Patients with single ventricle heart defects requires a series of staged open-heart procedures, termed Fontan palliation. However, while lifesaving, these operations are associated with significant morbidity and early mortality. The attendant complications are thought to arise in response to the abnormal hemodynamics induced by Fontan palliation, although the pathophysiology underlying these physicochemical changes in cardiovascular and other organs remain unknown. Here, we investigated the microRNA (miRNA) content in serum and serum-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) by sequencing small RNAs from a physiologically relevant sheep model of the Fontan operation. The differential expression analysis identified the enriched miRNA clusters in (1) serum vs. serum-derived EVs and (2) pre-Fontan EVs vs. post-Fontan EVs. Metascape analysis showed that the overexpressed subset of EV miRNAs by Fontan procedure target liver-specific cells, underscoring a potentially important pathway involved in the liver dysfunction that occurs as a consequence of Fontan palliation. We also found that post-Fontan EV miRNAs were associated with senescence and cell death, whereas pre-Fontan EV miRNAs were associated with stem cell maintenance and epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition. This study shows great potential to identify novel circulating EV biomarkers from Fontan sheep serum that may be used for the diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics for patients that have undergone Fontan palliation.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a leading cause of respiratory distress and hospitalization in the paediatric population. Low airway surface pH impairs antimicrobial host defence and worsens airway inflammation. Inhaled Optate safely raises airway surface pH in humans and raises intracellular pH in primary human airway epithelial cells (HAECs)in vitro. We aimed to determine if raising intracellular pH with Optate would decrease infection and replication of RSV in primary HAECs.We cultured HAECs from healthy subjects in both air-liquid interface (ALI) and submerged conditions. We infected HAECs with green fluorescent protein-labelled RSV (GFP-RSV; MOI 1) and treated them with Optate or phosphate buffered saline control. We collected supernatant after a four-hour incubation and then every 24 h. We used fluorescence intensity, fluorescent particle counts, plaque assays, western blots, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) to quantitate infection.In submerged culture, fluorescence intensity decreased in Optate-treated cells (48H p=0.0174, 72H p=viawestern blot and ELISA (pviaELISA (p=0.001). Additionally, RSV infection decreased as Optate concentration increased in a dose-dependent manner (pIn conclusion, Optate inhibits RSV infection in primary HAECs in a dose-dependent manner. These findings suggest Optate may have potential as an inhaled therapeutic for patients with RSV.

This review aims to survey the current state of mechanotransduction in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) and endothelial cells (ECs), including their sensing of mechanical stimuli and transduction of mechanical signals that result in the acute functional modulation and longer-term transcriptomic and epigenetic regulation of blood vessels. The mechanosensors discussed include ion channels, plasma membrane-associated structures and receptors, and junction proteins. The mechanosignaling pathways presented include the cytoskeleton, integrins, extracellular matrix, and intracellular signaling molecules. These are followed by discussions on mechanical regulation of transcriptome and epigenetics, relevance of mechanotransduction to health and disease, and interactions between VSMCs and ECs. Throughout this review, we offer suggestions for specific topics that require further understanding. In the closing section on conclusions and perspectives, we summarize what is known and point out the need to treat the vasculature as a system, including not only VSMCs and ECs but also the extracellular matrix and other types of cells such as resident macrophages and pericytes, so that we can fully understand the physiology and pathophysiology of the blood vessel as a whole, thus enhancing the comprehension, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of vascular diseases.

Bromazolam is a designer benzodiazepine that was first detected in British Columbia in January 2021. Postmortem cases were analyzed using a comprehensive blood drug screening procedure by liquid chromatography–high-resolution mass spectrometry before being retrospectively analyzed using an in-house novel psychoactive substances data processing method. Bromazolam was detected in 41 postmortem cases in 2021 and quantitatively confirmed by standard addition, using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry. The mean bromazolam concentration observed was 11.4 ± 53.7 ng/mL (median concentration: 1.6 ng/mL), with a range from 0.5 to 319.3 ng/mL and the majority of cases co-occurring with fentanyl. These low concentrations may be indicative of a presumed enhancement of opioid effects, rather than being used as a stand-alone drug. Bromazolam was always detected with opioids (fentanyl and carfentanil), stimulants (methamphetamine) and/or other benzodiazepines (etizolam and flualprazolam). To our knowledge, this is the first report to provide concentrations of bromazolam in postmortem blood samples in Canada.

