Abstract: Abstract The branching fraction of D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ is measured for the first time using 7.93 fb −1 of e + e − annihilation data collected at the center-of-mass energy s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider, and is determined to be B D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e = 0.881 ± 0.017 stat . ± 0.016 syst . % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(0.881\pm {0.017}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.016}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ . Based on an analysis of the D + → K S 0 π 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {K}_S^0{\pi}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ decay dynamics, we observe the S-wave and P-wave components with fractions of f S-wave = (6.13 ± 0.27stat. ± 0.30syst. )% and f K ¯ ∗ 892 0 = 93.88 ± 0.27 stat . ± 0.29 syst . % $$ {f}_{{\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0}=\left(93.88\pm {0.27}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.29}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ , respectively. From these results, we obtain the branching fractions B D + → K S 0 π 0 S − wave e + ν e = 5.41 ± 0.35 stat . ± 0.37 syst . × 10 − 4 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\left({K}_S^0{\pi}^0\right)}_{S-\textrm{wave}}{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(5.41\pm {0.35}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.37}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\times {10}^{-4} $$ and B D + → K ¯ ∗ 892 0 e + ν e = 4.97 ± 0.11 stat . ± 0.12 syst . % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e\right)=\left(4.97\pm {0.11}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.12}_{\textrm{syst}.}\right)\% $$ . In addition, the hadronic form-factor ratios of D + → K ¯ ∗ 892 0 e + ν e $$ {D}^{+}\to {\overline{K}}^{\ast }{(892)}^0{e}^{+}{\nu}_e $$ at q 2 = 0, assuming a single-pole dominance parameterization, are determined to be r V = V 0 A 1 0 = 1.43 ± 0.07 stat . ± 0.03 syst . $$ {r}_V=\frac{V(0)}{A_1(0)}=1.43\pm {0.07}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.03}_{\textrm{syst}.} $$ and r 2 = A 2 0 A 1 0 = 0.72 ± 0.06 stat . ± 0.02 syst . $$ {r}_2=\frac{A_2(0)}{A_1(0)}=0.72\pm {0.06}_{\textrm{stat}.}\pm {0.02}_{\textrm{syst}.} $$ .

2. Unsupervised Bushfire Burn Severity Mapping Using Aerial and Satellite Imagery

Abstract: It is critical to assess bushfire impact rapidly and accurately because bushfires play a significant role in forest degradation and present a threat to ecosystems and human lives. Over the past decades, several supervised algorithms of burn severity mapping have been proposed, facing the significant drawback of time-consuming labeling. Moreover, there is no robust framework for burn severity mapping through fusing multi-sensor, multi-resolution, and multi-temporal remote sensing imagery from satellite and aerial platforms. Therefore, this paper presents an unsupervised two-step pipeline: processing 2D data followed by 3D data for burn severity mapping, both of which are acquired from either aircraft or satellites. For the 2D data processing, our proposed unsupervised burned area detection (UsBA detection) model enhances burned area mapping accuracy by integrating Ultra-High Resolution (UHR) aerial imagery with bi-temporal medium-resolution PlanetScope imagery, using a Segment Anything Model (SAM)-assisted UNetFormer (pre-trained on the target-style public dataset – LoveDA Rural) for refinement. The model demonstrates superior burned area segmentation, evidenced by improved evaluation metrics calculated from labeled test sites. For the 3D analysis, the burned areas extracted from 2D processing are further assessed using pre- and post-event airborne laser data. We implement a voxel-based workflow, including necessary steps such as ground filtering through Superpoints in RANSAC Planes (SiRP) method and biomass change analysis. The results indicate that the 3D branch provides a reliable lower bound of the actual damage map, because the vegetation growth between two measurements remains, in essence, undetected. The proposed framework offers a more accurate and robust solution for burn severity mapping utilizing combined 2D and 3D data, evaluated on a multi-source dataset from a real bushfire event that occurred in Bushland Park, South Australia.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − annihilation data sets corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.5 fb −1, collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.600 and 4.699 GeV, we report the first measurements of the absolute branching fractions B Λ c + → p K L 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0\right) $$ = (1.67 ± 0.06 ± 0.04)%, B Λ c + → p K L 0 π + π − $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right) $$ = (1.69 ± 0.10 ± 0.05)%, and B Λ c + → p K L 0 π 0 $$ \mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_L^0{\pi}^0\right) $$ = (2.02 ± 0.13 ± 0.05)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Combining with the known branching fractions of Λ c + → p K S 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0 $$ , Λ c + → p K S 0 π + π − $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-} $$ , and Λ c + → p K S 0 π 0 $$ {\Lambda}_c^{+}\to p{K}_S^0{\pi}^0 $$ , we present the first measurements of the K S 0 $$ {K}_S^0 $$ - K L 0 $$ {K}_L^0 $$ asymmetries R Λ c + K S , L 0 X = B Λ c + → K S 0 X − B Λ c + → K L 0 X B Λ c + → K S 0 X + B Λ c + → K L 0 X $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},{K}_{S,L}^0X\right)=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)-\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_S^0X\right)+\mathcal{B}\left({\Lambda}_c^{+}\to {K}_L^0X\right)} $$ in charmed baryon decays: R Λ c + p K S , L 0 = − 0.025 ± 0.031 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0\right)=-0.025\pm 0.031 $$ , R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π + π − = − 0.027 ± 0.048 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^{-}\right)=-0.027\pm 0.048 $$ and R Λ c + p K S , L 0 π 0 = − 0.015 ± 0.046 $$ R\left({\Lambda}_c^{+},p{K}_{S,L}^0{\pi}^0\right)=-0.015\pm 0.046 $$ . No significant asymmetries with statistical significance are observed.

