Purpose This study aims to analyze the impact of technology-based corporation relocation on housing price indices during COVID-19 within the metropolitan areas of Austin, Texas and Seattle/Bellevue, Washington.The corporations under observation were Tesla and Amazon, respectively. The analysis intends to understand economic drivers behind the housing market and the radius of its effect while including fixed and random effects. Design/methodology/approach This study used a difference-in-difference (DID) method to evaluate changes in housing price index near and further away from Tesla’s and Amazon’s new corporate locations. The DID method allows for the capture of unique regional characteristics, as it requires a treatment and control group: housing price index and 5-mile and 10-mile search radii centered from the new corporate location. Findings The results indicated that corporate relocation announcements had a positive effect on housing price index post-pandemic. Specifically, the effect of Tesla’s relocation in Austin on the housing price index was not concentrated near the relocation site, but beyond the 5- and 10-mile radii. For Seattle/Bellevue, the effect of Amazon’s relocation announcement on housing price index was concentrated near the relocation site as well as beyond a 10-mile radius. Interestingly, these findings suggest housing markets incorporate speculation of prospective economic expansion linked with a corporate relocation. Originality/value Previous literature assessed COVID-19 housing market conditions and the economic effects of corporate relocation separately, whereas this study analyzed the housing price effects of corporate relocation during COVID-19. The DID method includes spatial and temporal analyses that allow for the impact of housing price to be observed across specified radii rather than a city-wide impact analysis.

Purpose This study aims to analyze the impact of COVID-19 on housing price within four major metropolitan areas in Texas: Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. The analysis intends to understand economic and mobility drivers behind the housing market under the inclusion of fixed and random effects. Design/methodology/approach This study used a linear mixed effects model to assess the socioeconomic and housing and transport-related factors contributing to median home prices in four major cities in Texas and to capture unobserved factors operating at spatial and temporal level during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings The regression results indicated that an increase in new COVID-19 cases resulted in an increase in housing price. Additionally, housing price had a significant and negative relationship with the following variables: business cycle index, mortgage rate, percent of single-family homes, population density and foot traffic. Interestingly, unemployment claims did not have a significant impact on housing price, contrary to previous COVID-19 housing market related literature. Originality/value Previous literature analyzed the housing market within the first phase of COVID-19, whereas this study analyzed the effects of the COVID-19 throughout the entirety of 2020. The mixed model includes spatial and temporal analyses as well as provides insight into how quantitative-based mobility behavior impacted housing price, rather than relying on qualitative indicators such as shutdown order implementation.

As a result of citrate synthesis by the “sol–gel” method, we obtained samples of the compounds of ternary oxides with lanthanum, tungsten, and alkaline earth elements with the general formula MeLa2WO7 (Me = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba). The structure of the samples obtained was studied by the X-ray diffraction, electron probe, and X-ray spectral microanalysis; the infrared and Raman spectra of the compounds were obtained. The results of indexing for SrLa2WO7 and BaLa2WO7 are in good agreement with the previously published crystallographic data. The heat capacity of the samples was measured by using of adiabatic calorimetry and their thermodynamic functions were calculated.

A sol–gel method was used to synthesize barium, lanthanum, and tungsten-based samples doped with praseodymium Ba(La1–xPrx)2WO7, where x = 0.005 ÷ 0.05. The morphological and elemental analyses of the samples were carried out by electron probe microanalysis. A full-profile refinement of the crystal structure of the compounds belonging to the monoclinic system with the space group P1121/b was carried out. Using the adiabatic calorimetry method, the heat capacity of the samples was measured and the thermodynamic functions in the range of 5–320 K were found. In the heat capacity of the samples below 15 K, anomalies were detected and the excessive and lattice heat capacities were determined.

Samples based on strontium, lanthanum and tungsten with the general formula of Sr(La1-xLnx)2WO7 doped with samarium and europium at 1 and 3 at.% were synthesized by the solid-phase method at temperatures up to 1200 °C. The crystal structure of the samples was confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. A full-profile refinement of the structure of compounds related to monoclinic syngony with the space group P1121/b was performed. The admixture phase is a compound of the Sr3Ln2W2O12 type with a trigonal system and space group R3-C. Based on the results of structure refinement, the ratio of the main compound and the admixture phase in the samples was determined to introduce corrections during measurements. Using adiabatic calorimetry we measured the heat capacity of the samples and found the thermodynamic functions of main compounds over the range of 5‒320 K. Anomalies were detected in the heat capacity of the samples below 15 K, and we calculated the excess and lattice heat capacity for these anomalies by means of linearization methods.

Green infrastructure designed to address urban drainage and water quality issues is often deployed without full knowledge of potential unintended social, ecological, and human health consequences. Though understood in their respective fields of study, these diverse impacts are seldom discussed together in a format understood by a broader audience. This paper takes a first step in addressing that gap by exploring tradeoffs associated with green infrastructure practices that manage urban stormwater including urban trees, stormwater ponds, filtration, infiltration, rain gardens, and green roofs. Each green infrastructure practice type performs best under specific conditions and when targeting specific goals, but regular inspections, maintenance, and monitoring are necessary for any green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) practice to succeed. We review how each of the above practices is intended to function and how they could malfunction in order to improve how green stormwater infrastructure is designed, constructed, monitored, and maintained. Our proposed decision-making framework, using both biophysical (biological and physical) science and social science, could lead to GSI projects that are effective, cost efficient, and just.

