- Abstract
Two new Pluteus species, P. nigritus and P. fumidus, were described based on specimens collected in the Far East, the easternmost part of Russia. Pluteus nigritus is characterized by rather large basidiomata with dark-coloured blackish brown pileus and greyish brown bulbose stipe, pigmented lamellae edges, metuloid pleurocystidia, presence of clamps in pileipellis, and growing on conifer wood. Another species, P. fumidus, also growing on conifers, has medium-sized basidiomata with greyish brown pileus and silvery-white stipe with grey base, concolorous lamellae edges, metuloid pleurocystidia, and abundant clamp-connections in all tissues. The phylogenetic placements of the two newly described species within Pluteus were confirmed using DNA data (nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and translation-elongation factor 1-alpha (TEF1)). Detailed morphological descriptions, field photographs, and comparisons of two new species with other morphologically and phylogenetically closely related species are provided. Morphological characters and phylogenetic trees inferred from ITS and TEF1 of nc DNA sequences showed that both of our new species belong to the section Pluteus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Basidiomycota -- Identification and classification ,Microbiological research ,Biological sciences - Abstract
To date, Basidiodendron luteogriseum, the generic type of Basidiodendron (Auriculariales, Basidiomycota) has been treated as a synonym of B. eyrei. Our data show they are not conspecific. The identity of other members of the B. eyrei complex, i.e., B. deminutum and B. grandinioides, is clarified based on morphological and DNA data, and 10 new species are described from Eurasia, as well as from North and South America. Key words: heterobasidiomycetes, phylogeny, taxonomy. Phylogeny ,Biological sciences - Abstract
The genus Heterochaete (Auriculariales, Basidiomycota) is traditionally defined as comprising resupinate fUngal species with sterile spines (hyphal pegs) that are distributed on hymenial surface. Recent DNA-based studies have indicated that Heterochaete is polyphyletic, although the correct taxonomic positions of many species under this genus remains unresolved. In this study, we revised the taxonomic assignments of some representatives of Heterochaete s.l., with special emphasis on neotropical taxa. Based on our results, two new genera, three new species, and three new combinations are proposed. Adustochaete is a new genus comprising two newly described species collected from dry hardwood twigs in the Neotropics; these two species are Adustochaete rava (the genus type) from Brazil and Adustochaete interrupta from Mexico. To date, the second genus, Proterochaete, comprises a single species, Proterochaete adusta comb. nov., which is widely distributed in the temperate Northern hemisphere. In addition, one new species, Tremellochaete cerradensis sp. nov., is described and one new combination, Tremellochaete ciliata comb. nov., is proposed in Tremellochaete, both recorded in Brazil. A neotype is selected for Heterochaetella ochracea, and this species was moved to Eichleriella based on morphological evidence and DNA analyses. Key words: Agaricomycetes, Auriculariales, phylogeny, taxonomy. During the study period of 2011-2018, six species of phytophthoras and one species of pythium were identified at the dendrarium park of the Peter the Great Botanical Garden of the Komarov Botanical Institute RAS. During two vegetative seasons of 2017 and 2018, the strongest signs of drying out were registered in 91 species of arboreal plants (53 % - shrubs, 45 % - trees, and one species of lianas and subshrubs respectively), which belong to 73 species of 39 genera of 21 families. The age of the affected plants ranges from 14 to 200 years, 60 to 100-year-old plants dominate. Presence in soil and influence on plants of two species of phytophthoras were confirmed. These are Phytophthora сactorum (Lebert et Cohn) J. Schröt. and P. plurivora T. Jung et T. I. Burgess. The two species of phytophthoras were observed before, but under other tree species. Pythium ultimum Trow were found in soil under Tilia cordata, being an active root pathogen – here it was found for the first time. It is evident that woody plants show different resistance to pathogens.