Abstract: Abstract The processes h c → γP (P = η′, η, π 0) are studied with a sample of (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. The decay h c → γη is observed for the first time with the significance of 9.0 σ, and the branching fraction is determined to be (3.77 ± 0.55 ± 0.13 ± 0.26) × 10 −4, while B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γη′) is measured to be (1.40 ± 0.11 ± 0.04 ± 0.10) × 10 −3, where the first uncertainties are statistical, the second systematic, and the third from the branching fraction of ψ(3686) → π 0 h c . The combination of these results allows for a precise determination of R h c = B h c → γη B h c → γ η ′ , $$ {R}_{h_c}=\frac{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma \eta \right)}{\mathcal{B}\left({h}_c\to {\pi}^0\gamma {\eta}^{\prime}\right)}, $$ which is calculated to be (27.0 ± 4.4 ± 1.0)%. The results are valuable for gaining a deeper understanding of η − η′ mixing, and its manifestation within quantum chromodynamics. No significant signal is found for the decay h c → γπ 0, and an upper limit is placed on its branching fraction of B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (h c → γπ 0) < 5.0 × 10 −5, at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies between 3.510 and 4.914 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25 fb −1, we measure the Born cross sections for the process e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ at thirty-five energy points with a partial-reconstruction strategy. By fitting the dressed cross sections of e + e − → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ , evidence for ψ 4160 → K − Ξ ¯ + Λ $$ \psi (4160)\to {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda $$ is found for the first time with a significance of 4.4σ, including systematic uncertainties. No evidence for other possible resonances is found. In addition, the products of electronic partial width and branching fraction for all assumed resonances decaying into K − Ξ ¯ + Λ / Σ 0 $$ {K}^{-}{\overline{\Xi}}^{+}\Lambda /{\Sigma}^0 $$ are determined.

Abstract: Abstract Using e + e − collision data collected at the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies between 4.128 and 4.226 GeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 7.33 fb −1, we determine the absolute branching fractions of fifteen hadronic D s + $$ {D}_s^{+} $$ decays with a double-tag technique. In particular, we make precise measurements of the branching fractions B D s + → K + K − π + = 5.49 ± 0.04 ± 0.07 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}\right)=\left(5.49\pm 0.04\pm 0.07\right)\% $$ , B D s + → K S 0 K + = 1.50 ± 0.01 ± 0.01 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}_S^0{K}^{+}\right)=\left(1.50\pm 0.01\pm 0.01\right)\% $$ and B D s + → K + K − π + π 0 = 5.50 ± 0.05 ± 0.11 % $$ \mathcal{B}\left({D}_s^{+}\to {K}^{+}{K}^{-}{\pi}^{+}{\pi}^0\right)=\left(5.50\pm 0.05\pm 0.11\right)\% $$ , where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second ones are systematic. The CP asymmetries in these decays are also measured and all are found to be compatible with zero.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected by the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of s $$ \sqrt{s} $$ = 3.686 GeV, we search for the first time for two nonleptonic hyperon decays that change strangeness by two units, Ω − → Σ0 π − and Ω − → nK − . No significant signal is observed. The upper limits on their decay branching fractions are determined to be B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → Σ0 π − ) < 5.4 × 10 −4 and B $$ \mathcal{B} $$ (Ω − → nK − ) < 2.4 × 10 −4 at the 90% confidence level.

Abstract: Abstract Using 24.1 fb −1 of e + e − collision data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, the Born cross sections and effective form factors of the e + e − → Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {e}^{+}{e}^{-}\to {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ reaction are measured. The measurements are performed at center-of-mass energies ranging from 3.510 to 4.951 GeV. No significant evidence for the decay of the charmonium(-like) states, ψ(3770), ψ(4040), ψ(4160), Y(4230), Y(4360), ψ(4415), and Y(4660), into a Σ + Σ ¯ − $$ {\Sigma}^{+}{\overline{\Sigma}}^{-} $$ final state is observed. Consequently, upper limits for the products of the branching fractions and the electronic partial widths at the 90% confidence level are reported for these decays.

