Background and Objective: Germany is only moderately breastfeeding-friendly, according to a systematic inventory from 2019. Based on a reference study, a survey on the acceptance of breastfeeding in public was conducted. The aim of the work is to capture perceptions and attitudes towards public breastfeeding in a periodic comparison. In addition, differences between the general population and mothers of young children as well as between mothers with different levels of education are considered., Materials and Methods: In 2020, 1007 people aged 16 and older and 307 mothers with children up to 24 months were surveyed online about public breastfeeding. The results were compared with a previous survey from 2016., Results: In 2020, a larger percentage of mothers breastfeed in public than in 2016; it is avoided less often. Mothers with lower levels of education are less likely to breastfeed, also in public, and more likely to report mixed reactions. Among the general population, acceptance of public breastfeeding has declined, for example, in gastronomy. About one in six (17%) explicitly rejects breastfeeding in public. Knowledge about the health effects of breastfeeding is lower among the general public than among mothers. As in 2016, knowledge about the positive effects of breastfeeding is associated with greater acceptance of public breastfeeding., Conclusions: The results underline the importance of measures, for example, to communicate knowledge to the population, show breastfeeding more frequently in mass media and through positive role models, and make the settings in which families live more breastfeeding-friendly. Key Message: Complementing or replacing genetic markers with transcriptomic data and use of reproducing kernel Hilbert space regression based on Gaussian kernels increases hybrid prediction accuracies for complex agronomic traits in canola. In plant breeding, hybrids gained particular importance due to heterosis, the superior performance of offspring compared to their inbred parents. Since the development of new top performing hybrids requires labour-intensive and costly breeding programmes, including testing of large numbers of experimental hybrids, the prediction of hybrid performance is of utmost interest to plant breeders. In this study, we tested the effectiveness of hybrid prediction models in spring-type oilseed rape (Brassica napus L./canola) employing different omics profiles, individually and in combination. To this end, a population of 950 F 1 hybrids was evaluated for seed yield and six other agronomically relevant traits in commercial field trials at several locations throughout Europe. A subset of these hybrids was also evaluated in a climatized glasshouse regarding early biomass production. For each of the 477 parental rapeseed lines, 13,201 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), 154 primary metabolites, and 19,479 transcripts were determined and used as predictive variables. Both, SNP markers and transcripts, effectively predict hybrid performance using (genomic) best linear unbiased prediction models (gBLUP). Compared to models using pure genetic markers, models incorporating transcriptome data resulted in significantly higher prediction accuracies for five out of seven agronomic traits, indicating that transcripts carry important information beyond genomic data. Notably, reproducing kernel Hilbert space regression based on Gaussian kernels significantly exceeded the predictive abilities of gBLUP models for six of the seven agronomic traits, demonstrating its potential for implementation in future canola breeding programmes.

Despite known positive effects for breastfed children and their mothers, only one third of children under four months of age are breastfed exclusively. In addition, an overview of structures, actors, and measures to promote breastfeeding in Germany is missing. In a two-year international research project entitled Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly (BBF), the current status of German breastfeeding support is systematically evaluated on the basis of the Breastfeeding Gear Model (BFGM) which was developed by the Yale School of Public Health. Therefore, committee members with expertise in the healthcare sector, science, policy, and communication evaluate 54 benchmarks of the eight relevant gears: advocacy, political will, legislation & policies, funding & resources, training & program delivery, promotion, research & evaluation, coordination, and goals & monitoring. Based on the identified strengths and needs, concrete calls to action for scaling up breastfeeding promotion are derived and prioritized. BBF started in September 2017 and is conducted in cooperation with the Yale School of Public Health by the Healthy Start - Young Family Network as well as the National Breastfeeding Committee as an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Nutrition and Agriculture. The project assesses the framework conditions for breastfeeding and thus makes a valuable contribution to the health promotion of mother and child and to breastfeeding protection in Germany.

