Presentation of the webinar 'Improving knowledge, skills and capacity building to ensure plant health in more sustainable agricultural systems' jointly organized by Plants for the Future ETP and Euphresco. A healthy, productive and resilient agriculture is a prerequisite for a prosperous and sustainable bioeconomy. Healthy plants can help towards creating socially fair communities globally by contributing to end hunger, reduce poverty, protect the environment and boost economic development. Plant protection products (PPPs) are products intended to keep plants healthy by protecting them and their lant products against harmful organisms. In the last decade, there has been an increasing drive towards new and innovative low-hazard PPPs providing nature-based solutions, such as biologicals and basic substances (e.g., vinegar, charcoal). This has further been promoted by the EU Green Deal’s Farm to Fork strategy to reduce the use of chemical and more hazardous PPPs by 2023 and promoting more sustainable agricultural systems. While much research, development and innovation is being conducted to develop environmentally friendly alternatives to hazardous PPPs, the EU approval process for marketing these new PPPs is marred by regulations that are not adapted to such products, as well as a lack of knowledge and expertise of some competent authorities that lack the knowledge, skills and capacity to keep up with the latest scientific achievements. This situation has resulted in long approval processes (5-8 years), thereby significantly delaying access of these PPPs for farmers. This webinar aims to demonstrate the use of basic substances and biological as sustainable PPPs for European agriculture, as well as highlight the need to develop and share knowledge and skills related to the development of these new PPPs, as well as the need for capacity building to improve the flow of safe innovation to the market. A near-infrared emitting fluorogenic dimer with environment-sensitive folding and exceptional brightness enables background-free and target-specific imaging of the naturally expressed oxytocin GPCR in living mice., Fluorescent probes are commonly used in studying G protein-coupled receptors in living cells; however their application to the whole animal receptor imaging is still challenging. To address this problem, we report the design and the synthesis of the first near-infrared emitting fluorogenic dimer with environment-sensitive folding. Due to the formation of non-fluorescent H-aggregates in an aqueous medium, the near-infrared fluorogenic dimer displays a strong turn-on response (up to 140-fold) in an apolar environment and exceptional brightness: 56% quantum yield and ≈444 000 M–1 cm–1 extinction coefficient. Grafted on a ligand of the oxytocin receptor, it allows the unprecedented background-free and target-specific imaging of the naturally expressed receptor in living mice.

e gros-thym (Plectranthus amboinicus) est une plante aromatique et médicinale très commune en Martinique et dans toute la Caraïbe. Ses principaux composés volatils sont le carvacrol, le p-cymène et le β-caryophyllène. De précédentes études ont montré que le gros-thym est une plante répulsive pour l'aleurode Bemisia tabaci, ravageur majeur des solanacées et cucurbitacées aux Antilles. L'objectif de cette étude est d'évaluer la toxicité de l'huile essentielle (HE) de gros-thym sur les aleurodes adultes. Les essais ont été menés en conditions de laboratoire avec deux méthodes différentes. Nous avons utilisé la fumigation, où les aleurodes inhalaient les composés volatils de l'HE pendant 24h dans un bocal en verre clos d'un volume de 1,7L. Nous avons aussi réalisé des tests de non choix, où les aleurodes étaient exposés pendant 24 à 48h, par contact et ingestion, à des folioles de tomate traitées avec des solutions aqueuses de HE. Par fumigation, nous avons observé 50% et 80% de mortalité des adultes exposés aux composés volatils avec des concentrations respectives de 0.8 et 1.2μL de HE/L d'air. Sur les folioles traitées avec une solution de HE à la concentration de 1%, nous avons observé une mortalité de 80% des adultes et une réduction significative des pontes par rapport au témoin. En conclusion, quelle que soit la méthode utilisée, l'HE de gros-thym a un effet biocide sur les aleurodes adultes. L'HE de gros-thym pourrait ainsi être une solution alternative aux pesticides de synthèse pour le contrôle de Bemisia tabaci. biocontrôle, tomate, extraits naturels, écologie chimique, composés organiques volatils, Lamiaceae.