Abstract: Abstract Using (27.12 ± 0.14) × 108 ψ(3686) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, the decay of ψ(3686) → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 $$ {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0 $$ + c.c. is observed for the first time. The branching fraction of this decay is measured to be B ψ 3686 → Ω − K + Ξ ¯ 0 + c . c . $$ {\mathcal{B}}_{\psi (3686)\to {\varOmega}^{-}{K}^{+}{\overline{\Xi}}^0+\textrm{c}.\textrm{c}.} $$ = (2.78 ± 0.40 ± 0.18) × 10 −6, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. Possible baryon excited states are searched for in this decay, but no evident intermediate state is observed with the current sample size.

Abstract: A massless particle beyond the Standard Model is searched for in the two-body decay Σ+→p+invisible using (1.0087±0.0044)×1010 J/ψ events collected at a center-of-mass energy of s=3.097GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. No significant signal is observed, and the upper limit on the branching fraction B(Σ+→p+invisible) is determined to be 3.2×10−5 at the 90% confidence level. This is the first search for a flavor-changing neutral current process with missing energy in hyperon decays which plays an important role in constraining new physics models.

11. Improved Phase Noise Compensation in OFDM Systems

Abstract: Phase noise (PN) consists of common phase error (CPE) and inter carrier interference (ICI). In an OFDM symbol, CPE has the same impact on each subcarrier, which is easy to be suppressed. However, ICI destroys the orthogonality of subcarriers, which is difficult to be eliminated. Therefore, an additional method is needed to be performed in the OFDM receiver to compensate the ICI. The interpolation method is considered an effective way to eliminate the ICI caused by PN in the OFDM system. To enhance the accuracy of the PN estimation and compensation, we propose a linear method, LI-ICI-EE1 method based on LI-ICI-E1. Multiple interpolation slopes are first calculated by selecting multiple pairs of observation samples, then the slope with the maximal linear fitting degree based on the least square (LS) criterion is selected to improve the LI precision. Furthermore, to improve the estimation accuracy of PN in the LI-ICI-EE1, we propose a Shrinkage-based on LI-ICI-E1 method named SLI-EE1, which is implemented by adding an l2 norm penalty term to the error function. At last, to optimize the low accuracy of LI-ICI-EE1 and SLI-EE1 when the PN compensation problem is a high-order problem, we propose a non-linear method Shrinkage-based Third-order Lagrange method named STL. Simulation results show that the improved methods have better BER performance.

Abstract: Massive multi-input multi-output (MIMO) has attracted significant interest in academia and industry, which can efficiently increase the transmission rate. However, the error rate of conventional channel equalizations in massive MIMO systems may be high owing to the dynamic channel states in practical conditions. To solve this problem, in this paper, we propose an improved channel equalization framework based on the deep neural network (DNN). Based on the analyzed relationship between the input and output of the DNN, the data can be recovered without the channel state information. Furthermore, aiming at reducing the convergence time and enhancing the learning ability of the DNN, a classification weighted algorithm is proposed to optimize the cost function of the DNN, which is named as classification weighted deep neural network (CW-DNN). Simulation results demonstrate that compared to conventional counterparts, the proposed CW-DNN based equalizer can achieve a better normalized mean square error (NMSE). Upon approximating the optimal neural network parameters with the significantly improved convergence speed and reduced training time of the network, under the condition of the fixed learning rate.

Abstract: Ionization cooling is the preferred method for producing bright muon beams. This cooling technique requires the operation of normal conducting, radio-frequency (rf) accelerating cavities within the multi-tesla fields of dc solenoid magnets. Under these conditions, cavities exhibit increased susceptibility to rf breakdown, which can damage cooling channel components and imposes limits on channel length and transmission efficiency. We report, for the first time, stable high-vacuum, normal-conducting cavity operation at gradients of 50 MV/m in an external magnetic field of three tesla, through the use of beryllium cavity elements. This eliminates a significant technical risk that has previously been inherent in ionization cooling channel designs.

