The author has previously in a social system theoretical perspective outlined a position for engaged scholarship in bridging the gulf between theorizing and practice. Partaking as "midwives" for shared semantics in a polycentric network was analyzed as one role for engaged scholars to assist. This paper, however, argues that for a shared semantic reservoir for "next era" leadership and management to form, one more layer of reflection is needed: how to manage "backwards" from the future. The paper also addresses geographic inclusion/exclusion, which seems to be reinforced as digitalization and abstract knowledge are gaining ground, even though bits and abstract knowledge should easily be detached from spatial limitations. Research programs targeting "grand challenges" and "grand solutions" is defined by megaprojects defined and financed by large foundations or other large-scale actors, and well-connected international research centers and research networks are needed to influence this agenda-setting. The paper argues that forming regional polycentric networks (including scientific research scholars) may to a greater extend bridge the global agendas with local and regional issues to not be excluded in a transition process. A group of prominent researchers recently introduced Computational Social Science (CSS) in a Nature article, highlighting its potential with a call for more institutional support. The companion composed by prevalent researchers sees no scientific limitations in CSS. However, this paper argues that despite CSS's popularity, it harbors scientific, methodological and philosophical shortcomings leading to a form of academic authoritarianism, highly consequential for Higher Education. It evaluates critically its impact on Management Science, Public Policy, and Social Development. While CSS appears promising, its current trajectory fails to deliver substantial innovation and leadership, misleading both leaders and policymakers. Indirect ecological effects—in which interactions of two species are modified by another species or abiotic factor—are generally considered equal to or greater in magnitude than direct effects. The ecological literature describing indirect effects suffers from redundancy and confusion regarding terminology and quantification, limiting its utility to regulators working to estimate indirect relative to direct effects in assessing environmental risks of development. To evaluate consideration for indirect ecological effects in regulatory practice, we reviewed 24 National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents for proposed US mining projects to compare the treatment of indirect effects in the regulatory versus ecological literature. A clear dichotomy between regulatory and academic definitions of indirect effects suggests that NEPA documents overlook scientifically defined ecological impacts of development. Consequently, for scientific inquiry to be useful to regulators and for regulation of development to comprehensively assess risks, multidisciplinary efforts are urgently needed to bridge the gap between ecological science and environmental management. Recently, Annadurai published an important paper in International journal of Management Science and Engineering Management for the optimal replenishment policy for inventory models of decaying items with shortages and salvage value. However, his solution procedure contained some questionable results. The purpose of this note is fourfold. First, we recap the inventory model proposed by Annadurai. Second, we provide our improvement. Third, we point out questionable results of Annadurai and then offer our revisions. This teaching case describes the organizational change process of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro Science Park (PTEC-UFRJ), an organization that plays a leading role in the innovation ecosystem of both the university and its surrounding state. The change process began in 2019, rooted on the leadership's view that the Park's economic sustainability depends on strategic redirection and transformation of employees' attitudes and behavior, along with the redesign of PTECUFRJ's internal processes. However, PTEC-UFRJ has the peculiarity of having its leadership appointed by the University Dean's Office. In this context, management initiatives directed to supporting the change process are fundamental to secure its achievements and ensure its continuity. The case describes the decisions and actions took by PTECUFRJ's executive director in order to guide the strategic change in the Park and the challenges faced. In view of the results and objectives already achieved, the most important point is to discuss PTEC-UFRJ's future perspectives, the role of leadership and organizational policies, and practices that guarantee the sustainability of the organizational change. Experiential learning can connect undergraduate students with research projects where they create and analyze data. Research Data Management (RDM) competencies are needed to ensure that research data are effectively organized, described, stored, and curated for future use. In recent years, undergraduates have been taught RDM in credit classes and workshops, but opportunities to learn RDM competencies are not widespread in undergraduate education. This study describes a one-credit asynchronous express RDM course that was developed and taught by an academic librarian as a 100-level undergraduate class between 2021 and 2023. Students applied RDM theory and best practices to marine science case study-based assignments to experience organizing and describing research data firsthand. The course culminated with students writing proposals to implement RDM practices at a research institution. Evaluation of the course is described from the librarian-instructor perspective and using enrollment, grade, and student course evaluation data. Teaching asynchronously at an express pace presented challenges in keeping some students engaged and progressing throughout the seven-week course, requiring proactive outreach and instructor attentiveness. While the asynchronous mode adds flexibility to