 0.09-0.45). Conclusion A laparoscopic approach is associated with better outcomes and availability appears to differ by country HDI. Despite the profound clinical, operational, and financial barriers to its widespread introduction, laparoscopy could significantly improve outcomes for patients in low-resource environments.
