3. Effect of polydiborosiloxane on the mechanical properties of silicone rubber foam with dual network structure

Abstract

A silicone rubber foam is prepared by introducing polydiborosiloxane (PDBS) into silicone rubber, and using expandable microspheres as blowing agents. The influences of the dual network structure with dynamic cross-linking network on the silicone rubber foam is characterized by the cell size, mechanical properties and impact resistance. The cell size increases from 77 to 93 [micro]m due to the introduction of a dynamic cross-linking network which reduces foaming resistance. The elongation at break elevates from 277% to 574%, and the yield strength gradually decreases. The dynamic cross-linking network also enhances the internal damping characteristic and energy absorption capacity of the foam. The impact resistance of silicone rubber foam is improved because of the synergistic effect of the dual network structure and the bubble structure. The research improves the performance of silicone rubber foam. Abstract

Conventional silicon bipolars are not suitable for low-temperature operation due to the deterioration of current gain ($\beta$). In this paper, we characterize lateral bipolar junction transistors (LBJTs) fabricated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) wafers down to liquid helium temperature (4 K). The positive SOI substrate bias could greatly increase the collector current and have a negligible effect on the base current, which significantly alleviates $\beta$ degradation at low temperatures. We present a physical-based compact LBJT model for 4 K simulation, in which the collector current ($\textit{I}_\textbf{C}$) consists of the tunneling current and the additional current component near the buried oxide (BOX)/silicon interface caused by the substrate modulation effect. This model is able to fit the Gummel characteristics of LBJTs very well and has promising applications in amplifier circuits simulation for silicon-based qubits signals.

Abstract

All-liquid molding can be used to transform a liquid into free-form solid constructs, while maintaining internal fluidity. Traditional biological scaffolds, such as cured pre-gels, are normally processed in solid state, sacrificing flowability and permeability. However, it is essential to maintain the fluidity of the scaffold to truly mimic the complexity and heterogeneity of natural human tissues. Here, this work molds an aqueous biomaterial ink into liquid building blocks with rigid shapes while preserving internal fluidity. The molded ink blocks for bone-like vertebrae and cartilaginous-intervertebral-disc shapes, are magnetically manipulated to assemble into hierarchical structures as a scaffold for subsequent spinal column tissue growth. It is also possible to join separate ink blocks by interfacial coalescence, different from bridging solid blocks by interfacial fixation. Generally, aqueous biomaterial inks are molded into shapes with high fidelity by the interfacial jamming of alginate surfactants. The molded liquid blocks can be reconfigured using induced magnetic dipoles, that dictated the magnetic assembly behavior of liquid blocks. The implanted spinal column tissue exhibits a biocompatibility based on in vitro seeding and in vivo cultivating results, showing potential physiological function such as bending of the spinal column.

Abstract

Deciduous woody plants like poplar (Populus spp.) have seasonal bud dormancy. It has been challenging to simultaneously delay the onset of bud dormancy in the fall and advance bud break in the spring, as bud dormancy, and bud break were thought to be controlled by different genetic factors. Here, we demonstrate that heterologous expression of the REVEILLE1 gene (named AaRVE1) from Agave (Agave americana) not only delays the onset of bud dormancy but also accelerates bud break in poplar in field trials. AaRVE1 heterologous expression increases poplar biomass yield by 166% in the greenhouse. Furthermore, we reveal that heterologous expression of AaRVE1 increases cytokinin contents, represses multiple dormancy-related genes, and up-regulates bud break-related genes, and that AaRVE1 functions as a transcriptional repressor and regulates the activity of the DORMANCY-ASSOCIATED PROTEIN 1 (DRM1) promoter. Our findings demonstrate that AaRVE1 appears to function as a regulator of bud dormancy and bud break, which has important implications for extending the growing season of deciduous trees in frost-free temperate and subtropical regions to increase crop yield.

18. Differences in crustal stress direction in the southern section of the Huayingshan fault zone in Sichuan Basin: Insights from in situ borehole image logging

Abstract

Objective The Huayingshan fault zone, the largest fault zone within Sichuan Basin, exhibits notable differences in geological structures on both sides. Historically, earthquakes with a magnitude of ≤5 have occurred frequently along this fault zone, which remains relatively active to this day, disturbing the crustal stress field of the basin. Clarifying the crustal stress state of the Huayingshan fault zone can enhance our understanding of its active deformation and its tectonic and seismic activities and serve as a reference for subsequent research regarding this fault zone. Currently, geostress studies in this area rely mainly on analyzing seismic data, whereas the investigation of borehole data remains relatively scarce. Methods We collected and collated imaging data regarding borehole collapse and borehole-induced tensile fractures from eight borehole logging sites in the southern segment of the Huayingshan fault zone; the geostress directions of these eight boreholes were determined by analyzing these data. Subsequently, a comprehensive analysis of the geostress characteristics was performed by combining the data regarding China’s modern stress field and the earthquake focal mechanism solutions in the southeastern margin of Sichuan Basin. Results The maximum horizontal principal stress in four boreholes located in the southern region of the southern segment of the Huayingshan fault zone was oriented in the NWW-SEE direction, which aligns with the regional stress field direction in Sichuan Basin; only one borehole in the southern region exhibited a maximum horizontal principal stress in the NEE—SWW direction, representing a counterclockwise deviation relative to the regional stress field of Sichuan Basin. Meanwhile, the maximum horizontal principal stress in all three boreholes in the central region of the southern segment of the Huayingshan fault zone was also oriented in the NEE—SWW direction, representing a counterclockwise deviation relative to the regional stress field of Sichuan Basin. Conclusion Through the comprehensive analysis of the above results and the tectonic features and basement properties of the study area, the following conclusions are drawn: (1) The deviations in stress direction in the southern segment of the fault zone are primarily caused by the combined effects of changes in the basement properties of the region, tectonic stress near the boreholes, and the regional stress field. (2) The geostress characteristics obtained in the present study, along with the focal mechanism solutions of earthquakes in the southern segment of the Huayingshan fault zone, indicate that the stress direction in the southeastern margin of Sichuan Basin is relatively divergent, resulting from the combined effects of complex local structures and the regional stress field in this region. Significance The present study aims to supplement the geostress data regarding the southern segment of the Huayingshan fault zone based on borehole data, analyze the current stress field state of the rock mass, and determine the direction of the maximum horizontal principal stress. These findings will provide supporting geostress data for subsequent research on the frequent seismic activities in this region.