student schedules, a reduced scope or slower pace is recommended for providing undergraduates a meaningful experiential introduction to data management. Recent spikes in interactions between humans and sharks in the New York Bight have sparked widespread reporting of possible causalities, many of which lack empirical support. Here we comment on the current state of knowledge regarding shark biology and management in New York waters emphasizing that the possible drivers of increased human–shark interactions are confounded by a lack of historical monitoring data. We outline several key research avenues that should be considered to ensure the safe and sustainable coexistence of humans, sharks, and their prey, in an era of accelerated environmental change. While most previous research focused only on the textual content of documents, advanced support for document management in digital libraries, for open science, requires handling all aspects of a document: from structure, to content, to context. These different but inter-related aspects cannot be handled separately and were traditionally ignored in digital libraries. We propose a graph-based unifying representation and handling model based on the definition of an ontology that integrates all the different perspectives and drives the document description in order to boost the effectiveness of document management. Similar to many freshwater ecosystems, the Laurentian Great Lakes of North America have undergone numerous anthropogenic stressors resulting in considerable loss of biodiversity and habitat. Among Great Lakes fishes, the coregonine sub-family has endured the most extensive declines, including extinction of several species (Coregonus johannae, C. alpenae, and C. kiyi orientalis) and at least 10 instances of local extirpations of other species (C. nigripinnis, C. reighardi, C. zenithicus, C. hoyi, and C. artedi) across all 5 lakes, much of which occurred prior to the 1960s owing to overfishing, interactions with non-indigenous species, and habitat loss. Despite these declines, no federal-, provincial-, or state-mandated actions were ever implemented to conserve coregonine diversity, potentially because so much of the coregonine declines occurred prior to the enactment of federal conservation legislation. Possible explanations for inaction since enactment of that legislation include insufficient data on biological vulnerability or threats, unresolved taxonomy, and limited support from the fishery management agencies and their stakeholders prior to the 2000s. In recent decades, however, several fishery management agencies have undertaken efforts to re-introduce coregonine diversity. These efforts helped lead to development of a science-based framework to restore coregonines that was universally endorsed by fishery managers representing eight U.S. states, four U.S. tribal organizations, and the province of ON, Canada, in May 2018. The basin-wide framework is based on principles of conservation biology and adaptive management. We describe details of its key steps, including planning, restoring, and evaluating, while also describing recent implementation efforts to develop methods, improve available resources, and enhance coordination across the basin. Although our paper describes a regional effort to restore native coregonines, our adaptive-management approach could be used by other multi-agency stakeholders seeking to conserve or restore native fishes. This research aims to reveal the main trends, gaps and paradigm shifts in crisis management. Data from research dealing with crisis/crisis management in the social sciences literature were examined in this context. The Web of Science database was used to collect research data. The data were analyzed using bibliometric analysis, a quantitative research method. The findings show that crisis management, crisis planning, crisis actions, strategic management and crisis management in public relations were the most intensively studied topics until 2018. But after 2018, research, tourism, Covid‐19 pandemic have shown a trend towards social media. In general, there is an increase in empirical research on crisis management. In this body of research, the United States of America has the greatest weight numerically, however, European countries are better positioned in terms of interest levels and international cooperation. The effective planning and control of healthcare systems are receiving growing research interest owing to their complexities and the importance of healthcare to society. Techniques in operations research and management science (ORMS) have successfully addressed the challenges associated with healthcare service delivery. Serious gaming and classroom games have proven to be an effective tool for teaching ORMS concepts to be applied to healthcare, since they illustrate complex ideas and theories practically in a realistic setting. This research is a systemised literature review of serious gaming in the ORMS domains. It aims to assess which ORMS games could be adapted to teach ORMS concepts applied to healthcare. The research also assesses whether these games align with experiential learning pedagogy. The research is useful to both academics and practitioners who aim to improve healthcare systems while simultaneously conveying ORMS concepts to a wide audience by means of serious gaming. Human activities and climate change threaten coldwater organisms in freshwater ecosystems by causing rivers and streams to warm, increasing the intensity and frequency of warm temperature events, and reducing thermal heterogeneity. Cold‐water refuges are discrete patches of relatively cool water that are used by coldwater organisms for thermal relief and short‐term survival. Globally, cohesive management approaches are needed that consider interlinked physical, biological, and social factors of cold‐water refuges. We review current understanding of cold‐water refuges, identify gaps between science and management, and evaluate policies aimed at protecting thermally sensitive species. Existing policies include designating cold‐water habitats, restricting fishing during warm