Recently, there has been a lot of innovation in the design and craft of decorative interior textiles. With the advent of advanced technologies and sustainability concerns all over the world, there has been phenomenal progress in the usage of functional applications in the field of interior textile design. These functional applications offer multiple solutions to impart in interior textiles that not only provide an aesthetic appeal in the indoor environment but also furnish the need for health and vector protection. Considering the present environmental conditions and prevalence of vector-borne diseases in the indoor environment in Pakistan, this review study was conducted to assess the user acceptance, and feasibility of manufacturing such products in the mainstream of Punjab textile industry. By employing the design thinking methodology, the study sorted out the technologically feasible and economically viable. Desirability, feasibility and viability. The home textile product that can function as a mosquito repellent in the indoor space after applying a vector protective finish can offer significant benefits to the users. The products may also cater to multiple functions along with their aesthetic appeal. Textile dye enriched effluents have been credited to be heavily polluted and highly hazardous to environment. Cleaning of textile wastewater from these dangerous pollutants is a deeply concerned issue of the industry. Various physico-chemical and biological techniques are being practiced to remediate these effluents. But all these strategies have limitations at any corner of their application. Floating treatment wetlands (FTWs) are acknowledged as economical treatment options for various kinds of wastewater. Their efficacy has been ascribed in many lab-scale and pilot-scale studies, however scarceness of published data lies in sense of application of this technique using free floating aquatic plants for treating major primary reactive blue dye enriched textile water. So, the present study attempted to evaluate the performance of this method using two free floating aquatic plants, "Eichhornia crassipes" and "Pistia stratiotes" to develop a lab scale FTWs system augmented with two pollutant degrading and plant growth promoting bacteria, "Bacillus cereus" and "Bacillus subtilis" after four retention times, 0, 24, 48 and 72 h. One control and eight FTW treatment reactors were established containing plants and bacteria separately or in combination. This system was applied to treat reactive blue dye enriched textile wastewater prepared synthetically. A remarkable reduction in pollutant indicating parameters, BOD, COD and colour concentration was observed for treatment reactor having Eichhornia crassipes and Bacillus cereus combination for 72 h retention time. All this stamped the authenticity of this plant-microbial enhanced FTWs technique to treat textile wastewater and opened an era of its on-site application. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Constructed wetlands (CWs) have emerged as cost-effective and sustainable treatment systems for the remediation of industrial wastewaters; nevertheless, their potential has mostly been evaluated in laboratory-scale studies. Likewise, endophytic bacteria can enhance plant growth and reduce phytotoxicity under polluted conditions, but their application with pilot-scale CWs has rarely been evaluated. The present study aims to evaluate on-site performance of endophyte-assisted pilot-scale horizontal flow constructed wetlands (HFCWs) for the remediation of effluent from a textile industry. The HFCWs were established by planting Leptochloa fusca in the presence of three endophytic bacterial strains with dye degrading, and plant growth promoting capabilities. We found that the system was able to remove a significant proportion of both organic and inorganic pollutants. Maximum reduction of pollutants was observed in endophyte-augmented HFCWs, where the COD and BOD reduced from 493 to 70 mg l −1 and 190 to 42 mg l −1 , respectively, within 48 h. Additionally, survival of endophytic bacteria in different components of the HFCWs was also recorded. Treated wastewater was found to be non-toxic and the inoculated bacteria showed persistence in the wastewater as well as rhizo- and endosphere of L. fusca . Accordingly, a positive impact on plant growth was observed in the presence of bacterial augmentation. The system performance was comparable to the vertical flow constructed wetlands (VFCWs) as high nutrients reduction was seen in the presence of this partnership. This pilot-scale study is a step forward toward the field-scale application of phytoremediation coupled with bacterial endophytes as a cost-effective means of on-site wastewater remediation. To the best of our knowledge, this is among the first pilot-scale studies on use of HFCWs for improvement in quality of textile industry effluent as most previous studies are limited either in the context of engineering or lack effective interplay of plant and bacteria. Herein, the hydrophobic and self-cleaning properties of three different fabric surfaces have been evaluated after applying titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanofinishes. The nanoparticles were prepared by sol-gel techniques and were characterized by using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods. The ultra-refined particles were applied over three different fabric substrates having similar weave of Z-twill (3/1). The yarns of 100% polyester, blend of viscose with mod-acrylic and high performance polyethylene containing 16 yarn count (Ne) and 31.496 and 15.748 ends/cm and picks/cm, respectively, were used for required fabric preparation. The different fabric structures were applied with self-cleaning finish of TiO2 nanoparticles prepared in our laboratory and the results were compared with commercially available finish Rucoguard AFR. The static contact angles, UV-protection factor, air permeability and hydrophobic activity of nanofinished fabric helped in evaluating their breathability and self-cleaning properties. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of elastane linear density, thread density, and weave float on the stretch, recovery, and compression properties of bi-stretch woven fabrics for compression garments. Fabric samples were produced using elastane core-spun cotton yarns both in the warp and weft. The elastane linear density, fabric thread density, and weave float size were used as input variables while fabric contraction, subgarment pressure, fabric stretch, and recovery were taken as response variables. Two different elastane linear densities, i.e. 44 and 78 dtex, two different thread densities, and three different weave designs, i.e. 1/1 plain, 2/2 z-twill, and 3/3 z-twill were used. The results of fabric samples were analyzed in Minitab statistical software. The coefficients of determinations (R-sq values) of the regression equations showed good prediction ability of the developed statistical models. The findings of the study may be helpful in deciding appropriate manufacturing specifications of bi-stretch fabrics to attain specific stretch, recovery, and compression properties.