Abstract: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome(HFRS) is a worldwide fulminant infectious disease. Since the first HFRS cases in Hubei Province were reported in 1957, the disease has spread across the province and Hubei has become one of seriously affected areas in China. However, the epidemic characteristics of HFRS are still not entirely clear. Therefore, a systematic investigation of spatial and temporal distribution pattern of HFRS system is needed. In order to facilitate better prevention and control of HFRS in Hubei Province, in this paper, a GIS spatiotemporal analysis and modeling tool was developed to analyze the spatiotemporal dynamics of the HFRS epidemic, as well as providinga comprehensive examination the dynamic pattern of HFRS in Hubei over the past 30 years (1980-2009), to determine spatiotemporal change trends and the causes of HFRS. Abstract: Dissipation is a ubiquitous phenomenon in dynamical systems encountered in nature because no finite system is fully isolated from its environment. In optical systems, a key challenge facing any technological application has traditionally been the mitigation of optical losses. Recent work has shown that a new class of optical materials that consist of a precisely balanced distribution of loss and gain can be exploited to engineer novel functionalities for propagating and filtering electromagnetic radiation. Here we show a generic property of optical systems that feature an unbalanced distribution of loss and gain, described by non-normal operators, namely, that an overall lossy optical system can transiently amplify certain input signals by several orders of magnitude. We present a mathematical framework to analyze the dynamics of wave propagation in media with an arbitrary distribution of loss and gain, and we construct the initial conditions to engineer such non-normal power amplifiers. Our results point to a new design space for engineered optical systems employed in photonics and quantum optics.

Abstract: Background: Current studies have reported that it is rare for the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) to be combined with two fungal infections and that COVID-19 can be combined with multiple cardiovascular complications, both of which can complicate the condition and increase the risk of death. Methods: We report a case of COVID-19 in which Aspergillus fumigatus and Cryptococcus neoformans were detected by sputum targeted next-generation sequencing (tNGS) and cardiac monitoring during treatment revealed cardiovascular complications. Results: We consider that this patient's fungal infection was associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and the application of corticosteroids. In addition, cardiovascular complications were associated with an inflammatory response and increased sympathetic stimulation due to SARS-CoV-2 infection. Conclusions: The presence of COVID-19-associated fungal infections cannot be excluded when multiple risk factors for fungal infections are present in patients with COVID-19 and the condition is rapidly deteriorating. Abstract: Abstract Background Acute deteriorations of health status are common in hospitalized patients and are often preceded by changes in their vital signs. Events such as heart attacks, death or admission to the intensive care unit can be averted by early detection, therefore so-called Early Warning Scores (EWS) such as the National Early Warning Score 2 (NEWS2), including basic vital parameters such as heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature and level of consciousness, have been developed for a systematic approach. Although studies have shown that EWS have a positive impact on patient outcomes, they are often limited by issues such as calculation errors, time constraints, and a shortage of human resources. Therefore, development of tools for automatic calculation of EWS could help improve quality of EWS calculation and may improve patient outcomes. The aim of this study is to analyze the feasibility of wearable devices for the automatic calculation of NEWS2 compared to conventional calculation using vital signs measured by health care professionals. Methods We conducted a prospective trial at a large tertiary hospital in Switzerland. Patients were given a wristband with a photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor that continuously recorded their heart rate and respiratory rate for 3 consecutive days. Combined with data from the electronic health record (EHR), NEWS2-score was calculated and compared to NEWS2 score calculated from vital parameters in the EHR measured by medical staff. The main objective of our study was to assess the agreement between NEWS2 scores calculated using both methods. This analysis was conducted using Cohen's Kappa and Bland–Altman analysis. Secondary endpoints were compliance concerning the medical device, patient acceptance, data quality analysis and data availability and signal quality for all time stamps needed for accurate calculation. Results Of 210 patients enrolled in our study, NEWS2 was calculated in 904 cases, with 191 cases being directly compared to conventional measurements. 24. A model framework for atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange and the associated isotope effects at Dome Argus, Antarctica – Part 1: The diurnal changes

Abstract: Ice-core water isotopes contain valuable information on past climate changes. However, such information can be altered by post-depositional processing after snow deposition. Atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange is one such process, but its influence remains poorly constrained. Here we constructed a box model to quantify the atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange fluxes and the associated isotope effects at sites with low snow accumulation rates, where the effects of atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange are suspected to be large. The model reproduced the observed diurnal variations in δ18O, δD, and deuterium excess (d-excess) in water vapor at Dome C, East Antarctica. According to the same model framework, we found that under average summer clear-sky conditions, atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange at Dome A can cause diurnal variations in atmospheric water vapor δ18O and δD of 4.8 ‰ ± 2.6 ‰ and 29 ‰ ± 19 ‰, with corresponding diurnal variations in surface snow δ18O and δD of 0.80 ‰ ± 0.35 ‰ and 1.6 ‰ ± 2.7 ‰. The modeled results under summer cloudy conditions display similar patterns to those under clear-sky conditions but with much smaller magnitudes of diurnal variations. However, under winter conditions at Dome A, the model predicts few to no diurnal changes in snow isotopes, consistent with the stable boundary condition in winter that inhibits effective vapor exchange between the atmosphere and snow. In addition, after 24 h and continuous simulations of 11 d, the model predicts significant enrichments in snow isotopes under summer conditions, while in winter, the depletions also accumulate after each 24 h simulation but with a much smaller magnitude of change compared to the results from summer simulations. If the modeled snow isotope enrichments in summer conditions and the depletions in winter conditions represent the general situation at Dome A, this likely suggests that atmosphere–snow water vapor exchange tends to increase snow isotope seasonality, and the annual net effect would be overall enrichments in snow isotopes since the effects in summer appear to be greater than those in winter. This trend will need to be further explored in the future with more comprehensive model studies and/or field observations and experiments.