periods, and implementing threshold temperature standards or guidelines. However, these policies are rare and uncoordinated across spatial scales and often do not consider input from Indigenous peoples. We propose that cold‐water refuges be managed as distinct operational landscape units, which provide a social and ecological context that is relevant at the watershed scale. These operational landscape units provide the foundation for an integrated framework that links science and management by (1) mapping and characterizing cold‐water refuges to prioritize management and conservation actions, (2) leveraging existing and new policies, (3) improving coordination across jurisdictions, and (4) implementing adaptive management practices across scales. Our findings show that while there are many opportunities for scientific advancement, the current state of the sciences is sufficient to inform policy and management. Our proposed framework provides a path forward for managing and protecting cold‐water refuges using existing and new policies to protect coldwater organisms in the face of global change. Considering Systems Thinking (ST) as a cognitive skill can create greater acceptability of and openness to the discipline from practitioners and researchers outside operations research and management science. Rather than associating ST with frameworks and methodologies, ST as a cognitive skill can help popularize and democratize the discipline. This paper highlights how the conceptual lens of Holistic Flexibility can help practitioners deploy ST as a cognitive skill without the application of any traditional systems methodology. Holistic Flexibility is defined as the dynamic interplay between a state of mind that has the ability to absorb systemic complexity and a state of practice that has the ability to embrace flexibility, both in intent and in form. Through two case-studies, discussions in this paper highlight how Holistic Flexibility can serve as a conceptual lens for systems practitioners. The case-studies demonstrate the importance of a practitioner's ability to seamlessly manage and work with multiple variables, stakeholders, and factors to deliver responsible outcomes with the aid of learning loops. The main contribution of this paper lies in the case-studies and analyses presented that provide use cases for Holistic Flexibility in ST, which will help address recent calls in the discipline for ST to be considered as a cognitive skill. The agency theory deals with the interrelationship of a principal and an agent engaged in cooperative behavior. There are also organizational reflections of this relationship between individuals. The aforementioned economic interaction includes theoretical aspects discussed in the context of management science. This aspect of agency theory examines the problems that arise in principal-agent relations and aims to minimize the costs arising from the interaction-based relationship. Diogenes pioneered many forms of behavior that have equivalents within the scope of agency theory and put forward views explaining behavior. The views put forward by Diogenes reveal a wide scope when considered with today's theories. Therefore, in this article, Diogenes's philosophical views on life are discussed in terms of contract costs and limited rationality within the scope of agency theory. In this article, document analysis, which is a qualitative study, was used as a research design. In the article, various transfers, evaluations and interpretations on the Diogenic approach of the concepts of contract costs and bounded rationality, which have a prominent place in agency theory, are presented. As a result, Diogenes used the issues discussed today within the scope of agency theory by illuminating those around him centuries ago and exhibiting them within the framework of vital practices. Starting from the transformation and upgrading of traditional culture, the optimization and development of traditional industries, and the innovation of traditional models, this paper used cultural entrepreneurship to trigger the thematic business engine, and explored Zhucheng City with its unique dinosaur culture. It proposed "Three-integration" rolling development mode to build Zhucheng into a new highland of cultural entrepreneurship and create new competitiveness under the background of agricultural and rural modernization development. This paper also explored from the perspective of multi-subject collaboration of cultural entrepreneurship. Government needs to establish rolling development pilot projects and promote their application; enterprises need to play the engine role of thematic business through the mode of "getting larger to help smaller ones"; the masses need to pay attention to the reaction of culture to the economy, so as to promote the wave of high-level promotion of cultural inheritance and urban-rural integration. The current study evaluated the success of implementing a blended + flipped structure in a Calculus for Life and Management Sciences course. By reimagining two of the three weekly instructional hours as online asynchronous lessons, we redesigned a 200-person section into 30-person sections, with minimal additional instructor resources. Findings indicated that students viewed the course positively, with perceptions positively correlating with course outcomes. Further, students reported more positive beliefs relating to their ability to accomplish course learning outcomes, comfort with math, and perceptions of in-class readiness compared to those in the traditional course format. There are growing calls for a decolonised curriculum. With the study reported on here, I offered an understanding of this critical topic through student voices. In this study, I illustrated how super heroes and their stories could contribute to decolonised teaching informed by the findings of the research. I specifically used the views of 30 final-year students enrolled in a strategic management course at a rural university in South Africa. Data were collected using a focus-group technique relying on group interviews. Students were asked to evaluate their experiences