KsubATP/subchannels function as negative regulators of active lymphatic pumping and lymph transport. This review summarizes and critiques the evidence for the expression of specific KsubATP/subchannel subunits in lymphatic smooth muscle and endothelium, the roles that they play in normal lymphatic function, and their possible involvement in multiple diseases, including metabolic syndrome, lymphedema, and Cantú syndrome. For each of these topics, suggestions are made for directions for future research.

Congenital heart defects are the leading cause of right heart failure in pediatric patients. Implantation of c-kitsup+/supcardiac-derived progenitor cells (CPCs) is being clinically evaluated to treat the failing right ventricle (RV), but faces limitations due to reduced transplant cell survival, low engraftment rates, and low retention. These limitations have been exacerbated due to the nature of cell delivery (narrow needles) and the non-optimal recipient microenvironment (reactive oxygen species (ROS)). Extracellular matrix (ECM) hydrogels derived from porcine left ventricular (LV) myocardium have emerged as a potential therapy to treat the ischemic LV and have shown promise as a vehicle to deliver cells to injured myocardium. However, no studies have evaluated the combination of an injectable biomaterial, such as an ECM hydrogel, in combination with cell therapy for treating RV failure. In this study we characterized LV and RV myocardial matrix (MM) hydrogels and performed in vitro evaluations of their potential to enhance CPC delivery, including resistance to forces experienced during injection and exposure to ROS, as well as their potential to enhance angiogenic paracrine signaling. While physical properties of the two hydrogels are similar, the decellularized LV and RV have distinct protein signatures. Both materials were equally effective in protecting CPCs against needle forces and ROS. CPCs encapsulated in either the LV MM or RV MM exhibited similar enhanced potential for angiogenic paracrine signaling when compared to CPCs in collagen. The RV MM without cells, however, likewise improved tube formation, suggesting it should also be evaluated as a potential standalone treatment.

Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are byproducts from metabolic pathways that can be detected in exhaled breath and have been reported as biomarkers for different diseases. The gold standard for analysis is gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS), which can be coupled with various sampling methods. The current study aims to develop and compare different methods for sampling and preconcentrating VOCs using solid-phase microextraction (SPME). An in-house sampling method, direct-breath SPME (DB–SPME), was developed to directly extract VOCs from breath using a SPME fiber. The method was optimized by exploring different SPME types, the overall exhalation volume, and breath fractionation. DB–SPME was quantitatively compared to two alternative methods involving the collection of breath in a Tedlar bag. In one method, VOCs were directly extracted from the Tedlar bag (Tedlar–SPME) and in the other, the VOCs were cryothermally transferred from the Tedlar bag to a headspace vial (cryotransfer). The methods were verified and quantitatively compared using breath samples (n = 15 for each method respectively) analyzed by GC–MS quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF) for compounds including but not limited to acetone, isoprene, toluene, limonene, and pinene. The cryotransfer method was the most sensitive, demonstrating the strongest signal for the majority of the VOCs detected in the exhaled breath samples. However, VOCs with low molecular weights, including acetone and isoprene, were detected with the highest sensitivity using the Tedlar–SPME. On the other hand, the DB–SPME was less sensitive, although it was rapid and had the lowest background GC–MS signal. Overall, the three breath-sampling methods can detect a wide variety of VOCs in breath. The cryotransfer method may be optimal when collecting a large number of samples using Tedlar bags, as it allows the long-term storage of VOCs at low temperatures (−80 °C), while Tedlar–SPME may be more effective when targeting relatively small VOCs. The DB-SPME method may be the most efficient when more immediate analyses and results are required.

SUMMARYThe developing mammalian heart undergoes an important metabolic shift from glycolysis toward mitochondrial oxidation, such that oxidative phosphorylation defects may present with cardiac abnormalities. Here, we describe a new mechanistic link between mitochondria and cardiac morphogenesis, uncovered by studying mice with systemic loss of the mitochondrial citrate carrier SLC25A1.Slc25a1null embryos displayed impaired growth, cardiac malformations, and aberrant mitochondrial function. Importantly,Slc25a1haploinsufficient embryos, which are overtly indistinguishable from wild type, exhibited an increased frequency of these defects, suggestingSlc25a1dose-dependent effects. Supporting clinical relevance, we found a near-significant association between ultrarare human pathogenicSLC25A1variants and pediatric congenital heart disease. Mechanistically, SLC25A1 may link mitochondria to transcriptional regulation of metabolism through epigenetic control of PPARγ to promote metabolic remodeling in the developing heart. Collectively, this work positions SLC25A1 as a novel mitochondrial regulator of ventricular morphogenesis and cardiac metabolic maturation and suggests a role in congenital heart disease.

