Safe handling and correct holding of uncooperative patients who pose a threat to themselves or their surroundings are important skills that help healthcare professionals manage difficult situations when providing healthcare services and ensure the safety of the surroundings and the patient themselves. In the Czech environment, the issue of safe handling and holding has not received as much attention as in some neighbouring countries, where in some cases inappropriate holding has resulted in patient harm. In the following text, we focus on the risks of using the pronation position. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

METAL detectors ,ARCHAEOLOGICAL finds ,REMOTE sensing ,CASTLES ,METAL industry - Abstract
So far, the study presents the conclusions of the survey only from the central part of the Kaltenštejn Castle hillock, which has been imperilled for a long time by the illegal activities of the so-called treasure hunters, who destroy the castle with excavations and steal archaeological finds from it. Mainly non-destructive archaeological methods (surface prospecting, remote sensing, GPR and metal detectors) were used, which helped to protect movable finds (metal artefacts) and contributed to a better mapping of the real state of the site. The information obtained will primarily serve to evaluate the condition of the castle and the proposal for its preservation, but, at the same time, it will help to better understand this location, both chronologically and in terms of construction and history. - Abstract
In the contemporary research of playful behavior in animals, it has not yet been reliably tested whether the experimental limitations of play in the critical phase of ontogenesis will have a negative effect on motor, emotional and cognitive skills in the later stages of an individual's development. In this thesis, we try to separate the influence of kinematic and social limitations of play experience by comparing three treatments of Long-Evans laboratory rats, in which rats were exposed to different play experience in the period between the 24th and 66th postnatal day. In this early period of ontogenesis, all male rats were allowed to play for one hour a day. According to the treatment, it was either modified the rats' play environment or the play was reduced by a socially less playful partner. In full-play treatment, the Long-Evans focal laboratory rat was allowed to play in the full extent of movement in the entire environment of a play arena. The play was enabled throughout the whole experiment with a partner of same Long-Evans strain. The same strain paired arrangement for the play was present in the second treatment with kinematically-reduced play, however the space for the play behavior was limited by a radical lowering of a ceiling of the play arena to such an extent that any three-...

The article provides a brief summary of the status and results of research related to the mapping of World War II sites using non-destructive archaeological methods. The primary goal of the project was to evaluate selected sites in order to determine their condition and, subsequently, to propose monument protection. The purpose of the second level was to find out and verify the potential of non-destructive methods in obtaining archaeological sources and evaluating their informative value in the reconstruction of events that occurred in the past. MENTAL health services , *SMOKING cessation , *TOBACCO use , *PSYCHIATRIC treatment , *SMOKING - Abstract
Tobacco use is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. The prevalence of tobacco smoking is significantly higher among patients undergoing psychiatric treatment compared to the general population. Despite clear evidence of positive effects resulting from the cessation of smoking in patients receiving mental health treatment, quitting smoking still remains a controversial issue among specialists. In 2018, Military University Hospital Prague introduced a pilot fully non-smoking environment at the acute psychiatric care department. Part of this concept is a complex ban on tobacco use during hospitalization (including new forms of tobacco and nicotine products). The project proved to be viable, it doesn't significantly complicate the course of hospitalization and the acute psychiatric care department is already permanently in a non-smoking regime. All support is available to patients to bridging the period when they can't smoke. Because smoking cessation has an impact on the plasma concentrations of some psychopharmaceuticals, monitoring is established in teamwork with a clinical pharmacist. At the same time, the smoking cessation in psychiatric treatment is full of many myths that still prevent professionals from introducing non-smoking environments. The aim of this article is to contribute to a further discussion on the spread of non-smoking policy in psychiatric and addictology workplaces. Three years of experience from the psychiatric ward in Military University Hospital Prague show that it is possible to implement and adhere to it without negative consequences. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The original objectives of the SGS/4/2020 project "Use of graphite in the northern part of the Moravian-Bohemian borderland in prehistory and the Middle Ages", carried out by the Institute of Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy and Sciences, Silesian University in Opava, and the Archaeological Department of Regional Museum Litomyšl, were restricted by the epidemic. Regarding its prehistoric part, only geomagnetical measurements were carried at the Neolithic settlement of Nedošín 11 (geomagnetical map of an area of around 5,400 sqm in the south-western part of the site) and at the Staré Město - Bílá Studně [Old Town - lonely house White Well] site (negative outcome). A total of 21 ceramic samples from 6 sites were selected from the collections of RML for micro-petrographic analysis, of which 9 samples came from the Staré Město 1 site and 7 samples from the Hradec nad Svitavou site. These are two generally synchronous (middle phase of Linear Pottery Culture) monocultural settlements that have been examined through excavation in recent years. In particular, the analyses showed a significant technological difference between the samples of ceramics from both sites. The rock used in the temper is different, while in Hradec the temper is also very often rough-grained, in contrast to Staré Město, and burnt organic (plant) additives are found in it, still completely missing in Staré Město. They also showed that we need to distinguish between two groups of graphite ceramics in the region - ceramics with the unintentional addition of graphite (mere fragments of graphite rock in the temper), which prevail in Hradec, and real or actual graphite ceramics (fine graphite pigment in the matrix, lumps of graphite in the temper), which prevail in Staré Město; however, ceramics from both groups are present in both locations. Unfortunately, it is still not possible to conclusively identify the source of graphite raw material for Staré Město 1. The assumption that it is located at the foot of Dubina Hill was supported by the discovery of a hitherto unknown outcrop at a distance of only around 500 m from the settlement. The site in Hradec certainly did not use material from Dubina; based on dislocation on the right bank of the River Svitava, we can perhaps consider sources in the vicinity of Svojanov, although their exploitation in prehistory has not yet been documented. The Safewards model offers an inspiring approach to creating a positive atmosphere in psychiatric wards. It was developed by a team of researchers led by Prof. Len Bowers of Kings College, London. The authors try to understand and describe the basic sources of conflict in psychiatric wards, their triggers and possible reactions of staff. Based on extensive research, they then propose specific interventions to minimize the occurrence of conflicts, incidents and the use of restrictive measures. The Safewards model is currently used in many psychiatric wards in a number of European countries, such as Germany, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Poland and elsewhere. The current experience with its implementation is very positive and the results have been published in many scholarly journals. In 2020, we managed to translate into Czech a large part of texts that are freely accessible to professional and lay public on www.safewards.net. The following text summarizes the basic concepts of the Safewards model and briefly describes the constituent interventions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper presents a simulation analysis of the overall efficiency of Dual Motor Drive System (DMDS). The simulation was performed in software Ricardo Ignite. The main objective of the analysis was to verify the idea of using two different electric motors connected to the input of a single-speed transmission with mechanical differential. The analysis was performed with the drivetrain considered for a vehicle in C-segment. The results confirmed the expected high values of overall drive efficiency and can be used as a basis for further advanced simulations and electric drives experiments.

Effect of global poverty reduction on wild animal welfare Abstract This thesis aims to find a connection in the form of theory or economic model between two concepts - world poverty and wild animal welfare. By synthesising contemporary knowledge, we aim to answer the question of whether there are scientifically-based explanations for the relationship between decreasing global poverty and welfare of wild animals. We also aim to answer the question of whether the welfare of wild animals is worsening or improving with declining global poverty. Assuming that animals are sentient beings, their welfare is negatively affected by the variety of human activities. These activities can be undertaken by humans intentionally (e.g. hunting) or unintentionally, with the industrial activities leading to the disruption of animal habitats or chemical contamination of the biosphere. We approach the problem of reducing global poverty on wild animal welfare in two ways. First, we find an explanation of the relationship between the growth of society's wealth and environmental degradation from a macro-perspective using the environmental Kuznets curve and its derivative - animal welfare Kuznets curve. Using these curves, however, the interpretation of the impact of poverty reduction on wild animal welfare can only be very limited....