Their treatment is classically based on surgery with adjuvant external radiotherapy for localized tumors or on immunotherapy or chemotherapy, sometimes associated with radiotherapy, for metastatic stages. Those tumors are highly radiosensitive due to their neuroendocrine and undifferentiated nature, but they usually fail to rapidly respond to treatment. Case presentation We report the case of a 65-year-old retired female patient of Caucasian (German) origin with locally advanced Merkel cell carcinoma of the buttock, with pancreatic metastases synchronous at diagnosis, treated with local radiotherapy of the right buttock without regional lymph node irradiation followed by a sequential chemotherapy; 1 year later, the patient developed an isolated pancreatic recurrence treated with exclusive radiotherapy. The patient was still alive at 13 years with complete remission. Conclusion External radiotherapy can be an effective alternative to surgery for locally advanced or even oligometastatic Merkel cell carcinomas.

Abstract: The aim of this systematic review and network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized controlled trials was to evaluate the effectiveness of treatments for pain relief of burning mouth syndrome (BMS). Five databases and gray literature were searched. Independent reviewers selected studies, extracted data, and assessed the risk of bias. The primary outcome was pain relief or burning sensation, and the secondary outcomes were side effects, quality of life, salivary flow, and TNF-α and interleukin 6 levels. Four comparable interventions were grouped into different network geometries to ensure the transitivity assumption for pain: photobiomodulation therapy, alpha-lipoic acid, phytotherapics, and anxiolytics/antidepressants. Mean difference (MD) and 95% CI were calculated for continuous outcomes. The minimal important difference to consider a therapy beneficial against placebo was an MD of at least −1 for relief of pain. To interpret the results, the GRADE approach for NMA was used with a minimally contextualized framework and the magnitude of the effect. Forty-four trials were included (24 in the NMA). The anxiolytic (clonazepam) probably reduces the pain of BMS when compared with placebo (MD, −1.88; 95% CI, −2.61 to −1.16; moderate certainty). Photobiomodulation therapy (MD, −1.90; 95% CI, −3.58 to −0.21) and pregabalin (MD, −2.40; 95% CI, −3.49 to −1.32) achieved the minimal important difference of a beneficial effect with low or very low certainty. Among all tested treatments, only clonazepam is likely to reduce the pain of BMS when compared with placebo. The majority of the other treatments had low and very low certainty, mainly due to imprecision, indirectness, and intransitivity. More randomized controlled trials comparing treatments against placebo are encouraged to confirm the evidence and test possible alternative treatments (PROSPERO CRD42021255039).