during the semester-long course, focusing on their understanding of aspects that could be improved given the decolonial tide. Two narratives emerged from the analysis as crucial findings. Firstly, the students expressed a desire for super heroes in the form of individuals that they can relate to to feature in higher education teaching. Secondly, related to the first request, the students also needed stories relatable to their context as a dominant feature in such teaching. With climate, biodiversity and inequity crises squarely upon us, never has there been a more pressing time to rethink how we conceptualize, understand and manage our relationship with Earth's biodiversity. Here, we describe governance principles of 17 Indigenous Nations from the Northwest Coast of North America used to understand and steward relationships among all components of nature, including humans. We then chart the colonial origins of biodiversity science and use the complex case of sea otter recovery to illuminate how ancestral governance principles can be mobilized to characterize, manage and restore biodiversity in more inclusive, integrative and equitable ways. To enhance environmental sustainability, resilience and social justice amid today's crises, we need to broaden who benefits from and participates in the sciences of biodiversity by expanding the values and methodologies that shape such initiatives. In practice, biodiversity conservation and natural resource management need to shift from centralized, siloed approaches to those that can accommodate plurality in values, objectives, governance systems, legal traditions and ways of knowing. In doing so, developing solutions to our planetary crises becomes a shared responsibility. Intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams are the world's dominant type of river ecosystem and are becoming more common because of global change. However, the inclusion of intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams in water policies and management plans remains largely limited because monitoring schemes and tools are designed for perennial rivers. In the present article, we discuss how smartphone applications used by citizen scientists can quantify the extent and occurrence of intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams. We also introduce a new app, DRYRivERS, specifically designed to monitor intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams. After a year of use, we counted more than 3600 observations from more than 1900 river reaches across 19 countries and four continents. Through three case studies, we then show that citizen science can improve our knowledge of the prevalence of intermittent rivers and ephemeral streams in the landscape, enhance hydrological modeling and calibration, and guide managers in setting water abstraction restrictions. The development of public policy studies as a research field has been associated with Western universities and research centers, while some say that public policies, their theories and applications were not created only in the West, arguing that the Middle East and North Africa and other regions in the world such as Japan, have their well-established traditions in the management science and the study of public policies. Scholar performance evaluation plays a key role in management science and engineering. Scholar evaluation using Google Scholar and ResearchGate can serve as an indispensable scouter for evaluating scholar performance. Both tools to quantitatively evaluate scholars can be used to support evidence-based decision making in administration and human resources. However, both tools must be used together for complementing accurate scholar evaluation. This author shows examples of fatal drawbacks in Google Scholar and ResearchGate, respectively. Scopus and Publons, used as default scholar performance, are affected by publisher-bias selection of journals and conferences. In this paper, based on a given parameterized identity that generates a quadrature rule family similar to Simpson's second formula, we establish some new Simpson-like type inequalities for functions with bounded as well as Lipchitzian derivatives from which we can deduce the famous 3/8-Simpson's inequality. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is one of the fastest growing approaches to solving management problems for the multi-criteria evaluation of the efficiency of homogeneous production systems. The general trend in recent years has been the development of network DEA (NDEA) models, which can consider the complicated structure of Decision Making Units (DMUs) and, therefore, can be more informative from the point of view of management science than traditional DEA models. The aim of this study is the systematization and clarification of general trends in the development of NDEA applications over the past 6 years (2017–2022). This study uses the methodology of a systematic literature review, which includes the analysis of the dynamics of the development of the topic, the selection of the main clusters of publications according to formal (citation, branches of knowledge, individual researchers) and informal (topics) criteria, and the analysis of their content. This review reveals that, most frequently, network structures are used for bank models, supply chain models, models of eco-efficiency of complex production systems, models of innovation processes, and models of universities or their departments and healthcare systems. Two-stage models, where the outputs of the first stage are the inputs of the second (intermediate outputs), are the most commonly used. However, in recent years, there has been a noticeable tendency to complicate DEA models and introduce hierarchical structures into them. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Management Basics for Information Professionals, 4th edition, by G. Edwards Evans and Stacy Greenwell is intended as a textbook for the introductory library management course with the secondary objective of helping librarians hone their management skills. The authors aim to cover management issues in all types and sizes of libraries but focus more on academic and public libraries. The 22 chapters adequately cover the broad scope of management topics including self-management and career development. Positives include stressing that management is an art rather than a science, that no one strategy will succeed in all situations, and that managers must be aware of the internal and external environment. Additional examples of turning abstract principles into practice, more humor, and increased contributions from the behavioral sciences would have strengthened the text. A supplementary 150 page document that provides challenging case studies for classroom use is available upon request. National seashores are cherished public lands with rich environmental, cultural, and historic resources. The Cape Hatteras National Seashore is one such coastal asset that is both bountiful yet vulnerable, with historic lighthouses, critical habitats, and recreational amenities alike facing threats of sea-level rise and continual storm and climate change impacts. Over 3 million visitors to the Seashore in 2021 set an annual visitation record. Historic resources such as the Bodie Island Lighthouse and Ocracoke Lighthouse are among the most visited sites, yet these assets are also among those most vulnerable to flooding, compromised structural integrity, and reduced accessibility. Future challenges to the protection and management of such resources are already being felt in the form of storms, extreme rainfall, and recurrent compound flooding. Such threats are also coincident with increasing visitation and recreational demand. This paper examines the science-based data that are being collected and management efforts underway to inform future planning, intervention, or adaptation to sea-level rise and barrier island evolution. The paper identifies the opportunities for mitigation and adaptation as well as potential environmental tipping points and limits to resilience by assessing the frequency and magnitude of flooding events and shoreline change. The term "data-limited fisheries" is a catch-all to generally describe situations lacking data to support a fully integrated stock assessment model. Data conditions range from data-void fisheries to those that reliably produce quantitative assessments. However, successful fishery assessment can also be limited by resources (e.g., time, money, capacity). The term "data-limited fisheries" is therefore too vague and incomplete to describe such wide-ranging conditions, and subsequent needs for management vary greatly according to each fishery's context. Here, we acknowledge this relativity and identify a range of factors that can constrain the ability of analyses to inform management, by instead defining the state of being "data-limited" as a continuum along axes of data (e.g., type, quality, and quantity) and resources (e.g., time, funding, capacity). We introduce a tool (the DLMapper) to apply this approach and define where a fishery lies on this relativity spectrum of limitations (i.e. from no data and no resources to no constraints on data and resources). We also provide a ranking of guiding principles, as a function of the limiting conditions. This high-level guidance is meant to identify current actions to consider for overcoming issues associated with data and resource constraints given a specific "data-limited" condition. We apply this method to 20 different fisheries to demonstrate the approach. By more explicitly outlining the various conditions that create "data-limited situations" and linking these to broad guidance, we aim to contextualize and improve the communication of conditions, and identify effective opportunities to continue to develop and progress the science of "limited" stock assessment in support of fisheries management. Mehrotra, Johnson, and Nemhauser (1998) [Management Science 44, pp. 1100–1114] addressed a problem for political districting and developed an optimization based heuristic to find good districting plans which partition the population units into contiguous districts with equal populations. Their case study found a good South Carolina plan at a penalty cost of 68. This paper develops a strong integer programming model identifying the exact optimal solution. Our model identifies the optimal South Carolina plan at the minimum penalty of 64. This article introduces a theoretical model of projects in motivated behavior. It begins with the discussion of two theoretical traditions that conceived a project as either an anticipation of action or a set of actions aimed at the same goals. The limitations of both traditions are discussed, and a project is then conceived as an integration of internal processes and actions. Next, a theoretical model of projects is presented, comprising cognitive, motivational, volitional, emotional, and behavioral components. A framework interrelating the different components of the model is presented. Considering the framework introduced, a project is then defined as a process comprising the formation, enactment, and maintenance of intentional structures and actions. The definition is comprehensive because it integrates both the previous theoretical traditions of the project in order to overcome the limitations of both. The Operations Research Society of South Africa (ORSSA), the first Operations Research (OR) society in Africa, celebrated its 50th anniversary at its annual conference in 2019. To commemorate the occasion a book, covering the history of the society, was launched at the conference. One area that was not covered in this book was the contribution of South Africans to the international OR literature. This paper endeavors to fill that void through a bibliographic analysis of papers published by South Africans over the 50-year period. A list of over 100 journals were used for this analysis. General empirical results are derived while a visual analysis of top author research networks is presented. The analysis demonstrates the contribution to the international Operations Research/Management Science (OR/MS) knowledge base of a small but vibrant national OR society at the most southern point of