With the continued rise in global mean sea level, accurate operational predictions of tidal height and total water levels have become crucial for early warning of potential extreme events in the coastal region. Ocean tides play an important role in extreme sea level events, with high oceanic tides increasing the likelihood of coastal flooding. The Dutch Continental Shelf Model in Flexible Mesh (DCSM-FM) is developed at Deltares to operationally estimate the total water levels to help trigger early warning systems to combat these extreme events along the Dutch coastline. At the boundaries of this model, a tidal forcing is applied from global ocean tide models to better incorporate the ocean tidal height estimations within the model.In this study, a regional Empirical Ocean Tide model for the Northwest European Continental Sea (EOT-NECS) is developed with the aim to apply better tidal forcing along the boundary of the regional DCSM-FM. EOT-NECS is developed at DGFI-TUM by using thirty years of multi-mission along-track satellite altimetry to derive tidal constituents which are estimated both empirically and semi-empirically. Compared to the previous global iteration, EOT20, EOT-NECS showed a reduction in the root-square-sum error for the eight major tidal constituents of 0.525 cm compared to in-situ tide gauges.Water levels of DCSM-FM are forced from a number of sources. At the open model boundaries, a combination of water levels from multiple global tide models, an estimation of the surge levels through an Inverse Barometer Correction based on the local atmospheric pressure, and the forcing of the density driven mean sea surface height from a global ocean recirculation model is used. A part of the water level signal is generated within the model domain. This is based on tidal potential within the model domain, meteorological forcing and baroclinic processes. In the 2D depth-averaged version of the model, the contribution of the latter is forced through a static water level field from the 3D version of the model, representing the Mean Dynamic Topography.When applying constituents from EOT-NECS at the boundaries of DCSM-FM, an overall improvement of 0.42 cm was seen in the root-mean-square error of tidal height estimations made by DCSM-FM, with some regions exceeding a 1 cm improvement. The results demonstrate that there is a large importance in using the appropriate tide model(s) as boundary forcings and in this manuscript, the use of EOT-NECS has a clear positive impact on the total water level estimations made in the northwest European continental seas.

Ocean tide models are created for a variety of applications ranging from serving as an altimetry correction to being applied as numerical model boundary forcings. DGFI-TUM’s Empirical Ocean Tide (EOT) and NASA's Goddard Ocean Tide (GOT) models are derived based on sea-level anomalies (SLA) from multi-mission satellite altimetry. All SLA measurements are corrected for geophysical effects, which means that the estimations of tides are reliant on the accuracy of these respective correction models. Within these corrections, tidal signals or frequencies that align closely with those of tides may be present which have clear downstream implications on the derivation of ocean tides from along-track satellite altimetry. In this study, the two different ocean tide models have been used as they utilise different techniques for tidal estimations but both are dependent on the chosen altimetric corrections. In the global EOT20 model, altimetric corrections played an important role in improving the accuracy of the model in the coastal region. However, these coastal optimised corrections may be influencing the open ocean performance of the model. This has meant that further investigations should take place to describe the best set of altimetry corrections to optimise the accuracy of tide estimations made by the EOT model in all regions. Additionally, several versions of the GOT model have been developed to contrast the influences of the different corrections both for the open ocean and coastal regions. In this presentation, the impact of different geophysical corrections (e.g. ionospheric, internal tide and mesoscale) are presented with the aim to conclude on the optimal set-up of these corrections for empirical tide models. Results here are shown in different experiments that include assessing the impacts of ocean tide estimations on both along-track as well as modelled estimations.