NICOTINE replacement therapy , *EMPLOYEE motivation , *NICOTINE addiction , *PATIENT satisfaction , *MENTAL illness - Abstract
The number of smokers in the Czech population is around 25-30%. In the population of people with mental illness, the number of smokers is 2 times higher. Tobacco dependence is a very important preventable factor associated with a higher risk of many serious diseases. People with mental illness die 10 to 20 years earlier than the general population. Despite the above facts, completely non-smoking psychiatric wards in the Czech Republic are rather the exception. There are numbers of barriers and prejudices preventing the emergence of non-smoking psychiatric workplaces. In this article we describe specific experiences with the introduction of non-smoking environment at the psychiatric ward at UVN. There, after the introduction of a total smoking ban, we tried to monitor various parameters showing the possible impact of this measure on life on wards. We have noticed the reactions of staff and patients, the cost of nicotine replacement therapy, patient satisfaction, the growth of conflicts. We present our findings in our text, which may be a motivation for other workplaces or at least an inspiration to reflect on the many myths that accompany smoking restrictions in psychiatric wards. This thesis is focused on the study of glycosphingolipids in the rat liver in different types of cholestasis and the effect of oxidative stress on changes in the composition and localization of gangliosides. First, it was necessary to optimize the immunochemical detection of glycosphingolipids. GM1 ganglioside was selected as a representative of a large glycolipid family. We found that minimum water content in the fixing solution was a key condition for fixation of histological sections. Optimized method of GM1 detection was subsequently used in in vivo experiments. We have demonstrated that estrogen-induced cholestasis characterized by high concentrations of bile acids and increased oxidative stress caused changes in the synthesis and distribution of liver gangliosides. HMOX induction is associated with a reduction in oxidative stress level and accompanied by normalization in GSL content. In experiments with obstructive cholestasis, we found that changes in the distribution and synthesis of gangliosides were not strictly specific to a particular type of cholestasis. We assume that it represents a general mechanism of hepatoprotection. We also confirmed the important role of bilirubin, product of HMOX reaction, in protection of hepatocytes against oxidative damage caused by high concentrations of...

ARCHAEOLOGICAL excavations ,RAW materials ,GRAPHITE ,POTSHERDS ,POTTERY ,CERAMICS - Abstract
During the interdisciplinary training of students from the Institute of Archaeology, Faculty of Philosophy and Science, Silesian University in Opava in August 2018, among other things, a probe archaeological excavation was conducted in the settlement of Linear Pottery culture at Staré Město near Moravská Třebová (loc. 1) and a survey of lithic raw material sources in the environs was carried out. Relatively close to the settlement (2.5 km as the crow flies), a small natural occurrence of graphite rocks was discovered east of the area of the agricultural company I. MTZ, Ltd. on the outskirts of Moravská Třebová. Graphite appears to be admixed in about a quarter of the ceramics from the Neolithic settlement and fragments of graphite rocks were found during its surface survey as well. Graphite pottery is known also from other localities in the cadastral area of Staré Město village (loc. 4) (the La Tène period) and from the Staré Město built-up area (the end of the 12
th -13th century AD). The basis for our study of the issue in a broader context was represented by two stages of surface survey at the mentioned and other localities in the surroundings and petrographic analysis of 17 samples of graphite rocks and graphite ceramics from older and new findings from the region of Moravská Třebová. As the most important results of the analyses can be considered the indications for the (at least regional) distribution of graphite vessels in the period of Linear Pottery culture and for existence of probably only one pottery workshop supplying all the microregion of StaréMěsto and its surroundings at the turn of the Early and High Middle Ages. Reuse preferences for post‐agricultural brownfields on former socialist agricultural premises in CEE countries are likely to be diverse and may depend on communities' experiences. Our research question is to reveal, through a questionnaire survey of 774 respondents from 180 communities, the difference in reuse preferences among communities with different experiences: communities where former collective farm sites had been abandoned (leaving a post‐agricultural brownfield), those where such sites had remained in continuous agricultural use, and those where such sites had been abandoned and later remediated or reused. The responses from the three types of communities were compared using Kruskal–Wallis tests and the structure of preferences was analyzed by Non‐Metric Multidimensional Scaling. Communities with an existing post‐agricultural brownfield prefer housing and leisure activities, while communities with sites in continuous agricultural production prefer agrarian uses. Two main poles of choice were identified—productive and non‐productive uses. While productive uses are preferred by respondents from communities with continuous agricultural production, non‐productive uses are preferred by communities with former post‐agricultural brownfields. The presence of post‐agricultural brownfields within the community is an important factor in determining a community's preferences for its reuse. When agricultural sites are abandoned, communities' preferences for its reuse also change. