En la presente tesis se estudia la variabilidad espacio-temporal de la hidroclimatologia de Colombia. Utilizando los preceptos de la circulación inducida por una fuente de Calor diabática propuesta por Matsuno – Webster- Gill. Se demuestra que la circulación general de la atmósfera al norte de América del sur es inducida por una fuerte fuente de calor diabático ubicada al occidente de Colombia por lo que en bajos niveles de la atmósfera existen dos ciclones al oeste de la fuente de calor asociado a media onda planetaria localizada al oeste de la fuente de calor diabática responsable de los fuertes vientos del oeste. Al este de la fuente de calor existe una celda de Walker responsable de los vientos del este en respuesta a una onda Kelvin. El marco físico propuesto explica las principales características de la distribución espacio-temporal de la precipitación en Colombia, incluyendo las épocas secas y húmedas además de la condición de veranillo desde la escala diaria hasta la escala inter- anual. Utilizando los modelos ocultos de Markov se evidencian los cambios en la distribución espacial y la frecuencia de la precipitación sobre Colombia y su relación con la Oscilación de Madden Julian, El Niño- Oscilación del Sur (ENSO) y el cambio Climático. In this thesis, the spatio-temporal variability of the Colombia's Hydroclimatology is studied using the precepts of heat‐induced tropical circulation proposed by Matsuno - Webster-Gill (MWG). This work demonstrated that the general circulation in northern South America is induced by a strong source diabatic heat source located in the west of Colombia, so at low levels of the atmosphere there are two cyclones in the west side of the heat source associated with half planetary wave responsible for strong westerly winds. To the east of the heat source, there is a Walker cell responsible for the easterly winds in response to a Kelvin wave. The proposed physical framework explains the main characteristics of the space-time distribution of precipitation in Colombia, including the dry and wet days and seasons as well as the condition of summer drought from the daily to inter-annual time scale. Using the hidden Markov models, we also illustrate the changes in the spatial distribution and frequency of precipitation over Colombia associated with the MWG circulation and its relationship with Madden Julian Oscillation, El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Climate change.