All current smooth muscle cell (SMC) Cre mice similarly recombine floxed alleles in vascular and visceral SMCs. Here, we present an Itga8-CreER(T2) knock-in mouse and compare its activity with a Myh11-CreER(T2) mouse. Both Cre drivers demonstrate equivalent recombination in vascular SMCs. However, Myh11-CreER(T2) mice, but not Itga8-CreER(T2) mice, display high activity in visceral SMC-containing tissues such as intestine, show early tamoxifen-independent activity, and produce high levels of CreER(T2) protein. Whereas Myh11-CreER(T2)-mediated knockout of serum response factor (Srf) causes a lethal intestinal phenotype precluding analysis of the vasculature, loss of Srf with Itga8-CreER(T2) (Srf(Itga8)) yields viable mice with no evidence of intestinal pathology. Male and female Srf(Itga8) mice exhibit vascular contractile incompetence, and angiotensin II causes elevated blood pressure in wild type, but not Srf(Itga8), male mice. These findings establish the Itga8-CreER(T2) mouse as an alternative to existing SMC Cre mice for unfettered phenotyping of vascular SMCs following selective gene loss.

This study combines field observations, mineral and whole-rock geochemistry, phase equilibrium modeling, and U-Pb sensitive high-resolution ion microprobe (SHRIMP) zircon geochronology to investigate sillimanite-bearing felsic migmatites exposed on Ledge Mountain in the central Adirondack Highlands (New York, USA), part of an extensive belt of mid-crustal rocks comprising the hinterland of the Mesoproterozoic Grenville orogen. Phase equilibrium modeling suggests minimum peak metamorphic conditions of 960–1025 °C and 11–12.5 kbar during the Ottawan orogeny—significantly higher pressure-temperature conditions than previously determined—followed by a period of near-isothermal decompression, then isobaric cooling. Petrography reveals abundant melt-related microstructures, and pseudosection models show the presence of at least ~15%–30% melt during buoyancy-driven exhumation and decompression. New zircon data document late Ottawan (re)crystallization at ca. 1047 ± 5 to 1035 ± 2 Ma following ultrahigh-temperature (UHT) metamorphism and anatexis on the retrograde cooling path. Inherited zircon cores give a mean date of 1136 ± 5 Ma, which suggests derivation of these felsic granulites by partial melting of older igneous rocks. The ferroan, anhydrous character of the granulites is similar to that of the ca. 1050 Ma Lyon Mountain Granite and consistent with origin in a late- to post-Ottawan extensional environment. We present a model for development of a late Ottawan migmatitic gneiss dome in the central Adirondacks that exhumed deep crustal rocks including the Snowy Mountain and Oregon anorthosite massifs with UHT Ledge Mountain migmatites. Recognition of deep crustal meta-plutonic rocks recording UHT metamorphism in a migmatite gneiss dome has significant implications for crustal behavior in this formerly thickened orogen.

Lymphatic valves operate in a fluid-dynamically viscous environment that has little in common with that of cardiac valves, and accordingly have a different, axially lengthened, shape. A previously developed 3D fluid/structure interaction model of a lymphatic valve was extended to allow the simulation of stages of valve closure after the leaflets come together. This required that the numerical leaflet be prevented from passing into space occupied by the similar other leaflet. The resulting large deflections of the leaflet and lesser deflections of the rest of the valve were mapped as functions of the transvalvular pressure. In a second new development, the model was reconstructed to allow the vessel wall to have different material properties on either side of where the valve leaflet inserts into the wall. As part of this, a new pre-processing scheme was devised which allows easier construction of models with modified valve dimensions, and techniques for successfully interfacing the CAD software to the FE software are described. A two-fold change in wall properties either side of the leaflet made relatively little difference to valve operation apart from affecting the degree of sinus distension during valve closure. AimsHypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS) survival relies on surgical reconstruction of the right ventricle (RV) to provide systemic circulation. This substantially increases the RV load, wall stress, maladaptive remodelling, and dysfunction, which in turn increases the risk of death or transplantation.Methods and resultsWe conducted a phase 1 open-label multicentre trial to assess the safety and feasibility of Lomecel-B as an adjunct to second-stage HLHS surgical palliation. Lomecel-B, an investigational cell therapy consisting of allogeneic medicinal signalling cells (MSCs), was delivered via intramyocardial injections. The primary endpoint was safety, and measures of RV function for potential efficacy were obtained. Ten patients were treated. None experienced major adverse cardiac events. All were alive and transplant-free at 1-year post-treatment, and experienced growth comparable to healthy historical data. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) suggested improved tricuspid regurgitant fraction (TR RF) via qualitative rater assessment, and via significant quantitative improvements from baseline at 6 and 12 months post-treatment (P < 0.05). Global longitudinal strain (GLS) and RV ejection fraction (EF) showed no declines. To understand potential mechanisms of action, circulating exosomes from intramyocardially transplanted MSCs were examined. Computational modelling identified 54 MSC-specific exosome ribonucleic acids (RNAs) corresponding to changes in TR RF, including miR-215-3p, miR-374b-3p, and RNAs related to cell metabolism and MAPK signalling.ConclusionIntramyocardially delivered Lomecel-B appears safe in HLHS patients and may favourably affect RV performance. Circulating exosomes of transplanted MSC-specific provide novel insight into bioactivity. Conduct of a controlled phase trial is warranted and is underway.Trial registration number NCT03525418.