Quantum computing (QC) requires cryogenic electronic circuits as control and readout sub-systems of quantum chips to meet the qubit scale-up challenges.At this temperature,MOSFETs transistors exhibition many changes such as higher threshold voltage,higher mobility,and steeper substhreshold slope.We present a cryogenic fully differential gain boosting-OTA used for a 14 bit Pipelined-SAR ADC operating at 4.2K as the readout circuit for semiconductor-based quantum computing system.Using $g_{m}/I_{d}$ methodology to get pre-computed lookup tables based on the cryogenic 110nm BSIM4 model.The proposed OTA achieves very high unity-gain frequency@1.23GHz and open-loop low frequency gain@101dB.The total power consumption is 2.66mW at 4.2K,and a setting accuracy better than 0.01\% with $f_{-3dB}$ of 37MHz in a closed-loop application., Comment: 4 pages,7figures

Abstract

The cryogenic performance of GaN-based HEMTs (high-electron-mobility transistors) is systematically investigated by the direct current (DC) and low-frequency noise (LFN) characteristics within the temperature (T) range from 300 K to 4.2 K. The important electrical merits of the device, including drain saturation current (IDsat), on-resistance (RON), transductance, subthreshold swing (SS), gate leakage current, and Schottky barrier height, are comprehensively characterized and their temperature-dependent behavior was statistically analyzed. In addition, the LFN of the device shows an evident behavior of 1/f noise from 10 Hz to 10 kHz in the measured temperature range and can be significantly reduced at cryogenic temperature. 21. QCD improved top-quark decay at next-to-next-to-leading order

Abstract

We analyse the top-quark decay at the next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) in QCD by using the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) which provides a systematic way to eliminate renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities in perturbative QCD predictions. The PMC renormalization scales of the coupling constant $\alpha_s$ are determined by absorbing the non-conformal $\beta$ terms that govern the behavior of the running coupling by using the Renormalization Group Equation (RGE). We obtain the PMC scale $Q_\star=15.5$ GeV for the top-quark decay, which is an order of magnitude smaller than the conventional choice $\mu_r=m_t$, reflecting the small virtuality of the QCD dynamics of the top-quark decay process. Moreover, due to the non-conformal $\beta$ terms disappear in the pQCD series, there is no renormalon divergence and the NLO QCD correction term is greatly increased while the NNLO QCD correction term is suppressed compared to the conventional results obtained at $\mu_r=m_t$. By further including the next-to-leading (NLO) electroweak corrections, the finite $W$ boson width and the finite bottom quark mass, we obtain the top-quark total decay width $\Gamma^{\rm tot}_t=1.3112^{+0.0190}_{-0.0189}$ GeV, where the error is the squared averages of the top-quark mass $\Delta m_t=\pm0.7$ GeV, the coupling constant $\Delta \alpha_s(M_Z)=\pm0.0009$ and the estimation of unknown higher-order terms using the PAA method with [N/M]=[1/1]. Abstract

In this paper, we give comprehensive analyses for event shape observables in electron-positron annihilation by using the Principle of Maximum Conformality (PMC) which is a rigorous scale-setting method to eliminate the renormalization scheme and scale ambiguities in perturbative QCD predictions. Conventionally the renormalization scale and theoretical uncertainties in event shape observables are often evaluated by setting the scale to the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$. The event shape distributions using this conventional scale setting are plagued by the large renormalization scale uncertainty and underestimate the experimental data. Moreover, since the renormalization scale is simply fixed to the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}$, only one value of the coupling $\alpha_s$ at the single scale $\sqrt{s}$ can be extracted. In contrast, the PMC renormalization scales are determined by absorbing the nonconformal $\beta$ contributions that govern the behavior of the running coupling via the Renormalization Group Equation (RGE). The resulting PMC scales change with event shape kinematics, reflecting the virtuality of the underlying quark and gluon subprocess. The PMC scales thus yield the correct physical behavior of the scale and the PMC predictions agree with precise event shape distributions measured at the LEP experiment.