Africa. The considerable progress made in recent years in the diagnosis, risk stratification, and treatment of pulmonary hypertension was highlighted during the most recent edition of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association Scientific Sessions, which was held in Atlanta, Georgia from June 9 to 11, 2022, with the theme: Vision for the PHuture: The Evolving Science and Management of PH. Content presented over the 3‐day conference focused on scientific and management updates since the last sessions were held in 2018 and included didactic talks, debates, and roundtable discussions across a broad spectrum of topics related to pulmonary hypertension. This trend is related to the provision of research on practical tools managers use to achieve high economic results in a managed system. The humanization of processes in the organization and the manager's focus on employee development contribute to the formation of the organization's competitiveness and financial stability. The bibliometric analyses helped investigate the bibliographic characteristics of scientific works that reveal the content of the networking process and the practicality of its use in the social phenomenon of leadership. The bibliometric analyses proposed in the article show the quantitative indicators of the document flow in management to establish logical patterns between the broad management concept of «leadership» and the social features of the idea of «network leadership». The proposed study contributes to forming an informational scientific flow in the field of studying the development of various topical areas of leadership to increase organizations' financial results by targeting the manager to improve the conditions for the social resource in the managed system. Studying the development of network leadership allows you to consider all the positive aspects and correct certain shortcomings in this modern leadership direction. The proposed work highlights and analyses general concepts that connect the Networking category with the phenomenon of Network Leadership in organizations where managers focus on the social component of the managed organizational system - Social capital. Defence planning in South Africa has gradually declined to the point of collapse; for reasons that are both complex and largely unexplained. While South Africa is not alone in this situation, the paucity of universal theories to explain the ineffectiveness of defence planning currently limits the theoretical validity of analyses that seek to address the phenomenon. Generating a substantive hypothesis that explains not only the causes of South Africa's current defence predicament, but also those of other countries in similar circumstances, became the paper's primary purpose. By abstracting from theories in management sciences and security studies, the paper concludes that top management's approaches to defence planning are the primary mechanisms that bring about success or failure in defence decision-making. The authors subsequently integrate relevant critical, contextual, and functional approaches to defence planning in a theoretical framework, using empirical evidence from the South African defence environment to substantiate their arguments throughout. Due to the multifaceted nature of the revitalisation process, its evaluation and monitoring, as well as possible comparisons, are complex and difficult to carry out. Evaluation of the revitalisation process currently poses a challenge for all municipalities. The article aims to compare the revitalisation process in the two Polish cities of Toruń and Bydgoszcz. The analysis was based on two financial perspectives: 2007–2015 and 2016–2023. The authors chose a multi-criteria analysis method based on the analytical hierarchical process (AHP) as the main research method. The results show that the Local Revitalisation Programme of the City of Toruń for the years 2007–2015 had the best impact on the revitalisation process. Using the AHP method, we could carry out a multidimensional evaluation of the revitalisation process. Moreover, it allowed us to combine different elements of the evaluation of the revitalisation process and transform them into one synthetic result, ranking each programme in a hierarchy. At the methodological level, the article presents a new approach to conduct research in socio-economic geography, using the tool of multi-criteria analysis derived from the disciplines of economics and management sciences. In contexts of scientific production deemed peripheral, knowledge produced is depicted in a condition of inferiority relative to that produced in other contexts; the daily practice of science is then guided by values ⁣⁣and procedures, be they conscious or not, of peripheralization. This research note discusses the constitution, reproduction and generalization of peripheralization into what I call a regime of management of irrelevance in science: a scientific process with its own pragmatic and value content, whose elements will be presented in this work. These elements were identified during field research in laboratories and interviews with key interlocutors (research leaders) of biotechnology research teams in Brazil. What matters here is instead of taking the center/periphery dichotomy as an objective structure of the scientific system – a common approach in science and technology studies – it is shown as expectations with practical repercussions. In the knapsack problem a group of agents want to fill a knapsack with several goods. Two issues must be considered. The first is to decide optimally what goods to select for the knapsack. This issue has been studied in many papers in the literature on Operations Research and Management Science. The second issue is to divide the total revenue among the agents. This issue has been studied in only a few papers, and this is one of them. For each knapsack problem we consider three associated cooperative games. One of them (the pessimistic game) has already been considered in the literature. The other two (realistic and optimistic games) are defined in this paper. The pessimistic and realistic