Abstract: Study question Do severe acephalic spermatozoa syndrome (ASS) patients with different genes variants obtain good fertilization rate after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)? Summary answer Despite highly abnormal sperm morphology, severe ASS patients with SUN5, TSGA10 and PMFBP1 different variations have a favorable pregnancy outcome following ICSI. What is known already ASS is a rare cause of infertility characterized by the production of two main subtypes: one type has small “pin-head” ends devoid of any nuclear material, and the other comprises spermatozoa with misaligned head-midpiece junctions. Many researchers have suggested that variants in TSGA10 without a proximal centriole might influence early embryonic development. Some case reports studies with very few cases showed that ICSI could help patients with ASS father children. Study design, size, duration This retrospective cohort study included 14 infertile men with severe ASS and 100 fertile men in Reproductive and Genetic Hospital of CITIC-Xiangya in China, from January 2020 to December 2021. Participants/materials, setting, methods Patients and fertile men were recruited respectively from Outpatient Department and Sperm bank of our hospital in China. 14 severe ASS were analyzed by whole exome sequencing. Mutational analysis in the 14 severe ASS and 100 fertile men were performed. Identified SUN5, TSGA10 and PMFBP1 variations were further investigated using bioinformatics, RT-PCR, Western Blot, indirect immunofluorescence assay, papanicolaou staining, CASA, transmission electron microscopy and ICSI treatments. Clinical data were collected from the fertility center. Main results and the role of chance In 14 patients with severe acephalic spermatozoa,16 homozygous or heterozygous variants were identified from SUN5,TSGA10 and PMFBP1. We performed deep phenotyping in acephalic spermatozoa with different variants, and found that, other than the two major subtypes, multiple variations in different genes that affect sperm heads in humans produce diverse phenotypes with subtle differences. Our findings were supported by Papanicolaou staining, SEM and TEM analyses. The rates of fertilization, good-quality embryos and pregnancy for 13 patients following ICSI were 85.71% (174/203), 55.17% (96 /174) and 69.23% (9/13), respectively. There were no differences in ICSI results between ASS patients with different genes mutations. The defects of acephalic spermatozoa caused by different genetic variations may only affect the morphology of sperm. ICSI can be used in the treatment of acephalic spermatozoa and obtain favorable fertilization rate without affecting the quality of early embryos and clinical pregnancy outcome. For individuals with ASS, ICSI using intact spermatozoa (or separated heads and tails) is suggested. If no sperm heads in their ejaculate, the spermatozoa can be collected from the testes. Very few intact spermatozoa or loose sperm heads will be available, even if normal morphology of spermatozoa is 0% and 100% spermatozoa are acephalic. Limitations, reasons for caution Only a small number ASS patients was available because of its rare incidence. Patients with ASS can be effectively treated with ICSI. However, the results in this study should be treated with caution, which involves the TSGA10, SUN5 and PMFBP1 genes and cannot be extrapolated to other genes. Wider implications of the findings The identification of novel variants in SUN5, TSGA10 and PMFBP1 broadens the spectrum of ASS genetic causes. Our study is the first to thoroughly evaluate the phenotypes and pathogenic genotypes of patients with severe ASS in China. SUN5, TSGA10 and PMFBP1 mutation-associated male infertility can be overcome by ICSI. Trial registration number kq2014032

Abstract: The efficiency of high-order harmonic generation from a relativistic laser interacting with solid targets depends greatly on surface plasma distribution. The usual method of enhancing efficiency involves tuning the plasma scale length carefully by improving the laser contrast. Here, we experimentally demonstrate that efficient harmonics can be achieved directly by compressing large-scale surface plasma via the radiation pressure of a circularly polarized normally incident prepulse. The harmonic generation efficiency obtained by this method is comparable to that obtained with optimized plasma scale length by high-contrast lasers. Our scheme does not rely on high-contrast lasers and is robust and easy to implement. Thus, it may pave a way for the development of intense extreme ultraviolet sources and future applications with high repetition rates.

Abstract: The commercial production of coalbed methane (CBM) in China has made significant achievements. To further improve the production of CBM and realize its development, it is necessary to establish a unique, high-efficiency CBM production method that considers the characteristics of coal reservoirs in China. This paper presents the current status of China’s CBM exploitation over the past 15 years from three aspects: reservoir characteristics, production mode, and exploitation technology. The achievements, in terms of exploration and development of CBM resources in China, were summarized. The CBM reservoirs in China are characterized by high coal rank, low permeability, high gas content, and low reservoir pressure gradient. Strategic measures for coal and CBM co-mining were proposed creatively as “Huainan”, “Jincheng”, and “Songzao” modes. CBM production enhancement measures have achieved significant innovations and breakthroughs in drilling and completion technologies and reservoir reconstruction, effectively reducing development costs and increasing single well production. Finally, based on existing basic research, this study proposes efficient CBM exploitation technologies suitable for the characteristics of CBM reservoirs in China. In particular, the uniform permeability enhancement measures of hydraulic grid slotting and fracturing have the advantages of safety, high efficiency, economy, feasibility, and broad application prospects under complex mining conditions. It is of great strategic significance to improve the CBM recovery rate and optimize China’s energy structure.

Abstract: This article is devoted to the presentation of the MAP-IO observation program. This program, launched in early 2021, has enabled the observation of nearly 700 d of measurements over the Indian and Southern Ocean with the equipment of 17 meteorological and oceanographic scientific instruments on board the ship Marion Dufresne. Several observational techniques have been developed to respond to the difficulties of observations on board the ship, in particular for passive remote sensing data, as well as for quasi-autonomous data acquisition and transfer. The first measurements made it possible to draw up unprecedented climatological data of the Southern Ocean regarding the size distribution and optical thickness of aerosols, the concentration of trace gases and greenhouse gases, UV, and integrated water vapor. High-resolution observations of phytoplankton in surface waters have also shown a great variability in latitude in terms of abundance and community structure (diversity). The operational success of this program and these unique scientific results together establish a proof of concept and underline the need to transform this program into a permanent observatory. The multi-year rotations over the Indian Ocean will enable us to assess the trends and seasonal variability of phytoplankton, greenhouse gases, ozone, and marine aerosols in a sensitive and poorly documented climatic region. Without being exhaustive, MAP-IO should make it possible to better understand and assess the biological carbon pump, to study the variability of gases and aerosols in a region that is remote in relation to the main anthropogenic sources, and to monitor the transport of stratospheric ozone by the Brewer–Dobson circulation. 41. Shaped and filled by the Rhine Glacier: the overdeepened Tannwald Basin in southwestern Germany