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Our paper aims to explore the role of subsistence farming in Hungary by reviewing the literature, analyzing the primary data from a representative survey conducted in 2018 in Hungary and presenting two case‐studies. According to European and national‐level policy analysis, subsistence farming is a cornerstone of European agriculture, as it is a central element of a positive rural image. The paper is based on earlier theories on subsistence farming, and argues that it is worth analyzing the different factors influencing subsistence farming in order to better understand the motivations of participating in this kind of activity. The paper analyses the role of five different factors on subsistence farming: economic, societal, policy, discursive, and sustainability factors, and argues that, although all five factors are important in order to understand the phenomenon, economic and policy factors are the most important in this type of activity, while sustainability is almost imperceptible. This article examines social and ethnic group membership among sixthgrade students at a Czech lower secondary school whose student population is predominantly heterogeneous in terms of ethnicity. The main focus is on group membership in the sixth grade, which is considered as the worst class at school and which is attended by several Roma boys and girls. Special attention is paid to the boundary constructions in the groups of children from an anthropological perspective and interactionism. The article is based on qualitative, and ethnographic fieldwork. The central method of the fieldwork was observation. This method was partially supplemented by materials from the school evaluations and interviews with teachers and other respondents during the field research. Research findings derive from fieldwork conducted at the school that is perceived as problematic by local residents. The school is located near a socially excluded locality in the Czech Republic where a large number of the buildings are in deplorable condition, with many apartments unoccupied. Many city residents consider the locality to be a "Roma ghetto". The article contributes to understanding the grouping and social and interethnic communication among twelve-year-old students. The article sheds light on the benefits of being in a group and how students and groups communicate with each other. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Appreciation for the contributions of urban home food gardens to social-ecological resilience, food security, and human health is growing, most recently as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the precarities it has laid bare in the food system. In this study, we used actor-network theory as a guiding sensibility to explore the sociomaterial dynamics of urban home food gardens in a low-income, Black-majority neighbourhood on Chicago's south side. As collectives, gardens gathered diverse human and nonhuman actors including soil, plants, family members, friends, strangers, and government and non-government organisations. Relations of care, of humans and nonhumans, stabilised networks, as did the co-construction of identity. The care provided for nonhumans, however, did not always qualify as good care, and practices of care for humans through sharing food and plants from the garden were more complicated than suggested by previous studies. Gardening networks – and associated communities of practice – were contracting because of illness, death, and migration of gardeners from the neighbourhood. Based on study results, we make several policy recommendations for expanding urban home food gardening, including increased financial, technical, and material support from local governments and the promotion of gardening as a practice of care in a more-than-human world. Drawing on the speech act theory as well as narrative and cultural criminology, this paper aims to make a contribution regarding the functions of narratives in a street context. The concept of narrative violence is introduced and used to analyze the phenomenon of podělávání (a hardly translatable Czech word, semantically close to a hustle) that takes place in marginalized and ethnically segregated areas of the Czech Republic. Podělávání refers to a situation in which a person borrows money without the intention of paying it back. Stories are central to this endeavor, as they legitimize the loan and make the lender believe that s/he is not a victim but merely the party in a transaction that has not yet been satisfied. In reality, however, such narratives contribute to the production of both perlocutionary and illocutionary harm. The story-telling and story-listening involved in podělávání deprive the victim of money (economic capital) as well as reputation (symbolic or street capital) in the streets. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The purpose of the paper - Thomas: His Role and Importance in the Gospel of John - is to offer an interpretation of the texts which are about Thomas, who belongs to the circle of the twelve disciples of Jesus. Thomas is mentioned in the Synoptic Gospels and in the Acts of the Apostles only in the list of Jesus' disciples (Matt 10:3; Mark 3:18; Luke 6:15; Acts 1:13). By contrast, in the Gospel of John his name, somewhat surprisingly, appears altogether seven times. We meet Thomas in four different places (John 11:16; 14:5-7; 20:24-29; 21:2) which are important in the gospel narrative. The detailed exegesis will help us to outline the main characteristics of the portrait of Thomas and to point out his role and importance in the Gospel of John. Thomas is introduced as a disciple of the circle of the Twelve, who understands Jesus entirely in earthly categories and who is able to look only with difficulty beyond his death (John 11:16; 14:5). The divine dimension of Jesus, which is unavailable to Thomas, is opened to him by the resurrected Jesus himself. Thomas, who is characterized by doubts and scepticism at an encounter with the resurrected Jesus, makes a thoroughgoing personal confession (John 20:28), the highest Christological profession in the Gospel of John. Finally, Thomas' presence in the circle of seven disciples in John 21:2, who represent the Church in missionary engagement, makes obvious that there are also those in the Church who are characterized by doubts and scepticism, who ask questions and are reluctant to believe. The aim of this article is to analyse the political aspects of food and their significance as an object of study. The first author of the article has studied Polish society as an insider, while the other author had previously conducted research in other countries, before three years ago starting to explore Poland and Polish gastronomy, and thus finding himself in the role of outsider. The two scholars have recently been working together. The power relations between the societies and the academic worlds from which they come turned out to be crucial to the research dynamics and became one of the paper's key interests. Two main topics provide the structure of the collaborative paper: 1) the question of the authors' positionality; 2) the legitimacy issues related to the study of food within academia and to scholars' engagement outside it. The authors agree that an inextricable connection of food and politics has not only an academic or theoretical dimension, but also impacts on the realities of people's lives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ALLOTMENT gardens ,POLITICAL change ,CIVIL society ,ALLOTMENT of land ,URBAN agriculture ,SOCIAL history - Abstract
Allotment gardens have played a significant role in Czech and Slovak society for decades, building upon a rich history of gardening. This article elaborates on Czech and Slovak allotments in the European context and identifies their core functions, services, and benefits. We provide a thorough historical review of allotments in this region, reaching back to the eighteenth century to trace significant periods and historic events that shaped society in general and urban gardening in particular. We analyze the development of allotments until and after 1989 and illustrate key aspects of their present situation using case studies and examples. The article provides a complex historical narrative as a good basis for discussions on contemporary trends, challenges, and visions for the future of urban allotment gardening in both countries. The research objective of the article is to analyse the rules on authorship and joint authorship of databases, as well as the ownership and joint ownership of database makers’ sui generis rights as provided for in the Directive 96/9/EC on the legal protection of databases (DD) and its selected national implementations, and to identify the underlying problems and discuss solutions how to overcome them contractually. In order to achieve this objective, an analysis of the black-letter law and case law is provided in the second section of the paper. The DD, however, does not provide much guidance when it comes to defining the author (or joint authors) and owner (or joint owners) and leaves a lot of leeway to Member States, as is further analysed in the third section. In the fourth section of the paper, the focus turns to issues of applicable law that determine the author(s) and rights owner(s) in cases where the protectable subject matter was created/produced jointly by multiple entities from various jurisdictions. In the final fifth section of the paper, the appropriate contractual arrangements of jointly owned rights are presented as a possible solution to the legal uncertainty raised by the current black-letter law. The thesis is based on the needs of non-medical staff members in acute psychiatric care. The main aim of the thesis is to identify the needs of staff members and the relationship to their work. The theme is focussed on theoretical part and formed by information about the needs, motives and motivation in general within a working context. It further focuses on the branch of mental health care, describing the history of psychiatric nursing and current trends in psychiatric care. It then provides an analysis of specifics of psychiatric nursing and goes on to present the possibilities of professional support of the nursing staff. The practical part describes a qualitative study that aims on identification of needs of non-medical staff members working on acute psychiatric unit. The result of the study is formed by 23 identified domains of the needs implanted into the theoretical framework of Maslow's hierarchy of needs. In making recommendations for practise the author uses two attitudes for practical implementation of the results: 1. the results are rearranged into Herzberg's two factor model of motivation, 2. the mind map is used to capture the most dominant groups of needs and their mutual interferences. The thesis concludes by proposing an implementation of supervision into the organization where the...

