The article discusses the media education potential of regional journalism. The relevance of the study is due to the need for mass media education as a necessary response to the challenges of the constantly saturated information and communication environment in which people live in the digital age, and the increased role of the media in this process. It is noted that media education activities of journalism are determined as a strategically important direction for the development of modern society. An overview of the state of print and online media, which are part of the Lipetsk newspaper publishing house, is presented from the point of view of their use of convergence achievements at the technological level of information presentation. The novelty of the study is seen in the proposed approach to assessing the media education potential of the regional publishing house as a whole, rather than its individual components. The authors note the problems of regional publications in mastering the possibilities of the internet space, which hinder the development of media education potential. It is proven that it is precisely the integration of new media into traditional formats of information presentation that significantly increases consumer interest in such sources, promotes the establishment of interactive relationships, and increases the media culture of the population. It is emphasized that a combination of classical work forms with multimedia capabilities creates a strong media education base for the media.

In recent years, television stations in Rio Grande do Sul have gone through restructuring processes that have contributed to the extinction or reduction of regional news spaces. The broadcaster RBS TV still meets, in a way, this demand, even if, gradually, it has been reducing its operations in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. The study aims to problematize the importance of regional journalism, especially television, within the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The analysis was focused on the RBS TV station, specifically on the Jornal do Almoço program. Through the observation methodology (GIL, 2008), six editions of the television news were analyzed during the period of one week. The observational method was aimed at verifying the time allocated to each region in relation to the total time of the television news and which subjects were dealt with by each regional segment. In addition, considerations were presented on the observations of the editions analyzed. As a result, it could be seen that, over the years, the RBS TV station is gradually reducing access to information for communities in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REGIONAL journalism ,ELECTRONIC newspapers ,CORONAVIRUS diseases ,NEW business enterprises ,SOCIAL cohesion - Abstract
In May 2020 at the height of Australia's first national COVID lockdown, NewsCorp Australia announced that more than 125 regional newspapers would either be closed or become available online-only. Queensland was hit hard with 22 regional and 20 community newspapers shifting to online formats, and 15 community newspapers closing. Yet within months of the NewsCorp changes, a significant number of new print newspapers were being announced to fill the 'news deserts'. Broadly welcomed by those in these local communities, the new publications suggest a reinvigoration of long-standing norms and tenets, many of which are specific to regional print news media, such as community-centred, locally-shaped news values and high reliance on 'micro-ads' (i.e. classifieds) and hyper-local business revenue. But given the dire prognostications about print business models, what are the aims and intentions of these start-ups (n = 22), and how do they translate their notions of community-centric news into business models they perceive as viable? Drawing on Hanitzsch and Vos framework for the discursive constructions of journalists' role in society, we find these newspaper start-ups both reassert and claim more vigorously the normative values associated with community journalism as 'social glue', while also developing 'lean start-up' business models that capitalise on the sense of a local newspaper's 'social good' functions through an affective rationale. We argue this represents a shift to a new 'hybrid' model, with strong elements of a traditional and still feisty monitorial news values fusing with a more 'morale-enhancing' and explicitly social cohesion-centric role conceptions. We call it a 'community cohesion model'. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REGIONAL journalism ,JOURNALISTS ,OCCUPATIONAL roles ,CORONAVIRUS diseases ,SUSTAINABILITY - Abstract
Almost 200 journalism outlets closed, decreased their service, ended print editions, or merged with other newsrooms between January 2019 and Februrary 2021, accelerated by the COVID-19 crisis. Regional news outlets were among the hardest hit, intensifying calls for effective government policy and industry interventions to bolster the sector. Although there is a well-established tradition of local and regional journalistic role performance scholarship, few studies in an Australian context have taken a multiplatform approach, investigating the perceptions of TV, radio, online news, and print journalists. To help address this gap, this paper draws on survey data of 307 regional Australian journalists and 31 in-depth interviews. Our analysis reveals differences in the way regional reporters understand and narrate their roles, highlighting important distinctions between media platforms that need to be considered in contemporary debates about the sustainability of Australian regional journalism. Staff and budget cutbacks and systemic changes in news media have been widely documented by journalists and scholars, and this qualitative study aims to understand the empirical experience of journalists outside the cities, where isolation, small staff, tight budgets and close communities are the rule. This article reports on part of a study that investigated the experience of journalists in remote and regional media outlets in Queensland and New South Wales. This article explores the more pointed ethical difficulties journalists experience in regional areas, finding these conundrums add layers to decision-making and complexity in the source–journalist relationships. Journalists in regional and remote areas report feeling pressure to take shortcuts in their story writing due to time restraints, to sensationalise or angle stories to suit management agendas, or to write clickbait headlines. They identified these as challenges to their professional practice. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DIGITAL communications , *EMIGRATION & immigration , *DIASPORA , *DIGITAL technology , *DIGITAL media , *HUMAN voice , *SUBJECTIVITY , *JOURNALISTIC ethics - Abstract
This research is based on the notions of diaspora, press, and digital communication, whose intersection now points to a specific scenario. A scenario of circulations composed at the same time by people, places, technologies, communication organs and symbolic forms. Complex and multidimensional geography, linked by subjectivities and communicative processes, which also includes regional newspapers, traditionally considered as an important link in the Portuguese diaspora. In this article, we ask what journalistic coverage is given to diaspora by the regional media in a context already marked by the digitalization and the emigration of new generations. To this end, we undertook a content analysis in the online editions of eleven media outlets in the center region. Based on a corpus of 170 pieces on emigration and through a set of variables, we observe that the regional media continue to cover journalism in the diaspora limited in time, highlighting the actors and institutional agents and relegating, in many situations to the background, the role and voice of emigrants. Despite the opportunities introduced by digital technologies, we find that journalistic projects have not taken advantage of these possibilities to create a new "network of correspondents" and other ways to interact with emigrants, thus maintaining limited access to the diaspora. This article aims to: 1) make a general contextualization of the situation of journalists in the state of Veracruz, listed as the most dangerous for journalists in recent years; 2) describe the forms that symbolic violence has taken against murdered journalists, through unfavorable and revictimizing representations in media; and 3) make visible the forms of symbolic struggle that have been given by some critical journalists in the state and outside it, to contrast alternative versions to the dominant ones, claim their work, and show their resilience in a still unfavorable context. The article is a new reflection based on the results of previous investigation that used interviews, participant observation and analysis of journalistic articles. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REGIONAL journalism , *DEPENDENCY (Imperialism) , *AUDIOVISUAL materials , *TECHNOLOGICAL innovations - Abstract
In Russia, the quality and quantity of multimedia components used in content production vary across the regions. According to Friedman's core-periphery model, these differences are caused by the discrepancies in regional development. The purpose of this study was to assess the quality and quantity of multimedia materials produced by the regional mass media in the Ural Federal District. In this paper, multimedia production is understood as content creation by using texts, photos, video and audio materials, graphics and hyperlinks. We developed a five-point scale for assessment of multimedia materials and analyzed the publications of eighteen media holdings operating within the Ural Federal District. We also conducted structured interviews with regional journalists. In total, we analyzed more than a thousand media texts produced in 2017 and the same number in 2018. It was found that in 2017, only 5% and in 2018, 7% of texts could qualify as multimedia products (each received 2-3 points out of 5). Interestingly enough, most multimedia texts were created by private media while state-owned and state-controlled media seemed reluctant to do so. According to our interviewees, the regional state media are more focused on delivering the 'message 'from the government to the people rather than developing new technologies in journalism. ONLINE journalism , *NEWSPAPERS , *CONTENT analysis - Abstract
The rise of digital journalism allows users to access regional news content from anywhere in the world. In this situation the content is local, but the audience may not be. Drawing on the sociological concept of translocality, the communicative linkage of dispersed geographic locations, this study investigated these emerging long-distance audiences. We combined automated and manual content analyses to (a) investigate the Twitter followership of 146 regional German newspapers and (b) explain the proportion of translocal followers they attract. Roughly one third of followers came from a different German federal state than the newspaper they followed. Papers with a high percentage of translocal followers tended to have older Twitter accounts and came from larger cities than those with fewer translocal followers. Furthermore, they covered regional sports and human-interest stories more, while those with fewer translocal followers placed greater emphasis on infrastructure, event notes, and current traffic information. A significant trend within journalism is the growth of the commentary genre. Another trend is the regional withdrawal within news journalism. News media are closing down district offices, which raises concerns over media shadows and blind spots in coverage. This article addresses both of these trends through a case analysis of the Norwegian newspaper Nordlys. Launching its commentary innovation Nordnorsk debatt, Nordlys aims to exceed its geographical area within these columns, facilitating a regional public sphere in the Arctic region. The article discusses the role of opinion-based journalism in the regional public sphere, within the theoretical perspective of media ecology and institutional theory. We argue that covering the regional level in society is a vital part of journalism's institutional role. In addition, from an ecological perspective, the role of being a regional voice is important in the national public sphere. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the digital ecosystem, local journalism has faced several challenges that have put their resilience, sustentability and durability up to the test. Among changes in the dynamics of the newsrooms and in the work of journalists themselves caused by the decreasing newsrooms’ dimensions and to increasingly less funding, local media outlets have tried to innovate in their work so they can, therefore, maintain the goal of informing communities who aren’t present in national media outlets. Some of those have relied and adopted the transition to the digital environment, letting go of the traditional formats such as paper printed media, and are now present on the internet with websites, social media and even webtvs. This is the case of Jornal do Centro, a local newspaper located in Viseu, which was the place where the internship that led to this work has taken place. In 2020, the newspaper changed its modus operandi and is now present only in the digital environment in the three formats they’ve adopted works – the online, radio and television. Taking these challenges and the changes into account, the main goal of this report is to analyze and understand – using four research questions – how Jornal do Centro incorporates innovative routines. Therefore, with a mix method of content analysis of their website and two social networks, interviews to three of the media outlet’s professionals, direct observation made when the internship occurred and through documental research, it was possible to conclude that even though Jornal do Centro innovates, the path is still to be taken, something the professionals themselves acknowledge.

- Abstract
Regional journalism presupposes a practice that goes beyond the territorial limits of its vehicles, fueling other locations with news. Based on this, the article seeks to identify which criteria of newsworthiness, according to Silva (2014a), are used by a regional publication to cover the localities nearby or the same state. To achieve this purpose, a mixed methodology was chosen with the use of bibliographical review and content analysis of the articles published by O Progresso, a daily newspaper produced in Imperatriz (MA), during the month of October, 2017, in order to map the news from the surrounding municipalities and to systematize the newsworthiness criteria present in the texts. News from 45 cities, both from Maranhão (home state of the media) and from Tocantins, were identiied. It was also observed that proximity, justice and government are the main criteria for news in the regional coverage. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The changes in the journalistic routines derived from the application of the new technologies have special importance in the local press. The reporter journalism is being complemented, and sometimes replaced, by more accessible sources from Internet including the public administrations. Through a content analysis of news published in media with coverage in some municipalities of Great Porto, this study examines whether theses contents are connected to the information presented in official websites of city councils, in addition to subject and authorship. One of the key conclusions is the disinterest of newspapers towards the news from local administrations regardless of topic or authorship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The present paper aims to investigate if the narratives disseminated by the O Tibagi newspaper (published in Monte Alegre, current city of Telêmaco Borba – PR) have produced meaning effects related to the locality's history. In order to do so, an analysis of thematic content was performed in the newspaper's anniversary special editions between the years of 1948 and 1964, under two levels: self-reference and outerreference, observing the strategies used in the newspaper's meaning production. On parallel, through the Oral History methodology, interviews were conducted with individuals who experienced the context in which the O Tibagi's speeches were published and through their memories, it was possible to observe the fragility related to the historical aspects concerning Telêmaco Borba, showing that the local history's comprehension occurred from the narratives conveyed in that journal. It is believed that the silences of the O Tibagi contributed to the formation of a founding speech, given that there were few publications about the past previous to the time when the Klabin family's enterprise arrived in the location. The Leveson Inquiry was established to specifically examine the press and not the media in general. UK Prime Minister David Cameron set it up in the wake of the phone-hacking scandal at the now-defunct News of the World tabloid. It looked at the ethics of the press, its culture and practice. The public and judge-led enquiry generated massive media attention inside the United Kingdom and beyond on whether the government should introduce new press regulations or whether the press should regulate itself. Most of the media coverage focused on national press, with regional press getting the least attention. Anthony Longden writes about the enquiry's impact on local press. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

