Background: Women with higher body mass index report low rates of and face unique barriers to exercise. Increasing exercise participation can improve mental and physical health independent of weight loss; however, most exercise programs targeting this population focus predominately on losing weight. This paper aims to describe the development of Fit&Fab, a community-based exercise intervention focused on increasing exercise participation and enjoyment for women with obesity. Methods: In partnership with the YMCA, we recruited women ages 35–64 years (body mass index ≥ 30) to participate in 4 focus groups to understand exercise preferences. Formative work was used to identify theory constructs and associated intervention components. Women from the focus groups were recruited for a community advisory board that finalized the intervention design, recruitment, and evaluation plan. Results: Focus groups participants (N = 29) preferred to exercise without men and wanted a cohort-style class that included women of similar exercise levels and body types, incorporated social support, fun activities, and broke exercise into smaller bouts. They wanted a supportive instructor who was fit but understood weight-related challenges. The community advisory board and research team used focus group findings to inform design of the final intervention including group exercise classes, psychosocial support sessions, personalized training, exercise tracking, outcome monitoring, and rewards. Conclusions: Our findings emphasize the need to focus on exercise enjoyment and benefits other than losing weight to improve exercise participation among women with higher body mass index. Inconsistencies are evident within the literature regarding the role of Green Tea (GT) supplementation on women living with obesity. To address this, we conducted to determine the impact of GT supplementation on the weight, body mass index (BMI), and waist circumference (WC) in overweight and obese women using time and dose-response meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs). This meta-analysis searched electronic Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and PubMed/Medline databases from inception to December 1st, 2022. Data were reported as weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% confidence interval (CI). A total of 2061 references were identified, and 15 articles with 16 RCT arms on body weight, 17 RCT arms on BMI, and 7 RCT arms on WC were included in the meta-analysis. GT supplementation significantly decreases body weight (WMD: −1.23 kg, 95% CI: −2.13 to −0.33, p = 0.007), BMI (WMD: −0.47 kg/m2, 95% CI: −0.87 to −0.07, p = 0.020) and WC (WMD: −3.46 cm, 95% CI: −6.75 to −0.16, p = 0.040). In subgroup analyses, GT consumption demonstrated lowered body weight with dosaes ≥1000 mg/day (WMD: −1.38 kg), in the RCTs, which lasted ≥8 wk (WMD: −1.24 kg). The non-linear dose-response assessment detected a negative correlation between the changes in body weight and BMI in green tea consumption of more than 1000 (mg/day). The GT supplementation reduced the weight, BMI, and WC in overweight and obese women. In clinical practice, healthcare professionals can recommend using GT with dosages ≥ 1000mg/day and duration ≥ 8 wk in obese women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This scoping review synthesizes evidence on metformin's use during pregnancy, encompassing diverse conditions like gestational diabetes, type 1 and type 2 diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and obesity. Metformin demonstrates comparable efficacy to insulin in gestational diabetes, positive outcomes in type 2 diabetes pregnancies, and potential benefits in reducing complications. The review highlights nuances in its effects across conditions, indicating advantages such as reduced risk of macrosomia and cesarean section in gestational diabetes. However, its prophylactic role in preventing gestational diabetes and associated complications remains inconclusive. In obese pregnant women, mixed results are observed, with potential benefits in reducing pre‐eclampsia risk. Metformin shows promise in preventing preterm birth and late miscarriage in PCOS pregnancies. Categorizing patient subgroups is crucial for identifying advantages, especially in gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Challenges arise from study heterogeneity, necessitating standardized indications for dosage, timing, and postpartum follow ups. Efforts to identify patient characteristics influencing metformin efficacy are crucial for tailored therapy. Although metformin emerges as a viable option in complicated pregnancies, comprehensive research, standardized protocols, and subgroup identification efforts will enhance clinical utility, ensuring evidence‐based therapies and optimal maternal and fetal outcomes. Background Numerous studies have shown that obesity is a risk factor for postoperative complications following breast reconstruction. Hence, obesity has traditionally been considered a relative contraindication to microsurgical breast reconstruction. In this study, we investigated the impact of obesity on outcomes following microsurgical breast reconstruction. Methods A retrospective analysis of 200 consecutive patients who underwent microsurgical breast reconstruction with free abdominal flaps was performed. Subjects were divided into Nonobese (body mass index [BMI] < 30 kg/m 2) and Obese (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m 2) cohorts. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed to evaluate differences in patient characteristics, complication rates, and efficiency metrics between the two groups. Results Of the 200 subjects included in the study, 128 were Nonobese, 72 were Obese. The prevalence of diabetes (3.9 vs. 16.9%, p = 0.002) and hypertension (14.7 vs. 39.4%, p < 0.001) were significantly greater in the Obese cohort. Among unilateral reconstructions, postoperative length of stay (LOS) was longer among Obese patients (3.1 vs. 3.6 days, p = 0.016). Seroma occurred more frequently in Obese patients following bilateral reconstruction (5.7 vs. 0.0%, p = 0.047). Otherwise, there were no significant differences in complication rates between the groups. On multivariate analysis, BMI was not independently associated with complications, LOS, or operative time. Conclusion The improvements in clinical and patient-reported outcomes that have been associated with postmastectomy breast reconstruction do not exclude obese women. Context Obesity is a disease with deleterious effects on the female reproductive tract, including the endometrium. Objective We sought to understand the effects of excess adipose on the benign endometrium. Methods A physiologic in vitro coculture system was developed, consisting of multicellular human endometrial organoids, adipose spheroids, and menstrual cycle hormones. Native human endometrial tissue samples from women with and without obesity were also analyzed. Benign endometrial tissues from premenopausal women ages 33 to 53 undergoing hysterectomy were obtained following written consent at Northwestern University Prentice Women's Hospital, Chicago, Illinois. Gene expression, protein expression, chromatin binding, and expression of DNA damage and oxidative damage markers were measured. Results Under high adiposity conditions, endometrial organoids downregulated endometrial secretory phase genes, suggestive of an altered progesterone response. Progesterone specifically upregulated the metallothionein (MT) gene family in the epithelial cells of endometrial organoids, while high adiposity significantly downregulated the MT genes. Silencing MT genes in endometrial epithelial cells resulted in increased DNA damage, illustrating the protective role of MT s. Native endometrium from women with obesity displayed increased MT expression and oxidative damage in the stroma and not in the epithelium, indicating the cell-specific impact of obesity on MT genes. Conclusion Taken together, the in vitro and in vivo systems used here revealed that high adiposity or obesity can alter MT expression by decreasing progesterone response in the epithelial cells and increasing oxidative stress in the stroma. Objective: Obesity is a complex chronic metabolic disease characterized by excessive body fat accumulation, resulting from an imbalance between energy intake and energy expenditure. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of acceptance and commitment group therapy on cognitive fusion, mindfulness, and body mass index in individuals with obesity. Methods and Materials: This quasi-experimental research was conducted using a pre-test and post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all women who visited a beauty clinic in West Tehran during the first six months of 2020. Sampling was done through convenience sampling. Out of the women who visited the beauty clinic, 40 were selected. The Cognitive Fusion Questionnaire by Gillanders et al. and the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire were administered to the participants. The subjects were then randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group received 12 sessions of 120-minute acceptance and commitment therapy. Post-tests were administered to both the experimental and control groups after the intervention. Findings: The results indicated that acceptance and commitment therapy was effective in reducing cognitive fusion and increasing mindfulness in individuals with obesity (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Given the confirmed effectiveness of acceptance and commitment therapy in treating obesity, it is recommended that therapists consider this therapy to improve cognitive fusion and mindfulness in overweight individuals. The prevalence and factors associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) between men and women in Mongolia were compared using secondary data from the STEPwise approach to non-communicable disease risk factor surveillance conducted in 2019. In total, 5,695 participants (2,577 males and 3,118 females) aged 18–69 years old were enrolled in the study. The prevalence of MetS was 37.4% in total and the prevalence was significantly higher in women (39.2%) than men (35.2%, P = 0.002). The most prevalent MetS components were abdominal obesity in women (74.2%) and high blood glucose levels in men (58.7%). All of the 2,128 participants who were categorized into MetS met the criteria of abdominal obesity. Factors associated with MetS included being 30–69 years old compared to 18–29 years old, low and moderate physical activity levels compared to high levels, history of hypertension and diabetes mellitus, and a high body mass index (overweight and obesity) compared to a normal body mass index in both sexes. Additional factors included Buryat ethnicity compared to Khalkh ethnicity, living in Ulaanbaatar, no education compared to primary education, higher monthly income, and currently drinking in men; and smoking and sufficient fruit and vegetable intake in women. Significant differences were observed between men and women in terms of the prevalence of MetS, components of MetS, and factors associated with MetS. To reduce MetS prevalence in Mongolia, sex-specific programs should be designed to promote health behavior, such as reducing alcohol consumption in men and smoking in women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Emotional eating (EE) is particularly prevalent in overweight or obese women, who may turn to food as a way to cope with stress, sadness, or anxiety. Limited research has been conducted on the association between EE and nutritional intake. Therefore, present study was designed to explore this association in adult women with overweight and obesity. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the relationship between EE and nutritional intake in 303 overweight and obese women (aged 18–50 years) was examined. The researchers used the validated semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) to assess participants' nutritional intake and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ) to evaluate their eating behavior. To determine the association between EE and nutritional intake, we employed the multiple linear regression analysis. Results: The frequency of high intensity EE was 64.4% among the study participants and the mean total score of EE subscale of DBEQ was 2.32 ± 0.81. The total score of EE was positively associated with the energy intake (β = 0.396, P = 0.007), even after adjusting for age and BMI. In addition, a significant inverse association was found between the score of EE and the daily intake of calcium (β= -0.219, P = 0.026), riboflavin (β= -0.166, P = 0.043), and vitamin B12 (β= -0.271, P = 0.035), independent from energy and age. Also the results showed a significant positive association between the score of EE and the frequency of daily intake of cracker, muffin, cake, cream cake, pastry, candy, ice cream, pickles, melon, hydrogenated vegetable oil, peanut, salted and roasted seeds, and corn-cheese puff snack. Conclusion: This study found that overweight or obese women with higher intensity of EE might have a higher intake of energy and a lower intake of dietary calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B12. Objective: The objective of the present study was to examine the effect of calorie restricted diet (CRD) plus inulin supplementation on serum levels of tryptophan (Trp), kynurenine (Kyn) and Trp/Kyn ratio in obese women with major depressive disorder (MDD). Results: In this double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial, 51 obese women (BMI = 30–40 kg/m2) with mild MDD were assessed for depression level using Hamilton depression rating scale (HDRS). The patients were randomly allocated into either "Prebiotic group" (received 10 g/day inulin) or "Placebo group" (received 10 g/day maltodextrin). All participants also received individualized CRD. Fasting serum levels of Trp, Kyn, and Trp/Kyn ratio were assessed at baseline and after 8 weeks. Results showed slightly greater increases in serum levels of Trp and Trp/Kyn ratio as well as reductions in serum level of Kyn and HDRS score in prebiotic group than placebo group. However, between group differences in these parameters as well as HDRS score were not statistically significant after adjusting for baseline variables at the end of the trial. Results indicates that CRD accompanied by inulin supplementation (10 g/day) did not influence serum levels of Trp, Kyn and Trp/Kyn ratio as well as HDRS score after 8 weeks. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To compare the risk profiles, anatomical, and functional outcomes between obese and non‐obese women who experienced obstetric anal sphincter injury (OASI).A retrospective electronic database study was conducted at Cork University Maternity Hospital (CUMH). Women with missing data/repairs conducted outside CUMH were excluded. Participants were categorized into obese (BMI ≥30 kg/m2) and non‐obese (BMI <30 kg/m2) groups. Primary measure was a composite adverse outcome assessed 6 months post‐delivery, including one or more of the following: resting pressure <40 mmHg, squeezing pressure <100 mmHg, defects in the internal and/or external anal sphincter. Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 28.Among the 349 women included in the study, 285 (81.7%) had a BMI <30 kg/m2 and 64 (18.3%) had a BMI ≥30 kg/m2. Gestational diabetes was significantly higher in obese women. No significant differences were observed in newborn weight or mode of delivery. The majority of tears were classified as grade 3B in both groups. Attendance rates at the OASI clinic did not differ between the groups. Among those attending, no statistical differences were noted in manometry results, which were reduced in both groups. Rates of internal anal sphincter defects were lower in the obese group (7.0% vs 15.6%, P = 0.15) and external anal sphincter defects were significantly lower in obese women (0% vs 9.1%, P = 0.04). No difference was found in the rates of composite adverse outcomes between the groups.Functional outcomes and manometry results did not differ, but non‐obese women had higher rates of anatomical defects in OASI, requiring further study. Summary The negative impacts of perceived discrimination on health have been documented, but how perceptions of discrimination vary by sex among people with obesity (PWO) is not well understood. This study assessed sex differences in perceived discrimination among PWO. This cross‐sectional study analysed self‐reported data from racially/ethnically diverse PWO attending an academic obesity program. The primary outcome was perceived discrimination, assessed by the Major Experiences of Discrimination (MED) and Everyday Discrimination Scale (EDS). Sex differences were evaluated by univariate and multivariable regression analysis adjusted for key descriptive variables. The final analytical sample included 60 PWO (62% female, 61% non‐Hispanic white (NHW), 12% Hispanic, 39% non‐Hispanic black (NHB), mean age 53 years, mean BMI 34 kg/m2). Women experienced everyday discrimination 59% less than men but this was not significant (OR 0.41; 95% CI 0.08–2.16; p = .29). Participant highest BMI was correlated with acute discrimination (total MED score) (r = 0.39; p = .0024) and chronic discrimination (total EDS score) (r = 0.28; p = .03). Most participants reported more chronic discrimination compared to acute discrimination (85% vs. 48%). Mean MED (β −0.18; 95% CI –0.93 to +0.56; p = .62) and EDS scores (β −0.25; 95% CI –3.37 to +2.87; p = .87) were not significantly different between women and men. Perceived discrimination was common and experienced equally between men and women with obesity. Background: Ovulatory dysfunction is more common in women with obesity. Body fat distribution is also crucial because anovulatory women have a greater waist circumference and more abdominal fat than ovulatory women of similar BMI. The primary aim of the present study is to determine whether there is a relationship between BMI and reproductive characteristics, including hormonal values, antral follicle count (AFC), endometrial assessment at transvaginal ultrasound evaluation (TVUS) during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS), and oocyte retrieval after Ovum Pick-Up (OPU). Methods: Data from a cohort of 183 patients were analyzed and divided into three groups based on weight status: normal weight, overweight, and obesity. Evaluated reproductive characteristics included: age, basal values of folliclestimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), 17-beta-estradiol (E2), thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH), anti-müllerian hormone (AMH), antralfollicle-count (AFC), duration of COS, E2, and progesterone at the last monitoring, TVUS endometrial thickness at the last monitoring before OPU, FOI after OPU. Additionally, the number of meiosis II oocytes retrieved (MII), the total dose of FSH