games have non-empty cores but the core of the optimistic game could be empty. We then follow the axiomatic approach. We propose two rules: The first is based on the optimal solution of the knapsack problem. The second is the Shapley value of the so called optimistic game. The energy sector plays a crucial role in addressing the global challenges of achieving sustainability by using renewable energy sources as well as by increasing energy efficiency and conservation while gaining energy security and safety. Choosing an appropriate research method to investigate the energy sector's management has become more complex, involving multiple factors such as technical, environmental, social, political and economic. Additionally, considering the important role of energy in modern society, it is imperative to study the current methods used in examining the energy sector and to create an appropriate theory of the managing energy sector enterprises in the future. The main purpose of this review paper is to explore which research methods and approaches are utilized by researchers studying the issues of the managing energy sector enterprises. This article presents a systematic review based on a qualitative synthesis of the accessible publications from the Scopus database. In this review, which also adhered to strict search and filter criteria, a total of 77 articles were selected and synthesized. The selected papers met the inclusion criteria and a bibliometric visualization approach was applied using MAXQDA2020 software. The present paper reveals existing research trends in utilizing various research approaches in the energy sector from the perspective of management sciences in the last ten years and also provides future research avenues in the discussed area of knowledge. With this study we explored teachers' views on the role of economic and management sciences (EMS) in preparing learners for accounting in the Further Education and Training (FET) Phase. A qualitative research approach was employed along with the interpretivist paradigm to underpin the study. We used a qualitative case study approach to allow for an in-depth understanding of the views of the teachers by talking to them directly. Semi-structured individual and focus-group interviews were used as data collection methods. Participants in the study included 5 Grade 9 EMS teachers and 5 Grade 10 accounting teachers who were conveniently and purposively sampled from 5 secondary schools. A thematic analysis approach was adopted to analyse the interview responses. The findings of the study reveal that teachers understood that EMS was an integrated subject. However, Grade 9 teachers struggled to teach EMS in an integrated manner and this hampered the teaching of financial literacy. The challenges in teaching EMS are aggravated by the lack of relevant pedagogical strategies, the lack of adequate knowledge of the subject and missing pertinent foundational content in the EMS curriculum and textbooks. With regard to automated data curation and the generation of data for machine learning processes, the collection and sharing of machine‐readable data, including negative results, is a key step. The electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) Chemotion provides the possibility to share synthesis data with other scientists taking the mentioned aspects into account. In these guidelines, we offer general information on how to share data in Chemotion and present our sharing policy as a best practice example on how to use Chemotion's sharing functions in a working group with several group members on various hierarchy levels. The article addresses a previous viewpoint on cultural burning and land management, clarifying the original intent and addressing misinterpretations. The authors emphasize that hazard reduction burning is not the same as cultural burning practiced by First Nations Peoples. They acknowledge the importance of cultural burning and its potential to reduce fuel loads and the risk of severe bushfires. The authors also highlight the need for collaboration and partnerships between First Nations Peoples and Western scientists and government to guide appropriate fire management. To meet the future challenges and foster integrated and holistic research approaches in agricultural sciences, new and sustainable methods in research data management (RDM) are needed. The involvement of scientific users is a critical success factor for their development. We conducted an online survey in 2020 among different user groups in agricultural sciences about their RDM practices and needs. In total, the questionnaire contained 52 questions on information about produced and (re-)used data, data quality aspects, information about the use of standards, publication practices and legal aspects of agricultural research data, the current situation in RDM in regards to awareness, consulting and curricula as well as needs of the agricultural community in respect to future developments. We received 196 (partially) completed questionnaires from data providers, data users, infrastructure and information service providers. In addition to the diversity in the research data landscape of agricultural sciences in Germany, the study reveals challenges, deficits and uncertainties in handling research data in agricultural sciences standing in the way of access and efficient reuse of valuable research data. However, the study also suggests and discusses potential solutions to enhance data publications, facilitate and secure data re-use, ensure data quality and develop services (i.e. training, support and bundling services). Therefore, our research article provides the basis for the development of common RDM, future infrastructures and services needed to foster the cultural change in handling research data across agricultural sciences in Germany and beyond. The USA National Phenology Network was established in 2007 to formalize standardized phenology monitoring across the country. The aims of the network are to collect, store, and share phenology data and information to support scientific discovery, decision-making, an appreciation