Abstract

Subjective classification of galaxies can mislead us in the quest of the origin regarding formation and evolution of galaxies since this is necessarily limited to a few features. The human mind is not able to apprehend the complex correlations in a manyfold parameter space, and multivariate analyses are the best tools to understand the differences among various kinds of objects. In this series of papers, an objective classification of 362,923 galaxies from the Value Added Galaxy Catalogue (VAGC) is carried out with the help of two methods of multivariate analysis. First, Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is used to determine a set of derived independent components that are linear combinations of 47 observed features (viz. ionized lines, Lick indices, photometric and morphological properties, star formation rates etc.) of the galaxies. Subsequently, a K-means cluster analysis is applied on the nine independent components to obtain ten distinct and homogeneous groups. In this first paper, we describe the methods and the main results. It appears that the nine Independent Components represent a complete physical description of galaxies (velocity dispersion, ionisation, metallicity, surface brightness and structure). We find that our ten groups can be essentially placed into traditional and empirical classes (from colour-magnitude and emission-line diagnostic diagrams, early- vs late-types) despite the classical corresponding features (colour, line ratios and morphology) being not significantly correlated with the nine Independent Components. More detailed physical interpretation of the groups will be performed in subsequent papers., Comment: The first version of this paper was entitled "Multivariate Study of the Star Formation Rate in Galaxies: Bimodality Revisited" and submitted in June 2017. International audience; Investigating the formation and evolution of galaxies is becoming a complicated process with the increased availability of huge databases as a result of instrumental improvements. In this poster we present preliminary results on two statistical studies using multivariate partitioning and cladistic analyses to find homogeneous groups and their evolutionary relationships.

38. Women Empowerment Through Kanyashree Prakalpa: Views of the Students of Raipur Block in Bankura of West Bengal

Abstract

This current study aims at revealing the actual impact of Kanyashree one-time grant (KOTG) existing in the grass root level of Raipur block area in Bankura district of West Bengal. The researcher's effort is to observe the level of women empowerment in the current study area. The whole study has found that the grant directly provides a scope for the development of women in this study area. A positive effect of the grant in restricting child marriage and girls’ dropout from school seems clear. The findings of the study significantly detect changes in perception as the effect of KOTG for girls.

41. Evaluating Carcinoembryonic Antigen and Glucose Levels in Pancreatic Cyst Fluid for Mucinous Versus Non-mucinous Differentiation.

Abstract

Background: A more precise identification of mucinous cysts will lower the likelihood of needless pancreatic surgery. Pancreatic cyst fluid (PCF) contains glucose and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), which serve as biomarkers to differentiate mucinous from non-mucinous pancreatic cystic neoplasms (PCNs)., Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of combined CEA and glucose levels in PCF for distinguishing mucinous from non-mucinous PCNs preoperatively., Methods: After receiving approval from the Institutional Ethical Committee of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Patna, a cross-sectional validation research was carried out. All patients ≥18 years of age who had undergone pancreatic surgery or endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration (EUS-FNA) for a pancreatic cystic lesion and for whom PCF was acquired were eligible for inclusion. Patients were excluded if there was no PCF available, if they had been diagnosed with an extrapancreatic illness (such as ampullary adenoma), or if they could not be excluded due to pancreatic cancer generated from PCN. Diagnoses were pathologically confirmed. We performed measurements for CEA and glucose in PCF. CEA and glucose were measured using an Architect i2000SR analyzer (Abbott, Lake County, IL) and AU 5800 Beckman Coulter (Brea, CA), respectively. Diagnostic accuracy was evaluated by receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curves., Results: PCF was obtained from 100 patients, of whom 54 (54%) had mucinous PCN and 46 (46%) had non-mucinous PCN. When CEA (cut-off ≥ 151 ng/ml) and glucose levels (cut-off ≤ 50 mg/dL) were combined, the results showed 46% sensitivity and 92% specificity. However, when CEA (cut-off ≥ 17 ng/ml) or glucose testing (cut-off ≤ 50 mg/dL) was used separately, the results showed 82% sensitivity and 73% specificity., Conclusion: The combined CEA and glucose testing in PCF demonstrated high specificity and sensitivity for differentiating mucinous from non-mucinous PCNs, suggesting its potential utility in preoperative diagnosis., Competing Interests: Human subjects: Consent was obtained or waived by all participants in this study.