Satellite altimetry has been providing a continuous record of ocean measurements with numerous applications across the entire range of ocean sciences. A reference orbit has been used since 1992 with TOPEX/Poseidon, which was repeated in the Jason missions, and in the newly launched Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich (in November 2020) to continually monitor the trends of sea level rise and other properties of the sea surface. These multidecadal missions have evolved alongside major technological advances, whose measurements are unified into a single data record owing to continuous intercalibration and validation efforts. However, the new Sentinel-6 provides synthetic aperture radar (SAR) processing, which improves the along-track resolution of conventional altimeters from a few kilometres (e.g., for Jason-3) to about 300 m. This means a major leap in sampling towards higher frequencies of the ocean spectrum, which inevitably means reconciling the assumption of a uniform Brown surface between the footprints of the larger kilometre-scale conventional altimetry and those of the finer-scale SAR altimetry. To explore this issue, this study uses the vantage point of the Sentinel-6/Jason-3 tandem phase to compare simultaneous sea surface signatures of large-scale Internal Solitary Waves (ISWs) between SAR and conventional altimetry. These waves can modulate the sea surface into arrayed sections of increased and decreased roughness with horizontal scales up to 10 km, which inflict sharp transitions between increased and decreased backscatter in the radar altimeters. It is found that Sentinel-6 can provide more detailed structures of ISWs in standard level-2 products, when compared with those from the conventional Jason-3 (similarly to previous results reported from the SAR altimeter from Sentinel-3). However, a new and striking feature is found when comparing the radar backscatter between Sentinel-6 and Jason-3, which are in opposite phases in the ISWs. These intriguing results are discussed in light of the intrinsically different acquisition geometries of SAR and conventional altimeters as well as possible implications thereof.

Introduction: Rodent models of cardiovascular disease have uncovered various types of lymphatic vessel dysfunction that occur in association with atherosclerosis, type II diabetes and obesity. Previously, we presented in vivo evidence for impaired lymphatic drainage in apolipoprotein E null (ApoE−/−) mice fed a high fat diet (HFD). Whether this impairment relates to the dysfunction of collecting lymphatics remains an open question. The ApoE−/− mouse is a well-established model of cardiovascular disease, in which a diet rich in fat and cholesterol on an ApoE deficient background accelerates the development of hypercholesteremia, atherosclerotic plaques and inflammation of the skin and other tissues. Here, we investigated various aspects of lymphatic function using ex vivo tests of collecting lymphatic vessels from ApoE+/+ or ApoE−/− mice fed a HFD.Methods: Popliteal collectors were excised from either strain and studied under defined conditions in which we could quantify changes in lymphatic contractile strength, lymph pump output, secondary valve function, and collecting vessel permeability.Results: Our results show that all these aspects of lymphatic vessel function are altered in deleterious ways in this model of hypercholesterolemia.Discussion: These findings extend previous in vivo observations suggesting significant dysfunction of lymphatic endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells from collecting vessels in association with a HFD on an ApoE-deficient background. An implication of our study is that collecting vessel dysfunction in this context may negatively impact the removal of cholesterol by the lymphatic system from the skin and the arterial wall and thereby exacerbate the progression and/or severity of atherosclerosis and associated inflammation.

Early detection of lung infection is critical to clinical diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. Measuring volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in exhaled breath has shown promise as a rapid and accurate method of evaluating disease metabolism and phenotype. However, further investigations of the role and function of VOCs in bacterial-host-stress response is required and this can only be realised through representative in vitro models. In this study we sampled VOCs from the headspace of A549 cells at an air-liquid interface (ALI). We hypothesised VOC sampling from ALI cultures could be used to profile potential biomarkers of S. aureus lung infection. VOCs were collected using thin film microextraction (TFME) and were analysed by thermal desorption-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. After optimising ALI cultures, we observed seven VOCs changed between A549 and media control samples. After infecting cells with S. aureus, supervised principal component-discriminant function analysis revealed 22 VOCs were found to be significantly changed in infected cells compared to uninfected cells (p < 0.05), five of which were also found in parallel axenic S. aureus cultures. We have demonstrated VOCs that could be used to identify S. aureus in ALI cultures, supporting further investigation of VOC analysis as a highly sensitive and specific test for S. aureus lung infection.