Background: To assess the predictive value of early metabolic response (ΔSUV) after short-term treatment with first-line cetuximab in patients (pts) with RAS-wt metastatic colorectal cancer (mCRC)., Methods: In this prospective phase II study, RAS-wt mCRC pts received a single-agent cetuximab run-in therapy of 2 weeks. ΔSUV was assessed with FDG-PET/CT on days 0 and 14. Early clinical response (ECR) was evaluated with CT on day 56 after treatment with FOLFIRI-cetuximab. Primary endpoint was the predictive significance of ΔSUV for ECR. Secondary endpoints were PFS (progression free survival), OS and the influence of ΔSUV on survival., Results: Forty pts were enroled and 33 pts were evaluable for the primary endpoint. The CT response rate was 57.6%. For responders, ΔSUV was significantly higher (p = 0.0092). A significant association of ΔSUV with ECR was found (p = 0.02). Median PFS was 11.7 months and median OS was 33.5 months with a 1-year survival rate of 87.9%. ΔSUV was found to significantly impact the hazard for OS (p = 0.045)., Conclusions: We demonstrate that cetuximab induces metabolic responses in mCRC pts. The study endpoint was met with the ΔSUV discriminating between responders and non-responders. However, these data should be validated in larger patient cohorts.

Genomic selection (GS) is a modern breeding approach where genome-wide single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) marker profiles are simultaneously used to estimate performance of untested genotypes. In this study, the potential of genomic selection methods to predict testcross performance for hybrid canola breeding was applied for various agronomic traits based on genome-wide marker profiles. A total of 475 genetically diverse spring-type canola pollinator lines were genotyped at 24,403 single-copy, genome-wide SNP loci. In parallel, the 950 F1 testcross combinations between the pollinators and two representative testers were evaluated for a number of important agronomic traits including seedling emergence, days to flowering, lodging, oil yield and seed yield along with essential seed quality characters including seed oil content and seed glucosinolate content. A ridge-regression best linear unbiased prediction (RR-BLUP) model was applied in combination with 500 cross-validations for each trait to predict testcross performance, both across the whole population as well as within individual subpopulations or clusters, based solely on SNP profiles. Subpopulations were determined using multidimensional scaling and K-means clustering. Genomic prediction accuracy across the whole population was highest for seed oil content (0.81) followed by oil yield (0.75) and lowest for seedling emergence (0.29). For seed yieId, seed glucosinolate, lodging resistance and days to onset of flowering (DTF), prediction accuracies were 0.45, 0.61, 0.39 and 0.56, respectively. Prediction accuracies could be increased for some traits by treating subpopulations separately; a strategy which only led to moderate improvements for some traits with low heritability, like seedling emergence. No useful or consistent increase in accuracy was obtained by inclusion of a population substructure covariate in the model. Testcross performance prediction using genome-wide SNP markers shows considerable potential for pre-selection of promising hybrid combinations prior to resource-intensive field testing over multiple locations and years.

Objectives: The anatomy of the cavernous sinus is described controversially in a number of publications. In the present cadaveric study, the architecture of the dorsolateral wall of the cavernous sinus is studied microsurgically and histologically., Materials and Methods: Twenty cadaveric skulls have been dissected through a classical surgical frontotemporal approach. The temporal skull base was flattened and anatomical landmarks like the meningo-orbital band, superior orbital fissure, foramina rotundum, ovale, and spinosum were identified. Lateral of the trigeminal foramina, the dura was cut and the periosteal dural layer was separated from the meningeal layer, identifying an interdural zone. The length and the extent of this zone were evaluated. The dural architecture of the interdural incision zone was examined histologically., Results: In all specimens, two dural layers lateral of the trigeminal foramina could be separated. The identified interdural incision zone extended in a length of 3.8-6.4 cm in the antero-posterior direction. The zone could be followed medially to the superior orbital fissure for 5.3 mm and lateral of the foramen spinosum for 6.4 mm. The separation of the dural layers allowed the approach to the superior border of the cavernous sinus through this interdural incision zone. The histological analysis of the interdural incision zone showed clearly the existence of two dural layers., Conclusions: The architecture of the temporal-fossa-dura allows the microsurgical separation of two meningeal dural layers through a length of 5-6 cm next to the trigeminal foramina. Opening this interdural incision zone allowed exploring the superior border of the cavernous sinus.