Peter the Great Botanical Garden of the Komarov Boranical Institute has 148 larch samples (Larix Mill., Pinaceae) which represent 22 taxa. They are long-lived large trees, up to 200 years of age, representing the base for a forest stand of an arboretum and forming alleys in the oldest regular part of the Garden. The tallest trees reach 31,6 m (L. dahurica) and 113 cm in diameter (L. decidua and L. dahurica). Due to the warming in the St. Petersburg area, there is a noticeable drying found on the trees' crowns. Based on the results of an inventory in 2015, 43 trees can be assigned to the first category; the other 105 trees suffer from drying of shoots, twigs and branches. The degree of drying corresponds with the age of trees. One of the possible reasons of the deterioration in the conditions of larch trees at the arboretum of the Komarov Botanical Institute may be the influence of the Phytophthora species. Soil research samples show presence of Phytophthora syringae (Berk.) Kleb. in the risosphere of L. decidua. It is the first time, this species of Phytophthora has been discovered at the Peter the Great Botanical Garden.

Eight new species presented are Calostoma areolatum collected in Wuyishan National Park (China), Crinipellis bidens from Hubei Province (China), Lactifluus sainii from Himalayan India, Inocybe elata from Yunnan (China), Inocybe himalayensis from Pakistan. Specimens previously identified as Massalongia carnosa represent a new species, namely M. patagonica restricted to southern South America. Saprolegnia maragheica is a new oomycete species of fresh water in Maraghe (Iran). Uncispora wuzhishanensis is a new aquatic hyphomycete species. A type specimen of Raddetes turkestanicus was studied and based on this the new combination Conocybe turkestanica, is proposed. Argyranthemum frutescens is a new host for Alternaria alternata and Syzygium cumini for Phyllosticta capitalensis in India. Crepidotus ehrendorferi is confirmed for Hungary and Pluteus leucoborealis for Central Europe, and for the phytogeographical region of Carpaticum. Pseudopithomyces palmicola is shown to occur on grapevine and it is validated by adding a unique identifier. Terfezia fanfani is reported first from Algeria.

Background Fungi play crucial roles in ecosystems and are among the species-richest organism groups on Earth. However, knowledge on their occurrence lags behind the data for animals and plants. Recent analyses of fungal occurrence data from Western, Central and Northern Europe provided important insights into response of fungi to global warming. The consequences of the global changes for biodiversity on a larger geographical scale are not yet understood. Landscapes of Eastern Europe and particularly of eastern Ukraine, with their specific geological history, vegetation and climate, can add substantially new information about fungal diversity in Europe. New information We describe the dataset and provide a checklist of aphyllophoroid fungi (non-gilled macroscopic Basidiomycota) from eastern Ukraine sampled in 16 areas between 2007 and 2011. The dataset was managed on the PlutoF biodiversity workbench (http://dx.doi.org/10.15156/BIO/587471) and can also be accessed via Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF, parts of datasets https://doi.org/10.15468/kuspj6 and https://doi.org/10.15468/h7qtfd). This dataset includes 3418 occurences, namely 2727 specimens and 691 observations of fructifications belonging to 349 species of fungi. With these data, the digitised CWU herbarium (V. N. Karazin Kharkiv National University, Ukraine) doubled in size A most detailed description of the substrate's properties and habitat for each record is provided. The specimen records are supplemented by 26 nuclear ribosomal DNA ITS sequences and six 28S sequences. Additionally, 287 photographs depicting diagnostic macro- and microscopic features of fungal fruitbodies as well as studied habitats are linked to the dataset. Most of the specimens have at least one mention in literature and relevant references are displayed as associated with specimen data. In total, 16 publication references are linked to the dataset. The dataset sheds new light on the fungal diversity of Eastern Europe. It is expected to complement other public sources of fungal occurrence information on continental and global levels in addressing macroecological and biogeographical questions.