administered, the ratio between MII and total FSH administered, and OSI were registered. Results: AMH levels were significantly lower in obese patients compared to normal weight and overweight women (1.05 IQR 1.20, 1.58 IQR 2.16, 1.32 IQR 1.38, respectively, p-value = 0.032). When looking at the MII/FSH ratio, the normal weight group showed a median value of 3.3 with an IQR of 4.0, the overweight group showed a median value of 2.3 with an IQR of 1.9, and the obese group had a median value of 2.6 with an IQR of 2.8. Those data were statistically significant (p-value = 0.049). Conclusion: These results emphasize the importance of considering weight status in fertility assessment and treatment planning. Aim Materials and Methods Results Conclusions To investigate the independent and combined effects of muscle strength and visceral adiposity on prediabetes and type 2 diabetes incidence among midlife women.In this prospective study of midlife women (mean age 56.4 years), visceral adiposity, defined as visceral adipose tissue (VAT) >131 cm2 measured by dual energy X‐ray absorptiometry, and poor combined muscle strength, defined as handgrip strength <18 kg and/or five‐time repeated chair stand test performance ≥12 s, were determined at baseline between 2014 and 2016. After 6.6 years, the effects of VAT and muscle strength on risk of incident prediabetes (fasting blood glucose 5.6–6.9 mmol/L) and type 2 diabetes (fasting blood glucose levels ≥7 mmol/L, medication use, or physician diagnosis) were examined using modified Poisson regression analysis.Among the 733 initially normoglycaemic participants, 150 (20.5%) developed prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Women with both poor combined muscle strength and high VAT had the highest risk for both prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (adjusted relative risk [aRR] 2.63, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.81–3.82). In comparison, high VAT alone increased risk by 1.78‐fold (95% CI 1.12–2.84). Stratification analyses showed that among women with low muscle strength, high VAT demonstrated increased risks of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes (aRR 2.84, 95% CI 1.95–4.14) compared to those with normal strength (aRR 1.66, 95% CI 1.04–2.65).Low combined muscle strength with high VAT poses a greater risk for the development of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes than high VAT alone. Background: Obesity, and in particular abdominal obesity, is associated with an increased risk of developing a variety of chronic diseases. Obesity, aging, and menopause are each associated with differential shifts in the gut microbiome. Obesity causes chronic low-grade inflammation due to increased lipopolysaccharide (LPS) levels which is termed "metabolic endotoxemia." We examined the association of visceral adiposity tissue (VAT) area, circulating endotoxemia markers, and the gut bacterial microbiome in a cohort of aged postmenopausal women. Methods: Fifty postmenopausal women (mean age 78.8 ± 5.3 years) who had existing adipose measurements via dual x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) were selected from the extremes of VAT: n = 25 with low VAT area (45.6 ± 12.5 cm2) and n = 25 with high VAT area (177.5 ± 31.3 cm2). Dietary intake used to estimate the Healthy Eating Index (HEI) score was assessed with a food frequency questionnaire. Plasma LPS, LPS-binding protein (LBP), anti-LPS antibodies, anti-flagellin antibodies, and anti-lipoteichoic acid (LTA) antibodies were measured by ELISA. Metagenomic sequencing was performed on fecal DNA. Female C57BL/6 mice consuming a high-fat or low-fat diet were treated with 0.4 mg/kg diet-derived fecal isolated LPS modeling metabolic endotoxemia, and metabolic outcomes were measured after 6 weeks. Results: Women in the high VAT group showed increased Proteobacteria abundance and a lower Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes ratio. Plasma LBP concentration was positively associated with VAT area. Plasma anti-LPS, anti-LTA, and anti-flagellin IgA antibodies were significantly correlated with adiposity measurements. Women with high VAT showed significantly elevated LPS-expressing bacteria compared to low VAT women. Gut bacterial species that showed significant associations with both adiposity and inflammation (anti-LPS IgA and LBP) were Proteobacteria (Escherichia coli, Shigella spp., and Klebsiella spp.) and Veillonella atypica. Healthy eating index (HEI) scores negatively correlated with % body fat and anti-LPS IgA antibodies levels. Preclinical murine model showed that high-fat diet-fed mice administered a low-fat diet fecal-derived LPS displayed reduced body weight, decreased % body fat, and improved glucose tolerance test parameters when compared with saline-injected or high-fat diet fecal-derived LPS-treated groups consuming a high-fat diet. Conclusions: Increased VAT in postmenopausal women is associated with elevated gut Proteobacteria abundance and immunogenic metabolic endotoxemia markers. Objective: To evaluate the associations of plasma polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) concentrations in early pregnancy with gestational weight gain (GWG). Design: Prospective cohort study. Setting: US‐based, multicentre cohort of pregnant women. Population: We used data from 2052 women without obesity and 397 women with obesity participating in the NICHD Fetal Growth Studies – Singleton Cohort, with first‐trimester plasma PBDE concentrations and weight measurements throughout pregnancy. Methods: We applied generalised linear models and Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) to evaluate both the individual and joint associations of PBDEs with measures of GWG, adjusting for potential confounders. Main outcome measures: Total GWG (kg), total and trimester‐specific GWG velocities (kg/week), and GWG categories and trajectory groups. Results: Mean pre‐pregnancy BMIs were 23.6 and 34.5 kg/m2 for women without and with obesity, respectively. Among women without obesity, there were no associations of PBDEs with any GWG measure. Among women with obesity, one standard deviation increase in log‐transformed PBDE 47 was associated with a 1.87 kg higher total GWG (95% CI 0.39–3.35) and a 0.05 kg/week higher total GWG velocity (95% CI 0.01–0.09). Similar associations were found for PBDE 47 in BKMR among women with obesity, and PBDE 47, 99 and 100 were associated with lower odds of being in the low GWG trajectory group. Conclusions: PBDEs were not associated with GWG among individuals without obesity. Among those with obesity, only PBDE 47 showed consistent positive associations with GWG measures across multiple statistical methods. Objective: To evaluate the effects of magnifying the damage caused by obesity induced by monosodium glutamate, using a model of maternal periodontitis, on the structure of the anterior tibialis muscle of the offspring. Materials and Methods: Twenty‐four female Wistar rats were divided into four experimental groups: control (n = 6), obese (n = 6), control with periodontitis (n = 6) and obese with periodontitis (n = 6). At 78 days of life, the rats were mated with males without any experimental intervention. The offspring of these rats (n = 1/L), at 120 days of life, were weighed and measured, then euthanized. Plasma was collected for analysis of cytokines IL‐6, IL‐10, IL‐17 and TNF‐α. Adipose tissues were collected and weighed, and the anterior tibial muscle was designated for histomorphological analyses (n = 6/group). Results: Monosodium glutamate offspring showed significant muscle changes, such as a reduction in the size of fibres and neuromuscular junctions, and an increase in the nucleus and capillaries. However, all these changes were more expressed in monosodium glutamate‐obese with periodontitis offspring. Conclusion: This leads us to suggest a magnifying effect promoted by periodontitis to the damage already well described by monosodium glutamate‐obesity, determined by low‐intensity inflammation, causing greater muscle damage. Background: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age, characterized by hyperandrogenism, chronic anovulation, and polycystic ovaries. Obesity often exacerbates the clinical manifestations of PCOS, contributing to insulin resistance, metabolic disturbances, and reproductive issues. This study aims to evaluate the effect of a period of aerobic exercises on sexual hormones and appetite in obese women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Methods: This semi-experimental study involved 30 obese women with PCOS, divided into an aerobic exercise group and a control group (15 participants each). The exercise group underwent a supervised 12-week aerobic training program, consisting of three 60-minute sessions per week. Hormonal levels (prolactin, luteinizing hormone [LH], follicle-stimulating hormone [FSH], total testosterone, hydroxyprogesterone, LH/FSH ratio) and appetite scores were measured before and after the intervention. Statistical analyses were performed using ANCOVA to assess the impact of the exercise intervention, adjusting for pre-test scores. Results: Significant improvements were observed in the experimental group postintervention. Prolactin levels decreased from 20.95 ± 2.63 ng/mL to 18.50 ± 1.82 ng/mL (P < 0.001), LH levels from 9.47 ± 2.35 mIU/mL to 6.02 ± 1.45 mIU/mL (P < 0.001), FSH levels from 5.21 ±1.09 mIU/mL to 4.21 ±1.22 mIU/mL (p < 0.001), total testosterone levels from 59.19 ± 20.20 g/mL to 40.62 ± 