The influence of residual cuts on the deactivation of hierarchical Y zeolite-based catalysts during the co-processing of vacuum gas oil (VGO) with atmospheric residue (ATR) was investigated. The experiments were conducted in a laboratory-scale MAT-type reactor. The conversion of VGO, ATR, and their 70:30 (mass basis) mixture was examined using two composite catalysts: Cat.Y.0.00 and Cat.Y.0.20. The operating conditions closely resembled those of the commercial catalytic cracking process (550 °C and contact times of 10 to 50 s). When ATR was processed individually, the conversion remained below 50 wt%. However, significant improvements in conversion rates were achieved and catalyst deactivation was mitigated when ATR was co-processed with VGO. Notably, the BET surface area and average mesopore volume were adversely impacted by ATR, which also led to the accumulation of high levels of metals and nitrogen on the spent catalyst, detrimentally affecting its acidic and structural properties. Moreover, substantial coke deposition occurred during ATR cracking. The soluble and insoluble coke analysis revealed H/C ratio values of up to 0.36, indicative of polycondensed coke structures with more than ten aromatic rings. The nature of the coke was confirmed through TPO and FTIR analyses. Interestingly, the CatY.0.20 catalyst exhibited less activity loss, retaining superior acid and structural properties. Co-processing Colombian atmospheric residue with ATR loadings of 30 wt% (higher than the typical 20 wt%) in catalysts formulated with hierarchical zeolites presents a promising alternative for commercial applications. The performance of catalysts prepared from hierarchical Y zeolites has been studied during the conversion of vacuum gas oil (VGO) into higher-value products. Two different catalysts have been studied: CatY.0.00 was obtained from the standard zeolite (Y-0.00-M: without alkaline treatment) and CatY.0.20 was prepared from the desilicated zeolite (Y-0-20-M: treated with 0.20 M NaOH). The cracking tests were carried out in a microactivity test (MAT) unit with a fixed-bed reactor at 550 ◦C in the 20–50 s reaction time range, with a catalyst mass of 3 g and a mass flow rate of VGO of 2.0 g/min. The products obtained were grouped according to their boiling point range in dry gas (DG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), naphtha, and coke. The results showed a greater conversion and selectivity to gasoline with the CatY.0.20 catalyst, along with improved quality (RON) of the C5–C12 cut. Conversely, the CatY.0.00 catalyst (obtained from the Y-0.00-M zeolite) showed greater selectivity to gases (DG and LPG), attributable to the electronic confinement effect within the microporous channels of the zeolite. The nature of coke has been studied using different analysis techniques and the impact on the catalysts by comparing the properties of the fresh and deactivated catalysts. The coke deposited on the catalyst surfaces was responsible for the loss of activity; however, the CatY.0.20 catalyst showed greater resistance to deactivation by coke, despite showing the highest selectivity. Given that the reaction occurs in the acid sites of the zeolite and not in the matrix, the increased degree of mesoporosity of the zeolite in the CatY.0.20 catalyst facilitated the outward diffusion of products from the zeolitic channels to the matrix, thereby preserving greater activity [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The reaction of the H2salophen ligand, 2,2′-((1E,1′E)-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanylylidene))bis (methanylylidene))diphenol, with one molar equivalent of Si(NCS)4, MeSi(NCS)3 (13), or HMeSi(NCS)2 afforded neutral hexacoordinate silicon complexes, which have an-NCS bi-functionality (complex 1) and mono-functionality (complex 14). The reaction of Si(NCS)4 with the H2salophen-type ligand1,1′-((1E,1′E)-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene)) bis(naphthalen-2-ol) (H2Noph), afforded the hexacoordinate silicon complex 15, which has an-NCS bi-functionality. Single-crystal X-ray structural and elemental analyses were used to characterize and confirm the structure of the starting material 13 and complexes 1, 14, and 15. The complexes were characterized in solution by 1H, 13C, and silicon-29 nuclear magnetic resonance (29Si NMR) and in the solid state by 29Si cross-polarization/magic angle spinning (CP/MAS) NMR. Because of the poor solubility of complex 1, it was only possible to characterize it in the solid state by 13C and 29Si CP/MAS NMR and in solution by 1H NMR.

This study outlines the investigation into how the compounds CO2, CO, and O2 interact with the active center of titanium (Ti) on the surface of MgCl2 and how these interactions impact the productivity of the Ziegler–Natta catalyst, ultimately influencing the thermal stability of the produced polypropylene. The calculations revealed that the adsorption energies of Ti-CO2-CO and O2 were −9.6, −12.5, and −2.32 Kcal/mol, respectively. Using the density functional theory in quantum calculations, the impacts of electronic properties and molecular structure on the adsorption of CO, O2, and CO2 on the Ziegler–Natta catalyst were thoroughly explored. Additionally, the Gibbs free energy and enthalpy of adsorption were examined. It was discovered that strong adsorption and a significant energy release (−16.2 kcal/mol) during CO adsorption could explain why this gas caused the most substantial reductions in the ZN catalyst productivity. These findings are supported by experimental tests showing that carbon monoxide has the most significant impact on the ZN catalyst productivity, followed by carbon dioxide, while oxygen exerts a less pronounced inhibitory effect. Cobalt molybdenum carbide supported on activated carbon was synthesized and the effect of sulfiding in catalytic activity of the glycerol trioleate deoxygenation process (DOX) was evaluated. Prior to glyceryl trioleate deoxygenation reactions, the catalyst was reduced and sulfided with CS2/H2. CoMo/CA carbide was characterized by specific area (B.E.T), X-ray diffraction (DRX), elemental analysis (CHON-S), potentiometric titration with butylamine and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The surface area of the CoMo/CA carbide and the support were 246 m2/g and 881 m2/g, respectively. The XRD analysis verified the presence of the Co6Mo6C2 and metallic cobalt. XPS showed the presence at the surface of signals assignable to Mod+, Mo4+, Mo6+, Co2+, S2- and SO4 2-. The sulfided CoMo/CA carbide showed higher glyceryl trioleate deoxygenation activity than the no sulfided CoMo/CA carbide. The highest yield was obtained at 310 °C, 900 psi H2 and 2 h of reaction (conversion to 100%) and a higher selectivity to heptadecane (55%) and octadecane (45%), favoring the decarboxylation (HDCX) and decarbonylation (HDCn) than the hydrodeoxygenation (HDO).