The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of Tm2Ti2O7 and Lu2Ti2O7 compounds over the range of 4.5–320 K has been researched by adiabatic calorimetry. Based on the experimental data, the basic thermodynamic functions of the compounds over the range of 5–320 K have been determined. Tm2Ti2O7 sample has revealed an additional component in the heat capacity associated with the presence of the Schottky anomaly. The temperature dependence behavior of the Debye characteristic temperature of Lu2Ti2O7 sample indicates the absence of anomalies in the heat capacity. Standard thermodynamic functions at 298.15 K are: for Tm2Ti2O7 – Cp,298.15 = 221.0 ± 1.2 J·mol−1·K−1, S298.15 = 261.3 ± 2.4 J·mol−1·K−1, ΔH0298.15 = 39.45 ± 0.29 kJ·mol−1; for Lu2Ti2O7 – Cp,298.15 = 206.9 ± 1.1 J·mol−1·K−1, S298.15 = 229.8 ± 2.2 J·mol−1·K−1, ΔH0298.15 = 35.70 ± 0.26 kJ·mol−1.

The heat capacity of natural chalcanthite (copper sulfate pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O) from the deposit Kosmurun has been measured by the method of low-temperature adiabatic calorimetry over the temperature range of (4.3–320) K. The identity of the mineral was proved by methods of XRD, EMPA, IR and Raman spectroscopy. The thermodynamic functions have been calculated based on the experimental data on the heat capacity. The lattice component of heat capacity below 20 K was extracted. The standard values of the heat capacity and entropy for natural chalcanthite are as follows: C°p,m = 288.0 ± 0.4 J·mol−1 K−1, S°m = 295.2 ± 0.8 J mol−1 K−1.

The temperature dependence of the heat capacity of pyrochlore-like compounds CaLa2MoO7 and MgLa2MoO7 has been investigated over the range of 4.4–320 K by adiabatic calorimetry. The main thermodynamic functions and fractal properties of the compounds over the range of 5–320 K have been determined based on the experimental data. We have revealed the heat capacity anomaly in the sample CaLa2MoO7 in the area below 10 K. Standard thermodynamic functions at T = 298.15 K are: for CaLa2MoO7 C p,m(298.15) = 222.1 ± 0.4 J mol−1K−1, S m(298.15) = 246.0 ± 0.8 J mol−1K−1, H m(298.15)−H m(0) = 39.20 ± 0.10 kJ mol−1; for MgLa2MoO7 C p,m(298.15) = 216.6 ± 0.3 J mol−1K−1, S m(298.15) = 231.1 ± 0.6 J mol−1K−1, H m(298.15) − H m(0) = 37.09 ± 0.08 kJ mol−1.

Nodal marginal zone lymphoma (NMZL) is a rare non-Hodgkin lymphoma that arises from mature B-cells. We delineate outcomes, prognostic factors and treatment trends among a large cohort of patients with NMZL in the rituximab era. We identified 56 such patients treated at our institutions. The majority presented with advanced stage disease (78·6%). Over a median follow-up of 38·2 months, median progression-free survival (PFS) was 42·4 months and median overall survival (OS) was not reached. Kaplan-Meier estimates of OS at 120 months after diagnosis was 71·9%. High-risk follicular lymphoma international prognostic index (FLIPI) was associated with inferior PFS. Age >60 years and elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) were associated with inferior OS. Transformation to diffuse large B-cell lymphoma occurred in 7 patients, 6 of who presented with advanced disease. OS was comparable to our previously reported extranodal MZL cohort. FLIPI score predicted for inferior PFS and OS when both cohorts were analysed together (n = 267). In summary, outcomes in NMZL are favourable with a large majority of patients surviving at 120 months. High risk FLIPI, age >60 years, and elevated serum LDH were associated with inferior outcomes.

Extranodal marginal zone lymphoma (EMZL) is a B-cell lymphoma arising from mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). The disease characteristics, clinical course and treatment vary considerably based on site of involvement. Because long-term outcome data for EMZL are limited, we sought to describe the clinical details of a large number of patients with EMZL evaluated at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center over a 12-year period to identify prognostic markers including the impact of site of involvement. We identified 211 cases of EMZL involving the stomach (30%), ocular adnexa (19%), lungs (16%) and intestines (9%). Initial treatment included antibiotics (18%), radiation (21%), rituximab (20%), chemotherapy (3%), rituximab + chemotherapy (7%), surgery (17%) or observation (8%). After a median follow-up of 44·3 months (range 2·2-214·9), median progression-free survival (PFS) was 68·2 months (95% confidence interval [CI] 54·5-111·3) and median overall survival (OS) has not been reached. Age >60 years, elevated lactate dehydrogenase level (LDH), ≥4 lymph node groups involvement, and high follicular lymphoma international prognostic index (FLIPI) were associated with inferior PFS/OS. In summary, patients with EMZL have excellent prognosis with median OS in excess of 10 years. Age, elevated LDH, advanced disease, and high FLIPI score are associated with worse outcomes.
