The dump deactivation process leads to the emergence of degraded areas that present numerous challenges for their recovery. Especially with regard to improving soil conditions. This study aimed to characterize the environmental condition of a deactivated dump area, using the sensitivity of soil quality indicators. For this, in a dump deactivated in the county of Ouro Fino-MG, two study areas were established, which are: deactivated dump area and a border area considered control (pasture), for comparison purposes. For environmental condition analysis, chemical attributes (pH in water, Ca, Mg, P, K, MOS, SB, CTC, V%, m%, Zn, Fe, Mn, Cu, B) and heavy metals (Pb, As, Hg, Cu, Ni, Co, Cr, Ba e Cd), microbiological (microbial activity and biomass and metabolic quotient) and physical (wet aggregate stability (geometric mean diameter - DMG, weighted average diameter - DMP)) of soil quality. The chemical indicators SB, CTC, Mg, Zn, pH, Ca and K, physical DMP and microbiological like biomass and qCO2 were efficient in discriminating the study areas and can be recommended in the assessment of landfill site recovery processes. For the assessment of the environmental quality of the landfill area using these indicators, it is recommended to collect soil samples at a single depth of 0-10 cm. Differences of environmental quality related to the soil should be considered for proposing different methodologies for the recovery of deactivated dump areas, which demand specific recovery techniques.