- Abstract
Literatures of small nations represent a minuscule portion of the global literary marketplace, where books written in English outnumber translated works. The struggle for visibility in relation to dominant languages and cultures is not new in Slovakia, a nation of five million whose literary history has been shaped by the influence of more widely spoken languages including Hungarian, Czech, and Russian.Home and the World in Slovak Writing brings Slovak literature out of this isolation to tell the story of how a nation's literature can survive and thrive despite a small domestic audience and relatively limited circulation in English translation. The book demonstrates how historic events such as the post-Stalin Thaw, the Prague Spring, and the Velvet Revolution moulded the Slovak canon and situates contemporary Slovak literature in broader regional and global contexts. Through case studies of the transformations and adaptations of Slovak literature, contributors examine the changing social roles of writers, the tensions between tradition and innovation, and the dynamic interactions between influences from the outside world and domestic sources of inspiration.Home and the World in Slovak Writing maps the relationship between geopolitical destiny and literary production at a critical moment. As relations between the East and the West are destabilized by war, the question of cultural identity has again become a matter of national survival in Central Europe.

- Abstract
To inhabitants of the Gulf Coast region of Louisiana, food is much more than nourishment. The acts of gathering, preparing, and sharing food are ways to raise children, bond with friends, and build community. In Bayou Harvest: Subsistence Practice in Coastal Louisiana, Helen A. Regis and Shana Walton examine how coastal residents deploy self-reliance and care for each other through harvesting and sharing food. Pulling from four years of fieldwork and study, Walton and Regis explore harvesting, hunting, and foraging by Native Americans, Cajuns, and other Bayou residents. This engagement with Indigenous thinkers and their neighbors yields a multifaceted view of subsistence in Louisiana. Readers will learn about coastal residents'love for the land and water, their deep connections to place, and how they identify with their food and game heritage. The book also delves into their worries about the future, particularly storms, pollution, and land loss in the coastal region. Using a set of narratives that documents the everyday food practices of these communities, the authors conclude that subsistence is not so much a specific task like peeling shrimp or harvesting sassafras, but is fundamentally about what these activities mean to the people of the coast. Drawn together with immersive writing, this book explores a way of life that is vibrant, built on deep historical roots, and profoundly threatened by the Gulf's shrinking coast.

- Abstract
In a small village on the southern coast of Crete, the narrator meets a young man who tells him a history of his journey which took him from Prague as far as to the Libyan sea. It is a voyage to uncover mysterious deaths of two brothers: one was murdered during the ballet performance, the body of the second one was found by Turkish fishermen at the Asia Minor shores. On the move, the amateur detective is accompanied by one of the brothers´ girlfriend. They have to work out a lot of traces, clues and rebuses – seemingly meaningless clusters of letters in the picture of a Hungarian painter, fragments of words created in the sea by bodies of phosphorescing worms, puzzling shapes of jelly sweets found in a small shop in Croatia or the plot of an American sci-fi thriller movie, which the protagonists watch in the cinema in Rome suburb. Such leads send the heroes from town to town, the plot takes part on night trains and many places in Europe - in Bratislava, Budapest, Lublan, on the islands of Mykon and Crete… With the search for the murderer of both the brothers many other stories are interconnected, and they take the readers to even more distant places of the Earth: Moscow, Boston, Mexico City…