REGIONAL journalism ,JOURNALISM ,NEWSPAPERS ,MASS media - Abstract
Early in 2013 John Mair's swiftly produced edited collection of articles about the impact of the then-recent Leveson Report included two chapters on the regional press. My chapter offered statistical evidence to show that the regional press was the sector with the best track record in terms of complaints to the Press Complaints Commission (PCC). The chapter controversially predicted that any proposed regulation would have no impact on that sector. It hoped that Lord Justice Leveson's highlighting of the problems of the regional press and plea for recognition of its vital community role might prompt positive parliamentary activity. Four years later regulation has had no impact on the regionals, but the bigger issue of the basic viability of the sector remains unresolved. So how healthy is the UK regional press now? Is digital journalism a killer or a saviour? And how long can the regionals survive? [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This note calls for a brand of research to investigate hacks and leaks and their role in shaping public opinion and influencing the mainstream news media landscape. Hacks and leaks have become a major source of information for the news media. However, we still lack the tools to assess and measure the phenomenon in a systematic, predictive, concise and coherent manner. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
[ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The telejournalism practiced by television stations in Rio Grande do Sul has been going through processes of restructuring and reduction of regional news spaces. Even the broadcaster RBS TV, which still somewhat met this demand, stopped producing considerably regional content from the Covid pandemic19. On the other hand, TV Cachoeira can be considered an example of typically local journalism production. The study aims to discuss the importance of regional television journalism in Rio Grande do Sul, analyze the reduction of regional production on RBS TV and reflect on the experience of TV Cachoeira. The analysis will be deepened in the programs “Jornal do Almoço”, on RBS TV, and “Jornal NT SUL”, on TV Cachoeira, with the observation of five editions of the two news programs during a week. As findings, it is noteworthy that while RBS TV is reducing content for the public in the interior, TV Cachoeira fulfills the objective of taking journalistic information to its local viewers.

The journalistic medium has, over time, dealt with several problems and challenges. If it can be noticed in the national press, in the regional and local press these problems become even more marked. The internet and globalization have brought new possibilities, but most regional newspaper companies have not been able to take benefit from the advantages they have to offer. Focusing on the local and regional press, this work aims to identify proximity journalism made by local media, show the importance of the community in maintaining it and refer to this journalism as a means of preserving traditions, culture and regional identity, being also an asset in the regional development of the territory in which operates. Addressing the authors who contributed to the study of proximity journalism and cyberjournalism, this report intends to present the case of Jornal Fórum Covilhã, one of the print media in the Beira Interior region, linking the elements of regional journalism to specific examples of this newspaper. In the Fórum, despite the presence in digital, the traditional medium continues to have more strength. The newspaper maintains the importance of a continuous commitment to creative and innovative work, without forgetting proximity journalism and direct contact with its readers. The first point of this report presents the Fórum Covilhã, the second point is the main theme, local and regional journalism, and finally, the role of online in journalism, specifically in the press regional.

The vast dissemination of the internet has changed the way news is consumed, having modified the media system and challenged the survival of numerous regional media. In order to face the digital era, local media need to adapt to the new media market and invest in business as well as editorial innovation, to attract new audiences. Notwithstanding, in the era of fast communication – where journalism is not only mobile and portable, but also ubiquitous and personalized – it is in fact more difficult to capture the attention of audiences and retain them, so as to guarantee business stability. For this to occur, the production of varied content is essential, as is the commitment to social networks, which have a very low marginal cost. It is important to highlight that, on its own, regional journalism is already different from other kinds of journalism. However, the former needs to transform its specificity into its strength. The proximity it establishes with its audiences can facilitate the creation of ties, communities, thus ensuring its survival. To keep regional journalism alive, the media must focus on the younger generations, not only because the media should be representative of society, but also because of the value that the young can add to a medium. If on the one hand young journalists are looking for experience, on the other hand regional media needs human resources that understand new digital tools and market trends. As such, we defend that regional journalism needs to attract the younger generations, establishing a more direct and intimate relationship with them. These ideas, mentioned in the previous paragraphs, are the result of six interviews carried out with media from the Torres Vedras, Médio Tejo and Covilhã region and a survey conducted among 85 young people. The impact of young people as producers and receivers of regional information was thus analysed through mixed method research, and it was concluded that youth cohorts can contribute to a renewal and reaffirmation of regional journalism