Abstract: The Alpine region was shaped by repeated glaciations during the Quaternary, which led to the formation of overdeepened valleys and basins. These features today, hidden below the present-day land surface, host multiple stacked and nested glacial sequences and offer valuable insight into the environmental history and geomorphological evolution of the region. The project Drilling Overdeepened Alpine Valleys (DOVE) of the International Continental Scientific Drilling Program (ICDP) is dedicated to investigating such overdeepened structures around the Alps. Within DOVE, we here focus on the Tannwald Basin in southern Germany. Situated distally within the area formerly occupied by the Rhine Glacier piedmont lobe; it was shaped by multiple glaciations, yet it is located outside the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) ice extent. Previous seismic imaging and the presence of interglacial pollen sequences indicate a multi-phase infill history. The complex sedimentary architecture observed in a newly drilled core allows for comparison with seismic data and lithological evidence from other sites. On the basis of a lithofacies model that introduces 17 lithotypes, we propose that the basin fill is composed of three lithostratigraphic units that reflect the glacial history of the basin. After the erosion of the Tannwald Basin, a cold-climate, stacked basin-infill sequence recorded sedimentation of two glacial advances, before it was covered by LGM outwash. The sedimentary record includes an extensive basal glacial shear zone with deformed bedrock and several overlying diamict horizons. Further upcore, deformation structures underscore the role of gravitational processes as well as profound glaciotectonics, deforming the sediment deep within the subsurface. While the sedimentary record indicates a rather rapid infill of the depression, further age constraints and detailed investigations of ice-contact sediments will clarify open questions regarding the temporal classification of the deposits.

42. Analysis of Aircraft Parking Stability Based on Atmosphere Boundary Theory

Abstract: Based on numerical simulation technology, the aerodynamic load research of civil aircraft parked on the ground is conducted. The CRM model parked on the ground is established by CFD software. Based on the atmospheric boundary layer theory, the seven incoming flow conditions for numerical calculation are designed. And the aerodynamic loads’ change of the aircraft model is calculated when the -90° sideslip angle. The result shows that the mooring load on the nose landing gear mainly comes from the longitudinal load caused by the upwards pitching moment on the flat tail and the lateral load caused by the yaw moment; since the rolling moment coefficient is less than the pitching moment coefficient by two orders of magnitude, which hardly affects the mooring load. The study provides a reference for reducing the mooring load of civil aircraft under heavy wind conditions.

Abstract: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) presents severe morbidity and high mortality owing to local recurrence or remote metastasis. Molecular markers, including chemokines, might provide more efficient prognostic information or even therapeutic targets for the treatment of OSCC. Using quantitative RT-qPCR, we found that CCL18 was dramatically overexpressed in 30 OSCC tissues at the mRNA level in comparison with their adjacent non-cancerous oral mucosa tissues and 15 oral mucosa tissues from non-malignant patients. We then analyzed the relationship between CCL18 overexpression and patient clinical characters and outcomes using immunohistochemistry staining (IHC) in 102 paired OSCC cancerous and adjacent non-cancerous tissues; the increase in CCL18 expression was significantly higher in male patients (p=0.047), tumors of the palate and floor of the mouth (p=0.014), patients with positive lymph node metastasis (p=0.007), and patients with poor tumor differentiation (p=0.029). The median overall survival time and time-to-recurrence were 80.6 and 61.4 months in patients with high CCL18 expression, respectively, as against 93.4 and 81.6 months in patients with comparatively lower CCL18 expression, respectively (p=0.033 and 0.012, respectively; log-rank test). Multivariate analyses indicated age, poor differentiation, and CCL18 levels to be independent prognostic factors for predicting both overall and disease-free survival time. Our study suggests that CCL18 is a novel candidate marker for the OSCC malignancy and prognosis, including lymph node metastasis, time-to-recurrence, and disease-free survival time.

Abstract: In this work, we have developed a near-infrared emissive polyethyleneimine capped Ag2(PEI-Ag2S QD) quantum dots based chemosensor for sensing trace-level Hg2+ in water by taking advantage of the metal-induced aggregation strategy. The fluorescence determination of Hg2+ by PEI-Ag2S QD at different pH (pH 4, 7, and 10) were performed, respectively. Under the optimum conditions, the selectivity of this system for Hg2+ over other metal ions in aqueous solutions was remarkably high, and its detection limits was 0.5 nM at pH 4. In addition, the present approach provides the advantages of rapidity, simplicity, low background and low cost. The assay also offers great potential for specific detection of Hg2+ in real water samples. This developed PEI-Ag2S QD-based method presages more opportunities for application in environmental systems.