"The real-time management of residues of plant protection products (PPP) is a general issue for food producers and/or exporters. Organic biopesticides are described and listed in Annex II of Regulation (EC) No 889/2008 but the organic regulation is subsidiary to the general PPP regulations. Authorized pesticides under European Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 (Reg. 1107/2009) are granted a maximum residue limit (MRL) defined by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). These maximum residue limits are managed by the European Commission and listed in EC Regulation No 396/2005. However, some Organic plant protection products (phytopharmaceutical products allowed in Organic Production) generate residues (i.e. spinosad, Azadiractin A) and therefore survey of these residues. A “Global residue index” was generated in our institute, taking in consideration 3 classes (LMR respectively in Annex IV; Annex V; Annex II and/or III) with corresponding attributed value (0; 1; 2) characterised by an average value (residue classes sum divided by sum of active substances). The evolution of this “Global residue index” (GRI) value was followed through years."

Description of the subject. The real-time management of residues of plant protection products is a general issue for food producers and/or exporters. Authorized pesticides under European Regulation (EC) No 1107/2009 (Reg. 1107/2009) are granted a maximum residue limit (MRL) defined by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). These maximum residue limits are managed by the European Commission and listed in EC Regulation No 396/2005. MRLs for newly approved substances are set for pesticide residues present in products or groups of products covered by Annex I with a default value of 0.01 mg·kg-1, unless they have been considered, elaborated upon on approval and affected in one of the six other Annexes (II to VII). Substances listed in Annex IV are favoured in the selection of substances to be used by producers as it is for substances with very low potential impacts (low-risk substances [Art. 22 of Reg. 1107/2009] which therefore require no MRL; basic substances [Art. 23 of Reg. 1107/2009]; and microorganisms). The number of substances affected by this lack of an MRL (without residues survey requirement) has been steadily increasing since the publication of the SANCO/11188/2013 Guideline. Many biocontrol agents are listed in Annex IV, including microbial insecticides (e.g. Bacillus thuringiensis, Cydia pomonella granulosis virus), semiochemicals used in traps (e.g. ammonium acetate, putrescine) and some natural substances (e.g. sulphur) as well as all the currently listed basic substances. Objectives. To show that plant protection may be achieved with less concern or control (auto + external) than with certain agrochemical pesticides, including those without maximum residue limits (MRL). Method. Analysis of EU Pesticide Database and EU Regulation (EU) No 540/2011.Results. All approved pesticide active substances with no MRL included in Annex IV of Regulation (EC) No 396/2005, listed by substance status type (active, low-risk or basic) and category (microorganism, semiochemical or natural). Conclusions. These results may be used to help achieve plant protection with much less risk of contaminations, while noting the necessity for controls, analytical issues, positive controls, as well as the possibility of downgrading and withdrawal of approval from the market., Intérêt majeur des substances actives en protection des cultures sans limite maximale de résidu (LMR)Description du sujet. La gestion quotidienne des résidus de produits phytosanitaires est un problème général pour les producteurs et/ou les exportateurs de denrées alimentaires. Les pesticides autorisés par le règlement phytosanitaire européen CE No 1107/2009 (RCE No 1107/2009) sont affectés d’une limite maximale de résidus (LMR) définies par l’Agence Européenne des produits chimiques (ECHA). Cette LMR est gérée par la Commission européenne et déclinée dans le Règlement (CE) No 396/2005. Les LMR des substances nouvellement approuvées sont fixées dans les produits ou groupes de produits visés à l’Annexe I avec une valeur par défaut de 0,01 mg·kg-1 (sauf si elles ont été considérées et calculées lors de l’approbation et affectées dans l’une des six autres Annexes [II à VII]). L’utilisation des substances contenues dans l’annexe IV est à privilégier par les producteurs : en effet, elle confère une absence de LMR pour des substances à très faibles impacts potentiels (substances à faibles risques [Art. 22 du RCE 1107/2009], substances de base [Art. 23 du RCE 1107/2009], micro-organismes). Le nombre de substances affectées par cette absence de LMR et donc l’absence de recherche de résidus, est en constante augmentation depuis la publication du Guideline SANCO/11188/2013. Les catégories et les substances correspondantes placées dans l’annexe IV sont présentées : de nombreux agents de biocontrôle comme les micro-organismes insecticides (Bacillus thuringiensis, virus de la granulose de Cydia pomonella), de nombreux médiateurs chimiques utilisés dans les pièges (acétate d’ammonium, putrescine) et certaines substances naturelles (soufre), ainsi que toutes les substances de base actuelles.Objectifs. Ces résultats peuvent être utilisés pour montrer que la protection des plantes peut être effectuée avec plus de prévention des contaminations, moins de crainte de résidus, de nécessité de contrôle, de besoin de contrôles et de problèmes analytiques, de contrôles positifs, de déclassement et de retrait du marché en utilisant certains types de pesticides, ceux sans LMR.Méthode. Une analyse de la base de données de pesticides de l\'UE et du Règlement (UE) No 540/2011.Résultats. Toutes les substances actives pesticides approuvées sans LMR (inclus dans l\'annexe IV du Règlement [CE] No 396/2005) listées par type de statut (active, faible risque ou de base) et catégorie (micro-organisme, médiateur chimique ou naturel).Conclusions. Ces résultats peuvent être utilisés pour la protection des plantes afin d\'éviter les contaminations, contrôles positifs, problèmes analytiques, les déclassements ou les retraits du marché.