14.81 g/mL (P < 0.001), and hydroxyprogesterone levels from 4.83 ± 1.65 Mol/L to 3.98 ± 0.95 Mol/L (P < 0.001). The LH/FSH ratio improved from 1.87 ± 0.54 to 1.52 ± 0.47 (p = 0.025), and appetite scores decreased from 7.53 ± 1.50 to 6.33 ± 1.18 (P< 0.001). Conclusion: Aerobic exercise significantly improves hormonal profiles and reduces appetite in obese women with PCOS, highlighting its potential as an effective therapeutic intervention. Background: Hypertension, a major non-communicable disease, is responsible for a significant number of global deaths, including approximately 17.9 million yearly. The Global Burden of Disease 2019 (GBD 2019) estimates that 19% of global deaths are attributed to elevated blood pressure. India, with a population of over 1.4 billion, is facing a serious challenge in combating this silent killer. This study aims to analyze the gender-based prevalence of hypertension in India and explore its associated risk factors using data from the fifth National Family Health Survey (NFHS-5). Methods: NFHS-5 collected data from 636,699 households across all states and union territories. The study includes standardized blood pressure measurements for 17,08,241 individuals aged 15 and above. The data were analyzed using Stata, employing descriptive statistics for the assessment of the prevalence and binary logistic regression to identify predictors of hypertension. Results: The study found the overall prevalence of hypertension in India to be 22.6%, with men (24.1%) having a higher prevalence than women (21.2%). Prevalence increased with age, reaching 48.4% in individuals aged 60 and above. Urban residents had a slightly higher prevalence (25%) than rural residents (21.4%), indicating the rapid spread of hypertension across all populations. Regional variations were observed, with the highest prevalence in Sikkim (37.9%) and the lowest in Rajasthan (16.5%). Increasing age, urban residence, belonging to certain religions (Muslim and other than Hindu or Muslim), and being classified as Scheduled Tribes (ST) were associated with a higher likelihood of hypertension. Conversely, belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) or Other Backward Classes (OBC), being currently unmarried, and having higher education were associated with a lower likelihood of hypertension. Wealth index analysis revealed that those in the richest quintile were more likely to have hypertension. Behavioural risk factors, such as alcohol consumption, overweight, obesity, increased waist circumference, and high blood glucose levels, are positively associated with hypertension. Conclusion: Hypertension is a significant health burden in India, affecting both men and women. Age is the strongest non-modifiable predictor for both men and women. However, ageing women have higher odds of hypertension than ageing men, and this distinction becomes much more evident in their older ages. Obese women, based on BMI, have higher odds of hypertension than men. However, hypertension prevalence is slightly higher among men who are overweight or obese compared to women. BMI, waist circumference, random glucose level, alcohol use, and education level emerged as major predictors. Health education and awareness campaigns are critical to control the growing burden of hypertension in India. Policymakers must focus on preventive measures, targeting lifestyle changes and improved healthcare access for both men and women. Introduction: This study assessed prevalence and time trends of pre‐pregnancy obesity in immigrant and non‐immigrant women in Norway and explored the impact of immigrants' length of residence on pre‐pregnancy obesity prevalence. Material and Methods: Observational data from the Medical Birth Registry of Norway and Statistics Norway for the years 2016–2021 were analyzed. Immigrants were categorized by their country of birth and further grouped into seven super regions defined by the Global Burden of Disease study. Pre‐pregnancy obesity was defined as a body mass index ≥30.0 kg/m2, with exceptions for certain Asian subgroups (≥27.5 kg/m2). Statistical analysis involved linear regressions for trend analyses and log‐binomial regressions for prevalence ratios (PRs). Results: Among 275 609 pregnancies, 29.6% (N = 81 715) were to immigrant women. Overall, 13.6% were classified with pre‐pregnancy obesity: 11.7% among immigrants and 14.4% among non‐immigrants. Obesity prevalence increased in both immigrants and non‐immigrants during the study period, with an average yearly increase of 0.62% (95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.55, 0.70). Obesity prevalence was especially high in women from Pakistan, Chile, Somalia, Congo, Nigeria, Ghana, Sri Lanka, and India (20.3%–26.9%). Immigrant women from "Sub‐Saharan Africa" showed a strong association between longer residence length and higher obesity prevalence (≥11 years (23.1%) vs. <1 year (7.2%); adjusted PR = 2.40; 95% CI: 1.65–3.48), particularly in women from Kenya, Eritrea, and Congo. Conclusions: Prevalence of maternal pre‐pregnancy obesity increased in both immigrant and non‐immigrant women from 2016 to 2021. Several immigrant subgroups displayed a considerably elevated obesity prevalence, placing them at high risk for adverse obesity‐related pregnancy outcomes. Objective: The etonogestrel‐releasing implant is a long‐acting reversible contraception that is recommended by the Food and Drug Administration for 3 years and has been proven to be highly effective and convenient. Adverse effects including irregular bleeding patterns, weight gain, and acne are reported to be the main reasons for treatment discontinuation. The aim of this study is to learn the association between body mass index (BMI, calculated as weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters) and the incidence of side effects and adherence to treatment. Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study, conducted at a single university‐affiliated medical clinic, including all women who underwent etonogestrel‐releasing implant (Nexplanon®; New Jersey, USA, Organon USA Inc., Merck and Co) insertion between January 2019 and December 2021. Cases where abnormalities were reported during the insertion procedure or missing data were excluded from the study. Information on patients' demographic, medical history, obstetric and gynecological history, and follow‐up was collected from electronic medical files. The primary outcome was defined as the rate of implant removal in the different obesity classes. Data are presented as median and interquartile range. The study was approved by institutional review board. Results: The study population included 1318 women, of whom 466 (35%) requested early removal of the implant. Women's demographic and clinical characteristics were comparable between women who requested early removal and those with full‐length treatment. The median time for early removal was 12 (6–20) months from insertion. Irregular bleeding was the most frequent reason for early removal in both groups and was more than twice as prevalent in the early removal group (239 [51.29%] vs 193 [22%], P = 0.001). The early removal group had fewer obese women (BMI ≥30) compared with women who had full‐length treatment (163 [31.8%] vs 350 [68.2%], P = 0.03), with comparable rates of class 3 obesity women (BMI ≥40) (P = 0.68). Multi‐regression logistic analysis including age, BMI, parity and side effects found that the presence of side effects is the only independent predictor significantly associated with early implant removal (B = 1.74, P = 0.04). Conclusions: Continuation of etonogestrel‐releasing implant contraception treatment was associated with the presence of side effects that were more often reported in non‐obese women. BMI was not found to be a significant factor influencing adherence to treatment. Aim: To assess the impact of intermittent fasting, with or without probiotic supplementation, versus a calorie‐restricted diet on anthropometric measures, metabolic status and gonadal variables in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Methods: This is a randomized, placebo‐controlled, parallel‐arm clinical trial. The effects of the 14:10 early time‐restricted eating (eTRE) strategy alone or combined with probiotics, on obese women with PCOS, were investigated. Participants were divided into three groups: eTRE plus probiotics (n = 30), eTRE plus placebo (n = 30) and a control group following a standard three‐meal‐per‐day diet with daily calorie restriction (DCR) (n = 30). Over 8 weeks, various anthropometric, metabolic, menstrual and gonadal variables were assessed. Results: A total of 90 individuals were included in the study, with a mean body weight of 81.4 kg, and a mean age of 30 years. Mean (standard deviation) weight loss was not different between the groups at week 8 (TRE + probiotic: −2.2 [1.6] kg vs. TRE + placebo: −2.9 [2.7] kg vs. DCR: −2.5 [1.7] kg). Results revealed that, while all three regimes led to reductions in body weight, body mass index, vascular risk indicators, hirsutism and acne scores, there were no statistically significant differences between the eTRE groups and the control group in terms of weight loss, or improvements in metabolic, menstrual and gonadal variables (P >.05). Additionally, combining probiotics with eTRE did not benefit hormonal and cardiometabolic factors (P >.05). Conclusions: The eTRE alone or eTRE plus probiotics did not result in significantly greater weight loss or improvements in metabolic, menstrual and gonadal