In this essay I discuss how my editorship of Sociological Focus, the official journal of the North Central Sociological Association, simultaneously places me at the margins, in relation to top-tier journals, and in the thick of things, in relation to the authors and reviewers who participate in the journal. All editors face issues related to the review process and, occasionally at least, struggle with decisions. Given the hierarchical nature of the discipline, however, editors of journals at the lower end of the rankings face additional dilemmas related to fairness and access. Concluding that the margin is a bustling place where lots of sociology gets done, I end with a strong plea that we protect our regional journals and keep them vibrant and inclusive. The easiest way to do that is for all of us to publish in them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

While a number of scholars have explored the special exigencies of local as opposed to metropolitan journalism, rarely have studies examined such differences in relation to journalism culture as constituted by journalists' professional views. To address the gap in our knowledge, this study reports results from a representative survey of local and metropolitan newspaper journalists in Australia. Findings suggest that territorial context accounts for some significant differences in journalists' demographics, as well as their role perceptions. In line with past research, local newspaper journalists exhibit much stronger support for the community forum and advocacy role. At the same time, and contrary to expectations, there is very little difference in their support of the watchdog role compared with metropolitan journalists. By combining questions about journalistic ideals and enactment in their work, and finding differences in the two, this study also has important implications for the methodological development of survey studies. The doctoral thesis proposes to identify the levels of innovation resulting from the changes that have been taking place in journalistic production in the regional scope of the state of São Paulo as a product resulting from the process of digital disruption. These journalism products in digital media have characteristics that aim at adapting vehicles to the disruptive scenario of the post-industrial model and that, despite technical innovations and new multimedia resources, it is noted that few vehicles have developed the techniques and cultures that encompass this new reality, reflecting one of the main difficulties of user engagement and convergence process. In this way, we identified and analyzed the trends, experiences and signs of resistance in relation to the process of digital disruption, but also the elements that led some media outlets to change the way in which journalistic production has been offered and accessed by people, significantly impacting the adoption of new languages, products and services in the post-industrial model. To meet the specific objective in achieving the experiences lived by the media, consider how and what levels of innovation, incorporation of changes and how the relationship of their products with the population is perceived, was outlined in the phases of the field study and the analysis 14 vehicles from the interior of the State of São Paulo with greater access, which are affiliated to the São Paulo Association of Portals and Newspapers (APJ, 2019), previously organized in traditional media and now transposed in electronic format. To deepen the knowledge and understanding of this process, we start from the concepts of media innovation agents, aiming to reflect on the role and influence of “actors” in the regional journalism innovation process. The stages of field research with professionals and representatives of regional communication vehicles were readjusted to the virtual format and, supported by the proposal of the focus group as a qualitative research technique on the topic of interest of the research, which included the participation of representatives from 10 of the 14 regional vehicles analyzed. The development of the thesis allowed the understanding of this phenomenon, characterized by a transition process in relation to the new culture of production and access to information. Thus, we confirm the hypothesis proposed by this thesis by indicating that newspapers from the interior have a small rate of innovation and insist on the maintenance of an “industrial” model even when disseminating their content on digital platforms. In addition, through analysis of examples in other national and international vehicles, we confirm that the fact that the digital format allows for greater reach, greater interactivity and the use of diversified languages, that is, vehicles that are concerned with this transition have more chances to maintain themselves sustainably

Living in a city that does not even have a newspaper or a digital or broadcasting vehicle. Everything that is seen on TV, read, heard or watched on the internet does not concern your community, neighborhood or territory. Their main sources of information are, in most cases, what circulates in the family's WhatsApp group. And this content directs everyday attitudes. This scenario portrays the reality of the residents of 3,487 Brazilian cities, of a total of 5,570 cities (62%), and of another 19% who travel to this state, according to the Atlas da Notícia 2021 survey. The so-called news deserts spread among inland cities across the country, concentrating on those with low Human Development Indexes and chasing away all the centrality of the concentrated regions. The situation has worsened with the closure of traditional vehicles in a financial crisis and has deepened inequalities in access to information. In contrast to the evident scenario of news desertification, local journalism stands