Background: Supporting individuals in managing their suicidality can prevent suicidal behavior. This study evaluated the suicide prevention project SERO, which was launched in Central Switzerland in 2021. SERO comprises four components: the suicide risk assessment technique PRISM-S, a personal safety plan, mental health first aid courses for relatives, and a self-management app. We assessed the mental health of individuals at increased suicide risk after hospital discharge and evaluated the usage and usefulness of SERO components., Methods: A cross-sectional study targeted former patients of Lucerne Psychiatry with an increased suicide risk. Between March 2023 and March 2024, we collected data from 24 individuals through a questionnaire administered six months post-discharge. Descriptive statistics characterized sociodemographics, assessed self-efficacy, self-management, and health literacy, and analyzed the usage and usefulness of SERO components. Associations between the usage of SERO components and mental health outcomes were investigated using Wilcoxon rank sum tests., Results: Mental health assessments indicated, on average, low to moderate levels of self-efficacy, self-management, and health literacy, with substantial variations across individuals. Participants' exposure to SERO components varied: 83% used PRISM-S for suicide risk assessment, 67% developed a personal safety plan, 38% used the SERO app, and 8% reported that their relatives participated in a mental health first aid course. 50% of safety plan users and 44% of SERO app users found the tools helpful before or during a suicidal crisis. 78% of SERO app users would recommend the app to others., Conclusion: Low to moderate levels of self-efficacy, self-management, and health literacy underscore the need for targeted interventions to support individuals at suicide risk. Positive feedback on the personal safety plan and the SERO app suggests their potential effectiveness in helping individuals manage their suicidality. Therefore, integrating structured measures for promoting self-management into standard care protocols in psychiatric hospitals and into patients' lives may contribute to preventing suicides. The main limitation of our study is its small sample size. Mobile apps indicate a positive effect on suicidal ideation and potential impact on suicide attempts. As part of the SERO suicide prevention program, Lucerne Psychiatry in collaboration with partner organizations aims to reduce suicides and suicide attempts in its service area, and to improve the self-management of suicidal individuals with a mobile app. The concept for such an app was developed in a trialog with health professionals, persons at risk and their relatives and its functions were compared to six known essential app-based strategies for suicide prevention, such as the development of a safety plan, access to support networks and tracking of mood. We present the concept and architecture for the app and discuss potential added value, which may result from the intertwining of the strategies within the app, which will be available in its first version in late 2022.

Autoinjectable devices continue to provide real-life benefits for patients with chronic conditions since their widespread adoption 30 years ago with the rise of macromolecules. Nonetheless, issues surrounding adherence, patient administration techniques, disease self-management, and data outcomes at scale persist despite product design innovation. The interface of drug device combination products and digital health technologies formulates a value proposition for next-generation autoinjectable devices to power the delivery of precision care at home and achieve the full potential of biologics. Success will largely be dependent on biopharma's digital health maturity to implement this framework. A blinded placebo-controlled multi-center on-farm trial was conducted in dairy cows with subclinical ketosis to investigate effects of a multicomponent herbal extract. Blood ketone levels were measured weekly in early lactating cows from 16 Swiss herds. Cows were subclassified based on their initial blood- β -hydroxybutyrate levels (≥ 1.0 [KET-low, 84 cows] and > 1.2 mmol/L [KET-high, 39 cows]) and randomly distributed to 3 groups treated orally with herbal extract containing Camellia sinensis, Cichcorium intybus, Gentiana lutea, Glycyrrhiza glabra, Taraxacum officinale, Trigonella foenum-graecum , and Zingiber officinale , sodium propionate, or placebo twice a day for 5 days. Milk yield, milk acetone, blood- β -hydroxybutyrate, glucose, nonesterified fatty acids, gamma-glutamyl transferase, and glutamate dehydrogenase were analyzed over 2 wk. Linear mixed effect models were used for data analysis. No effects were found for nonesterifed fatty acids, gamma-glutamyl transferase, and glucose. Significantly higher glutamate dehydrogenase (29.71 U/L) values were found in herbal extract-treated animals compared to sodium propionate on day 7 (22.33 U/L). By trend, higher blood- β -hydroxybutyrate levels (1.36 mmol/L) were found in the placebo group of KET-high-cows on day 14 compared to the sodium propionate group (0.91 mmol/L). Milk yields of all treatment groups increased. Milking time and treatment showed a significant interaction for milk acetone: sodium propionate led to an immediate decrease, whereas herbal extracts resulted in a milk acetone decrease from day 7 on, reaching significantly lower milk acetone on day 14 (3.17 mg/L) when compared to placebo (4.89 mg/L). In conclusion, herbal extracts and sodium propionate are both likely to improve subclinical ketosis in dairy cows, however, by different modes of action., Competing Interests: The study was funded by SaluVet GmbH. Postweaning diarrhoea (PWD) due to Escherichia coli is an economically important disease in pig production. In this placebo-controlled study performed in Switzerland, the effects of oral supplementation of Allium sativum L. (garlic, AS) on performance (bodyweight (BW) and daily weight gain (DWG)) and health (body condition and clinical score) were investigated in postweaning piglets. Piglets (n=600) were randomly assigned to the treatment groups (placebo, AS or colistin) and observed from birth until three weeks postweaning. The treatments were administered for the first two weeks postweaning. Faecal dry matter (FDM) and coliform bacteria on pen level were measured weekly. Data were analysed using generalised mixed-effect models in R. BW and DWG of the AS group were significantly higher compared with placebo in the third week postweaning. No differences in body condition and FDM were observed. The clinical score of AS-treated animals was significantly better compared with the colistin group. About 33 per cent of the piglets of the AS and the placebo group had to be treated with antibiotics due to the occurrence of severe PWD.