variables compared with the standard three‐meal DCR diet. Background: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a heterogenous endocrine condition and combined oral contraceptives (COCs) have been demonstrated to be the first-line treatment to women who do not intend to become pregnant. The combination of COCs and PCOS may or may not amplify the risks of cardiovascular events. Objective: To investigate whether surrogates for obesity may be influenced by the use of COCs containing different formulations in women with PCOS. Method: From January 2024 a literature search was conducted in Google Scholar and Pubmed databases using PCOS, COC, and obesity terms. Hand search of randomized clinical trials in the references of obtained manuscripts was also performed. After the exclusion of reviews and articles that did not fulfill eligibility criteria, compared the results obtained before and after the use of COCs in 13 randomized clinical trials (RCTs). Random-effects model was used to estimate the standardized mean differences (SMD) and standard errors (SE). Risk of bias was examined using the Rob2 tool. Result: Thirteen heterogeneous RCTs reported no difference in waist circumference with the use of different COC formulations (p = 0.714). On the contrary, body fat mass increased with the use of pill (p = 0.013). Waist triglyceride index and lipid accumulation product tended to be higher after the use of COCs (p = 0.073 and p = 0.064, respectively). Conclusion: Combined oral contraceptives with different formulations might increase fat mass accumulation in women with PCOS. Lipids may also be increased in PCOS users. Because some concerns about the quality and heterogeneity identified in various RCTs, caution should be taken before a definitive conclusion regarding the use of COCs and obesity. Aim Methods Results Conclusions To investigate the evolution of the incretin‐like peptide 26RFa in a prospective cohort of women living with obesity with or without type 2 diabetes (T2D) before and after sleeve gastrectomy (SG).In this study, a total of 61 women were divided into three groups: women living with severe obesity without T2D (WlwOB group), women living with severe obesity and T2D (WlwOB‐T2D group) and lean healthy volunteers (control group). Serum 26RFa concentrations were measured using a 26RFa enzyme‐linked immunosorbent assay developed specifically for this study during meal tests before SG, and 30 and 180 days after SG.At baseline, serum 26RFa levels were reduced in the WlwOB (P < .05) and WlwOB‐T2D (P < .01) groups compared with controls. In the WlwOB‐T2D group, fasting 26RFa levels were found to increase throughout the entire follow‐up period up to 6 months after the SG (P < .001). During the meal tests, serum 26RFa levels increased, especially in the WlwOB‐T2D group at baseline. At the end of the follow‐up, the profile of 26RFa concentrations obtained during the meal test in patients with severe obesity and T2D was similar to that of the controls.This prospective clinical study provides the first evidence that circulating 26RFa is altered mainly in WlwOB‐T2D, and that these defects are partially reversed after SG. Samples of placenta and adipose tissue were used for measuring mRNA expression for ACE and ACE2 through qRT-PCR. Inflammatory cell counting was performed through conventional microscopy.An increase in ACE expression and a decrease in ACE2 were observed in the placenta and adipose tissue of women with obesity. ACE2 levels showed a negative correlation with pre-pregnancy BMI and total cholesterol.Maternal obesity can modulate the expression of RAS components in the placenta and white adipose tissue, with ACE2 correlated with pre-pregnancy BMI and total cholesterol. The rapid epidemiological transition in Asian countries, resulting from the rising trend of urbanisation and lifestyle changes, is associated with an increasing risk of obesity in women of reproductive age. This is the first study to investigate the trends and population-attributable fraction (PAF) of obesity, and the interaction effects of education and wealth on obesity among reproductive-age women aged 15–49 years in ten Asian countries. This cross-sectional study examined the most recent (2000 to 2022) Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) data from ten Central and Southeast Asian countries. Multilevel multinomial logistic regression models were used to compute odds ratios (ORs). PAFs adjusted for communality were calculated using adjusted ORs and prevalence estimates for each risk factor. This study included a weighted sample of 743,494 reproductive-age women. All the countries showed an increasing trend for obesity and a decreasing trend for underweight, except for the Maldives. The highest PAFs of obesity were associated with women who were married (PAF = 22.2%; 95% CI 22.1, 22.4), aged 35–49 years (PAF = 16.4%; 95% CI 15.5, 17.1), resided in wealthy households (PAF = 14.5%; 95% CI 14.4, 14.5), watched television regularly (PAF = 12.5%; 95% CI 12.1, 12.8), and lived in urban areas (PAF = 7.8%; 95% CI 7.7, 8.0). The combined PAF showed that these five risk factors were associated with 73.3% (95% CI 71.8, 74.9) of obesity among reproductive-age women. Interaction analysis between women's education and household wealth revealed that having a secondary or higher level of education and residing in a wealthier household was associated with a lower risk of obesity (OR = 0.71, 95% CI 0.66, 0.76). The findings of this study suggest that, in order to address the rising rate of obesity among women in Asian countries, education and lifestyle modifications in urban areas should be a priority. Background: Numerous studies have examined associations between overweight and obesity and risk of low back pain (LBP), but the exact magnitude of these associations is not yet clear. The purpose of this work was to assess such sex-specific associations in a community-based setting in Norway, taking into account potential relationships with other risk factors. Methods: A cohort study was conducted combining data from two waves of the Trøndelag Health Study, HUNT3 (2006–2008) and HUNT4 (2017–2019). Separate analyses were performed of risk of chronic LBP in HUNT4 among 14,775 individuals without chronic LBP in HUNT3, and of recurrence or persistence in HUNT4 among 5034 individuals with chronic LBP in HUNT3. Relative risks were estimated in generalised linear models for overweight and obesity compared to normal weight. Body size classification was based on values of BMI computed from measurements of height and weight. Chronic LBP was defined as LBP persisting at least 3 months during last year. Results: After adjustment for age, smoking, physical activity in leisure time and work activity, analysis of risk among women produced relative risks 1.11 (95% CI 1.00–1.23) for overweight, 1.36 (95% CI 1.20–1.54) for obesity class I and 1.68 (95% CI 1.42–2.00) for obesity classes II-III. Relative risks among men were 1.10 (95% CI 0.94–1.28) for overweight, 1.36 (95% CI 1.13–1.63) for obesity class I and 1.02 (95% CI 0.70–1.50) for obesity classes II-III, the last estimate being based on relatively few individuals. Analyses of recurrence or persistence indicated similar relationships but with smaller magnitude of relative risks and no drop in risk among obesity classes II-III in men. The change in BMI from HUNT3 to HUNT4 hardly differed between individuals with and without chronic LBP in HUNT3. Conclusions: Risk of chronic LBP increases with higher values of BMI in both sexes, although it is uncertain whether this applies to very obese men. Very obese women carry a particularly large risk. Probabilities of recurrence or persistence of chronic LBP among those already afflicted also increase with higher values of BMI. Background: According to epidemiological studies, unhealthy dietary patterns and lifestyle lead to rising obesity and cardiometabolic diseases in Iran. Hybrid techniques were used to identify a dietary pattern characterized by fiber, folic acid, and carotenoid intake due to their association with cardiometabolic risk factors such as anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, lipid profile, C-Reactive Protein (CRP), Plasminogen Activator Inhibitor (PAI), Homeostatic Model Assessment Index (HOMA Index), cardiometabolic index (CMI), and monocyte chemoattractant protein (MCP-1). So, the objective of the recent study is to compare the reduced-rank regression (RRR) and partial least–squares (PLS) approaches to principal component analysis (PCA) for estimating diet-cardiometabolic risk factor correlations in Iranian obese women. Methods: Data on dietary intake was gathered from 376 healthy overweight and obese females aged 18 to 65 years using a 147-item food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). In this cross-sectional study, participants were referred to health centers of Tehran. Dietary patterns were developed using PCA, PLS, and RRR, and their outputs were assessed to identify reasonable patterns connected to cardiometabolic risk factors. The response variables for PLS and RRR were fiber, folic acid, and carotenoid intake. Results: In this study, 3 dietary patterns were identified by the PCA method, 2 dietary patterns by the PLS method, and one dietary pattern by the RRR method. High adherence to the plant-based dietary pattern identified by all methods were associated with higher fat free mass index (FFMI) (P < 0.05). Women in the highest tertile of the plant-based dietary pattern identified