out for being in direct contact with the reality of small cities, neighborhoods of medium and large cities, as well as with ethnic, cultural and union groups, being able to detect first the emergence of facts, new social behaviors and unprecedented political trends. The site has the potential to be strengthened by the advancement of digital technologies with the possibility of concentrating on a hyperlocal scale. Thus, this doctoral thesis is aimed at the local or regional press based on a crucial question: would hyperlocal journalism be the necessary element to fight news deserts? Through conceptual problematization around local-regional journalism, community journalism and glocal journalism, we sought to trace the main characteristics, definitions and examples of hyperlocal journalism in the context of the different realities of the Brazilian territory. The analysis delves into a vast mapping of media and user behavior in the so-called Administrative Region of Bauru, in the interior of São Paulo. Finally, with the analyzed and outlined scenario, it is sought to list the characteristics of hyperlocal interior media possible to combat deserts. REGIONAL journalism ,AUDIENCES ,ONLINE social networks ,DIGITAL technology - Abstract
This article examines how some regional newspapers in Australia are engaging with the social media juggernaut Facebook, and looks at the effects of this on their relationships with audiences in a digital world. We highlight how terms such as 'friend' and 'community' mask complex power struggles taking place across these two media platforms. On the one hand, Facebook can facilitate public conversation and widen the options for journalists to access information; on the other, it has become a competitor as news outlets struggle to find a business model for online spaces. We suggest that newspapers and journalists are facing challenges in navigating the complexities of a platform that crosses public/private domains at a time when the nature of 'private' and 'public' is being contested. The article adopts a 'pooled case comparison' approach, drawing on data from two separate Australian studies that examine regional newspapers in a digital landscape. The research draws on interviews with journalists and editors in Australia across three states, and on focus groups and interviews with newspaper readers in Victoria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

JOURNALISM ,JOURNALISTS ,RUSSIAN economy - Abstract
This study examines the questions of ethics and transparency in Russian journalism. The paper explains instances of non-transparent behavior among Russian journalists in light of economic hardship that Russian journalists in the province face in their everyday life. Specifically, this study attempts to explicate the connection between transparency, journalism ethics, and economic and social conditions in which regional journalists function in Russia. This paper argues that morality may depend on economic conditions of an individual and poor economic conditions tend to diminish human dignity. In turn, diminished human dignity more readily puts in jeopardy professional ethical principles and contributes to non-transparent media practices. Poor economic conditions have implications for regional journalism practice in Russia, where they create a vicious circle which Russian journalists fail to break. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This research describes the media representations that are built on Venezuelan migrants in two Colombian border regional newspapers: La Opinion, from Norte de Santander, and La Guajira , in the department that bears the same name. Migration Colombia announces in its studies that in 2017, one of the years of greatest exodus of Venezuelans to Colombia, 37 thousand daily entries of Venezuelan citizens to the country were reported. The border crossings in which high incomes of documented and undocumented persons are registered, are those located in the mentioned departments. Therefore, it is important to ask, from the Theory of Social Representations, and particularly from the Theory of Social Production of Communication, how from the journalistic frontier stories the image of migrants is constructed., Este informe de investigación describe las representaciones mediáticas que se construyen sobre los migrantes venezolanos en dos diarios regionales fronterizos colombianos: La Opinión, en Norte de Santander, y La Guajira, en el departamento que lleva el mismo nombre.

Since few years ago, data journalism has been one of the most studied journalism fields by academics. That is because this phenomenon is new, growing and a strong branch of journalism. Despite this fact, we have not studied how journalists work in local and regional newsrooms using data journalism. Researching the way they work, the lacks they have and how they need to improve their conditions is essential to improving this field. Local and regional journalism is the one that works closest to audiences and can most easily explain reality to its readers. The tools of data journalism are essential to do so in these times when huge amounts of information are generated every single day. However, some journalists find difficult to apply the tools of data journalism in their local and regional newsrooms. By interviewing 13 local journalits who Works on data, we discovered some common feature, structural shortcomings and some proposals to improve their situation. The Spanish journalists interviewed work in different regions and with very different projects, but common features have been found, such as the difficulty of accessing sources or the lack of time to do in-depth data journalism projects due to information immediacy. Another of the main pitfalls discussed is the lack of training on data journalism provided by the Spanish universities, which could foster this form of journalism in small local and regional newsrooms.