for phenology, and equitable engagement within the network. To support these aims, the network launched Nature's Notebook, a rigorous platform for monitoring plant and animal phenology, in 2009. Since the launch of Nature's Notebook, participants across the country have contributed over 30 million phenology records. The participants range from backyard observers with an interest in nature to researchers and natural resource managers asking specific questions. We survey the breadth of studies and applied decisions that have used Nature's Notebook and the consequent data. The dimensionality of the data set maintained by the network is a function of Nature's Notebook users; this insight is key to shaping the network's future data collection activities. Riparian zones are the paragon of transitional ecosystems, providing critical habitat and ecosystem services that are especially threatened by global change. Following consultation with experts, 10 key challenges were identified to be addressed for riparian vegetation science and management improvement: (1) Create a distinct scientific community by establishing stronger bridges between disciplines; (2) Make riparian vegetation more visible and appreciated in society and policies; (3) Improve knowledge regarding biodiversity—ecosystem functioning links; (4) Manage spatial scale and context‐based issues; (5) Improve knowledge on social dimensions of riparian vegetation; (6) Anticipate responses to emergent issues and future trajectories; (7) Enhance tools to quantify and prioritize ecosystem services; (8) Improve numerical modeling and simulation tools; (9) Calibrate methods and increase data availability for better indicators and monitoring practices and transferability; and (10) Undertake scientific validation of best management practices. A bibliometric review of the research field "stock price variation" is presented, with a search from 2012 to 2022. The analysis was performed using the indexes, WOS and Scopus databases, search strategies and filters were applied that allowed finding a total of 68 related research in a single file in csv format, this after unifying them and eliminating duplicate records. The file was processed using the Bibliometric package of the statistical program R. The main results show that the scientific production worldwide presents a fluctuation with highs and lows throughout the period, with the highest number of research presented in the years 2017 and 2020 (7); the author and one of the journals with the highest impact in the field of study were, Barmish B. and Management science respectively. This review article analyses six texts within the sociology of organizations published in the early decades of the twenty-first century with a view to exploring what they tell us about the key issues and developmental trajectories the former will follow as this century unfolds. It suggests that the sociology of organizations is in good intellectual shape and continues to speak to issues which are central to our lives today and tomorrow. However, it also indicates that intellectual rejuvenation through contestation must be sustained within the field – particularly in the face of pressures towards intellectual closure and conformity – if it is to retain its relevance at a time when instability and uncertainty seem to be pervasive. When URUCIB was created, we did not know we were making an Executive Information Systems. In those days, the development of information technology was very nascent, and its impact on developing countries was even more limited. This paper tells how a government imagined using these resources and put them at the service of its management to have real-time information to guide decision-making. It shows how an interdisciplinary team of professionals from informatics, cybernetics, economics, statistics, and politics worked to create a state-of-the-art system in its time, using available information and communication technologies. It shows the challenges that had to be overcome, both technological and cultural, and how this was carried out. It compares the experience of Uruguay with a previous and similar one in Chile fourteen years earlier. It then argues some of the main problems faced and claims the innovative character of the project. Finally, it draws some conclusions from experience. Distinguished British cybernetics expert Prof. Stafford Beer was hired as an advisor, the President of the Republic, Dr. Julio María Sanguinetti, gave his enthusiastic support and project leader Eng. Students want integrative, transformative courses to help them address society’s pressing problems. This integrative and interdisciplinary course targeted educational needs of future environmental experts (scientists, managers, policy leaders). It was transformative for students, helping them achieve their potential (e.g., “competence in action,” “ethical pragmatism”). The course encouraged reflexivity on meaning of life/existence, problem solving skills, and social and policy process. It taught the New Haven School of Jurisprudence at its core (i.e., the policy sciences). Clark started the course in 1990 and updated it annually. Terway co-taught the course with Clark from 2013-2016 and guided the appraisal below. Students submitted course reviews anonymously. This was our data set–we analyzed, grouped responses, and identified major themes in their appraisals. Some students had conventional expectation coming into the course, and so, the course was initially disorienting and did not meet students’ conventional expectations. We reinforced students as they engaged new course materials. Last, we found that student reflexivity required substantial time and effort on the part of instructors and fellow students. The course taught students what and how to integrate among contributions from both scholarly and practical domains. In sum, our appraisal (and the course) set out to understand the outcome of pedagogy designed to make explicit the meaning-making process among future environmental experts. Some students in their appraisal noted that this is the best course they had in their graduate program.