Le projet BIOPIPER est un projet Casdar (Innovation et partenariat) qui s'est déroulé à La Réunion de 2015 à 2018 avec différents partenaires de la Recherche et du Développement. Sa finalité est de produire durablement des extraits naturels de deux Pipéracées (Peperomia borbonensis et Piper borbonense), en vue de leur utilisation dans le cadre de la Protection agroécologique des cultures. On distingue 3 objectifs généraux : (1) Mettre en synergie les compétences de partenaires aux mandats complémentaires sur l'utilisation de plantes endémiques comme outils de biocontrôle ; (2) Concevoir et mettre au point la production durable des deux plantes en vue de leur utilisation comme outils de biocontrôle ; (3) Diffuser et valoriser les résultats et produits obtenus. Le projet s'est articulé autour de 4 actions. L'action 1 a permis de concevoir, de mettre au point et d'optimiser la production des deux Pipéracées permettant d'assurer une production optimale de biomasse foliaire. L'action 2 a permis de produire et de caractériser sur le plan phytochimique les extraits de différents écotypes des plantes sauvages et cultivées. L'action 3 a mesuré l'efficacité biocide des extraits sur divers bioagresseurs (bactéries, arthropodes) de caractère générique et d'importance économique à La Réunion et à l'échelle nationale. Sur les Mouches des fruits, ravageurs redoutables à l'échelle mondiale, les DL 50 et DL 95 (doses létales de 50 % et 95 % de la population) ont été mesurées sur 5 espèces (Zeugodacus cucurbitae, Bactrocera zonata, Bactrocera dorsalis, Ceratitis quilicii et Neoceratitis cyanescens), avec des extraits à base d'huile essentielle. L'analyse des résultats des DL 50 montre des différences entre les plantes, les écotypes et les types d'extraits. Les tests de DL 50 avec les huiles essentielles ont été conduits sur d'autres ravageurs d'importance économique (Bemisia tabaci, individus issus d'élevage ; Frankliniella occidentalis, individus prélevés en culture de poivron sous serre), une drosophile (Drosophila melanogaster, individus issus d'élevage). L'huile essentielle de P. borbonense a également été testée sur différents ravageurs des légumes métropolitains (la Mouche du chou, Delia radicum, le méligèthe Meligethes aeneus et l'altise d'hiver, Psylliodes chrysocephala). Un effet biocide a été trouvé sur tous les insectes testés avec des variations importantes de sensibilité. Des tests olfactométriques ont également été réalisés et ont révélé que l'huile essentielle de P. borbonense n'est pas répulsive. Ce résultat est encourageant et permet d'envisager une application ciblée du produit toxique via la nourriture ou les sites de nutrition du ravageur (approche " attract & kill "). L'action 4 a initié le processus visant à constituer un dossier réglementaire en vue de l'utilisation commerciale de la production des plantes ou des extraits. Le projet BIOPIPER a permis la création d'un dispositif en partenariat opérationnel et original, permettant de screener, à des fins de recherches ou de prestations de service, l'activité biocide d'extraits de différentes plantes.

International audience; Autoradiography is a technique used to record the spatial distribution of a radiotracer into an ex-vivo tissue slice. Within the section, the radioactive molecules emit charged particles from specific binding sites. These particles pass through the tissue before being detected by a sensor. Autoradiography gives the distribution of a radioactive molecule with a spatial resolution of approximately one hundred microns. In this work, we investigated the feasibility of autoradiography with a CMOS-APS sensor using radioactive isotope 18 F. This sensor works in digital mode by collecting charges. It presents a linear response with isotope 18 F for activity between 1 kBq and 1 MBq. The detection efficiency is 44,0 ± 0,5% for this range of activity with a spatial resolution of 144 ± 3 µm by using the absorber edge method. The Mimosa-28 sensor performs autoradiography imaging with a rose leaf and a mouse brain section which has a thickness of 50 µm and an activity of 4 kBq in the slice.