by PLS had 0.06 mmol/L (95% CI: 0.007,0.66, P = 0.02), 0.36 mmHg (95% CI: 0.14,0.88, P = 0.02), and 0.46 mg/l (95% CI: 0.25,0.82, P < 0.001), lower FBS, DBP, and CRP respectively than women in the first tertile. Also, PLS and RRR-derived patterns explained greater variance in the outcome (PCA: 1.05%; PLS: 11.62%; RRR: 25.28%), while the PCA dietary patterns explained greater variance in the food groups (PCA: 22.81%; PLS: 14.54%; RRR: 1.59%). Conclusion: PLS was found to be more appropriate in determining dietary patterns associated with cardiometabolic-related risk factors. Nevertheless, the advantage of PLS over PCA and RRR must be confirmed in future longitudinal studies with extended follow-up in different settings, population groups, and response variables. Background: Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common condition characterized by urethral sphincter failure and urine leakage. Its prevalence in women is higher than in men, and estimates of crude prevalence rates vary widely due to factors such as research methodologies, study populations, and underreporting by patients. This variability hinders research and impacts patient diagnosis, treatment, and quality of life. The complex etiology of SUI is not fully understood, and previous studies have primarily focused on non-invasive indicators. While emerging observational research suggests a correlation between SUI in women and abnormalities in lipid and blood metabolism, the underlying biological mechanisms and causal relationships require further investigation. This study aims to explore the causalities between SUI in women and lipid and blood metabolism. Methods: Using bidirectional univariate Mendelian randomization (MR), we investigated the causal association between SUI liability in women (case/control = 5,924/399,509) from UK Biobank and lipid and glucose metabolism, indicated by total cholesterol (TC, N = 61,166), low-density lipoproteins (LDL, N = 58,381), high-density lipoproteins (HDL, N = 60,812), triglycerides (TG, N = 60,027), fasting glucose (FG, N = 19,745), and fasting insulin (FI, N = 38,238) from ENGAGE consortium. To account for potential confounding effects, multivariable MR (MVMR) analyses were performed, adjusting for body mass index (BMI) and separately among lipid and glucose metabolism. Results: We found that increased genetically proxied TC, LDL, and HDL levels were associated with an elevated risk of SUI in women (OR: 1.090-1.117, all P < 0.05), These associations were further supported by MVMR analyses with adjustment for BMI (OR: 1.087-1.114, all P < 0.05). Conversely, increased FG and FI were associated with reduced SUI reliability in women (OR: 0.731-0.815, all P < 0.05). When adjusting among lipid and glucose metabolism, only HDL and FI demonstrated causal effects. Reverse MR analyses provided no genetic evidence supporting the causal effect of SUI in women on lipid and blood metabolism (all P > 0.05). Conclusions: Our results reported that increased TC, LDL, and HDL are linked to higher SUI susceptibility in women, while higher FG and FI levels have a protective effect. In overweight/obese women with metabolic abnormalities, the positive associations between TC, LDL, and HDL levels and SUI indicate a higher risk. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Breastfeeding offers significant health benefits, but its practice and success can vary. While research on induced lactation in cisgender women has been documented, there is limited research on lactation induction in transgender women. Case presentation: A 50-year-old transgender woman undergoing hormone therapy and living with a pregnant partner sought to co-feed using induced lactation. After approval by the hospital ethics committee, a regimen of estradiol, progesterone, and domperidone was initiated, accompanied by nipple stimulation. Lactation was successfully induced and maintained, with milk composition analysis indicating high levels of protein and other key nutrients. This case, the seventh reported, highlights the complexity of lactation induction in transgender women, considering factors such as age, obesity, and insulin resistance. The nutrient profile of the milk suggests its suitability for infant feeding, despite some differences from typical human milk. Introduction: Obesity aligned with quadriceps muscle weakness contributes to the high incidence of knee osteoarthritis (KOA), which is prevalent in women. Although molecular signatures of KOA have been suggested, the association between biopsychosocial responses and the plasma metabolomic profile in overweight/obese women with KOA remains in its early stages of investigation. This study aims to associate the plasma metabolome with biopsychosocial parameters of overweight/obese women diagnosed with KOA. Methods: Twenty-eight overweight/obese women (Control-n = 14; KOA-n = 14) underwent two visits to the laboratory. Functional tests and questionnaires assessing biopsychosocial parameters were administered during the first visit. After 48 h, the participants returned to the laboratory for blood collection. Specific to the KOA condition, the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia (TSK), and Knee injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) were applied Results: Thirteen molecules were different between groups, and four correlated with KOA's biopsychosocial parameters. DG 22:4-2OH and gamma-Glutamylvaline were inversely associated with KOSS leisure and TSK score, respectively. LysoPE 18:0 and LysoPE 20:5 were positively associated with KOSS symptoms and TSK score, respectively. Discussion: While the correlations of LysoPE 18:0 and gamma-Glutamylvaline are supported by existing literature, this is not the case for DG 22:4-2OH and LysoPE 20:5. Background: In the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) randomized trial, dietary intervention significantly reduced breast cancer mortality, especially in women with more metabolic syndrome (MetS) components. Therefore, this study investigated the associations of MetS and obesity with postmenopausal breast cancer after long‐term follow‐up in the WHI clinical trials. Methods: A total of 68,132 postmenopausal women, without prior breast cancer and with normal mammogram, were entered into WHI randomized clinical trials; 63,330 women with an entry MetS score comprised the study population. At entry, body mass index (BMI) was determined; MetS score (0, 1–2, and 3–4) included the following: (1) high waist circumference (≥88 cm), (2) high blood pressure (systolic ≥130 mm Hg and/or diastolic ≥85 mm Hg, or hypertension history), (3) high‐cholesterol history, and (4) diabetes history. Study outcomes included breast cancer incidence, breast cancer mortality, deaths after breast cancer, and results by hormone receptor status. Results: After a >20‐year mortality follow‐up, a higher MetS score (3–4), adjusted for BMI, was significantly associated with more poor prognosis, estrogen receptor (ER)–positive, progesterone receptor (PR)–negative cancers (p =.03), 53% more deaths after breast cancer (p <.001), and 44% higher breast cancer mortality (p =.03). Obesity status, adjusted for MetS score, was significantly associated with more good prognosis, ER‐positive, PR‐positive cancers (p <.001), more total breast cancers (p <.001), and more deaths after breast cancer (p <.001), with higher breast cancer mortality only in women with severe obesity (BMI, ≥35 kg/m2; p <.001). Conclusions: MetS and obesity status have independent, but differential, adverse associations with breast cancer receptor subtypes and breast cancer mortality risk. Objective Methods Results Conclusion To evaluate the optimal timing for fetal weight estimation during the third trimester.This retrospective cohort study involved fetal weight estimations from both early (28+0–36+6 weeks) and late (37+0 weeks and beyond) third trimester. These estimations were converted to predicted birth weights using the gestation‐adjusted projection formula. Birth weight predictions were compared with actual birth weights, to identify the most effective timing for weight prediction.The study included 3549 cases, revealing mean percentage errors (MPE) of −3.69% for early sonographic assessments, −2.5% for late sonographic assessments, and −1.9% for late clinical assessments. A significant difference was found between early and late sonographic estimations (P < 0.001), whereas late sonographic and clinical assessments did not differ significantly (P = 0.771). Weight predictions for fetuses below the 10th and above the 90th centiles were less accurate than for those within the 10th–90th centiles (P < 0.001). In women with obesity, late clinical estimations were less precise (MPE of −5.85) compared with non‐obese women (MPE of −1.66, P < 0.001). For women with diabetes, early sonographic estimations were more accurate (MPE of −1.31) compared with non‐diabetic patients (MPE of −3.94, P < 0.001) though this difference did not persist later in pregnancy.Sonographic and clinical weight predictions in the late third trimester were more accurate than earlier third‐trimester sonographic assessments, hence continuous follow up and assessments closer to term are important. Depressive symptoms are highly prevalent and heterogeneous in women. Different brain structures might be associated with depressive symptoms and body composition in women with obesity/overweight and normal-/underweight, although the data is limited. The analysis included 265 women from Bialystok PLUS population study, untreated with antidepressive or antipsychotic medications. The subjects underwent brain magnetic resonance imaging and body composition analysis. Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) score was inversely associated with nucleus accumbens volume (β = −0.217, p = 0.008) in women with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, but with insula volume (β = −0.147, p = 0.027) in women with BMI < 25 kg/m2 after adjustment for age and estimated intracranial volume (eTIV). In women with BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2, nucleus accumbens volume was inversely associated with the percentage of visceral fat and BDI score (β = −0.236, p = 0.012, β = −0.192, p = 0.017) after adjustment for age and eTIV. In women with BMI < 25 kg/m2, insula volume was positively associated with total fat-free mass and negatively with the BDI score (β = 0.142, p = 0.030, β = −0.137, p = 0.037) after adjustment for age and eTIV. Aims: The impact of life-course different adiposity indices on diabetes mellitus (DM) is poorly understood. We aimed to do trajectory analysis with repeated measurements of adiposity indices in the development of DM among women across the lifespan. Methods: This study prospectively investigated the 1,681 population of Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study. At baseline, all individuals were free of diabetes. Trajectory analysis was used to identify homogeneous distinct clusters of adiposity indices trajectories and assign individuals to unique clusters. Results: Of the 1681 healthy women, 320 progressed to the DM. Three distinct body mass index (BMI) trajectories and 2 distinct trajectories of other adiposity indices (waist circumstance (WC), conicity index (C-index), and body roundness index (BRI)) were chosen as the best fitting of the latent class growth mixture model. In the adjusted model, total participants [HR (CI 95%): 2.83 (2.05, 3.91); p < 0.001], and menopause [1.35 (1.10, 2.11); p = 0.001] and reproductive-age women [2.93 (1.80, 4.78); p = 0.003] of the high BMI trajectory compared to the ones in the low trajectory of BMI were more likely to develop DM. The high BRI in menopause had a significantly higher risk of DM compared to the low trajectory. In menopause (1.80 (1.26, 2.58)) and reproductive-age women (4.32 (2.49, 7.47)) with high trajectory of C-index, the DM risk decreased after adjustment. Conclusions: The risk of DM was greater for high BMI, WC, C-index, and BRI trajectories than for lower trajectories. Background: Gestational weight gain (GWG) is a critical factor for maternal and fetal health. Objective: To identify maternal predictors of inadequate GWG according to the 2009 Institute of Medicine (IOM) recommendations and Intergrowth-21st standards. Methods: A prospective epidemiological cohort study conducted from 2017 to 2023 in southeastern Brazil assessed 1,557 women at three different stages of pregnancy (≤ 18, 20–26, and 30–36 weeks of gestation) and at delivery. Sociodemographic, obstetric, lifestyle, nutritional, and maternal morbidity characteristics were collected, along with biochemical parameters. Results: Among the participants, 38.7% had GWG above IOM recommendations, while 67.5% had GWG above the Intergrowth-21st standards. Multinomial logistic regression analysis showed that women with pre-pregnancy obesity and women with the highest body fat percentage had, respectively, a 95% (OR = 1.95; 95% CI: 1.08–3.51) and 1% (OR = 1.01; 95% CI: 1.01–1.05) higher chance of GWG above IOM recommendations. Pregnant women in the lowest tertile of height, smokers, number of previous pregnancies, and women living in crowded homes had, respectively, a 57% (OR = 0.57; 95% CI: 0.41–0.80), 36% (OR = 0.64; 95% CI: 0.37–0.86), 35% (OR = 0.65; 95% CI: 0.43–0.97), and 14% (OR = 0.86; 95% CI: 0.59–0.86) lower chance of GWG above IOM recommendations. Women with diabetes were 2.53 times more likely (OR = 2.53; 95% CI: 1.32–4.83) to have GWG below IOM recommendations. Using the Intergrowth-21st standards, women with the highest body fat percentage had a 12% (OR = 1.12; 95% CI: 1.02–1.24) higher chance of GWG above the 90th percentile. Pregnant women in the lowest tertile of height were 2.82 times more likely (OR = 2.82; 95% CI: 1.08–8.13) and women with the lowest hemoglobin concentrations had a 41% lower chance (OR = 0.59; 95% CI: 0.39–0.88) of having GWG below the 10th percentile. While both guidelines identified body fat percentage and pre-pregnancy obesity as significant predictors of excessive GWG, the Intergrowth-21st standards captured a higher percentage of women exceeding GWG limits. Conclusion: The findings underscore the importance of comparing two instruments for assessing the adequacy of GWG. The IOM and Intergrowth-21st standards provide complementary insights, which can help implement targeted interventions for specific groups of women based on their nutritional and socioeconomic status, lifestyle, and obstetric factors to prevent pregnancy-related complications. Background: Around 4% of women receive an endometrial cancer diagnosis before turning 40, mainly those without prior childbirth experience and a strong desire to preserve their ability to conceive. Consequently, for young patients diagnosed with atypical endometrial hyperplasia (AEH) or early endometrial carcinoma (EC), a fertility-preserving approach employing high-dose oral progesterone has been adopted. However, previous research has shown a notable relapse rate. Furthermore, the extended use of substantial oral progesterone doses may hinder ovarian function and raise the risk of weight gain, liver issues, blood clotting, and breast cancer. We previously assessed the clinical effectiveness and pregnancy outcomes of gonadotropin-releasing hormone agonist (GnRH-a) based re-treatment for women with EC and AEH who did not respond to oral progestin therapy but achieved favorable treatment results and reproductive outcomes. Methods: This study will be an open-label, two-armed, randomized, investigator-initiated multicenter trial evaluating the combination of GnRH-a with the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system or the combination of GnRH-a with an aromatase inhibitor (comprising a subcutaneous GnRH-a injection every 4 weeks and daily oral letrozole 2.5 mg). A total of 226 participants will be randomly allocated to one of the two treatment groups in a 1:1 ratio. The primary objective is to determine the effectiveness of GnRH-a-based re-treatment in achieving a complete response (CR) at 24 weeks for patients with AEH or EC. Secondary objectives include assessing the pregnancy rate 12 weeks after treatment, as well as post-treatment pregnancy outcomes and the rate of recurrence. Ethics and dissemination: The protocol received approval from the Institutional Review Board of Peking Union Medical College Hospital and from boards at five other institutions. The trial will adhere to the principles outlined in the World Medical Association's Declaration of Helsinki and follow Good Clinical Practice standards. The trial results will be disseminated through publication in a peer-reviewed journal. Conclusions: Prospective evidence supporting conservative treatment for EC and AEH is limited. There is a need for new approaches that can achieve higher CR rates with fewer side effects. The increasing prevalence of female fertility requires the identification of potentially modifiable factors and non-pharmacological treatments. There is strong evidence that healthy preconception dietary patterns of women of reproductive age have a beneficial effect on fertility. In accordance with the hypothesis, the aim of the study is to evaluate the influence of diet on overweight and obesity in infertile women as well as the correlation of serum lipid concentration by making a comparison between three observed groups with different body mass index (BMI). A total of 107 women who were treated for infertility were investigated. Diet and food pattern survey, BMI, and lipidogram determination from venous blood samples were carried out. The determination of lipidogram parameters was carried out by enzymatic colorimetric test with the COBAS INTEGRA 400 apparatus. From the total number of patients included in the study (107), infertile women with abnormal BMI accounted for 26.16%, while fertile women with normal BMI accounted for 73.83% (p<0.001). The total cholesterol value for groups with BMI>25 kg/m² was 6.78 mmol/L (p=0.031). High triglycerides with increased BMI were observed (2.27 mmol/L versus 2.68 mmol/L) (p=0.028). Low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol had higher concentrations in obese women (n=28), and high-density lipoproteincholesterol had lower concentrations in women with BMI>25 km² (p<0.05). Sarcopenia is a disease characterized by a decline in skeletal muscle mass, strength, and physical performance, leading to a loss of functional capacity. Appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASMM) is one of the most used measurements to detect skeletal muscle mass loss; nevertheless, its assessment is expensive. Under this context, indirect anthropometric measurements include calf circumference (CC) and appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (SMI). However, these measurements may not be very sensitive in older people with different body mass index (BMI). The aim of this study was to determine the influence of BMI on indirect measurements of ASMM in overweight and obese older people. This study included 57 participants aged 60 years and over from the city of Los Angeles, Chile, divided into two groups according to nutritional status, overweight (OW; n=33; Men=8; Women=25; age, 72 ± 6 years; BMI, 27.54 ± 1.54 kg⋅m-2) and obesity (OB; n=24; Men=5; Women=19; age, 72. ± 6 years; BMI, 33.70 ± 6.22 kg⋅m-2). The results showed that 36 % of the variations observed in CC measurements are explained by BMI (p<0.05). Conversely, the variations in SMI are not explained by BMI. In conclusion, BMI in older people can affect CC results, but not SMI. These results contribute to the decision-making process regarding the use of SMI as a better method for the indirect measurement of ASMM in overweight and/or obese older individuals. This study aims to compare the concentration of the hormone PNX-14 in obese women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with that in women without PCOS, and to investigate its relationship with certain sexual hormones. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted at Al-Salam Teaching Hospital in Mosul from July 1, 2022, to the end of September 2022. The study included 100 samples from women aged between 16 and 47 years, of whom 50 were obese and thin women diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome, and 50 were healthy women. Samples were collected from women during the early follicular phase (the second or fifth day of the menstrual cycle). The group of obese women was divided into three categories based on the degree of obesity (morbid obesity, class I obesity, class II obesity). Both the patient group and the control group were divided into four age categories: (>40), (31-40), (21-30), and (<20) years. Serum samples were separated and stored in sealed tubes, and we then measured the hormone concentrations (PNX-14, progesterone, luteinizing hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, testosterone). An increase was observed in the concentrations of both luteinizing hormone, estrogen, prolactin, and testosterone in the serum of women with polycystic ovary syndrome compared to the healthy women. (1) Background: We aimed to associate the degree of food processing with blood pressure levels in adult women. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out on 85 adult women. The participants were subdivided into three groups: normal weight (NW: 27.05%), overweight (OW: 34.1%) and obesity (OB: 38.8%). Their anthropometric parameters, food consumption and blood pressure (BP) were evaluated. The groups were compared using one-way ANOVA or the Kruskal–Wallis test, and correlations were established using Spearman's correlation, partial correlations (adjusted for age, medications and pathologies) and simple linear regression. Significance was set at p < 0.05. (3) Results: Women with obesity had higher systolic and diastolic blood pressure (SBP = NW: 106.5 ± 11.6; OW: 111.60 ± 11.8; OB: 123.63 ± 14.0; p < 0.001 and DBP = NW: 66.5 ± 9.9; OW: 70.2 ± 8.7; OB: 80.6 ± 11.0; p < 0.001) and a lower consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed food (MPF) (NW: 0.25 ± 0.1; OW: 0.27 ± 0.09; OB: 0.21 ± 0.07; p = 0.027). Moreover, we found an inverse association among the consumption of MPF and diastolic blood pressure that remained after adjustments for covariates (r: −0.27; p = 0.01), suggesting that lower consumption of MPF is related to higher levels of DBP. (4) Conclusions: Our data suggest that women with obesity seem to have a lower consumption of MPF. Introduction: This study investigates the impact of cryolipolysis on reducing localized fat and altering plasma lipid profiles in 30 overweight and obese women. Conducted at the Health Technology Laboratory of the Evangelical University of Goiás, this clinical research adhered to stringent ethical guidelines. Methods: Participants underwent three cryolipolysis sessions, with comprehensive assessments of body composition and plasma lipids performed pre- and post-intervention. Results: Significant findings include a reduction in abdominal fat mass by an average of 4.1 kg and a decrease in BMI by 0.7 points (p < 0.05). Notably, total cholesterol levels decreased by an average of 15.7 mg/dL, and LDL cholesterol saw a reduction of 10.2 mg/dL (p < 0.01), with no significant changes in HDL cholesterol or triglyceride levels. These results suggest that cryolipolysis, in conjunction with standardized dietary control, offers a non-invasive alternative to surgical fat reduction, potentially mitigating cardiovascular risks associated with obesity. Conclusions: The study confirms the efficacy of cryolipolysis in targeted fat reduction and underscores its role in improving key cardiovascular risk factors. Background: The pathophysiological mechanism underlying pregnancy complications is not entirely known. Although it is currently impossible to predict the occurrence of redox imbalance, it is possible to identify women with a high or medium risk of developing this disease prior to a negative outcome by non-invasive diagnostic methods. The Aim: This study aimed to examine the possible role of the parameter of oxidative stress (OS) measured in early pregnancy in the screening/treatment of obesity and its complications during pregnancy. Methods: This research was designed as a prospective observational cross-sectional clinical study which included 40 non-obese and 31 obese pregnant women between 11 and 13 g.w. who were managed in the Department of Obstetrics, University Clinical Center Kragujevac in Serbia. We collected anthropometric and clinical indicators, maternal and pregnancy factors, and measured prooxidative parameters from blood samples. Results: We observed significantly increased levels of the superoxide anion radical, hydrogen peroxide and the index of lipid peroxidation in the Obese group in comparison with the Non-Obese group and significantly decreased bioavailability of nitrites in the Obese group in comparison with the Non-Obese group. Conclusions: The determination of systemic parameters of OS in early pregnancy could be a good methodological approach in the screening/treatment of obesity during pregnancy and this approach should be followed for the screening of endothelial dysfunction in pregnancy which needs further monitoring and/or treatment. Obesity is advancing at an accelerated pace, and yet its treatment is still an emerging field. Although studies have demonstrated the role of the microbiota in the pathogenesis of obesity, this is the first study to show the effects of intermittent fasting (IF), combined or not with exercise, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on the gut microbiota composition in women with obesity. Our hypothesis is that IF combined with HIIT can promote the remodeling of the composition and function of the gut microbiota. Thirty-six women with obesity, aged between 18 and 40 yr, participated in the study. They were randomly divided into three groups: 1) IF associated with HIIT group [IF + exercise group (EX), n = 15]; 2) HIIT group (EX, n = 11); and 3) IF group (IF, n = 10). Interventions took place over 8 wk, and all assessments were performed preintervention and postintervention. The HIIT circuit was performed 3 times/wk, for 25 min/session. The IF protocol was a 5:2 (2 times/wk). Multiplex analysis of inflammatory cytokines, sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene, and gas chromatography to measure fecal concentrations of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were performed. This study was registered on ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT05237154). Exercise increased fecal acetate concentrations (P = 0.04), but no changes were observed in the composition and functional profile of the microbiota. The interventions did not change the composition of the microbiota, but exercise may play a modulatory role in the production of acetate. This investigation provides clinical insights into the use of IF and HIIT for women with obesity. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and idiopathic hirsutism (IH) are androgen excess disorders requiring the determination of classic androgen levels for diagnosis. 11-oxygenated androgens have high androgenic potential, yet their clinical value in those disorders is not clear. Additionally, the role of endocrine disruptors (EDs), particularly in IH, remains understudied. We analyzed 25 steroids and 18 EDs in plasma samples from women with IH, PCOS, and controls using LC-MS/MS. Cytokine levels and metabolic parameters were assessed. Comparisons included non-obese women with PCOS (n = 10), women with IH (n = 12) and controls (n = 20), and non-obese versus obese women with PCOS (n = 9). Higher levels of 11-oxygenated androgens were observed in women with PCOS compared to those with IH, but not controls. Conversely, 11-oxygenated androgen levels were lower in women with IH compared to controls. Cytokine levels did not differ between women with IH and controls. Bisphenol A (BPA) levels were higher in obese women with PCOS compared to non-obese women with PCOS. Bisphenol S occurrence was higher in women with PCOS (90%) compared to controls (65%) and IH (50%). Significant correlations were found between androgens (11-ketotestosterone, androstenedione, testosterone) and insulin and HOMA-IR, as well as between immunomodulatory 7-oxygenated metabolites of DHEA and nine interleukins. Our data confirms that PCOS is a multiendocrine gland disorder. Higher BPA levels in obese women might exacerbate metabolic abnormalities.