Cantú Syndrome (CS) is an autosomal dominant disorder caused by gain-of-function (GoF) mutations in the Kir6.1 and SUR2 subunits of KATP channels. KATP overactivity results in a chronic reduction in arterial tone and hypotension, leading to other systemic cardiovascular complications. However, the underlying mechanism of lymphedema, developed by >50% of CS patients, is unknown. We investigated whether lymphatic contractile dysfunction occurs in mice expressing CS mutations in Kir6.1 (Kir6.1[V65M]) or SUR2 (SUR2[A478V], SUR2[R1154Q]). Pressure myograph tests of contractile function of popliteal lymphatic vessels over the physiological pressure range revealed significantly impaired contractile strength and reduced frequency of spontaneous contractions at all pressures in heterozygous Kir6.1[V65M] vessels, compared to control littermates. Contractile dysfunction of intact popliteal lymphatics in vivo was confirmed using near-infrared fluorescence microscopy. Homozygous SUR2[A478V] vessels exhibited profound contractile dysfunction ex vivo, but heterozygous SUR2[A478V] vessels showed essentially normal contractile function. However, further investigation of vessels from all three GoF mouse strains revealed significant disruption in contraction wave entrainment, decreased conduction speed and distance, multiple pacemaker sites, and reversing wave direction. Tests of 2-valve lymphatic vessels forced to pump against an adverse pressure gradient revealed that all CS-associated genotypes were essentially incapable of pumping under an imposed outflow load. Our results show that varying degrees of lymphatic contractile dysfunction occur in proportion to the degree of molecular GoF in Kir6.1 or SUR2. This is the first example of lymphatic contractile dysfunction caused by a smooth muscle ion channel mutation and potentially explains the susceptibility of CS patients to lymphedema.

The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS‐Cov‐2) resulting in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) is documented to have a negative psychosocial impact on patients. Home dialysis patients may be at risk of additional isolating factors affecting their mental health. The aim of this study is to describe levels of anxiety and quality of life during the COVID‐19 pandemic among home dialysis patients. This is a single‐centre survey of home dialysis patients in Toronto, Ontario. Surveys were sent to 98 home haemodialysis and 43 peritoneal dialysis patients. Validated instruments (Haemodialysis and Peritoneal Dialysis Treatment Satisfaction Questionnaire, Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7 Item [GAD7] Scale, Patient Health Questionnaire [PHQ‐9], Illness Intrusiveness Ratings Scale, Family APGAR Questionnaire and The Self Perceived Burden Scale) assessing well‐being were used. Forty of the 141 patients surveyed, participated in September 2020. The mean age was 53.1 ± 12.1 years, with 60% male, and 85% home haemodialysis, 80% of patients rated their satisfaction with dialysis at 8/10 or greater, 82% of respondents reported either “not at all” or “for several days” indicating frequency of anxiety and depressive symptoms, 79% said their illness minimally or moderately impacted their life, 76% of respondents were almost always satisfied with interactions with family members, 91% were never or sometimes worried about caregiver burden. Among our respondents, there was no indication of a negative psychosocial impact from the pandemic, despite the increased social isolation. Our data further supports the use of home dialysis as the optimal form of dialysis., SUMMARY AT A GLANCE This survey of home haemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis patients found no indication of a negative psychosocial impact from the COVID‐19 pandemic, despite the increased social isolation. Thus, patients who are able to practise dialysis at home and hence minimize infectious contacts do not experience high levels of psychosocial distress, adding to the paradigm of home dialysis as the optimal form of dialysis.

In 2019, a group of archivists participated in two conference sessions focused on impostor syndrome in the archives field. Though no comprehensive study on impostor syndrome has been undertaken in the archives profession, the authors listened to numerous stories of the phenomenon among audience members. This perspectives article considers the presence and impact of impostor syndrome in the archives field. The authors define the phenomenon, review literature on its influences in the information science profession, include stories of archives professionals working with impostor syndrome, and offer suggestions for working through impostor syndrome.