Abstract: The effect of the surface protection with insulating materials of the two types on the bending and compressive strengths, internal temperature, mass loss, and relative dynamic elastic modulus of hydraulic concrete was studied. In comparison with unprotected concretes, the surface protection can delay the temperature drop of the concrete bulk and increase its final temperature. Polyurethane and polystyrene were compared as to their efficiency in the surface protection of hydraulic concrete during the freeze-thaw cycle test. Those materials can increase a maximum number of freeze-thaw cycles. As compared to unprotected concrete, the number of cycles increased by 100 and 75%, respectively. After 100 freeze-thaw cycles, the relative compressive and bending strengths of polyurethane-protected concrete are 75 and 64%, while these characteristics for unprotected concretes make up 61 and 57%. Such an approach effectively withstand the deterioration of mechanical properties of concrete during freeze-thaw cycles.

Enrolled patients with AECOPD underwent blood gas analysis as well as biomarker testing for serum inflammatory markers, including white blood cell count (WBC), neutrophils, D-dimer, procalcitonin (PCT), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR). General characteristics such as age and gender were also recorded. The main observation was admission to the ICU. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were used to explore independent risk factors for admission to the ICU in patients with AECOPD, which could be used as components of a new predictive model. Subject receiver operating characteristic curves (ROC) were used to assess the sensitivity and specificity of the new model, which consisted of all independent risk factors predicting the primary outcome.Initially, 369 patients with AECOPD were admitted to the general ward, of which 119 were subsequently transferred to the ICU (119/369). PaCO2, WBC, D-dimer, PCT, and hs-CRP were independent risk factors for admission to the ICU in patients with AECOPD. The AUC of the new prediction model (combined model consisting of PaCO2, WBC, D-dimer, PCT, and hs-CRP) was 0.94 (95% CI 0.92 - 0.97). The sensitivity was 80.7% and the specificity was 94.8%.The model for predicting the admission of AECOPD patients to the ICU based on blood indicators has a high specificity and sensitivity.

47. A New Prediction Model for Prolonged Hospitalization in Adult Community-Acquired Pneumonia (CAP) Patients

Abstract: As a serious and common out-of-hospital infectious disease, community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) ranks among the leading causes of death in both developing and developed countries. In recent years, the increasing incidence of CAP has led to an increase in the number of hospitalizations. Although CURB-65 (or CRB-65) and pneumonia severity Index (PSI) scoring systems are widely used in CAP prognostic scoring systems, each score had some limitations in predicting whether patients with CAP would require prolonged hospitalization. The aim of this study was to analyze serum inflammatory biomarkers combined with age to establish a novel predictive model for predicting prolonged hospitalization in patients with CAP.In a retrospective study, serum inflammatory biomarkers were collected from all enrolled CAP patients, including white blood cell count (WBC), high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), D-dimer, procalcitonin (PCT), fibrinogen (FIB), and ICU treatment. Length of hospital stay and age were also recorded. The 75th percentile of length of stay in the enrolled population was defined as long hospitalization over time, and the primary predictor of outcome was prolonged hospitalization. Univariate analysis and binary logistic regression analysis were used to explore the independent risk factors which could be components of a new predicting model for prolonged hospitalization in CAP patients. ROC curves were used to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of the new model, which consisted of the combination of all independent risk factors in predicting the main outcomes.The results showed that among 364 patients with CAP, 85 had extended hospitalization (85/364). Further analysis showed that age, white blood cell, fibrinogen, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein were independent risk factors for extended hospitalization in patients with CAP. Finally, the AUC of the ROC curve of the new prediction model (the joint model consists of age, WBC, FIB, and hs-CRP) was 0.93 (95% CI 0.90 - 0.96), and the sensitivity and specificity were 87.1% and 87.8%, respectively.Serum inflammatory biomarkers combined age have high specificity and sensitivity in predicting prolonged hospitalization in adult CAP patients.

Abstract: Global staffing is a crucial factor for the success of the overseas operations of multinational corporations (MNCs). This study examines the contextual and organisational factors that affect the localisation of subsidiary staffing in the overseas operations of Japanese multinational companies. Using panel data containing more than 15 000 observations of Japanese overseas subsidiaries and a random-effects logit model, we found that the cultural distance between the home country and the host country has a significant impact on the localisation of subsidiary staffing. In addition, the strategic importance of subsidiaries, as well as the local market orientation and business experiences in the host country, but not research and development (R&D) intensity of Japanese parent firms, have a significant impact on the localisation of foreign subsidiary staffing.