- Abstract
The taxonomy of the
Phaeotremella foliacea group is revised based on morphological, ecological, geographic and DNA data. The nameP. foliacea is retained for the gymnosperm-dwelling species associated withStereum sanguinolentum in Eurasia and North America.Tremella neofoliacea andCryptococcus skinneri are considered synonyms ofP. foliacea s. str. Three other species in the complex inhabit deciduous trees. Of them,Phaeotremella fimbriata , comb. nov., is associated withStereum rugosum ; this species possesses blackening basidiocarps and small basidiospores, and it occurs in Europe. Its close relative is the East AsianPhaeotremella eugeniae , sp. nov., inhabitingQuercus mongolica and having larger basidiospores. The third species,Phaeotremella frondosa , comb. nov., produces the largest basidiospores in the genus and is associated either withS. rugosum (mainly in North Europe) or with otherStereum species (temperate Eurasia and North America). Additionally,Tremella nigrescens is typified and placed in the synonyms ofP. frondosa , and two species,T. fuscosuccinea andT. roseotincta , are combined toPhaeotremella . As shown by morphological and molecular (ITS, nrLSU and
tef1 sequences) evidence, the current concept ofMyxarium nucleatum covers four species in the Nordic countries:M. cinnamomescens ,M. hyalinum ,M. nucleatum s.s. andM. populinum . These species are redescribed here, their nomenclature is discussed and all relevant names are typified.Exidia cartilaginea andE. villosa are typified and shown to be conspecific with the North American speciesE. candida . Based on morphological differences,E. cartilaginea is retained as a variety ofE. candida .Exidia subrepanda is treated as a synomym ofE. saccharina , andHeterochaete europaea as a synomym ofE. thuretiana . - Abstract
The characteristics of four stages of demutational succession of a valley Korean pine–broadleaf forest are provided according to the parameters most vividly capturing the structure of the plant community and influencing the renewal and mycorrhization of Korean pine (Pinus koraiensis) seedlings. It was found that Korean pine seedlings grow in a competitive environment on the fresh burned site; hence the mycorrhization occurs from specialized symbiotes that provide competitive advantages and adaptation to stress factors. Mycorrhiza forms the least successful in the 50–60-year-old larch–birch–spiraea association during the seral stages of succession. The 90–100-year-old birch–broadleaf association offers the most suitable soil and cenotic conditions for the development of Korean pine seedlings that can successfully generate mycorrhiza from both the spores present in the thick soil layer, and through mycelia of shared mycorrhizal networks of seral and primary (including Korean pine) tree species. A 230–250-year-old climax community comprises all patterns to ensure that pine seedlings encounter a fungal component; in this community the greatest abundance of species and a balanced composition of ectomycorrhizal fungi communities of Korean pine are observed.

Nomenclatural type definitions are one of the most important concepts in biological nomenclature. Being physical objects that can be re-studied by other researchers, types permanently link taxonomy (an artificial agreement to classify biological diversity) with nomenclature (an artificial agreement to name biological diversity). Two proposals to amend the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (ICN), allowing DNA sequences alone (of any region and extent) to serve as types of taxon names for voucherless fungi (mainly putative taxa from environmental DNA sequences), have been submitted to be voted on at the 11th International Mycological Congress (Puerto Rico, July 2018). We consider various genetic processes affecting the distribution of alleles among taxa and find that alleles may not consistently and uniquely represent the species within which they are contained. Should the proposals be accepted, the meaning of nomenclatural types would change in a fundamental way from physical objects as sources of data to the data themselves. Such changes are conducive to irreproducible science, the potential typification on artefactual data, and massive creation of names with low information content, ultimately causing nomenclatural instability and unnecessary work for future researchers that would stall future explorations of fungal diversity. We conclude that the acceptance of DNA sequences alone as types of names of taxa, under the terms used in the current proposals, is unnecessary and would not solve the problem of naming putative taxa known only from DNA sequences in a scientifically defensible way. As an alternative, we highlight the use of formulas for naming putative taxa (candidate taxa) that do not require any modification of the ICN.
