Abstract

The digital competence is one of the key competences needed for an active and fulfilling life. In the Bulgarian secondary schools, there are subjects dedicated to the development of digital competences: Computer modeling and information technologies (CMIT) in low secondary school, informatics and information technologies (IT) in upper secondary school. Partially, the process interweaves mathematics education, too. The focus of the study is to identify good practices for effective development of the digital competences of students in the context of Bulgarian formal education. An additional goal is to identify good practices in the professional development of teachers so that they can successfully develop the digital competences of their students. A systematic literature review is presented to achieve the objectives of the study. The identified teaching methods are classified according to the target groups and the digital competences they contribute to the development of. Finally, methods are outlined that should underpin the training of teachers so that they successfully develop digital competences of their students. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Universities need to increasingly adapt their educational methods in order to prepare the new generation of experts with additional skills for the future of work. Especially in the field of ICT, besides proficiency in theoretical and subject-related ICT knowledge and practical programming skills, young graduates have to demonstrate mastery in different transversal and soft skills. Taking into account that the ICT sector is one of the most knowledge-intensive, export-oriented and globally recognized sectors in Bulgaria, the quality of the ICT training is substantially important for its future competitiveness and growth. Stepping on a theoretical framework for 21st century skills, the present research aims to outline what are the key 21st century skills of the young graduates, as evaluated by ICT employers and University lecturers. By presenting the outcomes of ten in-depth, semi-structured interviews with company owners, business leaders, HR managers, and academics, the paper outlines the main trends and rankings of the soft skills for ICT graduates, without taking in consideration the specific professional competences or subject-related knowledge. The first part introduces the context, the methodology and the scope of the research. The outcomes of the interviews are presented both as quantitative figures and as specific comments of the participants, highlighting different practical aspects. Finally, the current analysis provides fruitful insights and recommendations about the new types of methods for training relevant for the ICT sector 21st century skills.

Abstract

The article precents a review of the normative framework in Bulgaria related to the development of STEM teachers' competences. It studies explicitly defined requirements: pedagogical, academic, administrative and communicative competences, as well as implicitly defined ones, integrated in National Educational Standards and students' curricula: research, team work, ICT, work on a project, management of inquiry-based learning, etc. The authors identify dimensions and aspects of STEM teachers' competences, set out the major issues for consideration in providing teachers' training, and formulate six Key messages to providers of STEM teachers' trainings and policy makers, related to forms, content, approaches and responsibilities of institutions. The goal of the research is for the results to be used in European computer-assisted blended learning teacher trainings. Abstract

The European energy market liberalization strategy aims to assign a new role to consumers and end-users' communities so that they can become active participants on the energy market. In this paper we present the project SOCIALENERGY, EU-funded under the H2020 program. This project aims to promote the EU energy market transformation policy and to deliver supporting instruments. By developing innovative ICT-based tools, the project consortium will empower the EU energy consumers to become more energy efficient and competent. Apart from presenting the advanced features of SOCIALENERGY multi-modular platform, we will highlight the importance of the novel competence-based education (CBE) framework to support educational activities and to promote creation of social communities in the energy efficiency domain.
